Dreaming Of Cooler Days
‘I’m not into fashion, but I like design. I wear the same shoes every day.’ – Tyler, The Creator “
The end of summer is finally in sight, thank goodness, and I bet, like us, you’re more than ready for some cooler weather.
For me, the drop in temperatures means an excuse to go shopping for some of the new season’s latest fashions. If you’re looking for inspiration for your autumn wardrobe, head to our cover story where you’ll find trends, designer thoughts and tips from those in the know.
For our second feature this month, we’re looking out for the lads. When we think of spas, the picture that comes to mind is, all too often, of ladies of leisure being perfectly pampered. But, I have it on good authority, that guys are just as partial to a bit of spoiling, from facials to massage and more. So, we’ve checked out some of the best men’s treatments around. I hope you enjoy them.
Our dining pages this month take a short tour of the globe with dishes from South America, at Fuego, India, at Masala Library, and Italy, at The Italian Job. We’ve also got details of lots of new season dining deals, make sure you take a look.
And don’t miss our staycation feature, in which one of my lovely colleagues got to check out the top-notch accommodation at Le Méridien City Center, Doha – spoiler, she had a great time.
We’ve stuck with hospitality in the travel pages with ideas for foodie adventures. I need absolutely no excuse for planning another trip to Italy, but, if one were necessary, then a culinary adventure in Tuscany would certainly do the job. Where would be your pick?
Elsewhere this month, we’ve got a couple of great arts interviews – we chatted to the director who’s helping bring The Doha Players’ latest production to life and also Hadi Assoum of Qatar-based band Caravan Dream, who are climbing the charts with their latest release.
You’ll also find the latest updates from the worlds of tech and motoring as well as news from around the city.

A MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE
Qatar Sustainability Week will be back from September 28 encouraging individuals and organisations to do their bit towards a greener, cleaner future.
Now in its ninth edition, over the past eight years, more than 600,000 members of the public have joined in with events held across the country as part of the national campaign. The week aims to be a movement for change, bringing together leaders, activists, workers and school and university students to contribute to Qatar's journey towards a more sustainable future. Organisations wanting to take part simply have to decide what they would like to do – such as run an awareness campaign, organise a competition, promote activities within the workspace either for colleagues, clients or the public – and then register the initiative, event or activity at www.qatarsustainabilityweek.com/qsw/register Organiser Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future has put together a range of activity examples that have proved popular during previous editions.
For example, sustainable activities for organisations could involve creating a Green Action Committee; Lunch and Learn – bringing in a speaker to educate on adopting a sustainable lifestyle; the encouragement of using public transport or carpooling; eliminating
single-use plastics and making recycling facilities available. Communities are encouraged to start a community garden, create recycled art, take part in clean-ups, participate in book swaps and walk or cycle more frequently.
The suggestions are similar for schools and colleges and they are additionally recommended to monitor and track water and energy use, organise eco tours to raise awareness of Qatar’s marine life as well as days out to facilities such as Qatar Museums’ Energy Park and Kahramaa Awareness Park.
And the country’s significant hospitality sector is also urged to get involved through activities such as healthy eating cooking classes, reduction of food waste, establishment of organic and community gardens and pursuit of Green Hotel certification. We’d love to hear how you and your organisation will be taking part. ✤

ARABIC – AN INTELLECTUAL EXPLORATION
Media Majlis Museum’s latest exhibition examines the Arabic language, its imprints from the past, its multifaceted present and its precarious future.
The museum, at Northwestern University in Qatar, has unveiled its eighth mixed-media exhibition, titled ‘The Limits of My Language Are the Limits of My World’.
The thought-provoking showcase, curated by cultural producer and Northwestern Qatar alumna Amal Zeyad Ali, (pictured left above with Museum Director Alfredo Cramerotti) delves into the Arabic language – its historical roots, its multifaceted presence today and the uncertainties it faces in the future.
The exhibition will be on display until December 5, from Sunday to Thursday 10am to 8pm. It offers visitors an interesting observation into one of the world’s most influential languages.
In keeping with the museum’s mission to integrate art, media and technology, the expo explores Arabic through various lenses, including its impact on global culture in which it has historically shaped tastes, perceptions and narratives worldwide across culture, politics, social relations, trade and science. However, in today's evermore digital and globalised world where English increasingly prevails, Arabic faces significant challenges mainly owing to misrepresentation.
This exhibition provides an opportunity to reflect on Arabic’s enduring significance and to consider its future trajectory. Revolving around four key themes, it offers an immersive journey and thoughtful reflection. The first theme, ‘Always another side?’, introduces the Arabic language and its complexities, challenging the often negative stereotypes associated with it by highlighting its beauty, diversity and cultural richness. It allows for a re-framing of the language and showcases that there is always another side.
The second theme, ‘An influential and powerful language?’,
explores Arabic's influence as a powerful language and its worldwide importance illustrating its impact through linguistic borrowing and cultural exchange. It demonstrates that this process is not always seamless.
The third theme, ‘Does media representation matter?’, examines the portrayal of Arabic in contemporary media, questioning how the language is represented and its prominence in a rapidly globalising, tech-driven world. It asses the availability of and access to Arabic content and media, as well as its quality and quantity.
The final theme, ‘Is Arabic a language of the future?’, discusses the future of Arabic, questioning whether current efforts to preserve, protect and conserve the language are effective and how they can be improved or rethought.
Marwan M. Kraidy, dean and CEO of Northwestern Qatar, said: “By delving into the complexities and evolving influence of Arabic, this exhibition not only celebrates the richness of our cultural heritage but also sparks meaningful dialogue on its future. It aligns seamlessly with our academic mission, providing a platform for critical discussions that resonate deeply within our community and beyond.”
The exhibition also features a diverse array of highly impressive commissioned artworks and interactive elements. And the museum will host a public programme in collaboration with with podcast series afikra, that will focus on Arabic storytelling in various modern contexts. ✤
MAJOR REAL ESTATE EVENT RETURNS
Cityscape Qatar will be back in the capital for its 12th edition in October.

Together they will showcase the country’s dynamic real estate market presenting a diverse portfolio of properties. Last year, the real estate sector in the country saw significant growth, recording 3,579 transactions valued at QR16.703 billion. The vigorous performance came about through various factors, including strong GDP growth, a rising population, ample job opportunities and government policies that actively support the sector.
Among noteworthy project completions were Madinatna in Al Wukair and several towers in Lusail City. Ongoing sales initiatives for developments such as Les Vagues Residences in Qetaifan Island North and Crystal Residence in Gewan Island also reflected the dynamic growth within this sector.
Factors that contribute to making Qatar a compelling investment opportunity include the country’s robust economy and commitment to diversification. With one of the highest GDPs per capita globally, the country’s continued infrastructure development offers lucrative investment opportunities across various sectors. Moreover, the country is known for its business-friendly environment, supported by incentives for foreign investors and a strong regulatory framework.

NEW SEASON FASHION FORWARD
As the heat finally starts to abate and we begin to look forward to autumn and winter, it’s time to start thinking about a wardrobe refresh. We’ve been checking out the Autumn-Winter 2024 catwalks and collections to come up with some of the latest trends. And we also spoke with some of our local fashion talents and ‘names in the know’ to see what’s on their wish lists for the coming months.
The Overview
Maha Ghanim Al Sulaiti, Director of M7, Qatar’s design, fashion and tech hub gives her view on the state of the country’s creative industries.
“With a rapidly developing creative ecosystem, Qatar’s fashion landscape is witnessing a rise in emerging designers who are creating contemporary designs that blend tradition with innovation. The global fashion industry has begun to take notice of these burgeoning talents and the importance of connecting to the local scene, opening doors for exciting collaborations. At M7, we are proud to be at the heart of this momentum, as we actively create initiatives and programmes that nurture and support these visionary creatives to continue to grow and evolve.”
Totally Tailored
The classic gentleman is very much back in town with sharp suiting making several appearances. From dunhill to Fendi Feragamo, Hermès and Brunello Cuncinelli, designers are in love with two- and three-piece ensembles in a range of materials from lightweight wools to heavier gaberdines. The colour palette is mostly sombre in shades of grey, another of this season’s top trends, but we love this fun lilac version from Tom Ford who also presented a stylish midnight blue velvet number.
Suited & Booted
The women’s catwalks too were awash with suits, from Ferragamo’s bright red, safari-style number, to the frou of feathers at Brunello Cucinelli. But though the tailoring is sharp, the details save this trend from stuffiness with bold graphics at KENZO, biker boots accompanying a mini-skirt at Versace and Hugo X Les Benjamins entreating wearers to show just a tiny bit of skin. However you choose to wear your AW 2024 suit, there’s no doubt, it’s one of winter’s most versatile trends.
On The Town
To say there was a lot of skin on show on the AW24 catwalks would be an understatement, with translucent garments leaving little to the imagination. However, for those who prefer a slightly less revealing look, the next big thing looks set to be shimmering metallics as seen at Tom Ford and KENZO. As always, black is still a popular choice for evening wear but, this season, it gets an added twist with feathers at Brunello Cuccinelli and an interesting cut-out neckline at Versace. And, if you’re going for colour, don’t be a shrinking violet, make sure it’s bold and bright.
The Tux of the Matter
The impact of a good tuxedo should never be underestimated, just look at James Bond. And this season, the classic tux got an exciting makeover with the addition of textured fabrics at Tom Ford and Billionaire and gorgeously unexpected colours at Brunello Cucinelli while Coach went for a more relaxed fit. Team your tux with contrasting pants and highly polished shoes or fun pumps for the ultimate in ‘Old Hollywood’ chic.
Skin In The Game
Leather, and its faux companions, is absolutely everywhere this season. From the full-on black, skin suit, complete with black shades, boots and wrist cuffs at Tom Ford, to oversized tan coords at Ferragamo. Buttery soft, designers across the spectrum have played with dimensions and tailoring to render this usually outdoor staple as everyday wear in suits, shirts and more, layered beneath jackets and coats to great effect. Double seaming ensures comfort and flexibility, with the skins appearing almost as high-quality fabric.
The Leatherettes
For women, too, leather is one of the materials of the season coming in a variety of shades and cuts, from the classic black at COS to stunning reds at Versace and a gorgeously hued grey/violet at And Other Stories. Imaginative cuts take the lead coupled with chain belts and matchy, matchy accessories for an overall look that’s feminine but, at the same time, fierce and fashion forward.

The Influencer Eye View
With more than 50,000 followers on his Instagram account @luxurydesign and collabs with brands such as Hermès and Loewe under his belt, Taleb Jassim’s is a fashion opinion worth listening to. FACT quizzed him about the ones to watch for the coming season.
What are the trends you’ve identified for AW24?
One of the standout trends for AW24 is the evolution of the classic trench coat into what we're calling the neo-trench. This piece reinvents the timeless silhouette with modern twists, making it a musthave for the season. Think oversized cuts, unexpected fabric choices, like technical nylons or rich wools, and innovative details such as asymmetrical closures, exaggerated lapels and bold colourways. The neo-trench is designed to be both functional and statement-making, bridging the gap between traditional outerwear and contemporary fashion. It's versatile enough to be dressed up or down, making it a perfect addition to any wardrobe for the colder months ahead. And BIG DENIM! This is my favourite trend right now, and it’s a classic piece that everyone has to have. This season, denim goes beyond just being a staple –it’s all about making a bold statement with oversized, exaggerated silhouettes. Think wide-leg jeans, voluminous jackets and
baggy overalls that hark back to the '90s but with a modern twist.
What are your favourite pieces that represent these trends?
For the neo-trench, it's all about finding a trench coat that pushes the boundaries of traditional design. A perfect example would be a trench in a rich wool blend with asymmetrical buttons and an oversized silhouette or something with a distinct cut and pattern such as this one from Hole Academie.
For the big denim trend, a pair of wide-leg jeans with a vintage wash, such as these from Vetements, stand out. Paired with a chunky knit or a boxy denim jacket, they exude the casual, comfort-driven vibe that defines the season. These jeans are a nod to the past with a modern twist, making them both nostalgic and contemporary These pieces not only represent the trends but also offer versatility and style, allowing wearers to make a statement while staying true to the season’s key themes.
The Stylist’s Take
Rihab Haddar is a Qatar-based stylist, travel enthusiast and fashion commentator who delights in sharing her inspirations with her followers @rihab_qa.
She told us she’s spotted multiple trends for the coming season, many of which highlight a blend of style, comfort and social consciousness.
Some of the main ones to look out for are:
Sustainability: with a focus on ecofriendly materials and ethical production as seen at Stine Goya, which aims to be 95% sustainable within the next year.
Layering and Oversized Silhouettes: the emphasis is on comfort with bulky coats and layered outfits as seen at Prada Monochromatic Looks: head-to-toe single colours with varied textures for depth.
Retro Revival: nostalgic styles from the '70s, '80s and '90s are returning.
Statement Accessories: oversized bags, hats, as seen at CHANEL, and chunky boots are essential.
Gender Fluidity: unisex designs will be seen promoting inclusivity in fashion.
Words From The Runways
Doha based Nadiia Babiak (@nadia_ babiyak) has the kind of life we’d adore, jetting from one Fashion Week to the next – she’s currently running between Ukraine, Paris and Milano – and popping up at events such as the Cannes International Film Festival. As well as sharing her adventures with her 40,000 Instagram followers, she’s also sharing her tips for the upcoming season with us.
“The most famous trend this year is animal print. At the beginning, many of us underestimated it, but that was in vain.”
Some of her top picks come from Celine, Loewe, Jacquemus and Alaia
“Then, there are the colours of the season, Pantone’s Italian Plum, Misted Yellow, Cherry Tomato, Lucent White and Fern. Honestly, I love all of them and can’t wait to wear them during the upcoming fashion weeks. The most beautiful season is coming.”
Speaking about fashion fitness, Nadiia adds: “I also wanted to tell you that style is like a muscle that needs to be developed,
that is why we sit on Pinterest and get inspired by many brands, I have chosen for you five of my favourites brands with which I train my style muscles.”

Live, Love, Local
Ghada Al Subaey, founder and designer of 1309 Studios, told FACT what her emphasis is for AW2024.
What are the most prominent trends you've identified for the coming season?
There is a growing emphasis on self-discovery and the exploration of archetypes, which resonates with women seeking to express different facets of their identities. This aligns with 1309 Studios’ movement towards women’s empowerment and authenticity. Another key trend involves embracing one’s dark femininity, a concept that blends traditional femininity with a more mysterious, powerful edge. This is seen in our latest drop: The 11th Odyssey, where we used deeper and richer colour palettes, bold silhouettes and intricate details that convey strength and allure. Finally, there is a remarkable trend of balancing tradition with modernity.
Which pieces in your collection illustrate these trends or could be adapted to them?
Our latest drop embodies the concept of dark femininity as it features deeper colour tones, structured silhouettes and intricate detailing that reflect the powerful aspects of femininity. Our designs push boundaries while staying true to 1309’s iconic colours and core style, making them both relevant and timeless. Standout pieces like the Aria and Amar prints showcase our innovative approach. The Aria print transports you to an enchanted wonderland, with a forest under an eclipse, mystic
Blending Culture And Tradition
Qatar-based, Latin American designer Lorenaa Michelle is known for marrying her international heritage with the Middle East’s time-honoured garments. She shares her thoughts on what will be hot in the coming months.
What trends do you see coming for AW2024?
I see a revolving impact of upcycling and recycled materials with bold colours and prints emerging for the upcoming winter trends. There will be a rise in retro inspirations throughout, with vintage prints making a comeback. The 1970s and ‘90s will continue to have an influence in the blend of practicality, nostalgia and innovation.
Which pieces from your collections would match with these trends?
Throughout my collections, I always incorporate a cultural fusion, blending traditional motifs and, most importantly, comfort in modern silhouettes.
butterflies and sunflowers, while Amar is a bold monogram print of contrasting crescent moons, creating a visually captivating yet elegant look. Another highlight is the Ying bisht, made from our custom lace, which holds a special place in this collection as it incorporates Arab narration for the first time.
Dare To Wear
It’s no secret that, at FACT, while we do truly love fashion, we also sometimes find it more than a little ridiculous. And everyone knows that, often, what you see on the runways, is very different from what filters down to the mass market in which most of us shop. Here, we feature some of the more bonkers looks from the AW24 runways – mostly because we want to introduce you to the absolute nuttiness that is the brand, Lover Boy. Model painted blue? Check. Zebra print Wellies? Check. What more could you want?
Of course, they’re not the only ones going for looks that are slightly bizarre. Balenciaga, always good for a bit of a laugh, walked models with hats pulled right over the faces. Ferragamo, amongst its many beautiful looks, sent out one poor chap in what appears to be a woollen shorted safari suit, Versace did its usual print overkill, JW Anderson featured men in printed, floor-length frocks (perhaps not so unusual these days) and Coach went cutesy with a giant, yellow duck sweater.
Must admit, we’re quite taken with Lover Boy’s pink dinosaur/crocodile head. Which would you dare to wear?. ✤

AN OASIS ON WHEELS
FACT spent a full day in the all-new SANTA FE MX5, a sizeable and comfy family SUV jam-packed with thoughtful features.
This month we were invited by the team at Hyundai Skyline Automotive to test drive the all-new 2024 SANTA FE MX5. Having already heard good things about this adventurous, large family SUV featuring Hyundai’s innovative design approach and advanced technology, we couldn’t have been happier to accept.
Refined & Robust Exterior
As we began our exterior inspection of the car, our first impression was that Hyundai had successfully blended aesthetics with everyday functionality. We were also impressed at how this ultra-modern-looking machine manages to appear bold and elegant at the same time.
This car has an almost retro-like boxy design with sharp edges and a flat, upright front end that adds to its sturdy demeanour. From front on, this classy-looking SUV exhibits a clear and sculpted appearance accentuated by a horizontal LED light bar with H-shaped front signature lights on either side. A dark chrome front grille and the now iconic H badge in black add further touches of class to an already stylish face.
Shifting our attention to the flanks, we took in the bridge-type roof rack that enables transporting of extra or extra-large goods. A hidden assist handle has been incorporated into the design to provide easier access to the roof. We felt the longer wheelbase of this jumbo SUV is enhanced by the stylish 21-inch alloy wheels. At the back end, Hyundai’s latest release also features H-shaped lights and one of the largest tailgates in the brand’s lineup, specifically designed to make life all the easier for owners.
Stylish & Spacious Interior
Slipping into the front, we noted the convenience of the power-adjustable driver and passenger memory seats and the commanding position from which to view the road ahead. These seats are ventilated, meaning a far better experience during the hot summer months.
We appreciated the unique touch on the steering wheel where four dots, representing the letter ‘H’ in Morse code, replace the traditional Hyundai logo.
Before setting off, we took our time taking in the well-balanced interior of our Calligraphy trim level model that exuded a calming and relaxing ambience, along with an exceptional level of comfort throughout.
The interior harmonised perfectly with the exterior, featuring signature H-Light-shaped elements across the dashboard and air vents.
The thoughtfully designed cabin came outfitted with softtouch plastics, premium Nappa leather and a range of convenient gadgets.
Further, the increased cabin size of this seven-seater family SUV means plenty of seating options, all of which offer sufficient room for heads, shoulders, knees and feet.
The included dual-tint sunroof meant an abundance of natural light in the cabin that added to the uplifting and spacious feel. Throughout the day, we discovered a variety of storage spaces whose locations were meticulously selected to provide extra convenience while on the move.
One of our favourite discoveries was the spacious, terracelike space provided by the wide tailgate. When open, this area would be perfect for enjoying outdoor activities or simply sitting and taking in the views. Fully foldable second and third-row seats allow for maximum utilisation of this space.
Modern Tech & Infotainment
Hyundai has equipped its latest release with a wide range of convenience features. A novel inclusion are the dual wireless phone charging trays in the massive centre console. This is also a bilateral multi-console, so it can be opened on either side, allowing for easy access for both front and second-row occupants. For us, the most innovative tech feature of the MX5 had to be the first-of-its-kind UV-C sterilisation tray. This all-new inclusion quickly and easily sterilises frequently used items such as keys, mobile phones, wallets and other objects.
To provide further convenience and focus, Hyundai has included a Digital Centre Mirror (DCM) that acts as an additional rearview mirror, providing a brighter view at night, along with a Head-Up Display (HUD) that projects essential information onto the windshield, allowing drivers to stay focused.
Another of our must-mention features is the impressive 12-speaker premium Bose sound system with CenterPoint 360 technology that provided an immersive audio experience, no matter where we sat in the vehicle.
As this is the Middle East, it would be remiss of us not to mention the dual full auto air conditioner that kept us cool and comfortable throughout the day.
Lastly, but certainly not least, the dashboard features a panoramic display that merges two 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and the instrument cluster into a single long panel. This design not only enhances the modern feel of the cabin but also contributes to a sense of spaciousness. We found the infotainment system precise and user-friendly.
Powerful & Precise Performance & Protection
Finally, it was time to get out onto the roads.
Our MX5 test-drive model housed a capable, four-cylinder, 2.5
The thoughtfully designed cabin is outfitted with soft-touch plastics, premium Nappa leather and a range of convenient gadgets.” “
T-GDI engine coupled with an 8DCT transmission. This meant a more than adequate 277hp and 246Nm of torque to play with.
For a vehicle of this size, we were satisfied with its acceleration capabilities. Despite seeming slightly slow for quick bursts, once the SANTA FE got going, it proved more than capable of reaching motorway speeds.
As we made our way around the city, we commented positively on the SUV’s balance and suspension, along with the responsive nature of the braking system.
Cruising around in what we can only describe as ultimate comfort and style, the vehicle’s all-wheel-drive system ensured a smooth and safe driving experience throughout the day as it continuously distributed power to the front and rear wheels, according to driving conditions.
Safety and assistance-wise, Hyundai has ensured the MX5 is jam-packed with everything needed to keep you and your loved ones safe and secure.
The SANTA FE features an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electric Stability Control (ESC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), front and rear disc brakes, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Front & Rear Parking Distance Warning, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (rear), Blind Spot Warning, Lane
Follow Assist (LFA), Forward Collision Avoidance, Smart Cruise Control, Remote Parking Assist, an Around View Monitor and 10 airbags, amongst others. No matter where we drove, we always felt relaxed and confident, knowing we were in safe hands. By the time we found ourselves back at base, it was clear that the SANTA FE MX5 was an ideal vehicle for both day-to-day driving and extended road trips. We only wish we had more time to spend in this oasis on wheels.
Our Verdict
The all-new Hyundai SANTA FE MX5 is beautiful to look at inside and out and offers a wide range of conveniencebased features and technology, along with a safe and smooth driving experience. ✤
TIMELESS ELEGANCE
Rolls-Royce has unveiled its highly exclusive Scintilla Private Collection.
The marque recently unveiled the new offering as a grand tribute to the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot. This exclusive collection, limited to just 10 examples worldwide, embodies the ethereal beauty and enduring elegance of the Spirit of Ecstasy, a symbol of luxury and sophistication that has defined the Rolls-Royce brand for over a century.
The Phantom Scintilla derives its name from the Latin word for 'spark' reflecting the fleeting yet profound impression the Spirit of Ecstasy imparts. This Private Collection is more than just a vehicle; it is a masterful piece of art that encapsulates the grace, dynamism and otherworldly allure of the Spirit. Its design and craftsmanship draw heavily from the historical inspiration behind the mascot – the Greek marble statue, The Winged Victory of Samothrace –which captured Rolls-Royce Managing Director Claude Johnson’s imagination over a century ago.
In Phantom Scintilla, Rolls-Royce reclaims some of his original vision by integrating subtle references to The Winged Victory, blending historical inspiration with modern craftsmanship. Phantom Scintilla’s exterior is presented in a striking two-tone bespoke finish. The upper body is painted in Andalusian White, while the lower section is adorned in Thracian Blue, evoking the hues of the sea surrounding Samothrace. The delicate metallic flake in the paint mimics the sparkle of sunlight on water, complemented by a hand-painted coachline and wheel pinstripes in Spirit Blue, enhancing its elegant exterior. Inside, the Phantom Scintilla showcases unparalleled artistry and craftsmanship. The interior design incorporates an intricate embroidery motif that mimics the dynamic flow of the Spirit of
Ecstasy’s robes. This feature involves a staggering 869,500 stitches and took over 40 hours to complete, setting a new benchmark for interior complexity in a Rolls-Royce. The embroidery uses a range of colours and thread types to create a seamless and flowing graphic, which appears like a watercolour painting across the cabin. The centrepiece of the model is the Celestial Pulse artwork in the gallery, spanning the full width of the front fascia. This bespoke creation consists of seven ribbons, each milled from solid aluminium and finished with a finely grained ceramic that echoes the texture of Parian marble. The artwork captures light and movement, enhancing the car’s aura of elegance and sophistication. Additionally, a unique Starlight Headliner animates the interior with 1,500 fibre-optic 'stars' that twinkle in sequence, simulating the Spirit of Ecstasy’s flowing gown and adding a dynamic element to the cabin.
The attention to detail extends to the rear picnic tables, which feature a delicate graphic inspired by the Spirit’s fluidity. This graphic is applied using a masking technique, then hand-sanded and coated to create a subtle play of colours. The wood trim throughout the interior is finished in Arctic White and lacquered with iridescent metallic particles, a process that requires up to 19 coats of lacquer and more than 190 hours of work per car.
In unveiling the Phantom Scintilla, Rolls-Royce not only celebrates the legacy of the Spirit of Ecstasy but also reaffirms its commitment to crafting the most luxurious and bespoke motor cars in the world. ✤
ANNIVERSARY OF AN ICON
Porsche is celebrating a half century of the 911 Turbo with an exclusive limited edition model release.
To mark the milestone, the 911 Turbo 50 Years combines outstanding performance and the finest materials with exclusive design elements.
Both interior and exterior recall historic 911 Turbo models, with the addition of elegant, contemporary styling elements. An optional Heritage Design Package is also available and Porsche has limited the 911 Turbo 50 Years to just 1,974 units honouring the year the first 911 Turbo made its debut.
Based on the 911 Turbo S introduced in 2019, the anniversary model features standard side vinyl graphics in a nod to the historic livery of the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1973. It also includes the current Porsche Turboexclusive colour Turbonite, which is also used on inlays in the rear engine cover, the fuel tank cap and in the Porsche crest and the Turbo 50 model logo. Another historical reference is the use of Anthracite Grey on the rear wing blade, rear apron, mirror base and air intake trims. A badge on the rear engine cover grille features a turbocharger icon and the years 1974–2024. When the door is open, the LED door projector projects the image of a turbocharger onto the ground next to the car.
The interior of the 911 Turbo 50 Years is also redolent of Turbo history. The iconic McKenzie tartan adorns the centre panels of the seat covers and the interior door panels while additional contrasts in Turbonite further differentiate the car from the regular 911 Turbo S series-production model. An illuminated Turbo 50 logo features on the door kick plates and is embroidered into the headrests of the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus. Above the glove compartment is an anniversary plaque in aluminium, which bears both the Turbo 50 logo and the individual limitededition number of the sports car.
The historically inspired, optionally available 50 Years of Turbo
Heritage Design Package complements the anniversary model with numerous additional exclusive design and equipment features that hark back to the 911 Turbo models of the 1970s. Technically, the Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years is based on the 911 Turbo S that has been in production since 2019. Its 3.7-litre boxer engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG) twin turbocharging delivers 478kW and 800Nm of torque. It needs just 2.7 seconds from 0 to 100km/h and hits 200km/h in just 8.9 seconds. The model features an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and the active all-wheel-drive Porsche Traction Management. A sports exhaust system with black tailpipes comes as standard. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension and the lift system on the front axle are also included as standard, as are the LED matrix headlights. The brake callipers feature a black finish. Exclusively for the owners of the 911 Turbo 50 Years, Porsche Design Timepieces is releasing a special timepiece as a homage to the anniversary model. ✤

Congratulations on your new appointment. With more than 20 years in the industry, what was it that first attracted you to hospitality and is that attraction still strong?
I chose to become a hotelier because I’ve always been drawn to the idea of creating memorable experiences for people. From a young age, I was fascinated by the world of travel, culture and luxury. Becoming a hotelier felt like a natural path, where I could turn my passion into a profession, ensuring that every guest leaves with a lasting positive impression.
What was it about Park Hyatt that prompted you to take up this position?
After a brief hiatus from the hotel industry, I was excited to join a brand celebrated for its luxury and exceptional hospitality. Park Hyatt's dedication to detail and personalised service aligns perfectly with my professional and personal values. I feel privileged to be part of the remarkable Msheireb team and Park Hyatt, contributing to their ongoing success.
What are your plans for the hotel in the short and medium terms – are there any refurbs, new restaurants, offers, etc., that guests can look forward to?

EMPHASIS ON LEADERSHIP
Ehab Barghouth, General Manager of Pullman Doha West Bay, on career experiences that have shaped his management style, leading by example and great things to do in Qatar.
In a career spanning almost three decades, you have worked across the Middle East and also in North America. What are the major differences and similarities you've noted between the two regions?
Throughout my career, I've encountered significant differences and similarities between the Middle East and North America. In terms of differences, Middle Eastern business practices emphasise personal relationships and trust, influencing decisionmaking and negotiations, whereas North American hospitality tends to operate more transactionally, adhering closely to established policies and contracts. Customer expectations also differ: in the Middle East, guests often seek personalised service and hospitality rooted in local traditions of warmth and generosity, whereas in North America, efficiency, convenience and tailored experiences are paramount. Despite these contrasts, both regions share a commitment to high standards of service and guest satisfaction. Professionals in hospitality across both regions benefit from robust career opportunities, professional development initiatives and a shared dedication to excellence in guest service and operational management. Navigating these variations and leveraging commonalities has enriched my career, enabling me to adapt strategies, appreciate cultural nuances and consistently deliver outstanding guest experiences across diverse markets in the Middle East and North America.
Your management style has been described as hands-on and transformative. How is this illustrated at Pullman Doha West Bay? Through several key initiatives and practices, I have made significant strides at Pullman Doha West Bay. A main leadership practice which is dear to my heart, is leading by example and being with the team on the floor. I am dedicated to promoting innovation and sustainability by implementing eco-friendly practices, enhancing digital guest experiences and supporting local community initiatives in alignment with Pullman's commitment to sustainability. Additionally, I prioritise and facilitate team collaboration and communication, fostering an environment where open dialogue and teamwork thrive. By promoting cross-departmental collaboration and transparency, we ensure a unified approach to achieving our objectives and consistently delivering exceptional guest experiences.
What are your plans for the future of the hotel – any new facilities, offers or menu options you can share with us?
At Pullman Doha West Bay we always have something new coming up. We have plans for creating an outdoor outlet on our third-floor terrace providing our guests with a new experience, apart from attracting several regional and international entertainers to perform in our huge Al-Thuraya Ballroom. In terms of menus and food and beverage offerings, we make changes and upgrades to our menus to meet our guests’ tastes, as well as presenting new concepts of theme nights and Friday brunch.
In such a long career, you must have had some memorable moments, what would you say is the most unique thing you have experienced?
Throughout my career I have passed several major crises, either
worldwide or in countries I was working in. From September 11 to the Iraq war, world economic crises followed by the Arab Spring and revolution while working in Egypt, the embargo on Qatar followed by Covid-19, through those difficult times, I had a lot of experiences and lessons were learned which helped me develop strengths and knowledge on how to succeed during and after the difficulties. These events gave me a different perspective on managing the business and action planning for success. I can say that in each of those events, for the teams I worked with, we came out stronger and navigated out of the difficulties with success stories, where we have not made losses and, in some cases, we achieved good profits, which may be a shocking fact under such conditions.
What three things would you recommend every visitor to Qatar to see or do?
Visit Souq Waqif, which offers a glimpse into Qatari culture with its bustling atmosphere, authentic shops and numerous cafes and restaurants offering local cuisine. Explore the Museum of Islamic Art, where you’ll find a stunning collection of Islamic art spanning 1,400 years. The museum building itself, designed by architect I.M. Pei, is a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture. And, take a desert safari to experience the thrill of dune bashing, camel riding and sandboarding and enjoying a traditional Arabian dinner under the stars at a desert camp. These activities offer a blend of cultural immersion, historical exploration and adventurous experiences that showcase the diversity and beauty of Qatar. ✤
FROM KITCHEN PORTER TO CULINARY STAR
Chef Cristhian Serraino of ADRIFT Anda Doha, at Le Royal Méridien Place Vendôme Lusail, on collaboration, a love of learning and doing great things with tomatoes.
What is your earliest kitchen memory, and what inspired you to pursue a career in the kitchen?
I’m not one of those who wanted to be a chef since I was a kid. However, when I first stepped into a kitchen at the age of 15, in a typical Italian trattoria as a kitchen porter, I really felt at home. Seeing people create amazing things with food in a high-pressure environment made me fall in love with this job and served as a great inspiration. I completed any task I was asked to do in a very attentive, fast and sharp manner. People around me were impressed by my hunger for learning and started teaching me the menu. The chef offered me the opportunity to work there anytime I was free after school so, despite my peers having fun, I began working and building my career at a very early age.
How much input does Chef David Myers, the founder, have into ADRIFT Anda? Is there a strong collaboration ethos?
David Myers gives me and my team a lot of freedom overall. Whenever I have an idea for a new dish, we discuss it over the
phone; I send photos and videos explaining the details and he helps by giving suggestions based on his extensive experience.
If you could take a food tour of any city in the world, where would you choose and why?
If I had to choose one place for a food tour, it would be Tokyo or another city in Japan. I was impressed by their food and culture while working alongside Angelo Sato, the chef patron at Humble Chicken in London, my last workplace.
What is your signature dish, and why is it popular?
One of my signature dishes is the tomato salad with different textures. I love it because it's the perfect example of how something as simple as a tomato can be transformed into something truly special by playing with its textures. It’s a combination of fresh and semi-dehydrated tomatoes, tomato powder, tomato oil, tomato mayo, and tomato consommé, finished with a juicy burrata on top. It’s popular because people appreciate its simplicity, even though there are several cooking techniques involved. ✤
A UNIQUE CULINARY TOUCH
Tarana Malikova, Executive Head Chef of NOZOMI, shares her journey to Japanese mastery and love for her ‘baby’.
You are known as a certified sushi master. Please tell us how that came about, what inspired your Japanese cuisine journey and how did you progress in this very traditional field?
I was the first woman to graduate from my sushi school! It used to be considered a ‘man’s world’, but my passion for Japanese cuisine was unstoppable. Fortunately, I had a lot of support from everyone around me – maybe they admired my hard work and enthusiasm, or maybe they just enjoyed my food!
My journey into Japanese cuisine started back in 1999 in my hometown, Baku, Azerbaijan. While working in housekeeping at an ambassador’s residence, I was truly impressed by the inhouse Japanese executive chef's talent. Spending more time in the kitchen with him, I fell in love with Japanese cuisine.
After four years of learning, I visited Japan for the first time and enrolled in a sushi school. I earned my certificate and returned to Baku to work for three different ambassadors. I kept visiting Japan to further hone my skills and, in 2011, I proudly opened my first Japanese restaurant in Baku.
You are also a Kaiseki Master. What is this?
Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese multi-course dinner that typically includes six or seven dishes. This cuisine elevates dining to an art form, meticulously balancing flavours, textures and the visual harmony of each dish. The chef celebrates the season’s freshest offerings, crafting dishes that highlight natural tastes and aesthetic appeal.
For a Kaiseki experience, there is usually no set menu. Instead, the chef creates a new menu daily based on the freshest produce and ingredients available. This approach is similar to Omakase, which means ‘I leave it up to you’, allowing the chef to decide what you’ll eat. This philosophy inspires us at NOZOMI. Every autumn, starting in October, we create a new vegan Omakase menu.
Your culinary career has included being a private chef for both ambassadors and royalty. How does this differ from running your own restaurant kitchen?
Being a private chef for three different Japanese ambassadors was an incredible experience, allowing me to blend traditional Japanese cuisine with other culinary styles. Serving as a private chef for royalty was also a big responsibility, but one I cherished deeply. My time in the palace was wonderful, surrounded by amazing people and working with a variety of high-quality ingredients. Creating new dishes daily to surprise the family members was a joy. However, this is very different from being the head chef of a restaurant. In a restaurant kitchen, the environment is much more dynamic and caters to a wide range of tastes, serving hundreds of guests weekly. The menu needs to be authentic yet adaptable to meet customer needs. We are always exploring new ideas and seasonal ingredients to ensure our offerings are fresh and exciting. There's a unique adrenaline rush in working with a talented team, all motivated to make
our restaurant the best. It’s a competitive market, and we’re excited to continually innovate and strive to be the favourite dining destination for our cuisine.
You have been with NOZOMI in Doha for eight years now. What is the achievement you’re most proud of during that time?
First and foremost, NOZOMI is my baby! I love everything about it. It’s one of the best things that has happened to me in my life. I get to meet amazing people and we have built an incredible team that we proudly call the NOZOMI Family.
Over the years, we have won numerous awards, including The Best Japanese Restaurant. It’s incredibly rewarding to be acknowledged for our hard work and passion; it means so much to all of us. One of my personal highlights was when we had the honour of hosting His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
What is your signature dish?
Each dish at NOZOMI has its own unique touch. Our entire menu embraces a fusion concept, and some of my signature dishes exemplify this approach. For instance, the Marinated Ebi (shrimp) with apple salsa and ponzu is a delightful combination of flavours, while the Wagyu beef salad, featuring Wagyu beef karaage served with hot sauce in a rice leaf bowl, showcases our commitment to both taste and presentation. We believe that you eat with your eyes first, so every dish is designed to be a visual feast as well. ✤
A SYMPHONY OF SPICES
AMS discovered a true
As we entered Masala Library at the Fairmont Doha, we were warmly greeted by the manager, whose gracious welcome set the tone for the evening ahead. Immediately, we were struck by the opulence of the surroundings – an ambience that blended luxury with a refined sense of style. The restaurant’s interior is a masterclass in design, with every detail meticulously curated to create an environment that felt both grand and inviting.
Elegant Surroundings
The walls are adorned with exquisite artwork, each piece adding a splash of vibrant colour that contrasted beautifully with the sleek, modern furnishings. Rich copper panels provided a dramatic backdrop, while the ivory-hued seating areas offered a touch of softness, making the space feel as comfortable as it is sophisticated. Above us, crystal chandeliers glittered like stars, their light reflecting off the polished surfaces and casting a warm, golden glow throughout the room.
As we were led to our table by the window, we couldn’t help but admire the stunning views over the city’s skyline, which added yet another layer of splendour. The entire atmosphere oozed opulence, enveloping us in a cocoon of luxury.
Artistic Starters
Our dining experience began with a refreshing welcome drink of apple, grenadine and sparkling water, a perfect prelude to the feast that awaited us. As we sipped, the crisp bubbles and sweet notes
danced on our palates, setting the stage for what was to come. The meal commenced with an assortment of delicate poppadoms, their satisfying crunch paving the way for the starters. The Peri Peri Mango Puchkas arrived like miniature treasures, encased in striking black and gold puris. Each bite burst with the bright, tangy sweetness of mango pearls, a playful contrast to the fiery undertones of peri peri, creating flavours that tantalised the senses. Next, the Vannamei garlic prawns graced our table, their oceanic essence beautifully captured in the dish. The prawns, plump and succulent, were bathed in a tangy garlic marinade. The accompanying sea asparagus added a crisp texture, while the samudri jhag – a frothy, ocean-inspired foam – brought the dish to life with its light, ethereal presence.
Following this, the Murgh Tikka arrived, gleaming under the light with its delicate silver leaves. Each tender piece of chicken had been marinated in a rich malai marinade, infused with the heady warmth of cardamom. The tikka was a revelation – each bite offered a smoky depth, balanced by the creamy richness of the marinade, while the silver leaves added an unexpected touch of luxury.
As our evening progressed, we had the opportunity to meet Chef Angad and Marketing Manager Ayse, who shared the rich history of Masala Library. Until 2019, the restaurant was helmed by the renowned Indian chef Jiggs Kalra, known for popularising modern Indian cuisine. Though he passed away in 2019, his innovative spirit and dedication to excellence continue to shape the eatery’s offerings, ensuring that his legacy lives on in every meticulously crafted dish.
The Star Of The Show
As the mains arrived, we were immediately struck by the stunning visual presentation, each dish a work of art. The hand-pulled butter chicken stole the spotlight, its tender pieces of meat swimming in a rich tomato makhani gravy. The sauce, velvety and deeply spiced, was the embodiment of comfort – like a warm embrace on a cool evening. It was a masterclass in balance, with the spices perfectly marrying heat and sweetness, each spoonful leaving a lingering warmth that invited another. Equally impressive was the modernist malai paneer, where soft, creamy cubes of paneer rested atop a mixed vegetable korma. The paneer film that draped over the dish was delicate and almost translucent, adding a modern twist to this classic. The korma itself was a medley of textures and flavours, with the spices harmonising into a gentle melody that lingered on the palate.
Aromatic Biryani
The Awadhi dum parda subz biryani was the final act in this trio of main courses – a fragrant dish that arrived under a thin, doughy veil, sealing in the aromas until the very last moment. As the lid was lifted, the heady scent of basmati rice and spices wafted into the air, a perfume as intoxicating as it was appetising. Each grain of rice was infused with the essence of cardamom and saffron, with the vegetables providing bursts of colour and flavour. The meal was accompanied by garlic naan and kulcha bread, their pillowy softness the perfect vessels for mopping up the luxurious gravies. The four cheese and basil kulcha was a standout, its rich, melty interior adding a delightful indulgence to the meal.
Sweet Finale
As we reached the end of our culinary journey, the dessert – a simple yet decadent gulab – arrived. The syrup-soaked gulab was a sweet, fragrant finale, each bite reminiscent of rose gardens in full bloom.
Throughout the evening, the service was prompt and attentive, with each dish arriving at the perfect moment, allowing us to fully savour the intricate layers of spices and flavours that Masala Library is so renowned for. The experience was a true celebration of Indian cuisine, where tradition and innovation coexisted in perfect harmony. This restaurant is ideal for those seeking a memorable experience, whether celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in an evening surrounded by exquisite surroundings and exceptional culinary artistry. ✤

LATIN VIBES AND CARNIVOROUS CRAVINGS
SD discovered a meat eater’s paradise coupled with the popping flavours of Latin America, including Argentina, on a visit to Fuego.
We’re no strangers to Fuego – it’s been around for a while and has never disappointed in the past. But it’s been a long time since we’ve eaten here, and as soon as we enter, the comforting familiarity envelopes us and, in some way, whets our appetites.
Located in JW Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, Fuego has a large dining area with smoking and non-smoking sections. Ambient light and luxurious carpet create a nice intimate atmosphere and we choose a table with city view.
The steakhouse-style masculine interiors, an elevated deck featuring horse heads for handles atop cast-iron grills and even horn-shaped salt and pepper shakers, show impressive attention to detail. With wooden panelling and large leather couches, we know the meats reign supreme here. The menu is built around a selection of Latin American favourites from ceviches and tiraditos to tacos and tres leches, but it also features some top grills including Australian Wagyu and USDA Prime Angus Beef.
We start off with a mocktail called Amazonia – a very interesting mix of flavours. The drink blends strawberry puree with coconut milk and mint leaves. It's as tropical and refreshing as it sounds, garnished with a slice of dried pineapple. While we are waiting, the staff immediately serve us some walnut bread and chimmichuri butter. If we're going by this alone, we're confident the dinner is going to be fantastic.
The head chef walks over to greet us with a lovely smile and sunny disposition. Chef Richard is Peruvian – so we’re excited to try his food. And the most obvious choice of starter has to be the ceviche – it must be flawless. There is plenty of variety, so naturally we chase the server’s recommendations and shortly after, a bowl of ceviche arrives. The Seabass Ceviche sits on a bed of wonderfully citric leche de tigre alongside sweet potato and choclo (a type of Peruvian corn). It is the perfect combination of sour and spicy. Every mouthful feels like a celebration of Peru’s vibrant culture and cuisine.
The portion of Taco de Camaron that arrives soon after is as aesthetic as it is tasty. The construction of each taco is supreme – with tempura shrimp and Guajillo mayo topped with edible shreds that are surprisingly sturdy, and do not fall off when we grab them. The red cabbage adds a wonderful crunch. The Espinacas Empanadas are waiting to be picked up, piping hot and crunchy, filled with spinach and decadent melted provolone cheese. What an absolute treat.
And just when we think the appetisers cannot get better, a plate of beef skewers is brought to the table. Anticucho de Carne de Res Prime is not a name you’ll probably remember, but the texture and taste of these prime rib skewers is unforgettable. They're greasy and tender, loaded with flavour from the anticuchera sauce, and come with a side of roasted potato. Every cube of beef is marinated and cooked perfectly.
The menu is so diverse and we find our favourite Arepas, but
we're headed towards the star of the show (the meat), so we will save the Arepas for next time.
For mains, the chef recommends his Picanha. He convinces us with just three special words – Argentinian Black Angus. This rump steak is sliced into thick chunks and served with plenty of salt – exactly how we like it. With medium and medium rare pieces, this dish is a crowd pleaser. Luckily, the chimichurri sauce comes with everything and really raises the steak. However, the meat itself is so flavourful that you'd be forgiven for completely skipping the sauces on the side. Sweet potato fries are served as an accompaniment and, once again, these are 10/10. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with grated cheese and most likely, some love from the chef.
Dessert is Tres Leches – we’re keeping it simple and delicious with this traditional light sponge cake that’s been soaked in three different types of milk. Sweet and tasty, this Tres Leches is a cut above, with its rich, creamy texture.
As our evening draws to a close, we come to the conclusion that Dining at Fuego is an experience – they really do Latin American right. From great cultural representation and vibrant, friendly service to the impeccable palate-pinging flavours, there are plenty of reasons to come back – and sooner this time. ✤
A CULINARY AND CULTURAL TREAT
AMS discovered a taste of Italy with a musical twist on a visit to The Italian Job.
The Italian job at the Radisson Blu Hotel Doha greeted us with a warm and rustic charm, immediately evoking the spirit of the classic 1969 film, on which it is based. The décor, with its exposed brickwork, red beams and cosy, candlelit tables, reflected the vintage, nostalgic feel of the movie.
The white wooden chairs, accented with vibrant red and green napkins, added a lively touch, reminiscent of an Italian trattoria. As we stepped further inside, we were welcomed by Vanessa, our friendly host, who effortlessly guided us to our table, setting the tone for an evening of relaxed and attentive service.
The restaurant has become a longstanding favourite for many in the city. With over two decades of heritage, it is a place where families gather to celebrate special occasions: like our eldest daughter’s prize-giving several years ago. The warm, friendly service stands out, with staff who are not only extremely helpful but also approachable, making every guest feel at home.
Delightful Starters
From the moment we were greeted with a welcome drink, the experience was nothing short of delightful. The meal began with a selection of freshly baked bread and a variety of rich, fragrant oils, which set the tone for a truly authentic Italian dining experience. The starter, a Mesclun salad, was a vibrant and refreshing medley. The combination of sweet strawberries, juicy clementine and tart berries with creamy goat cheese and thyme offered a perfect balance of flavours. The salad was lightly dressed in balsamic
vinegar, which added a subtle tanginess that elevated the dish, making it a refreshing prelude to the heartier courses.
Mouth-watering Mains
The mains were a true showcase of Italian comfort food prepared by Chefs Mohammed and Carlo, each dish crafted with care and bursting with flavour. The miso frito calamari and shrimp delivered a delightful crunch, with the seafood perfectly fried to a golden crisp. It was tender, with the miso adding a unique depth of flavour that complemented the natural sweetness of the shrimp and calamari. The Diavola pizza was a standout, with its perfectly baked crust, generous layers of pomodoro and mozzarella, and a savoury mix of salame and black olives. The hint of pepperoncino added just the right amount of heat, making each bite a tantalising experience. Nonna’s meatballs, a cherished family recipe, were the epitome of Italian comfort. The meatballs were tender and juicy, simmered slowly in a rich, flavourful tomato sauce and generously topped with parmesan cheese. Each bite transported us to a traditional Italian kitchen, full of warmth and nostalgia.
A Unique Dining Experience
What truly set The Italian Job apart was its exceptional blend of dining and entertainment, creating a uniquely enchanting experience that appealed to both the young and the young at heart. As we enjoyed our meal, the atmosphere came alive with the captivating performances of singing waiters, Rico, Venus and
Francisco, who delivered three musical sets that were nothing short of magical. This seamless fusion of gourmet Italian cuisine and live entertainment transformed an already delightful meal into an unforgettable experience. Nowhere else in Doha could you find this rare combination, making The Italian Job a must-visit for those seeking both a culinary and cultural treat.
Sweet Endings
To finish our meal on the perfect note, we indulged in a classic tiramisu that was nothing short of divine. The dessert featured delicate ladyfingers soaked in rich, aromatic espresso, layered with velvety mascarpone cream that melted in the mouth and finished with a generous dusting of cocoa powder. Each spoonful was a harmonious blend of flavours and textures, offering just the right balance of sweetness and bitterness. As we savoured the final bites, the lingering taste left us with a warm, satisfied feeling – a fitting conclusion to a meal that had been a journey through the very best of Italian cuisine.
Exceptional Service
The Italian Job is more than just a restaurant; it is a gathering place for anyone who cherishes good food, warm company and a unique dining experience. Whether you are there to celebrate a milestone with family, enjoy a midweek meal with friends or simply indulge in a quiet dinner alone, this is the kind of place that makes you feel special. The kind of place where, after a few visits, the staff are likely to remember your name and greet you with a smile, knowing just where you like to sit and perhaps even having your favourite dish ready to order. It is a restaurant where the atmosphere is as rich and comforting as the food, where every visit feels like coming home, and where the joy of good company and great memories are always on the menu. ✤

LUXURY AND LEISURE
AMS enjoyed a relaxing, indulgent staycation in the heart of Doha.
On entering the lobby of Le Méridien City Center, Doha, we were greeted by a sophisticated blend of modern luxury and inviting warmth. The deep blue armchairs, with their plush velvet-like texture and sleek gold legs, created a stylish yet comfortable seating area, perfectly complemented by geometric glass-top tables. The surrounding walls featured vibrant artwork that injected a lively splash of colour, reflecting the dynamic spirit of Doha. The reception area was equally impressive, dominated by an elegant marble counter, with intricate grey and gold veining, and a golden wave-like light fixture that cast a soft, warm glow over the space. Rich wood panelling and textured walls added depth, seamlessly blending natural elements with contemporary design. Diana at the reception welcomed us with genuine warmth, ensuring a smooth check-in before personally escorting us to our suite.
We had the pleasure of staying in the Junior Suite, which offered a serene retreat with its spacious layout and floorto-ceiling windows that provided breathtaking views of Doha’s skyline and the Arabian Gulf. The accommodation was tastefully decorated with modern furnishings, including a comfortable king-sized bed, a cosy seating area with a designer armchair and elegant wall art that added a touch of sophistication to the space.
Le Méridien City Center Doha boasts 353 elegant rooms, suites and residences, all offering stunning city and sea views. The hotel seamlessly blends business with lifestyle, featuring subtle cultural nuances in its design, such as wall art, designer carpets and artistic displays throughout. Guests in suites and clubrooms also enjoy exclusive access to a club lounge with an outdoor terrace.
An Indulgent Start
We began our stay with a sumptuous breakfast at La Gourmandise. The buffet spread was extensive, offering everything from eggs and waffles to fresh fruit, Arabic fare, cold cuts, cereals and an array of pastries. Among the offerings, the French toast stood out, its delicate balance of crisp edges and fluffy interior leaving a lasting impression. The pastries, more abundant than in typical hotel buffets, provided a delightful surprise with their variety and freshness. We opted for Eggs Benedict, French toast and pancakes, each dish prepared with care and precision. Our waitress, Ketut, was attentive and ensured our dietary preferences were well accommodated. It was particularly reassuring to see that allergies were taken seriously, with clear labelling and thoughtful preparation evident throughout.
A Journey Into Relaxation
Our afternoon was spent in the serene surroundings of the spa, where we indulged in two treatments. The experience began with a warm welcome from Eny, our therapist from Indonesia, who guided us through a consultation form before offering a refreshing towel and a cup of jasmine tea with honey.
The mini facial was a highlight, using Phytomer products
from Paris. The process was thorough yet relaxing, beginning with a refreshing spray and followed by a cleanse and tone with a soothing massage. A gentle scrub was then applied, leaving the skin feeling rejuvenated. Eny followed this with a serum and, while the mask was setting, she treated us to a calming head massage. The facial concluded with the application of eye cream and day cream, leaving our skin radiant and hydrated. The hot stone massage, lasting a luxurious 90 minutes, was equally divine. The treatment started with a foot wash, setting the tone for what was to come. The stones, perfectly heated, melted away tension, leaving us in a state of complete relaxation. Eny's expertise was evident throughout, ensuring that every knot and tight muscle was addressed with care and precision.
Poolside Bliss
Following the spa, we spent the remainder of the afternoon by the pool. The setting was ideal, with plenty of sunbeds and a good aspect for sun exposure, yet the surrounding buildings provided a welcome shield during the hottest part of the day. Theodore, the pool attendant, was exceptional, constantly on hand to cater to our needs. Our water glasses were never empty, and his attentiveness added a layer of comfort to our experience.
Culinary Delights At Café Rouge Terrace
Dining at Café Rouge Terrace was a standout experience during our visit. The evening began with a rich, velvety mushroom soup that set the tone for the meal. The depth of flavour in the soup was remarkable, with earthy mushrooms perfectly balanced by a creamy base. This was followed by a crisp, fresh salad that provided a refreshing contrast to the warmth of the soup.
For the main course, we opted for the chicken pizza, which arrived with a beautifully charred crust, topped with succulent pieces of chicken, fresh vegetables and just the right amount of melted cheese. The pizza was cooked to perfection, with each bite offering a satisfying blend of textures and flavours.
Dessert was a true indulgence. We shared a crème brûlée, which was flawlessly executed with a perfectly caramelised sugar top that cracked to reveal a smooth, vanilla-infused custard underneath. The strawberry cheesecake ice cream was a delightful end to the meal, combining the rich, tangy flavour of cheesecake with the freshness of strawberries, all in a creamy, cold dessert that was both decadent and refreshing.
Morning Exercise And Afternoon Indulgence
Our second day started with a much-needed visit to the gym on the 43rd floor, which boasts state-of-the-art facilities and a stunning view of the city. The indoor pool was an added bonus, providing a serene environment for a morning swim. The gym offered detox water and ice-cold towels, thoughtful touches that enhanced our workout experience. Later, we enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea, which
proved to be a culinary highlight of our stay. The selection of mocktails was refreshing, perfectly complementing the array of savoury bites that followed. The cucumber cream cheese sandwich, mozzarella pesto basil tomato sandwich, crab sandwich, smoked salmon wrap and pastrami sandwich were all beautifully presented and full of flavour. The sweet offerings were equally impressive, with tiramisu, red velvet cake, carrot cake, Madeleine with cream, mango mousse and cheesecake providing a symphony of tastes. The scones, served with jam and clotted cream, were a nod to tradition, rounding off the experience with a touch of classic indulgence. The tea and coffee selection catered to all preferences, ensuring a perfect end to our stay.
A Retreat Worth Revisiting
Le Méridien City Center, Doha offered a perfect blend of comfort, luxury and attentive service. From the moment we arrived until our departure, every detail was thoughtfully considered, making our single night feel longer. Whether you're seeking a relaxing escape or a convenient city retreat, this hotel provides an exceptional setting. ✤

DREAMIN’ OF THE JOURNEY
With their latest single, Like No Tomorrow, climbing up the charts, FACT caught up with Hadi Assoum of Qatar’s own Caravan Dream to talk all things band, musical influences and appreciating life’s great journey.
Who are the band members, who does what in the band, and how long have you been performing together?
We’re a four-piece band and, for us, it’s more than just a band—we’re best mates and family to each other. Radi El Zouhby is the lead singer and plays rhythm guitar, I’m the lead guitarist and the primary songwriter, Rami El Zouhby plays bass and Alex Banashko is our drummer. We’ve been playing together since 2019.
Where are you all from, and how did you get started?
Alex is from Ukraine, while the rest of us are from Lebanon. However, we've been living in Qatar for years, and that’s where we met. We’ve all played in various acts and cover bands and even shared stages at different festivals and venues as guest artists in each other’s bands. In 2019, the stars finally aligned, and we formed a cover band called Bottomz Up. Our big break came when we got the opportunity to open for Marshmello in Doha, which created a significant buzz for us. We gigged around Doha regularly until COVID-19 hit, which froze everything. During the pandemic, our musical efforts shifted to online jams and collaborations.
You all previously played in cover bands. Was it hard to transition to writing your own music? Who writes the songs or is it a group effort?
During the pandemic lockdown in 2020, while witnessing the chaos and uncertainty around us, I turned to music as a way to heal and process my emotions. One day, during peak lockdown, I sat down at the piano and wrote a few lines about how it’s okay not to be okay and that we would get through it all. I recorded a quick demo and sent it to the band’s group chat. We decided to produce the song remotely, each from our own homes, and that’s when we began focusing on original music. Our first track, Heroes Dreams, was selfproduced and mixed by Dave Skelton in Ireland. That was the birth of Caravan Dream as an original music band. I usually do most of the writing and produce demos, which I share with the band. We then jam and develop the songs together at our studio, with everyone contributing. Radi wrote Fantasy on our debut album, and Alex often adds the perfect melodies when we’re stuck. After Heroes Dreams, we released Into Your Maze, followed by our album Fantasy a year later; both were mixed by Greg Johnson in California, LA, and mastered by Mazen Murad at the world-class Katara Studios.
As a band, what or who are your musical influences?
Individually, we’re a musical salad with a real mix of musical influences, ranging from classic rock, metal and psychedelic rock like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Doors, AC/DC, Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Metallica, to pop icons like Michael Jackson, and even genres like reggae, blues, jazz, rap and electronic music. Collectively, though, we’ve distilled all of that into what Caravan Dream sounds like today, a blend of indie rock, pop rock, dance rock and
alternative rock. As a band, I’d say our biggest influences are The Killers, Coldplay and Kings of Leon.
You’ve got a new single out, Like No Tomorrow. Please tell us a bit about the song—what’s it about and what inspired it? As the title suggests, Like No Tomorrow is a call to break free from the barriers that hold us back, to chase our dreams without fear, and live life as if tomorrow will never come. It’s about taking risks that are worth it and finding heaven in doing things your way. The song started as a fictional story about a girl calling her loved one on a runaway journey. Later, I stumbled across a real-life story about an enslaved couple in Atlanta during the darkest of times. They escaped from a prison-like farm where love was forbidden and made it to freedom. That story inspired me to finish writing Like No Tomorrow.
As I’m preparing these questions, it’s steadily climbing on the QBS Radio Top 40 – currently at number 17. How does that feel?
It’s incredible! We've been on the QBS Radio Top 40 chart for several weeks now, and I want to give a huge thanks to the QBS team, especially Haytham Al Jawhari and DJ Chloe, for supporting us from the beginning. Being at number 17 and climbing is surreal, especially alongside such big names. This kind of love from our fans and listeners means the world to us. As of this week, Like No Tomorrow has been streamed in 108 countries on Spotify alone, which is mind-blowing for us!
Now that you’re bona fide rock stars, are you getting recognised when you're out and about in Qatar?
Doha is relatively small, and we’re quite active, performing 30 to 35 gigs a year. The love from our local fan base is amazing. We’ve started to recognise familiar faces at our shows, and we often receive messages from fans telling us they’ve heard us on the radio or used our songs in their social media posts. After our gigs, people sometimes queue for photos, and there have even been a few funny moments when someone starts singing one of our songs when they see us in public. We don’t consider ourselves rock stars yet, but we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful for the love and support we’ve received from our fans in Qatar.
Where can our readers see you performing next?
We’ve just come back from a little summer break and will be back in action in the next couple of weeks. This season, we’ll be playing more regularly at The Backyard, one of our favourite venues in town, where the crowd is always amazing. We’ve also got some big international events lined up, as well as regular gigs around Doha. We’re also working on a couple of tours in the Middle East and Europe, which our management is preparing. All our upcoming events and concerts will be announced on our official social media. We invite everyone to follow us on social media, listen to our music on all streaming platforms and subscribe to our YouTube channel to see our music videos.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Firstly, I want to thank you for this opportunity to be
featured in FACT magazine, which does such an amazing job staying active and up to date!
I just want to say that, despite all the troubles, wars and broken dreams in the world, I believe there’s still so much love and beauty out there. We need to care for one another, put aside our differences and focus on what unites us. Caravan Dream promises to keep making music to spread as much love as possible, it’s our passion and all we have on this journey of life as a band. After all, it’s about the journey, not the destination! Just like a caravan goes. Much love from Radi, Rami, Alex and Hadi to everyone. Caravan Dream fam. ✤
ROCK ON, QATAR
As The Doha Players prepare to bring the Queen musical We Will Rock You to the stage, we caught up with Director Kristina Cheffins to find out what’s in store.
Hi Kristina, you will be directing the upcoming production of We Will Rock You. For the uninitiated, please explain what a director does.
Ha ha, how much time do you have? Directing is a huge job as you have your fingers in many pies. The director of a production is the leader who has the vision of what the audience will see on stage. He/she orchestrates all the different parts to create a seamless and compelling theatrical experience. It is a tough job because you have to develop a vision for the show, interpret the script, score and lyrics to create a cohesive and engaging production. This involves making decisions about the overall tone, style and concept of the show.
As well as casting and leading rehearsals, the director collaborates with other key creatives, such as the choreographer, musical director, set designer, costume designer and lighting designer, to ensure all elements of the production work together harmoniously.
How did you get involved with this side of the production?
Well, I have been performing in shows for over 30 years and, as a music and drama teacher, I have directed many shows at school. Thanks to my mentor Angela Walton, who has directed countless shows for the Doha Players (DP) and having worked with her so closely for so long, I decided to take the plunge and offer my services to DP. I co-directed the Doha Singers for a short while but I haven’t directed an adult show before, so this is my debut. I was really quite nervous at first but I have an absolutely amazing creative
team and the most fabulous cast so they have made my job easy to be honest.
What is We Will Rock You about and what can the audience expect?
Well, that’s an interesting question because the story of the show is a little different, so expect the unexpected! If you like the music of the band Queen, you will love the show. It’s loud, fast paced, exciting, full of energetic choreography, has a lot of songs you’ll recognise sung by a live band and a story that is set in a dystopian future where individuality and live music are banned.
The story follows a young rebel named Galileo and his friend Scaramouche as they fight against the oppressive global corporation, Globalsoft, which controls society through mind-numbing, computer-generated pop music. They join the Bohemians, a group of underground rebels who seek to restore rock and roll. Guided by the mysterious ‘Dreamer’, they search for the fabled ‘Stolen Songs’ to reignite the spirit of freedom and music.
Through their journey, they discover their own identities and the power of rock music to inspire change.
How many actors/musicians will be taking part?
In total we have 37 cast members, including Jennifer the choreographer and myself as we will be making some appearances in the ensemble. We can never resist performing! The cast are super diverse as we have a wide range of nationalities and ages and they are from all walks
of life. I have to say the cast are amazing, such a lovely supportive group of people and I feel very privileged to be their director.
The band is quite small as we have just five members at the moment which we hope to expand, but boy can they play!
Led by our very talented Musical Director John Drury, who you will see on drums, the band also consists of two keys players, the first also being our Choral Director Julie Chapman, both are also my colleagues at school, two are ex-students from my school, Abigail on keys and Jamie on bass, and then finally a wonderful music teacher from my husband’s school Wael, who is an awesome guitarist.
How easy was it to find enough musicians – anyone our readers would recognise?
It’s never easy to find musicians here in Doha especially for community theatre as you play on a volunteer basis, rather than as a paid job, and it’s a huge commitment, especially when there are 15 shows. However, there are always some who will play simply for the love of music and theatre. As you will notice from my previous answer, the band is mostly people I work with or ex-students. But also, having been in Doha for 16 years, you build up a network of contacts for such things which is always very useful. As for people you may recognise, well Doha is a small community, so there're bound to be people readers may know who are in the show, but there are also a couple on stage who perform in bands around Doha.
Probably too late for this production but can we tell people how to get involved for the next one?
It’s never too late! Well maybe for being on stage, but we always need backstage crew, help with costumes and sewing or painting and building set and props. We are also
still looking for a second guitarist and percussionist, so if there’s anyone out there interested, please get in touch via admin@thedohaplayers.com
How much are tickets and where can they be purchased?
Tickets range from QR40 to QR250 and can be purchased on Q tickets https://events.q-tickets.com/ qatar/eventdetails/5954404072/we-will-rock-you-thequeen-musical
Anything else to add?
Just please come and see the show. We have been working hard for the last six months, rehearsing three times a week and would love a full audience to share it with. All the cast, crew, band work full time and do this as a hobby but I think you will be amazed at the quality of the performances. The show is suitable for all ages and will be a great afternoon or evening out. Or come and join us as a member of The Doha Players. It really is a lot of fun and you meet so many new people. Let’s Rock! ✤

RAP
I Lay Down My Life For You
By JPEGMAFIA
JPEGMAFIA (aka Peggy) adopts the role of an agitator with relentless energy on his fifth solo studio album, I Lay Down My Life For You.
The 34-year-old Baltimore rapper opens with the aptly titled i scream this in the mirror before i interact with anyone. A barrage of distorted metal riffs sitting defiantly above huge kick drums and a focussed ride cymbal rhythm.
On personal favourite, Sin Miedo, the beats and synths pulse with frenetic vitality bouncing all over the place. A palpable mix of noise, rap and punk rock guitars (the unexpected guitar solo kicks everything over the top).
Things relax on I’ll Be Right There For You as Peggy harmonises smoothly with the twinkling production and striking sample of Don't Walk Away by Jade.
When you least expect it, JPEGMAFIA goes on to further showcase his skill and unpredictability with the high-tempo Brazilian funk beat on it’s dark and hell is hot with Brazilian funk producer DJ RaMeMes.
With features by Vince Staples, Denzel Curry and Buzzy Lee, the album is a punchy and varied listening experience reflecting JPEGMAFIA’s dynamic artistry and continually evolving sound.
ROCK
No Name
By Jack White
Jack White returns uncontrollably exuberant and at his boisterous best on his sixth studio album – No Name. And simply put, this is one of the best albums out this year!
Jack, a founding member of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather (among many other exploits), has a highly accomplished career spanning more than 20 years. And him still having something to say with this much vicious ferocity in the latter half of his career, is far from the usual. No Name sounds like an exemplary culmination of his best work from beloved previous projects but with a heavy (and much appreciated) emphasis on that undeniably colossal White Stripes sound of the early 2000s.
He kicks the door down with heavy distortion-tinged blues on opener – Old Scratch Blues. Then splintered fuzz-soaked riffs rain down like an unrelenting hail on Bless Yourself
Things abruptly switch gears to the sleek sounding That's How I'm Feeling with an absolutely joyous punk-rock chorus. On following songs, Rough on Rats, Archbishop Harold Holmes and the anthemic glam rock banger Tonight (Was a Long Time Ago), things subsequently just keep getting better. Do yourself a favour and give this record a spin.
CRIME, MYSTERY, THRILLER
We Solve Murders

What We’re (Still) Talking About
Sweet Scent of Dough Sick Of Work
Many years ago, UK television had an advert for a well-known gravy brand that featured cartoon kids following the aroma into the kitchen, beatific smiles on their faces and their noses turned heavenwards to take in the scent. Now, we know the sense of smell has a lot to do with taste and enjoyment of food, so the advert ticked all the right boxes. However, we’d be kind of surprised if anyone thought it a good idea to make a gravy-scented perfume.
But that’s exactly what’s on offer from the makers of Knead – the new scent from
the team behind Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. Apparently, ‘it’s a fragrance that captures the iconic aroma of freshly-baked pretzels. Infused with notes of buttery dough, salt and a hint of sweetness, each spritz evokes the nostalgic experience of passing an Auntie Anne's store’.
On the one hand, we can see the attraction ish, but on the other, we can’t help wondering what’s next – eau de French fries from the Golden Arches? Not to mention that there are those of us who only have to sniff a pretzel for our jeans to tighten!
Let’s be honest, we’ve all done it at some point in our working lives (not at FACT, we hasten to add), woken up and just thought ‘Nope, not today’. A swift fibbing phone call and we’re back in the comfortable cocoon of our beds for an extra couple of hours of shuteye.
In fact, a former colleague once told us that she suffered from sick building syndrome – sick of coming to this bloomin’ building.
Now a very sympathetic businessman has made it official. The South China Morning Post reported that Yu Donglai,
founder and chairman of Pang Dong Lai, a retail chain in China’s Henan province, has introduced what he calls ‘unhappy leave’.
In a move aimed at improving work-life balance, the boss has decreed that, if workers aren’t happy, they can apply for up to 10 days per year of unhappy leave and the administration can’t refuse.
It’s a great incentive for the company to keep its workers happy but we bet there will be certain days of the year when everybody is mysteriously miserable!
Lovin’ Foo
We know we said we’d try not to comment on the upcoming US presidential election. But honestly, there’s so much good fodder, it would be almost criminal not to mention some of it. And, being big fans of the Foo Fighters, we were particularly tickled by a tale coming out of Arizona where, at a Republican rally, former presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr dropped out of the race and endorsed Donald Trump. As RFK Jr was welcomed to the stage, the Foos’ song My Hero blared out over the gathered crowd, prompting Foos’
fans to enquire if the band was endorsing the former president and had given permission for the song’s use.
The answer from the band was a resounding ‘No!’ And Dave Grohl and Co have gone so far as to say any royalties earned from the performance will be donated to the Harris-Walz campaign.
Bit of an own goal for the former president – can’t think why he didn’t go for Kid Rock’s Redneck Paradise or Ted Nugent’s Stormtroopin’ then he’d have had no problems.
