In the Mood for Food

Life is a combination of magic and pasta. - Federico Fellini

T

here's a famous quote by Julia Child: "People who love to eat are always the best people" - anyone who has spent even a few minutes around me will know this to ring true. I LOVE being around foodies - I'm talking about those who can turn up at the boujiest Japanese restaurant and order like a pro one day, and appreciate a good greasy burger and milkshake the next - if you like to gather around good food amid banter and genuine vibes, you're my kind of people. So, every year when the FACT Dining Awards come around, it's nothing but fun times, especially as Dubai has some of the world's best restaurants on its doorstep. Turn to p36 and check out all the nominees for the 3rd annual event where we celebrate the best and favourites in the city. Your vote counts so head on over to www.fact-magazine.com for more information and to make sure you've supported your favourite venues. Staying on the path to all things yummy, we've rounded up 31 eats to get you through October starting p26. From a very elegant afternoon tea to after-work hangouts and the liveliest weekend brunches, there's no room for mediocre food this month - only the best for our readers! For lovers of all things cool, we've got an exclusive Q&A with one of the people behind the upcoming Wake Up Call festival at W Dubai - The Palm (p22); alongside the latest creative launches and exhibition openings at Alserkal Avenue (p45); and plenty off food envy in the form of our monthly picks the Culinary Spotlight at Mythos Kouzina (p83); our New in Town hotspot, Bebemos Bar De Tapas (p87); and the Foodie Corner at Wise Kwai (p91). Travel also plays a huge part in the October issue as our team brings you their experiences from faraway destinations. In Globetrotter, we fly off to the sunny shores of Koh Samui (p54) and our Travel Tales come from greener more palatial backdrops in Portugal (p61). And if that wasn't enough, you've got a first-look at the poignant BMW X7 in City Rides (p67) plus fashion, tech and the most prominent dining and society news. October is the gateway to cooler temperatures making their way into the Dubai atmosphere - we can't wait to finally visit a restaurant and sit outside on the terrace. Let your hanger lead the way and we'll see you all in November for more hashtag food goals!☺

their cuisine, their eating rituals and how they enjoy meals,” says Sandro Silva, Concept Creator of Amazonico. “The most important parts are often the ones that you can’t see, like the roots of a tree or the submerged part of the iceberg. Amazonico stemmed from this philosophy, a venture born of depth, history and expertise.” The admirable interior is created by Spanish designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Trained as a painter, traveller by conviction and interior designer by instinct, Lázaro finds inspiration everywhere; his cultural background allows him to mix, modify and reinterpret past and present trends for each new project. Starting with a bar and lounge, moving up to the restaurant and ending with a rooftop terrace, Amazonico aims to create an incredible experience taking each and every guest on a journey along the Amazon river. An immersion in the sprawling rainforest and Andean peaks, to the golden shores of the northern coast; Amazonico is a space filled with details and charm. ✤

WAKE UP CALL •

For those who aren’t yet familiar with Wake Up Call Festival, tell us in a nutshell what guests can expect to experience? Wake Up Call brings all of the perks of a music festival experience to an international audience with none of the hassles. No mudsoaked shoes, greasy food, portable WCs, and long rides back home when the music stops for the day - all the action happens on-site at W Dubai - The Palm so guests don’t have to miss a single moment. Our goal is for our guests to get closer to the music, providing intimate stages for fans to see artists they know and love and also discover new talent - all within the fabulous walls of a W hotel. Unlike typical music festivals with up to 100,000 people crammed together, WAKE UP CALL is limited to a few thousand attendees, keeping the vibe both luxe and electric and ensuring our guests can get up close and personal with their favourite acts. Highlight for us three reasons why Marriott Bonvoy members should attend Wake Up Call at W Dubai - The Palm? Marriott Bonvoy members can get closer than ever to the artists they love. Marriott Bonvoy is offering Mar-riott Bonvoy Moments packages that our Bonvoy members can bid on - for example joining a yoga session with Rita Ora, playing ping pong against RÜFÜS DU SOL, or getting glam for a private DJ performance and hang session with Disclosure. Marriott Bonvoy members have access to these once-in-a-lifetime opportuni-ties where they not only meet these incredible artists, but have a personalized experience sharing something more than the music - that really doesn’t happen anywhere else.

In keeping with W’s trendy persona, Wake Up Call celebrates the brand’s passion for music - how did the idea for the festival come about and what has been your involvement? We came up with the concept for WAKE UP CALL back in 2016 when we launched our first music festival as a pilot at W Scottsdale. It was a remarkable success. Guests, members, travelers, artists everyone wanted a new kind of luxury music experience, and we delivered. WAKE UP CALL at W Scottsdale proved that we could change the way our guests experience music, and perhaps even revolutionize the world of music festi-vals beyond the hospitality industry. Nothing like it had ever been done before and so we decided to make it even bigger by bringing WAKE UP CALL to the rest of the world. When inspiration strikes, we think big. With the full power of our brand team and our fantastic partners, we chose the destinations for the WAKE UP CALL festival series. We landed on gorgeous, beachside W Escapes with WET Decks to match the en-ergy of the music. We didn’t want to do another one-time event - the goal was to reach music fans in every corner of the map, so we kicked off in the US at W Hollywood before bringing unique line ups to W Barce-lona, W Bali and now W Dubai - The Palm in 2019. We’ve curated everything - the artists, the dining, FUEL classes and more - so guests can feed all of their passions when they come to our kind of music festival. While music is always the center of the action at WAKE UP CALL, we know our guests are always looking for more. We’ve designed bespoke dishes, cocktails, and workouts for all attendees and worked with our loyalty programs (Marriott Bonvoy) to develop fact magazine

23

Moments packages for members to spend time in person (and in style) with the artists they love. We’ve tailored every aspect of the on-site experience at WAKE UP CALL because we can - it’s what we do everyday. Guests walk into their room and they’re steps from the stage. They can change outfits in between acts or wake up to room service and a view of the ocean before joining a rooftop yoga session. You really can’t do that at any other music festival, and that’s why we’re keeping the party going at W Dubai - The Palm. What is it about W hospitality and events that makes it stand out from its competitors? We share passions with our guests - whether that’s music, design, fashion, FUEL (our approach to wellness) or continuing important conversations about the issues of today with our What She Said panels. We create experiences that resonate on a deeper level with our guests from the moment they walk in, rather than just offer a place to sleep. We create a destination for discovery wherever we go - guests know that when they stay with W, they’ll discover something new. Maybe that’s a new song they heard playing in the background at the Beach Club of W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal, or a new favorite cocktail overlooking the slopes at W Aspen, a workout they’d never experienced at a FUEL Weekend or a new band they discover at WAKE UP CALL. From the moment they walk in, we do things a bit differently - our lobbies are Living Rooms, the traditional presidential suite is the Extreme Wow. While a lot of brands have tried to replicate our experienc-es, no one does quite like us. W Dubai - The Palm has fast become one of the city’s hottest spots to party, eat and stay - what would you say are the core reasons for its success? There are endless reasons why W Dubai - The Palm is such a hit. Firstly, The Palm is one of the hottest plac-es to be in Dubai and a spot along the water adds an element of glamour we knew guests would love (on In-stagram or off). We embraced the incredible history and modern influences of Dubai in our design so guests are constantly interacting with artwork, music and a scene-setting atmosphere that mirrors the dynamic city. We’ve also created food and beverage programs that rival any destination in the world. Akira Back with his ultra modern take on Asian cuisine at his namesake restaurant and of course, the intoxicating playfulness and nostalgia of Torno Subito, from Massimo Bottura. 24

fact magazine

Sum up for us in one sentence the 2019 W guest - who is walking through the doors? The W guest isn’t defined by demographics - they are savvy, passionate people seeking a scene where indi-viduality is celebrated in all its forms. Share with us some of your own professional goals with W to help elevate the brand experience even further? We’re living in a world that is increasingly connected and W will continue to help shape the global traveler’s experience. It’s hard to say exactly what that will look like - 20 years ago we weren’t thinking about creating our own GIFs and stickers for Instagram or even hosting a global event series like WAKE UP CALL. As we grow, so do our ambitions - I’m sure even I will be happily surprised with what inspiration we chase next.

Âme Studio, Chalk, Cyacle (acquired by Careem), electriclimefilms, Italian Shoe Factory, KAVE, Shimis Yoga, Society Motors, Tamashee, and Wisdom Warehouse, have joined the 500,000-square-foot cultural district, a vibrant community of visual and performing arts organisations, designers, and artisanal spaces that have become an essential platform for the development of the creative industries in the UAE. “The original concepts opening in Alserkal Avenue add a new dimension to our vibrant community of creative homegrown entrepreneurs — a place where we continue to take a risk on the risk-takers,” says Vilma Jurkute, Alserkal Director. “The new homegrown businesses continue to challenge and disrupt industries through a new way of thinking that is spearheaded by passionate entrepreneurs who collectively contribute to the growing creative economy of Dubai, and the region.” Chalk (Warehouse 63) is brainchild of Emirati entrepreneur Anas Bukhash, and is a unisex beauty salon, and will offer a range of grooming services. Shimis Yoga (Warehouse 42), founded by Simona Stanton, will add to the district’s wellness offering. The family-run Italian Shoe Factory (Warehouse 9) is the foremost manufacturer of custom-made shoes worldwide, offering services to both brands and individual clients. IS THIS TOMORROW? Alserkal Arts Foundation has announced details for landmark exhibition Is This Tomorrow? which will be presented in and around Concrete, at Alserkal Avenue from November 6 to 23, in collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery, London. The exhibition, curated by Whitechapel Gallery chief curator Lydia Yee, responds to timely contemporary issues to offer speculative visions of the future through four pairings between leading artists and architects, including a new site-specific commission by visual artist Rana Begum and architect Marina Tabassum, winner of the 2016 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Lydia Yee, exhibition curator and chief curator at Whitechapel Gallery, says: “It is an honour for Whitechapel Gallery to work in partnership with Alserkal Arts Foundation to present a version of the exhibition Is This Tomorrow? This is a fitting context for an exhibition that explores the potential of artists and architects to collaborate on their vision of the future, and one that will reach a dynamic and diverse new audience for the project in the UAE.” The interdisciplinary installations, environments, and pavilions by Amalia Pica and 6a, Cao Fei and mono office, Mariana Castillo Deball and Tatiana Bilbao Estudio, and Rana Begum and Marina Tabassum Architects reveal the expansive potential of collaboration between art and architecture, in line with the wider 50

November in Alserkal Avenue programme. Is This Tomorrow? will take place in and around Concrete, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture-designed building shortlisted for the 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal, Founder of Alserkal, says: “Alserkal Arts Foundation is delighted to partner with Whitechapel to share such an important and groundbreaking exhibition with our audiences in Dubai and the UAE. Our presentation of Is This Tomorrow? not only furthers our mission of championing collaborative, socially engaged, and multi-disciplinary practices, but also reinforces Dubai’s position as an epicentre for a broader dialogue on the role of architecture in the region.” Is This Tomorrow? was first shown at Whitechapel Gallery, London from February 14 to May 12 this year. For the Dubai iteration of the exhibition, four pairings of international artists and architects will investigate universal topics including borders, privacy, living space, and our relationship with technology. Visual artist Rana Begum (Bangladesh) and architect Marina Tabassum (Bangladesh) will collaborate on a new iteration of Phoenix Will Rise, originally presented at Whitechapel, ‘focused on hope’ that will be created specifically for The Yard, Alserkal Avenue. Rana, who is represented by The Third Line in Alserkal Avenue, says: “We live in a world where the boundaries between disciplines are increasingly blurred, and where technology

enables us to connect with each other wherever we are. This collaboration is exciting because it pushes boundaries in a playful way, while simultaneously inviting the viewer to consider space in relation to location and existing elements. I have found it interesting to engage with Marina Tabassum’s vision and experience of space, form, colour and light.” 6a architects (UK) collaborate with artist Amalia Pica (Argentina) to explore the way architecture proscribes our relationship with animals through a maze- like environment made of an enclosure, blurring the boundaries between human and animal. Exploring another relationship, the one between people and technology, mono office (China) and Cao Fei (China) conceive a prototype for a machine that dispenses objects and emotions to represent and imagine possible futures. Mariana Castillo Deball’s (Mexico) sculptural

work relating to the Mesoamerican calendar, Tonalpohualli, is brought together with Tatiana Bilbao’s (Mexico) architectural exploration of the human need to be isolated— yet communally connected. Is This Tomorrow? is based on the seminal exhibition This is Tomorrow, which took place at Whitechapel Gallery in 1956. Envisioned by architect and critic Theo Crosby, the exhibition brought 38 artists and architects together into 12 groups, including Eduardo Paolozzi, Erno Goldfinger, Richard Hamilton, James Stirling and Alison and Peter Smithson, and is now widely considered a watershed of post-war British Art. Is This Tomorrow? expands on the vision of the original exhibition by showcasing the works of international practitioners, all of whom were born after the original exhibition took place. ✤

BIG SCREEN Joker

Highlights

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

While wandering the streets of Gotham City dressed as a clown, failed comedian Arthur Fleck runs into some violent thugs. Dismissed by the fractured society, Fleck is trapped between a cyclic existence between apathy and cruelty as he begins a slow dissent into madness. What follows is a number of escalating events that transform him into a criminal mastermind.

DIRECTOR: Todd Phillips CAST: Joaquin Phoenix

WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING?

An unprecedented narrative of Batman’s arch nemesis, Joker provides a social commentary that is a true cinematic masterpiece. Touching ideas and intentions that are totally new and uncharted, the film’s premise will give you a lot to think about. Easily one of the best superhero movies ever made, Joker ups the ante by blurring the line between superhero universe and real life. The film centres on Arthur Fleck, who feels rejected and disregarded by society, and is struggling to find his way in Gotham. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night, but eventually realises the joke always seems to be on him. Abandoned by the world, Arthur makes one bad decision that leads to a chain reaction of escalating events, as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker. Joaquin Phoenix’s excellent portrayal invites us to fall in love with the monster. Bold and heartbreakingly beautiful, Joker will captivate you as it takes you on a profoundly dark journey.

Gemini Man

Easily one of the best superhero movies ever made, Joker ups the ante by blurring the line between superhero universe and real life.

An ageing government assassin seeking to exit his career, Henry Brogan finds himself going up against a younger clone of himself named Junior. As he becomes the target of the mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move, Henry has no choice but to uncover the truth behind Junior’s creation and stopping him from going down the path he did.

– Joker

DIRECTOR: Ang Lee CAST: Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead

WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING?

Bringing back the winning combination of Will Smith and nail-biting action sequences, Gemini Man tells an epic tale of battle between the past and present. An innovative action-thriller, Ang Lee’s Gemini Man has Will Smith against Will Smith. The first movie to use timeless VFX technology this year, Gemini Man sees Smith playing the role of Henry Brogan as well as his younger clone. Henry Brogan is an elite assassin who becomes the target of a mysterious agent who seems to be tracking his every move. To his horror, Brogan soon realises that the man who is trying to kill him is actually his faster, younger, cloned version of himself. Cementing Will Smith’s position as a box office star, Gemini Man’s gripping plot and amazing special effects make it one to watch out for! 52

Sweet Days of Discipline By Fleur Jaeggy

HIP-HOP/RAP

Eve

HIP-HOP/SOUL

Let Love

By Common

By Rapsody

A melodious tribute to some of the most influential black women, Rapsody’s newest album is music for your soul. The American rapper’s third studio album, Eve truly showcases her musical genius and creativity in all its glory. Bringing her black womanhood and ingenuity to the fore, the album pays a beautiful homage to strong female role models. A masterful tribute to Nina Simone, Nina includes an eerie cut of Strange Fruit. Featuring a collection of historical footnotes, the celebratory and uplifting track is the perfect tribute to the late singer. Featuring everyone from J. Cole to Queen Latifah, the album continues Rapsody’s exploration of female power. Cleo, a song about the unfairness of sexism, sees her sounding unstoppable and liberated. Dedicated to fictional bank robber Cleo Sims, the hardhitting banger is sprinkled with samples of the 1981 Phil Collins hit In The Air Tonight. The song sees the North Carolina native speaking to her critics and revealing she hasn’t always felt comfortable in the culture she so effortlessly carries. From the cascading album opener to the preceding proverbial masterpieces, the intricately woven details and heart touching lyrics make Eve a true triumph!

A raw and vulnerable celebration of relationships and emotions, Common’s latest offering will have you in your feelings. Having always worn his heart on his sleeve, the Chicago-hailing rapper, actor and activist goes all out on his newest album. Tackling the singer’s relationships with himself, his past romantic relationships as well as with his daughter, Let Love is all about embracing love in all forms. HER Love, featuring guest appearances from Daniel Caesar and Dwele is the rapper’s ode to HipHop history. Also featuring an unreleased beat from J Dilla, the song talks about the important women in Common’s life. Teaming up with Swizz Beatz, Hercules showcases the toughest cut on the album. Swizz is relatively calmer and more soulful than his usual hook work, while Common spins a complicated rhyme scheme that is reminiscent of his earlier work. Offering spiritual depth, soul and dimension, Common truly challenges himself and goes deeper than ever on Let Love.

Set against the backdrop of postwar Switzerland, the novel centres on a boarding school in the Appenzell. The narrator begins to describe the life of a remorseless young Eve, being a captive of the school, as well as her designs to win the affections of the apparently perfect new girl, Fréderique. As she broods over her intentions and the level and nature of control, the novel takes a suspended, unsettling energy. A beautifully worded read!

AN EVERLASTING DREAM There are few places on the planet that take your breath away in an instance, but Samujana Villas in Koh Samui is definitely one of them as FACT's Edward Smith finds out...

Where The Magic Started From Bangkok, we flew directly to Koh Samui island with Bangkok Airways. The trip was short and pleasant – even though it was only one hour, they still served us a lunch! I thought that was a nice touch. Koh Samui has long evolved from its hippy roots to become a chic destination for luxury travellers. It is a pretty large island and it took about an hour to go half way round by taxi.

Luxury Home Away From Home Staying at Samujana Villas was like an incredible dream that we never wanted to wake up from. We stayed four nights in one of 54

the beautiful five-bedroom villas perched on the hillside with our private rooftop complete with infinity pool overlooking the Gulf of Thailand – what more is there to paradise? Set in the northeast of the island and only 10 minutes away from the airport, Samujana’s charming villas offer modern Thai architecture and breath-taking views. Each of the 26 villas comes with its own private butler and 24-hour hotel services. Our days were spent in pure relaxation watching movies in our private cinema and tanning at our private pool while our choice of food was being prepared on site by the very friendly and efficient private butler. A service that we absolutely recommend

every traveller to experience when visiting Thailand and Samujana gets it just right. Ranging from three to eight bedrooms, with airconditioning throughout, fully-equipped kitchens and reception rooms with state-of-the art multimedia and sound systems, Samujana really provides an unparalleled luxury experience with one motto: “Your Place. Your Time.” True to these words, we felt like time had stood still and we were in a bubble of comfort taking things easy and REALLY relaxing, disconnected from the outside world and our digital devices. Many villas also include jacuzzis, private gyms, pool tables and private spas, making it the perfect place for friends and family to gather and have a great time. Those looking for the utmost privacy will appreciate the in-villa facilities, especially when all you want to do is take it easy and spend quality time with loved ones. The resort is just a short taxi ride to some exciting activities in the area…

Adventure-seekers Unite On Koh Samui there are numerous little city centres and they all have their own charm and vibe. With local markets to explore, plenty of restaurants to dine at (if you can tear yourself away from the private butler service), and even the beloved Starbucks. There is something to quell any travellers’ wanderlust on this island paradise: amazing viewpoints, beautiful beaches and tons of watersports. As for the activities involving water, we would recommend Ang Thong National Marine Park which is the perfect location for watersports fans. Many tourism agencies offer day trips to the park on which you can kayak, snorkel, hike to viewpoints and relax 56

Chaweng stands out for several reasons, it is the most lively neighbourhood in Koh Samui; it is geared towards those who love to party and socialise. Once it gets dark, Chaweng has the liveliest party scene in Koh Samui which is also unique as most of the bars and clubs are along the beach. You can party all night and then leave the club and lay on the beach in the early a.m. - a set up that was appealing to droves of visitors. PALATIAL PORTUGAL

Conjuring up images of fresh seafood, custard tarts and long stretches of sandy beaches dotted with secluded coves, Portugal is a travel gem that FACT’s David Tapley visited this summer. Here, he checks into the picturesque Tivoli Avenida Liberdade followed by the bona fide palace Tivoli Palacio de Seteais‌ fact magazine

isbon, known for its authenticity and mix of old customs and ancient history is remarkably safe, easy to navigate and where the temperature rarely drops below 15°C. The Portuguese capital is not only aesthetically beautiful but benefits from the majority of tourist attractions and points of interest being concentrated in a relatively compact area within the heart of the city. Follow the route of the yellow no. 28 tram into historic Alfama, a district wedged between the Sao Jorge Castle and the Tejo river and you’ll discover one of the oldest neighbourhoods. Characterised by winding passageways that lead to unsigned local tascas, centuries-old churches and Roman ruins, Alfama is the kind of place that is best explored on foot but be prepared to get lost in the labyrinth of streets, but fear not, it’s all part of the fun. Beneath Alfama lies the Avenida Liberdade, the place to see and be seen in Lisbon and home to the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, 62

a five-star property boasting a timeless elegance that has been offering a unique style of Portuguese hospitality for over 80 years. The 1.5km thoroughfare is recognised as being one of the most expensive shopping boulevards in Europe where the likes of Luis Vuitton and Gucci are just moments walk from the hotel. Continue a little further and you’ll find the Estação de Rossio train Station, the touristic Elevador de Santa Justa and several excellent restaurants such as José Avillez’ Belcanto, which currently holds the no. 42 position on the world’s 50 best restaurants’ ranking. A recent €15 million refurbishment project has been undertaken to bring modern touches to this iconic property and ensure the utmost levels of comfort are maintained for guests checking-in to the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade. Passing through the glass sliding doors we are immediately enveloped by a sense of calm that offers a complete juxtaposition from the busy avenue outside. The reception area is engulfed in fresh floral blooms and an abundance

of soft furnishings which have been lovingly spaced throughout the large glass atrium. Turquoise curtains dangle seductively from the upper levels, while gold embellishment surrounds a small bar which is reflected in the elevators. Transporting guests into the upper reaches of the property where a collection of 285 rooms and suites await. Beautifully appointed, all room categories feature a classic design to enhance the feeling of urban luxury and are spacious and elegantly furnished with large comfortable double beds, a terrace or patio and a living area to relax and put your feet up after a day or exploration or shopping until you quite literally drop. Rooms and suites feature all of the expected modern comforts - flatscreen televisions, mini bar, electronic safe. It’s evident that a lot of thought has gone into the modernisation of the property and simple touches such as the inclusion of Bulgari and Hermès amenities in the suites help to elevate the Tivoli experience and cement the reputation of the landmark property. Outside of the room there’s plenty to explore with an outdoor swimming pool situated in a tropical garden at the rear of the property. This oasis of calm offers a small circular pool surrounded by vegetation and plenty of sun-loungers. Lower level guests will find a state-of-the-art fitness centre and the Anantara Spa, a first for the Portuguese capital and a serene environment that encourages introspection and a focus on wellbeing. Six treatment rooms act as a temporary haven and combine the far-eastern therapies for which the Anantara brand is renowned, with indigenous Portuguese rituals. If your stay only allows for one treatment, we’d suggest soothing those aching muscles with the Anantara Signature Massage, using natural oils, combined with purpose-designed movements, to stimulate circulation and promote deep relaxation, while restoring the flow of energy along the meridian lines. Living up to a reputation as one of the city’s most popular meeting places, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade offers several exciting dining options. The classical Cervejaria Liberdade is the hotels’ all-daydining option and while breakfast offers up a live egg station, charcuterie and a plethora of pastel de nata, it’s the al la carte service of Portuguese coastal seafood specialities that piqued our interest. Traditionally cervejarias are small bars that also sell

food items and here the idea has been upscaled and expanded into a fine dining setting where plates of cured meat compete with a resplendent Arraiolos Sheeps Milk Cheese that is buttery in flavour and accompanied by a sweet pumpkin jam. Cervejaria Liberdade is also the place to try the traditional pica pau, a dish of rich and flavorful chopped beef loin served with home-made French fries and the pots of aromatic seafood rice piled high with crawfish lobster, clams and mussels. For a livelier experience, head to the Sky Bar for sundowners overlooking Lisbon’s terracotta rooftops. Much like the lobby downstairs, it’s a popular meeting place with an energetic DJ and some of the best mixed-drinks you’re likely to find in the capital. Chefpreneur Olivier da Costa’s second Scene restaurant (following a successful opening in Sao Paulo, Brazil) is anchored around an art-deco inspired dining room featuring plenty of foliage and a tree raising from the central bar area. It’s an exciting space to frequent and a sense of frivolity overcomes the restaurant which serves up an exciting menu that fuses the best of Brazil and Portugal into an eclectic selection of dishes that also supports a Japanese sushi bar. There’s a freshness to the Alaskan King crab tacos that is hard to replicate, while the octopus carpaccio is alive with flavours thanks to a vibrant lemon vinaigrette, yet it’s the lesser-known Brazilian dishes that have us enraptured. From the simply moreish deep-fried tapioca with cured cheese through to a show-stopping dessert of dulce de leche soufflé with guava ice cream, that would have had us licking the bowl were it not for the high-end clientele perched on the tables in our vicinity. We split our trip and found ourselves in the sleepy mountain town of Sintra for the latter half of our Portuguese adventures. Forested mountainsides, elaborate villas and castles precariously perched on mountain tops are all part and parcel of a visit to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sintra. The home of royalty, Sintra adopts a slower pace and feels more restrained than Lisbon and late afternoons (following the departure of tour buses and daytrippers) is the ideal time for culture vultures to strap on their walking boots and explore. Steeped in history our base during our all too short stay was an actual Palace! The Tivoli Palacio de Seteais is a rare find of a hotel having been built in the 18th century in a neoclassical style by the then Dutch Consul in Portugal. During the 19th century, several 64

distinguished Portuguese families lived in the Palace including the fifth Marquis of Marialva, who built the triumphal arch linking the two wings. Then in 1953 the Palace was converted into a hotel. With just 30 rooms, the experience of staying in a palace is one of refined luxury that features exemplary levels of service and rooms that have been tastefully modernised while still retaining their characteristic features and period furniture. Timberframed windows, deep bathtubs, rich tapestries and a collection of artworks provide the rooms with a sense of timelessness that exemplifies the properties natural charm. Our superior room overlooking orchards of lemon trees evokes a sense of venturing back in time with its creaky wooden floorboards, heavy-set curtains and a wooden bed that all add to the charm of feeling like pampered royalty. We spent many hours exploring the ballrooms and expansive grounds, home to hedge mazes, herb gardens and a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, cut into the mountainside and offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Similar to Lisbon, the Anantara Spa Tivoli Palácio de Seteais is the place to unwind and features only two treatment rooms for an exclusive clientele. When guests enter the spa, it is given over in its entirety - something we’ve not experienced before. The spa is situated inside a circular pigeon-house that has been converted into a quaint and intimate space where treatments are more specialised and many of the products are made from natural ingredients hand-picked from the hotel grounds. With only one dining option on site, the Seteais Restaurant is regarded as one of Sintra’s very best and treats diners to a royal experience complete with pressed white table clothes, dainty

cutlery, gold crockery and a menu of Portuguese favourites that have been reinterpreted and elevated to match the palatial dining room. Roasted duck magret, braised codfish and octopus are all prevalent on the menu and bookings are essential. Lisbon and Sintra are ideal for a combined visit to Portugal and are more than likely to leave you yearning to return. Providing guests with unrestrained luxury, high levels of service, excellent food and beverage and discretion, Tivoli hotels also offer several luxury properties along the Portuguese Algarve as well as in hotels further afield. Tivoli is undeniably a brand with a unique sense of style that embodies the warmth of Portuguese hospitality with its eyes firmly set on expansion. ✤

SUV EXCELLENCE:

THE ALL-NEW BMW X7

fact magazine

67

Already considered by many as the ultimate automotive brand, BMW continues to earn its reputation as the most distinct car manufacturer in its segment by giving customers the chance to get their hands on the classiest SUV in town - the all-new BMW X7 - setting higher standards of sophistication. FACT was ready to take the head-turning vehicle out for a drive…

O

ver the last 100 years, BMW has produced a multitude of iconic vehicles and have solidified their reputation as one of the finest automobile manufacturers on the planet. When FACT heard about a brand-new BMW model arriving in the UAE, we knew we had to organise a test drive as soon as was possible. Thanks to the amazing team at BMW Dubai, we soon found ourselves standing in front of the imposing BMW X7. The all-new BMW X7 xDrive50i is the brand’s latest SUV offering, one that hopes to set new standards in the luxury SUV segment. The first feature we noticed about this model was its size. At 5,151 millimetres long, 2,000 millimetres wide and 1,805 millimetres tall, this car is clearly no toy. Despite its bulky demeanour, the classy exterior design of this vehicle is obvious and proudly displays many impressive properties. The bold lines of the front end draw the eyes down the bonnet towards an especially large BMW roundel and the largest kidney grille to date. This gives the vehicle a distinguished

feel. The attractive front LED lights are fitted as standard. The BMW X7’s high ground clearance combined with the fitted 22inch, light-alloy wheels, bolsters its commanding presence. The large windows and long roofline accentuate the size of this SUV whilst the beautifully designed fender vents add a touch of class to its flanks. The master designers at BMW have used horizontal lines to break up the bulky dimensions of the rear, and features including a lower rear bumper, wrap around tail lamps and chrome tip exhausts ensure the quality of the exterior is consistent. In fact, an array of attractive chrome finishes are to found from one end of the BMW X7 to the other, plainly stating BMW’s intention to deliver a truly deluxe motor vehicle. The optional smart key for the BMW X7 allows one to perform basic functions such as locking, unlocking and opening of the boot, provides information on the car’s current status and allows one to alter various internal car settings. Once inside the BMW X7, it was obvious that BMW have managed to create a luxurious SUV, one that is set to rival the very best in the segment. The X7 is BMW’s very first 7-seater and no expense has been spared to ensure its extravagance. The Ivory White / Night Blue colour combo of the cabin, along with the soft leather seating and solid blue steering wheel were superb. Glass effects on the shift lever, start/stop button and the volume knob emphasise the one-of-a-kind nature of this grand SUV. The superior build quality of the entire cabin along with the use of highest-end materials and intricate finishings elevate the BMW X7 to a standard of luxury not easily matched. In truth, we could not find a single feature in this car that fell short of the premium benchmark. A massive amount of space is to be found in the second row of seating where three large adults can sit comfortably. The third row of seats offer ample room and all seating throughout the vehicle is heated. A three-section panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting and

a four-zone climate control are fitted as standard. The boot is a generous size, instantly increased by the simple push of a button located within. By pressing and holding the max cargo button, the back two rows of seats fold down, hugely increasing the boot’s holding capacity. By pressing and holding the max seating button, both rows return to their upright position. The top of the dash houses a huge touchscreen that allows access to the latest version of iDrive. This version is very user-friendly with hugely impressive graphics and resolution. The fully digital instrument cluster and Control Display situated in front of the driver both feature a 12.3-inch screen. This system is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and ensures one has a positive, interactive experience. The BMW X7 M50i is powered by a V8, 4.4 twin-turbo charged engine that produces 462 hp and 650 Nm of torque. This allows the car to bullet from 0-100 km/h in around 5.3 seconds, making longer highway drives a breeze! Despite its weight, the BMW X7 carries itself gracefully and offers acceleration, breaking and stability of the highest standard. Along with the fantastic driving performance, the BMW X7 features a full range of stateof-the-art driver assistance systems, especially designed to keep you in control and safe throughout the driving experience. As far as SUVs go, BMW has taken its time and delivered a vehicle that impresses on both the inside and outside. The BMW X7 is made for everyone from the young professional to the working mum with a small family, and even BMW veterans looking to take their driving experience up a notch. The BMW X7 is a truly remarkable offering, one that is set to have a major impact on the luxury SUV segment. ✤

MORE THAN A MYTH

You know how there’s always that one restaurant that you hear about for so long - it’s on everyone’s insta stories, people are talking about it, it’s popping up all over social media - but you just never got around to visiting the place? The one that makes you want to roundhouse kick yourself in the face for waiting so long when you finally get there? That’s how we feel about Mythos Kouzina & Grill. Finally, FACT's Shabana Adam took a seat for a quick trip to Greece… fact magazine

• CULINARY SPOTLIGHT

L

ocated in JLT at Armada BlueBay Hotel, Mythos Kouzina & Grill is a little piece of classy, vibrant dining in an otherwise loud and brash food scene. The unassuming restaurant even has a rather covert walkway leading to its entrance. Agreeable to the name, they have one of the most authentic Greek menus here, full to the brim with items for every dietary requirement and palate preference. The dining room is intimate yet inviting as natural light penetrates through the large windows throughout the outlet, there’s a part of the restaurant which doubles as a sunroom, giving the illusion of being outside and the tables and chairs are reminiscent of Greek tavernas where simplicity is key. The ceiling is made up of light wood panelling and elegant lighting gives the whole place a street chic vibe. Our favourite part of the decor has to be the stunning, scattered floor tiles and ornament fruit bowls which allow Mythos Kouzina to be a wonderful choice for a romantic date or a nice meal out with friends - either in their spacious main room, or indeed on the front patio that is sure to draw the who’s who of Dubai’s elite food community. Regardless, a reservation is definitely recommended. Before we talk about the food, we want to talk about the service. It was phenomenal. There are really only a handful of restaurants in Dubai’s saturated market that truly understand the importance of service, and Mythos Kouzina is one of them. From the minute we walked in, right up to the point we left with happy full bellies, the staff were attentive, extremely polite, kept our table clean, and our glasses full. It’s a difficult thing to balance without being too intrusive on the guests, but the entire team was on the same page and we saw them put in consistent effort for each table around us. This is testament to the rapport that is integral - and showcased - throughout Mythos Kouzina. Of course, it only made the food better, not that it needed any help. Mythos Kouzina’s menu is designed with the Greek way of eating in mind - a sharing concept, the dishes are all served in hearty portions right in the middle of the table for you to enjoy amongst friends and family. It's important to note that the menu celebrates the very best of fresh, hand-selected produce alongside cooking methods that are pure, light and healthy. For appetisers, we started with Melitzanosalata (AED35), grilled eggplant tossed with tomato, onion, garlic and fine herbs, seasoned with red balsamic; hand cut Greek Fries (AED22) sprinkled with sea salt and oregano; Grilled Calamari (AED40) with lemon-olive oil sauce; and the ever-famous Leek Pies (AED37) with homemade filo and graviera cheese. We pretty much “mmmh” and “aaah” our way through the lot. Tip: use the delicious fries to scoop up the flavourpacked eggplant and another useful word of advice - you might not want to share the leek pies - they are golden pockets of perfection. The refreshing Santorini Salad (AED41) is just what you need on a humid Dubai afternoon. Packed with cherry tomatoes and capers, roasted capsicum and spring onion, served with toasted pita bread topped with graviera cheese, and sweet grape vinaigrette. It’s, to simply put it, the salad of dreams. Although, it was their Biftekia (AED72) Greek-Style burgers made of beef and lamb, flavoured with herbs and served with sautéed potatoes that well and truly stole our hearts as the wonderfully seasoned meat was surprisingly light and still very satisfying.

84

fact magazine

The piece de resistance for us, undoubtedly, was the showstopping Mousaka (AED69) made with minced lamb and beef, topped with béchamel sauce - a moreish main that melts-in-your-mouth instantaneously. The next round of applause is to spotlight the delectable cooked-overnight Beef Stifado (AED103) short ribs with shallots and red grape. Now, this is the dish that you brag about the next time you see your friends as the tender meat falls apart in front of your very eyes with a feathered touch of your fork. Just when we thought we couldn't devour anything more, our sweet tooth betrayed us in the best way possible... ordering dessert. The Galaktobourekakia (say it fast) is crispy filo pastry rolls filled with vanilla custard served with homemade aromatic syrup (AED42) - it was the highlight of the entire meal. Crispy texture meets creamy filling for a gorgeous, subtle taste that would have us coming back to Mythos Kouzina for this alone. The Traditional Baklava (AED42) also holds it down for the Greeks being a strong contender on the desserts list. The menu also includes plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian choices too, plus there’s more classic items in the form of gyros, souvlaki, and grills. Visit at lunchtime and enjoy three courses (a dip, starter and main) for AED70 or try the lunch express for AED45 which includes a salad and your choice of gyros. It was with a heavy heart and a full stomach that we pulled ourselves up towards the exit, contemplating our next visit even before we stepped out of the doors. ✤

S

teering clear of all the Spanish cliches; there’s no signs of bullfighting, flamenco or castanets here - Bebemos Bar De Tapas brings Spain’s most famous food export to Dubai, without all the theatrics but instead a focus on the traditions of Spanish life. Keeping things colourful and relaxed, Bebemos marries robust flavours of the region with its extraordinary artistic heritage. The dining philosophy is a nod to the Barcelona way of life and the popular culture of socialising and sharing tapas - small portions of a variety of dishes - amid friendly banter and sangrias. The venue is a sight to behold; splashes of colour highlight the artistic and Neo-modern duality inspired by Spanish painter Joan Miró’s modernist sensibilities. Exposed brick walls, classic Spanish tiling, traditional window shutters, arches that exude vibrancy, and even colourful crates hanging above the bar - Bebemos carries the vivid spirit of Spain with a laid-back attitude. Exotic favourites range from the North's seafoodfocused cuisine to Central Spain's assorted roast meat specialities. The menu’s strengths lie in its ability to retain authentic tapas flavours served in mainland Spain, using speciality ingredients, including Bomba rice, olive oil, Ñora peppers, amongst others, sourced directly from Spain. Diners can expect an assorted fare of crisp, golden brown croquetas, robustly flavoured bombas, as well as a selection of bravas, including alluring renditions of crab ensalada, fried calamari, and octopus that are just as surprising and delicious to taste as they are artsy to the eye. Home to a large live paella grill, guests can take their pick from five different types of paellas, with proteins ranging from assorted seafood to crustaceans as well as chicken and artichokes. We start with the iconic Potato Bravas (AED35) and Padron Peppers with Rock Salt (AED33), both are excellent options for vegetarian diners and equally tasty, setting our palates up for the oncoming slew of dishes. Baby Spinach with Cabrales Cheese, Caramelised Walnuts and Quince (AED52) is every salad-lover’s fantasy. Incredibly fresh, the strong blue cheese flavour beautifully complements the extra rich and crunchy walnuts - we could eat this every day. Of course, there’s no tapas without Fried Calamari (AED49), and here it was the spicy mayonnaise that elevated every mouthful. The Prawn Al Ajillo (AED70) has to be one of our favourites - a dish that seafood fans will appreciate. Coated in garlic, the ubiquitously Spanish dish is slightly smoky and perfectly juicy - highly recommended. Spanish Omelette with Piquillo Peppers (AED30) is next and with a golden brown texture and a fluffy bite, Bebemos reminded us why this dish is universally fantastic. The best surprise comes in the form of Broken Eggs with mushroom (AED41) - also available with other meaty fillings - a popular dish called Huevos Rotos,

widely consumed in taverns all across Spain. Hearty and very memorable. We adored the Black Rice with Calamari, Prawns and Clams (AED99), unlink a few other places in Dubai where the paella is served in a gigantic dish, here it is kept manageable, with a portion that would easily please a table of three to four people. This one-pan menu item is an instant crowd pleaser - moreish but not stodgy, the chefs have created a harmonious mix of ingredients. The Grilled Sea Bass with Asparagus and Romesco Sauce (AED125) is a blend of flavours that we didn’t realise we had been craving - stunning. Whilst the Chuleton Prime Ribs 1kg Sharing (AED420) added the tender touch of cooked meat to top off a fabulous choice of mains. Bebemos convinced us that when Churros (AED42) are done right, they can literally blow your tastebuds away. But, it was the fluffy-as-a-cloud Torrija with Vanilla Ice Cream (AED38), the Spanish take on French toast, that had us in complete silence, vying for every last bit of food on the plate. An absolute must-try for dessert enthusiasts. Bebemos also honours the cosmopolitan side of Spain in its beverage offerings. Housed with an expansive selection of signature Spanish sips, the assorted spirits and libations are nuanced with select molecular ingredients, highlighting the artistic and neo-modern duality from Barcelona. It was difficult to fault the food and the service at Bebemos which, unlike its dining counterparts at the hotel, is still a fairly new concept that is slowly making a mark. We hope the footfall picks up and more people start paying attention to the excellent cuisine being served up here, which is as authentic as it gets. ✤ fact magazine

f the funky colours won’t do it, the warm welcome of the friendly staff will; it takes just seconds to feel at home in Wise Kwai as we sit down at a booth-style table, ready to order (we’ve already done an online search and scanned the menu). Always do your homework, or in our case - be prepared for all the food. First off, the restaurant has a real hawker centre meets casual cafe vibes - there’s a subtle nod to Far-East cinema; exposed brick walls, elaborate frilled drapes, vintage cameras hung up and even fragments of metal film reels, lining the walls. The colour of chairs are mismatched in perfect synchrony and extra large, round psychedelic-patterned plates hang above most tables where placemats are an ode to film posters of a time gone by. In short, this place is super cool and insta-ready. We can also say the same about the food. Paying homage to the dynamic street food scene of Thailand, Wise Kwai stays true to its roots with a menu that celebrates all the wonderful treats you can stop to try on the streets of the aptly-named Land of Smiles. We’re talking moreish spring rolls, skewers of satay chicken, creamy coconut soup, grilled fish, glass noodles and everything in between. We get stuck right in with the Neua Phayu Foon (AED50) - strips of marinated crispy beef in roasted rice served with Thai north-eastern sauce and chilli sauce on the side. This is a classic textural explosion of chewy flavours - we can imagine walking through the night markets in Bangkok with a box of these in hand. Next, a staple of Thai salads - if Wise Kwai can do the Som Tam Thai (AED50) right, they’re half way to being the real deal. Of course, this is the popular Thai green papaya salad with roasted nuts and cherry tomatoes - a concoction of super fresh ingredients and simple flavours that just go so, so well together. There’s crunch and subtle tanginess from the papaya, whilst the nuts and tomatoes add an earthy escape for your palate. Then comes the one dish that can make or break any Thai restaurant - the Tom Yam Gung (AED60) - a generous bowl full of hot spicy and sour prawn soup with mushroom, chilli and Thai herbs. This is somewhat of a biblical dish in Thailand and one of the best soups in the world, in our humble foodie opinion. Here, the best thing is the richness of the spice and herbs which act as instant sinus-clearing ingredients - great for anyone with a cold. Also, we love that the chef has not skimped on the amount of shrimp in the soup - something that we’ve often experienced elsewhere - at Wise Kwai, it’s shrimps for days! So far, so good. We take a little time to digest before the next round of food and wander onto the restaurant’s very urban-inspired terrace. Fairy lights give the place an ethereal persona with large wooden cratebenches topped with colourful cushions making up the seating. We can absolutely see this place being an after-work hangout for the cool crowd of young professionals when the cooler climate comes through. In we go for the main act of the evening. We’ll start with our highlight of the meal: Plan Neung Ma Nao (AED125) - steamed fish with coriander, garlic, lime and chilli sauce. IT. IS. BREATH-TAKING. The white fish is tender and bathing in all the simple yet mouthwatering flavours that we love. The entire presentation screams Thailand and the taste goes beyond our expectations. With a side of Pad Pad Ruam Mit (AED50) - stirfried mixed vegetables and shiitake mushroom in oyster sauce - it

doesn’t get more Thai than this. The crisp vegetables alongside the delicately-cooked fish go beautifully together! You can’t come to a Thai restaurant and not have a curry - it’s practically against the rules. We order the Keaw Wan Gai Neua, Gung Rue Ped Yang (say it all together). This is the classic Thai green curry which can be made with your choice of chicken, beef, prawn or roasted duck - AED 55, 65, 70, 75, respectively. We go for beef following our server’s recommendation and there’s no regrets. The curry also has eggplant and sweet basil, adding to the milder, pungent taste - perfect for those who don’t want to go allthe-way-spicy to the Thai red curry. A side of Khao Suay (AED20) - steamed Jasmine rice, is the perfect accompaniment. We end this culinary trip with Khao Niew Ma Muang (AED50) - sweet mango with sticky rice and coconut cream. It’s a light and pleasant dessert that also doubles as a palate cleanser after the assault of aromas and tastes we’ve encountered at Wise Kwai. The service is consistently impressive and every dish had something special about it, making sure that the unique qualities of Thailand are presented to you in the most traditional way. Wise Kwai manages to do the one thing that many venues struggle to - it keeps things down-to-earth and genuinely authentic. ✤

BEAUTY ON FLEEK A regular go-to for so many ladies in the UAE, Tips & Toes has become an institution within the wellness community, providing top-notch treatments for the body, face, nails, hair and more. FACT's Shabana Adam was intrigued by their latest offers and went to see if this iconic spot still lives up to the hype…

T

here is nothing like holding up your ice cream on a hot UAE day at golden hour, only to showcase a fresh manicure. We’ve all done it for the ‘gram - but have you thought about taking a picture of your perfectly-painted talons in the dark? Yes, lights off, no sunshine needed. This is exactly what Tips and Toes' newest treatment - Glow in The Dark (GITD) nails - will encourage you to do. Here goes… I arrive at the branch ready to choose my colours. The staff are, as always, welcoming and friendly - offering tea and coffee and showing me to the area of the moment - where all the GITD shades sit beside hues for shellac and basic manicures. You can immediately tell the difference as there is a slight neon tinge to these options - already love it. Opting for a subtle minty green and low-key pastel peach, I’m ready to get creative, asking for the first colour on the thumb and three fingernails, and for the latter to be used on solely the ring finger. You can even apply the GITD colours as nail art - secret messages, anyone? The treatment begins with a regular file, shape and clean followed by precision application by my therapist, Myla, who has the steadiest hands of a nail technician that I’ve ever witnessed. She’s also super accommodating and professional which adds to the whole experience, allowing me to further sink into the comfy chair and rest my eyes for a short while. A much-needed hand and arm massage signals the end of the treatment and voila - summer brights to make my hands standout in the day, then an electrifying twist takes my nail game to a whole new level by night. I. Am. Here. For. It! Launched in all Tips & Toes salons, Glow In The Dark nails are available in TITO Gel meaning the fun will last for up to two glowing weeks - in fact, writing this as I enter the second glowsome week, there’s a good chance that these will make it to three, minimum. Tips and Toes is all about the fun - looking

SPA & WELLNESS • work or a long weekend of dancing. For me, the result was perfect. My hairdresser, Ruwangi, was an expert in suggesting the best Boho Hair style to suit my hair length and type. She did a wonderful job of securing the braids and making sure I left the salon with a clean and completely exclusive head-turning hairstyle - the amount of compliments ensued on social media and at a casual work event were testament to her techniques. Tips and Toes is reputed for its consistent service and welltrained technicians - these two new treatments are proof of this. If you’re looking to funk up your hair or nails - or you’re not quite ready to let go of the summer feeling just yet - both the Glow in The Dark nails and the Boho Hair will remind you that every time of the year is a good time for a little bit of creativity in your beauty regime. ✤

for new one-of-a-kind treatments to keep customers’ beauty choices exciting and elevated. The GITD nails are definitely more than insta-worthy - they are a talking point - one that will make you the centre of attention in a very beautiful way. Next, I make my way into the hair salon for something that is literally the most exciting thing to happen to my mop in years no exaggeration. As someone who loves any style that involves braids, the Boho Hair trend is right up my street. Only problem - I have quite thin hair so any cool style on paper doesn’t really translate to my hair as I imagine it to. Here, we start with a deep wash where a generous scalp massage makes me wish I was heading for an afternoon slumber. Alas, to the chair it is. At Tips and Toes, they’ve created a new menu filled with different designs for free-spirited ladies with a penchant for unique hairstyles. Sit back and relax as your stylist gets to work - I did. I chose to have two dutch braids coming from a middle parting and meeting in the middle where the hair was “half and half” and sections of it were wrapped in yellow string and weaved out for a bouncy effect. Never happy with just the basics, the hair team at Tips & Toes have also created a selection of stylish add-ons. Think string in a variety of shades to add a pop of colour to your look, Kela beads, hair slides or even a dreamcatcher charm to really offer up some extra bohemian vibes. With eight new styles to choose from this is the perfect low maintenance, high-impact hairstyle. For those willing to put in some care, the style can also survive a busy week of

TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING MAINTAINING YOUR BOHO HAIR STYLE Catherine Hawkes, Hair Artistic Director for Tips & Toes 1. Sleep on a silk pillowcase, this will keep your hair from becoming untidy. 2. Always use a shower cap. The next day I also advise adding some dry shampoo to the root of the hair to make sure it doesn’t look greasy. Reapply as required. 3. I love adding a little shine spray such as Schwarzkopf’s sparkler formula to keep the ends of the braid looking fresh.
