The President(s) and the Editor(s) are expected to arrive in Kyiv on the 7th of July before 12:00 EEST and the departure may be planned from Kyiv on July 15 16:00 EEST onwards. The Session President is also invited to join one of the Organisers’ weekends via Skype or in person.
Head Organiser’s vision: 1. Two umbrella topics The EYP Ukraine umbrella topic for the year is “Innovative democracy”. We give the freedom to the Session President(s) to develop the session’s umbrella topic and committee topics together with the Chairs’ Team. The President(s) are also expected to take care of the academic aspect of the event at all stages.
“Technology is now firmly embedded throughout our everyday
activities, sometimes to a degree where digital becomes invisible, blurring the lines with the physical world. But the reach of innovation is even larger than that: innovation is reshaping our society. This level of integration is the next great societal evolution. The world is reimagining itself. Taking this into consideration, how technological advances influence the development of democratic society? How the democratic society is changing under the influence of innovations? What is the role of democracy in modern world? These and more questions will be discussed this year by EYP
”
Ukraine.
Apart from the academic topic of President’s choice, Kyiv 2019 will also have the so-called “organisational topic” – Sustainability and Minimal Ecological Footprint. The organising team will ensure we come as close to zero waste format as possible and will show that it is a realistic goal for Ukraine. We hope that the participants will not only get better acquainted with the EU matters but will be able to take away practical tips on sustainability and further implement them in their lives. 2. The Educational Day The National Selection Conference will consist of the three traditional session elements: 1,5 days of Teambuilding, 2,5 days of Committee Work, and 1 day for the General Assembly. The additional 6th day will be devoted to the organisational topic explained above. During the Educational Day, the participants will be able to find out about ways to produce less waste in daily life by participating in workshops and lectures, attending recycling stations and learning about the concept in other ways. For the Chairs’ Team, this will be an opportunity to reflect on the work already done, properly plan the last day of Committee Work and start working on the resolutions with the Board of the Session. All officials will also be able to join workshops, lectures, and tours, or spend a few hours in the centre of Kyiv exploring the city. The extra day will give the Media Team some more time to work on creative projects. 3. Co-leadership Following the example of EYP the Netherlands, and specifically the Amsterdam National Selection Conference, Kyiv 2019 will provide leadership applicants with an option to co-preside or co-jury in the same way we allow session Editors to co-edit. This does not mean that the Selection Panel will prefer or prioritize double applications in any way, it is simply a semi-innovative attempt to expand the range of possibilities for prospective leadership candidates.
