Get Summer Body Ready “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn
O
ne of my favourite film scenes is from Pitch Perfect when Rebel Wilson is sprawled over chairs whilst her fellow acapella ladies are running laps up and down the stairs. “I’m horizontal running,” she says! THAT, is so me. Though I went through a period of time when I lived at the gym, nowadays it’s all about Friday brunches, catching up on the latest TV series, and lazy days by the pool. So, I needed the body issue just as much as any of you out there who are looking to get back into shape the healthy way. Check out our ultimate A to Z guide to Get Your Summer Body starting p33. This is our round up of delicious super foods, fun exercises, and other steps that you can take to becoming healthier. Remember, exercise to be fit, eat well to nourish your body, and trust the process! If you prefer to get your health boost from the best fitness facilities and trainers in town, followed by a soothing spa treatment, our round up of some of the great gyms and spas in Bahrain is a good place to start. Turn to p47 and be inspired to workout and rejuvenate at these fabulous spots for weight loss, detox, toning and, of course, complete relaxation. And for those of you who are all about the food, we’ve got three five-star recipes to stir your inner foodie to eat healthier without the need to sacrifice on taste. Check out what the island’s chefs recommend to keep your new lifestyle tasty (p61). When all the body talk is said and done, there’s so much more to read about in FACT this month. For art lovers, there’s another great talent featured this month. Meet Hussain Al Noaimi who is bringing his own brand of Artoholic to the creative scene (p71) with mixed media works using vivid colours and awesome techniques. Fashion is at its peak with spring collections taking over the high street stores. Zara makes our fashion focus on p91, whilst it’s brands galore throughout for anyone still shopping for that key seasonal piece. I have made a promise to restart my gym schedule (it’s going to happen, for real). What healthy change will you be making this month? Tweet us @FACTBahrain and let us know. Let’s be each other’s motivation. Summer body, here I come…☺ Shabana Adam, Editor-in-Chief shabana@fact-magazine.com 6

Luxury Living
The privately-owned real estate investment company, Bin Faqeeh, has officially launched a five-year plan known as the Limited 5 which entails the launch of an exclusive limited edition luxury project each year for five years, starting 2015. These properties reward its tenants with luxurious lifestyle experiences unlike any in the entire GCC. The Limited 5 plan commenced with the development of an exclusive residential apartment building with a commercial shopping front on the ground floor known as Waterbay. It is situated in the prime location of Bahrain Bay facing the Four Seasons Hotel. The design concept is to create homely yet high-end luxury accommodation that is synonymous with comfort and draws similarity to a superior hotel lifestyle experience. An aerial view of the glassed property resembles a yacht that sparkles in the sun with an ultimate chic and premium
architectural design. The wide corridors create an illusion of a five-star hotel, while the rooftop houses a running track with the most breathtaking view of Bahrain’s skyline and the sea. Other facilities include a swimming pool, gyms segregated for men and women, prayer rooms, movie theatres, a nursery, multi-purpose rooms, restaurants and coffee shops with delivery. Since a majority of Bin Faqeeh’s clients are from neighbouring GCC countries, a luxury car transportation facility with a concierge service to and from the property has been made available in addition to water taxi services to Avenue Mall via an exclusive collaboration with Bahrain Bay. If this sounds like your kind of luxury living, get in touch with Bin Faqeeh today! ✤ GO: Follow @BinFaqeeh_Co on Instagram for more information.

German kitesurfer and world-record holder, Anke Brandt, kite-surfed 298 kilometres from Bahrain to Doha during the GET Kite Mission-Kitesurf Arabia, breaking her previous world record. Anke currently holds the world record for the longest distance kite-surfed by a woman. “By kiting for over 17 hours, I managed to break my previous record of 250 kilometres,” she said. The kitesurfer, accompanied by a team on-board a support boat, braved the night and mother nature when she began her journey from ART Rotana, Amwaj Islands on March 17 at 4pm (GMT+3). “The goal of the mission was to raise $5,500 for Wings for Life, a charity organisation which is trying to make spinal cord injury curable through on-going research,” Anke added. The initial aim of the GET Kite Mission-Kitesurf Arabia was to kite-surf 550 kilometres from Bahrain to Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. However, weather conditions prevented the team from doing so. “We tried to pick the perfect day but things can change and this time the weather moved in too fast, so we had to make the call to stop at Doha,” Anke explained. Donations are still welcome and can be made through Anke’s website at www.ankebrandt.com. ✤

g Greens By greens, we mean leafy salads and delicious veggies like asparagus, broccoli, okra and spinach. It’s no secret, that even though Bahrain is a dry and dusty place, we are really spoiled for choice when it comes to fresh salads and healthy food options. Try the brand new “lighter” menu at Al Abraaj restaurants – it’s the same yummy flavours and quality ingredients, but with a healthy spin. The Quinoa and Almond Salad with Torn Chicken Breast is our fave!
h Hula Hooping Hoop yourself to your body best in time for summer! Hula hooping is so much fun, and helps to burn mega calories as well as sculpting your body and blasting off belly fat! The great thing about hula hooping is that you can do it alone to your favourite tunes or you can get together with friends for a workout with a difference that will certainly keep you on your toes. Maybe even start your own hula movement – that’ll be a first for Bahrain!
f Flax Seeds They’re super popular in this region, and for good reason. Flax seeds have some seriously good health benefits. This little seed is a quality source of both important dietary staples; protein and fibre, which can be taken through supplement tablets, as well as in ground and oil form. A regular dose of flax seeds can help to reduce the risk of such health issues such as liver disease, depression, and high cholesterol to name but a few.

Method The Quinoa Salad • Cook the quinoa as per the packet. • Once cooled add in the olives, diced tomato, chopped parsley and add a tablespoon of olive oil, season to taste and mix well - this can be done in advance and chilled in the fridge. The Tomato Reduction • Sauté the onions, garlic and thyme in a pan. • Once the onions are translucent in colour add the whole peeled tomatoes. • Stir the ingredients together and turn down the heat to simmer for 30 minutes or until there is little liquid left. • Let the reduction cool and place in

The Beetroot Crisps • Preheat your oven to 100C. • Finely slice your raw beetroot and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper (leave enough space between each). • Bake for approx. one hour or until the beetroot chips are crispy.
The Scallops • To cook your scallops, dry them on a paper towel to ensure there is not too much moisture on them, and season with salt and pepper. • You need to make sure your pan is nice and hot before you start cooking. • Cook the scallops for max one minute on each side or until they get quite firm to the touch (you do not want to overcook them as they will lose their flavour and dry out). HEALTH ADVICE
Dr. Stephen Angamuthu, Consultant General Surgeon at Royal Bahrain Hospital: “A chronic health problem on the rise is obesity, which is a result from an excess of fat exceeding the body’s physical needs. “Obesity almost always leads to a number of other chronic health conditions, which we call co-morbidities. Some examples are cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type II diabetes, Pulmonary dysfunction, Osteoarthritis, Gallbladder disease, Cancer (breast and colon), and many others,” Dr. Stephen explains. However, it is difficult to shed all of the excess fat through just diet and exercise. With proper commitment this can be achieved, but nonetheless many find the most rigorous of diets and exercise routines difficult to follow or not success. “Bariatric surgery is the perfect option for those who want the full and permanent solution if a conservative line fails,” Dr. Stephen says. “Millions of people worldwide have undergone bariatric surgery successfully. As a matter of fact, in most cases, the risks that arise from remaining obese are greater than that of undergoing surgery.” Dr. Stephen goes on to explain more about the surgery itself and how it is done at Royal Bahrain Hospital. “We have adopted the modern, minimally-invasive techniques to be used whenever the case allows it. These techniques have made bariatric surgery even safer, and include less bleeding and shorter post-operation recovery times.” In order to combat the rising rate of obesity
An Out For Obesity
Bariatric Surgery at Royal Bahrain Hospital in Bahrain, Dr. Stephen recommends all people to assess their weight and choose their options. “If you choose bariatric surgery, you will finally see all the beneficial effects it will have on your health, which have been confirmed by numerous studies,” he advises. “For example, you will prevent obesity-related diseases, have an extended life span, increased energy and self-esteem, and of course weight loss. The average weight loss expected over three years is 62 per cent of the excess weight.
“If you want to know if you’re a good candidate for bariatric surgery, schedule an appointment with a trusted surgeon who has performed this operation. He or she will be able to assess your case fully and work with you to begin your journey to becoming healthier,” Dr. Stephen adds.. ✤ Dr. Stephen Angamuthu is a Consultant General & Bariatric Surgeon at Royal Bahrain Hospital. eing relatively new to the local art scene, Hussain Al Noaimi is making a mark with his originality and unique spin on artistic tools and methods. He works with mixed media art to create vibrant and interesting works that include pop culture legends like Charlie Chaplin and Bob Marley, as well as famous figures such as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe and, much closer to home, the late great Bahraini singer, guitarist and organ player, Ali Bahar. Hussain’s work also presents striking images of glorious animals like the beloved falcon and horses. Let’s just say, he likes to keep things varied. “I perceive art as meditation,” Hussain tells us. “It’s the time I go into another world, where everything is full of colours and my path is like a blank canvas. And I am addicted to that serenity, that moment; hence why I proudly call myself an artoholic. “Each piece that I create comes from my vision and I need to be motivated to create,” he adds. “Sometimes my vision just pours onto the canvas and other times I need to bang my head against the wall, hypothetically speaking, just to bring my vision to life.” fact magazine

LOCAL arts
On average, Hussain spends around a week on one piece. He loves experimenting and keeping an open mind to new artistic surprises. THIS is his technique and it’s something that gives Hussain’s work an intriguing authority. “It’s like being on the edge,” he says. “Sometimes I fall and other times new, unexpected possibilities of expression and technique become available to me. I love mixing three to four different techniques in one piece. I love the roughness of a collage and the finishing of the work with acrylics,” Hussain continues. “My experimentation with wood transfer as an art form is my newest passion. There’s something very beautiful about the ruggedness of wood as a form of art. I can transfer any photograph or picture on wood and create beautiful art.” Looking back, Hussain reminisces unleashing his passion for art and colours as a child, on a blank new wall that was built at his family home after renovations. “That wall became my first ever canvas,” he recalls. “I asked my dad if I could draw there - he agreed - and that was that. “For many years, my creation became the focal point in the sitting area. Everyone who came home loved my art and that encouraged me to go to art classes after school,” he says.
LOCAL ARTS SCENE.., As an artist in Bahrain, Hussain admits that the biggest challenge is reaching a bigger, international market. However, he recognises that through many initiatives and events like ArtBahrain, local artists are getting the support and exposure that they deserve. 74

Hussain drifted from his artistic talent for a while, and it was only when he decided to take a leap of faith and leave his full time job, to concentrate on his own business, that the arts found a way back into his life. He explains: “My business of a unique gift gallery in Budaiya gave me the chance to travel a lot to Far East. And that’s when I rekindled my romance with the arts. I visited numerous art galleries that inspired me to pick up my paint brush and create something new. As an artist in Bahrain, Hussain admits that the biggest challenge is reaching a bigger, international market. Hussain’s inspiration comes from various international artists as well as unrecognised young local artists that he’s met on his travels. He says: “Every artist has his own style. I make an extra effort to remain constantly open to new possibilities and innovative methods. This way I give new creative processes the opportunity to carry me forward.” And where can you go to get up close with Hussain’s work? “My home in Saar is open for all who love art and would like to see what I do,” he says. “It’s a place where my work is easily available for purchase, right from the comfort of my home. And it’s open for everyone to come and share my passion.” For upcoming artists or anyone with an appetite for art, Hussain advises: “Don’t be afraid of experimenting. Sometimes you will fail, but from all failures you will learn. Don’t give up, and follow your passion.” Spoken like a true artoholic. ✤

The Jungle Book What’s it about: Based on Rudyard Kipling’s book of short stories and inspired by Disney’s animated classic, The Jungle Book is the story of Mowgli, the “mancub” raised by wolves and befriended by Baloo the bear.
Director: Jon Favreau cast: Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Bill Murray Why it’s worth watching? With an all-star voice cast, including Scarlett Johansson (Kaa), Idris Elba (Shere Khan), Bill Murray (Baloo), Ben Kingsley (Bagheera), and Christopher Walken (King Louie), Disney’s The Jungle Book is given a new lease of life with breathtaking live-action CG. This story sees Mowgli, played by newcomer Neel Sethi, embark on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by pantherturned-stern mentor Bagheera, and the free-spirited bear, Baloo. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, as the fearsome tiger Shere Khan, who bears the scars of Man, is out to eliminate what he sees as a threat. What we love from the trailer footage released so far, is that director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Chef, Elf) has gone all out to make this an epic adventure that stays true to the pages of Rudyard Kipling’s books, and carries on the legacy of the 1967 animated classic, with true cinematic boldness. This is a more sophisticated take on The Jungle Book, one that adults and children alike will appreciate and adore.

The Unruly Mess I’ve Made

This latest offering from the Seattle rapperduo strikes a tone that is almost apologetic following on from their rise to superstardom, even down to the album’s title. It’s almost like they’re scared of being too successful and losing touch with their roots. It’s chock-full of moral messages and references to white privilege, with songs like Light Tunnels sounding like a traumatic experience, until you realise it’s about him winning at the Grammys. This is a shame though, because if they’d just gone ahead and had as much fun as they had in The Heist, this album would probably be more enjoyable. The highlight is undoubtedly Downtown, a track that echoes the catchiness of Thrift Shop, only with a real old-school hiphop flavour a la Grandmaster Flash, and is just downright fun (just check out the music video – ever seen a giant chrome eagle chariot being towed by a team of Royal Enfield motorcycles? No, we didn’t think so…). A worthy successor to The Heist, but a tad more serious.

This is What the Truth Feels Like
This is the third novel in a series covering the sad, desperate spies of Slough House, a place where failed MI5 operatives are put out to pasture, pushing papers until they resign or drink themselves to death. The perfect bunch to become embroiled in high-level espionage then! A seemingly ill-disguised exercise to test their security for leaks suddenly exposes dangerous ulterior motives, and the motley crew, led by the flatulent, foul-mouthed bullying chief Jackson Lamb, must come through it intact. With deliciously scabrous dialogue and a dry, droll observational prose, this is spy satire at its best!

There are a few historical British monarchs that tend to steal all the limelight in historical portrayals – Henry VIII, Richard I, Charles I, etc. – so it’s refreshing to see a lesser-known King, in this case, Henry IV, be the subject of a story. It is, however, told from the point of view of Queen Joanna of Navarre, who first married John IV of Brittany, and then left him for Henry later on. It’s a tumultuous love story told against the backdrop of Henry IV’s shaky and unstable reign, and has all the politics, suspicion and intrigue that you’d expect.

Perhaps the strongest track on the whole album is Truth, with honest lyrics sung over a catchy guitar riff that anchors the track list in a way that shows she can still bring the ‘realz’. At the end of the day, This is What the Truth Feels Like is light-hearted pop, and as long as you don’t take it too seriously, it’s an enjoyable romp that is clearly stamped with Stefani’s colourful personality.

CITY RIDES
FACT takes a drive in Volkswagen’s family-friendly and eminently comfortable sedan… When you think ‘Volkswagen’, there are a number of concepts that spring to mind. Inevitably, the Golf GTI and Golf R are first among them. Logically, the Scirocco follows on from those, closely related as they are. Then, perhaps, the Beetle, followed by the Touareg, and then its more compact sibling, the Tiguan, as SUVs are always a big seller in the Gulf. You would also think very good German quality that borders on ‘premium’, but as a result you also think ‘slightly pricey’. At what point, then, would you think of the Passat? Would you think of it more if I told you that you can get a mid-sized sedan with that great German quality and build for as little as BD8,800? And that for this price it would also come with remote central locking, front centre armrest, cruise control, an infotainment system with CD, SD-card reader, AUX-in and USB, 84
fact magazine
Bluetooth connectivity for phones and devices, and front and rear parking sensors? When you take all this into account the Passat starts to look like a seriously good deal. If you take the base-spec model, don’t fret that you’re sacrificing performance, because all of the trim levels, from the S right up to the R-Line, boast the same engine, drivetrain and
chassis, which would be VW ’s 170hp 2.5l inline-five-cylinder engine, mated to the six-speed tiptronic gearbox, which boasts a 0-100km/h time of 9.2 seconds. While this performance isn’t going to light up any tarmac, the power delivery is smooth and constant, and the gear changes quick and seamless, and you’ll never complain about the fuel consumption! More importantly, all the trim levels also boast exactly the same safety package, which includes fullysurrounding curtain airbags front and rear, electronic stability control, antislip regulation, electronic diff-lock, engine brake-assist and intelligent crash response system, as well as the usual ABS and EBD. This makes it one of the safest family sedans you can buy for this money on the market today. The SPORT trim-level we drove adds somewhat to the price, going for around BD12,100. However, it also adds a sunroof, nice 18-inch alloys, leather front sports seats, keyless entry with push button start-stop system and easyopen boot lid (the one that opens with a
CITY RIDES
swipe of your foot underneath the car), and sat-nav. It also adds the excellent Fender premium audio system. As with any Volkswagen, the excellent quality is apparent throughout the car. The interior is stylish and everything feels solidly built. The ride is smooth and extremely quiet, and the car feels poised and agile on the road, thanks to all those safety systems. A real bonus was the air conditioning, which is something European cars can sometimes be known to struggle with, but in the Passat it was easily powerful enough to keep your drinks cold in the middle of summer! In the face of stiff competition from Asian manufacturers increasingly offering more features for less, Volkswagen has responded strongly with the Passat. For these prices, it’s an absolute bargain! ✤ fact magazine

Well, Oculus have taken things even further, teaming up with Samsung to bring you this: the Samsung Gear VR (powered by Oculus). For Her
The main trend for Spring Summer 2016 is a modern femininity in black and white inspired by the glamour of the 1920s. Silhouettes are sculpted among fluid fabrics while lace accents enhance floaty dresses in floral patterns with flounces, exposed shoulders and contrasting frills adding a more contemporary edge. Boudoir elegance also returns with pyjama sets and slip dresses in black, white and powder pink silks and satins, with lace playing a key role in edging all of the sides. Natural textures such as linen and rustic handmade styles create the season’s new dress code and a more versatile look with more relaxed cuts in wrinkled jackets, trousers and shirts. And that’s not to forget the bold colours of the light silhouettes and those of the tie-dye patterns combining crochet details. As the spring season unfolds, sequins and metallic fabrics for both day and night create deconstructed silhouettes by means of effortless key pieces in tones of anthracite, gold and navy blue.
For Him
Inspiration has been drawn from vintage resort style, clearly evidenced in the faded striped garments for summer and seersucker fabrics, harking back to the dandy style and soft tailoring. Military touches appear in the form of camouflage, faded washes, asymmetrical details and patches, while safari style and Mandarin collar shirts or pleated trousers serve as utilitarian basics for every day. Nautical references found in striped patterns and micro-patterns are softened to create a nostalgic nod to the 1920s and 40s. A constant thread running through the collection is sportswear, lending the seasonal styles a practical and modern element, offering a brand of versatility uniting the professional with the informal. This also encompasses pieces such as raincoats, soft shell jackets, padded technical fabrics or jogging or semijogging bottoms, creating hybrids between tailoring and the sportswear look. ✤ GO: Shop Zara’s SS16 Collection at City Centre Bahrain and Seef Mall.

internations interview
InterNations Get Connected InterNations, one of the largest global communities for expats, helps make your move abroad that much more comfortable in every sense of the word. FACT speaks to founder, Malte Zeeck and Manama’s ambassador, Burak Aydin about the benefits of InterNations and how it’s the go-to for expats in Bahrain…
W
hen you move abroad, you’ve got an endless checklist of things to sort out. The logistics of uprooting and heading to the unknown are tough enough as it is. Add to that finding your feet and immersing yourself into a culture far removed from your own. Enter InterNations. “The main focus for us are people who live abroad and to make their lives easier. Through our network they can find relevant information and exchange with others, make friends,” says founder Malte Zeeck. “It’s funny, today I met some members who said they met their partner or found a job through InterNations.” The concept is simple. InterNations operates in 390 cities with over two million members, and all you need is to join or receive an invitation from a fellow member and then you have access to heaps of information, forums and likeminded people. This can help you
navigate job and social opportunities. Malte’s back-story serves as one of the main reasons InterNations was formed. Having been a journalist for German TV stations where he was posted for extended periods of time in places like Dehli, India, he felt displaced and out of touch. “One of the biggest challenges expats have is not to be alone. So that’s what we offer as the main thing, to provide internationally thinking people,” Malte adds. We had to interject with one very true observation about Bahrain as an expat destination: it’s very open and expatfriendly. For a small island, the amount of nationalities that exist and mix is phenomenal and always puts newcomers at ease. “Bahrain is a unique country, it’s a gem,” says Burak, the ambassador of Manama’s InterNations community.
There are around 7,500 members of the Manama community. “Around 30 per cent of our members are consistent and 70 per cent are constantly new.” Proving that Bahrain’s expat community is very lively and there’s a high turnover. The community seeks to help newcomers and established expats with a range of services – events are set up for business and social opportunities and of course the online platforms and forums are great tools for questions and answers. Being or becoming an expat can throw up a host of challenges and issues but InterNations is a fantastic platform to make your transition easier and to continually find opportunities where you least expect them. ✤ GO: Visit www.internations.org/bahrain-expats for more information. fact magazine

CHEF’S TABLE
Italian food has always sat well with us. Maybe it’s the creamy cheese or the perfectly cooked pasta – either way it hits the spot. We meet the newest culinary talent at ART Rotana Amwaj Islands, Chef Alessandro, who is taking over the kitchen at Rosso to create some lovely delights. He tells us about his move to the island from Canada and why, even after just a month, he already prefers it here… When you first see Chef Alessandro you know he’s full-bred Italian – he’s got the dark features and the olive skin to prove it. He’s also a proud Italian from Milan but has spent a significant amount of time in Canada – which was his most recent post. Rosso has that Italian rustic charm that instantly invites you in. The menu is written in chalk up on hanging black boards and empty wine bottles decorate the tables – Chef Alessandro looks at home here. He starts by backtracking his years in Canada and what good came of it, having been in Italy for 30 years. “In Canada my life was in the restaurant – it was very intense. There were lots of arguments, but here I have a really great team and so far it’s been so good. People here don’t complain. It was one of the best decisions I made.” Having been here for just over a month, these are big words, but not uncommon for expats – Bahrain just grips you instantly. Working in a restaurant in a hotel is a first for Chef Alessandro, having been in a stand-alone Italian restaurant before, now he is “completing myself ” – he says – and low and behold, he has his own restaurant in Italy. The word accomplished is very apt in his case. So onto our Italian fare. We were told to make room for 10 items – how do you make room for 10 items?! Well, the Italians always know how to take care of their guests. We start off with Tartare Fresh Salmon with Red and Yellow Peppers, Green Onion with Toasted Bread. Super fresh and wonderfully bright in flavour courtesy of the peppers. We then tucked into a creamy Burrata with Rocket and Cherry Tomatoes – no words, just happy feels – it was THAT good. A really special dish (for just being totally different) is the Octopus Carpaccio with Chives and Citronette – the latter brought out an 114 fact magazine
amazing zest in this dish. For mains we were treated to homemade Linguini with Seafood (mussels, squids, scallops, prawns) and it was hearty and warmed us up nice and good. Chef Alessandro is very much a man of his homemade word. The process of homemade

when it comes to Italian cuisine is very much a hand-me-down art. “You learn from your grandmothers and other people and then make it in your own way.” The homemade Beetroot Gnocchi (a dish that has been awarded in the past) with Gorgonzola Sauce, Walnuts and Parsley. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavours hit the right spot. The Vegetarian Pizza was also a hit, with it’s beautiful base and lush toppings – cravings filled! Chef Alessandro hopes to introduce Sous-vide into the kitchen - a method of cooking in which food is sealed in airtight plastic bags then placed in a water bath or in a temperature-controlled steam environment for longer than normal cooking times – it’s to ensure the item is cooked evenly. With that, “my culinary philosophy is to try and improve every day and get ideas from everyone – you can always learn something new from people with different cultures.” We look forward to dining at Rosso again. Umami can involve all of the senses: sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste. The fifth, taste, is hard to describe, yet unlike salty, sour, sweet or bitter. While the word “umami” is used to describe this taste in most languages, it has also been described as meaty, roasted, earthy or simply “delicious”. A dish has umami when it has become all that can be, when it is at its peak of quality and fulfillment. Each dish has been inspired by the delicate flavours of sake, ranging from sweet, fruity, bold, elegant, earthy, and much more. This menu includes everything from light Spicy Salmon & Tuna Tataki, to the scrumptious Surf and Turf roll, Teppanyaki Wagyu Tenderloin, and even Sakura Wagashi dessert. Discover the subtle secrets of umami at Bushido, this month.
Authentic Vietnamese cuisine is served up at the beautiful Wok restaurant in Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, with a kitchen that can be viewed from the dining room. Every Thursday, enjoy the stunning food of Vietnam brought to straight to your plate by Head Chef, Hoang Minh Duong and his team. They’ll create a unique and refreshing buffet of healthy ingredients and delicacies themed to this wonderful time of year. Marvel the spectacle of lights and flavours either indoors or out on the terrace as this lively venue takes you on a culinary journey. Sounds like the perfect evening out!

Make the Change to see the Change
Getting Ready for the Summer
Yvonne Cole, Personal Trainer, believes that when you eat clean, train hard and trust the process, your consistency and patience pays off…
Christal Dennis, Personal Performance Coach and Hypnotherapist, is dedicated to helping people overcome life’s hurdles and tapping into their deepest potential...
When assessment time comes around for my clients they show two different emotions, excitement or dread. For those who have really started to make the lifestyle change, they only show excitement but for the others, just from the look on their face, you can tell it’s not going to be good news. Well, the truth is, I already know what the results are going to be and then comes the questions “why is my waist measurement not going down?” or “how come I only lost 0.7kg?” So, I once again ask the question “have you made any changes to your eating habits at all” and of course their eyes hit the fall and the answer that comes back is “no, but”. There is no if, buts or maybe when it comes to achieving your health and fitness goals. If you want to make a change in your life, you need to put one foot forward and take that first step. Once again, I had to tell someone the wishing and hoping diet does not work and will never work. Having two healthy meals in one month is not going to change your life and give you the results you’re looking for. I can’t point out enough, just how important nutrition is. You should never deprive yourself; it’s about nourishing yourself. Food is there to heal you, make you happy, and to energise you throughout the day. Exercise can only take you part of the way. Consistency with your nutrition will make up the rest. ✤
Summer is on its way and with our Bahrain heat, clothes will definitely get lighter and some of us will be headed for the beach. So needless to say, many of us will want to be in shape. Although this is a typical pattern for many, being in shape, and being strong and healthy is always better all year round. I know so many people find it hard to shed excess weight, so much so that some might even think that getting that slim figure we had when we were young is impossible. Well, I’m here to say that it definitely is possible and doable. It’s not about the latest diet that you just discovered that you hope is going to work. As a matter of fact, it seems to me that if you followed most diets exactly as they’re prescribed, you’ll reach the goals set. It’s more about being able to follow a certain chosen lifestyle and sticking to it. That is the hard part. It’s all in the mindset really, and being aware of how you feel. Your lifestyle also has a very important role to play in your getting in shape. Strong emotions and stress may compel you to want to eat more. So before you choose to go low carb or low fat, become aware of what is going on inside and in your life. You might be surprised to find that you get way more than a slim trim body! ✤

Love What Your Mama Gave You
#The #Crowne #Wedding #Show
Georgina Jennsen is the blogger behind the popular lifestyle blog, Blonde in Bahrain. Georgina loves all things beautiful and luxurious.
How would you feel if you found out that the body you have right now – whether toned and fit, or cuddly and comfortable – is the same body you’ll have all through this coming summer? And winter after that. And the summer after that. You get the idea. Basically, your body would remain unchanged from this day on. No getting in shape for summer, no bikini body, no drastic diets to drop those extra pounds, no crazed Crossfit classes to tone and build a shapelier bod. And with that in mind, here are a few ways I’m personally trying to make the most of what I’ve got, right now. One - doing only what I love. After spending many years pumping iron in the gym, and squatting like my life depended on it, I’m now getting most of my exercise by walking my dogs. It’s not a chore, and I don’t try to wiggle my way out of doing it. It truly is the happiest time of my day. 30 minutes, every day, just being in the moment with my two favorite beings in the world. Two – eating what my body needs. Lots of fats, good fats. Think avocado, nuts, oily fish. Plenty of fresh veges in every colour of the rainbow. And little or no sugar. I’ve ditched the daily dessert, and made it a once-a week treat instead. Three - cheating, a little or a lot. Beach cover-ups are beautiful, allowing me to conceal those less-than-perfect parts of my body, with style. And of course a good spray tan appears to take 10 pounds off your body, and makes you feel a million bucks, so is my absolute feel-good essential. So rather than body shaming yourself into this season’s bikini, why not learn to love what your mama gave you just a little more, in all its perfect imperfections. Enjoy! xx ✤ GO: Keep up with Georgina at www.blondeinbahrain.com and on instagram @blondeinbahrain.
