CROONING FOR QATAR

Much loved, GRAMMY Award-winning singer Michael Bublé will make his Doha debut with concerts at Al Mayassa Theatre in May.

Visit Qatar is set to welcome the global music icon for the first time in Qatar, as he takes the stage for two live performances on May 23 and 24.

Known for his signature blend of pop and jazz, he will bring his unique live performances to a diverse audience in Doha at the 2,000-capacity venue, with general tickets going on sale on April 1.

Regarded as a pop icon, Michael Bublé is often credited with helping to renew public interest and appreciation for traditional pop standards and the Great American Songbook. He has sold over 75 million records worldwide and won numerous accolades, including five GRAMMY Awards and 15 Junos.

Born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, in 1975, his eponymous first album reached the top 10 in the UK and Canada in 2003. Worldwide fame came with the follow-up releases It’s Time (2005) and Call Me Irresponsible (2007), which hit the number one spot around the world from the US to Europe and Australia. With musical influences listed as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin and Sam Cooke, it’s no surprise that his performances feature a jazzy, traditional sound.

And the singer himself has claimed it was the influence of his Italian grandfather that set him on the musical path.

“He was the one who opened me up to a whole world of music that seemed to have been passed over by my generation,” he explained. “Although I like rock and roll and modern music, the first time my granddad played me the Mills Brothers, something magical happened. The lyrics were so romantic, so real, the way a song should be for me. It was like seeing my future flash before me. I wanted to be a singer and I knew that this was the music that I wanted to sing.”

And sing it he has. From multiple sold-out international tours to film and TV appearances and even at the closing ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada. So, with such a pedigree, Qatar audiences can be assured on a fabulous musical experience. Tickets will be available at virginmegastore.me and doha.platinumlist. net with prices still to be confirmed as we went to press. ✤

THE MASKED MAN COMETH

The newest ‘face’ of Gen Z Arab pop, TUL8TE, is heading to Qatar following the runaway global success of his breakthrough single Habeeby Leh.

Hailing from Egypt, TUL8TE is a masked artist, often pictured clutching a flower, who is known for his eclectic blend of pop and bossa nova with hints of psychedelic rock. His enigmatic presence and innovative sound have made him a standout in the music industry with Habeeby Leh having racked up an impressive 20 million-plus views on YouTube.

The song, a track on TUL8TE's second album, Cocktail Ghena'y, also has multi-million streams on regional platforms and has been used in thousands of videos on TikTok – all this achieved organically, with no major label support or marketing.

Since debuting in May 2023 with his first EP, MAGHOOL, the singer's global appeal has increased with each release. While his first album, TESH SHABAB, saw success in the Middle East, it was Cocktail Ghena'y that cemented him as the new face – or mask – of Gen Z Arab pop.

Speaking of that now famous mask, it seems to be a device aimed at showcasing the music with the singer telling grammy.com in an interview last October: “It doesn't matter who the performer is, what matters is how the listener interprets the music and lyricism. It has resonated

with people of all cultures, and that is what matters. Music is for the people."

Now signed to MDLBEAST Records, he’s currently in the middle of an international tour which kicked off in Cairo in December 2024 and will conclude in Los Angeles in April, via dates in key cities such as Riyadh, for Soundstorm, Dubai, for Sole DXB, Berlin and Paris – a testament to the global appeal of his silky vocals and quest for authenticity on every track.

Showcasing the album, fans can expect an eclectic blend of genres, from early Amr Diab – who TUL8TE calls ‘legendary’ and ‘a profound inspiration’ – to Spanish flamenco, trap and some R&B. There’s also talk of some exciting new music to listen out for in a performance that promises to have attendees on their feet all night long.

He'll be performing at Doha Golf Club on April 4. Early bird. tickets start at QR195 on doha.platinumlist.net ✤

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure through the universes of childhood where you can immerse yourself in a theatrical masterpiece that celebrates Disney's timeless magic and origins like never before.

A sensory feast where elaborate costumes, captivating projections, dazzling lights, vintage animations and rare sketches intertwine, at centrestage, the transformative ‘magic box’ transports the audience to iconic Disney landscapes and enchanting worlds.

Audiences can look forward to timeless hits such as A Whole New World (Aladdin), We Don’t Talk About Bruno

(Encanto), How Far I’ll Go (Moana), Circle of Life (The Lion King), Let It Go (Frozen) and This Wish (Wish).

Following its successful runs in Buenos Aires and South Africa, Disney The Magic Box is set to mesmerise audiences in Doha. The musical’s international creative team includes Thaddeus McWhinnie Phillips (co-book writer, director and set designer), Lynne Kurdziel Formato (choreographer), Isaac Saul (musical director, arranger and orchestrator), and Felipe Gamba Paredes (creative producer, co-book writer).

The show runs for 90 minutes and there is no interval. It is recommended for those aged six and above, the minimum age is three.

Performances take place at 5.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays; 3.30pm and 8pm on Fridays; 2pm and 5.30pm on Saturdays.

RIDING FOR GLORY

The 2025 MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar is coming and there’s thrilling on-track action in store.

Hot on the heels of Thailand, Argentina and the US, the 2025 MotoGP season continues with the highly anticipated Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar at Lusail International Circuit from April 11 to 13.

Now positioned as the fourth race of the season, with riders having it all to race for, this event stands out as the only one on the MotoGP calendar held under floodlights, offering fans a unique night racing experience.

With new colours, new bikes and new team lineups, it promises to be a thrilling spectacle in which reigning champion Jorge Martin – the Martinator – will be looking for a return to form in his first outing with Aprilia, having taken the championship with Prima Pranac Racing in 2024 – the first independent team rider to win the premier class title in the MotoGP era. However, an injury in preseason may see him playing catch up.

Snapping at his heels (or wheels) will be Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia lining up at Ducati Lenovo Team, with eight MotoGP titles between them. It’s Marc Marquez’s debut with Ducati, not having claimed a championship in six years, so he certainly has something to prove. But, insiders are saying there’s another team to watch and these colours will certainly be familiar. KTM – or to be more precise Red Bull KTM Factory Racing – has Pedro Acosta, who’s been promoted into the factory team (those with access to the top-of-the-range bikes) after a stellar rookie

season, alongside the experienced former champion Brad Binder. And the new-look Tech3 team, who ride secondlevel machines, comprises race winners Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales.

With so much talent on the circuit, this year’s season, promises to be an electrifying all-rounder. In Doha the thrilling Sprint Race Saturday will make a welcome return, ensuring an unforgettable weekend filled with high-speed action and entertainment for all.

Hero walks and fan zone activations will make it all the more exciting with details still to come of what’s in store. So, get ready for an exhilarating weekend filled with nonstop action as the world’s top riders take on the dazzling nighttime spectacle that Qatar is known for.

Championship Schedule:

● Friday, April 11: Free practice sessions

● Saturday, April 12: Qualifying for all teams and the Sprint Race

● Sunday, April 13: Race Day finale. ✤

RAMADAN KAREEM

The long-awaited Holy Month has arrived. A time of spirituality and self-discipline, of abstinence and great joy at evening gatherings of family and friends to break the fast. Whether you’re observant or not, Ramadan can certainly be a catalyst for change in all our lives.

To help you make the most of this special time, we’ve put together ideas for a Ramadan Planner with suggestions on activities to make the most of the opportunities the atmosphere of the Holy Month offers.

A time for those of the Muslim faith to practice self-discipline and concentrate on prayer, fasting from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Breaking the fast has become a much-loved tradition, whether it’s with simple water and dates or a much more substantial meal, Iftar during Ramadan is certainly an occasion and over the coming pages, we’ve gathered a comprehensive list of dining options for you to experience with family and friends. Elsewhere in the magazine, you’ll also find apps to help with everything Ramadan and special fashion collections to mark the period in style.

It simply remains for us to wish all our readers Ramadan Kareem.

Millennium Place Doha, Badr St., Rawdat Al Khail, Doha, Qatar

MAKING THE MOST OF RAMADAN

The Holy Month, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is here and, for Muslims, comes a time of daylight fasting, prayer and reflection, in atonement for previous transgressions. But, whether you’re observant or not, there’s no doubt that, in our part of the world, Ramadan is a special time. For expats and nonMuslims, it offers an opportunity to learn more about the ways of our hosts, consider getting involved in charity work or giving and a time for quiet contemplation and, perhaps, to join in the fasting, even if only for a limited period.

To help you make the most of the Holy Month, we’ve put together ideas for a Ramadan Planner – a series of important activities and tips – aimed at helping you stay on track during the coming weeks.

MAKING A RAMADAN PLANNER

Make yourself aware of the proper times for fasting. For Muslims, the necessity of this step is obvious. Non-Muslims should remember that there should be no eating, drinking or smoking in public during the fasting period and knowing sunrise and sunset

times will avoid causing offence.

Set goals and times to achieve them. Ask yourself what you would like to achieve during Ramadan. Do you want to learn more about Islam by attending lectures or classes or perhaps study Arabic? Set aside time in your planner for these activities and track your achievements.

Allocate times for prayer or just general quiet reflection. Knowing this time is set aside will enable you to better cope with the demands of Ramadan’s shorter working days and the, sometimes hectic, evening schedule of Iftars, Suhours and Ghabgas.

Consider your foods. Though it’s only human to be hungry after a day of abstinence, it’s important to be mindful of what you are actually eating during the evening hours. Make sure the foods you choose are nutrient-rich while not being too heavy on fats and sugars to avoid overburdening your digestive system when it’s time to sleep. Meal prepping at the beginning of each week can help, as can deciding in advance what you plan to eat if you’re heading out for Iftar.

Make time for physical activity. With many late nights, it’s easy to become lethargic and, likewise, for those who are fasting, energy levels may drop. Be aware in advance and set aside a time for physical activity, perhaps a couple of hours after the evening meal or, if you’re into serious fitness, early morning before Suhour. Changes in the body during the period of fasting are normal as you adjust to a new routine but by continuing with, or establishing, a light exercise regime, you will certainly adjust more quickly and feel better all round.

Adopt a charitable attitude. While being mindful of and helping others is important throughout the year, for Muslims, in Ramadan the emphasis on charitable acts during the Holy Month is very important and it’s something others often find attractive. If you decide this special month is your catalyst to do some good, there are plenty of ways to give back to society. From clearing your cupboards and passing on unwanted clothing and other goods to donating a Ramadan Box at your local supermarket or making a toy collection for underprivileged youngsters at your kids’ schools, there are multiple ways to take part. Qatar Charity (www.qcharity. org) is a great place to start. It is, of course, active throughout the year, but has recently launched its 2025 Ramadan campaign. Titled ‘Giving Lives On’ this year’s initiative aims to benefit 4.5 million people in need across 40 countries, including Qatar, with a special focus on Gaza where over 2 million people face a food crisis. The United Nations and international Red Crescent Society also run annual Ramadan initiatives and there are plenty of smaller local initiatives such as @feed.a.friend to get involved in. Once you’ve established what you want to include in your

Ramadan Planner, make sure to write it down. Having your aims and goals clearly visible in black and white makes you accountable and can be encouraging. It may also be a good idea to share your planner with family or close friends; you can coordinate activities, such as exercise or charitable giving, and it will keep you answerable to others as well as yourself. But, also, be prepared to adjust your schedule if necessary. As the old saying goes, life can get in the way of the best laid plans. Ramadan is also a time for self-forgiveness, so don’t beat yourself up if you don’t achieve everything on your list. Instead treat it as a great start for the year ahead and perhaps extend the planner beyond the Holy Month to make your life improvements permanent. ✤

WHEN SUNSET COMES

With the Holy Month upon us, many are observing the ancient ritual of fasting throughout the daylight hours and, as sunset arrives, it is time to break that fast. Whether it’s with a simple meal or a more elaborate gathering with family and friends to enjoy classic Ramadan foods, passed down through the generations, there is something to suit every desire. We’ve compiled a range of Iftar, Suhour and Ghabga options to help you make your choice.

ELEGANCE WITH A BOLD NEW FACE

FACT discovered the perfect level of luxury and refinement combined with advanced technology during a day in the new HONGQI HS3 deluxe mid-size SUV.

This month, thanks to the team at HONGQI Qatar, FACT got behind the wheel of the HONGQI HS3. Having recently experienced two of this Chinese luxury car marque’s saloons, the H9 and the Ousado, plus the outstanding HS5 Deluxe 4WD SUV, we had high expectations for the brand’s latest release.

Bold & Elegant Exterior

We were taken by surprise the first time we laid eyes on a HONGQI in 2022. We were not expecting the level of craftsmanship and sophistication we experienced. However, when approaching our fourth HONGQI test-drive model, we immediately appreciated the now familiar design concept of the HONGQI family DNA, along with the novel ‘Wings of HONGQI’ greeting lights, designed to create the effect of an eagle taking flight.

In the HS3, the brand has continued its winning formula of bold design concepts combined with elegant touches. From head-on, this striking SUV exudes athleticism and power while maintaining an air of refined grace.

As with all the other HONGQIs we’ve experienced, the HS3 showcases a sculpted bonnet complemented by the red HONGQI logo line at its front and centre that continues down the middle of the grille.

The upscale grille is eye-catching and exhibits a geometric design for optimal air intake. Enhancing the SUV’s aggressivelooking face are split-design headlights and well-positioned fog lamps.

Focussing on the flanks, we appreciated the aesthetically pleasing convex and concave surfaces that add to the aerodynamic nature of this sturdy SUV. Sleek yet pronounced wheel arches house stylish 19-inch wheels featuring a unique rim design, while power-folding and movable side mirrors with integrated turn signals further enhance the classy nature of the car.

At the back end, the well-designed tail lights frame a boxy yet modern-looking rear, with a single LED light running the full width of the vehicle, providing a touch of sporty appeal. The neatly designed rear bumper and exhaust system further add to the handsome hind quarters.

Timeless Interior

We discovered the luxurious nature of the new HS3’s exterior to flow effortlessly into the interior, where we were greeted by a high level of opulence.

Slipping into the uber comfy, ventilated and multi-adjustable front seating of HONGQI’s new SUV, we had the perfect position to take in the upmarket interior.

Along with the high-end materials used throughout the vehicle,

the HS3 features 253 ambient interior lighting options, allowing us to customise the mood of the internal environment. During the heat of the day, the dual-zone climate control and panoramic sunroof ensure plenty of cool air and natural light.

The centre console and gear controller deserve a special mention, thanks to their stylish look, expensive feel and convenient design. As the day progressed, the more we inspected the cabin, the more impressed we became with every little detail and finish. It is obvious HONGQI remains steadfast in its commitment to creating beautiful vehicles with first-class interiors.

Furthermore, the abundance of space on offer throughout the SUV meant plenty of head, shoulder and leg room in both the front and the back.

Advanced Infotainment & Tech

We discovered the infotainment system of the new HS3 to be both clean and minimalistic. The system comprises one 12.6-inch LCD screen and one 12.3-inch LCD instrument display.

Not only did we find the system beautifully integrated into the HS3’s cockpit, but intuitive and easy to navigate, providing us with simple access to the vehicle’s extensive range of functions.

A 10-speaker Bose Centrepoint surround sound system is a part of the setup, amongst several other entertainment amenities. Further fancy features of our test drive model included wireless phone charging, an air quality sensor, a head-up display and a multi-function steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth switch, MID select and voice command.

Power, Performance & Safety

Despite the impressive nature of all aspects of this luxury SUV’s exterior and interior designs, it was its on-road performance that secured our attention. Housing a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, Turbo Charged Direct Injection Engine, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the new HS3 is no slouch on the tarmac. Delivering 248hp and 380Nm of torque, this new HONGQI accelerates from 0-100km/h in a respectable 6.9 seconds. Every time we applied pressure to the right pedal, the car responded, adding plenty of enjoyment to the driving experience. Additionally, the four-wheel drive system, combined with the five selectable driving modes, ensures the best possible performance on any surface and in all conditions. We found the Sport Plus mode especially pleasing, adding extra verve to the SUV’s performance.

To ensure the well-being of all occupants, HONGQI has included an extensive range of safety and driver assistance features in the new HS3. These include Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, ISOFIX points in the rear and airbags located throughout the vehicle, to name but a few.

Our Verdict

HONGQI seems to be raising the bar further with every new premium car model it produces. If the brand continues along its current trajectory, it may soon gain the popularity of other, more established, elite brands. ✤

THIS ROCKS

The Roborock Saros Z70 is not your average robot vacuum cleaner. It’s the little bot that can!

We’ve all seen the videos of robot vacuum cleaners being stymied by objects in their paths – errant sock, small furry animal, whatever. In time, the tech evolved and these days our helpful, robotic chums have been taught to simply navigate their way around the obstacles.

But the Roborock Saros Z70 goes one better. Introduced at CES, it’s the first mass produced technology to feature a five-axis mechanical arm that will actually pick up and move items found in its way. It will even tidy objects away to their pre-programmed designated spots! And, using an app, there’s a huge range of programme options. You can forget about constant brush maintenance. With the

revolutionary anti-tangle system on the main brush and side brush, it expertly manages long hair and pet hair with ease. And this little miracle cleans under furniture and in hard-to-reach corners.

It even mops using 80º hot water to tackle stubborn, greasy stains and spills boasting a 99.9% bacteria removal rate with a dirty water bin in its dock to keep its mop heads clean.

And there’s a built-in intelligent voice assistant – just say ‘Hello Rocky’ for help! ✤

GLOBAL MINDSET, LOCAL DESTINATION

Stefano Capaccetti, Managing Director at Rixos Premium Qetaifan Island North, talks pre-opening challenges, building a destination and his passion for thrill seeking.

What first attracted you to the hospitality industry?

From a young age, I was captivated by the grandeur of hotels, their striking architecture and the seamless service that made each guest experience unique. During summer breaks, I would find myself fascinated by how everything worked together so effortlessly. When an opportunity arose to refine my language skills while working in hospitality, I took it without hesitation. I quickly realised that I found deep satisfaction in creating memorable experiences for guests, and that feeling stayed with me. That was when I knew this industry was my calling

With a career spanning more than quarter of a century, in recent years you’ve specialised in opening and preopening on multiple projects. What are some of the major behind-the-scenes challenges faced at this stage of a property’s development?

The biggest challenge is attracting global tourists to a completely new location. However, I strongly believe in Qatar’s offerings, and we’ve built a solid collaboration with industry leaders in hospitality and tourism to address this. By combining our expertise and resources, we’re working towards making Qetaifan Island North a must-visit destination.

At Rixos Qetaifan, you are responsible not just for the hotel but also Meryal Waterpark and Azure Beach Doha. How do you adapt to overseeing three very different businesses?

Rixos Premium Qetaifan Island North and Meryal Waterpark are redefining the concept of integrated entertainment and luxury. We’re seeing a shift towards experiential travel, where guests

want more than just a stay – they want adventure, exclusivity and world-class entertainment. Rixos is at the forefront of this, combining high-end hospitality with immersive entertainment. In the next few years, I see Doha and Qetaifan Island North emerging as a premier hub for global travellers looking for something unique.

After living and working in 11 different countries, you’ve said you aim to bring a global perspective to your leadership style. How would you define this?

Every role I’ve had has contributed to where I am today. Working in different markets and cultures has been a major advantage, particularly in understanding owner relations and effective negotiation strategies. Hospitality isn’t just about offering luxury; it’s about understanding people – whether they’re guests, employees or stakeholders. Living and working in 11 different countries has given me a global mind-set that helps me adapt to new challenges, handle complex situations and build strong relationships with teams from diverse backgrounds.

Your bio describes you as a ‘certified thrill-seeker’ – what do you get up to in your spare time and does your thrill-seeking extend to the rides at Meryal Waterpark?

My passion for adventure extends beyond hospitality. I’m a dedicated cyclist, a fitness enthusiast, and hence the ‘certified thrill-seeker’. One of my biggest passions is technical diving, which challenges me both physically and mentally. Exploring the underwater world is an experience like no other – it’s a completely different perspective on life, and it keeps me grounded. ✤

In Conversation with… Naike Lopez

The Hotel Manager of Le Méridien City Center Doha talks management philosophy and bucket-list ambitions.

What first drew you to the hospitality sector, how old were you when you first knew this was what you wanted to do?

What drew me to hospitality was my love for travel and fascination with different cultures. I realised at 16 that I could turn this passion into a career, so I studied tourism. Later, I earned a degree in hotel management, where I learned the importance of creating unforgettable experiences for guests. For me, hospitality is about connecting people from all walks of life and making them feel at home. Ever since, I’ve known this is my true calling.

Your career has progressed quickly and you have undertaken several key management roles. What is your management philosophy and leadership style that’s led to this success?

My management philosophy centres around collaboration, empowerment and continuous growth. I believe that a successful team is built on trust and open communication. I strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard, as I think diverse perspectives lead to the best solutions. My leadership style is participative; I encourage team members to

share their ideas and take ownership of their roles. By empowering them to make decisions, I foster a sense of accountability and motivation. I also prioritise mentorship and development, guiding my team members in their professional growth, which not only benefits them but strengthens the entire organisation.

This approach has led to my quick progression in management roles, as I’ve seen firsthand how a motivated and engaged team can drive success. I believe that when people feel supported and inspired, they are more likely to go above and beyond, which ultimately contributes to achieving our shared goals.

What are your plans for your role at Le Méridien City Center Doha? Any new developments you can share with our readers?

Moreover, I am committed to implementing strategies that will help us grow our room occupancy rates, ensuring that more guests can experience the unique charm and hospitality that Le Méridien offers.

I’m eager to collaborate with our talented team to bring these initiatives to life and create memorable experiences for our guests

You have been in Qatar for several years. What three experiences would you recommend visitors to try?

On my personal bucket list for the future, I have a few exciting goals. First and foremost, I’ve always wanted to travel to many cities around the world. I’m captivated by the diverse cultures, stunning landscapes and unique experiences each destination offers.

In addition to travel, I’m eager to enhance my skills by learning more Arabic. I believe that deepening my understanding of the language will not only enrich my personal experiences in the region but also strengthen my professional relationships and opportunities.

During the Holy Month, guests will enjoy a menu blending Arabic dishes with international favourites, showcasing the region's rich flavours and heritage. With a focus on tradition, hospitality and high-quality ingredients, Shahrazad Garden promises a memorable culinary journey.

We spoke with the chefs behind this year’s Iftar and Suhour menus to discuss their inspiration and what guests can expect.

Please introduce yourselves and tell us about your culinary experience:

Ali Al Sheikh – Oriental Chef

With more than 20 years in the culinary world, I’ve spent the last 15 of them at InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa. My Lebanese roots strongly influence my cooking, blending traditional flavours with local ingredients. Ramadan is a special time for me, as it allows me to create dishes that celebrate my heritage while offering a unique dining experience for our guests.

Ahmed Abdelrahman – Arabic Pastry Chef

With over 30 years of experience, 12 of those spent at InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa, my Lebanese background influences my cooking. I draw inspiration from international flavours and techniques, creating desserts that evoke a sense of home and warmth, while honouring Lebanese tradition.

Ali Chokor – Chef De Partie

Although I’ve been a chef for more than three years, I’ve been with InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa for four months. My Lebanese heritage shapes my dishes and I’m excited to contribute to Shahrazad Garden by showcasing traditional Lebanese flavours with a modern twist.

What inspired the dishes on this year’s Iftar and Suhour menus?

Our menu celebrates the culinary traditions of Lebanon, alongside dishes from Qatar and other Arabic countries. Known for intricate spices, fresh ingredients and balanced flavours,

these cuisines inspired us to highlight them in our offerings. We use time-honoured recipes passed down through generations, creating a wholesome yet exciting dining experience.

Each dish is close to our hearts, many coming from family recipes. They tell a story about our heritage and how food can bring people together, fostering a sense of community. We are privileged to share these flavours in a space that celebrates Arabic dining.

How do the flavours and ingredients of your Iftar menu reflect the essence of Ramadan?

Our Iftar menu features warm, comforting dishes designed to nourish and satisfy after a day of fasting. We use fresh, seasonal ingredients and aromatic spices to capture the spirit of Ramadan. Dishes like Dawood Basha, Machbous, Lamb Ouzi and Stuffed Vine Leaves with Lamb Chops, along with live stations like Shawarma, Shish Taouk, and Lamb Kofta, showcase authentic Arabic flavours. These dishes nourish both the body and soul, bringing families together around the table.

What’s your personal favourite dish on this Ramadan menu and why?

Ali Al Sheikh

My favourite is Kamouneih – a slow-cooked lamb stew with apricots and cinnamon. It’s a rich, comforting dish from our Lebanese mezze, combining tender lamb and spices to perfectly capture the essence of Lebanese cuisine.

Ahmed Abdelrahman

I love the Knefeh with Cheese and Ashta, a beloved Lebanese dessert. Alongside it, we serve a twist on the Egyptian Umm Ali, reimagined with Qatari dates and saffron, combining tradition with local flavours.

Ali Chokor

I enjoy Sfeiha Baalbakeih, a savoury dish with fresh ingredients and spices. Paired with Samaki Harrah Beyrouteih, this dish brings together the best of Arabic flavours, elevating the Iftar experience.

What is special about Shahrazad Garden, and what can guests expect?

Shahrazad Garden offers more than just dining – it’s a journey into Arabic tradition and hospitality. Guests will dine in a beautiful outdoor beach garden, where elegance meets tradition. The canopied tent, set along the peaceful shoreline, creates the perfect atmosphere.

Expect impeccable service, lush décor and a menu blending traditional Arabic specialities with local flavours. In addition to the lavish buffet, Shahrazad Garden will be brought to life with live entertainment, including oud players, tanoura dancers and live musicians, adding cultural richness to the celebration.

We look forward to welcoming you to Shahrazad Garden at InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa. From all of us, we wish you a blessed Ramadan Kareem. ✤

SKILLS, NECESSITIES AND HOME-INSPIRED COOKING

Luigi Goytizolo, Executive Chef at Hilton Doha The Pearl, tells us about his culinary education, bringing a little heat to the kitchen and his grandma’s special recipe.

You attended the prestigious French culinary school Le cordon Bleu Peru, what are the most important lessons you took from there.

Le Cordon Bleu taught me the foundation of culinary techniques, discipline and respect for ingredients. One of the biggest lessons was understanding that cooking is both an art and a science –every detail matters, from knife skills to sauce reductions, from cooking temperatures to textures. It is important to know and understand the hows and the whys when you are cooking. It also reinforced the importance of consistency and precision, which I carry into my kitchens today.

Please tell us briefly about the restaurants you oversee at Hilton Doha the Pearl.

I oversee a diverse range of dining concepts, each offering a unique experience.

Mulberry Tavern – A gastropub that blends elevated comfort food with a casual yet refined atmosphere. We focus on bold flavours and bringing old classics back to life.

The Kitchen – A modern world bistro that reimagines homestyle dishes with sophisticated techniques and high-quality ingredients. It’s about bringing nostalgia and innovation together on the plate.

La Pergola Lounge – Here we focus on fresh, light and flavourful dishes. Perfect for a relaxed outdoor dining experience.

Terrace by Lobby Café – A deli-fresco style restaurant with the focus on healthy, fresh and well-balanced dishes. It’s a perfect place to have breakfast, a salad, a bowl and open toast or a perfect burger in the afternoon.

Sol – our beach lounge (coming soon) - A laid-back chiringuitostyle concept with a strong Latin American influence. Here will be tacos, empanadas, ceviches, crudos, robatas etc. with local fresh fish and ingredients.

What three things do you always have in your kitchen?

Butter – The foundation of flavour, whether for sauces, pastries, emulsifying or just finishing a steak. It just makes everything better. Dry chillies – Once you remove the spicy factor, chillies become a key ingredient for adding depth of flavour, smokiness, sweetness and umami. Depending on the chilli you choose, the possibilities are endless. Chilli also adds personality to a dish and reflects my Peruvian roots.

Thermomix – This gadget blends, heats, scales! All in one! A must have tool for precision, whether making emulsions, sauces or smooth purees. It just makes your life easier.

And a bonus that I can’t leave out – A Knife! A knife is an extension of a chef – it’s part of our body. It is the most personal tool we have, and having the right one can completely change the way we work in the kitchen.

What is your signature dish at Hilton Doha The Pearl, how was it developed and what makes it popular?

Our signature dish is the grilled octopus with avocado risotto. The Kitchen is about bringing nostalgia to our guests or creating new memories for them, and this dish is deeply personal to me. It’s inspired by my grandmother, who used to make a grilled octopus served with white rice and avocado. I wanted to recreate the flavours of her dish, but with a modern twist. Instead of traditional rice, I developed an avocado risotto, incorporating charred avocados and my grandmother's secret that I can’t reveal.

The tenderness of the octopus is so soft you could eat it with a spoon. The smoky flavour of the grill is a key component, coupled with the depth of flavour from the chillies. As I said, once you remove the spiciness out of the chilli, it adds a whole new world of flavours and complexity. The creamy, luxurious texture of the avocado risotto, which perfectly complements the octopus. It's simply a winner and our guests love it. ✤

FROM MEZZE TO MUSIC: A VERITABLE FEAST

AMS discovered traditional Lebanese charm coupled with exciting flavours and a warm welcome on a visit to Tawlet Yvonne.

Tawlet Yvonne is situated conveniently on the ground floor of Millennium Place Doha, and, walking inside, it immediately felt like entering a warm and familiar space. It reminded me of walking into my grandmother’s kitchen – a warm, familiar embrace that instantly puts you at ease. The restaurant blends traditional Lebanese charm with contemporary elegance, creating an inviting atmosphere that pays homage to home cooking. Inside, cane-backed chairs and wooden tables complement a colour palette of earthy tones and soft lighting. Framed photographs and a striking mosaic-tiled oven serve as subtle nods to the culinary heritage celebrated here. The courtyard-style seating extends this warmth, with floral upholstery, wrought iron chairs and plenty of greenery, making it feel like a tranquil garden in the middle of the city.

Indoor Comfort or Open-Air Charm

The restaurant offers both indoor and ‘inside-outside’ seating, the latter being a semi-open space that bridged a relaxed café feel with a lively social hub. This area not only accommodated those looking for a more casual dining experience but also offered hookah, allowing guests to unwind fully. A giant screen in the background alternated between rolling images of Lebanon and, during sporting events, live broadcasts that brought the entire space to life with a communal energy.

The Chef’s Personal Touch

As we settled in, we were greeted by Chef Antonios Souss, whose presence added a personal touch to the experience. With genuine enthusiasm, he talked about each dish,

explaining its origins and how everything was prepared fresh in-house. He ensured that the menu stayed true to Lebanese traditions, catering to those who sought authenticity, while still being enjoyable for all. His attentiveness extended beyond just presenting the food – he checked if we needed anything else and made sure we felt at home.

A Mezze Feast

The meal began with a selection of cold mezze. The Dream Salad was a refreshing opener, bright with parsley, green onions, fresh oregano and walnuts, all brought together with a sharp yet balanced mix of pomegranate molasses, lemon and olive oil. The Hummus Mohamara, a unique twist on the classic, combined creamy chickpeas with the smoky sweetness of mohamara. Moutabel added another layer of richness, its grilled eggplant infused with tahini and pomegranate. The vine leaves, delicately stuffed, provided a comforting familiarity. Each dish was fresh, vibrant and clearly prepared with care.

Moving on to the hot mezze, the sausages with pomegranate molasses offered a satisfying contrast of savoury and tangy, while the sujuk with tomato, green bell peppers and onions packed a bold, spiced punch. The cheese rolls were crisp and indulgent, balancing out the intensity of the other dishes. The spicy potatoes, fried to golden perfection and coated with chili paste, garlic and coriander, delivered just the right level of heat. And finally, the fried kebbe, filled with minced lamb and onions, had a perfectly crunchy shell giving way to a tender, flavourful filling.

Music, Atmosphere and Hospitality

Beyond the food, the experience was enhanced by a live singer performing throughout lunch. Her setlist, featuring Tarab music, provided a contemporary backdrop that felt both relaxed and engaging. The seamless blend of music, atmosphere and

hospitality made the meal feel less like dining out and more like being part of a welcoming Lebanese gathering.

The Main Event

For the main course, the mixed grill platter arrived, featuring two kebabs, one taouk and a lamb skewer, all served with grilled vegetables. The meats were cooked to perfection – succulent, well-seasoned and infused with the unmistakable smokiness of the grill. Each bite reaffirmed the kitchen’s commitment to traditional preparation, letting the ingredients shine without unnecessary embellishments.

A Sweet Finale

We were completely full, but there’s always room for some dessert and it was a fitting finale. The baklava with mistika ice cream was both delicate and decadent, the nutty layers of pastry contrasting with the aromatic coolness of the ice cream. The second dessert, a layered creation of silky cocoa-infused custard with biscuit layers and a cloud of cotton candy, offered a playful mix of textures and flavours, melting effortlessly on the tongue. Tawlet Yvonne successfully bridges authenticity with accessibility. Although its menu is rooted in traditional Lebanese flavours, its expertly crafted dishes and welcoming ambience appeal to all types of diners. It is a place where tradition is honoured not just in the food, but in the warmth of its hospitality. Whether for a long, leisurely meal, a quick bite or an evening of hookah and music, it offers a space where guests can unwind and enjoy the true essence of Lebanese culture.✤

INDIAN WITH A SIDE OF INNOVATION

SD headed to Kumar The Traveler to experience some of India’s most special traits –strong flavours, aromatic spices and warm, comforting hospitality.

Located at Place Vendôme Mall in Lusail, this contemporary Indian restaurant is impressive from the moment we set foot inside. The dim lighting is inviting, with stylish décor, highlighted by black grills, sleek lines and sharp edges. As enticing as this indoor dining space is, the weather today is perfect for an al fresco evening, right by Place Vendôme's renowned Dancing Fountain, on Kumar's terrace area. Whether you're a seasoned tourist visiting or a longtime Doha resident, it would be a shame to miss this vibrant, musical spectacle as you relish every morsel of the delectable Indian fusion dishes.

Chef Kumar has travelled all over India in search of inspiration and the result is a diverse yet unique collection of traditional flavours with a modern flair. And the menu really demonstrates his talent and creativity.

Our host warmly welcomes us and immediately starts us off with some quintessential papadums and green chutney, the perfect mini appetiser to whet our appetites for the heavier starters. As we browse the appetiser menu, we're really spoilt for choice. There's plenty to pick from, and each dish seems to top the others. If you're looking to dine with family, you'll appreciate the kids’ menu with crispy chicken nuggets and fries.

We decide to kick off with a plate of Indian Rib Eye Cubes. The short rib is braised for eight hours and we can tell how well it's done with every strand of premium meat that falls apart. The starter menu is so diverse and, while we'd like to try everything, we have to carefully pick our favourites. The selection focusses on fusion dishes featuring flavours from multiple Indian regions. And, when you see a dish named Bangalore Biryani Balls, you know the chef isn't playing around. The arancini-style balls that arrive next sit on a bed of Makhani gravy, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It's great how versatile this dish is – just right for any savoury palate.

We also try another plate of small bites – the Buffalo Chicken Chapati Tacos. It's interesting to see how the traditional Indian chapati is turned into a semi-crispy taco shell, forming a creative vessel for the decadent buffalo chicken bites.

The Mumbai Puff is Kumar's take on a classic Indian street food. It's conveniently served as bite-sized pieces and we relish all three. What's special about Kumar's rendition is the addition of chicken tikka cubes to the yoghurt-tamarind-chickpea mixture. What a delight!

On to the mains and Kumar features a massive selection of gravies, biryanis and tandoor dishes.

The tandoori platter, an obvious choice, is anything but ordinary. A grand cage-like structure holds two types of tandoori chicken, suspended from metal skewers, with Kumar's Special Tandoori Prawns and Koobideh Kababs sitting at the bottom. The prawns have an extra touch of special ginger and garlic flavours, and we love this version of tandoori. A basket of cheese naan pairs wonderfully with the spicy meats. The dancing fountains put on a show as we enjoy our meal.

Classical music and a lit-up water show – there are very few experiences in Doha that top this. It's the perfect break between mains.

You can't dine at an Indian restaurant and skip out on a good, hearty bowl of curry. Our host recommends the best seller – the Royal Chicken Changezi, with a side of Laccha Paratha. Tender pieces of boneless chicken are simmered in a rich onion and cashew nut-based gravy – there's a hint of sweetness and a hint of spice. The curry is perfect to drown a piece of the crispiest, flakiest Indian bread.

While we love a good butter chicken, we're glad our server didn't recommend that and directed us towards something more unique and definitely worth returning for, though we’ll probably try the butter chicken on our next visit.

Chef Kumar knows the intricacies of Indian spices and flavours and every dish, no matter how transformative, still manages to retain the authenticity of its roots.

The grand finale is nothing short of a showstopper. Delicate rounds of the humble gulab jamun are piled up and presented in a unique serving – a base of kunafa, topped with three generously sized gulab jamuns, with a dollop of ice cream. It's sinful, sweet (as we'd expect of an Indian dessert) and a worthy finale to one of Doha's finest casual Indian dining experiences.

The service is top notch. All the servers greet us and always check on us. They're friendly and knowledgeable and tell us the story behind our dishes of choice. It's what we expect at an Indian restaurant, but here our expectations are surpassed.

The menu is extensive enough to make us want to return. We've saved our favourites for next time already – the Butter Chicken Soho Risotto, Lamb Keema Thali and Short Rib Biryani all await.

An unforgettable evening indeed. ✤

FLAMES, FLAVOURS AND FINESSE

AMS discovered street food with a touch of refinement on a visit to The Asian Kitchen.

There’s something mesmerising about watching chefs at work – the rhythm of their movements, the flare of flames, the precision of plating. At The Asian Kitchen, housed within the InterContinental

Doha The City, this spectacle is a central part of the experience. Here, the open kitchen isn’t just for show; it’s a window into the soul of the restaurant, where traditional street-style dishes meet refined culinary craftsmanship. I was transported right back to Asia!

Walking into The Asian Kitchen, we were greeted by a space that felt both vibrant and elegant. A long, open counter lined with intricate rattan details and a display of fresh ingredients set the tone for an immersive dining experience. The décor blended contemporary refinement with rustic Asian charm – lanterns casting a warm glow, intricate latticework on the windows and shelves adorned with spices, sauces and decorative ceramic bowls. It felt like stepping into a bustling Asian market, but with the comfort and sophistication of a high-end venue.

Meeting the Master

Once seated, we were drawn to the energy of the open kitchen, where chefs worked with meticulous skill, each dish coming together like a performance. It was here that we met Chef Robby Baskara, an Indonesian culinary expert whose passion for bold flavours and precise techniques was evident in every plate. We chatted about the concept of The Asian Kitchen – to recreate the vibrant atmosphere of Asian street food culture, where diners can freely interact with chefs. This approach aims to capture the

essence of bustling food markets, fostering an engaging and authentic dining experience.

And it’s fair to say, the crew has definitely created that lively, friendly vibe where cooking and conversation mix freely.

Setting the Stage

We began with a selection of starters that set the tone for what was to come. The Sriracha Chilli Prawns arrived first – crisp and golden, coated in a vibrant sauce with just the right amount of heat, balanced by the tropical tang of passion fruit salsa. A bamboo steamer held an assortment of dumplings, each parcel tender and bursting with flavour, paired with dipping sauces of soy, chilli and an intriguing pineapple chilli blend that added a sweet-spicy contrast. The fresh rice paper rolls were light and refreshing, packed with crunchy vegetables and fragrant herbs, served with a sweet chilli dip that tied everything together.

Bold, Aromatic Mains

Moving on to the mains, we were particularly intrigued by the green curry, a signature dish featuring tender cuts of French chicken, smoked at 78% to preserve its juiciness while infusing it with a subtle, woody aroma. The velvety sauce, rich with coconut milk, Thai basil and red chilli, delivered layers of warmth and depth. The Kung Pao chicken was a striking contrast – bold, fiery, and nutty, with cashews adding crunch to the succulent thigh meat. Meanwhile, the Nasi Goreng, served with a perfectly charred skewer of chicken, captured the essence of Indonesian comfort food with its smoky aroma and punchy seasoning.

A Sweet, Cooling Finale

For dessert, we opted for a classic Korean favourite – Bingsu. It was our first time trying this classic dish and it did not disappoint. So much so, I think it's my new favourite dessert. The finely shaved ice, light and airy like freshly fallen snow, was paired with mango and pineapple, creating a refreshing end to an indulgent feast.

More Than a Meal

Beyond the food, what made the experience truly stand out was the interaction with the chefs. Watching them work, engaging in conversation and learning about the thought process behind each dish brought an added level of appreciation. Chef Robby’s expertise shone through in his explanation of how the smoke process enhanced the chicken’s texture, a detail that showcased the restaurant’s commitment to technique and quality. The Asian Kitchen successfully bridges the gap between street food nostalgia and modern finesse. It’s a place where the theatre of cooking becomes part of the dining experience, where flavours are bold yet refined and where every dish tells a story. Whether you’re looking for the fiery kick of sriracha, the soothing embrace of a well-balanced curry or want to recreate that holiday feeling of being in Asia, this is a spot that delivers on all fronts. Oh, and you'll undoubtedly find yourself returning for more Bingsu. ✤

AMBIENCE, SERVICE AND FLAVOURS COMBINED

AMS discovered the perfect marriage of elements during a satisfying visit to B+F at Place Vendôme Mall.

Before we even took our seats, B+F had already won us over. The space exuded a snug, intimate atmosphere, softened by earthy tones and gentle lighting. A vaulted ceiling arched above us, wrapping the room in terracotta tones. At one end, a striking table, punctuated by towering cacti and soft globe lights, served as a visual anchor. The blend of organic textures and modern design created a space for both indulgence and comfort. As we settled into our seats, Marcelino, our server for the evening, greeted us with an easy charm. His recommendations guided us through the menu, which leaned towards bold, flavourpacked dishes. He offered us drinks from the extensive menu, highlighting the popular range of mocktails. Small details, like the rustic earthenware plates and textured glassware, added to the organic feel of the space, seamlessly blending with the warm, natural aesthetic.

Starters Set the Tone

Based on Marcelino’s advice, we decided to begin with the Black Pepper Tenderloin Lollipops, bite-sized indulgences of tender beef alongside crisp potato rounds, brought to life by a chimichurri aioli that added a tangy, herby punch. The Asado Fries arrived next – a riot of textures and flavours, with aged white cheddar melting into strips of juicy flank steak and a duo of spicy mayo and avocado crema lending heat and creaminess in equal measure. Looking for something lighter, we chose the Azteca Salad, a vibrant mix of crisp cabbage, charred corn and roasted red peppers, topped with delicate rice noodles. The textures played beautifully against one another, each bite offering a satisfying crunch. To round out the appetisers, we had the Shrimp Bao Tacos, where soft, pillowy bao held perfectly cooked shrimp, brightened by charred corn salsa and the zingy heat of aji verde.

A Moment Outside

Before the mains arrived, our two teenage girls stepped outside to capture the fountain and light show in the mall’s central courtyard. It was a spectacle – lights danced in sync with the water jets, changing colours in a mesmerising display. The rhythmic movement and reflections on the water added a sense of drama, making for the perfect interlude before returning to our table, ready to dive into the next course.

Satisfying Mains

First to the table was something indulgent for the adults: a 300g cut of grilled Australian Black Angus ribeye. Seared to perfection, its outer crust cracked slightly as we sliced through to the blushing pink centre. The charred scallion salsa added a smoky sweetness, while the marbling of the beef gave every bite a buttery, melt-in-the-mouth texture. We obviously couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try some of the famed Crispy Peri Peri Chicken. My word! It arrived golden and glistening, its skin crisped to a delicate crunch while the peri peri chilli oil had soaked into the tender meat, leaving behind a slow, lingering heat. Paired with a side of truffle mash, rich with the earthy aroma of truffle and velvety smooth, it was a perfect mix of heat and indulgence.

The Carolina Short Ribs were the kind of dish that makes you stop mid-conversation. Slow-cooked to the point where the meat barely held together, they were luxuriously tender, with a deep, smoky richness that melted into the mushroom-infused rice beneath. The Carolina gold sauce, tangy with a hint of mustard, balanced out the richness, cutting through each mouthful with just the right amount of sharpness. For something more classic, the B+F Signature Burger was a powerhouse of flavour. The aged beef patty, thick and juicy, was topped with a layer of caramelised onions that oozed sweetness, while a slice of aged cheddar added layers of umami. The whole burger arrived on a mini barbecue, with smoke wafting over the meat, infusing it with more flavour.

A Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Despite being more than full, we couldn’t resist the dessert menu. The Chocolate Dreams dish lived up to its name – a rich chocolate cake accompanied by a glossy chocolate sauce, with vanilla ice cream providing a cool counterbalance. The Burnt Chocolate Cheesecake, with its delicate crumble topping, was indulgent but not overly sweet, letting the deep cocoa notes shine. Finally, the Dulce S’mores Fondant was a nostalgic treat and a big hit with the kids. With a molten dulce de leche centre, a torched marshmallow topping and a Graham Cracker crumble, it offered a satisfying crunch in every bite.

B+F delivered on every front – ambience, service and bold, satisfying flavours. The warm, intimate setting made it feel like a retreat inside Place Vendôme, while the attentive team, led by

Marcelino, looked after our every need. As we finished our meal, Chef Shane came over to greet us, eager to hear our thoughts. His passion for food and genuine warmth were evident in the way he spoke about the dishes. Whether for a relaxed meal with family or an intimate dinner for two, this is a spot we’ll gladly return to.✤

FACT spent an unforgettable day and night at one of the most sought-after hotels in one of Europe’s most captivating cities.

Barcelona has long been regarded as a must-visit location in Spain. Thanks to this cosmopolitan city’s breathtaking architecture, vibrant atmosphere, scrumptious cuisine, unending shopping districts and splendid Mediterranean climate, we were spoilt for choice when visiting the luxurious Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona.

Beautiful Barcelona

As we were chauffeured through the old city’s maze of streets and squares, we were soon captivated by the vivacity of this avant-garde city. Along with the hustle and bustle of the busy roads, we took in the array of modernist and historic buildings standing together in effortless harmony. Museums, grand churches, charming cafés, little shops, fashionable boutiques, chic retailers, attractive flower stalls and restaurants of different designs were all a part of our journey. Barcelona is a beautiful and fascinating place! Also boasting an exceptional beach and a lively marina ensures it offers everything one may desire. By the time we pulled up to the magnificent Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, we already knew we would have to return to explore this enthralling metropolis further.

Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona

Located in the heart of the famous Passeig de Gracia, we can honestly say this five-star, contemporary hotel not only provides easy access to all the city offers but employs the most friendly and attentive staff you could hope for. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like gold, provided more assistance than we could have asked for, and experienced a hassle-free check in.

Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona contains 120 rooms and suites across eight floors, several dining venues, meeting facilities, beautiful gardens and an award-winning spa.

Escorted to my Deluxe Suite, the moment the door opened, the sight of the room was enough to make me smile broadly. With an array of even grander suites than my own available, it’s no surprise that the rich and famous frequent this luxurious location.

The Deluxe Suite

The first feature I noticed about my accommodation was its sheer size. It has to be one of the largest rooms I have had the pleasure of staying in over my years of travel.

Adding to the spacious nature of the room was a terrace overlooking the Mimosa Garden. This stunning feature ensured a superb view and allowed fresh air to flood the room.

Thanks to the ample natural light in the suite, I could fully appreciate the soothing colour palate, light wooden floors, custom-made woven rugs and high-quality furniture throughout.

The large bed was extremely comfortable, allowing for a peaceful night’s rest. A designated working area is situated in the bedroom, containing an impressive desk and chair combination.

Adjacent to the bedroom lies a separate living room with a dining table, comfy seating, a large screen television and other practical furnishings.

The spa-inspired, marble-clad bathroom included a large bath and a walk-in shower, along with tasteful décor.

Yet another welcoming touch was the arrangement left for me on the table. An assortment of nuts, dried fruits, fresh fruit juices, bottled waters, desserts and a large, fresh fruit platter, was a fantastic way to start my stay.

Furthermore, a 24-hour butler service is on offer for all suites ensuring your desires will be attended to immediately.

Fine Dining Moments

As evening arrived, we received an invitation to dine at the prestigious two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Moments. It didn’t take us long to figure out why it’s regarded as Mandarin Oriental’s premium dining location.

This award-winning venue is run by multi-Michelin Star winner Carme Ruscalleda and her son Raül Balam and boasts a menu second to none. The fresh and healthy cuisine, inspired by Catalan culinary culture, is creatively presented and tastes sublime. The beautiful décor helps to create a charming atmosphere that further adds to this already outstanding culinary experience.

The restaurant’s professional and knowledgeable team was not only on hand to serve but to educate us on our ‘Tasting Menu’ experience – a selection of 11 dishes, each more delicious than the last, if that’s actually possible.

From the exquisitely flavourful sea bream with fennel and caviar to deer loin with roasted truffled parsnip, an extensive and impressive cheese cart and delightful bitesized pastry desserts, every morsel was simply divine and

we were thoroughly spoilt.

Aside from Moments, the hotel also houses various other exceptional culinary locations.

Blanc

This all-day dining venue is a remarkable restaurant featuring striking décor and a superb menu. The à la carte breakfasts, with a vast spread of fresh fruits, organic yoghurts, bagels, fresh pastries, wide range of eggs and cereals, along with a selection of traditional Catalan breakfasts, are a favourite amongst patrons.

La Tavola

If you're in the mood for Italian food, look no further than La Tavola. Traditional recipes have been combined with fresh ingredients from the region, resulting in a collection of outstanding dishes. TIMELESS TIMEKEEPERS

FACT caught up with Lamia Rault, MD for Middle East, India, Africa and Tükiye at TAG Heuer, to learn about her fascination with luxury, the future of watchmaking and more. We also spotlight some of the brand’s newest releases.

You come from an extensive background in the luxury field. What fascinates you most about this industry?

What really fascinates me about the luxury industry is how it effortlessly blends tradition with innovation. There’s something remarkable about how brands, especially TAG Heuer, meticulously preserve their history while constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. The attention to detail – whether in craftsmanship, design or the story behind each product – is what sets it apart. Being involved in this process is both incredibly challenging and rewarding, and the passion that fuels this industry is something truly inspiring.

How do you see the future of watchmaking?

The future of watchmaking is all about harmonising tradition with technology. We’ll see more integration of smart features into luxury designs while maintaining the craftsmanship of mechanical timepieces. Innovation in materials, design and performance will keep pushing the boundaries, and demand for personalised, unique pieces (and experiences) will continue to grow, ensuring that watchmaking remains a symbol of precision, innovation and, to some extent, exclusivity.

Who is the TAG Heuer customer?

In my opinion, the TAG Heuer customer is someone who thrives on precision, performance and pushing

boundaries. Whether they’re motorsport enthusiasts, adventurers or lovers of bold design, they appreciate a timepiece that’s more than just a watch – it’s a statement. They want something that blends heritage with innovation, craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology and, most importantly, a watch that keeps up with their dynamic lifestyle.

In three words, how do you describe TAG Heuer's style? Avant-Garde, dynamic, bold and, if I could add a fourth, it would be timeless.

Which is your current favourite TAG Heuer watch?

The TAG Heuer Carrera Gold Success Glassbox is up there as one of my favourites – it’s more than just a watch; it’s a symbol of ambition, achievement and a lucky charm; qualities that have been deeply ingrained in the maison’s DNA since the days of our founder, Jack Heuer.

He had a profound appreciation for the power of gold as a symbol of success. In the 1970s, he famously gifted gold Carrera watches to racing legends – an exclusive token of recognition for those who embodied excellence and determination.

Today, it carries forward that legacy, in my opinion, as a watch that stands for more than time – representing perseverance and the spirit of those who dare to push limits.

F1 Adrenaline Returns

Blending craftsmanship with racinginspired design, TAG Heuer has launched five bold new timepieces celebrating the brand’s deep-rooted connection to motorsport.

Drawing from the high-energy world of F1, this new lineup introduces sharp and dynamic elements while staying true to its racing roots and TAG Heuer Formula 1 heritage. The new case reflects the aerodynamic lines of F1 cars. The bezel, with its micro-perforations, subtly references the brake discs on the planet’s fastest machines.

Ergonomics played a crucial role in the development of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph with the brand optimising the lug-to-lug distance for improved comfort while also refining the case profile to create a sleek and streamlined look. The use of lightweight titanium for the case combined with a dynamic rubber strap, ensures these timepieces are both sturdy and comfortable, ideal for racing fans and city dwellers alike. The new watches make a powerful statement with their bold contrasts and vibrant colours, drawing inspiration from the energy of night racing. The concept of Grand Prix by night shapes the design, blending dark tones with vivid bursts of colour. Alongside the core collection comes a special edition created in collaboration with Oracle Red Bull Racing.

The Glassbox Goes Precious

The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph introduces a striking new design to the collection.

In 2023, the Carrera celebrated its 60th anniversary with the re-introduction of the iconic glassbox design – an homage to Jack Heuer’s innovative use of a flange to display crucial information. The curved sapphire crystal not only enhances visibility but also preserves the essence of the original Carrera.

The new chronograph has debuted in two stunning variations. One in the TAG Heuer Carrera’s signature blue and the other in a delicate powdery pink.

The circular-brushed finish of the dial adds depth and texture. The dial is structured around a bi-compax layout and the rhodium-plated hands offer impeccable clarity and precision in timekeeping, while a discreet date window at six o’clock ensures all essential information is readily accessible.

The flange is adorned with 72 diamonds totalling 0.45 carats and 11 chaton diamond indexes curve along the inner flange.

The signature blue model is paired with a dark blue alligator leather strap, while the powdery pink version comes with a matching calfskin leather strap.

At the heart of these new timepieces lies the in-house TH20-00 chronograph caliber boasting an 80hour power reserve and a five-year extended warranty.

An Homage To Heritage

TAG Heuer and Porsche celebrate their shared motorsport legacy with a limited-edition timepiece inspired by the first rally success of the Porsche 911 at the Monte Carlo Rally.

The fifth year of their partnership introduces the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche Rallye, combining Porsche’s indomitable 911 with TAG Heuer’s renowned expertise in precision chronographs.

The timepiece comes in two variations: one in steel, and one in 18-carat 3N solid yellow gold. The steel version is limited to 911 pieces, while just 11 of the gold watches are available.

This creation taps into the rich history shared by Porsche and TAG Heuer, harking back to a pivotal chapter: the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally, where Porsche’s newly introduced 911 (racing number 147) made its competitive debut with the TAG Heuer Rally Master on board.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche Rallye watch carries forward this pioneering spirit while introducing modern advancements. Powered by the in-house TH20-08 Chronosprint movement, it offers an 80-hour power reserve and the design of the watch is equally captivating, drawing inspiration from the Heuer dashboard timer present in the Porsche 911 ‘147’ at the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally.

BIG SCREEN

High Potential Zero Day

Need to Know:

A compelling American adaptation of the acclaimed French/ Belgian series HPI, High Potential offers a sophisticated, albeit uneven, exploration of ambition and its human cost within the rarefied world of high-powered executives. Expect sharp writing and compelling performances.

Director: Drew Goddard

Cast: Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Judy Reyes, Deniz Akdeniz and Javicia Leslie

Why Is It Worth Watching?

High Potential masterfully captures the internal struggles of those striving for the pinnacle of success. The series shines in its nuanced portrayal of the relentless pressure, personal sacrifices and hidden insecurities that lie beneath the polished veneer of corporate life. Each character is richly drawn, adding depth and complexity to the narrative. While the pacing occasionally falters, the overall impact remains significant. The depiction of the corporate landscape, while insightful, could benefit from a more refined approach. Certain plotlines, particularly those involving romantic entanglements, occasionally feel somewhat predictable.

Despite these minor shortcomings, High Potential offers a rewarding viewing experience. Its unflinching examination of ambition and its consequences resonates powerfully, prompting reflection on the true meaning of success and the importance of maintaining a balanced life. The series is elevated by strong performances and a sophisticated exploration of the human condition within a high-stakes professional environment. With the entire first season now available for binge-watching following the finale on February 11, you can immerse yourself completely before season two arrives this autumn.

High Potential offers a rewarding viewing experience. Its unflinching examination of ambition and its consequences resonates powerfully…

Need to Know:

A trustworthy former US president is called in to lead an investigation into a devastating cyberattack.

Director: Lesli Glatter

Cast: Robert De Niro, Mathew Modine, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III and Angela Basset.

Why Is It Worth Watching?

The six-episode limited series, released on Netflix, received mixed to average reviews. But like everything else, such as music and food, it is a matter of taste. So, if you’re a fan of Robert De Niro and American politics and enjoy conspiracy thrillers, then Zero Day ticks all three boxes.

A fan of De Niro myself, since watching him first in The Deer Hunter (1978), I was happy to see his first TV series, in which he plays the role of George Mullen; a previous US president struggling to keep a mental balance, while haunted with a past personal tragedy and a current national crisis.

It may appear to be a subtle coincidence that while the White House was going through the transition of power (Biden/Trump) against widespread criticism (among other issues) of ‘tech oligarchy’ as well as De Niro’s personal outspoken criticism of Trump, comes this solid masterclass performance of gravitas and statesmanship, by De Niro.

On the whole, a gripping plot with one or two distractions, perhaps to keep viewers intrigued, as the story unfolds to its climactic ending, with a hopeful message suggesting that truth can save a vulnerable and broken nation.

ON THE RECORD

INDIE/POP-ROCK

Open Wide By Inhaler POP

So Close To What

LITERARY FICTION / MYSTERY / THRILLER Wild Dark Shore

Written in Dublin in between long stretches of touring, Open Wide is a bold, 13-track stepping stone out of Irish band Inhaler’s comfort zone. This unique album, recorded with producer Kid, draws inspiration from early ‘70s rock and 2000s' alternative elements. The album opens with guitar heavy anthem, Eddie In The Darkness , which was played prior to its official 2025 release on the band’s North American tour in 2024. The following track, Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah) , was released two days before the album. The build-up to the chorus, coupled with the steady thrum of the beat, makes it one of the catchiest songs on the album.

Lead single Your House , second single Open Wide and fan favourite A Question of You all include the House Gospel Choir, bringing a new sonic depth to the album, truly emphasising the ‘70s rock elements in each track.

The tone of the album changes in The Charms and all the way through the final four tracks to Little Things, feeling heavier as the thematic yearning turns more desperate than in previous ones. The last track ends much like the first begins: with a guitar-heavy instrumental that stays true to the core essence of Open Wide

So Close To What is Canadian singer Tate McRae’s third studio album, which the singer first teased in the lead single It’s ok I’m ok music video. The album includes three pre-released tracks: 2 hands, It’s ok I’m ok and Sports car. Each track achieved major success, making use of sassy lyrics, breathy backing vocals and suspenseful build-ups to catchy choruses.

The album opens with Miss possessive, a jealous girlfriend anthem over a mischievous and fast paced beat. The third track, bloodonmyhands, features Flo Milli, adding a perfectly timed rap break that elevates the feel of the track. Dear god was teased briefly on Tate’s TikTok and the repetitive earworm did not disappoint, maintaining the cheeky nature of the album. Fan favourite I know love features The Kid Laroi and adopts a calmer tone that ties in the last three tracks of the album. Nostalgia, which was inspired by a conversation with the singer’s father, closes the album on a sombre note, as Tate reflects on how overthinking can lead to lost experiences.

So Close To What juggles varying themes of emotional intensity, from love to jealousy and even nostalgia, making for an exciting listen after the highly anticipated release.

The Salts, dad Dominic and his three kids, are the only inhabitants left on Shearwater, a remote island on the edge of Antarctica. With rising sea levels, all the researchers have gone and the family, guardians of the world’s largest seedbank, are in the process of packing up the seeds for transport to safer ground as ferocious weather rolls in. During a major storm, a woman, Rowan, is washed up on the shore and, as the fragmented family works to nurse her back to health, the Salts find themselves coming back together. But both Rowan and Dominic are hiding secrets.

MYSTERY / FICTION / SUSPENSE I Would Die For You

In 2011 California, Nicole Forbes lives quietly with her husband and daughter until the day a journalist knocks on her door asking about her recollections of the breakup of one of the biggest UK bands of the 1980s, Secret Oktober. That same day, Nicole’s daughter goes missing, supposedly picked up from school by a non-existent aunt.

Convinced the two events are linked, Nicole must delve into the past and her connection to Secret Oktober’s lead singer, Ben Edwards, to protect her present and the future of those she holds dear.

What We’re (Still) Talking About

Foot Art?

Love them or hate them, Birkenstocks have become a staple of summer footwear and the shoes, which some (including some in our office) would describe as ‘super ugly’, can be seen everywhere in their many guises. But, like every success story, they have plenty of imitators. This has led to German headquartered Birkenstock, which has been making shoes since 1774, heading to the country’s Federal Court to sue three companies making very similarlooking footwear with the argument that

Birkenstocks are ‘copyright protected and works of applied art’.

AP reports that under German law, works of art enjoy stronger and longer-lasting intellectual property protections than consumer products and Birkenstock wanted an injunction to stop its competitors making copycat sandals and to order the recall and destruction of those already on the market.

Two lower courts couldn’t agree, so the highest civil court in the land was required to decide if Birkenstocks are indeed works of art. The answer? Nope, they’re simply comfy footwear! Can’t say it comes as any great surprise.

Jonah Complex

The Bible story of Jonah and the Whale came to life recently when a humpback whale swallowed a kayaker in the waters of Chilean Patagonia. Honestly, it’s rare we thank our lucky stars for the ever-ready camera phones so prevalent in society, but if it hadn’t been captured on film, we wouldn’t have believed it.

Adrián Simancas was kayaking with his father, Dell, in Bahía El Águila near the San Isidro Lighthouse in the Strait of Magellan when a humpback whale

surfaced, engulfing Adrián and his yellow kayak for a few seconds before letting him go.

Dell, who must have nerves of steel, remained untouched just metres away and kept filming while urging his son to stay calm – can’t imagine that did much good!

Fortunately, within seconds the giant mammal spat Adrián, who believed he’d been swallowed, right back out into the frigid waters.

Perhaps the whale realised he’d bitten off more than he could chew or maybe the Chilean was a little too spicy for him.

Just Rewards

America’s Walmart might not be one of our favourite stores at the moment but we’re loving this story.

It seems Judge Jeffrey Clothier in Michigan, USA, got so fed up with the number of shoplifters on his docket that he adopted a novel approach to sentencing. Rather than heading to the slammer, he’s ordered them to turn out in the Walmart car park and wash customer vehicles for free.

The Judge, who only recently began ordering the ‘Walmart Washes’, told AP: “I

don’t think everybody that steals is a bad person. Sometimes people are just down on their luck. But there’s going to be consequences when you break the law.” Walmart will provide water and supplies and the car washes will take place at the store in Grand Blanc Township during March and April, with up to 100 offenders expected to be getting their hands soapy.

Judge Clothier said he thinks people will find the punishment embarrassing and will hopefully think twice about stealing in the future. He’ll also be attending the event with his own bucket and sponge. Sounds like a great plan to us.
