Presidential Foreword Dear friends, 2013 has been a truly productive and successful year for EYP Ukraine. One of the main achievements worth mentioning is continuation of long-term partnerships with charity foundations Open Hearts of Ukraine and Food Bank as well as attracting one more strategic partner - Jansen Capital Management. Thanks to those institutions and many others, EYP Ukraine succeeded to organise a number of events to start regional extension and to initiate own projects. More than 1400 people took part in our events in 2013. Representatives of our organisation took part in a number of events significant for the Ukrainian society, e.g. launch of the “Stronger Together“ campaign, meeting with the US Senators. Furthermore, EYP Ukraine successfully promoted volunteering culture among its members within the events initiated by International Organisation for Migration, EU Delegation to Ukraine, eco-project “Let’s do it Ukraine”, Food Bank and Open Hearts of Ukraine foundations.

With a number of ambitious and inspiring projects and events ahead, 2014 looks like a truly intense year for the National Committee. The organisation continues to build its inner capacity, ensuring high working standards and providing quality day-to-day support to its volunteers. The institutionalised vision for the future of EYP Ukraine has been compiled into a strategy note, the first attempt to develop a long-term vision for the organisation and its role in the Ukrainian society. After 4 successful InterRail tours, EYP Ukraine will strive to sustain its presence in regions, with 8 mini-session and 10 EYP presentations already planned in different regions of Ukraine and regional committees to be formed. It is also envisioned to make EYP Ukraine a training-based organisation through a smooth transition of knowledge and working tools between generations of EYP-ers and organising special events that bring together beginners and experienced EYP alumni and trainers. Externally, EYP Ukraine will strengthen its role as a socially responsible stakeholder, participating in a number of social initiatives, charitable actions initiated by our partners – Open Hearts of Ukraine Foundation, FoodBank Foundation and others. The event plan for 2014 is also ready to accommodate at least 2 projects of international importance – 8th National Selection Conference in Cherkassy and 77th International Session in Kyiv. International Session will become the best recognition of the spectacular work of Ukrainian National Committee during past several years.

History International youth NGO European Youth Parliament – Ukraine (EYP Ukraine) represents one of 39 National Committees of the European Youth Parliament. Established in 2000, it’s a full-fledged participant of civil society development process in Ukraine, involving young Ukrainians in activities of one of the largest European platforms for debate, intercultural encounters, educational work and exchange of ideas among young Europeans. Each year, EYP Ukraine conducts a National Session selecting delegations to represent Ukraine at EYP International and regional sessions in Europe, as well as regional sessions in Ukrainian cities and other youth projects. Throughout its lifetime, EYP Ukraine has acquired professional expertise and valuable experience in organising different kinds of youth events: international and regional sessions, national conferences, trainings and workshops etc. EYP Ukraine is a strategic youth partner to the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine as it supports the organisation of Days of Europe in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine. Experienced and talented young people ready to volunteer their time and efforts to implement interesting projects is the most valuable asset we possess.
13th Anniversary of EYP Ukraine The celebration was hosted by the “Ukraina” University on June 14, 2013. Together with the Board of NGO, honourable guests and partners assessed the achievements of EYP Ukraine in their speeches. Board members have thoroughly presented the inner side of organisation’s functioning and shared their plans on future work of departments with the attendees. The celebration was brightened up by the speeches, delivered personally by distinguished guests, namely, head of the Open Hearts Foundation Mr. Yevgen Poltenko and representative from Jansen Capital Management Zhanna Kryuchkova.

7th National Selection Conference The first and one of the most important projects for our National Committee in 2013 was held in February in Ivano-Frankivsk. 98 delegates from 18 regions of Ukraine and 10 countries all over the Europe have gathered to discuss issues, united under the umbrella topic „Value Europe“. 27 delegates were selected to represent Ukraine at international conferences in France, Georgia and Germany. During 5 days, the participants were identifying problems and debating solutions in a wide range of topics connected with a certain European value. The topics ranged from political repressions in the neighbouring countries, human trafficking, youth unemployment and EU-China trade to urban green space, minority languages, energy efficiency and higher education in Europe. The organising team was lead by Mr Yegor Vlasenko (UA) and Ms Natalia Kalyn (UA). Session President, Ms Anastasia Ianovystka (UA) has managed the team of 16 committee moderators. Ms Karin-Liis Lahtmae (EE), Editor, has created the event’s media coverage together with her team of journalists.

7th National Selection Conference was supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Bohdan Havrylyshyn Foundation, Open Hearts Foundation, System Capital Management, Jansen Capital Management, FoodBank Foundation as well as by local businesses and media, Ivano-Frankivsk City Council and Ivano-Frankivsk District Administration. Head of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council has greeted the participants with a speech at the Opening Ceremony.

6th Kyiv Regional Session 6th Kyiv Regional Session became a key spring event for our National Committee. 68 delegates from various regions of Ukraine as well as several guest delegates from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Serbia have tried to find solutions for situations around key human rights in Europe and, especially, in Ukraine and Belarus.

6 committees of young and active delegates were dealing with complex issues, comprising together the session’s topic “Europe Fights for Human Rights“, which included environmental safety and energy accessibility, discrimination and HIV, human rights and democracy in Ukraine, water accessibility, feminism and domestic violence in Eastern Europe, human trafficking. The organising team was lead by Mr Michael Rozhkov (UA) and Ms Olena Yermakova (UA). Session President, Ms Mila Pestun (BY) has managed the team of 8 committee moderators. Mr Alex Guzenko (UA), Editor, has created the event’s media coverage together with his team of 7 journalists. In the strive to organise this event the EYP Ukraine was supported by the Open Hearts Foundation, System Capital Management, FoodBank Foundation, Jansen Capital Management, Obolon, CFC Consulting, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, EU delegation to Ukraine, Department of Education of Pechersk City Administration, International Relations Lyceum 51 and private companies Termpaks, Vacumus and VLISA.

Leopolis Economic Forum After a 3-month summer break, EYP Ukraine has welcomed young economists as participants of the Leopolis International Economic Forum. 92 participants have gathered to discuss various aspects of the EU economic development under the session topic “Rethinking European Economy�. Topic range included: Common Agricultural Policy, white-collar crimes, European economic and monetary Union, economic regulations, education-job market transition, sustainable energy, Common European Market and transportation infrastructure. The organising team was led by Mr Nazar Zhovtovskyy (UA) and Ms Marichka Ihnatova (UA). Session President, Ms Kerstin Eckart (DE) has managed the team of 11 international committee moderators. Ms Evhenia Melekhovest (UA) and Mr Yegor Vlasenko (UA), Editors, have introduced a new paper-free media team concept, delivering content to the participants exclusively via innovative online tools.

4th InterRail Tour InterRail Tour is the largest project of the European Youth Parliament on the international level, involving more than 600 participants from 15 cities in 6 days. 5 teams of officials (committee moderators, journalists, travel organisers) led by 5 experienced international presidents have each conducted 3 Mini-Sessions in the following cities: Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Odesa, Kherson, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Dniprodzerdzhynsk, Kryvyi Rih, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Yalta, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lutsk. Dates: 16-22 September 15 cities Participants: 602 Budget: UAH 38 511 Session topic: Ukraine and the EU
All the Mini-Sessions have followed a standard pattern: EYP presentation, teambuilding, committee work and General Assembly. Our project was aimed at spreading awareness and launching discussions about EU-Ukraine relations in light of the upcoming Eastern Partnership Sumit. Topics included environmental sustainability, investment attractiveness, agricultural development and issues of Customs Union and Association Agreement. InterRail Tour gathered a total of 534 delegates, 15 committee chairpersons, 5 presidents, 4 journalists, 2 editors, 40 organisers and 2 head organisers. This year, EYP Ukraine has introduced an innovation to better use the Tour’s breadth: travelling media team. The project was supported by SCM, Open Hearts, FoodBank Foundation, Jansen Capital Management, the British Embassy in Ukraine and by various local enterprises, authorities and media in the regions.

Mini-Sessions and Other Events EYP Ukraine Weekend and EYP Day (or Mini-Session) are 1-2 day events which gather 30 to 50 participants designed to promote the organisation, make potential members acquainted with session procedures and to provide young teamleaders a platform to gain new experience. Mini-Sessions are funded through the EYP Alumni Fund programme. • • • •

Ukrainian National Committee organises various trainings for its members and international guests in order to share expertise, to acquire vital skills, to enhance cooperation within the organisation, to analyse and form a common strategy and course of action for the upcoming period. • Chairs Academic Training of EYP Ukraine 2013, 26-27th January in Kyiv • 2nd EYP Ukraine Alumni Weekend, 26-27th October in Kyiv Francophone sessions are unique projects of our national Committee to support francophonia and promote French as the second working language of the European Youth Parliament in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. The 2nd Francophone Weekend was held on 7-8th December in Kyiv and has welcomed delegates and officials from Ukraine and France. The event was supported by the French Embassy in Ukraine.

74th International Session in Tbilisi, Georgia Dates: 4th – 13th of October. Topic: “Europe on its frontiers – Deepening cooperation”. Special guest: Štefan Füle, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, has addressed the participants. NGO G20 Summit NGO G20 Summit is an event for the biggest and most active youth NGOs in Ukraine. The 3rd Summit was organised by Ksenia Choni on behalf of the EYP Ukraine in Kyiv on May 25-26, 2013. The Summit was aimed for establishing and strengthening cooperation between youth NGOs in Ukraine by organising joint projects in five selected areas: • Culture and Arts; • Youth Entrepreneurship and Business; • Social Initiatives; • Education and Science; • European Integration; Ukraine and the World. Representatives of the EYP Ukraine took part in organising the event, moderating working groups, representing the organisation’s position and consulting all the participants.

In order to achieve its goals, the third NGO G20 Summit contained a wide range of activities: exhibition of youth NGOs, participating in the Summit; case study “Ukraine: lessons from history”; lectures of respected and experienced speakers (Oleh Rybachuk – former politician and civil activist, Hennadiy Druzenko - lawyer, expert on Constitutional and European law, translator, essayist and others); TED talks; group work on joint projects and their presentation.

EYP Ukraine Projects EYPigeon The official corporate newspaper of EYP Ukraine, also known as EYPigeon, is a project of the PR-department of our organisation, which was established in 2011. The newspaper comes out several times a year and is a digest of EYP Ukraine’s events. The main aim of the publication is to highlight the activities of the organisation and offer its members to develop their journalist, individual and professional skills.
French Learning Club Meeting once a week, the young learners were introduced to the core concepts and rules of reading and composing sentences. Students are confidently enhancing their linguistic aptitudes and preparing themselves to francophone debates at various sessions. The Club has a shifting tutor principle, implemented in order to expose French language at different angles.
EYPoint of view Memories about the brightest events of the year are introduced in the set of videos, known as EYPoint of view. They are fun, entertaining and describe best the projects and events we had in 2013.
EYPolls EYP-Ukraine is an active participant of the European Youth Polls, as well as an organiser of its own social research, such as the research regarding the availability of wireless Internet access at university campuses across Ukraine. Ukrainians are among the most active participants of the EYP Polls. In particular, this year the following polls took place: 1. European Youth Poll on Gender Equality. 4112 participants, 267 Ukrainians (3rd place). 2. European Youth Poll on Military Interventions. 2141 participants, 107 Ukrainians (4th place). 3. European Youth Poll on Mass Surveillance. 2130 participants, 127 Ukrainians (4th place).
New website This year, PR department with help of several members have finally launched a new website. For sure, a big amount of work still has to be done, however a much bigger part was already done by those enthusiasts, who devoted their time and energy. The new web-site is bright, colourful and modern, reflecting the mood of Ukrainian youth. You can always access all the important information about EYP Ukraine, events and projects under www.eyp-ua.org.

Further Activities EYP Ukraine possesses a great interest towards the society, therefore every year we try to take part in a number of socially beneficial projects and initiatives. Also, In 2013 the European Youth Parliament – Ukraine has established cooperation with various embassies in Ukraine. • Let’s Do It Ukraine. An all-Ukrainian ecological initiative Let’s Do It Ukraine, taking place annually in April, this year was further supported by EYP Ukraine in a number of cities across the country. Since 2011 the initiative gathers hundreds of Ukrainians every spring in parks and forests for the sake of cleaner environment and formation of ecologically conscious approach to nature. • Run Under Chestnuts. The ‘Run Under Chestnuts’ is a traditional charity run, organized annually at the end of May in Kyiv. EYP Ukraine formed its own team for this event. Later on all the raised funds were transferred to the children cardio hospital. • Reception at the Swiss Embassy. Representatives of the European Youth Parliament were invited for a reception with the Swiss Ambassador Christian Schoenenberger. • Meeting with Dame Audrey Glover. The Embassy of the UK in Ukraine organized a meeting with the OSCE/ODIHR Head Dame Audrey Glover for Ukrainian youth and EYP Ukraine was among the invited youth NGOs. On the premise of the embassy Dame Audrey Glover discussed with the youngsters democracy issues and elections process in the country. • Alumni Reunion. In addition to networking for several generations of EYP Ukraine Alumni, this year’s event was marked with the Alumna Fund presentation. • Spring General Assembly. During the event, members have presented various sessions, in which they have participated. Also, a short session simulation was held for more than 50 participants. • Autumn General Assembly and Board Elections. After session presentations, several rounds of debates were held with candidates for Board and Auditing Committee positions for 2014. • Winter General Assembly with Bohdan Hawrylyshyn and EYP Awards. At the sum up event of 2013, EYP Ukraine has welcomed its partners, Open Hears of Ukraine, Jansen Capital Management and FoodBank Foundation. The key element was a discussion with a prominent Ukrainian economist and activist Dr Bohdan Hawrylyshyn.
