WELCOME WORD FROM MR. PRESIDENT Dearest participants, I can't believe it's only less than a month until we will meet in Chernihiv. I, for one, can't wait to begin exploring the session theme Equality: the Key to the Future with you. Soon, you will be contacted by your chairperson(s), start getting to know your committee begin preparing yourselves academically for what will surely be a week of fun, self-discovery and meeting new people from all over Europe! However, I'm lucky to have the chance to address you before any of this starts. I would like to tell you something about EYP that I wish I had been told before my first session. At moments, a lot of things will be happening and between wearing suits, speaking English and being around people you've only just met for 5 days, it is easy to lose sight of what you're doing. Don't let this get to you. EYP sessions create a special atmosphere because nobody will judge you for being yourself and everybody is looking to make new friends and have a good time together. Spend less time thinking you don't understand the topic well enough and more time asking questions and getting to know your topic better. Forget your worries and focus on creating lasting memories. EYP is a unique place and the more you put in it, the more you will get from it. How much do you want to get from Chernihiv 2018? It's in your hands. See you soon,

Thanos Theofanakis President of Chernihiv 2018

WELCOME WORD FROM THE HEAD ORGANISER

Dear delegate! It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to Chernihiv`18 - 12th National Selection Conference of EYP Ukraine. As a Head Organiser, I have cherished the ideas for this session for many months. Now, when my dreams are coming true, I cannot express how happy I am that you are a part of this session. I hope Chernihiv`18 will be as challenging for you as it is for me. You will be challenged from the very first email from the organising team till the very last made point during GA. Accept this challenge and I promise, you will never regret it. On behalf of the Organising Team,

Tetiana Lavrichenko Head Organiser of Chernihiv`18

WHAT IS EYP? The European Youth Parliament (EYP) was founded in 1987 as a pan-European school project, which spreads and promotes the idea of united Europe and European citizenship. It is a unique educational programme which brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current topics in a parliamentary setting. As a network of independent associations, EYP is present in 40 European countries and organises almost 600 events every year. The EYP network organises almost 1.500 days of EYP activity every year, involving close to 35.000 participants. Thousands of young people are active as volunteers all over Europe, making EYP a programme truly for young people, by young people. Registered with the Government of Ukraine on February 18, 2002, European Youth Parliament Ukraine is a full-fledged participant in civil society development process in Ukraine. It has been successfully operating in Ukraine since 2000.

NATIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE

National Selection Conference in Ukraine occurs once a year and aims to select its best participants to represent EYP Ukraine at International Sessions. National Selection Conference lasts for 5 days, during which delegates work in committees discussing political, economic, social and cultural issues that are on agenda of the relevant committees of the European Parliament. National Sessions usually gather around 100-150 participants, together with international committee chairpersons, journalists and the board of the session. Chernihiv is the host city of the session in 2018. It is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine with over 1300 years history. The umbrella topic of the this year's National Selection Conference is "Equality: the key to the Future". Within the 5 days, between 10th to 14th of July, young leaders will be examining current issues of civil society development in both Ukraine and Europe overall, seeking solutions that will be drawn together in a Resolution. For greater functionality and performance, all participants will be divided into 6 working groups (committees) that will work under the guidance of experienced moderators from Europe and Ukraine.

EVENTS DESCRIPTION TEAMBUILDING … let's play some hilarious games here! Actually, teambuilding is a set of physical and intellectual games and exercises, in the course of which delegates get united and built into teams they are going to work in during academic part of the session. Teambuilding is held on the first day of the session and is basically having fun and getting acquainted with each other. Dress code: casual

ORGANISERS’ TIPS Beware! It is going to be really hot this time in Ukraine, so make sure you are ready for such weather ;)

DON’T FORGET TO TAKE! ● A hat (we love sun, but too much of it is harmful) ● Sunscreen (will be helpful as well) ● A BOTTLE FOR WATER (essential part of successful hot-survival)

OPENING CEREMONY & EUROVILLAGE Chernihiv is breaking stereotypes! We would like to combine 2 traditionally separate events in order to create a truly special atmosphere of European cultural diversity and to show its reflection in EYP. The evening will start with a tasty Eurovillage-dinner, for which all the delegates will be divided into groups, each of them representing a certain European country. Using culinary skills, local supermarkets and, of course, creativity, everyone is required to prepare national food of the country assigned. You can get anything from traditional snacks to Italian pizzas! Do not forget to bring/buy forks, spoons, cups, napkins etc! After the dinner, we will move on the official part of the evening Opening Ceremony. You will hear some inspiring speeches delivered by people who have put their effort and heart into making this session happen. Get ready to smile, cry, hug and dance a lot at this bright celebration! Dress code: national clothes / casual / something unbelievably creative ;)

ORGANISERS’ TIPS To make your Eurovillage presentation brighter, you SHOULD prepare traditional songs, dances or some interesting stories about the culture of your country!

DON’T FORGET TO BRING! ● Forks, spoons, cups, napkins etc to serve your tables for everyone ;) ● ANTI-mosquito SPRAY (it could keep your body safe and soul calm outside) ● Some part of clothes to take on if it gets colder in the evening ;) ● Positive energy and your beautiful smiles ;)

EVENTS DESCRIPTION COMMITTEE WORK Committee Work is the main, "smart" part of the session which will occupy 3 days of the whole event. During committee work, all the committees will dive into the heated academic discussions of the problems stated in their topics. Supervised by chairpersons, committees go through an intense working procedure: brainstorming, debating and phrasing. The aim of committee work is to produce a motion for resolution, in which the ideas and solutions for a specific issue are expressed. Dress code: smart casual

CITY QUEST ...intrigued? Yes, our goal is to make you fall in love with the authentic beauty of Chernihiv and cozy atmosphere of Ukrainian cities in general! That is why get ready to run fast, think quickly, use your creativity and enjoy the most unforgettable quest in your life! Dress code: casual (make sure you wear sneakers and truly comfortable clothes ;) Location: secret (haha ;)

ORGANISERS’ TIPS Remember! The more you put in, the more you get out. So try to ensure that you give enough time for academic preparation before the session to make your discussions truly fruitful!

...and! "One should never walk alone"... If you dream about performing with somebody else, feel free to find a partner at the session and prepare something interesting together;)

GENERAL ASSEMBLY At the General Assembly (GA), which is on the last day of the session, all the committees are invited to present their motions for resolution and deliver a number of speeches to defend their ideas and vision. Other committees are invited to attack a proposing committee, debate on its solutions, and, eventually, vote for or against the presented resolution.
