FEADSHIP’S PROJECT 818

The 77.25-metre Project 818 has emerged from one of the giant construction halls at the Feadship yard on Kaag for further outfitting, placement of the mast and testing of the propulsion system.

A significant proportion of the superyacht is being kept quite literally under wraps for now with more details to be revealed in the near future. Nonetheless, there was plenty to see for the global audience of Feadship fans who tuned in to the first ever livestream broadcast of such an event, which included some dramatic drone footage.

Project 818 is custom-built for an owner with a true eye for design, and the fruits of his partnership with designer Jarkko Jämsén are already evident in the elegant and wellproportioned exterior profile. KK Superyachts have been representing the owner from the concept development phase through to completion and yacht operations. Feadship will be sharing detailed information on this superb new member of the fleet closer to the official launch date, including an impressive interior from the boards of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. DAMEN LAUNCHES

Dutch luxury yacht builders AMELS and DAMEN celebrated the hull launch of LA DATCHA SeaXplorer following construction on the Danube river.

The owner of the innovative 77-metre luxury expedition yacht (252 ft) attended the event with his family at the hull building yard Damen Shipyards Galati. This summer the hull will be transported to the SeaXplorer outfitting yard in the Netherlands ahead of delivery in September 2020, just before the yacht’s debut at the Monaco Yacht Show.

LA DATCHA is based on the leading SeaXplorer expedition yacht design with extensive customisations to the owner’s requirements, including his passion for heliskiing. She stands out with a helideck and hangar for two aircraft, fully certified for helicopters up to 4,000kg.

The yacht carries extra provisions and facilities for 40 days of global autonomy without port call, and a superb set of toys, tenders, snowmobiles and a submarine. The owner intends to make LA DATCHA available for charter in a range of polar and tropical destinations during an extensive two-year global tour.

LA DATCHA SeaXplorer 77 has a volume of 2,560 Gross Tonnage and accommodates 12 guests, including two master suites, together with 25 crew. The yacht’s exterior design is by Azure Yacht Design, while the interior is by the owner’s choice of designer, Vasiliy Shprits and his studio, which has also designed many of the owner’s residential properties.

YACHT DEBUT

E, a new environmentally conscious charter yacht designed in partnership with Sunreef Yachts, was launched at Cannes Yachting Festival.

The world’s first Sunreef 60 with a high-powered electric propulsion system is a pioneering 60ft eco-catamaran that allows its guests to enjoy a luxurious sailing experience safe in the knowledge they are making as minimal impact on the oceans as possible.

E’s founders set out with a vision to change the face of the yachting industry and inspire change in order to protect the oceans. This passion for the ocean, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit and a fascination with cutting-edge technology led them to design E. To achieve this vision, they partnered with Sunreef Yachts along with some of world’s most prestigious minds and brands across the marine, technology, lifestyle and exploration sectors, developing a one-of-a-kind product; the first luxury eco-catamaran that allows its guests to ‘sail in silence’.

1939 FEADSHIP

Eighty years and two months after her initial launch in May 1939, the 15-metre Feadship Zephyr has been relaunched after a comprehensive rebuild.

Initially built by De Vries in Aalsmeer to a De Voogt design a decade before *) the two families joined forces with Van Lent to form Feadship, Zephyr was an innovative motoryacht for her day, one of the very first to have her design tanktested. Now, in early July 2019, she is making headlines again as a textbook example of how our maritime heritage can be restored to 21stcentury standards of comfort while retaining the historic ambience of days gone by.

There is something captivating about the cruisers designed and built by the soon-to-be members of Feadship in the years leading up to World War II. They exude classic style in the black & white photographs from the era while the yachts which have survived down the decades make an even more imposing impression in full-colour real life. And then, raising the bar even higher, there are the motoryachts of the Feadship Heritage Fleet which have been lovingly restored to their former glory. Zephyr is a truly worthy new member of this fleet in every respect. The current owner is an experienced Dutch sailor with a collection of boats old and new. He discovered Zephyr two years ago abandoned in a yard in the Netherlands having been stripped by a previous owner who had come up against the financial realities of a total rebuild project. Recognising the yacht’s pedigree as a member of the Feadship Heritage Fleet, the current owner paid off the debts and took over the project, one with which he has been very involved, ever since.

Dutch luxury yacht builder AMELS has sold a new 62-metre AMELS 206 from its Limited Editions range. The owner, who is from the Asia-Pacific region, will take delivery of the yacht in spring 2020 and plans to cruise destinations around the world.

The AMELS 206 features two VIP suites on Bridge Deck, signature round windows in the Owners Suite and forward enclosed store for two tenders up to 8 metres (26 ft). The yacht has a volume of 1,131 Gross Tonnage.

The owner has specified an elegant colour scheme in collaboration with exterior designer Tim Heywood and the AMELS design team, with a light grey hull and white superstructure highlighting the long lines from the Scimitar bow to the Swim Platform. The unique interiors are by Laura Sessa, working in collaboration with AMELS interior specialists.

The sale highlights the ongoing success of the AMELS Limited Editions approach, combining individual design choices with fast delivery. The yacht will be the latest delivery of Tim Heywood’s avant-garde design.

Yas Marina, the Middle East’s premier Superyacht marina, awarded 5 Gold Anchors, has become an official UAE entry point for international Superyachts.

In addition to this great news, the unique arrival experience presents newly accessible six-month navigation licenses and six-month visas, for crews of all nationalities.

The new entrance procedure will enable foreign flag vessels to avoid clearing through commercial entry ports. Instead, vessels can sail directly to Yas Marina for UAE clearance, with the authority services available onsite. The introduction will lessen delays, saving an average of eight hours waiting time, providing a seamless arrival experience. Where owners and crew have previously waited at commercial ports without a marina dock, they can now relax, stretch their legs, dine and continuing with daily tasks at their leisure.

On arrival, superyachts are assigned a berth on the visitors wharf as they enter Yas Marina waters. Guided by Yas Marina, officials from immigration, customs and quarantine will complete procedures immediately – including filling declaration papers and other formalities. The first vessel clearance of this kind was M/Y Caiphirina (60m), arriving successfully to Yas Marina on March 21 this year.

OCEAN THRILLS:

Craftsmanship and expertise combine with an inborn thrust towards innovative design, technology and aesthetics, officially marking the brand’s entry into the superyacht sector: it is the launch of Pershing 140, the brand’s new flagship and the first Pershing to be manufactured in aluminium.

A result of the collaboration between architect Fulvio De Simoni, the Ferretti Group Product Strategy Committee (led by engineer Piero Ferrari), and the Group’s Engineering Department, the new 140-foot yacht is the first Pershing manufactured at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona. Developed into 3 spacious decks, the new flagship emanates prowess on water, showcasing the “thrill” that only Pershing can offer.

The project’s philosophy is based on the will to maintain Pershing’s unequalled performance, albeit with different class weights and dimensions: those of a superyacht. The hull platform was specifically designed for high performance, featuring excellent hydrodynamic capabilities at high speeds and the propulsion of 4 MTU 16V2000 M96L engines, each of 2,600 HP, thus achieving the target of taking the first 43.30-metre LOA Pershing superyacht to a top speed of 38 knots.

But Pershing 140 is not only the brand’s first superyacht to boast outstanding performance; it is also the first to feature a raised cockpit directly connected to the sun deck; the first to have an owner-dedicated area on the main deck and the first to maximise the enjoyability of all the decks and outdoor areas. This achievement was made possible by joining them all into a beach club area, which becomes expandable thanks to three fold- out sides.

Stylistically, the new flagship stands out for its sleek lines, emblematic of the brand’s sporty and competitive character. This feature is further enhanced by the on-demand application of a steel grid on the bow. Moreover, it combines design innovations with some of the brand’s most iconic details, such as the two lateral wings, that are integrated into its superstructure and then connected at the start of the walkways to the gunwale. The prow, which is instead decidedly contemporary in design, contributes to enhance the model’s aerodynamics. The whole area of the bow moorings is concealed, operated with an automatic up/down mechanism to maintain the streamlined design aesthetic.

Turning now to the interior, Pershing 140 owners can design their superyacht assisted by the designers of the Studio Fulvio De Simoni Firm and by the Project Architects of the Superyacht Yard of Ferretti Group. The entire interior design is tailored to mirror the owner’s style, by making additions to or modifying the

layout options offered by the shipyard. The new Pershing 140 features an original layout of the aft area, configured as a raised cockpit that becomes a mezzanine level: this creates a large waterside space that rises from the water up to the sun deck and joins together the entire aft section. This revolutionary design produces a vast waterside beach club, entirely accessible and furnishable with stools, chairs and freestanding pieces. The garage can accommodate both a Williams 565 tender and a jet ski. Launching and hauling operations are carried out by opening the two side hatches on the port side.

The space below decks accommodates four comfortable guest suites, of which 2 have double beds and 2 have twin beds, all with their own closet and en suite bathroom.

Maximum comfort is also given to the crew area: after walking through a lobby, the staff can access a large kitchen on the left, separated from the dinette by a door on the right and, proceeding towards the bow, there are

three bunk-bed bedrooms, all with a private bathroom. From the lobby, the crew can also have direct access to the engine room and to the garage.

The upper deck of the Pershing 140 is perfectly in line with the overall privacy assured to the central part, which is protected by an aluminium hard-top. Conceived as a spacious panoramic terrace, it is entirely furnishable with freestanding pieces, and it can be accessed by walking up from the mezzanine deck or from the raised cockpit.

The ample forward outdoor spaces, only accessible through the lateral walkways, offer an area with a large sun pad just before a full-fledged concealed lounge equipped with a Jacuzzi, an inset dinette with two seats, a table and a sunbathing area. This area is only revealed when the yacht is anchored or moored while, during navigation, it is covered by a sliding platform, thus contributing to the streamlined sleekness of the external lines. The arrangement of this private area, as well as many others, can be completely tailored to the owner’s tastes. Consistent with the DNA of the Pershing range, the domotics and electronic systems are all state-of-the-art. And, in line with Ferretti Group’s tradition of making high performance its core value, while also ensuring maximum wellbeing and relaxation, the new 140-footer is equipped with 3 Seakeeper 35 to assure top comfort also at anchor, after experiencing a day marked by the “thrill” that only a Pershing can give.

SUNREEF 80 GIJA

Following her sea trials in the Baltic Sea, the Sunreef 80 GIJA was recently successfully delivered at the Gdansk Shipyard in Poland.

This 80ft luxury craft belongs to the shipyard’s new range of sailing catamarans and is intended exclusively for private navigation.

GIJA’ vast main saloon features a cosy lounging area to starboard, a dining space to portside and a central kitchen island with a wine-cooler and retractable TV. To the bow, the saloon gives access to the generous forward terrace. Towards the aft, the sliding door opens onto the cockpit, offering alfresco dining space, a wet bar and also a multifunctional aft platform.

Down in the hulls, GIJA sleeps up to six guests in supreme comfort thanks to a smart threecabin layout. The yacht’s starboard hull houses the opulent master suite with a king-size bed, a sofa, desk, dressing corner and an elegant bathroom clad in light grey quartz. Further to the bow, the guest cabin features a double bed, plenty of storage and a big bathroom. Another identically set up cabin is found in the port hull along with the yacht’s two galleys and crew quarters.

Designed for daytime lounging and dining, GIJA’s flybridge offers immense living space with large sunbeds, a BBQ bar, a large heightadjustable table and free-standing furniture. The latest in the Sunreef 80 series, which saw another delivery, Gaya, before the end of last year, boasts desirable outdoor areas elsewhere. Up top, for instance, the flying bridge beckons with big sunbeds. There’s no need to go below for meals, either, due to a barbecue here. Back on the main deck, meanwhile, the saloon yields access to a foredeck terrace, between the hulls. Speaking of the hulls, all staterooms, including the master, are contained within them. Gija has a three-stateroom configuration, with the master and one guest stateroom to starboard. Even though the two guest cabins are separate, they’re identical in size and design. The light greys characterizing the common areas above characterize the master, too, especially the en suite bath. Bold purples mix in as well. Interestingly, Gija has a slightly larger mainsail than other Sunreef 80 deliveries. It’s more than 2,292 square feet (213 square meters).

GULF CRAFT: NOMAD 95 SUV

FROM DUBAI TO CYPRUS

When Bader Mubarak first saw his new Gulf Craft Nomad 75 SUV yacht, simple pleasure cruises and lazy days anchored off the coast were the furthest thing from his mind. He instantly set his sights on something far more adventurous and decided to sail his UAEbuilt yacht from Dubai all the way to Cyprus for the ultimate Mediterranean summer holiday. The Emirati CEO of Fish Farm LLC comes from a proud family of sailors, with his father having set up Mubarak Marine LLC with his two brothers in 1979, so the 3,300-nautical mile journey across five different bodies of water appealed to Bader’s two favourite pastimes – spending time at sea and overcoming challenges.

“We needed something comfortable for this trip and the Nomad 75 SUV was perfect,” he said. “A boat this size gives you range and speed.” Bader purchased his yacht from Gulf Craft’s Ajman dockyard, naming it ‘Dubai Moon’.

The journey involved 18 days at sea, taking in the Arabian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, Indian Ocean, Red Sea and finally the Mediterranean. Along the way the ‘Dubai Moon’ was dwarfed by oil tankers, container ships and huge cruise liners as it sailed some of the busiest shipping lanes in the world before passing through the magnificent Suez Canal alongside famous superyachts and dropping anchor in the Cypriot port of Limassol.

SHADOW was the first build of the successful YS 5009 design to feature dedicated guest accommodation, whilst still maintaining support yacht functionality with a large deck area, high-performance crane and extra accommodation for 4 staff, pilots, security or guides. She is a great example of how this popular YS 5009 design continues to evolve and develop meeting specific yachting and client needs.

We at Hadag Magazine recently had the privilege of experiencing this automobile excellence when we were invited by the team at Porsche Centre Bahrain to test drive the new Porsche Cayenne Coupé

One may think that the Cayenne Range has only a certain amount of room for improvement after which only the bells and whistles can be upgraded. This is not the truth as was proven to us by this new model SUV. We immediately noticed the dynamic fresh design of this third-generation model, complete with its sharper lines and unique rear section. The elegant roofline of this athletic looking vehicle has a sharper slope to it that falls away to the rear making it the sportiest-looking model in the segment. The roof spoiler accentuates this effect and is combined with a new adaptive rear spoiler that form part of the label’s new Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). This spoiler extends by 135 mm from speeds of 90 km/h upwards, increasing the contact pressure of the rear axle, whilst the PAA simultaneously improves efficiency. The A-pillar and front windscreen are now flatter than previous Cayenne models, with the roof edge having been lowered by around twenty millimetres. The rear doors and fenders have also been redesigned, adding to this SUV’s powerful and sophisticated presence. An impressive 2.16 m2 fixed glass roof is fitted as standard, although a contoured carbon roof is also available upon request.

Once inside the luxurious cabin area, we instantly noticed the abundance of space on offer. This freedom of movement combined with the new eight-way sports seats complete with integrated headrests, ensure unparalleled levels of comfort, support and functionality. All of the materials, trimmings, fabrics and finishes found inside are of premium quality and the overall design is simply exceptional. This new Coupé features a rear bench that

has the characteristics of two individual seats that are fitted as standard, although the familiar comfort rear seats can be fitted as an alternative at no extra cost. The spaciousness of the cabin is echoed in the rear with ample leg, shoulder and head room providing an exceptionally comfortable space for passengers. The 625-litre boot capacity ensures this car is capable of transporting a generous amount of luggage, giving it an element of practicality. This can be increased to 1,540 litres when the back seats are folded flat. More than impressed with both the interior and exterior of the vehicle, it was time to experience it’s on road capabilities.

As soon as foot was applied to pedal, we could not help but smile at one another as we felt our bodies being pressed back into our seats. The Cayenne’s turbocharged V6 engine roared smoothly as we effortlessly surged forward along the tarmac. With a threelitre displacement delivering 340 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, this sporty SUV has more power on offer than should ever be required. With the Sport Chrono Package fitted in series production vehicles, this midsized luxury SUV races from 0 – 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 243 km/h. With the PAA assuring we stayed glued to the ground as we powered around corners and sped along the straights, we found the handling of the vehicle to be superb and always felt in complete control of the experience. This feeling of security was hugely enhanced by an extremely efficient braking system as well as the presence of a multitude of standard safety features.

The term “time flies when you’re having fun” certainly applied here and all too soon we found this lavish experience nearing an end as we made our way back to Porsche Centre Bahrain. Our conclusion: If you are looking for an extravagant SUV that delivers in all areas of functionality, performance, design and pure class, then look no further than the exuberant new Porsche Cayenne Coupé

The Approved pre-owned certification programme reflects the marque’s unrivalled standards through an intricate inspection process that guarantees the ultimate satisfaction for the programme’s customers.

We had the opportunity to review the experience of driving the Ferrari California T with the Ferrari Approved certification.

FERRARI APPROVED PROGRAMME

Through its Ferrari Approved, pre-owned initiative, pristine Ferrari vehicles that were once completely out of range to many have become that little bit more accessible. But before these preowned vehicles are made available to the public, they have to undergo a programme comprising a series of wide-ranging checks and numerous guarantees that have been approved by the parent company.

This is to ensure that any pre-owned Ferrari is operating at basically the same standard as a brandnew vehicle. To begin with, the local Ferrari dealership implements a detailed technical inspection of each and every car. This is carried out by a team of highly skilled Ferrari technicians who have

undergone training at Maranello in Northern Italy, the home of Ferrari.

One of their very first tasks is to verify the origin and maintenance history of these vehicles to ensure they have been properly taken care of and have no major accidents in their service history. These technicians painstakingly prepare both the exterior and interior of each car to ensure that every aspect of the vehicle is in top condition. This fastidious process then enables them to provide a guarantee for these cars of up to 24 months.

If you are wondering how thorough these inspections are, all in all a total of 190 individual checks are carried out before a used Ferrari may be bestowed with an Approved “license”. This detailed examination includes a mechanical operation test as well as a test on the operation of the electrical system. Liquid levels are also carefully examined, as are the state of the suspension, brakes, cooling system and steering system. These are but a handful of the primary checks implemented on all vehicles.

On top of these, secondary checks are carried out on air conditioning, the dashboard and all safety systems. Operation of lights wheels and tires (including tread depth and pressure) are yet more examples of the car’s functional capabilities that are carefully inspected. All of this takes place in compliance with Ferrari standards of safety, performance and reliability.

Once these checks have been completed, seasoned testers put the car through its paces to ensure it is functioning at 100 percent. Thanks to these detailed inspections, all those who purchase a pre-owned vehicle from an authorised Ferrari dealership will receive a written analysis of all of the tests performed. The transparent nature of the history of Ferrari Approved models ensures every item of information is verified. Anyone purchasing a Ferrari Approved car will enjoy the benefits of a Ferrari warranty as well as roadside assistance for up to 24 months.
