FROM THE

General Manager

Dear Prince’s Grant,

Winter at PG is a time for our Estate staff to take stock of annual maintenance projects—the coastal gardens aren’t growing at breakneck speed, and we have fewer visitors and residents on site. We have also had an opportunity to go through various Estate issues raised by members. It has been a busy season for the teams on the ground, and we thank them for their efforts, and all residents for your involvement and understanding of the projects happening around you.

We hope that you are enjoying the various, weekly events that have been arranged at the Lodge. We appreciate the community spirit that these events bring.

We have also experienced higher numbers of members joining us for dinner or takeaways, and the extended Happy Hour at the Bar (16:30 – 18:30) has proven popular.

wedding in front of the Lodge on Women’s day, and I’m pleased to report that it went off without a hitch (except for the bride and groom!), considering there was a Golf Day at the same time. The organisation and efforts of the staff meant that both events went on seamlessly.

AGM Pack. The weekend of 20th September 2024 will be dedicated to meetings and discussions with the provisional details as follows:

Just the other week, PG hosted a Women’s Golf fundraiser, and anyone who saw the fantastic décor in the Lodge would have been proud to be associated with PG and the talented people who were involved in the setup. We also hosted another garden

We are making strong strides forward with compliance, addressing matters which range from safety to aesthetics. Compliance notices have gone out relating to several issues and your support and respect is appreciated.

The AGM is fast approaching. Members will soon receive the Notice of Meeting and the

I look forward to spending time going through the various aspects of the business of the HOA with you—financials, environmental concerns, power issues, etc. I encourage you to attend and participate in these meetings.

Yours sincerely,

Commercial Manager FROM THE RENO + STAGE TO SELL/RENT

Dear Residents, Writing articles for The Prince’s Grant newsletter gives one the chance to pause and reflect on the past few months—what we can be thankful for and what lies ahead on our horizon.

It’s hard to believe we’re already in September. I think my team and I are in the same boat, still recovering from December 2023 while simultaneously planning the Holiday programme for

December 2024. Last December was definitely a matter of survival, but we’re excited at how much we have already achieved, and about the upcoming planning season. We will keep you updated on what’s in store.

My team and I have focused on two main aspects of running an operation like this:

HOSPITALITY and COMMUNITY . These are crucial elements that can either make or break everything we strive to achieve. True hospitality involves making others feel valued and appreciated through thoughtful actions and positive interactions. As a service-minded team, we prioritise this definition in all our engagements with residents and employees. Whether it’s filling a common area with music, sharing a smile as we pass by each other or handling a difficult situation, we are committed to authentic hospitality. Community involvement is often a more challenging goal to achieve, but not here at Prince’s Grant.

Over the past few months, I’ve been amazed by the residents’ love for the Estate and their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure Prince’s Grant shines. Thank you to all

those who engage directly with me and my team. We always welcome positive or constructive feedback. The greatest aspect of both hospitality and community is the continuous pursuit of improvement. Settling into a comfortable place and thinking we’ve made it is not an option. As a leader, one of my core attributes is constantly seeking areas for enhancement—whether it’s in the quality of cappuccino or the execution of large events. This drive for excellence helps motivate our team to be selfdriven and accountable.

We’ve made some changes to the Lodge’s policies and procedures. While some changes might be challenging, please know that we are committed to bettering ourselves, your experiences, and the long-term success of the PGHOA.

We’ve also updated our monthly events. While Bingo Evening and the Night Run are currently on hold, we’ll be reintroducing these during the busier holiday periods.

We’re excited to introduce two new Friday night events each month between 18:00 – 21:00:

“Friday Night Live”: Enjoy local musicians and their talents at the Lodge.

“Friday Night Grooves”: Join us for themed evenings in the pub with drink specials, dress-up themes, and dancing.

Please keep an eye out for our monthly event schedules to stay updated. We look forward to hosting you.

I can’t express enough gratitude to all residents and employees who have welcomed me into the community and allowed me to lead the Lodge team and operations. I look forward to building long-lasting relationships with each one of you. Feel free to reach out to me anytime via email or WhatsApp. An easier way to engage with me is over my obsession for coffee. It’s gold hue, crisp, and cold taste… OK, beer… I meant beer!

Here’s to an amazing spring season on our beautiful estate. I’m looking forward to welcoming newborn antelope, enjoying the seasonal changes, and savouring longer evenings for slow walks, sundowners on the beach, or spotting whales as they migrate north to breed and calve in warmer waters.

Kind regards,

Ladies Captain FROM THE

What a year it has been so far. So many firsts for me as I embarked on my journey as a Ladies Golf Captain, and seeing first-hand just what being part of this amazing community really means!

From beginners ladies golf, which we named “Newbies” as none of us felt like bunnies, to the 30th club champs which saw one of our ‘A’ division ladies, Liezl Smit, winning with a fantastic gross score that

was the best across the board of Ladies and Men’s golf! An “out of Africa” charity day that showcased just what PG can host when we all come together and was a huge success! Can I also mention that I got my first hole in one, as did Anette King, and Tanya Dahl on the Ladies Charity Day!

The Newbies programme has been closest to my heart, as I began my golfing journey

fairly recently, and it's always been my ambition to get more lady golfers playing, and enjoying this sport as much as I do!

Despite all the changes in the Pro Shop this year, we have managed to keep the programme going and the ladies are getting back on the range with the help of Mike Kieser who is kindly donating an hour or two of his time each week to the programme, and perhaps other volunteers will come forward to help! Here's

hoping that new blood will join the ladies golfing community soon and help ladies golf at Prince's Grant grow. I remember my first couple of weeks as captain, and writing a list of what I would like to achieve.

Apart from the Newbies group

I felt it was important to try and form a more cohesive group of lady golfers at Prince's grant and although challenging, as Prince's grant is a unique community with many of our golfers also enjoying their

retirement and travelling extensively, I feel that to some extent this has been achieved. I have also realised that PG beats to its own rhythm and what works is best left alone!

A new Birdie Tree wallpaper was designed and installed in the ladies changing rooms to keep the tradition of recording birdies throughout the year and make them more visible, and I hope to make it work a little better next year, keeping it updated and keeping little hands off the name tags! It showcases all the birds of the estate, as well as all the golfing birdies.

It’s a lovely Ladies Golf tradition which I know all the golfing ladies enjoy by the enthusiasm in which they let me know once a birdie is achieved! In November, the amount of birdies made by each lady are totted up and a cup is won.

this took wings with the Wednesday Afternoon Golf Society, WAGS, which amalgamated a couple of pre-existing Wednesday golf schools and had become a very popular and fun mixed golf day incorporating the Wednesday meat comp.

Mixed golf is a unique part of the PG community and

We are up to 24 players on most Wednesdays. If you want to join please contact me and I will add you to the group. We normally Tee off at 23:00. The annual ladies charity golf day is always one

From bakers to makers of props, to registrars, raffle takers, table setters, and golf results recorders.

of the greatest responsibilities in a Ladies Captain year. It was a great honour to lead, and be advised by such a small but enthusiastic team of ladies. It will be an experience I will never forget. The ladies of the community got together and helped put on an out of Africa extravaganza that I'm sure will be remembered for years to come raising money for St Luke's Home of Healing. We had a record number of participants, 31 four balls, and had to accommodate 129 ladies for lunch afterwards. The whole estate was abuzz with preparations, and the event would not have been so successful without Rowena Hagemann and her team of volunteers!

You all know who you are (I would love to list every name)

and I am indebted to you all for making my first charity event a huge success.

There are still many golfing competitions on the calendar for this year, and I hope to see many of you on the course.

Let’s keep watching and supporting women's golf! Statistics say that the number of female golfers rose about 15 per cent and the men’s pool just 2 per cent in the same time frame!

Newbies Golf PROGRAMME

SPRING RECIPES

Beef Trinchado

A sought-after dish at Prince’s Grant, offering both comfort as well as a flavour kick that our residents can’t get enough of.

Serves 6 starter portions

INGREDIENTS:

• 500g beef sirloin (cubed)

• 1 red onion (diced)

• 1 tsp garlic (crushed)

• 1 red chilli (de-seeded & finely chopped)

• 10ml sunflower oil

• 500ml Napoletana sauce (tomato puree works well as a substitute)

• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

• 150ml fresh cream

• 150ml dry red wine

• 20g tomato paste

• 2 tsp smoked paprika

• Salt & pepper to taste

METHOD:

2. Add the wine, deglazing the pan, stir continuously and allow the wine to reduce by half the volume.

3. Add all other ingredients, except the cream, and season. Bring up to the boil and stir for 5 minutes.

4. Add the cream just before serving, stirring well to incorporate

1. Add the sunflower oil into a large saucepan over a very high heat. Once the oil begins to smoke, briefly fry the cubed beef. Once browned and seared, add the diced red onion and the tomato paste. Stir for 2 minutes.

5. Serve immediately with toasted ciabatta bread

Mexican Chicken Fettuccine

The perfect dish for the beginning of spring. An entertainers delight. Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:

• 800g (4) chicken breast fillets

• 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

• 2 tsp paprika

• 8 tots tequila silver

• 60ml olive oil

• 1 tsp cayenne pepper

• 2 tsp Italian mixed herbs

• 2 tsp garlic (crushed)

• 1 onion (thinly sliced)

• 1 red pepper (diced)

• 1 green pepper (diced)

• 80g pickled jalapeño (diced)

• 500ml fresh cream

• 300g fettuccine pasta

• Salt and pepper to taste

METHOD:

1. Bring a large pot of water to the boil and salt heavily. I once asked an Italian chef how much salt to add to the boiling water, his instruction was simple… “make the water saltier than the Mediterranean Sea”.

Add the pasta and cook until al dente. Remove, strain (saving 1 cup of the water used while boiling), and rinse with cold water.

Rinsing with cold water stops the cooking process and will ensure that the pasta does not stick together. We called this an entertainers delight as all steps can be prepared to this stage and quickly finished off before service.

2. Season the chicken with the salt, pepper, paprika, and half of the mixed herbs. Heat half the olive oil on a griddle pan and begin cooking the chicken fillets.

3. While the chicken is cooking, heat the remaining olive oil in a deep saucepan. Add the onion, red and green pepper, jalapeño, turmeric, tequila, cayenne pepper, remaining mixed herbs, garlic, and cream. Bring to a boil, and reduce for 5 minutes.

4. Toss in the cooked pasta and stir well to combine. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash or two of the pasta water that you reserved earlier.

5. Plate the pasta mix in the middle of a large bowl. Slice the cooked chicken fillet diagonally, and serve one on the top of each pasta bowl.

6. Garnish with micro herbs for a pop of colour, and pour a chilled wooded chardonnay for your guests.
