The Louvre Couture: Objets d'Art, Objets de Mode exhibition, running until July 21, is exhibiting three iconic Versace garments, each exemplifying the house's signature design codes that bridge classical art and contemporary fashion. The Metal Mesh Gown from Atelier Versace Fall and Winter 1997 features the house's revolutionary metal mesh fabric, inspired by Ancient Greek peplum dresses and adorned with topaz-coloured Swarovski crystals in Byzantine cross motifs. The Clashed Minidress from Fall and Winter 2002 embodies Versace's 'Rockoco' aesthetic, merging Rococo opulence with modern rock 'n' roll energy. Finally, the Barocco Trench Coat from Spring and Summer 2018 celebrates the iconic Barocco print with ornate blossoms, Acanthus leaves and regal crowns, reflecting the house's rebellious classicism. The Rasant, a new unisex sneaker from Stella McCartney and adidas, made its debut at the designer's Summer 2025 runway show. Chloé extends its Atelier des Fleurs experience into the realm of body care with the launch of Atelier des Mains, a new line of scented hand care products. This collection introduces a finely foaming soap and a rich hand cream, both infused with the delicate aromas of Chloé's signature blooms: Cedrus, Santalum and Magnolia Alba. True to the brand's eco-conscious ethos, it's vegan, free from artificial colours, and crafted with 95% to 96% natural-origin ingredients. The scented soap, embossed with the maison's emblem, lathers into an airy foam, leaving hands softly perfumed. Complementing the soap, the hand cream provides deep hydration with shea butter while absorbing quickly without residue. The collection marks the beginning of a broader range of body care rituals, with future releases set to include floral body lotions, solid perfumes and much more.

Sacred Rhythms of Ramadan

The watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils its latest collaboration under the Made of Makers programme (an initiative that combines horology and art) with Emirati designer Khalid Shafar. Known for his fusion of Emirati cultural heritage and contemporary design elements, he interpreted the maison’s celestial movements through Ramadan’s lunar cycle in the Crescent To Crescent art installation. Featuring 29 moons representing each day of the lunar cycle, the installation highlights the passage of time throughout the month. Subtle design details honour the maison’s craftsmanship, expressed through delicate engravings that mirror the guilloché decorative technique mastered in the Manufacture’s Métiers Rares atelier. The installation offers two viewing experiences – one side showcases a colour gradient, reflecting the moon’s daily evolution across the month of Ramadan, while the other immerses viewers in a dynamic play of light, illuminating each moon as they move through the space. This dual perspective invites viewers to engage with time in an immersive way.

SERPENTINE GAZE

BVLGARI’s celebrated Serpenti meets MB&F’s avant-garde horology in a one-of-a-kind collaboration.

Both BVLGARI and MB&F (Maximilian Büsser & Friends) are unique in their own ways but they have come together to create something truly different. BVLGARI brings its rich jewellery-making heritage, while MB&F takes a bold, futuristic approach, creating timepieces that resemble kinetic sculptures rather than traditional watches. This partnership has led to the concept of a timepiece that is as much an artistic statement as a feat of engineering.

This isn’t the first time the two brands have worked together. MB&F thrives on collaboration, bringing in independent watchmakers, artisans and designers to help realise its boundary-pushing concepts. The brand’s Horological Machines draw inspiration from themes as varied as science fiction, supercars and nature, making each creation distinct and imaginative. BVLGARI, with its rich history in jewellery and watchmaking, has a legacy of daring designs. The 2021 collaboration between the two resulted in the MB&F x BVLGARI LM FlyingT Allegra, a watch that combined mechanical ingenuity with BVLGARI’s signature gemstone aesthetic. After its success, they set out to develop something even more ambitious.

Enter the BVLGARI x MB&F Serpenti, a reimagining of one of BVLGARI’s most iconic designs. Since its debut in 1948, the Serpenti has symbolised transformation and elegance, but this version takes it to an entirely new level. Bringing the Serpenti into MB&F’s horological universe required not only a fresh approach to its aesthetics but also a complete rethinking of its mechanical structure.

The case, shaped like a snake’s head, is a sculptural masterpiece that took hundreds of sketches and numerous 3D-printed prototypes to perfect. Five sapphire crystals, including those forming the snake’s eyes, allow a glimpse into the intricate workings of the movement. Waterresistant up to 30 metres, the watch’s artistry does not compromise its technical robustness.

The movement itself is a marvel of precision and creativity. Instead of traditional hands, the watch displays time using two rotating domes – one for hours and one for minutes. The left dome completes a full rotation every 12 hours, while the right turns every 60 minutes. Crafted from ultra-light aluminium and treated with Super-Luminova, these domes glow in low light, evoking the hypnotic gaze of a snake. A 14mm flying balance wheel, prominently positioned at the top, beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour. The watch also boasts a 45-hour power reserve, with a discreet indicator on the case back, visible through the sapphire crystal.

Only 99 pieces will be produced, spread across three versions. The titanium edition features blue domes and a hand-stitched blue rubber strap. The 18-carat rose gold model has striking green domes with a matching rubber strap, while the black PVD-coated stainless steel version stands out with vivid red domes and a black rubber strap. Each case measures 39mm and is secured with a Velcro strap system for a comfortable fit.

Studies show that we’re shutting our eyes as needed far less than we did 50 years ago and it’s taking a toll on our physical and mental health. Whether it’s late-night scrolling, 24/7 hustle culture or the ever-growing demands of modern life, chronic sleep deprivation is on the rise. We have unknowingly pushed rest to the backseat, leaving many of us running on empty. But skimping on sleep isn’t just making us tired; it’s also making us look and feel worse. A lack of proper slumber is linked to premature ageing, weakened immunity and increased stress levels. So, if you want to reap its benefits, prioritising rest is key.

BENEFITS OF A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Brighter Skin and Fewer Wrinkles: While you snooze, your body repairs itself and produces more collagen, keeping your skin plump and youthful. Chronic sleep deprivation can accelerate ageing, making fine lines and wrinkles more prominent.

That’s because rest strengthens your immune system, helping your body fight off illnesses and infections. Long-term deprivation has even been linked to a higher risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Improved Mood and Mental Well-being: A well-rested mind is a happier mind. Sleep regulates serotonin and dopamine levels, making you feel more positive and less anxious. On the other hand, its deprivation can lead to irritability, mood swings and even symptoms of depression.

Better Weight Management: Studies have shown that lack of shut-eye disrupts hunger hormones, making you crave high-calorie foods and increasing your chances of overeating. If you’re struggling with weight management, maybe it’s time to check when you hit the hay.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR Zzzz

Buy Good Quality Bedding: Your mattress and pillows play a huge role in sleep quality. If your bed isn’t comfortable, falling and staying asleep can be a struggle. Choose supportive pillows, breathable bedding and a mattress best suited to your sleep position.

Keep the Bed for Sleeping Only: If you spend too much time in bed scrolling on your phone, working or watching TV, your brain stops associating it with sleep. Try to reserve your bed strictly for rest so that when you lie down, your body knows it’s time to sleep.

Get Out in 20 Minutes: Tossing and turning? If you can’t sleep in 20 minutes, don’t force yourself. Instead, get up and do something calming like reading or stretching, then return to bed when you feel sleepy. This also helps prevent your brain from linking your bed with wakefulness. Create a Sleep-Inducing Environment: Keep your bedroom dark, cool and quiet. Invest in blackout curtains or use an eye mask and avoid blue light exposure from screens at least an hour or two before bed.

Stick to a Sleep Schedule: Going to bed and waking up at the same time daily regulates your body’s internal clock, making it easier to fall and stay asleep. Even on weekends, try not to stray too far from your routine.

Limit Caffeine and Heavy Meals Before Bed: That late-night coffee or sugary treat might be keeping you awake longer than you realise. Try to avoid caffeine a couple of hours before bedtime, as its effects take time to wear off. Opt for calming herbal teas like chamomile, peppermint or valerian root instead. If you’re hungry before bed, go for a light snack with protein and healthy fats.

Try Aromatherapy: Essential oils like lavender, sandalwood and chamomile have been proven to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality. Using a diffuser or applying a drop of oil to your pillow can work wonders.

Exercise Regularly: Physical activity helps regulate sleep patterns, but working out too close to bedtime can leave you feeling wired. Try to finish intense workouts at least three hours before you plan to sleep.

Get Plenty of Sunlight: Natural light exposure, especially in the morning, helps regulate your circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep at night. Spend some time outdoors daily or sit by a window while having your morning coffee.

Fix a Nightly Ritual: Whether it’s a warm bath, reading a book, journalling or practising deep breathing, a relaxing bedtime routine signals your body that it’s time to wind down.

Located on the 11th floor of The Domain Hotel and Spa, the salon is a gem in the Diplomatic Area. Offering authentic Russian manicure/pedicure, eyelashes and eyebrow enhancements and hair solutions such as colouring and treatments, ARI Beauty knows precisely what it’s good at and shares that expertise with its customers.

Liliia, the salon owner, and Zulfiia, the General Manager, welcomed me to the space. With different areas for each type of service, the skilled staff was ready to start with my pedicure and manicure. I researched the Russian technique and knew a bit about what to expect. Despite sounding like a new and trendy TikTok fever, the method has been around for years and is believed to have originated in Russia in the 1990s. It is also known as a dry manicure or electric file manicure due to its nature of using an electric drill to file down the cuticles and shape the nails. I have already spoken to previous podiatrists who are against the usual soaking of hands and feet in water because unnecessary extra skin is removed. It was my first time experiencing this method, and I was looking forward to seeing the results.

The whole process is made of a set of steps. First, my nail technician asked me for the shape I wanted, and started by cleaning the nail bed with one type of drill bit. Then, the cuticles were removed with small scissors in a very precise way. She then used the drill again to remove any extra and unwanted skin. At this point, you can see how immaculate your fingertips look. After removing all the dust from the drilling, she applied the hard gel to shape the nails to the format I wanted, working carefully and attentively on each finger, which one by one would go under the UV light to cure the gel. The structure builder gel is a flexible product placed over the natural nails to create length and add strength and durability, a step that requires really skilled technicians. The nails looked picture-perfect, hiding all the natural imperfections. I wanted a French tip, so she kept the pinkish gel colour and only applied the white nail polish on the tips. To say that my nails have never looked this good is not enough. I never thought a manicure could transform my hands to the point that I could even think of hand modelling. They looked flawless and the results are durable and long-lasting. I probably won’t have to worry about my nails for two to three weeks and they will maintain the same shine. Even the cuticles will take longer to grow. It takes around two hours for the process, but you have to keep in mind that it is very detailed and pays off for the amount of time you won’t have to worry about your nails again.

I had the same technique on my toes for a perfect-looking pedicure. The difference is that an added tool is used to file the feet mechanically for a soft-feet result. After my nails and toenails had received a makeover, it was time to have my tresses cared for.

Morad, the hairstylist, checked my hair and recommended the Enercos Professional Smart System Bond Builder to repair, strengthen and leave hair healthier. My bleached mane was pleased to receive some nourishment. The treatment is composed of a mix of two products, No.1 Bond Booster and No.2 Bond Structure Filler applied to clean hair. The Bond Booster has multiactive ingredients with properties that give the hair anti-breakage benefits

After moving to a new country, I realised that beauty is not just about appearance; it's about confidence and empowerment. OHLALA – What made you open ARI Beauty?

Liliia – I opened ARI Beauty as a tribute to my journey and the women who inspire me every day. After five years in the industry, I wanted a space where everyone felt welcomed, valued and beautiful. ARI Beauty represents my vision of blending luxury with accessibility. It's more than just a salon; it's a sanctuary where clients can escape the chaos of life and embrace their true selves.

OHLALA – In your opinion, how important is it to enhance your natural beauty?

Liliia – Enhancing natural beauty is important because it allows individuals to feel more authentic and empowered. It's not about changing who you are; it's about highlighting your best features and embracing your uniqueness. Each person has their own beauty and sometimes, a little enhancement can boost self-esteem and bring out the radiance that lies within.

In need of some pre-Ramadan pampering, Bushra Hakim unwinds at The Diplomat Spa.

With Ramadan starting, I wanted to give my body a little care, and a spa day felt perfect, which led me to The Diplomat Spa at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa. Walking in, I was welcomed by Tamar Badzagua, the Spa and Recreation Manager, whose friendly and welcoming demeanour made me feel instantly at home. She gave me a tour of the property, which I hadn’t expected to be quite as spacious as it was. Behind its unassuming exterior, The Diplomat Spa unfolds into an expansive 1,100sq/m sanctuary, with long corridors leading to multiple treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, an indoor pool and a tranquil relaxation area complete with a gentle fountain that enhances the atmosphere of calm. Before my treatment, I was handed a form to fill out, noting my preferences and any areas that needed attention. Alongside this, I was served a refreshing welcome drink infused with slices of orange and an aroma face towel, with jasmine essence – small yet thoughtful touches that set the tone for the experience. With the formalities out of the way, I met my therapist for the day, the lovely Yeni, who took me through the Blu Fusion package – a signature treatment combining a full-body scrub, an authentic Balinese massage and an express facial.

Yeni led me upstairs to my room, aptly named Iris, after the flower. Each treatment room follows the same theme, with names inspired by flowers. After getting changed, I settled onto the bed, ready to begin my pampering session. The experience started with a full-body scrub using Frella’s Coffee & Chocolate Scrub. Frella is an award-winning Sri Lankan brand known for its handmade skincare products crafted by certified herbalists. The scrub smelled divine, its rich aroma of coffee and chocolate was a sensory delight. Having sensitive skin, I often find scrubs to be a bit abrasive, but this one was gentle yet nourishing. Yeni applied it in circular motions, starting from my feet and working her way upwards, effectively buffing away dead skin cells and revealing smoother, softer skin. The texture was slightly sticky, but she ensured that the process was serene and comfortable. Once the scrub had worked its magic, she wiped my feet with a warm towel before guiding me to the in-room shower, which was fitted with invigorating jets, making the cleansing process even more refreshing. With my skin feeling supple and refreshed, it was time for the highlight of the treatment – the Balinese massage. Having never experienced it before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I quickly realised this was something special. Yeni, a native of Bali, executed the therapy with incredible precision and care. She began with a dry massage, focusing on my feet and gradually working upwards, stretching my body and loosening any tension. This was followed by acupressure techniques, something new to me but incredibly effective in releasing built-up stress. Once my body was fully prepped, she applied Frella’s heavenly smelling Rose Geranium Oil, which is known for its stress and anxiety-reducing properties. The massage lasted a full hour and, by the end, I was in a state of utter relaxation, wondering why time had to fly so quickly.

To conclude the experience, I was treated to an express facial using Phytomer products, a French brand popularly used in skincare and known for its marine-inspired formulas. The process began with a gentle cleansing milk to remove any impurities, followed by a mild exfoliator to slough away dead skin and blackheads. A cooling toner was then applied to soothe the freshly exfoliated skin before a brightening mask was carefully spread across my face. As the mask set, Yeni treated me to a blissful head massage – a completely unexpected but highly appreciated addition. The pressure was perfect, and each movement seemed to dissolve any lingering stress. Once the mask was removed, she applied another round of toner, followed by a hydrating moisturiser, and finished off with a smoothing lip and eye cream. My skin felt fresh, plump and radiant – exactly what I needed. With everything complete, Yeni advised me to take my time before getting dressed and heading downstairs to the relaxation area. There, I was presented with a selection of teas, and I opted for chamomile to further prolong the serene state I was in. Sitting in the peaceful lounge, sipping on my tea and listening to the soothing trickle of the fountain, I felt a deep sense of tranquillity. The entire experience at The Diplomat Spa had been nothing short of exceptional, from the thoughtful amenities to the expertise of the therapists. It was the perfect way to reset both body and mind, and I left feeling completely rejuvenated, ready to take on the month ahead with a renewed sense of well-being.

OHLALA – Can you tell us more about the company’s concept and what exactly you offer?

Aida Al-Mudaifa – Early Riser is a family-owned Bahraini company renowned for crafting exceptional granolas and artisanal nut butters. Committed to excellence, every product we launch is meticulously made using the finest, sustainably sourced ingredients – packed with nutrients while delivering innovative and unforgettable flavours that redefine gourmet indulgence. Most of Early Riser’s products are gluten-free, refined sugar-free and infused with superfoods such as hemp, chia and flaxseeds. Our flavours are uniquely innovative, unlike anything else in the world. We have Karak Nut Butter, Ogaily Granola, Zaatar Granola and even a Banoffee Pie Nut Butter.

OHLALA– Why did you create Early Riser? What made you kick-start it?

Aida – I started Early Riser in October 2020, at the height of the pandemic. At that time, I began experimenting with different granola flavours – it had always been my go-to breakfast, paired with yoghurt and fruit. I soon realised that most options in the market contained harmful ingredients, so I started making my own and sharing them with family and friends. That’s when I pitched the idea of launching an Instagram page to my husband. Within just two weeks, with only BD400, we sourced ingredients, created branding, found packaging, finalised flavours and launched our Instagram page. The response was incredible – our first month’s sales came mainly from supportive friends and family, but within a few months, we started gaining traction from the public. People resonated with our clean-label products. Seeing this success, my brothers joined the business to launch an innovative nut butter line. It was an instant hit. Soon after, Midway supermarket approached us to stock our products in all its branches. That marked the beginning of Early Riser’s growth.

OHLALA– Do you believe your personal interest in healthy eating was key to your success? Do you think being passionate and believing in what you do is essential for a company to succeed?

Aida – Absolutely! My passion for healthy food and a holistic lifestyle has been, and continues to be, the driving force behind Early Riser. It all started because I wanted more nutritious options for myself, and then I wanted to share that with everyone else. Today, my passion fuels our commitment to quality and innovation. We don’t just create healthy food; we aim to inspire a positive and active lifestyle within our community. Our brand is about more than just products – it’s about changing habits and mindsets.

OHLALA – Have you already achieved what you wanted in terms of goals? Or is there much more to conquer?

When I decided to quit my job, I asked myself, ‘Will I regret doing this?’ My answer was clear: ‘No, but I will regret not trying’. That’s when I made the conscious decision to work with love instead of fear. What keeps me going is my family. I want to give my kids a good life. I’m also deeply motivated by my mission to provide healthier, locally-produced alternatives to what’s currently available in the market. Knowing that people genuinely enjoy our products and feel better because of them makes everything worth it!

OHLALA– Was there one special moment in these four years since you founded Early Riser that you would like to highlight?

Aida – Winning ‘Startup of the Year’ was definitely the biggest achievement to date. Securing Mumtalakat’s investment was surreal – I still pinch myself when I think about it. It was validation that all our hard work was paying off and that Early Riser was truly making an impact.

OHLALA – What do you like most about Bahrain? Is it a supportive country for small businesses?

Aida – Where do I start? I launched Early Riser with the goal of giving the best to my country, and Bahrain, in turn, has given me so much – both personally and professionally. Bahrain’s business ecosystem is incredibly supportive. The backing from institutions like the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Tamkeen, Mumtalakat and the Supreme Council for Women, to name a few, has been invaluable. It’s genuinely one of the best places to start and grow a business. But beyond that, what makes Bahrain special is its people. Bahrainis genuinely value local products and businesses, and their support has been overwhelming. We love how we created a community of loyal and supportive people who help spread our mission.

LUPINES IN ICELAND

Iceland might not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of vernal blooms, but its lupine fields tell a different story. From late May to early July, Iceland’s rough landscapes are softened by vast stretches of purple and blue lupines, creating an otherworldly scene. Reykjavík’s outskirts and the South Coast are prime spots for lupine viewing. The fields near Skógafoss waterfall and around Vík, with the contrast of purple blooms against black volcanic sand, look particularly striking. Interestingly, these lupines are not native to Iceland; they were introduced in the mid-20th century to combat soil erosion. Though they’ve stirred some ecological debate, there’s no denying the sheer beauty they add to the Icelandic springtime scenery.

ORANGE BLOSSOMS IN SPAIN

Spring in Seville is more than just a visual treat, it’s a sensory experience. From late March to early May, the city’s streets and courtyards are filled with the intoxicating scent of orange blossoms, known locally as azahar. Wander through the historic neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, where the delicate white flowers adorn the orange trees lining the streets. The Alcázar Gardens and Maria Luisa Park are particularly enchanting during bloom season, with pockets of tranquillity amidst the city. Beyond their beauty, orange blossoms hold cultural significance in Andalusia, often symbolising good fortune and love. Stop by a local market to find products made from the fragrant blooms, such as oils and perfumes; a perfect souvenir from this unforgettable escape.

With every dish made of the freshest ingredients, Osteria Papà delivered a true taste of Italy, leaving Bushra Hakim thoroughly impressed.

They say a restaurant is only as good as the passion behind it. At Osteria Papà, that passion arrives plated, garnished and served with a smile. The brainchild of the island’s cherished culinary duo, Chefs Steeven Gilles and Paul Gardin who have made sure this gem feels like home through and through. The charming sage-green exterior is impossible to miss and with ample private parking, the experience begins even before you step inside. The interiors are bright and pleasing, with a handmade pizza oven taking centre stage, surrounded by striking green tiles. The warm, Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic continues throughout, with white, curved walls and deep-set windows creating a soft, cosy glow. Natural touches like woven rattan lamps, dark earthenware bowls and wooden candle holders add character, and the lush greenery makes the space inviting. The rooftop dining area is perfect for Ramadan nights, while the garden, packed with tomato plants, basil, oregano and more, provides the freshest ingredients for every dish.

Chef Steeven welcomed us with a big smile and got us settled in before we embarked on the highlight of the visit – the food! Both chefs are incredibly hands-on, cultivating an atmosphere that feels less like dining out and more like being hosted by old friends. We kicked off with the Piatto della Squadra, and what a magnifico start it was. This vibrant starter platter featured freshly baked flatbread served with luscious truffle stracciatella and the true showstopper – halal cold cuts flown directly from Northern Italy. Yes, you read that right. Beef Milano, Beef Bresaola, Spicy Pancetta and Veal Ham, all sourced from Italy, made for a rare and delightful experience. The warm, pillowy bread paired with the creamy truffle stracciatella and the savoury melt-in-your-mouth cold cuts was nothing short of perfetto

Next up was the Tomato Burrata, a dish that celebrated simplicity and freshness. Garden-fresh tomatoes were grated and paired with creamy burrata from Apulia, then elevated with roasted garlic, shallots and basil. The light spice of the tomatoes contrasted beautifully with the burrata’s richness, creating a perfectly balanced appetiser. The Truffle Salad followed, offering an exciting medley of textures. Frisée provided crunch, while wild rocket added a peppery bite. A mascarpone dressing brought creaminess and puffed rice lent an unexpected yet delightful crispness. The sun-dried tomatoes delivered a tangy punch, tying everything together seamlessly, making it light and moreish. Rounding off the starters were the Sautéed Shrimps, served atop marinara sauce infused with hints of chilli and fried garlic – a dish that had umami, savoury and spice and managed to hit all the right notes.

With appetites whetted, it was time for the mains. The Ravioli al Limone was the first to arrive, featuring delicate parcels of house-made egg dough stuffed with artichoke and topped with pine nuts and parmesan, all bathed in a luscious lemon-infused sauce. Even a self-proclaimed veggie sceptic like me couldn’t resist. The Spaghetti al Pesto di Pistacchio followed, made with semolina dough this time and a unique pesto crafted from pistachios instead of pine nuts. Tossed with basil butter and parmesan, it was hearty, comforting and undeniably satisfying. Then came the pizzas – featherlight, fluffy creations made with dough that had been fermented for 72 hours. So light, in fact, that one could easily devour an entire pizza solo. Exercising restraint, I limited myself to a slice of each to avoid succumbing to a food coma.

The Spicy Nduja pizza was outstanding. The fiery beef nduja sausage, imported from Italy, is perfectly paired with San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, caramelised onions, mascarpone cream and parmesan. The combination of spices from the sausage and sweetness from the onions, along with the velvety cheese blend, was phenomenal and unlike anything I’d tasted before. The Escargot pizza was equally intriguing. It’s not something you often find on the island, but the chefs’ French heritage shone through with this clever addition. Mascarpone, caciocavallo and fior di latte formed the base, while garlic butter, roasted snails, lemon zest and pangrattato (crispy toasted breadcrumbs) elevated the dish to something truly special. The snails, mild in flavour, allowed the other ingredients to take centre stage, resulting in an unexpectedly delightful bite.

As the meal drew to a close, excitement for dessert took over. My absolute favourite – Osteria Papà Tiramisu – stole the show. Layers of Savoiardi biscuits soaked in espresso, velvety vanilla mascarpone and just the right touch of sweetness made every spoonful heavenly. I could have devoured the entire dish had it not been for the other tempting treats that followed. The Padrone Verde, a house-made pistachio gelato topped with caramelised pistachios and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, transported me straight to an Italian gelateria. The gelato’s smooth, creamy texture was pure perfection, while the olive oil added an unexpected yet decadent finish. Finally, the Boccone Dolce provided the perfect ending. A refreshing raspberry sorbet enveloped in silky mascarpone Chantilly cream, topped with mixed berries and delicate Italian meringues. It was both sweet and sour making it indulgent yet comforting, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. Osteria Papà isn’t just another restaurant, it’s an experience, one that lingers long after the last bite. With fresh ingredients flown in weekly from Italy, herbs grown right on the rooftop and beautiful hand-painted crockery, every little detail has been well thought out. Whether you’re planning a relaxed dinner with loved ones or a specially curated Ramadan menu under the stars, this restaurant is an ideal choice, especially for families. The best part? At OHLALA, we pride ourselves on sampling the very best life has to offer. After the successful launch of the new Continental GT Speed First Edition V8 Hybrid in the Kingdom, we gratefully accepted an invitation from Bentley Bahrain to take this work of art out for the day. We expected great things from this world-renowned brand's latest release, expectations that were soon exceeded.

EXCEPTIONAL EXTERIOR

The new Bentley Continental GT is a creation of sheer beauty. On first sight, we instantly recognised the love, investment and expertise poured into this car's creation.

In the GT Speed, the brand's creators have continued the key design aspects seen through Bentley's heritage since the iconic R-Type Continental of 1952. However, this fourth-generation Continental delivers an unmistakably bolder design DNA.

Overall, the immaculate exterior bestows the car with a demeanour best described as a resting beast – muscular but relaxed. Having appreciated several Bentleys in the past, we were surprised by this model's beautiful face that, for the first time since the 1950s, exhibits single headlamps.

These Matrix LED lamps contain 120 separate LEDS and feature new horizontal deep crystal cut diamond 'eyebrows,' along with illuminated

lower patterns. We also admired the curve of the vehicle's elongated bonnet, which creates a strong horizontal line through the car.

At the flanks of this two-door metal beauty, we noted its well-defined haunches and the 22-inch Ten Swept Spoke wheels, signifying its remarkable power. Many back-end elements have also been redesigned, including the bumper, taillights and exhaust tailpipes – all sporting a more contemporary flair. The boot lid now incorporates an integrated aerodynamic form, providing all necessary rear downforce without requiring a deployable rear spoiler.

SUPERIOR INTERIOR

As hard as it was to tear our eyes away from the outside, the inside of the GT made us feel as if we were entering another world. Slipping into the interior, we were greeted by peerless craftsmanship.

The redesigned cabin of the 2025 model now ensures complete comfort, luxury and practicality for all those lucky enough to experience one. This new grand tourer features sculptured quilting, fading perforations and a new quilt embroidery on the seats and doors. Combined with the new Dark Chrome Specification and the Diamond Brushed Aluminium Dark Tint, we endorse this interior as the height of automotive luxury. One of our favourite interior features was the wellness seating. Coupled with 20-way adjustable seats, the newly introduced optional wellness seating includes Postural Adjust and Auto Climate for the front seats. This ensures the reduction of fatigue and the optimisation of both comfort and support.

EXTRAORDINARY TECH & INFOTAINMENT

Soon, it was obvious that this masterwork is not just easy on the eye but contains an array of superior technological features most car owners could only dream of.

The benefits of the electrical architecture found in the latest generation Continental GT deliver a significant step forward in infotainment and driver assistance technology.

We simply adored the innovative Bentley Rotating Display. The threesided, 12.3-inch high-definition display is controlled via three elegant analogue dials and features an unbroken side of handcrafted veneer. These three sides are selectable at the mere touch of a button.

Later in the day, we noticed the environment display in the driver's instrument panel that supports and enables driving in semi-assisted mode, providing feedback to the driver on how the car responds to other vehicles.

The impressively improved air conditioning system notably increases cabin well-being. It now includes air ionisers, a new particulate matter filter and displays that show air quality inside and outside the vehicle. The system even synchronises with the car's satellite navigation to improve cabin air quality.

Our test drive model GT housed the optional Naim 2,200 Watt, 18-speaker audio system. Featuring Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats, this transcendent system, with its eight sound modes, ensured this was one of our most mind-blowing audio experiences.

BREATHTAKING POWER & PERFORMANCE

By the time we were ready for the roads, we were in love with the new Bentley GT. We were not, however, fully prepared for what was about to be unleashed.

The new GT Speed, with its 782PS Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, may be a beauty on the surface, but it is a beast underneath. Packing a 4.0-litre V8 engine that works harmoniously with a 190PS electric motor, this supercharged vehicle generates up to 1,000Nm of torque.

Informed of these statistics, we sat at the start line of our test site, staring straight ahead, a mixture of excitement and fear. Before the pedal even met the floor, we shot forward as if fired from a cannon. The sound of the engine reverberated in our ears and our bodies pressed hard against the supportive seating as we struggled to take a full breath.

The result: we flew from 0-100km/h in a touch over three seconds. It genuinely felt as if we had left our stomachs behind. Never have we felt more relieved to experience a high-performance braking system. This jet on wheels even delivers a top speed of 335km/h, making it the most powerful road-going Bentley ever produced.

The force created by this potent powertrain is dispensed via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electrical limited slip differential to all four wheels. We found this to ensure exceptional power delivery and more than reliable traction, even on sandy surfaces.
