Every year, we like to bring you the best of Bahrain’s outdoor dining scene, because, let’s face it - being able to go to a restaurant or lounge and actually sit outside (and not melt in five seconds) is a novelty that we need to take advantage of in the cooler months. And because we all know that food is a focal point here in Bahrain, what better way to enjoy the winter breeze than dinner on a terrace, ladies night at a rooftop lounge and more bearable beach and garden soirees, whether it be brunch, lunch or another themed night offering. The Stamp Seal: Hallmark of Dilmun and its Hidden Art DATE: ONGOING - 20 DECEMBER 2018 TIME: 8AM - 8PM VENUE: BAHRAIN NATIONAL MUSEUM GENRE: EXHIBITION Seals were a main administrative tool used to regulate trade and organise society. Hardly bigger than few centimetres, they were used on official documents, tags attached to goods and on buildings gates to certify authenticity and ownership. In addition to their main administrative function, the seals might have had some metaphysical connotations. With a shape and iconography unusual to the Near East, the Dilmun seals illustrate more than any other category of artefacts, the most original material representation of the Dilmun culture and its only surviving art.

'The Stamp Seals: Hallmark of Dilmun and its Hidden Art’ draws on the permanent collection of the Bahrain National Museum and some highlights from the National Museum of Kuwait.

The display illustrates an exceptional selection of seals spanning the 3rd and 2nd millennia BCE and examines the use, techniques, diversity and splendour of the Dilmun seals.

Investigating perceptual colour and formal systems inherent in the painting process, Rajab creates works with radiant surfaces that optically oscillate, shift, and glimmer.

This luminosity invites close inspection, which reveals that each painting's visually seamless surface is actually an intimate grouping of countless strokes of oil on canvas. Rigorously painted and worked wet into wet, layer upon layer, Rajab’s technique results in complex and shifting colour transitions before resolving into a continuous skin across each canvas. ✤

BAHRAIN LIGHT FESTIVAL THE BAHRAIN LIGHT FESTIVAL will be held from November 23 to 30, introducing the latest lighting innovations by international contemporary artists from France, Japan and the USA. During the press conference, the Director of Tourism Marketing and Promotions at the BTEA, Mr. Yousif Al Khan, mentioned that the BTEA aims to attract visitors from neighboring GCC countries by providing a variety of activities suitable for visitors of all ages.

Hosting the festivals comes in line with the BTEA’s strategy to develop the tourism sector under the slogan of ‘Ours.

SOLE DXB 2017 This year’s three-day global street culture festival is going to be LIT! Returning to Dubai from December 7 to 9 at d3, expect a heavyweight billing of the world’s finest names from across art, food, music, sports and style.

HAVING CELEBRATED AMERICAN HIP HOP heritage in 2015, and its British street-evolved counterpart in 2016, Sole DXB returns in 2017 to spotlight the legacy and influence of Japanese contemporary design.

Reflecting the booming appetite for alternative culture that Sole DXB has steadily cultivated since its inception in 2010, the event will again call Dubai Design District (d3) home for three days. Here, the region’s only street and urban culture festival will mirror what d3 has set out to achieve; to build a thriving creative neighbourhood for a diverse community that share common interests.

The confirmed music billing for 2017 welcomes hip-hop greats of both present and future. Artists to perform most notably include award-winning musician Kano, G.O.O.D Music President and rapper Pusha T, American silk-soul rapper Goldlink, German rapper Serious Klein, and Manchester urban jazz singer IAMDDB, hailed as one of the breakout stars of 2017 and already amassing streams in excess of one million hits per track. And it wouldn’t be Sole DXB without some intimate after-parties, with the OGs DJ Stretch Armstrong, DJ Shortkut, streetwear icons PATTA Soundsystem, and DJs Tom Crane, Dave Lubin, and Andy Baxter providing the flavours this year.

Opening night, December 7, welcomes all to a now-ritual freeto-public annual film screening. This year, with the international premiere of Word is Bond is the turn of Mass Appeal and their recently produced hip-hop documentary, to take centre stage. The documentary examines the transformative power of lyrics in the world of Hip Hop. With an open door policy, it’s the first in a long line of socially driven moves from Sole DXB aimed at providing legitimate, culturally-weighted entertainment, stimulating grass roots artistry.

On December 8, Sole DXB opens in its entirety, with a series of cultural talks unveiled, including intimate ‘no holds barred’ conversations with some of the biggest names in design, fashion and music. rt lovers are in for a visual treat with Hassan Hajjaj’s solo exhibition at Al Riwaq Art Space.

The artist’s work depicts his idea of the traditional gym culture amongst women in the Arab world, as the gallery space will be transformed into a recreational Salon for women. Hassan uses his unique pop culture style of vibrant colours and texture to create an experience where you can feel the Moroccan street vibe coming out through the photographs.

The women in this series are represented as fictional characters where they are dressed in popular brand names combined with traditional textiles all designed and photographed by the artist himself as he invites the audience to take a glimpse into his creative world.

The photographs in this series have been captured over many years and at different locations shown as a full series for the first time in 2016 at the Third Line Gallery in Dubai. Al Riwaq Art Space will be showing a curated selection taking the audience through a timeline of the artist’s creative process in relation to his representation of strong Arab women.

Hassan Hajjaj was born in Larache, Morocco in 1961 and has lived and worked in England since his early

teens. Hassan predominantly works with photography as his medium but incorporates elements and references from North African culture, fashion and recycled objects. His work has been exhibited all over the world in prestigious locations such as Taymour Grahne Gallery, New York, Gusford Gallery, Los Angeles, both Victoria & Albert Museum and Saatchi Gallery, London, plus many more locations.

ubai is well-known around the world for not doing things by halves. The world’s biggest mall? Check. The world’s tallest building?

Check. Sometimes though, it’s nice to find places in this grand city that boast a more boutique and intimate feel. And when it’s quality, comfort and privacy that you want, the Manzil Downtown Dubai will deliver. Like its sister property, Vida Downtown Dubai, just around the corner, this gorgeous hotel blends together stylish interior with tasteful touches of Arabesque decor.

Our check in is swift and although the hotel is very busy, the staff are polite and professional.

What we’ve fallen in love with is the smell of

oud in the lobby; it gives a regal yet warm and inviting vibe (and we’re currently regretting not asking about the brand name of the mesmerising smell).

The 197-room hotel is bustling with travellers, business people and local guests. Its pull of a diverse crowd is only testament to its perfect location, close to Business Bay and the main highways - giving excellent links to tourist hotspots and many office areas too.

Eight floors up and we enter the Deluxe Room; a sleek and minimalist space which impresses straight away. You have a choice between booking a room with a view of the towering Burj Khalifa or the relaxed swimming pool - both great options. Ours is looking down

on the hotel’s pool as well as views of the surrounding Downtown area. It’s a peaceful sight and one that we’re sure every tourist or business traveller would be happy to wake up to!

The colour scheme consists of neutral shades - brown, beige and white. There’s lots of bright light through the large windows and what we love most is the mural art work on the wall behind the bed. There’s a huge flat screen TV and gorgeous Moroccan-inspired lights hanging in the corner of the room. The bathroom is large and has both a rain shower and giant tub, so should you want a long, hot soak we definitely recommend it.

The rooms also have a large desk with speedy, complimentary Wi-Fi which is a big plus. If you don’t want to be in your room the whole time though, the Tawasal desk is a contemporary business hub situated in the hotel lobby. It is available 24-hours-a-day, allowing guests to access a computer and enabling them to connect to the Internet and a wireless printer. It seems they’ve thought of everything!

As mentioned, the hotel is in one of the best locations in Dubai on Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, overlooking Souk Al Bahar, and is within walking distance to Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall and The Dubai Fountains - talk about options, we were spoiled. The Boulevard is impressive with wide footpaths (a rarity in the UAE) and is constantly buzzing, particularly at night when the hotel and many surrounding venues become extremely busy.

An evening stroll here will take you past treelined streets dotted with fairy lights - it’s picturesque.

If you don’t feel like walking, you’ll be happy to know that Manzil has just introduced vintage bicycles for guests to use during their stay. You can hop on and ride down the road to Vida Downtown or explore the area without the stress of the Dubai traffic.

One of the best things about this boutique haven is the breakfast and we love that they have plenty of options for healthy eating.

The presentation of the food alone is superb.

Granola and berries are served up in cute Mason jars alongside small plates of cut fruit and baskets of baked goods. There are freshly squeezed green juices in large glass carafes on offer plus more hearty options such as whole wheat pancakes with almond butter and quinoa porridge with almonds and dates. Both of which taste delicious, making for great fuel to help you start your day. fact magazine

If you aren’t so worried about watching your waistline, then there are lots of full breakfast options such as tasty omelettes with oozing cheddar cheese and as many sides, to go with the eggs, as you can dream of.

Manzil also features other excellent dining venues including Boulevard Kitchen, an all-day dining restaurant serving food from across the Middle East along with modern fare, freshly prepared in an open plan kitchen. We head here for dinner and dine on exceptional food including the creamy burrata salad, fresh grilled sea bass, and the tastiest kunafa we’ve eaten in a LONG time - what.a.winner!

We wash this down with a cup of chai karak and continue to people watch - a beautiful winter diner setting. The first evening was SO good that we returned again for meal number two and, lo-and-behold, the food was just as delicious the second time around. A special shoutout has to go to our waitress on both nights, Masaa. Her friendly approach, warm demeanour and overall knowledge of the menu was superb. No ask was too big or too small for this lovely young lady - she showed equal positive attitude when we requested a phone charger and also when we went with her main course recommendations. Bravo!

The Courtyard is also a great option for unwinding and offers shisha and an Arab-fusion beverage menu featuring regional teas and other specialties such as Arabic afternoon tea which can be enjoyed al fresco.

Of course, it’s not a staycation unless you spend at least one entire afternoon by the pool, right? And Manzil Downtown has a stunning one. It fits right in with the hotel’s chilled-out vibe with comfy loungers and a few shaded cabanas too. Tanning is bliss whilst the pool itself will please those who like to swim lengths.The only dilemma you’ll face here is when you should leave - afternoon nap GOALS. Service was consistent throughout our entire stay and we loved the cosy feel of the property, the easy access to surrounding attractions and the utterly helpful staff. Our advice is simple: give the crowd-packed resorts of Dubai a rest and opt for a more classy and down-to-earth staycayion choice at Manzil Downtown. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you find! ✤

After a welcome invitation from Nissan Middle East, we packed our bags and boarded a plane bound for Lebanon and the regional launch of a special motor vehicle. Although we had been privy to previous models of the Nissan X-TRAIL, the 2018 version promised to deliver an array of improved features and enhanced performance. We could not wait to get our hands on the newly designed steering wheel and to put this new-born through its paces.

Ample space and headroom, striking new steering wheel, quality leather upholstery, privacy glass, redesigned storage areas and the CVT XTronic automatic transmission with a restyled gear selector, are but a few of the new features to be found. The 2018 X-TRAIL has an option of both advanced petrol and diesel engines. The 2.5-litre, four cylinder engine option delivers 170HP and 233 Nm or torque. This combined with the automatic transmission and four-wheel drive ensures impressive handling and cornering ability with one always feeling in complete control with plenty of power in reserve.

With enthusiastic drivers all around us on the roads of Beirut, we were quietly thankful for this model’s impressive safety features. Nissan have included Rear Cross Traffic Alert as well as Blind Spot and Front Collision Warning systems. Nissan’s ‘Intelligent’ technology systems have been developed to include the Around View Monitor, Emergency breaking, Cruise Control as well as Trace and Ride Control.

The car also comes with two airbags as standard, plus side curtain airbags on SL models, driver assistance systems including anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution and stability control.

The Hyundai i30 N has been developed as a true driver’s car, and will be the first of a range of high-performance versions of Hyundai models. N stands for Hyundai Motor’s Namyang R&D Center in Korea, and the Nürburgring. The ‘N’ logo symbolises a chicane, the ultimate corner where the i30 N has been tested thoroughly and has proven its ability.

The car features segment-leading and state-of-the-art highperformance features, a powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivering up to 275 PS and 353 Nm torque, and sports unique high-performance design elements on the exterior and interior. LEXUS UNVEILS NEW 2018 NX TURBO Ebrahim K. Kanoo, the sole distributor of Lexus vehicles in the Kingdom of Bahrain, unveiled the new Lexus 2018 NX Turbo at the Lexus Showroom in Sitra. The entire front fascia of the 2018 NX has been refreshed, with the upper portion of the grille and the front bumpers redesigned to more fluidly blend into the hood and front doors, resulting in a sleeker overall shape and excellent aerodynamics. The rear end has also been refreshed, with the lower rear bumper cover now involving elements of the grille’s spindle motif, and broadened to enhance the vehicle’s wide stance and low-centre-of-gravity look. In addition, the NX’s revised taillights have been elongated, and the black garnish revised to better emphasize the L-shaped lenses.

Ebrahim K. Kanoo Senior Manager of Lexus Marketing, Ayman Shehadeh said: “Luxury is paying attention to the small details, and Lexus understands the importance of those details. The NX symbolises the new direction the brand has taken to offer designbased cars that showcase both Lexus’s advanced engineering and powertrains. This is expected to be a refreshing and rewarding experience for Lexus customers in Bahrain.”

The interior of the new NX has been slightly reworked to exude a sportier nature and a more luxurious feel, with enhanced control 66

interfaces. Immediately noticeable is the larger available display on the centre dashboard, which has grown from 7 inches to 10.3 inches.

Nearly all the controls and switches inside the new NX, including the drive mode selector, shift knob and door handles, now have a metallic satin finish, enhancing the premium look and feel of the cabin. ✤

I

’ve always been bothered by food wastage, and so much of it happens at extravagant Friday brunches across the country.

This is why, I quickly appreciated Asia De Cuba’s foodie offering – the Chino Latino Friday Brunch – at Gallery 21, Adliya.

What makes this weekend gastronomy set-up appealing? Well, firstly you’ll find that on the buffet, there’s a conscious amount of food on display, just enough variety to keep your palate pleased, but not over the top where half of it will be left unconsumed. And, the choice of dishes is something that impressed us too.

Let’s start at the beginning… as you take your first steps into Gallery 21, you’re welcomed by a sense of luxury and once you take a left to Asia De Cuba your eyes will light up – the door will open to the liveliest garden– style venue. A beautiful glass ceiling allows natural light to flow in and brighten up your gathering, surrounded by green walls and energetic music.

At Asia De Cuba’s Chino Latino Friday Brunch you can order one salad and one main course from the brunch menu in addition to an array of great Asian delicacies on the buffet. Our waiter nicely introduced how the brunch works and then got us started with drinks and a basket of comfort starters like banana chips, black bean dip, fried chicken cubes, spring rolls, and beef fatayer. Since we were four at the table, we were lucky to be able to try four different salads and four delicious main course dishes. I ordered the roasted beetroot salad just for all the health benefits it possessed but the flavours of the different kinds of beets that were so artistically presented against the white plate were gorgeously earthy yet so fresh. The crispy calamari with banana chayote and orange sesame vinaigrette was surprisingly delicious, whilst the Gulf shrimp with watermelon and Napa cabbage is summery and refreshing, and the sweet soy beef crudo (prosciutto salad) was simply divine.

The Raw Bar Station is heaven for every ceviche lover where super fresh seafood is submerged in sensational fruity concoctions. A humble Cheese Corner 96

alongside fresh, tasty salads including quinoa, avocado, and pasta options, are also there to be devoured. A station for noodle is great with three different kinds of soup: duck, beef, and spicy seafood curry. I tried the seafood option and it recalled great memories of my family trips to Thailand – flavours on point! And, of course, the Asian buffet would not exist without a corner dedicated to roasted chicken, duck, and different grilled fish and seafood choices as well.

On one side of the human-sized sculptures that adorned the beautiful garden was the sweet corner with delicious creations such as passion fruit mousse, and mouthwatering churros. On the other side, succulent stir-fried beef with pepper sauce, tender chicken kung pao, and amazing Cuban chicken hot pot.

For mains, it was the authentic mojo duck confit with brown rice and poached egg, and a magnificent Chino Latino with lamb, jasmine rice and edamame, that stood out for mind-blowing taste. We also had no regrets about ordering the steak as it was tenderly rich.

The next time you feel like brunching with your family or a big group of friends head to Adliya and try Asia De Cuba in Gallery 21; great Asian cuisine is prepared to perfection and served professionally in a unique and enthusiastic atmosphere. Can't ask for more! ✤

Located inside the bustling City Centre Bahrain, the restaurant immerses you in authentic Turkish traditions from the get-go. Its vivid colour scheme, beautifully patterned tiles, plants placed in vibrant pots and suspended lanterns are reminiscent of the breathtaking Ottoman architecture so often associated with Turkish life. The great attention to detail and exquisite ornamentation certainly excite your senses for what’s to come.

Marrying the old with the new, Kosebasi is always looking for new and exciting ways to delight your taste buds. As soon as we heard about their brand new seasonal menu, we knew we just had to try it for ourselves! Serving everything from yummy breakfast and mouthwatering appetisers to fresh salads and luscious desserts, a trip to Turkey has never been this easy. We began our ultimate Turkish culinary journey with Suzme Yogurtlu Ekmek – fresh flat bread topped with suzme yoghurt, fresh tomato, cucumber, olives, fresh mint and a drizzle of olive oil. The housemade flat bread was incredibly light and fluffy and went amazingly with the fresh vegetables and refreshing yogurt. We certainly don’t mind digging into this healthier version of pizza, all day, every day!

Moving on to appetisers, we were presented with an Ottoman classic, Hunkar Begendi.

A delightfully rich dish of traditional-style Turkish lamb stew on a bed of creamy roasted eggplant mash, it was an explosion of flavours with every bite. The tanginess of the eggplant contrasts beautifully with the tender meat resulting in a truly unrivalled taste. The perfect dish for when you’re in need for some comfort eating!

kebab wrapped in lavash bread is unlike anything we have ever had before. While the extremely tender kebab was truly the star of the plate, the garlic flavoured yoghurt sauce and zesty Turkish spices truly brought the dish together.

There’s no denying that Turkey takes their dessert very seriously. Digging into a delectable sweet dish while sipping on traditional coffee or tea is a social ritual that the Turkish people swear by. We were truly blown away by the dessert: Grandma’s Katmer, a baked flaky pastry stuffed with clotted cream, sugar and grounded pistachios served with sweet vanilla ice cream – it had us “oohing” and “aahing” till the very last spoonful. With vanilla ice cream brought all the way from Turkey, the perfectly sweet, fragrant dessert had us going back for seconds and was definitely a favourite for everyone on the table! Another one of their newest additions, Fresh Pomegranate Juice, is certainly one of the best we’ve had on the island. If you’re someone who loves a good juice, this refreshing concoction is sure to please! Using traditional handmade techniques and authentic ingredients, Kosebasi is a treat for your senses as soon as you walk through the door. The effective combination of heart-warming hospitality, unwavering standards and some of the most satisfying food will certainly have you coming back for more! ✤

Creative Cuisine With contemporary spins on authentic dishes, Meisei continues to thrive on the local dining scene for its inventive approach to authentic recipes.

FACT went to learn more about the restaurant’s latest nod to the traditional Japanese method of cooking that we all know as Robata…

Y

ou may have heard the term Robata when dining at a Japanese restaurant, but how many diners actually know what it means? Robata is short for Robatayaki which refers to a method of cooking that is similar to barbecue. It literally translates to fireside-cooking which happens to be a centuries-old country style of cooking by northern Japanese fishermen. To enjoy a hot meal at sea, fishermen needed a way to cook on the boats, so they encased binchotan coals in a stone box to protect the boat from the intense heat. Traditionally, to honour this history, some Robata restaurants will serve their food on the end of a stylised paddle.

At Meisei, the culinary team under the helm of Execuive Chef Michael Sang-Kyu Lee, is celebrating the long-standing technique of Robatayaki grilling with menu items cooked using binchotan charcoal in the restaurant’s impressive and magnificent Robata Grill, located on the ground floor and visible through the open-kitchen glass interior.

One of the key elements of a traditional Robatayaki grill is the type of coal used that creates an intense heat (up to 1,000 degrees celsius) giving Robata dishes their distinctive flavour. Made in the Kishu region of Japan since the Edo period, binchotan charcoal is activated by burning oak branches at extremely high temperatures 106 fact magazine

for several days and then rapidly cooling them. The special thing about this coal is that, unlike a barbecue where things can be hit or miss, binchotan cooks food thoroughly while retaining a delicious tenderness.

We began our voyage with Spiced Grilled Romaine. Now, don’t be fooled – it may sound like just a piece of lettuce but it comes to the table smothered in a spicy black bean sauce and sesame oil reduction.

Our waitress kindly cuts the big romaine bunches into an edible size and we get stuck in. This is every vegetarian and greenfood-lover’s dream; the lettuce leaves are bathed in a lovely smokey flavour – one that we can’t get enough of.

Next up is what was the most pleasantly

surprising dish of the tasting; Grilled Avocado with tomato salsa. Think two large avo halves, as soft as butter and neatly packed with a salsa that carries a subtle tanginess. What a simple yet perfect combination of flavours – we imagine that this could very well be Meisei’s own take on a sophisticated plating of wouldbe guacamole.

We fill up on Shishito Peppers – gorgeously smoked in the Robata Grill to reveal an almost burnt texture that gives a great earthy contrast to the sweet-tasting Japanese peppers. Both the Miso Yogurt Chicken Wings and the Spicy Peanut Chicken Wings make a big impression at the table in terms of taste, something we must commend about Meisei – it does distinctive flavours REALLY well.

Our favourite, however, had to be the Spicy Peking Duck Yakitori – two skewers of the most tender, velvety meat dipped in a finger-licking sauce (you won’t want to share this!).

The main acts of the show soon arrived and we were as excited as a young child is at their birthday party! Steamed Bao Sliders with three different fillings; Crispy Halloumi, Seafood Szecuan Tempura, and Pulled Ginger Beef. A huge shoutout goes to the side of Basil Aioli and Yuzu Garlic Aioli – both sauces were a food feat in their own right. Though we’re loving the continuous chunky bites of bao accompanied by the most delectable sweet potato tempura with truffle essence, it’s the Pulled Ginger Beef Bao that draws the most “mmmhs” and insta-worthy moments. Baos are great for their pocket-sized fillings and they also aren’t too heavy at Meisei, which is always a plus.

It's this dedication of embodying everything about Japanese food culture, the old and the new, that keeps Meisei ahead in the gastronomy game. Something that will ring true for many years to come if the restaurant and its team keep producing food of such high calibre! ✤

estled in the heart of Seef, Oasis Poolside at Elite Seef Residence and Hotel offers a slice of tranquillity amongst the hustle and bustle. Walking through the hotel reception to the beautiful outdoor venue fills the soul with intrigue and excitement for the evening ahead.

Every Thursday is the night of Layali Al Bazerkan where the delightful al fresco area turns into an arena for delicious food and drinks. This night encompasses and showcases the culinary and musical delights of the Arabic world with its laidback oriental theme and live Lebanese band alongside amazing grills and Middle Eastern dishes.

When we arrived to the BBQ station, we were amazed by the variety of meats that we could choose to satisfy our appetites. After our selection (every

single thing), we decided to get some traditional appetisers of hummus, fattoush, tabouleh, baba ghanoush and Arabic breads to tide us over until our grills were cooked.

We settled down to our table, overlooking the pool, and in perfect view of the huge screen which was beaming out live sports. We chatted amongst ourselves and discussed the quality of the starters whilst enjoying a house beverage. Although all of us at table are not from these shores, we’ve always been intrigued by music from the Arabian world. The timings and the intricacies have always made us very envious of the talented musicians that perform. This was no different at Oasis, as a gentlemen duo provided the most blissful ambiance for the night.

As our meats arrived from the BBQ, we were all salivating at the sight and at the

magnificent aroma that was filling our senses. We immediately tucked in, after the niceties of insisting that each other goes first. We were not disappointed; we fell silent for a good 10 minutes as we enjoyed our grills every tender, juicy bite at a time. The lamb chops and chicken kebabs were a personal highlight but everything was cooked exactly to our preference. A sterling job by the chefs to make the food so enjoyable, we all know how difficult it is to grill on a BBQ to such a high standard. Dessert is a must for sweet treat fans and for those who want to bask in the leisurely vibes, go ahead and order a traditional shisha. We completed the evening with our flavour of lemon and mint shisha, which provided the ideal ending to a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Upon leaving we were all so relaxed and were already discussing when our next visit will be. If those grills are anything to go by, we’re all going to be pushing for next week! ✤

It’s 2017 and there are still people out there who believe that doing one billion abdominal exercises will rid them of the belly fat, back fat and love handles and when it doesn’t work, they wonder why. There’s a lot of information out there on fitness and a lot of it is nothing more than rubbish. If you see anything that promises you a miracle change in two weeks, run for the hills, as this is a lie.

The only way to get and see the results you want is to lower your body fat. As I tell my clients, everyone has abs and once you lose the body fat you will see them.

What you need to remember when it comes to body fat is the first place that you notice the fat on your body will be the last place it comes off. So over focussing on that area (usually the mid-section) is not going to change anything, it’s all about time and lifestyle change.

This includes sleep, nutrition, daily activity and exercise.

So, stop making excuses like “I don’t eat a lot” or you only eat salads, because your body is telling a different story and it’s time for you to start being honest with yourself.

If you don’t see the results you wanted within two weeks - like some magazines or YouTube channels say you shouldn’t worry about it as change takes time. So, stop trying to reduce the fast ineffective way and work on getting that body fat down the right, healthy way. ✤

Happy days! We've moved into milder weather here in Bahrain, and can finally enjoy spending time outdoors.

It's been a long time coming but the rewards are great.

Mornings filled with sunshine are magical for getting out into the garden, and balmy evenings are best for BBQs. And if I were to name my favourite things to do outside on the island around this time of the year, both of these would be high up on my list.

Of course if you're going to get the best out of Bahrain's BBQ season, you first need to make that all-important decision - charcoal or gas. For me, it's charcoal all the way. There's something so satisfying about getting those embers glowing, all in the name of perfectly BBQ-ed bangers. And unlike gas, charcoal gives out the most irresistibly rustic BBQ smell that'll make you an instant hit with the entire neighborhood.

However if you're not a DIY diner and prefer to be waited on, there are a large number of eateries that offer delicious al fresco dining. If I had to choose just one – it’d be the intimate terrace at Primavera at The Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Here you'll find yourself surrounded by glorious greenery with glimpses of the sea, while being served the finest Italian food that Bahrain has to offer.

A peaceful walk along the beach, reading your favourite book surrounded by greens or just good old stargazing, being outdoors is the only therapy we need. Unlike the constriction that comes with the indoors, being one with nature allows you to revel in the peace of being in the moment.

In this constantly evolving world, nature is the only thing that has remained consistent and unfailing.

But you know what’s amazing? You don’t have to be outdoorsy or even an adrenaline junkie to be accepted into the Green Club. A few relaxing moments spent outside are all you need to clear your head and feel pumped up to take over the world again. Every once in a while, give tech a rest and embark on a multi-sensory journey. Your body and mind will thank you! ✤

As we all feel the familiar change in season from fall to winter, there are a few important tips to keep in mind. One of the reasons we tend to get colds and flu during this time, is because we are not getting enough fresh air, exercise and sunshine. Spending more time with the family in the great outdoors has never been more important than now.

This is the perfect time to stock up on your vitamin D through safe and gradual exposure to the sun. A vitamin D deficiency has been linked to a weak immune system. We also tend to eat more or crave more sugar during winter. Use the opportunity to go on adventures outside now that Bahrain boasts the perfect outdoor weather. You will increase the general health, immunity as well as behaviour and attitude of your children. We all know how much energy it takes when you have to recover from a cold or flu. More reasons to invest in outdoor family fun, include the additional benefit of Vitamin D in reducing anxiety, worry, distress and anger, while improving the quality of sleep and rest. The physical body and its processes are intricately linked to the mind, emotions, behaviours, energy levels and immunity. Our ancestors knew how dependant they were for their survival and health on the sun. We on the other hand have become disconnected from our bodies and environment. A day on the beach or in the garden quickly reminds us just how important the seasons and changes in the cycles and rythms of nature are. ✤

I love knowing the history and culture of any new country I reside in. Bahrain being the site of the ancient Dilmun civilisation, my favorite is the Bahrain National Museum with its amazing artifacts and ancient sculptures. Second in line would be the Qalat alBahrain site (Bahrain Fort site) as it is also registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Last but not the least is the Bahrain National Theatre; overlooking the sea, its

unique architectural design and wood-covered interior walls with its acoustics is absolutely stunning.

Describe your day-to-day role in your position and what keeps it exciting?

This is an exciting profile as it is.

With managing the sales team and marketing team simultaneously, both my commercial and creative side is put to the test. Besides setting strategic marketing and sales plans to achieve corporate objectives, it is imperative that this is being done in the right manner through

implementing the corporate and brand standards.

What are your professional goals for the rest of the year & 2018?

It is definitely to increase the market share and with our new rooms, club lounge and the refreshed brand standards launching early next year, it is going to be an exciting year. My aim is to increase awareness in the market about the new look and feel of the hotel and its product which in turn should lead to signing up of new accounts.
