Leopolis 2013 Selection Panel Report - Chairs Team

Selection Report The Selection Panel of the Forum consisted of Kerstin Eckart (President of the Forum), Roksolana Pidlasa (Forum Supervisor), Mariia Ihnatova and Nazar Zhovtovsky (Head-organisers), and representatives of the Board of EYP-Ukraine. The Panel has carefully reviewed and discussed the application forms and agreed upon the following list for the Forum’s Chairs Team: President Kerstin Eckart (DE) Vice-Presidents Oksana Korchak (UA) Jorge Simelio (ES) Chairs Elisa Martinelli (IT) Dean Connolly (UK) Yannick Van Bogaert (BE) Jakob Etzel (AT) Jara Verkleij (NL) Laura Thiemt (DE) Alex Guzenko (UA) Olha Shvets (UA) The Panel received 52 applications from 44 individuals, including 8 applicants who applied both for the positions of Chairperson and Vice-President. One application was submitted long after the announced deadline, and was not considered by the Panel. Applications came from 16 countries, a more detailed statistics can be found on the graph below. Eventually, the Chairs Team consists of 11 individuals representing 8 countries.

Also, it is worth mentioning that gender balance within the Chairs Team was achieved by the Panel, disregarding the given conditions (see the graphs below).

It was decided that the Chairs Team should present a balance of gender, experience and nationality with the bigger share for the applicants coming from the hosting National Committee (1 Vice-President and 2 Chairpersons). Members of the Selection Panel voiced their opinion on each of the applicants, analysed their strengths and weaknesses and came to the compromise-based decision.

Prior to opening the Call, the Panel has decided upon the main criteria to be taken into account during selection process: -

Experience of the applicant; it is important to mention that the Panel was looking for relatively inexperienced Ukrainian applicants to endorse their further involvement within EYP (excluding the candidates for Vice-President’s position); Quality of the submitted application form and proven motivation of the applicant to attend the Forum; For Ukrainian applicants only - contribution into the work of National Committee was viewed as a benefit; Overall gender and country balance of the Team.

It is crucial to emphasize that considering the candidacies of both foreign and Ukrainian applicants, the Panel remained fully unbiased and followed the principles set before the start of selection procedure. To strengthen the objectivity of the selection, all questionable moments concerning Ukrainian applicants were solved with the help of the President of the Forum.

Finally, the Panel would like to thank all the applicants for the efforts they put into their application forms and encourage everyone to apply for the next sessions and Forums of EYP-Ukraine.
