CALL FOR APPLICATIONS President Kharkiv'17 - 11th National Selection Conference of European Youth Parliament Ukraine. EYP Ukraine has decided to launch the open call for the President of the 11th National Selection Conference. Previously, we have invited several candidates for this position, but they have rejected either because of their University load or involvement in the other EYP event. Therefore, we have realised that we were limited in our choice with our personal contacts and inability to know each and every EYPer who can take over the project. Our shortlist of potential Presidents is confined to the contacts of the Board of EYP Ukraine and the Selection Panel. Hence, after discussing the issue in depths, we have decided to open this call. This year, EYP Ukraine organises the 11th National Selection Conference that will take place in Kharkiv from the 11th to 15th of July. The President is expected to arrive in Kyiv on the 9th of July before 12:00 EET and the departure may be planned from Kyiv on July 16 14:00 EET onwards. For officials, the Session will start 2 days prior, on the 9th of July since we would like to have 2 days dedicated to the pre-session training. This is not set in stone yet and we invite the future President to discuss this with the session Head-Organisers. Also, the President of the Session is expected to have a brunch with the Board of EYP Ukraine on July 16 around 10:00 EET in Kyiv and share the first-hand feedback regarding the Session. The Session President is also invited to join one of the Organisers’ weekends via Skype or in person.
Host city Kharkiv is the second largest city of Ukraine, that is situated in the northeast of the country. The city was founded in 1654 and after a humble beginning as a small fortress grew to be a major centre of Ukrainian industry, trade and culture. Nowadays, the city is known as a “city of students” since currently there are more than 180 000 students and around 125 universities and colleges, and “Ukrainian Silicon Valley”. Also, a well-known landmark of Kharkiv is the Freedom Square, which is the 15th largest city square in the world and the largest square in Europe and a Ferris wheel in the Gorky park is the biggest one in Ukraine. Taking into account the location,
beauty and significance of Kharkiv, we believe, it is the perfect place to host the 11th National Selection Conference of European Youth Parliament Ukraine. Moreover, the event will host the 17th anniversary of the European Youth Parliament Ukraine, to which alumni of EYP Ukraine, active EYPers, guests and friends of EYP Ukraine will be invited.
Academic aspect The umbrella topic for the Sessions is “Securing the future” and we have developed 4 clusters within the given topic: Social, Political, Environmental and Technological. Let us highlight that we have developed this topic in cooperation with the Academic Council of EYP. We expect the Session President to develop the committee topics together with the Chairs’ Team and take care of the academic aspect of the event at all stages. We developed a document with different committee topics which will be certainly at the President’s disposal. Moreover, the event concept will be further developed and shaped in cooperation with the Session President and consequently with the Session Editor(s) and their respective teams.
Atmosphere Furthermore, as far as EYP is famous for its unique atmosphere, our aim is to hold one of the most unforgettable sessions of EYP Ukraine, that will stay in hearts of its participants for a long time! This, however, does not mean that academic quality should be overlooked since we consider it to be an important aspect of the session. We also have a more practical dream for this session sustainability. We will take care both of the environment (by recycling during the whole session and using as much eco-friendly stuff as possible) and the health of the session’s participants (hold as many activities as possible outdoors, providing healthy food etc.). Last, but not least, what do we expect from the Session President to be innovative, supportive and active leader, who is eager to contribute to the future of EYP Ukraine and develop civil society in Ukraine!
