Jesus being convicted by the Pharisees
a Nutshell
By Ari Wyner Who was Jesus? Jesus was
a Jewish
philosopher who
is believed to be
the Messiah. It
is said his father
was God and his
mother was
Mary, but Mary
was a virgin.
He had many
beliefs that were
very fanatic for
his time and
many people
criticized him
for this. He said he was
the Son of God
and many Jews were outraged. It was said Jesus went and performed miracles. He would heal the sick, and he could turn water to wine. A Jewish sect known as the Pharisees sent him to Pontius Pilate to be murdered. One story is Pontius Pilate said the Pharisees had a choice to kill a terrible murderer, but they instead

chose to kill Jesus. He was crucified on a Friday afternoon and each of his twelve followers has different interpretations of what really happened. The most common one is that he was offered wine vinegar and then bread, but he refused. He died that night and was buried in a nearby area known as the garden of skulls. It was said that when he died he died with all his followers’ sins enabling them to go to heaven. The next Sunday he was resurrected and came back to visit each follower
Christianity His followers became known as Christians and the new religion rapidly spread. One of his followers known as Paul went all around the Mediterranean spreading news and telling stories of Jesus. It quickly became one of the largest religions. Paul also believed that if you became Christian it was its own religions so you wouldn’t have to follow the Jewish Mitzvot. It was revolutionary for their time.
Christianity in the Middle Ages and the Blood Libels and Desecration of the Host During the 12th century as the Christian population grew they became more and more annoyed at the Jews, because they believed the Pharisees were the reason Jesus died there for the Jews were Christ Killers. They came up with nasty convictions of the Jews,

including one known as the murder of Simon Trent. It happened when a little boy was found dead near a Jews house so all the Jews in the village were arrested. Now lets get to the Desecration of the Host. This Woodcut from

convicted of
stealing the wafers and wine from the Church, which represented Jesus’ flesh and blood, and then burning it to “re-kill” Jesus. The Jews were forced into terrible positions because of the Christians accusations.
