Market Kitchen, the culinary hotspot located in Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi, is inviting guests to experience its new, exclusive and highly interactive culinary masterclasses, Market To Kitchen. From start to finish, the Market to Kitchen concept takes food enthusiasts on a gastronomical journey around the capital with cuisine inspired by globally renowned Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The class begins in Market Kitchen’s dining room where attendees can fuel up on complimentary hot beverages and pastries before heading out to explore the capital’s food markets. The first stop is be Abu Dhabi’s Fish Market, where Chef Grand Ballinger will share tips on how to select the freshest catch of the day, followed by a trip to the Fruit and Vegetable Market for a lesson on the seasonality of the produce. Once all of the key ingredients have been purchased, guests return to the hotel to discuss their findings with Chef Grant who then prepares a bespoke meal for the group. Before indulging in the creations of their Market to Kitchen adventure, the final element of the master class is a cocktail mixology lesson session with the talented bar associates. With a group of 10 to 12 people taking part in classes that run from 10.30am to 3pm, this newly-relaunched masterclass just might be what all you amateur cooks and food enthusiasts have been waiting for! Galleries Week Warehouse421 in partnership with Abu Dhabi Art invites new art collectors to the opening of Galleries Week, which will be held at Warehouse421 in Abu Dhabi between April 12 and 19. Easter at The Galleria Mall
The Galleria Mall has exciting and fun-filled Easter activities for the little ones to enjoy this festive season. Willy Wonka is coming to town and he’s embarking on an Easter hunt at The Galleria with his Oompa Loompa friends. During the Easter weekend, children will be led by one of Wonka’s candy girls to sign up to the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory, where they’ll go on a magical treasure hunt, through the shopping centre. The Wonka candy girls will distribute Willy Wonka treasure hunt bags to registered children, ready to be filled with an array of goodies throughout their journey in participating retailers, as well as the children’s very own Golden Ticket! To complete the treasure hunt, each child will have to solve the clue of the Golden Ticket to reach the next golden clue, excitingly working their way through the retailers at The Galleria. Enchanting pit stops along the way include an Oompa Loompa workshop, where guests of The Galleria can help them sort the good eggs from the bad eggs. rt lovers, history enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in the UAE’s rich past, is invited to explore Emirati culture at Warehouse421 through a beautiful, compelling exhibition of tangible and intangible forms of Emirati adornment. Lest We Forget Emirati Adornment: Tangible & Intangible presents personal objects of adornment shared by Emirati contributors along the memories, reflections and works of art that these objects inspire. Bridging the gap between past and current generations, the exhibition will feature both historical and contemporary examples and practices. The exhibition features tangible, concrete, and physically lasting forms of adornment, including garments, burqa, jewellery, weapons, attributes, and accessories. It also considers intangible adornment that is temporal and impermanent — the enhancement of the face and body through the application of evanescent henna, kohl, fragrance, and cosmetics, as well as through grooming, nail care, and hairstyles. The exhibition acknowledges in adornment valuable intangible cultural heritage: the creative spirit, knowledge, skills and aesthetic sensibilities that are passed down from one generation to the next. Dr. Michele Bambling, Creative Director of Lest We Forget, said: “The theme of adornment has universal significance and stirs memories in all of us. The will to adorn is a deeprooted human inclination to beautify, ornament, embellish and make something or someone more attractive,” she continued. “The reasons for enhancing one’s appearance through adornment are profound. An innovative community-based national initiative supported by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation, Lest We Forget seeks to document Emirati vernacular heritage and cultural identity and share it through exhibitions and publications. It’s an innovative grassroots archival initiative that digitally archives, documents and researches the vernacular photography, material culture and spoken histories of the first generations of UAE Nationals and their descendants. Lest We Forget works with a growing network of university students, interns and community members to realise the integrated archival, exhibition, publishing and programming projects. Get ready to go ‘Whoa, Nelly’ all over again as her sixth studio album is LIT! While in the past she’s heavily collaborated with various artists including the likes of Timbaland, The Ride, surprisingly, features no collabos. The album follows a modern pop-alternative theme and definitely establishes a whole new niche. Islands of me is an offbeat synth-pop anthem while Cold hard truth is infused with punk and bounces along on a beat and is reminiscent of her iconic partnership with Timbaland. Pipe Dreams, a hazy, mellow song has a much more airier and lighter sound. The album solely focuses on Nelly’s own music and lyrics - which we LOVE. Fans looking for an extension of her previous chart pop odysseys might have to look elsewhere as her newest offering is a production of John Congleton with the tracks being a middle-ground between her Whoa, Nelly and radio-pop-centered days.

The title track, a sci-fi electronic number with an air of disco-funk, initially sounds very different from their previous work. The music goes into a heavily electronic direction with some cyber-rapping towards the end. Cloud 9 has a future funk sound accompanied with a disco groove and stunning vocals. According to the band, their latest music is meant to represent the rise of artificial intelligence and technology and forgetting to appreciate the simpler things in life. After a seven-year-long hiatus, our expectations were high and the musicians certainly hit the nail on the head. Go, give it a listen and tell us what you think!

This opulent 5-star property ticks the box for great location and business meetings but also goes above and beyond the cold, clinical vibes that you often find in central hotels. You’re greeted by the friendliest staff – no one’s in a rush – in fact, everyone from the doorman to the bellboy, the concierge and those on the front desk, are all polite and happy to engage in light conversation whilst being attentive. It already feels like home! It’s the unique mix of Asian and Arabian hospitality that stands out here. The large lobby area is adorned in intricate floral-inspired design with touches of white, gold and deep browns complementing the various flower arrangements and murals, beautifully. When it comes to muscle cars, Dodge is in a league of its own. This is not surprising when you consider they’ve been assembling quality automobiles for over a century. And though Dodge has alwway been the favourite with motor heads to want speed, performance and that ferocious roar of the engine, the 2016 Dodge Charger is doing something a little different. Here, you’ve got a Dodge with all the usual features that drivers know and love, with the added benefit of being practical enough for the purpose of a family car - cool, right? At first glance, this four-door sedan strikes a muscular Coke-bottle profile, gently reminding us of its relation to the iconic Dodge Viper. This is enhanced by the streamlined side scallops. A distinct C-pillar adds a pronounced fastback appearance, whilst headlamps and tail lamps wrapped at the corners, provide a tailored look. Charger’s signature “racetrack” LED tail lamp features the famous, continuous glowing ribbon, which can be recognised from quite a distance away on the road. For added detail, elongated DRLs and a full-width grille enhance the width of the car, while Dodge logos are etched in the corner of each headlamp. A fascia-mounted dual 64

She certainly is a beauty, and her appeal continues on the inside. An internal inspection of the vehicle led to more impressive aspects being revealed. It’s surprisingly spacious in both the front and rear of the vehicle and comfortably seats five adults. With loads of leg room and supportive sport seats, you’ll feel at home as soon as the door is closed. The seats have multiple adjustment settings including one for lumbar support, great for those long hours stuck in traffic. On some models, the seats, both front and back, are heated with individual operating functions. The available adjustable pedal system is designed to allow a greater range of driver comfort for steering wheel tilt and seat position. It allows you to adjust the brake and accelerator pedals toward or away from the driver to provide improved position with the steering wheel. We appreciate that the buttons to control driver, vehicle and phone information functions being large and illuminated, which make them easy to operate. The Charger’s cockpit comes complete with an 8.4-inch colour Driver Information Display (DID) gauge cluster and all systems work really well in
terms of functionality and reliability. But how does this beast handle on the roads? The Dodge Charger R/T is equipped with the legendary 5.7 litre HEMI V8 engine that delivers 370 hp and 596 nm of torque. This is combined with four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology and a standard TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. This is complete with electronic shifter, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a performance-tuned suspension with larger disc brakes. Able to go from 0 – 100kph in the high five second range, you’re instantly reminded of being in a Dodge muscle car when your foot touches the accelerator and let us tell you, it feels and sounds great! The safety features of this car more than match the raw power. It boasts a driver confidence package which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system provides the driver with audible and visual warnings within DID, to warn the driver when it detects a potential frontal collision. The warnings are intended to provide the driver with enough time to react, avoid or mitigate the potential collision. fact magazine

Say the words Villa Toscana to anybody in Abu Dhabi who loves Italian food and you’ll get raving reviews. The restaurant has become famous for its truly authentic menu and beautiful setting at The St. Regis Abu Dhabi. FACT’s Angela Beitz sat down with the hotel’s Executive Chef Stafano to talk all things Tuscan and tasty.
W
hen you enter Villa Toscana it’s like taking a trip to a beautiful Italian home. And when you’re faced with a sizzling hot piece of Pepperoni pizza minutes after walking in, you know you’re in for a good evening out. This restaurant has SO many qualities but it’s the homely atmosphere that really makes it stand out for us. We’re here for a sit down with Executive Chef Stefano to learn more about the secrets to Villa Toscana’s success and what his philosophy is when it comes to cooking delicious Italian food. “My philosophy is tradition and passion, it stems from my earliest childhood memories, cooking with my mother,” he tells us. “She was my greatest inspiration and many of the recipes I cook today are hers. If you visit Villa Toscana for Expresso Lunch you will see that we serve rustic pizza pie’s on our antipasti buffet, these are an example of a completely original recipe of my mother’s that we share with guests daily”. Chef Stefano also shares that it’s his approach to bringing fresh, authentic ingredients to Abu Dhabi and to find flavours that are not found elsewhere in the capital, that makes Villa Toscana really special. “We produce traditional recipes and cater to a variety of guests’ palates with simple, 86

honest Italian cuisine,” Chef Stefano says. “The Italian kitchen is made for so many people; vegetarian’s, meat lovers, those who love fresh pasta, rich desserts, coffee, and so, in some places it is trendy to change dishes and alter menus, but we want to showcase truly authentic, seasonal dishes,” he adds. Chef Stefano believes that people love Italian food so much as it evokes special memories and emotions. “Italian food is simple, flavourful and most dishes encompass a minimal three key ingredients so it is not complicated for a variety of different palates and people from all cultures enjoy it,” he explains. “True Italian food cooked with passion tastes homely and will often evoke emotions or special memories for guests, I’m often called to the table to hear that a dish has been particularly meaningful, these occasions are truly rewarding.” It’s now time to eat as that slice of pizza really whet our appetite. But, before we even get to the food we have to mention the staff and their service. They’re SO friendly and knowledgeable, most are Italian and there’s just a really genuine feeling that they want you to have a good time. They know the menu well and anticipate your needs, especially with keeping your glasses filled! The starters are great for sharing; standouts include the caprese salad; milky buffalo mozzarella, tasty tomato and a very nice balsamic vinegar. We also try the Burrata which is one of our favourite things to eat here and it’s consistently yummy, served with fresh tomato and crispy squid ink grissini. UN-BELIEVABLE!. For mains, the rack of lamb with rosemary and mint is utter perfection. The pasta is exquisite and all the portions are super generous. The incredible food and hospitality we enjoyed is all down to the enthusiasm and passion of Chef Stefano and his team. “The Villa Toscana and St. Regis Abu Dhabi are an extremely special place to work, more than a place to work, it is a home away from home where the team feel like family,” Chef Stefano shares. “There is so much enthusiasm and passion which will always be the most important things in life.” We 100 per cent agree! ✤ GO: Visit Villa Toscana at The St. Regis Abu Dhabi. FACT’s Angela Beitz visits Inakaya at Venetian Village to discover traditional Japanese cuisine in a lively setting.
W
e’re spoilt for choice in the capital when it comes to decent Japanese fare but when you want a blend of authenticity with an element of entertainment, there’s one place that aims to please. Enter Inakaya, located at the Venetian Village, this beautiful restaurant has waterfront views of the Grand Canal. When you walk into Inakaya, you’ll be welcomed cheerfully with a traditional Japanese greeting by the entire staff. This is such a nice change from other lackluster restaurant experiences and a lovely touch from Japanese culture. The space is large with indoor and outdoor seating but the real fun is to sit at the robata bar, which is Japanese for around a sunken hearth – this is where you’ll be able to catch all the action from the talented chefs. There’s also a yakikata (grill-master), who prepares dishes and then passes them to the guests using long 1.2 metre-long paddles – it’s definitely an interactive element that we love! The service is impeccable: measured and friendly. We are immediately brought drinks. We order miso soup and yellowtail carpaccio. For our mains, we order a selection of maki rolls including spicy tuna, wagyu beef with shrimp and spicy shrimp tempura. The wagyu beef and shrimp is an absolute knockout with delicious, tender slices of wagyu beef wrapped around juicy shrimp tempura, topped with cream cheese and spicy mayo. Perfection! The shrimp tempura is also great with spicy paste and pickle radish and the spicy tuna is a refreshing choice with fresh avocado. We’re certainly off to a good start. For mains we opt for the miso black cod fillet and the kobe beef skewers. Our waiter tells us that these are both very popular dishes – and we’re thankful for the recommendation. The

cod was delectable, glazed in a Japanese plum sauce with basil miso. We’d come back to Inakaya just to eat this. The kobe beef skewers also hit the spot with freshly grated wasabi and Inakaya’s original dipping sauce on the side. We let the waiter order dessert for us and we’re brought an impressive display of treats including berries, a rich chocolate fondant, pistachio ice-cream and vanilla cheesecake. All are amazing and the perfect end to our feast. If you’re a fan of Japanese food, Inakaya should be on your list of must visit restaurants. Service is excellent and it’s a refreshing change from your usual evening out. ✤

The brunch menu consists of traditional Lebanese fare along with Barouk favourites such as Moutabal Al Barouk, Barouk Mixed Grill and Kebbe Sajiye. There is also hummus, tabouleh, fatoush, vine leaves and lots of flat bread and pizzas. You can then head to the buffet and select lots of tasty mains such as lamb, beef, chicken and rice dishes, all of which are mouthwateringly tasty. And last but certainly not least, there are some super rich and tasty Lebanese desserts to try such as umm ali, kanafe and date cookies. What is it about Lebanese desserts that is just SO inviting? One is

just never enough to satisfy the taste buds. The best thing about this brunch is its unique set-up and Levant appeal. It has a lovely laid-back atmosphere and the food is spot on. Service is also very good and we really enjoyed the live music along with the options to relax with shisha afterwards. I
t’s not always easy to find a calm and quiet spa that also happens to be in an urban location but this is exactly what you’ll find on the 19th-floor sky spa at the Hyatt Capital Gate hotel. It’s a serene retreat overlooking the city, an elevated oasis complements the hotel’s other wellness amenities which include a fitness centre, spectacular suspended outdoor pool and a whirlpool. I fill out a consultation form and am asked to describe my skincare needs as I’m experiencing a new facial from Hungarian brand, Eminence Organics. I’m shown the changing rooms – they’re beautifully spacious and chic, and I slip into a soft robe and slippers, meeting my therapist who ushers me to the lovely treatment room. It’s large yet it feels warm and my gaze is instantly caught by the tiny lights in the roof which resemble stars – pretty. I’m firstly treated to a foot soak whilst the therapist asks what I’d like to get out of the massage that I’ve coveniently tagged on as treatment one before the facial (after all, I can’t come to a spa and not have a massage – that’s simply unacceptable!). Since I’m in need of some relaxation, the Rayana Swedish Massage sounds just like the remedy I need. This treatment is a combination of pressure point stimulation and deep tissue with Swedish massage strokes. I lay on the bed which feels like a giant fluffly cloud and I’m almost asleep within minutes of the treatment starting. The skilled therapist works hard on my knots, especially around the shoulder and back areas which are quite tense. The rest of the massage is done with deep pressure (just as I’d requested) and I feel totally calm and relaxed to the point where I don’t want to get up. It’s then time for the facial. dreamy Blueberry Soy Cleanser and toned with the Sweet Red Rose Tonique. Then the skin is gently buffed to reawaken dry, thirsty skin with the Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant. Delicious! My face is then covered with an Arctic Berry PRO enzyme Exfoliator and Peel. It feels a bit tingly but it’s perfect for a bright and radiant complexion. Then my hydration levels are tackled with two different masks; the Sour Cherry Mask and Strawberry Rhubarb Mask - such a decedent treat. My face is then massaged with Blueberry Soy Massage Soufflé and the treatment ends with Wild Plum Eye Cream, Strawberry Rhurbab Hyaluronic Serum and Sour Cherry Whip Moisturiser. This juicy express facial will soften and smooth your sweet cheeks for a refreshed, youthful glow. It’s one of the best facials I’ve tried in a long time and the products are just SO good! Afterwards, I retreat to the relaxation room for some delicious ginger tea. I leave feeling as if I’m floating on air and it’s exactly what I needed after a busy week of meetings and slouching over the computer screen.
