SELECTION REPORT Selection Report for the Media Team Members of Kharkiv'17 — 11th NSC of EYP Ukraine, 10-15 July 2017 The Selection Panel composed by Maria Fedoruk and Jannis Betschki (Editors of the Session), Tetiana Lavrichenko (Supervisor of the Session), Valeriia Nikitenko and Oleksandr Polishchuk (Head Organisers of the Session) ​has concluded the selection of eight Journalists, one Editorial Assistant and one Video Editor. It should be noted, that the Editors’ pre-selection was made anonymously, while the final selection by the Selection Panel was made not anonymously.

Journalists Applications

The panel received applications from 34 applicants (21 female, 13 male) in total, with applicants coming from the following countries: Ukraine (15), the Czech Republic (4), Turkey (3), Azerbaijan (2), France (2), Poland (1), Norway (1), Lithuania (1), Estonia (1), Finland (1), Portugal (1), Italy (1), the Netherlands (1). Deliberations During the selection process, every application was reviewed carefully. The panel discussed all applications thoroughly, taking into consideration the experience and personal motivation of the applicants, English language skills, clarity of their vision for the session, the profiles of potential Journalists, previous experience as a Media Team Member as well as their insight into the responsibilities of the position they were applying for. As far as the Head-Organisers and the Supervisor of the Session are not experienced in the sphere of Media, they decided that the final decision of the Selection Panel will be mostly based on the grounded opinion of the Editors of the Session. As far as four candidates have fulfilled all the requirements for the position and proposed interesting projects, their applications were unanimously approved by the Selection Panel at the very first stage.


At the next stage, fifteen more candidates were rejected due to the lack of sufficient experience and general understanding of the role, they were applying for. Hence, at the final stage of the selection process, there were eleven candidates left. After heated debates, the Selection Panel approved four more candidates and decided to put five applicants to a “waiting list”. However, as during the confirmation and the invitation process, one of the previously selected candidates has rejected, the Selection Panel invited the candidate from the “waiting list”​. Editorial Assistant and Video Editor Applications

For the role of Editorial Assistant, the panel received applications from 2 applicants (both female), with applicants coming from Ukraine and the Czech Republic. For the role of Video Editor, the panel received one application from a male Ukrainian applicant. Deliberations During the selection process, every application was reviewed carefully. The panel discussed all applications thoroughly, taking into consideration the experience and personal motivation of the applicants, English language skills, clarity of their vision for the session, the profiles of potential Editorial Assistant and Video Editor, previous experience as a Media Team Member as well as their insight into the responsibilities of the position they were applying for.


As far as the candidate for the position of the ​Video Editor has fulfilled all the requirements for the position and demonstrated creative vision, his application was unanimously approved by the Selection Panel at the very first stage. Regarding the applications for the Editorial Assistant, one of the candidates showed that she fulfilled all the requirements for the position and demonstrated creative vision, while the second candidate had significant non-EYP media experience, but lack of EYP experience and rather general and unclear vision of the position, she was applying for. The Selection Panel unanimously approved the first application. The Selection Panel would like to emphasise that despite ​Klára Scholleová is a good friend of the Editors of the session, only her application, concrete ideas and previous experience was taken into account during the selection process. The panel was grateful to receive applications from motivated candidates who showed interest in the session and being part of the Kharkiv ‘17 — 11th National Selection Conference of EYP Ukraine. Furthermore, the panel appreciates those applicants who have put a lot of effort in writing their applications and who presented their capacity to contribute to the session’s vision and ideas in their applications. The panel strongly encourages all the applicants to use the next opportunities to become a part of the events of EYP Ukraine! The panel guarantees that every application was discussed and considered thoroughly. Moreover, the panel assures that the confirmation and the invitation process was monitored carefully and with complete confidentiality.
