ne of my favourite things to do on the weekend (besides Netflix and Deliveroo) is check into a beautiful spa, phone locked away, and spending the day in and out of steam rooms and saunas, lounging in the relaxation rooms and, of course, experiencing the best treatments – from facials, to scrubs, massages and more, if it means I can have a little nap, I’m there. So it gives me immense pleasure to say that here at FACT, we’ve decided to put our many years worth of pampering knowledge together in order to celebrate and recognise the best in Abu Dhabi’s wellness game. NEORUN, THE MIDDLE EAST’S leading ‘UV Night Time Fun Run’ is set to return in 2018 for the ultimate Halloween special and, for the first time ever, will be hosted at Yas Marina Circuit on November 2. BBQ LIFE Renowned for their slow-smoked, melt-in-your-mouth meats and home-style, wholesome Texan food, the first Dickey’s Texas Barbecue restaurant is set to open in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi. IDENTIFYING A GAP IN THE UAE market, for American Barbecue, F&B industry heavy weight, Youssef El Habbal, CEO of Serenity Hospitality, explains that this is the type of food that the UAE customer has been looking for. “Our menu, based on the tried and true recipes of a 77 year old Texan heritage brand, that has nearly 600 stores across the US, has been slightly tailored for our market,” Youssef says. “We are proud to introduce slow smoked beef brisket, beef ribs, beef sausages, smoked turkey and chicken with an extensive range of home style sides from barbecue beans and mac and cheese to creamy spinach and waffle fries. It’s all the food you want from America, but easily accessible right here at home.” Recognising that barbecue has various meanings in different cultures. American Barbecue focuses on slow cooking meat in specially designed smokers using special hickory wood, which allows the meat to slowly tenderise and capture the delicious smoky flavour. Roland Dickey Jr, CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, explains that the meat smoking process for the barbecue is something his family perfected many decades ago. “Our family still proudly continues to serve up the same quality barbecue recipes handed down for generations coupled with the same brand of southern hospitality.” 10

Elevating the much loved US Dickey’s experience, the Yas Mall restaurant is home to rustic interiors and country vibes, which transport your senses to old town Texas. The industrial design features warm wood, leather and gunmetal accents providing a hint of edge, alongside informative artwork for families to enjoy. Roland explains that the expansion into the UAE is an exciting time for the family brand. “There is such a strong synergy between the USA and UAE in terms of our love of good food, strong sense of community and appreciation of a good dining experience. The Serenity Hospitality team have ensured that the Dickey’s spirit has travelled across the ocean,” explains Roland. The restaurants open kitchen provides a full view of the Pit Masters in slow- cooking action, experts in ensuring an authentic Texan taste sensation with every bite. Families can regularly feast together in the laid-back space, taking advantage of the speedy service and a broad range of wholesome Texan favourites. ✤

As the weather cools down, Yas Movies in the Park returns this October to du Arena, Yas Island for an immersive cinema experience with the musical movie Mamma Mia, and a blockbuster lineup of free films to be enjoyed. Louvre Abu Dhabi’s latest exhibition of 12 artists including renowned French group, the Nabis, and five Japanese Ukiyo-e masters from the 19th and 20th century, is now open to the public.

n collaboration with Musée d’Orsay, the exhibition Japanese Connections: The Birth of Modern Décor showcases 50 paintings, prints and folding screens that explore the artistic and cultural dialogue between Japan and France. Curated by Isabelle Cahn, General Curator of Paintings at Musée d’Orsay, the works of the 12 French and Japanese artists making up the exhibition have been assembled from the collections of Louvre Abu Dhabi, Musée d’Orsay, Musée national des Arts asiatiques Guimet and Musée des Arts Décoratifs (MAD). Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: “It is with pleasure that we kick off our new season at Louvre Abu Dhabi with Japanese Connections: The Birth of Modern Décor. Following our inaugural exhibition From One Louvre to Another, which detailed the birth of the Musée du Louvre, and Globes: Visions of the World, which explored the history of the spherical representation of the world, we now explore the links between Japan and France that inspired a new artistic movement within European decorative arts. With our international exhibitions, we aim to bring the world to our visitors, highlighting connections between cultures and societies that have shaped who we are today.” Artists represented include French artists Paul Sérusier, Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Ker-Xavier Roussel, and Édouard Vuillard, who made up the renowned Nabis group of artists; Marguerite Sérusier and Odilon Redon; and five Japanese Ukiyo-e masters: Katsushika Hokusai, Hara Zaimei, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kano Tanshin and Toshusai Sharaku. The exhibition is divided into four sections that illustrate the influence of central Ukiyo-e aesthetic principles, including representing the world in two-dimensions without using illusions of perspective; narrative compositions that show the passing of time; innovative use of folding panels for storytelling; and symbolic refinement exploring intellectual, dreamlike and spiritual ideas. Isabelle Cahn, General Curator of Paintings at Paris’s Musée d’Orsay and Curator of the exhibition, said: “For the first time, the exhibition Japanese Connections traces the fundamental contribution of Japanese aesthetics to the development of decorative principles of modern painting in France at the end of the 19th century.

“This dialogue between East and West celebrates creativity and cross-cultural inspiration between the Ukiyo-e artists and the Nabis painters through a coloured, vibrant and refined expression,” she added. “We are very pleased to gather this exceptional selection of works and to uncover a crucial moment when Western paintings emancipated from a realistic representation of the world.” Japanese Connections presents 10 prints and three folding screens from Japan in dialogue with 24 paintings and three screens from France. The Japanese works include South Wind, Clear Sky from the series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (1831-32), one of Katsushika Hokusai’s most famous works, on loan from the Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet; Yôrô Waterfall in

Using period photographs and films, projections in the exhibition also offer visitors a walk through Paris at the turn of the 20th century, the city then considered the world’s capital of arts. The exhibition will be accompanied by programming that celebrates Japanese arts and culture. The weekend of the exhibition opening will feature the Emirati-Japanese Kharsha Drums group, who will play traditional waikaido percussion performances played by Japanese and Emirati musicians to the museum. The programme will offer film screenings curated by Hind Mezaina, a talk entitled ‘100o years of Manga’ exploring how Japanese traditions inspired the phenomenon and a project with renowned street artist Myneandyours whose collaboration with several UAE schools will be showcased in the museum. The programme culminates with a Big in Japan weekend including a spoken word by awardwinning Emirati Afra Atiq, and a performance by the Turntable Symphonograph Orchestra from Japan. The museum’s café will feature a special Japanese inspired menu. The Manga Lab, a creative and experimental space for youth, will offer a variety of entertaining experiences exploring contemporary Japanese culture, including virtual reality, retro arcade gaming, an expression wall, a chill-out reading area, and a series of masterclasses and workshops about Manga and graphic art. As part of this spectacular space, we will display Manga-inspired art works from four Emirati artists. The Manga Lab will be located in Louvre Abu Dhabi’s forum. Entrance to the exhibition is free with the museum ticket. Visitors can tour the exhibition through a multimedia guide that is available in Arabic, English and French. Yes, there’s no luxury spa or fancy whirlpools, but that’s not what Centro is about. The advanced gym is full of body-pumping equipment to suit workout, whilst the stunning rooftop pool is an excellent place to sunbathe and admire the far-reaching surrounding city views. The facilities and clean and appealing – so what more can you ask for from what is officially certified as a 3-star hotel?

FINAL VERDICT

Fabulous scenic views and your usual inroom amenities like tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary water bottles, a mini fridge, safe box, hair dryer, and toiletries, plus an iron and ironing board (something that many four and five-star hotels don’t even provide) , really make this room type perfect for business visitors, couples, and single travellers too. For a long weekend or work trip, this is the perfect space to come back to after a busy day out.

FOOD GOALS

There are three dining options at the Centro Capital Centre; c.taste, c.mondo, and c.deli. We were particularly impressed with the lunch buffet at c.taste. There was a great selection of fresh salads, delicious hot mains and yummy desserts. To top that off, more creative appetisers and fresh juices also add to please the hungry crowd. There’s an energetic and upbeat vibe at the restaurant, and the all-day dining menu is packed with an array of food for lunch and dinner too. For those on the go, c.deli is just right; it has some scrummy sandwiches, paninis, sushi, salad boxes, muffins, cookies and other delectable snacks, all at reasonable prices, for any guests who want to grab a quick bite to eat. On the other hand, a more casual bar atmosphere can be found at

Centro Capital Centre has a sophisticated and sustainable approach to hospitality. We’ve stayed here many times and yet the hotel has never once disappointed in its customer service experience. What it doesn’t do, and what we love, is that the hotel is not trying to be like other properties in its range, but instead has created its own dynamic identity through high quality finishing touches, stylish interiors (the couch in the room gave us major interior envy) and affordable accommodation. Even in the rooms, the design and layout is very clever; mirrors are incorporated in the décor to create an illusion of space and practicality. While the breakfast bar area and long work desk, in the studio, gives a sense of everyday living with a separation from sleep time. The staff are welcoming and helpful – we were always met with a smile and a friendly greeting from everyone, whether it be housekeeping, waiters, doormen or front desk, everyone was on the same page of delivering the best memorable service to guests. Above all, the location of the hotel is another winning factor. Right beside Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and only 20 minutes from the airport as well as 20 minutes the other way to the Corniche (and there’s always a bunch of taxis outside the hotel entrance), for anyone looking to be closer to exhibitions and conventions, this is the place to stay. Furthermore, although fitting for business visitors, this hotel is also a fantastic choice for holidaymakers who want a good base from which to explore the city. Passing through the old city area and past palace gardens filled with orange trees, we arrive at the sweeping driveway leading up to the Mandarin Oriental Marrakech just 15 minutes after leaving the airport. This theme of water continues into the monochromatic lobby, where striking black and white portraits of Berber women stare down from above, while curtains billow and the scent of oud makes for a sensuous first impression. This being Mandarin Oriental, there is no wait to check-in. Instead we’re invited out onto the terrace to sip on traditional Moroccan mint tea which is poured with such showmanship, as the check-in formalities are completed. Once refreshed we board a buggy to transport us to our Mandarin Oriental Pool Villa. Despite seeing images of the property online before visiting, nothing could’ve prepared us for one of Mandarin Oriental Marrakech’s 54 private villas. For what lies behind a pair of large double doors, leaves us holding our breath as we await the big reveal. THE VILLA Behind the intricately carved doors lies the Mandarin Pool Villa, an easy contender for the most luxurious of hotel villas. Fully enclosed by a flower strewn stone wall that encompasses the space for total privacy, we enter into a courtyard that surrounds a private pool complete with jacuzzi. Resulting in an outside space that is both functional and relaxing. Aside from the plethora of seating options (dining table, daybeds and cushioned majlis) guests will discover a small garden dotted with fruit trees that contains an outdoor shower, alongside a fireplace and charming outside kitchen where you can prepare your own Moroccan mint tea, or have the culinary team prepare something for you. The villa takes on a horseshoe shape that loops around the private pool and with much of the structure constructed from glass; the space is flooded in natural light. Designed as mini riads, at the back lies the bedroom where the exceptionally comfortable king bed sits upon a raised podium and the entire room can be controlled at the touch of a button lights, curtains and even a television that pops out from the footboard of the bed! A marble-clad bathroom helps to promote a sense of serenity and features a walk-in dressing room, double vanities, a freestanding tub and your very own steam room. Embracing local culture is part of the Mandarin Oriental concept and we truly appreciated the attention to detail, with black soap, local Nectarome products and scouring mitts provided in the steam room, for guests to partake in their own private hammam. Soft furnishings abound in the living area, home to a mini bar, writing desk and Apple television. The open plan nature of the villa (which can be separated via doors) adds appeal and a sense of freedom to the beautifully decorated space which takes on a romantic feel once the evening turn down service is complete and the villa is lit by candlelight.

THE GROUNDS Escape and relaxation form the core of the Mandarin Oriental experience and although the villas all feature private swimming pools, the resort has an impressive communal pool set against the external facade of the hotel building and flanked with water filled lagoons. THE SPA Presenting signature treatments for which the Mandarin Oriental brand is renowned in addition to Moroccan specialties such as hammam, the spa at Mandarin Oriental Marrakech spans an impressive 1,800sqm. Designed by French duo Gilles & Boissier in Andalusian style, the terracotta archways and high ceilings of the spa are an Instagrammer’s dream and with an indoor pool, hammam and six spa suites (including one for couples). Each of the spa suites is named after one of the elements and the names are etched into the walls using traditional Berber fonts. The spacious spa suites include heated massage beds and a small garden for post-treatment relaxation. The spa team actively encourages visitors to disconnect from technology and embrace mindfulness via the use of adult colouring books. A 70sqm indoor pool, yoga studio and state of the art gymnasium can also be found to the rear of the spa. Featuring the latest technology, business travellers in particular will appreciate the option of connecting their devices to the cardiovascular equipment, meaning that they never miss an email, even when working out. FINE FOOD The dining options at Mandarin Oriental Marrakech are particularly strong, sitting well within the luxury confines of the property. Mes’Lalla represents an alternative take on the all day dining with its breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. rriving at Don Totu Storica in the tiny town of San Cassiano, Puglia you’ll find a large door of an old stone building. The entry is small and unassuming and what lies behind is a total surprise. This 18th century palazzo boasts some of the most secluded grounds and gardens in the region. It comes as no surprise that this boutique hotel hosts many repeat guests with its super elegant yet understated vibe and you can see how it feels like a home away from home - totally private and relaxing. The hotel is decorated in muted tones with thoughtful accents such as antique mirrors, Puglian ceramics and large art deco chandeliers. There is a beautiful sitting room where guests can play chess or enjoy a drink. We are shown the large kitchen where you are welcome to help yourself to homemade snacks that are changed up daily as well as juices and soft drinks. Off the kitchen is the beautiful courtyard where breakfast is served daily surrounded by olive trees, and stone staircases. We continue the tour off the side of the courtyard to find a huge garden with a swimming pool. You’ll find everything from pine trees to white roses and loads of cactus, which Puglia is known for. How this space is even possible is a total surprise and it’s not what you’d expect after entering the small street front entrance. The garden leads onto the pool area which is simply stunning with a pergola at the end that is decorated in art deco furniture in bold colours. Don Tuto has only six rooms which adds to the boutique feel of the property and makes it feel exclusive and peaceful. It’s been so thoughtfully decorated and the building itself adds so much to the ambience with its stone ceilings, quiet corners, tranquil garden areas, small alcoves and rooftop terraces. There are gorgeous touches to the furniture and decoration with shells, lamps, more Puglian ceramics and lots of stone accents. fact magazine

The Don Totu Suite off the library has a beautiful bathroom with a free-standing bath and double vanity, and it also has a gorgeous terrace accessed by a tiny stone staircase. The other rooms are all equally beautiful and there is also a family room with two single beds. The rooms were built in keeping with the original structure and materials. They are all different and show great taste in the choice of decor, with canopy beds, ceramics and unique mirrors and chandeliers. Breakfast here is a real delight eaten under the stunning courtyard. There is a sensational spread of fresh fruit, local cakes and brioches, sliced cold cuts of meat, and freshly baked bread and eggs made to order. The coffee is excellent as it should be in Italy and they’ll whip you up a freshly squeezed juice of your choice. If you order lunch in the morning they will serve it to you in the courtyard or better yet, by the pool. The staff will also serve you a homemade gelato at the pool round 3pm to satisfy any sweet cravings. Aperitivo hour is a highlight, with Aperol Spritz served up with a twist of orange, or an Italian style Gin & Tonic should that take your fancy. You can also sign up for a cooking class which is fabulous and shows you how to make pasta from scratch and you can learn more about the local wines that are well worth a try. Dinner is best eaten at the surrounding towns and the excellent staff will make any bookings for you. Horse riding and vespa tours can also be arranged and are an absolute must out. You can also start your morning with a yoga class. This hotel is truly something unique and certainly magical. It manages to hit the mark with outstanding hospitality paired with luxury. ✤

If there’s one thing we learned from test driving the Jaguar F-Type Coupé, it’s that even for those who aren’t major car enthusiasts, this vehicle was pure temptation. A stunner in every sense, pulling up in the Jaguar F-Type Coupé is the same feeling as turning towards the business class cabin on a flight – excitement in the knowledge that you’re about to be treated to an exclusive experience that very few have access to. The striking ultra blue bodywork is slick enough to awe passers-by, but does the dynamic package underneath all the sleek match up to entice a purchase? The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine shows off some real power by hitting 0-100 km/h in a mere 5.7 seconds. We’re talking an easy breezy drive down from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, our record time was 1 hour and 10 minutes – that’s from the heart of Business Bay all the way to Al Reem Island (all within speed limit, of course) – pretty impressive, right? The exhaust makes the sports car far more audible than other vehicles in the same range, yet a little bit more restrained, as you’d expect from the four-pot. F-Type’s technical excellence gives it a breadth of capabilities to suit the demands of every driver and every road. The car’s dynamism feels effortless thanks to the advanced driving technologies. To give tighter turning and reduce understeer, Torque Vectoring provides controlled independent braking of the inside front and rear wheels during cornering. The Electronic Active Differential can take this one step further, working with the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system to precisely manage torque delivery to each of the rear wheels. My ultimate favourite massage is their Thai Herbal Compress Massage which is a treatment neither expensive nor complicated, yet effective. The Thai Herbal Compress technique offers several potential health benefits too as it induces deep relaxation, relieves stress and fatigue, and boosts both emotional and physical well-being. Now to the massage: 90 minutes of relaxation heaven. My therapist Susan works on my back with two heated herb-filled compresses as a first step. Then, lavender oil is applied to my skin with long, flowing strokes that wash away any strain and tiredness. It is not an overly firm massage but there are elbows involved, pushing into pressure points and gliding along particular tight muscles. Then we go back to the bundle of herbs and repeat. After the back, my therapist works on the rest of my body, slowly working her way up to the neck and head. A large part of this treatment seems to be the aromatherapy benefits of the dried herbs in the fabric compress bundle. Among the herbsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; multiple uses is lemongrass that helps to lift the mood while the lavender oil used is marvelous for calming the nervous system for reducing anxiety and emotional stress. e are no strangers to eating at The Park Bar & Grill with their amazing offering of high quality steaks and seafood. The restaurant, which is at Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel & Villas on Saadiyat Island has recently undergone some changes with more approachable food that is still quality without the air of over-indulgent fine dining. They have also added in some extra vegetarian dishes and some new vegan dishes some of which use organic ingredients. They have also very cleverly added in a Tasting Menu and a Vegetarian Menu due to the popularity of so many people changing to a more plant based diet. The menus are designed for someone who wishes to entrust them completely with the menu choices to offer you a memorable evening. It’s a complete gastronomic experience that changes every day based on the freshest products carefully sourced and handcrafted by the chefs. This provides you with a completely unique and creative approach to dining. This restaurant exudes refinement with high ceilings and an open plan kitchen. Clean and understated tones are seen throughout the restaurant and we appreciate the extreme low lighting. The staff are super professional and helpful and talk us through the menu. We are being treated to the tasting menu and we start off with a selection of three dishes. The sea scallop with bone marrow, sherry wine, pickled cucumber and scallion. The cage-free soft egg with cauliflower, noisette butter and miso mayo and finally the Octopus with Crispy Rice accompanied by zucchini, pine nut, fromage blanc. All three are knockout dishes and we love the new concept of serving modern and innovative cuisine without the stuffiness of fine dining. We also try the Beetroot salad which is so simple with wafer thin slices of red and white beetroot served with goats yoghurt and black garlic. For mains we try the new signature dish, the LDV Eggplant Steak which has been created off the belief that Leonardo Da Vinci was a vegetarian. They have cleverly created this eggplant dish so

that the piece of vegetable is cooked and comes served so that it looks like a steak but is actually 100% vegan. It’s served up with celeriac, chestnut, onion and aged balsamic and is simply delicious. Who knew that eggplant could be this good! We also try the veal rack which is perfectly cooked with sweetbreads, pickled apricot, onion puree and black garlic. For the desserts with the Tasting Menu, there is a delightful dessert trolley with everything from fresh fruits, cheesecake, cakes, tartes and much more. The perfect end to a wonderful dinner. ✤

The tiki-themed venue has proven a popular dining and nightlife spot and is celebrating with an exciting revamp of the restaurant menu featuring the return of many old favourites alongside some inventive new dishes. FACT explores… fact magazine

s a concept, Trader Vic’s does an admirable job of capturing the essence of the Pacific Islands, where tropical vibes and a sense of relaxation are freely promoted by restaurant manager Youness Garfa, and his capable team. A worldwide concept with branches located in the USA, UK, Germany, Seychelles and Japan, Trader Vic’s feeds into diners’ desire to find a little slice of paradise close to home. Originally founded in 1932, Trader Vic’s has been recognised as the home of the original Mai Tai and it was the charms of the bar area that grabbed our attention upon entry. The inventive beverages help to conjure up images of turquoise waters and white sandy beaches through the utilisation of tropical ingredients such as passion fruit, pineapple and coconuts, Not forgetting the fun and quirky glassware which the drinks are presented in. The lounge area is certainly the life and soul of any visit to Trader Vic’s in Abu Dhabi and with live music each night from the energetic in-house Cuban band, the venue successfully blends the line between restaurant and nightclub with assured certainty. For those looking to enjoy a meal before dancing the night away, the expansive dining room is dotted with tiki artifacts. Carved wooden long boats can be found suspended from the ceiling, where woven ropes are knotted into distinct patterns overhead. An audacious choice of carpet patterning would appear out of place in any other venue but, at Trader Vic’s the large swells appear like the waves of the Pacific Ocean upon the dining room floor. The setup in pleasantly informal with wooden tables and chairs clustered in small groups around the dining room and we’d strongly suggest reserving one of the tables situated close to the Chinese oven. Dating back to the Han Dynasty, these ovens differ from the traditional direct fire barbecues in the fact that the flame never touches the meat. With the protein suspended above the fire, the fats drip into the flame, and the smoke created imparts an additional flavour profile to the meat and seafood, as well as an interesting piece of dining theatre. Much like the venue itself, Chef Jimmy Sek is an institution. Having been with the Abu Dhabi branch since inception, he truly encapsulates the Trader Vic’s mantra of ‘escape to the islands and taste the world.’ For the menu is a truly global affair taking inspiration from the cuisines of Polynesia, the Far East, the Mediterranean and a touch of Creole, resulting in a truly eclectic selection of dishes influenced by the world. We begin with the Salmon Lomi Lomi, a dish of marinated salmon served with diced mango, red chillies and toasted sesame seeds. Similar in nature to a ceviche, the name of this Hawaiian dish translates as 92

‘massage.’ For the meat is caressed to provide a tender texture before being cured in lime and salt for a period of twelve hours. From the ‘tidbits and pupus’ (bar snacks) we enjoy the golden fried jalapeño cheese balls, the Chinese-inspired crispy duck rolls and the beef cho cho. The latter dish is the restaurant’s signature that brings a touch of interactivity to the dinner experience, where diners are required to cook rare beef skewers marinated in a soysake glaze over a flaming hibachi. Our choice of main courses include the delightfully fruity mango chili beef, the Norwegian Salmon which is suspended from a hook before being slow-cooked over the wood-fired oven and served alongside a celery root and potato puree and moreish chimichurri sauce, and the beef flambé. Prepared tableside, the beef is thinly sliced prior to being flambéed in a French mustard and brandy sauce that complements the meat extremely well. These three popular choices signify dishes that represent the finest fusion cuisine for which Trader Vic’s has become renowned. As Trader Vic’s approaches its silver anniversary, the venue remains one of the only places in the Emirates to enjoy tiki themed food and beverages and with the recent closure of Mahiki in Dubai, Trader Vic’s represents a true test of time. As we sip on a Tiki Puka Puka we cannot help but gleefully raise a glass to another 25 years of fun, frivolity and tropical vibes in the capital. ✤

The process of this facial is not like any we have had before. The Italian born skin experts at CromoAromo have used their passion for alternative and natural remedies to develop a unique range of skincare treatments that combine chromotherapy/colour therapy, aromatherapy, and the latest generation key ingredients to provide stressed and toneless skin with a surplus of energy and nourishment. All CromoAroma facials use a balanced combination of Colour & BioAroma Oils to enhance the well-being of the body focusing not only on the physical state but the emotional and psychic state of the skin as well. The BioAroma oils used are 100% pure, of natural origin extracted from barks, resins, flowers and fruits. All products are Paraban and Preservative free, mineral oil free, silicone free, alcohol free and are vegan certified. The process starts with filling a form where they ask about your lifestyle in order to help the inner health issue along with the treatment. The facial began with a ten-minute back massage which is done to help you to become relaxed so that when the facial starts you are truly calm and ready. Our therapist first uses a cleansing lotion with bisabolol base to remove surface dirt and makeup, and then our skin is exfoliated to remove dead skin cells. Our face is then steamed to open up pores and our expert therapist then removes stubborn build up from our nose and chin with absolutely no pain! Our skin is then massaged thoroughly with a calming serum including neck, chest and shoulders before a heavy hydrating and calming mask is applied followed by the rose water infused toning sheet mask on the skin. Moisturiser, spf and eye cream are then applied and we are left with even, glowing skin. The treatment is based on holistic methods that originate from a very important concept: the skin never lies, but clearly reveals our health condition and lifestyle. Every concern that appears on our skin is actually an inner imbalance related to high peaks of physical and emotional stress and possible bad habits. It’s recommended to do a course of five treatments to see best results. We finish our visit off with a visit to the hair salon where their lovely hairdresser gives us a deep conditioning treatment and a bouncy blow-dry that leaves our tresses in perfect order. he Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island has already made its mark in the capital as a chic and luxury hotspot and we experience nothing less when visiting their spa. Dahlia Spa is located on the third floor of the hotel along with the fitness centre and gorgeous swimming pool. We were warmly welcomed at the reception of the spa and asked to fill out our information. The spa prides itself on exclusivity and tailor made treatments, meaning you can pick your preferences from everything to the massage oil they use, to the sort of touch used for a massage (thumb, palm or elbow) and there are options for durations of treatment also. We love the detail that goes into this to ensure that all our needs are met. On this particular spa visit we are trying the unique Quartz Sand Escape massage. This is the only Abu Dhabi spa to offer quartz sand therapy, which uses a heated massage table filled with fine quartz sand. It’s based on the ancient Greek concept of psammotherapy – sand “baths” that were used to cure aches and pains – and the combination of the body-penetrating warmth, a calming massage and the healing properties of the quartz takes you somewhere else entirely. We are ushered into the beautiful changing rooms where we slip into a luxury robe and slippers and are then taken downstairs to the treatment rooms. The space is serene and ambient with lots of cream, timber and calming green marble accents. Dark timber pathways lead us past stunning water features to our treatment room. Our therapist treats us to a fabulous foot bath while we discuss in more detail our areas of concern - our neck and upper

back in this case. The massage table looks like any other but is filled with the heated fine quartz sand which actually looks like tiny bits of gold. We lay down on the very comfortable massage bed and are delighted to see that our therapist has placed a blue, cooling face mask (similar to the ones used for your eyes) on top of the hole of the table so that our face doesn’t become creased. This is something we haven’t seen before and we absolutely loved it. The sand bed feels incredible and is totally innovative to anything we’ve tried previously, there is a sheet between you and the sand and the therapist moves the sand around your body so that you are at your most comfortable. Our talented therapist starts with soothing strokes on our upper back before really working hard with deep pressure to release all of our kinks and pain from our sore muscles all over our body. We start to feel relaxed almost instantly and we love the different stretching techniques that are used to really relax our body. The are several oils to choose from and for this massage we’ve picked “Detox” which is great for circulation. It includes scents such as grapefruit, lavender, apricot and pine and goes onto our skin warm, and then it is nicely worked in. When we flip over, the therapist then uses the buttons to start off the massage attributes of the bed so while our front is being massaged our back is also being massaged. Very clever indeed! We leave feeling utterly relaxed and very soothed after having some time out. The whole experience was a real treat and we really felt that the spa has an air of deliberate polish that we love so you will definitely be well looked after. There are so many lovely treatments to choose from including everything from Swisse Perfection Facials, Facials from French skincare brand Biologique Recherche soothing massages, Dhalia Spa journeys and much more. You’ll certainly want to linger for longer. ✤
