FROM THE EDITOR

A Month of Love… and Hate? FEW days polarise public opinion as much as Valentine’s Day. Some people buy into it wholeheartedly, making elaborate and extravagant romantic gestures to their better halves, spending a fortune on flowers, gifts and dinners. Others reject it completely, outright refusing to acknowledge the event, and choosing instead to sit at home and watch a DVD, with a blanket ban on flowers, chocolates, or anything with a heart on it. I find that whichever camp you fall into depends entirely on your relationship status. Singletons pretend to reject the whole affair, but secretly wish they had someone to share it with, so they make elaborate displays of indifference to hide the fact! New couples, or couples facing relationship difficulties, tend to be the ones that go all out the most, as they’re the ones intent on proving to themselves and the world how amazing their relationship is, even though the opposite might be the truth. More stable and strong relationships seem to take it with a pinch of salt, as they don’t need one particular day to demonstrate

their love for each other – it’s a year round thing for them! However, in any given situation, there is one universal, undeniable, utterly infallible truth: No matter how indifferent a woman acts towards the day, no matter how much she says that flowers and gifts aren’t necessary, she will always, ALWAYS be happy if you surprise her with flowers, gifts and dinner! Always… So, gentlemen, resign yourselves to the fact that you will be spending money on February 14, and turn to our Valentine’s Day round-up on page 12. However, a word of warning: If you do happen to forget Valentine’s Day, you will undoubtedly find yourself being dragged round the mall, credit card in hand, with some serious making up to do! In fact, we have a strong feeling that if a wife sees this magazine before her husband does, she might just hide it, along with any other reminders of Valentine’s Day! After all, what’s one night of romance compared to a whole day’s unrestricted shopping?

aking place in tandem with a big Renault Carnival being hosted by Renault Dealership YK Almoayyed, the Renault Dares challenge will see three Renault models driven continuously around Bahrain for two days, completing challenges along the way. FACT magazine, or rather, Ali Driver, FACT’s Mystery Motoring Expert, is taking part in the challenge, piloting one of the Renaults (NOT the Clio Sport, which he’s quite miffed about!) around the Kingdom for the challenge! The Renaults will be decorated in the racing colours of the participating teams (or, more likely, whatever random paraphernalia they happen to find lying around the office at the time), and FACT is inviting its readers to spot us on the roads. During the endurance challenge, if

you spot one of the Renaults on their epic journeys round the country, take a photo of it and upload it on to the Renault Bahrain Facebook page, and you’ll be entered in a draw to win some fantastic prizes!

The Carnival

Renault are hosting a carnival at their Sitra Showroom this month, from February 5 to 11. There’ll be live entertainment, music, games, food, and some exclusive deals to be had on the cars themselves. The games stalls will feature things like Snakes & Ladder game boards, Ring Throw counters and Dart Boards that will keep both the youngsters as well as adults entertained. A DJ will perform live to spice up the atmosphere with the latest tunes, and children will be entertained by a balloon-twisting clown and a Magic

THE SCOPE

LOVE IT !

Damon Hill Supports Bahrain F1 GP

SO OBVIOUS!

KLUB360 Harassed Already

We thoroughly enjoyed the grand launch of KLUB360 at the Elite Crystal Hotel in Juffair last month. We’ve only waited a year for it… The venue was everything they claimed it would be – stylish, classy and sophisticated, and a fantastic addition to Bahrain’s nightlife scene. We were therefore miffed to hear about councillors attempting to close it down only a week after its opening for some trivial reason. However, we’re happy to see that KLUB360 have reacted promptly to these attempts, and it seems they’re now safe from the threat!

Air Raid Sirens

The recent testing of Bahrain’s national emergency warning system was met with a range of reactions: Blind terror (from people who don’t read the paper), irritation (mainly from people working close to one of the sirens) and even amusement (mainly from people watching at the ‘blind terror’ people panic). However, here at the FACT penthouse, all we could think was: If we heard the sirens in a REAL emergency, what exactly are we supposed to do?

CAN’T BELIEVE IT

Former British F1 Driver and World Champion Damon Hill has thrown his support behind the Bahrain Formula One race this year. He went on record stating that while the original concerns that drivers had about coming to Bahrain for the GP were valid, the Bahraini government has since taken monumental steps to address international concerns about human rights and civil unrest in the Kingdom, and that he sees no reason why the race should not go ahead in 2012. Go Damon!

HATE IT!

Zara’s Question of the Month:

R

Hallmark Shmallmark! What’s the Big Deal?

ight, so I Googled Valentine’s Day – one of the first things to come up was a page called “Anti Valentine’s Day”; I bookmarked it – definitely worth a position in the ‘favourites’ option! I wouldn’t say I am so much of a ‘let’s smash up all the flower shops and chocolate boutiques’ kind of extremist; but let’s just say the last place you will find me is gazing into my partner’s eyes, dribbling over a table covered with candles and sparkly plastic hearts telling him “Let’s just start with forever…” I think I take after my dad; a man who claims to hate this day with a passion but will secretly send my sister

10

and I a bouquet every year. Yes, it is extremely sweet and I love him for it, but I am a firm believer that one day of the year should not represent just how much someone means to you; shouldn’t that be every day? Perhaps that makes me a secret yet hopeless romantic. Perhaps an inner part of me is yearning to be whisked off on February 14th to some exotic island and be pampered head to toe and told how wonderful I am (yes, yes as I keep being told). If I were to follow the website’s recommendations, I would have to stage an “I Hate Valentine’s Day Party”, where I would be serving up broken heart shaped cookies, playing darts on

a poster of Romeo and Juliet and even smashing the hell out of a 3D heart piñata… So why don’t you do yourselves all a HUGE favour and NOT spend your monthly income on one day of smoochy-woochy rubbish… save it for your next holiday, a fun night out or even perhaps that diamond ring because trust me, that will be better than all the Valentine’s Days put together! As for me? Well the plan is to print off all the pictures of my exes and draw graffiti all over them… No, in all honesty, February 14th will be like any other normal day and no balloons, heart filled chocolates, roses or kisses are going to change that.

The Ideal Gifts for Valentine’s Day Read on for FACT’s guide to some of the best gift ideas for Valentine’s Day this February…

Watches

Another great gift idea for that special lady in your life is a good watch. Tag Heuer aren’t the traditional brand of choice for ladies’ watches, as they’re more well known for high-quality men’s watches instead. However, they’re changing all that with these amazing Formula 1 Lady Yin Yang Timepieces. The watch is fashioned with 136 grams of 18 carat white gold and has a unique yin-yang dial set with round brilliant diamonds: white diamonds for yin, black diamonds for yang. And as you can see, the end result is stunning!

Jewellery

When it comes to gifts for ladies, you simply can’t go wrong with jewellery. And when it comes to jewellery, you simply can’t go wrong with these specially crafted Valentine’s Day pieces from Pure Gold Jewellers. It’s a collection of heart-shaped pendants in diamonds, gold and silver created exclusively for Valentine’s Day. An example of true contemporary design, the pendants are wonderfully dramatic and make for uniquely aesthetic gifts. And at the end of the day, if your wife doesn’t like it, she can always go back and exchange it for something of equal value that she does like (yes, they do that!). GO: For contact details and store locations, log on to www.pugold.com.

A Romantic Night Away

A dinner is always a welcome treat on Valentine’s Day, but when combined with a full day and night of luxury, it becomes the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift! The Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa is offering a special Valentine’s Day package for one of their luxurious rooms, with a bottle of bubbly, flowers, room service breakfast and a late checkout time of 4pm, all for BD85++. Add to this a romantic dinner in La Mer and a day’s pampering in their newly opened spa, and some serious brownie points will be earned! GO: For bookings and information, call 1763 6363.

14

Amwaj Marina Market

Not the first thing that pops into your head when you think about shopping for a Valentine’s Day gift, but you might be surprised at some of the hidden gems you might find nestled in the stalls at this fantastic little bazaar. Aside from some excellent second-hand designer wear and accessories, you’ll also find handicrafts and jewellery made by local craftsmen, not to mention stands displaying excellent works of art and stunning photographic prints of some of the best views to be found in Bahrain. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, quirky or unique, then the Amwaj Marina Market might be just what you need! And aside from actually shopping, it’s a great day out for the family, with food, kids entertainment and face painting and other attractions making it fun for both adults and kids alike. GO: Amwaj Marine Market takes place on February 4, at Amwaj Marina. For information call 1603 0605.

Spa Treats

Time to Unwind

Give this… The Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel recently opened their luxurious Pure Spa. This new addition has 11 treatment rooms and a massive list of signature therapies created with natural products made from European herbs and Arab oils. The Spa focuses on mental, spiritual and physical harmony, so whether you have had a horrendous week at work, or an argument with your boss, this is one place which will guarantee to clear your mind. The one thing that makes this spa different is that you can go as a couple. Head to the Private Couples Spa Suite where you and your other half can choose from a selection of treatments to enjoy together. Whether you choose from the facials, manicures, pedicures, baths, massages, nothing says “I love you” more than getting an ultimate pampering treatment. So, go on, make the call and treat your lovely lady, or man (just don’t tell his friends he’s having a facial!) to this package. GO: For information or reservations, call 1717 0000, or log on to www.kempinski.com/bahrain.

Have this…. Dessange Spa already has a great reputation in Bahrain; the customers’ reviews are proof in themselves. Promising to always leave you utterly refreshed, happy and completely pampered, the Valentine’s package is one to get you feeling and looking the part, just in time for your big date. The offer starts with a Hydrotherapy bath that reactivates your circulation and energizes the skin, creating a full detox. Then you are given a Dermalogica Active Facial; the best thing about this is that your pores are left squeaky clean and your skin radiant, but not breaking out in the disastrous bad skin afterwards. Each Dermalogica product is specifically chosen by the technician according to your skin type. The hour is then topped off with a shoulder and neck massage. Next is some TLC for your tired feet and hands with a mani-pedi, followed by a scalp massage and special clay hair treatment. The icing on the cake for the pampering is a makeover, where you can request your look - natural, sexy, or even smouldering - to perfect your day of transformation. A happy body means a happy day. Let Dessange do all the preparation for you!

After a busy day, it’s time to unwind. Indulge yourself by sipping one of our signature beverages and enjoy another with compliments from Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre. Come and experience the finest hospitality from Sunday to Thursday between 5pm and 9pm.

In addition to this, there will be events happening throughout the month at the Bab Al Bahrain Square Pavillion, including workshops, lectures, open discussions, and an open screenings of movies related to architecture and Bahrain. One of the screenings to watch out for is Hamad and the Pirates, a 1971 Walt Disney movie filmed in Bahrain that not many people will have heard of! His recollection on the past and encounters on the present are addressed in colours, forms and techniques on a mirror-like chrome-plated ‘convex’ surface that makes someone who views the work pause for an openended, imaginative, and thoughtprovoking self-reflection. According to the artist, the permanent components of the artwork present various characteristics of a dialogue. “I express my feelings in the colours I use on forms and shapes based

on my recollection on the seasons in life that have passed; times of laughter and embrace, mourning and sorrow, success and failure,” says Rashid Al Khalifa of the new paintings. He says that, as he works, a conversation evolves and changes between himself as an artist and the artwork itself. Rashid goes on to describe his approach: “The spontaneous paint work on the chrome surface, inspired by women’s veils, laces and ‘mashrabia’, partly conceals the loci of society or life where we see fractions of ourselves - broken, buried, whole, empty, blurred and full - reminiscent of the paths we travelled to reach where we currently stand.”

NOTEWORTHY

Hope for the Best Prepare for the

Worst! These are unpredictable times in Bahrain. Though we’re all hoping for a more peaceful 2012, nobody can predict the future with any certainty. And while you can’t prevent some things happening, you can make sure that in the event of the unthinkable, you’re in the best position to bounce back with the minimum of fuss…

T

he ALDAR Insurance policy from bni isn’t just a good idea – it’s an essential safety measure to protect you from disaster! While some people might think that they don’t need to buy insurance, it’s not until a catastrophe strikes that you find out what a useful precaution it is. When your house is on fire, the assurance that you can have it all rebuilt and your personal possessions replaced make the monthly payments seem worthwhile!

“What a catastrophe! Our lovely home, I can’t believe this is happening! Our faithful housemaid Lia suffered from smoke inhalation when she ran through the house to warn us of the fire. I’m glad that she is covered by the insurance so that we can make sure she gets the absolute best medical treatment available in Bahrain! And I’m glad all my clothing was insured as well – I loved my wardrobe, and my jewellery! And thankfully, alternative accommodation costs are covered too, so that we have somewhere to live while this all gets sorted out and fixed...”

“Gee, I’m glad the TV and satellite dish was insured…”

USEFUL TIPS FROM BNI...

Declare the Valuable Stuff! You can insure contents on an unspecified basis for one total value but must specify all clothing, jewellery personal effects and other valuables which exceed the single article limit of BD250. Included in the definition of “Clothing and Personal Effects” are all items worn or carried for personal use such as jewellery, watches, binoculars, musical, photographic, video equipment, portable computers and mobile telecom equipment. “Valuables” include pictures or other works of art, rugs or carpets, articles of gold, silver or other precious metals.

Backup Online

One of the most devastating material losses through a natural disaster or house fire can be the family albums and home movies. These are often irreplaceable, and many years of happy memories can be destroyed overnight. It’s therefore a wise move to back them up. Most digital studios can convert even old photographs, slides and videos into digital format, and if the images were taken recently, they were most likely taken on a digital camera and are stored on a hard drive anyway. Once all your photos are in digital format, consider storing them online. There are loads of online storage services available, many offering a significant amount of storage space for free. You can even scan important documents and keep the copies online too!

Fireproof safe

There are some documents which are hugely important and sometimes very difficult to replace – birth certificates, wills, property deeds, and so on. Therefore, consider investing in a fireproof safe to keep them in. These are relatively cheap, and will protect not just from fire, but from burglaries and natural disasters too. You can also keep jewellery, passports and other valuables in them. It will seem like a sound investment when you sift through the remains of your house and find all these items under the rubble, untouched and intact, ready to help you start rebuilding your life again. DON’T MISS...

Catering to Your Every Desire…

Bahrain’s favourite beach club is expanding its horizons – not just content with providing the ideal place to chill by the pool or on the beach, enjoy watersports, eat great food and party, Coral Bay now export their talents to wherever you want the party to be…

P

robably one of, if not our favourite pastimes, eating is a necessity in life; eating well on the other hand is an added blessing. This year, Coral Bay is leaving you almost spoilt for choice, but the choice is now there for the taking. This is because Coral Bay have now introduced a new catering service which can provide the festive fare for practically any event, any amount of people and any type of food – all you have to do is give 48 hours notice and they’ll do the rest! So, what kind of party are you planning? A simple gathering of friends and family? An office outing, or perhaps an OTT wedding? Let’s start with Rayes Restaurant & Lounge. This is your quintessential Lebanese/Arabic themed restaurant with all the classic and favourite dishes, although there is the option of some pasta and sweet desserts,

20

and the live cooking station can impressively knock together some beef medallions or mixed grill in no time. Plus, no one can resist a couple of shawarmas either, so you can even book your own live stand and munch the beef or chicken snacks to your heart’s content. All of this is available for just BD15 per person, with a minimum order for 50 people. Now for more of a finger food party – let’s say you were throwing a cocktail party for a birthday or anniversary, in which case the canapé menu is the perfect choice for you. The Karma Café Lounge’s head chef has compiled a large selection of hot, cold and sweet nibbles to suit your event’s theme. All canapés are sold in portions of 24 and are available for both in-house and outside catering. Yummy delights like mini quiches, breaded shrimp and chicken skewers are just a few examples of what could be on offer.

The small bites can even be used for corporate lunches, where mini rolls and cakes can be prepared – everyone needs to show off to the boss sometimes, right? And we all know how it feels when the last thing you want to do is slog away in that kitchen of yours, so Karma has a solution for you. You can even order enough cake for 100 hungry mouths, but with things like chocolate expresso cake, blueberry swirl baked cheesecake and white chocolate fudge cake with jelly beans on the menu, don’t expect it to last long! The cakes need five days notice and can be ordered by emailing admin@coral-bay.net or calling 1731 2700. For those of you with kids, you know by now that a swimming pool, music, sunshine and sweet food is the perfect combo for throwing the ultimate children’s party. Nowhere in Bahrain

Batelco’s Green Drive Every year Batelco makes a conscience effort to push themselves that little bit further to reduce its dent in our precious ozone layer. Last year saw massive progress in the company, where new initiatives were introduced to help their green mission succeed. First saw the water treatment plant that was placed in the Hamala headquarters, which can hold a capacity of 3000 m3 per month. The plant is designed to re-use water waste for the irrigation of the Hamala campus gardens. Batelco has also given the goahead for a new project to replace all windows with double-glazing and the tinted effect. All walls and roofs are being insulated with heat insulation materials to help support

24

the efficiency of the company’s heating and cooling systems. The company has also installed low consumption air conditioning units to a number of its buildings. The chillers at the Salmaniya complex have all been replaced with R-134a ozone-friendly refrigerants. Back in 2010, Batelco’s “saving paper…saving trees” campaign really took off. With the introduction of e-billing, a method which has proven to have considerable results, customers are now relying on the trusty internet to pay those phone bills. And think of the ink that they

are saving? Any cartridges that do get used are being properly recycled (yes this is possible!). All the offices have also changed their internal communications systems so everything is done by e-mails and e-slips! Batelco should really be a green role model; acting as one of the largest phone and internet providers on the island, businesses should take note. All it takes is a little push.

New Initiatives Set by WFES

Abu Dhabi played host to the World Future Energy Summit this year. His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, returned to the summit to launch the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Three new objectives have been set, all in the hope of being reached by 2030; they include ensuring universal access to modern energy services, doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. As complicated as these objectives may sound, the aim is to “bring forth serious commitments,” according to the Secretary General. One of the main issues is the lack of global access to energy,

often overlooked in the issue of poverty. According to the United Nations, more than 1.4 billion people worldwide have no access to electricity; more than 3 billion people rely on traditional biomass for cooking and heating and up to a billion more only have access to unreliable electricity networks. Over the past year, the UAE has made considerable changes to the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The portfolio has improved dramatically but there is still a huge gap for change. And change MUST happen. More than 26,000 people attended this year’s Summit, including 3,000 delegates, 650 exhibiting companies and 20 national pavilions. FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY

Bahrain’s Eco Warrior

Jameela’s A-Z of how you can help:

Perhaps the most discouraging factor for an environmentalist is the constant strain of trying to encourage others to join forces with you. Bahrainbased eco-warrior Jameela Al Mohanna tells us the ins and outs of Bahrain’s “green status”.

F: Can you update us on any new projects since last year? JM: It is clear that the green awareness has become more active, however most of it is talk and no action. There are a number of supposed projects to come into play; experts are proposing the construction of a new island off Manama’s coast that harnesses renewable energy as well as providing an offshore business centre to house residential and commercial property. The government is also ‘considering’ introducing green building specifications in construction; a

customary worldwide policy but not obligatory in Bahrain. The Kingdom is also considering establishing an agency dedicated to renewable energy and conservation, spurred by the United Nations Development Programme. F: What else should really be done? JM: What we really need is to sort out the rubbish and recycling situation. We need a container for every three houses and some recycling bins in each neighbourhood. Just look at the Emirates they have dedicated time and effort

to permanently resolving these problems. I attended the first Bahrain Waste Management Forum in November and it just further revealed that Recycling for Charity are not doing their job as agreed. Rubbish fines should be enforced. Community street cleans should be mandatory. Something else is always more important - well one day it will be too late! GO: To find out how you can do your part, log on to www.recyclepointsbh.com, or email Jameela at recyclepointsbh@gmail. com.

Jameela’s A-Z of how you can help: A: Air-conditioning should be limited. Do you really need it at 16 degrees? B: Buy local products. It is all seasonal and fresh. C: Carpool school runs and shopping trips. Not everyone needs to drive. Even better, buy a hybrid car! D: Divide your rubbish. Keep scrap paper and use the bins provided for glass and cans. E: Electronic devices should be sleeping when you are or when not in use. F: Feeding feral animals only makes them human dependant. It may be sad to see them in their terrible conditions but helping one once can lead to thousands of litters. G: Grow indigenous trees in your garden and community. H: Help teach others the importance of our environment. I: Invest in reusable bags. Plastic bags kill wildlife and are terrible for the planet. J: Jump at every chance to do your bit. If you see rubbish, it’s not going to hurt to pick it up. K: Keep your rubbish in your car and wait till you get home when you

26

have a bin nearby. L: Leaks should be fixed immediately. Thousands of litres of water are wasted per week because we are too lazy to get them sorted. M: Make use of the beautiful sunshine. Do you really need to use your dryer when it’s so warm outside? N: No more cling-film. Go and buy some reusable plastic containers for food. O: Opt out of buying shower products. Did you know sugar and coffee grains are amazing exfoliators? P: Printer cartridges are recyclable. Check out my website for more information. Q: Question your motives. Remember your tap doesn’t need to run constantly while you brush your teeth or wash your hands. R: Replace paper cups, plates and napkins with washable, reusable cups for parties and events. S: Save water. Do you really need to water your garden three times a day and bath every night? T: Tell someone off. Trash bins are there for rubbish; roads are there to be driven on. U: Understand the importance of saving the environment. If you don’t

know why you should be doing it then find out why. V: Veto all unnecessary waste. Don’t let them give you 20 plastic bags when you go shopping. Does shampoo really needs its own bag? W: Windows should be doublepaned, not single. The heat and the cool are kept in when necessary. X: X-terminate insects with ecofriendly bug sprays that don’t damage the ozone layer or release toxins into the environment. Y: You are the way forward to saving your world. It is up to you to teach the younger generation what needs to be done. Z: Zzzzzz should only be enjoyed when you know you have done one thing to help. Stop being lazy. Stop your family and friends from being lazy.

Zain’s e-waste campaign a success Zain’s pioneering e-waste proves a huge success, with the number of mobile phones collected now nearing a thousand… Showing a true dedication to saving the world, Zain has proven that the people of Bahrain are getting more passionate to rescue their planet from its current crisis, especially if they have the right initiatives like this one from Zain. The company launched Bahrain’s first-ever Zain National Mobile Phone and e-Waste Recycling Campaign and has already collected around one thousand old, unusable and broken handsets. Zain’s Corporate Communications Manager Samaya Hussein said “We were confident that the campaign will answer a long-felt need among Bahrain mobile phone users who want to go green – and our belief has been proven right.” She also highlighted that, “Responsible e-waste disposal of handsets, mobile phone batteries and other accessories is one of our key CSR initiatives in 2011 and WITH over 300 unusable handsets discarded in our ‘green boxes’, we believe that we have answered an important need in the community.” So any of you who have old phones that have given up on you, then drop them into any of the special drop-boxes in the 11 Zain Experience shops. Zain has engaged Enviroserve, a respected environmental waste disposal company, to help dispose of the e-waste in a professional manner. There is a hidden incentive though. Everyone who drops off their wasted handsets gets entered into a draw to win a new one and many winners have already been rewarded with the Blackberry Torch phone. E-waste is growing at a scary rate of 3 times faster than any other type of waste; what’s worse is that it is the most dangerous form of waste. Broken phones thrown into normal waste destroy our natural habitat with acids; make a change and give it to the people who want your rubbish! FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY Feb issue.indd 27

Advice Trom The Top Everyone needs some assurance, and with the ‘green’ status of Bahrain in question, FACT talks to Rehan Ahmed, the Directorate of Environmental Control, Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife in Bahrain.

F: How would you sum up the ‘green’ status in Bahrain? RA: Green status is not an award or title given by any international agency but more the consideration people have towards what is happening in day-to-day life. There are currently adequate environmental legislations in the country and the presence of a dedicated Public Commission means that there is a monitoring system for all new and operating industries and developments. All chemicals entering and being used in Bahrain are registered as well as many hazardous chemicals being restricted and others banned. Solid waste is appropriately stored, collected and disposed of. Water and air quality is being monitored around the clock at five separate locations within the country. Generated waste water is treated, recycled and re-used. Existing industries are being regularly and randomly inspected for their environmental compliance. All these activities lead to enhancing the green image of the country. Besides this, environmentally friendly technologies, processes and products are propagated and people are motivated to participate in green activities. F: Since last year, how has the situation improved? RA: Time wise the situation cannot be quantified or evaluated numerically, but the awareness on the island has been enhanced and increased amongst the masses. Media is certainly playing an important role by reaching all segments of society. F: Do you feel people are doing enough to help? RA: In my humble opinion, people are gradually learning and are aware of the green thinking. They are participating in the various

28

daily tasks but on average it isn’t enough. People need to do more and support the government in reducing the environmental impacts. Fuel, water and electricity consumption needs to be reduced; availability and affordability does not have to mean over-use and wastage. F: What ideas do you have in mind to help improve the current environmental situation? RA: I think everyone needs to start making more of an effort. Money can only change this to a certain extent; what we really need is a change in our attitudes and behaviour. One of the main problems is litter; as well as causing health problems, it is an eyesore and a truly disgusting form of pollution. What people may not know is that an average waste collector walks over 4km a day to collect litter within his jurisdiction. Just think, if you drop a piece of litter, be it a cigarette end, plastic bag or piece of tissue, it can either be mistaken for food by animals or travel into our waterways, thus polluting our safe water. Funnily enough, older people litter more than the younger generation, so it is up to everyone to educate each other. F: What needs to change in Bahrain NOW? RA: There are three main issues that need to be resolved. Firstly we need to minimize electricity use. Wellplanned management of our light usage can reduce electricity up to eight times and even increasing your AC thermostat by just one degree can save around 4% of energy use. Water needs to be saved. A leaking toilet can waste as much as 200 litres per day - the equivalent of flushing it 50 times! Take a shower rather than a bath and don’t water your plants during midday, less water is lost through evaporation if you water them first thing in the morning or last thing at night.

The three R’s (Reduce, reuse, recycle) should apply to EVERYTHING! Everyone knows what they mean so it’s about time they were put to use. F: What are your hopes for the future? RA: William Ruckelshaus once said “Nature provides a free lunch, but only if we control our appetites”. I am very hopeful for our coming generation, who seem to be more enthusiastic and energetic than ours. Because of better communication links, we have better options and choices to addressing pollution. You must be the change you wish to see in the world. So start with yourself first. Let us put common sense into practice. Each of us can make a difference. Let us start from today as tomorrow will be too late.

Biotech Breakthrough Every so often there are incredible breakthroughs in the eco world; Dr Usif Murad tells FACT about Green GeoEarth and its flagship product Geo Revive, and how things really can change…

Green GeoEarth is a leading biotechnology company whose prime mission is to “restore our mother earth so she can sustain herself for feeding the world”. With its plant based in Sitra’s Industrial Area, the company has spent years investigating methods to come up with a concept that could transform our way of life. Their answer? A product they have called Geo Revive. Geo Revive is a multi-ingredient bio-nutrient, water retention and growth-energising compound, formulated to effectively revive degraded soil, invigorate the growth of plants and intensify crop yields, under any soil and climatic condition. The results of this product are phenomenal; it means that farmers can grow any crop, any season, anywhere (including the desert!), with drastically less water and NO fertilizer. The creation basically restores degraded soil in arid and semiarid regions of the world into lush farmlands by richly nourishing, desalinating, oxygenating and conditioning the soil. The soil is therefore left in its natural condition and the plant’s growth can thrive and their fruition cycle can accelerate. Originally invented 25 years ago by Manfred Schuermann after intensive research and development

Water Consumption

in Germany, Geo Revive was then taken to California where a capital firm perfected it to its present stage. Having been validated by the industry and regulatory authorities in Europe and the GCC, this incredible new creation is being launched in the US and Asia Pacific as part of its technology commercialisation and operations scaling. So what can we expect? Well Geo Revive is the ONLY eco-friendly answer to the world’s alarming water shortage and desertification trend. Not only does it enable governmental and corporate farmers to embark on strategic food and pharmaceutical programs with no agrichemicals or genetic engineering, it helps to sustain our delicate ecosystem. This revolutionary product is manufactured in Bahrain and shipped to customers worldwide, therefore proudly positioning the Kingdom and nation of Bahrain at the forefront of the world’s agriculture and biotechnology industry - a market size of over $2.2 trillion. Geo Revive is also non-toxic and has been proven to be completely harmless to plants, humans and animals, thus making it safe to use in homes and farms. It is applied only

once in a tree’s life and it totally biodegrades over eight years, eliminating the need for a second application as the treated plants will in the process reach their maximum growth and fruition. The best thing about this breakthrough is that it is available to anyone. Whether it is needed for a landscape or farming project, there is no need for any special soil or fertilizers and pesticides; in the long run you can save considerable FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY amounts of time, 90% of water and, of course, simultaneously sustain Mother Earth. Green GeoEarth is always pushing to get their product out into the market and also teach others about its significant advantages. It is currently organising a collaborative effort with farming and financial industry conglomerates in the US, including NGOs, NPOs and the World Bank for developing food security programs in both developed and developing countries.

Bahrain’s Emerging Talent The art status is Bahrain is best described as a hidden yet emerging treasure chest full of artists waiting to be discovered. More artists are appearing out of the woodwork; Zara de Haldevang talks to Faiza Saeed, Bahrain’s first mosaic design artist, about her work.

F

or every artist, the most rewarding factor is recognition and appreciation. Like many of the arts, especially in the sectors of creative writing, painting and design, each judgment is very subjective; it is then, no doubt, that a huge sense of achievement and pride is felt when work is appreciated for what it truly is. Obai & Hill is an agency which primarily focuses on the European and Middle East market, where its mission is to provide its clients with creative and innovative designs that will bring young designers into a new light. Founded by Wafa Al Obaidat, whose aim was to “bridge the gap between young and innovative artists and their potential clients”, the agency prides itself in discovering true and original talent: and an example of this came in the form of Faiza Saeed. Having recently caught the agency’s attention, Faiza’s story has been one that has taken years of hard work, determination and, most importantly, infallible passion. Back in 2008, Faiza first saw the art of mosaics while on a visit to the Tate Museum in London. After extensive reading and taking part in numerous workshops, she introduced the idea to Bahrain.

34

The artist’s artistic role model? Emma Biggs. According to Faiza she is “one of the leading ladies in mosaic in London and a pioneer in this field.” Mrs Saeed continued to attend several workshops with Emma, as well as exploring different dimensions of the skill in Italy and Turkey. “Working with Emma was a wonderful experience as she showed me how to take the art of mosaic a step further, and that this art is not just putting pieces together but also a form of meditation to heal the soul.” But was it smooth sailing all the way? “There were some barriers I had to face, the tools were not easy to find, and it was hard to find artists in Bahrain who were in the same field of mosaic. Also, the awareness of this particular art was still new to them and not a lot of people could relate to it.” The art world naturally differs in each country, but one of the main problems Faiza still faces here is the lack of resources. “In the UK there are a lot of libraries, all of which contain so many books of the art of mosaic. There are also a huge volume of workshops, where a large number of people are interested in the art. In the Middle East, there are no schools that teach this topic, and there are also

no books in Arabic that provide any information.” Bahrain’s current situation for artists is one that requires a great deal more attention. Faiza described it as “slow moving but lacking a solid structure for artists.” So what is wrong on the island? “I feel there is no encouragement for the new talents who cannot afford to open a studio. There should be more galleries and officials should consider opening a contemporary museum to show their support for new artists. Unfortunately, when new artists don’t get the support they deserve, they dilute. It is such a shame because Bahrain has so much heritage and talent that should be recognized.” Faiza’s work, on the other hand, is fortunately a story of success. After Obai & Hill saw the clear “messages of love, freedom and harmony in her pieces”, Faiza has pushed herself to succeed even further. As well as being a mother and an artist, she has a full-time job in a bank and holds workshops to train other aspiring artists. “What I aim to achieve from my work is to spread awareness and encourage others to be part of it. Mosaic is not just an art; it is a type of meditation that can relax anyone who will try it. My vision is to see every empty wall and every empty corner full of mosaic pieces.” With each of her pieces taking no less than 150 hours to complete, Faiza is a role model for those who have the talent, yet have never taken the risk to pursue their passion.

NEW BAHRAIN “NATURAL BAHRAIN” PHOTOGRA PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION COMPETIT THIS month heralds the return of FACT’s National Photography Competition. Now in it’s third year, the competition has uncovered some incredible undiscovered photography talent since its first year. In tandem with our ‘Big Green Issue’ this month, the theme for the competition this year is ‘Natural Bahrain’, and seeks to highlight Bahrain’s environment, and the challenges it is facing in a modern world. It aims to encourage photographers to go out and discover whatever is left of Bahrain’s natural beauty, wherever it may be, from farms in Janabiya to the emerald seas surrounding the Kingdom to the deserts of Sakhir. Plantlife, wildlife and marine life can all be featured, as long as it’s an essential part of nature. Also welcomed are images that show the enroachment of human development on Bahrain’s environment, with juxtapositions of man-made objects and nature’s efforts to survive alongside them. The picture you see here is the winning picture from last year’s competition, themed “Unseen Bahrain”, which sought to showcase the lesser-known side of Bahrain. The image, taken by Reem Tawfiqi, captured this perfectly. While everyone living in Bahrain has seen its skyline, few have seen it in this context, with the barren desert scene contrasting with the distant development in the background, creating an almost dystopian feeling within the viewer. It is this kind of originality and experimentation we’re looking for once again in this year’s competition. Good luck, and happy snapping!

Wasting Light

The Foo Fighters: wholesome, and yet bad-ass at the same time, which is impressive...

By Foo Fighters WHAT’S IT LIKE:

Wasting Light is the seventh studio album from the nice guys of hard rock, the Foo Fighters, a band that has now been going for over 17 years (WOW, has it really been that long?!!) and are showing no signs of slowing down. ‘I Should Have Known’ is a highlight of the album, with a deceptively gentle ballad building into a rousing climax, whereas ‘White Limo’ is a deliciously visceral assault on the senses that is going to whip the festival crowds into a complete frenzy. The video for ‘White Limo’ is great too - a simple, low budget affair featuring the band joyriding in a retro white limo piloted by the legendary Lemmy, from Motorhead, showing that the band can still mess around and have a good time without taking themselves too seriously. Some of Wasting Light is just more of the same from the Foo Fighters, which is no bad thing as their signature sound is what has earned them their legion of followers. However, the album is peppered with gems which show that the band, seven albums in, is still capable of being fresh, innovative and surprising, which is what makes them one of the current greats of the rock world.

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

What many of you might not know is that this is actually LMFAO’s second studio album. The first, Party Rock, was released back in 2008, and generated a lot of interest within the US. However, it wasn’t until this album, and the release of the first single, ‘Party Rock Anthem’, that the group went global in a massive way, storming charts across the world with ‘Party Rock Anthem’ and the two follow up singles, ‘Champagne Showers’ and ‘Sexy And I Know It’. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, LMFAO are a gimmick band, but one that is taking over in a huge way. Their songs are instantly likeable, with uplifting electro pop synths layered over pounding techno beats in a combination that draws you to the dance floor like some kind of weird hypnotic mind control, which is what makes the video for ‘Party Rock Anthem’ so appropriate.

By Incubus

By LMFAO.

If Not Now, When is the latest album from Californian alternative rockers Incubus, a band that has now been going for two decades! However, rather than showing a maturity with this latest album, the band seem to have taken a step backwards. Incubus used to be experimental, avantgarde, left-field... Their material was highly original and unique, and that’s how they made their name. With this album they seem to have given up, resorting to pandering to mainstream demands to produce an album that is bland at best, and downright boring at worst. Some respite does come with songs like ‘Switchblade’, which shows some of the band’s old originality, and yet still fails to pack a real punch. When you reach the end of the album, you’ll find that all you can do is ask yourself the question: What the hell happened?!!

C

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

Wow... Ok, where to start... If there was one word to sum up this album, it would be experimental with a capital ‘E’. This is such a departure from what is considered the norm for Metallica that it seriously runs the risk of alienating their fans. However, as an experimental work, it shows a level of genuis and creativity that you’d expect from a collaboration between such accomplished artists. In some places, Lou Reed’s vocals sit badly on the Metallica instrumentals, like someone at an open mike poetry night reciting verse whilst someone plays a Metallica CD in the background. In other places, the symbiosis between the music and the vocals is much more fluid, in tracks like ‘Iced Honey’. ‘Junior Dad’ is an orchestral epic of a track (lasting a staggering 19 minutes!) that really showcases the creative flair of all involved.

TOP FILMS SHOWING THIS MONTH IN BAHRAIN

ON SCREEN

The important question is really which name first pops into your head when you look at this picture: Daniel Radcliffe, or Harry Potter? If it’s the latter, he’s screwed...

The Woman in Black D: James Watkins C: Daniel Radcliffe, Janet McTeer, Ciarán Hinds, Roger Allam

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

A young lawyer is sent from London to a dreary town in rural England to settle the estate of a deceased woman, Alice Drablow. However, he incurs the hostility of the local villagers, who inexplicably hide their children away, and when he stays the night in the Drablow family home, he ends up facing a lot more than a mountain of legal paperwork...

WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING:

This is a HUGELY important role for exHarry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, as he’ll be seeking to shrug off the boy wizard mantle and establish his post-Potter credentials, which will be no small feat for an actor who played the role for ten years! This is his first time on the big screen since Potter, though he has done a fair amount of stage work in the meantime, honing his acting chops for a big career move. However, all signs point to it being a successful transition. The movie itself looks

well directed – the cinematography, the mise en scene, the style and tone is all deliciously creepy, and Radcliffe himself looks to have matured significantly since wrapping his last Potter movie. This could be a real breakout movie for Radcliffe, and so you know he’s going to act the absolute hell out of it, and this will hopefully translate into some good viewing. A good supporting cast in the shape of Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer and Roger Allaem lends weight.

His Daniel Radcliffe impression was lacking...

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

A ‘found-footage’ style movie, in the vein of Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity, this follows the lives of three highschool friends who make a strange discovery in a crater, and suddenly find themselves blessed with superhuman powers like telekinesis, invulnerability and flight, and begin to experiment with them.

WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING:

It’s worth watching mainly because, when newly endowed with these superpowers, instead of embarking on a noble quest to save mankind from bad guys, these high-school boys instead embark on an epic mission of mischief, playing devious pranks on the unsuspecting public and generally messing about, which makes a refreshing change! However, what we’re REALLY looking forward to is when they start to become intoxicated with the powers, and things start to go awry. Add the twist of the ‘found-footage’ style, and you’ve got what looks to be a highly unique release. Woody Harrelson from goofy bar regular to psychopathic serial killer to bitter old cop one hell of a journey!

The Innkeepers

is yet another spookfest for February, with two paranormal researchers investigating the story of a haunting in an old guest house. Their investigation turns up zilch, until two old residents arrive who have some connection to the haunting’s background. The appearance of the spooky old people really gets things going, and it’s all ghosts ahead from there on in!

The basement. Why do they always go in the basement? It’s the LAST place we’d go...

Rampart

D: Oren Moverman C: Woody Harrelson, Ben Foster, Sigourney Weaver, Robin Wright

Wanderlust is the story of a New York married couple who are both made redundant, and have to leave the Big Apple. Whilst looking for a new place to call home, they stumble across a hippy commune. Initiallly uncomfortable with the free-living habits of the commune’s residents, they eventually begin to like it, and free love and psychedelia ensues... They didn’t get it on in ‘Friends’, so they do it here instead!

WHAT’S IT ABOUT: Rampart

follows the story of an LAPD police officer, Dave Brown, who is implicated in the massive Rampart police corruption scandal involving the anti-gang CRASH unit in the late 1990s. His career all but ruined, Dave must face the bad decisions he has made during his career and live with the public shame of being involved in the scandal.

WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING: The Rampart scandal was one of the most shocking events of the 1990s in America, with many questioning how such widespread corruption could be allowed to take place in an American police force, so it’s surprising that it’s not until now that the subject has been visited by Hollywood. It’s also been a while since we’ve seen something good from Woody Harrelson, so the combination should be exciting! FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY Feb issue.indd 41

CHOICE WORDS

In Association with Virgin Megastore, Bahrain City Center

Semi-autobiographical

Aleph

By Paulo Coelho WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

Aleph loosely follows the story of a journey of self-discovery by Coelho himself, when he decides that his life is too stagnant, and that he needs to get on the move. So, he decides to take the Trans-Siberian railroad route from Moscow to Vladivostok, with a parallel mystical journey taking place alongside it. He is joined on the journey by a mysterious young woman named Hilal, a violin virtuoso who appears one day and announces that she will be accompanying him. She won’t take no for an answer, so off they go together. However, as the journey, both literal and spiritual, progresses, their bond becomes more complicated than either expect.

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

The complicated genre description of this book alludes to the fact that, while not literally autobiographical, it is in fact closely based on one of Coelho’s own spiritual journeys of self-discovery, and everything in it references revelations that he himself has experienced. As you’d expect from Coelho, the book is full of philosophical rhetoric, with phrases such as “Life is the train, not the station” peppering the prose, and giving the book a truly spiritual element that some will love, and others will find tedious. AHowever, what can be said is that the book is a journey in itself!

The Company We Keep

The Litigators

Screw Business As Usual

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

By Robert & Dayna Baer

The Company We Keep follows the true stories of two CIA agents who enter into a life of spying and intrigue because of a craving for excitement and danger in their lives. However, what they find out is that in order to successfully follow their covert careers, they must make a lot of sacrifices, most notably at home with their families. The book charts the toll that all the secrets and lies take on their family lives, which eventually disintegrate, but also how they discover each other, fall in love, and eventually find a life together thanks to shared experience and life choices.

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

This is an extremely interesting book for anyone interested in the real world of spying and covert government work, and not the dramatised Hollywood schlock. It’s a sad story of deceit, secrets, cynicism and disillusionment, as both agents start to question what good their work is really doing. However, it’s also a story of hope, when the two find each other and something good comes out of it all for both of them in the end. Most notably, it’s a warning to anyone thinking B+ about choosing this life for themselves.

by John Grisham

Overworked and disillusioned, Harvard graduate and corporate lawyer David Zinc walks out of his firm one day, and decides to get drunk. As a result, he finds himself working instead for the insalubrious law firm Finley & Figg, a two-man show of despicable ambulance chasers trying to build a classaction suit against a pharmaceuticals giant.

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

John Grisham is renowned for his legal novels - he’s churned out 23 of them so far, some good, some great. However, just when you thought he was becoming formulaic, he comes up with this little gem. Gone is the theme of the lone small-time lawyer crusading against social injustice. Gone is the evil corporate conspiracy exposed by conscientious young upstart lawyer. Instead, we have a beleaguered young Harvard law graduate providing the morals purely to emphasise the deliciously amoral and sleazy aspects of the book’s two best characters, Finley and Figg. Chock full of dark humour and a tangible hedonistic glee, the litigators sees Grisham really B+ work his sense of mischief, to great effect!

By Richard Branson

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

Another book by the eccentric British billionnaire chronicling his many projects, escapades and adventures, all the while coming across various celebrities and historical figures along the way. It starts with him standing naked outside Necker Island next to Kate Winslet watching the main house burn after it was struck by lightning, and carries on in much the same way throughout.

WHAT’S IT LIKE:

When reading any book by Richard Branson, you can’t help but become infected by his almost childlike enthusiasm for any project he approaches. It’s this unfailing optimism and absolute refusal to accept defeat that is largely responsible for his financial success. However, while the anecdotes are interesting and the book is generally an entertaining read, after a while you do start to become a little bit tired of his constant self-celebration and namedropping. Yes, Sir Richard, we know you’re great, we know you’ve met a lot of famous people and we know that you’re a billionnaire, C+ but a little humility really wouldn’t go amiss... FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY

An Eco Friendly Tech Fest! When it comes to saving the planet, it’s the little things that count – because collectively, a million people’s small decisions can make a big impact. So, making the right choices when buying electronics can make the difference. Read on for FACT’s guide to the best green technology…

Sony Bravia KDL-46HX923 TV

This rather attractive piece boasts a lot more than eye-catching design and great features. This Sony Bravia 3D LED TV is also on the recommended list of eco-friendly electronics of the UK Energy Saving Trust. It works with highly capable active shutter glasses that keep light out and reduce flicker. You can also make free video and voice calls with Skype and use other online applications through the web-enabled TV. However, if you can’t afford this particular TV, not to worry; most of the Sony Bravia range are also on the Energy Saving Trusts list, and remember one rule that applies – in general the smaller the TV, the more eco-friendly it is, as it uses less materials to produce and consumes less energy.

LED Lights

Last year, we profiled the compact CFL bulb as the light of choice for the green-conscious person, but now it seems that LED lighting is set to take over. LEDs have been around for years, but it’s not until now that the technology is starting to become efficient, cheap and bright enough for widespread commercial use. We’re starting to see them become widespread in things like spotlighting and torches, as well as on car headlamps. Unlike CFLs, they contain no mercury or other toxic substances. Proponents say LEDs can last some 60 times longer than incandescents and 10 times longer than CFLs. And unlike incandescents, which generate a lot of waste heat, LEDs don’t get especially hot and use a much higher percentage of electricity for directly generating light.

Casio Protrek Watches The one main feature that makes Protrek watches eco-friendly is the CASIO-original high-capacity solar power system, which combines a super-sensitive solar panel that generates power even under low fluorescent light with a high-capacity rechargeable battery that operates the various high-load functions with ease. This ensures that Tough Solar watches never need a battery change. This is in addition to a range of great features like barometer and thermometer designed for an outdoor active lifestyle.

Green Laptops…

The following are four of the greenest laptops available on the market, according to eco-blog www.playgreen.typepad.com.

HP Elitebook 2540p

Produced under HP’s Design for Environment programme, the Elitebook is designed with three principles in mind: Energy efficiency – reducing the energy used in manufacturing and use; Materials innovation – reducing the amount of materials used in the products and the environmental impact, and finally; Design for recyclability.

Acer TravelMate

The TravelMate Series runs on a quick and energy-efficient processor, while integrated graphics help you make impressive business presentations. ENERGY STAR® compliant, this notebook features energy-smart technologies that reduce power consumption.

MacBook Air As a general rule of thumb, the smaller and more compact a device is, the less materials and energy was required to produce it, and the less energy it uses. Therefore, the ultra-slim and compact MacBook Air is eco-friendly by virtue of it’s very size. However, other energy-saving features add to this.

Apple iPad

As with the MacBook Air, being minimal in terms of peripheral devices like CD drives and USB ports, and being very slim and compact, the Apple iPad requires less materials and energy to be produced, and less energy to run. So, Angry Birds are, in fact, good for the environment…

ShowGizmo

Trade shows and exhibitions are one of the worst-performing industries in terms of environmental impact, as they often generate hundreds of tonnes of paper waste each year. Media packs, show programmes, brochures and more are all produced, wasting paper, and the production and transport of the materials consumes a lot of energy too. Doing it all electronically has huge benefits, which is where ShowGizmo. Creating e-campaigns for shows and expos is no new thing, but this is the first fully-online downloadable and fully-customizable application that is designed specifically for such events. Available on iPhone, Blackberry and Android, it can be tailored to each individual event’s requirements, and can incorporate practically any aspect of the event right into your smartphone. The event’s programme and brochure can be included, as well as the brochures and links for all the expo’s participants and sponsors. Everyone’s a winner here – printing and transportation costs are reduced, and visitors to the expo don’t have to walk around carrying lots of bulky and heavy printed material, which is often thrown away after the event anyway! The application can even be used to swap contact details, reducing the need for business cards, and making it easier to update contact databases electronically. SOUNDBLASTER RECON3D/TACTIC3D OMEGA WIRELESS BUNDLE Major electronics outlets (Price: varies)

CREATIVE Labs are making a move in the gaming audio segment in a big way with a range of very high quality Sound Blaster microphone/headphone units that boast industry-leading 3D audio capability. The most impressive of these, in our humble opinion, is the Sound Blaster Tactic3D Omega Wireless, which comes bundled with the Sound Blaster Recon3D Omega Wireless device and the TacticLink wireless card for a cross-platform wireless audio experience. Confused? So were we, so let’s break it down: The Recon3D Omega Wireless is a cross-platform USB device that enhances the audio playback for gaming through the industry-leading THX TruStudio Pro software. Plug it in to the USB port on your Xbox 360, PS3, PC or Mac, and it will create a full 5.1 surround sound experience with exceptional positional audio playback through your headset with any game you’re playing. You can literally hear exactly where gunshots or explosions are coming from in relation to your in-game position. However, to get the optimal effect,

you have to pair it with the Tactic3D Omega Wireless headset (through the TacticLink wireless card) to get a full cable-free 3D surround sound gaming experience. The headset also boasts a detachable noise-cancelling microphone, so that you can communicate with other gamers without heavy breathing noises and other background sounds. And the volume, mute and connection controls are all integrated into the headset itself, so there are no cumbersome attachments or cables of any kind. This set-up is great. With in-game car racing, you can literally hear another car pass alongside you, and tell how close it is. In games like Modern Warfare, you can pinpoint

almost exactly where enemy gunfire is coming from. However, a word of warning! They don’t work so well with the Xbox 360 – with the Xbox 360 Slim you can’t connect the headphones and the HDMI cable at the same time, and with the standard Xbox 360 a separate cable is required, making them not completely wireless. Also, the THX TruStudio software can only be installed on PCs and Macs, and doesn’t apply to consoles, so that’s a big drawback right there. PROS

LG OPTIMUS NET DUAL SIM SMARTPHONE

Available: Major electronics retailers (Price: BD150 approx.)

LG have made a very smart move with the Optimus Net Smartphone – instead of trying to compete with the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy, what they’ve instead decided to do is create an affordable midrange smartphone specifically for the eastern markets that boasts much of the functionality of its more glamorous counterparts at around half the price. The Optimus Net is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based smartphone with dual-sim capability, so that you can either use one sim for work and one for leisure, or have sims from two different countries, allowing you to save costs on roaming when travelling, for example if you travel between the UK and Bahrain a lot. While not as crystal clear and sharp as the displays on Galaxies or iPhones, the 3.2-inch screen is by no means poor, with responsive touchscreen performance and rich colour. The phone also feature DLNA content sharing, to easily transfer data with other phones with the same feature. One major drawback of the phone is that it only comes with 150MB internal memory with a 2GB memory card in the box, but it

does have the option of expanding the memory up to 32GB, putting it right up there with the best. How much this adds to the price, however, we can’t say right now. The 3MP camera highly unimpressive, especially when other brands like the iPhone are boasting cameras of up to 8MP these days, but it serves a purpose, we suppose. While everyone is looking to create the flashiest, best, brightest, and most beautiful smartphones, it’s nice to see someone who is thinking about functionality and budget more than impressing at the electronics expos! This isn’t the most fashionable or

cutting-edge smartphone on the market, but it is one of the most affordable, and when combined with the Dual Sim capability, this is where its main strength lies.

ALI DRIVER SAYS THAT

“The Porsche 991 is the most significant development in the 911 range to date…” Our Mystery Motoring Expert, Ali Driver, travels to Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi to get to grips with Porsche’s new baby, the 2012 911 Carerra S…

O

ur Mystery Motoring Expert, Ali Driver, travels to Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi to get to grips with Porsche’s new baby, the 2012 911 Carerra S… Whatever you say about the 911, and there are definitely two camps, you can’t deny that it is a hugely significant car. Iconic is a word too often used in the media, but in this case, it definitely applies. Few other cars in the world have maintained their identity and ideology so clearly, for so long – almost fifty years, in fact! Historically, I have always been in the anti-911 camp, sharing space with the likes of Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear, and his sentiment that it looks like a sporty Beetle and is only rearwheel drive because of tradition, and not any practical reason. My sentiments started to waver, however, when I drove the 997 4S. I began to understand why Porsche have such a strong policy of getting bums on seats, as many and as often as possible – because once you’ve driven a Porsche, you realise what a fantastic experience it is, and this is the single biggest selling point of any Porsche. However, the styling of the car still didn’t excite me as much as other sports cars did, however good the drive was. The pro-911 camp, which includes Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, laud it as the ultimate driver’s car, and that nothing comes close in terms of the amount of driving pleasure and comfort you get for your money. They hail the style as (once again) iconic

52

and timeless, and an essential defining characteristic of what is “911”. And Porsche… well, like the Christian missionaries of yore, they won’t be happy until the whole world is converted. They will keep tweaking and refining the 911, and inviting people to try them out until, one by one, the anti-911 camp is converted, and is ultimately reduced to one or two stubborn loonies who refuse to be convinced. However, one day eventually they’ll die, and Porsche’s mission will be complete! A significant coup happened in 2010, when Jeremy Clarkson drove the 911 GT3, and announced (shock, horror!) that he wanted one, “Badly”! However, I fully predict that no single previous model will ever be as responsible for converting so many people to the 911 as this, the 991. The first reason for this is the looks – it was the opinion, not just of myself but everyone on the trip in Abu Dhabi, that his new 911 is the best looking to date. The first thing that strikes you is how athletic and ‘un-Beetlelike’ it looks. The roofline is lower and more raked, with a more tightly angled windshield making the car look faster than its predecessor. The side profile in general is more ‘stretched’ and dynamic. The wheels are also bigger, with a longer

wheelbase and wider track, and more pronounced rear wheel arches, all giving the car a more muscular look than the 997. This has also led to the 991 being the roomiest 911 that I’ve ever been in – there is bags of legroom and plenty of headspace despite the sportier look. The biggest styling improvement though, in my opinion, is the rear end. It doesn’t slope down so dramatically anymore, making it look less like a Beetle and more like the GT it’s supposed to be. It also looks more modern and stylish, especially in the rear lights. We like, a lot… I was lucky enough to have a chat with the man behind the design of the new 911, a very nice chap by the name of Michael Mauer, who is the head of the Porsche Design Department (and the guy who drew the rather cool sketch of the new 911 you’ll see on the following pages). My first question? The obvious (well, to me anyway): If the last generation was the 997, and the one before that the 996, then why is this one the 991, and not the 998? The answer: “It just is.” Ok… Apparently, and strangely enough for a German car manufacturer, there is no logic towards the model

My sentiments started to waver, however, when I drove the 997 4S

designations of the 911; the model numbers are assigned through pure random selection. It’s something to do with keeping new models secret by choosing random numbers that don’t have anything to do with the cars themselves. Sensing that the chat was going well, I decided to push my luck, and ask about recent rumours and so-called ‘leaked’ design sketches flying around on the internet relating to a resurrection of the front-engined Porsche 928. He was suitably vague! “We are currently in the process of exploring different paths, as you can see with the Cayenne, and the Panamera, so it’s expected that we would consider the possibility of a front-engined car like the 928, possibly a Panamera derivative, but possibly something completely new. There are many different design ideas around the office at any given time. But there is absolutely nothing official right now, and nothing you’ve seen on the internet came from us!” The general impression I got from further probing was that, while the idea has certainly been proposed, and even some sketches made, nothing has gone any further than that… but there was a tangible “Yet” in there somewhere! So, back to the 911. The driving experience of the 991 takes the 911 into new realms of achievement – the jump in performance from the 997 is huge. To give you some perspective on how good this car is, the 991 Carrera S lapped the infamous Nürburgring in seven minutes and forty seconds, which is 14 seconds faster than its predecessor, and the same time as the 997 [ITALS] GT3 – an absolutely phenomenal achievement! All this is despite an engine that consumes 16% less fuel than the previous generation, with an average fuel consumption of 8.2l per 10km, and CO2 emissions of 194g/km, making it the first Porsche to reach below 200g/km. What is this sorcery? Much of it is down to the fact that the new 911 is FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY Feb issue.indd 53

TECHNOLOGY 45kg lighter than before, thanks to an all-new lightweight body, with around 90% of the components of the car either brand new or significantly revised. Other factors are the auto start/stop function, featured for the first time ever on a Porsche, which shuts down the engine at traffic lights to conserve fuel, and the coasting function which further conserves fuel. And the amazing performance is principally down to Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), both of which are posh names for systems that basically do very simple things. The PDCC is an active anti-roll system that stiffens the suspension in the relevant wheels when you turn, for example the front outside wheel, so that all four wheels have maximum grip. The PTV, to put it VERY simply, controls the speed of the rear inside wheel to essentially ‘drag’ the car around a corner. As one of Porsche’s drivers explained to us, “It’s like floating along in a canoe, and sticking your oar in the water towards the rear on one side, which will pull you round to that side.” The PDCC was first featured on the Cayenne, but is now available as an option on the 991 Carrera S. Its main benefit is that it serves to address a traditional problem with the 911, which is understeer. The PTV is standard on the Carrera S. The result of the combination of these two technologies is breathtaking. The new 911 handles with a precision and poise that is almost supernatural. Despite being rear-engined, the

“Michael Mauer, the man behind the design of the 911, who drew me this nice picture too!”

911 feels almost as balanced as the midengine Cayman… almost. And now we come to one of my favourite bits – the Sport Plus Button. Many slate the ‘sport button’ as a pointless feature on a sports car, as they seldom make much difference, except maybe to the sound, and sports cars should just be sports cars anyway! However, the 911 begs to differ. As I first drove the car out onto the streets of Abu Dhabi, I began to think how tame the whole experience was. Comfortable, yes, and smooth, definitely, but decidedly tame. Then I looked down and sighted the Sport

Plus button, and decided to give it a go. Wow. The engine note changed, and it revved harder, the suspension stiffened and the throttle response tightened. It felt like a completely different car altogether. It went from an everyday luxury sports coupe to a

“It’s really a car with two personalities: everyday driver, and track monster!”

54

FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY

Feb issue.indd 54

25/01/2012 18:28

track-ready monster in the simple push of a button. And the Sport Plus button is totally necessary for a car like the 911, which touts itself as an everyday drive, because in Sport Plus mode it would become tiresome driving it every day on normal roads – you’d be constantly fighting the urge to floor it and race everything that moved. Also, the jarring gear changes and hair-trigger throttle would start to irritate. When you reach a twisting mountain road, or take it on a circuit, however, you can press the button and have all the fun you want! You really get the best of both worlds. With the interior, Porsche have followed the design cues of the raised centre console as seen in the Cayenne and the Panamera, although it is much slimmer in the 911. The overall effect of this console is that you feel as if you’re sitting lower, and it cocoons you so that you feel more connected to the car, like a jet pilot in a cockpit. The leather seats are air-conditioned, and very comfortable, and add to all this the roominess that I mentioned previously, and you have the most pleasurable interior to feature in a 911 so far. So well done Porsche – in your crusade to indoctrinate the world to the 911 cult, another great battle has been won! You have produced a version that Ali Driver, FACT’s infamous Mystery Motoring Expert, would actually like to own. He is converted.

Who is Ali Driver?

“The PTV and PDCC combine to make this the besthandling Porsche 911 ever made too...”

1. He lives in Bahrain and says he grew up on the streets of Muhurraq, but we think he’s actually from a rich family in Saar, and won’t admit it. 2. He says his car skills are all self-taught, but we’re sure we’ve seen a course certificate from the BIC on his wall. 3. He drives cars better than anyone we know (but don’t ever tell him). 4. He claims to be able to change a regular car tyre in under 4 minutes, but we’re sure that’s only when his wife helps him. FACT BAHRAIN FEBRUARY

2012

Welcome...

to the fourth season of Bahrain’s reality magazine modelling series, where you (that’s you readers!) get to choose who will be Bahrain’s Top model 2012! And, for the first time this year, we are accepting female AND male models widening the scope of modelling talent that will be highlighted by the competition...

1.

How this works:

Each month for four months, the contenders are given a fashion shoot challenge, and we print each contender’s best images (as chosen by them!)

2. You vote on which contender you think models best, each month. The two male and female models with the lowest points from the popular and judges votes is eliminated from the competition.

3. We all have a rollercoaster four months of modeling madness as the nine contenders vie to become Bahrain’s fourth Top Model!

ith a style and ambiance that is sensibly sophisticated, the relaxed Ranch Living style draws its inspiration from earthy tones, where the designers have pulled ideas from the dramatic landscapes of the Nevada Desert mixed with the rich heritage of its people. Shut your eyes and think natural textures mixed with light and dark woods, leather, kelim and ethnic elements for a luxuriously comfortable, lived-in look. Starting with the bold graphic wallpaper that features golden palm leaves, this theme uses neutral beiges and rustic pieces. Throw together a stylishly casual sofa and a fluffy rug with a cool coffee table and console, both made from recycled wood. While

86

a stripy armchair and wenge bookcase create chic contrast, a kelim covered pouf and cushion inject vivid colour. No room is the same if it lacks character, so throw in some charm to the rural theme with a vintage leather storage box, Native American print, antelope horn sculpture and, completing the classic country feel, fill the room with a variety of greenery, such as palms and cacti. Light will also inject a warm factor into the room so make sure there are plenty of pools of light flooding the room; chrome table lamps and candles will do the trick.

The One is offering the chance to contrast monochrome and accent colours with sleek, statement-making pieces in leather, high gloss, stainless steel and brown woods for cutting-edge appeal. These pieces are fresh from the streets of London, this trendy urbaninspired vibe features wild wallpaper as a backdrop to smooth white leather sofas, a glossy sideboard and polished stainless steel coffee table. While a canary yellow designer Magino stool, which handily doubles as a hip and handy magazine rack, helps brighten the space, a chic

collection of stripy Burberry cushions softens it. When art is concerned, eyecatching montages are the way to go. Try out the iconic portraits, including legends like John Lennon and Martin Luther King Jr. On the other hand you could balance out the pieces with a classic yet contemporary Paris Print. If you want to really increase the feel for the place, choose the 60s studio floor lamp and chunky pillar candles. Come on, you can see yourself now, sipping on that classy cocktail 007 style – shaken not stirred of course!

The bright colour, soft metals and faces of the past will be sure to get your friends talking. Everyone needs to make a change in their lives, so start with your home. Now you will no longer need an excuse to throw that party you have been planning for ages.

VENUE REVIEW

BICE

Moda Mall Tel: 1753 3666 BD30-40 per person

THIS month, we take a look at the impressive new addition to Moda Mall’s dining outlets – BICE Italian restaurant. Occupying the glass atrium above the main north entrance to the mall, the venue itself is hugely impressive, with modern, elegant and stylish décor and panoramic views of the financial harbour. There is also a classy upstairs lounge for the smokers or post-work drinkers. BICE itself is an international brand, with restaurants in capital cities across the world, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, but don’t for one second think of it as a chain – if what they say is true, each outlet is uncompromising in its standards. And having now tried the Bahrain restaurant, we fully believe them! We were invited to try the restaurant’s taster menu, which is a concept you won’t find on the regular menu, but can be provided on request. They will give you a menu of all the dishes that you try, along with note paper to make comments on throughout the meal. Each dish is accompanied with carefully selected ‘beverages’, all of which complemented the dishes perfectly. The first starter that was brought was Carpaccio di Manzo, Angus beef

90

Carpaccio with citrus dressing and pine seeds. I could safely say that this was the best Carpaccio I had ever had! The finely cut meat literally melted in your mouth; you could actually just let it slowly dissolve, which you’d be encouraged to do by the amazing flavour the dressing gives it. Next came the Insalata di Polpo, a warm octopus salad with roasted potatoes, and herb “salsa verde”. Again, the dressing is delicious and tangy, and the octopus tender and succulent. So far, I was really impressed. The first main course that was brought was the Gnudo di Ricotta e Spinaci, which is cottage cheese and spinach gnocchi. While I love gnocchi, it can often be a very heavy dish; but not so this time. The pieces of gnocchi were rich and full of flavour, and yet light and delicate, going down very well with the accompanying beverage. Then came the Risotto ai Funghi Porcini, which is risotto with Porcini mushrooms. Now, this IS a heavy dish, as risottos always are, but again beautifully flavoured, with the creaminess managing not to overwhelm the flavour of the mushrooms. Following this was the Branzino

all’Isolana, which is wild Mediterranean sea bass. This was well cooked and juicy, and yet delicately flavoured, so that the sauce complemented the flavour of the fish, rather than cancelled it out. Though this sounds like a large amount of food, each dish comes out in smaller portions, so that while you get to try a wider variety of dishes, you don’t end up uncomfortably full. Which is a good thing, because that means we had enough room for the Cioccolatissimo alla Bice, a soft chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream and Millefiori honey. Now I have to admit that I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, and normally skip dessert after a meal. However, this was devoured in mere minutes, and I don’t really need to explain exactly why – the name of the dessert should be sufficient! When BICE was first announced, I thought to myself that, given the amazing standards of Italian cuisine we already have in Bahrain, they had their work cut out for them to compete. However, having visited, I can honestly say that it’s the other Italians in Bahrain that should be nervous! World-class cuisine in a world-class venue.

EVERYONE needs a good laugh. We know we do anyway. It is always good to know that there are new nights in Bahrain that will let you do so; even better that they are coming all the way from the UK to perform. Terry Alderton and Noel Brodie are heading out for their Comedy Road Show to give a live gig in Kicks, in the Diva Hotel, Champs in the Best Western Juffair and Corners in the Dragon Hotel, Amwaj. Terry is known as one of the most exciting comedians around, having travelled all over the globe last year, and he even inspired Michael McIntyre! Terry actually started off playing football for Southend FC but then turned his talents to being a joker at the age of 18. He then managed to go up the comedy ladder and end up on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Road Show, hosted his own radio show and even the National Lottery! Noel is one of the UK’s brightest young comedians, who seems to effortlessly bridge that old age gap between improvisational material and the intelligent parodies. He has even been called “a serious comedy find” by The Stage magazine. Noel also has some considerable experience in performing in pantos, as he is famous for his quick wit, warmth on stage and high-end delivery. The Hospital Nights at Tabu

Now this IS something new – some nights with a difference! And here’s why…

BAHRAIN is lacking that explosive element of a night out (and we’re not talking violence here people). We’re talking about lack of inspiration. So now here it is. Called Hospital IV, Tabu is playing host to some art, music and colour filled nights where Bahraini and international artists will be joining forces to lift Bahrain’s party people’s spirits. The first night is February 9, where the likes of Mo Laudi, DJ Kiwi, Captain T and Salime will be hot on the decks but at the same time, artist Santi Fenwick will be showing off his artistic skills by creating paint artifices on your white t-shirts (which you will be required to wear by the way). Tabu’s second night is March 1, with DJ Spencer Product, best known for his house, funk and dance tunes, and for headlining the Vogue New York fashion week party. This guy is big news and Tabu should be packed. Get yourself down to Juffair because this will be one night in Bahrain where the music will be hot and the guest list full. If you haven’t been here before, this is one chance to see it at its best. GO: For information, call 3999 4199.

Tim Horton’s Opening

AT the end of 2011, Dubai said hello to the opening to one of Canada’s hottest names in coffee. So as well as Deira City Centre and Sheikh Zayed Road, Abu Dhabi also formally opened at Mushrif Mall. So why are we, a Bahrain-based magazine, blabbing on about the UAE? Well, it’s because Bahrain will be opening its own stores in the near future too! The patisserie nibbles that are on offer are to die for, and the coffee is the kind you wish you could make yourself every morning. Perhaps the best thing about Tim Horton’s is that you get value and taste at the same time. Watch this space!

Basics The modern outlook on a ‘healthy life’ is one that has unfortunately been distorted, where the ways of the Western world have almost destroyed the natural lifestyles we were created to follow. But in Bahrain, hope still very much remains. Zara de Haldevang talks to Craig Heslop to discover the truth behind Tribal Fitness and why everyone should get involved.

I

n a world now severely dominated by fast food, advanced technology and an almost contagious attitude of laziness, you only have to glance around you to noticeably see the effects on an average individual. For one man, however, the human body is treasured more as an art form: precious in physical state and in constant need of care. Craig Heslop, the founder of the growing phenomenon that is Tribal Fitness, took his chance to spread his knowledge and outlook to the people in and of Bahrain. While working in Kuwait, Craig was encouraged to visit the Kingdom and instantly recognized a huge opportunity to improve fitness levels on the island. Having been a sports fanatic from an early age, physical activity has played a huge part in Craig’s life. “For me though, it is not a case of being fit but more of living naturally – returning to how we used to live two to three generations ago. Just because we live life quickly, does not mean we have to live it badly.” Tribal Fitness is a concept that was borne of the desire to link conditioning to nature. The nature of Tribal Fitness’s services are determined through its three core values: Thokozela – Zulu for enjoyment, Feabhas – Gaelic for improvement and Wero – Maori for challenge. “Life shouldn’t be about trying to be an Olympic athlete; life should include doing something worthwhile with your bodies everyday – whether you walk everyday, run or lift a load twice a week, our bodies should readapt to how they were designed to behave,” says Craig. Today’s statistics speak for themselves; life expectancies have decreased, drug abuse is on the rise and the alcohol and tobacco industries are still booming despite the known health-related issues. “The problems now remain that we are not as fit as we can be and to solve this we need to stop giving in to the negative aspects of modern life,” adds Craig.

What is a “Diet”?

The word ‘diet’ is a Greek derivative that is defined as ‘a way of life’. However this word’s true meaning has been distorted by our modern age. A ‘diet’ should not be a month of starvation but in fact a concept that you should be followed for the entirety of your life. Ideally, 80% of our diet should be food that has either lived or grown naturally. You only have to look at the Italians and the Japanese, who use healthy food as an excuse to host family occasions and social events. In the USA and Europe however, Craig describes it as “Sickening at how little thought goes into what we put into our mouths.” The food we eat has a huge impact on the quality of our life; modern day manmade foods are dramatically reducing the quality and longevity of our lives and with a simple lack of common sense, effort and knowledge towards food, we have been rewarded with fatigue, illness and chronic disease. Tribal Fitness urges the importance of a Paleolithic diet, where each member of the ‘tribe’ is encouraged to eat natural products such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, meat, seafood, eggs and fish. As well as food existing as a vital factor for healthy living, it is also essential for the environment in which we eat it. We should really make the effort to allocate a time when eating and socializing are combined enjoyments. Craig goes on to say that “karma WILL come back around and bite you! If your diet isn’t good enough, your body will display the results.” Tribal Fitness was initially introduced on the island in March 2010, where Craig set up the concept from scratch, recruiting new instructors for the tribe along the way. The tribe consists of five instructors so far, Antwanette, Lina, Leona, Aaron (who is based in Abu Dhabi) and of course Craig. Their

newest recruit Danielle, will be joining the tribe in March, and has made it a personal necessity to spread the Tribal word in Bahrain. “The response on the island so far has been fantastic,” says Craig. “We have slowly picked up Bahrainis to join, which was a personal goal of mine, especially the under 30s who have struggled with the life situations the Western ways have brought. People have now returned to an active lifestyle that their grandparents and great grandparents were accustomed to.” Tribal Fitness holds a number of sessions per week. Tribal Kidz is designed for primary school children to return kids to playing whilst combining natural movements and teamwork. The Tribal Rebels targets teenage boys in an aid to help them make that transition from being a boy to a man. The Rebel sessions endeavor to help improve self-discipline and build up respect for your elders; a trait that has sadly been lost over the generations. There are also women-only sessions as well as a ‘mammoth’ session where each member of the tribe commits themselves to an hour and a half of hard work, dedication and supporting their other members. And so what are we to expect from Tribal Fitness this year? “The aim is to organically keep moving through the GCC countries. In Bahrain, we have as much of an opportunity as ever in helping Bahrainis to enjoy being physical and to eat and live naturally and well. I want to change people’s perceptions of exercise – there is no reason for the modern gym ways. Many people find the fitness industry extremely intimidating. Tribal Fitness is about simplifying fitness as much as possible and making it functional to one’s life.”

Karma WILL come back around and bite you! If your diet isn’t good enough, your body will display the results

VERY often we say to ourselves, “If my life was better/if I had more money/if my marriage was better, I would be so happy.” We often think that if we fixed all the little or large problems in our lives this would bring us that much closer to happiness. Believe it or not, this is all backwards. Let me give you an example. Someone who considers themselves unpopular might say: “I am so unhappy because nobody likes me.” Well actually it’s more likely that nobody likes you because you are so unhappy! Did you ever find yourself saying: “Oh that person looks so sad, it would be so lovely to hang out with them?” We may decide to provide support to a friend in need because that is what good friends do, but a happy person has the power to bring colour to our lives, and this is what makes them attractive. I know we all have real life issues that get us down, some of which seem impossible to escape, but we can make the choice about what we focus on. Whatever you focus on is what will affect your physiology, your body chemistry and in turn your mood. Here are a few basic tips you could do on your own: Cardiovascular exercise burns off all the bad hormones which make you feel stressed. Consider exercise a necessity, and not a luxury. Change your posture, stand up straight and always breathe deeply. Find people who like to be happy and spend as much time with them as possible – their positive outlook on life will most likely rub off on you. Now for the fun part! Create a wonderful daydream for yourself. Dream up your most awesome life. Make your daydream detailed, add colour, sounds, and textures and see yours and others’ happy expressions. Make it a habit to visit your daydream as often as possible. The happiest most successful people happen to be the effective dreamers! GO: For a personal consultation call 3669 6666
