Façon Beauté
Beauty Q&A With Hanami Cosmetics H
anami Cosmetics is an Australianmade, proudly independently owned and woman-run brand: a trifecta of things we love and champion here at Façon Magazine. Featuring a non-toxic range of nail polish es, lipsticks, mascaras an d more, Hanami Cosmetic’s core belief is providing cosmetics with a conscience, and great beauty without all the nasties! We sat down with naturopath and creator of Hanami Cosmetics, Hannah Jones, to talk to her about all things ethical beauty.
Why are cruelty-free products so important to you? I have always held a deep connection and concern for the welfare of animals; growing up in Tasmania on a large property, I always had a menagerie of rescued wildlife and pets to look after, which is where it all started for me. I’m very passionate about seeing an end to animal experimentation in my lifetime. I operate from a position of respect and care for others and the earth, but I’m also very aware of the decades of harm that have been done before us (and that continues around us). Which is why I care so much about creating a cosmetics brand with a conscience, and doing my part to right the industry’s wrongs.
I pour my heart and my values into making vegan, cruelty-f ree and nontoxic cosmetics so our customers can feel good and look good whilst knowing the products they’re using are not causing unnecessary harm to others.
We love your ethos “Cosmetics with a Conscience”, how did you come up with it? Do no harm. Support local. Respect and care for others, and the earth. These are the core values I live by, and that led me to create an ethical beauty brand, to help people express their full and creative selves without compromising their ethics, which I think is perfectly summed up by our tagline!
What was your inspiration for starting Hanami Cosmetics? For more than 10 years, I worked in clinics, pharmacies and health food stores as a naturopath. And it always struck me how plain and serious many of the natural ‘clean beauty’ products that hit the shelves were. There was nothing that ever really appealed to me as a lover of colour who doesn’t take themselves too seriously, but who is also a passionate vegan and crueltyf ree advocate. And so, I set out to do it myself!
