At Hadag HQ, we’re finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that there are only two months to go until another new year graces us. It has indeed been a challenging year for the yachting industry and marine world, and although things have started to get back to some semblance of normal, we think it’s only right that the hardships of the past 10 months are remembered with poise and grace.

As we continue to dream of luxury escapes and mega yachts out at sea, this issue of Hadag hopes to bring you a step closer to turning those dreams into reality. We have a sneak peek of tennis superstar, Rafael Nadal’s brand new 80-foot luxury motoryacht, the 80 Sunreef Power Great White. CRN’S CREATIVE EXCELLENCE

CRN, the historic shipyard and Ferretti Group brand, announced the signing of a contract for a new custom 52-metre full-aluminium yacht, the yard’s hull number 142.

his new pleasure yacht project has been developed by the CRN Technical Office with design and architecture studio Omega Architects helmed by Frank Laupman, who created the concept, and designers Massari Design for the interiors. CRN’s passion and consummate skill unite with the talents of the two partner studios to shape an absolutely unique masterpiece that mirrors the owner’s personality to great effect.

A low-profile vessel with flowing lines that glisten with sporty spirit, this new fully custom yacht has been designed with truly harmonious proportions. She combines extensive outdoor areas and airy indoor spaces with large windows for constant direct contact with the sea. This 52-metre beauty is the third successful collaboration with Omega Architects, following on from the iconic 73-metre Yalla (2014) and the fabulous 62-metre CRN M/Y 138, currently under construction.

CRN is now constructing four fully custom yachts: CRN M/Y 137 62m, CRN M/Y 138 62m, CRN M/Y 139 72m and CRN M/Y 141 60m.

A total of 386 metres of new Custom Line gems touched the water in the first six months of 2020, built with the skill and dedication of specialist Custom Line craftspeople.

ustom Line continues to win more and more yacht owners and admirers, as production continues in full swing. Testament to this are the 19 launches planned for 2020: 11 have already taken place, and the next 8 are scheduled before the end of the year at the Ancona shipyard.

The yachts undergo their final fitting-out and completion work at the Custom Line docks, followed by testing and sea trials.

Custom Line currently has 21 yachts under construction – 13 in the sheds and 8 at the completion and dock testing stage prior to delivery to their owners.

Damen Yachting hosted a three-day event for clients at its yard in the south of the Netherlands. At the “Amels and Damen Yachting Private View 2020”, the yard showcased around 10 yachts from their portfolio of Amels superyachts, SeaXplorers and Yacht Supports.

eadlining the live event was LA DATCHA, the brand new 77-metre SeaXplorer luxury expedition yacht which still has charter availability for her busy 2021 worldwide itinerary. The team at Damen Yachting developed the event so clients could tour a range of yachts without the safety concerns that have resulted in the cancellation of boat shows including this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Recently delivered to tennis superstar Rafael Nadal the 80 Sunreef Power Great White has been making waves in the industry since its completion. Sunreef Yachts revealed exclusive pictures of the man himself on board his 80-foot luxury motoryacht. Hadag has the scoop…

Launched at the Sunreef Yachts shipyard in Gdansk – Poland, the 80 Sunreef Power catamaran was officially handed over to her owner – Rafael Nadal, in his hometown of Mallorca.

The 80 Sunreef Power yacht ordered by Rafael Nadal is an ultramodern vessel created for long offshore cruising and featuring a living area of over 360 m2. This dynamic and elegant model combines comfort and exceptional seaworthiness.

The yacht has fully personalised interiors, including an impressive main deck saloon with access to the front terrace, an owner’s suite with an opening side balcony and luxurious guest cabins with ensuite bathrooms.

The whole interior is kept in bright elegant beige, cream and coffee colors. Among the yacht’s spectacular features is a spacious flybridge with bar, barbeque and relaxation area as well as a stern garage for jet ski. The yacht is equipped with twin 1200 HP engines.

An experienced boater, Rafael Nadal has been passionate about yachting since childhood and seizes every opportunity to go out into sea with friends and family. The idea to build a customised catamaran has been part of the superstar athlete’s plans for a while. Seduced by both the yacht’s design and living space, he joined Sunreef Yachts’ family of owners, taking delivery of Great White last month.

The 80 Sunreef Power Great White accommodates up to eight guests thanks to her comfortable four-cabin layout. Her starboard hull houses the Owner’s suite, one of the yacht’s guest cabins and the crew quarters.

With generous living space, the master stateroom features a walk-in dressing, a sofa, a flip-down ceiling TV above the double bed and a private fold-out balcony. The port hull accommodates for two more roomy guest cabins as well as the catamaran’s galley. Great White’s light-filled saloon offers two oversized lounging sofas by the aft cockpit, a dining space for 8 to the bow and two 77’’ TV’s installed back-to-back. An additional lounging spot was set up next to the bow terrace entrance.

The catamaran’s full-beam stern cockpit provides for an outstanding alfresco dining space well protected from sun and wind and fitted with a weatherproof TV. Below the

large sofa, Great White’s aft garage conceals a large jet-ski and a selection of water toys along with a refuelling station. A wide hydraulic swim platform has been installed to carry the yacht’s tender and offer an extra sunbathing spot beside the water. The flybridge provides guests with an exterior lounge arranged in cosy seating areas, a bar, big sun pads and a pop-up TV. Great White’s propulsion comes from twin 1200HP engines allowing for a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots.

Damen Yachting has introduced the luxury expedition yacht LA DATCHA, which emerged from her building hall in the Netherlands ready to take to the seas.

This highly anticipated 77-metre SeaXplorer was delivered towards the end of the summer and headlined the first ever Amels and Damen Yachting Private View Event.

LA DATCHA’s launch marks the start of the final stages of her build process before she heads on an unrivalled global charter itinerary which is set to include heli-skiing in Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands and dive adventures off Papua New Guinea. This a yacht built for adventure – custom designed to explore the world’s farreaching destinations without compromising on luxury. The 12 guests will enjoy custom superyacht interiors created by architect Vasiliy Shprits with the comforts of the salon and lounge as well as the extra-large Beach Club with sauna, steam room, massage and gym at their disposal. Some 25 crew will be on board to operate the extensive collection of toys, aircraft, tenders and equipment and support the exploratory natures of all charters. This is the second yacht from the Damen Yachting SeaXplorer range, the first of which was completed earlier this year. LA DATCHA features naval architecture completed by Damen Yachting’s inhouse design team and exterior lines by Azure Yacht Design. Key onboard features include the dual heli set up complete with a fully certified primary helideck as well as a standby deck for a second helicopter and a below-deck hangar which can accommodate both helicopters for safe stowage. The yacht also features complete onboard fuelling, autonomous systems and a bow observation lounge which offers unique 270-degree forward-facing views as well as icebreaking capabilities with an IMO Polar Code compliant hull.

The SeaXplorer 77 is available for charter under the LA DATCHA Tinkoff Collection Label. Her first charter is around the Mediterranean Sea in October on her way to the Indian Ocean for the winter of 2020/2021 charter season. The SeaXplorer range was introduced in 2015, a crossover innovation created by a top team of experts including the SeaXplorer design team, the Damen Research Laboratory, Azure Yacht Design and EYOS Expeditions, who provided hundreds of operational design features based on their real-world expedition experience.

SEA EAGLE II

The truly breathtaking contemporary three-masted schooner Sea Eagle II has been successfully delivered by Royal Huisman.

The world’s largest aluminium sailing yacht is now on her way to the Mediterranean. Sea Eagle II, designed by Dykstra Naval Architects and Mark Whiteley, features an impressive plumb bow and modern Panamax rig by Rondal, making her not only powerful but recognisable all over the world. With an overall length of 81m / 266ft, she is the largest yacht built at Royal Huisman’s shipyard and joins another Huisman build – Athena – in the top 10 ranking of the world’s largest sailing yachts. She is, by any measure, a head turning superyacht destined for greatness. Nearly all board systems, such as gensets, air conditioning, waste water treatment and electronics, were thoroughly tested in the year prior to launch to avoid any surprises during the commissioning stage. Strict Covid-19 regulations and detailed protocols introduced in Spring eventually allowed the team to safely “pick up where they left off” in these extraordinary times. The sail handling and remaining propulsion systems were successfully tested and signed off during recent trials, which even during testing gave very promising insights into this yacht’s capabilities.

Spectacular speeds over 21 knots can be achieved in the ultimate sustainable way by powering up SEA EAGLE II’s Rondal rig, which can carry over 3500 square meters of sail area evenly distributed over her carbon Panamax masts. The full sail area is controlled by 34 winches from sailing system integrator Rondal. The largest winches - for the yankee, staysail sheets and mizzen sheet runners - are capable of a tremendous 18 tons (18,000kg) pulling load.

Royal Huisman’s largest yacht ever was commissioned by the Owner of the 43m / 142ft sloop Sea Eagle (Royal Huisman, 2015) who in doing so, reaffirmed his confidence in the ability of the shipyard to build his ultimate dream-yacht. Globally-known for in-house manufacturing and designing, Sunreef Yachts now engages in a special collaboration focusing on one of the industry’s most exciting multihull concepts – the SUNREEF MM460 CAT.

With a constantly growing demand for large luxury sail catamarans, Sunreef Yachts has teamed up with one of the world’s best yacht designers, Malcom McKeon to present a radical superyacht concept – the SUNREEF MM460 CAT. The design is defined by its impressive glass superstructure, atop which sits a 60 sqm flybridge. This additional expanse of space not only gives the dual helm positions clear sight lines in all directions, but also provides a safe yet thrilling spot for guests to relax whilst the yacht is under sail, with fantastic elevated views.

Thanks to the yacht’s 16.65m beam, the aft deck can boast positively palatial proportions. Under the overhang of the flybridge, a sheltered lounge and al fresco dining area is created whilst further aft, L-shaped sofas nestle against the guardrail and disguise steps leading down to the swim platforms.

The main saloon is accessed via full height glass doors, which retract almost the full width of the superstructure and a spacious lounge and dining area, which expands to seat 18 guests, awaits. Positioned forwards on the main deck are the master and VIP suites. Of equal size, these ensuite cabins both feature a chaise lounge, desk and walkin wardrobe. The outlook is to the forward cockpit with its daybeds and Jacuzzi, which is reached via the main corridor. From the saloon, steps lead to the lower deck of either hull.

The starboard hull houses the guest accommodation, of which there are four ensuite cabins all convertible between double and twin configuration. To aft in the starboard hull, the Sunreef MM460 CAT carries a 6.2m tender and there’s space for additional water toys, scuba dive cylinders and compressor, as well as a wetsuit store. The crew/rescue tender is stowed in the forepeak and there’s also space for two jet skis below deck.

In the port hull, an aft beach club steals the limelight. It’s equipped with a bar counter and stools, an adjacent sauna and a 2.5m fold-down platform that provides direct access to the water from the port side. The crew quarters are also located in the port hull. There are three cabins with twin-bunks, plus an Engineer’s cabin and a Captain’s cabin, along with the crew mess, laundry and the yacht’s galley.

The Sunreef MM460 CAT is a capable and confident cruiser. She will take transoceanic passages in her stride and she is able to remain self-sufficient for extended periods of operation.

Gulf Craft has introduced the tri-deck superyacht Majesty 120, a new 37-metre addition to the Majesty Yachts – Superyacht Collection of luxury motor yachts.

The shipyard commenced its intention to build this superyacht back in early 2019 and are excited at its completion. Some of the features on this yacht include the electric powered systems which replaced all the hydraulic requirements onboard. Everything except for the engines and generators are electrically powered - from the fin stabilisers to the thrusters and steering, from the balconies to the passerelle, all services onboard will not require any use of hydraulics. Listening to market demands for more efficiency as well as more comfort onboard, the Majesty 120 not only meets these demands but represents a new era of Majesty Yachts around the world. Building on the quality and innovative design of the other models, the new model represents the best of the shipyard’s flagship brand.

THE MAJESTY 120: A CLOSER LOOK

Measuring 37 metres (120’) with a beam of 8.10 metres (26’) and a draft of 2.00 metres (7’), the Majesty 120 is constructed using advanced composites such as GRP and carbon fibre. Gulf Craft’s in-house design studio is responsible for her naval architecture and exterior design, while the Italian studio of Cristiano Gatto Design Team undertook her interior design. Aggressive lines and a demanding profile define the Majesty 120, with the signature Majesty Yachts windows lining the hull. Extensive use of glass offers an unparalleled connection to the outdoors with low bulwarks allowing for an ornamental glass railing design. Onboard, she accommodates up to 10 guests across five spacious staterooms in an inventive asymmetric layout. The lower deck features a lounge space in between the guest rooms for families and children to enjoy their time onboard. A total of seven crew are also accommodated in the lower deck. Amongst the standout features onboard the new Majesty 120 is a Jacuzzi on the sun deck as well as a hybrid beach club. Another example of innovative design and engineering, the beach club can be converted to a tender storage unit to ensure maximum fun on the water. Dedicated to the design and construction of a yacht that offers owners more usable living space, the Gulf Craft team undertook months of rigorous R&D to ensure ultimate space optimisation. As a result, the new Majesty 120 boasts 30% larger outdoor entertainment areas compared to its predecessor.

CONTEMPORARY INTERIOR DESIGN

Working to a design brief that called for a minimalistic boat to meet international tastes, designer Cristiano Gatto created a modern and contemporary interior design. Gatto, who has collaborated with the shipyard on projects including the Majesty 175 and Majesty 140, comments: “The Majesty 120 is the result of yet another fruitful collaboration with Majesty Yachts. A true testament to this collaboration, the Majesty 140 took the title of Best Interior Design at the 18th edition of the World Yachts Trophies in Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 for Best Semi-Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts from 30-50m. I’m extremely proud to be part of an open and productive merging of two different design cultures and look forward to our future projects together. For me, the

When pondering over the epitome of motorcar luxury and prestige, there is one brand that stands out above the rest. This brand is of course, Rolls-Royce. With over 116 years of vehicle production experience, this esteemed English manufacturer has been impressing the world with its offerings since the early 1900’s, and has consistently set the benchmark for ultimate quality and status. We at Hadag Magazine have been fortunate enough to test drive an array of deluxe vehicles over the years, however, this month we received the opportunity to test drive a model from this distinguished brand, namely the Rolls-Royce Dawn, compliments of the fantastic team at Rolls-Royce Bahrain.

As soon as the vehicle came into view, we knew we were in for a real treat. The exterior of the Dawn maintains the timeless Rolls-Royce design principles with its elongated bonnet, short front overhang, long rear overhang and high shoulder line. It has a powerful presence and athletic nature to it, accentuated through completely new panels that create a tighter looking surface.

The striking front end is complimented by a tapered ‘wake channel’ on the bonnet, emanating from the Spirit of Ecstasy’s wings. The design of the recessed front grille and lowered front bumper draws attention to the vehicle’s rear shoulders, emphasising the distinctive elegance of this model. Chrome ‘blades’ complement the car’s horizontal lines increasing the perception of power and width. At the flanks, the graceful profile of the vehicle is enhanced with the flawless transition from body to soft top. This top takes just 22 seconds to be silently lowered or raised and can be executed at speeds of up to 50km/h. In addition, 21-inch, polished wheels further highlight the sheer luxury of this Rolls-Royce. At the back end, the feminine ‘hips’ of Dawn taper towards the rear, incorporating the elegant ‘boat-tail’ design of the early RollsRoyce drophead coupés.

Once inside the vehicle, our very first action was to put the top down, revealing the splendour of Dawn to the world around us. As you would expect from a Rolls-Royce,

all of the materials, trimmings and finishing are second to none, with the combination of wood and leather dominating the layout. The four perfectly designed bucket seats are exceptionally supportive and comfortable and place you a position reminiscent of a launch. This vehicle feels fast, even when it is standing still. The two-door car is a full four-seater, ensuring maximum comfort wherever you are seated. Seats are separated by a full-length centre console and there is ample room on offer for all occupants.

As far as technology is concerned, Dawn has been fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, once again assuring this car is a cut above the rest. The discreet placement of this model’s technology adds to the super-luxurious feel of the interior and increases the unique nature of the vehicle. Dawn houses the Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller, an intuitive, one touch solution that ensures effortless access to media and navigation functions. Emulating seamless smartphone functionality, characters for navigation input or media searches can be finger-drawn onto its surface, whilst its ‘pull and pinch’ feature adds to the system’s smartphone like capabilities. Complete with a beautifully designed 10.25-inch high-definition screen and a one-touch call button located conveniently on the steering wheel, users can summon the car’s functions using simple voice commands. We

found this system to be of the highest quality, easy to use and very novel in its makeup. Beside from the multitude of outstanding internal features, what is perhaps most impressive about this vehicle, is its performance capabilities. Powered by a twin-turbo, 6.6-litre V12 powertrain engine that produces 420kW of power and 780Nm or torque, this driving experience is nothing less than exceptional. This beast of a machine can hurtle from 0 – 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250km/h. A newly designed suspension configuration, Rolls-Royce typical steering characteristics, a premium braking system along with remarkable traction control, ensures this is an experience no driver would ever forget. Needless to say, we received plenty of envious looks as we made our way along the tarmac.

All of these remarkable characteristics along with a range of top-of-the-line safety features, ensured we always felt secure and confident throughout our journey. In truth, we have only mentioned a fraction of what this car has to offer and have never experienced anything quite like the Rolls-Royce Dawn in all of our years of test-driving. We highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking to purchase the pinnacle of premium motorcar perfection.

Jaeger-Lecoultre and Mr Porter introduce the master ultra-thin Kingsman Knife Watch to celebrate the 20th Century Studios and MARV feature film by Matthew Vaughn, The King’s Man.

Jaeger-LeCoultre and Mr Porter have launched the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch, a limited edition of 100 timepieces, specially adapted for The King’s Man, the upcoming Kingsman origins film directed by Matthew Vaughn.

The newest film in the Kingsman series links past and present, going back 100 years to the origins of the Kingsman agency. So too has Jaeger-LeCoultre drawn upon its great historic mastery of ultrathin calibres to develop a new timepiece directly inspired by the celebrated 1907 ‘Couteau’ (couteau is French for knife) pocket watch. The Master Ultra-Thin Kingsman Knife watch is a refined dress watch that blends tradition and modernity in a manner perfectly suited to both The King’s Man and to contemporary style.

The aesthetic roots of the new watch are unmistakably those of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s traditional pocket watches: the very broad bezel slopes gently from the sapphire crystal to the edge of the case, creating a fine profile reminiscent of a knife blade and the winding crown, protected by its triangular bow, is placed at 12 o’clock. However, these timeless and traditional elements are brought right up to date with subtly modern details: simple index hour markers keep the dial refined and clean, while a finely drawn ring is repeated as a circular highlight on the bezel.

Presented in a classically elegant 40mm size, the pink gold case is just 4.25mm thick. The ultra-thin case houses Jaeger-LeCoultre’s celebrated hand-wound calibre 849. At just 1.85 millimetres thick, the movement underlines La Grande Maison’s century-old mastery of this demanding form of Haute Horlogerie: ultra-thin movements require a perfect ratio between thinness and solidity, to ensure that components retain sufficient strength to ensure reliable timekeeping.

It is a beautiful breezy day when we reach the beach, and the team equips us with our very own beach bags filled with cold towels and water. The pool area is also one of the nicest we have been to in Dubai with plenty of loungers and cabanas – the vibe is very summertime fine with everyone in a relaxed mood, enjoying a good book, chatting with friends or taking casual swims.

At the Spa at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, there is a clear passion for wellness, placing your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing at the centre of everything they do. Guided by the oriental heritage and influenced by the local cultural diversity of the UAE, the Spa offers a host of treatments and therapies unique to this property. There is everything from signature treatments, to the Nomadic Sensory Journey, which features Emirati drumming as part of the healing process, incorporating Asian beauty knowledge with cutting edge technology. If food is your forte, the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira has it all to make your stay exciting for every palate. Tasca is located on the sixth floor, a restaurant from culinary genius José Avillez. Named after the Portuguese word for tavern, Tasca is José Avillez’s first international opening, following on behind the Michelin-starred Belcanto as well as his other celebrated ventures in Portugal. Serving genuine Portuguese flavours with a contemporary twist, Tasca’s menu bursts with character and flavour. Complementing the menu is a grape list with the largest selection of Portuguese vino in Dubai as well as a tempting array of craft cocktails. Boasting spectacular views over Dubai’s glittering skyline on one side and the Arabian Gulf on the other, the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining on a terrace with an infinity pool. Served tapas style, the portions at Tasca are brilliant for sharing, meaning you can actually try everything you like the sound of. We would highly recommend the Braised and Marinated Tuna, the Garlic Prawns and the PanFried Wagyu. Service is at the level of what is to be expected at a venue that belongs to a MichelinStarred chef – everyone is clued up on the food and eager to make recommendations too.

The drive up to the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa speaks volumes about what awaits: a property that is as palatial on the outside as it is inviting on the inside. A stay here is hardly utilitarian in nature. It is about the luxury of escape, even if for a night, at a time when our “new normal” still feels unrecognisable – but they can’t take luxury away from us.

Bright and spacious, Sofitel Bahrain is a contemporary oasis of sorts. The beach resort is reminiscent of a shell beside the blue waters of Zallaq’s coast, gently curving around the white-sand bay. Meanwhile, a preponderance of marble and light fixtures offers contrast to dark hardwoods, tessellated ceilings, and other Arabesque accents. FACT checked into the sumptuous Prestige suite, where spectacular windows allow for the space to bathe in sunlight.

It comes complete with a terrace, exclusive lounge access, ornate objects d’art, fantastic views of the Arabian Gulf, and (wait for it) Hermès amenities. The term ‘embarrassment of riches’ comes to mind. Oh, and then there’s the ensuite bathroom of the Prestige suite, the grandeur of which is worthy of a quick mention. Two words that add to the appeal of that oversized oval bathtub? Mood lighting. However, we’d be remiss not to mention that each of the 262 rooms and suites comes with a private balcony, techie-friendly extras, and luxe furnishings that subtly add a sense of place –think: lanterns, trunks, and towering bedposts. You’re set, regardless of where you end up. Naturally, checking into a hotel – any hotel – in today’s world brings with it a bit of a novelty factor. But despite the pandemic still

making headlines and rattling nerves, Sofitel Bahrain stands in a league of its own. The property recently received the new ALLSAFE certification that is vetted by Bureau Veritas, becoming one of the first in Bahrain to achieve this feat. But let’s backtrack. Sofitel is a member of Accor, a hospitality group that considers the health and well-being of its guests and employees a key aspect of its DNA – long before face masks became the musthave accessory of 2020. To that end, Accor has established some of the most stringent cleaning standards and operational procedures in the world of hospitality to ensure guest safety as its properties reopen around the world. These standards had been developed alongside the aforementioned Bureau Veritas – a global leader in testing, inspections, and certification – under the ALLSAFE cleanliness and prevention label.

Here in Bahrain, Sofitel has been audited to achieve this label, which means you can be assured of things like frequent disinfection of high-touch areas, enhanced in-room cleaning using hospital-grade cleaning materials, temperature checks, contactless payment solutions, and more. A stroll through the sprawling grounds showcases such practices in motion. Signs remind guests to keep a safe distance, staff members consistently wear masks. It’s important to add that biosecurity protocols are also followed. Case in point: all of our bags were misted down with barbicide prior to entering the premises, while a partition at the front desk served to protect us during check-in. From the outset, it was clear that for Sofitel Bahrain, the safety of guests is no light matter.

Any foodie worth their salt knows that the hotel boasts some of the best eateries in the city, but as per government guidelines at the time of writing, restaurants can only accept dinein reservations for groups of up to 20 people. Don’t let that deter you, though, as the inroom dining has something for everyone. You access the menu by scanning the QR grid in your room – another noteworthy precautionary measure – to find a selection that pairs local traditions with global flavours while serving the usual suspects, too. Admittedly, the varying ambiences of the resort’s different restaurants is part of the experience of staying at Sofitel Bahrain, but the stunning views and creature comforts of your room sure will help – as will the indulgent Lotus Caramel Cheesecake that we can personally vouch for. It certainly set the tone for our afternoon of pure lounging on the private beach.

We were pleasantly surprised to see that sun loungers were spaced to allow for optimal social distancing, and an attendant helped secure our towels from an allocated hut before escorting us to a vacant spot, complete with umbrellas. The whole process felt slick and effortless, despite the introduction of additional safety measures. Somewhere between the sand, seawater, and obligatory round of sundowners, we momentarily forgot the realities of the outside world. Promise. And isn’t that the whole point of a luxury staycation?

When we crave fine dining where food is reliably delicious, there’s only one place in Bahrain that ticks the box. So, when a new menu at CUT by Wolfgang Puck came calling, Hadag answered. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in tender meats and fresh fish over a chat with executive Chef Brian Becher? That is exactly what we did.

Sometimes, a steakhouse is just a steakhouse. Other times, it’s a culinary institution that delights even the most discerning of palates worldwide – even if it’s not one that belongs to a big meat eater. CUT by Wolfgang Puck is one such example, drawing loyal patrons and true food-enthusiasts from across the country, courtesy of signature dishes such as Filet Mignon and Grandma’s Chocolate Cake. Now, the launch of a new menu can only mean one thing: we skip breakfast and thank our lucky stars for what’s to follow.

Executive Chef Brian Becher refers to a meal at CUT by Wolfgang Puck as “relationship dining” rather than fine dining. “The ethos of who we are is about our relationship to the ingredients (be that excitement or curiosity or passion or affinity), our guests’ relationship to the food we serve them, and our personal relationship with our guests. Good music, beautiful décor, ample parking, amazing views… these things are great and certainly help. But at its core, I believe the relationships we have with our guests is key, and I don’t think this will ever change.” What has changed over the course of the pandemic, however, is his perspective on the principle of trust.

They say they can’t wait to return as dine-in guests because they feel at home here.” Fortunate enough to be dine-in guests ourselves, our culinary journey begins before our first bite. The staff at CUT by Wolfgang Puck are friendly and attentive, talking us through the uber-fresh Steak Tartar that kicks things off with a combination of Dijon mustard, grilled country bread, and crispy beef tendon. But do we dare say the Red Snapper Tartar is even better? Chef Becher has ingeniously incorporated regional flavours like pine nuts and Peninsula Farms labneh into the appetiser, and it works.

Reflecting on this unusual time and its lessons, he says: “The last mistake I made – repeatedly, in fact – was thinking I could forecast when the restaurants would be allowed to reopen for dine-in service. When we shut down in midMarch, I thought for sure we would be open by Ramadan. And in Ramadan, I was certain we would be welcoming guests back by Eid al-Fitr. I learned pretty quickly that I had no ability to predict when the circumstances would change, so I decided to focus on making guests happy… and kept my sanity as a result.”

Back at the table, CUT by Wolfgang Puck’s Corn Cappelletti, which comes with beef chorizo and fresh Italian parsley, is also worthy of a mention – the sweetness of the corn and saltiness of the parmesan pair beautifully.

Another instant hit with everyone on the table is the Braised Veal Cheek. Not only is the meat melt-in-your-mouth tender, but a velvety harissa sauce and bed of couscous bring the whole dish together. We’re not ones to turn down cheese (of any sort), so of course the arrival of Fresh Italian Burrata is cause for celebration. Sinfully creamy, it’s served alongside duck prosciutto and fermented plums, the balance of flavours and textures speaking of Chef Becher’s talent. “When we open our doors to our guests, we have one shot to meet and exceed their high expectations. To me, anything less than excellent is a failure,” he says. And it shows. But bear in mind that CUT by Wolfgang Puck is not just about catering to carnivores.

Our taste buds revel in the Black Bass, the butter-poached summer vegetables, and the warm lemon vinaigrette that’s drizzled across. This is a feast we won’t soon forget, but it’s not over – the creations of executive pastry chef Abderazik Fourkou await. Both the Raspberry Chocolate Brownies and Strawberry Shortcake are elevated takes on old-fashioned favourites, but it’s the Chocolate Mango Chow Feung Roll that takes us by surprise - an Asian-inspired dessert that borrows from the best of mango season. Genius? We think so.

The classiest dining spot on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina, Cipriani serves every plate with the love and dream of founder Giuseppe Cipriani Sr’s vision of simple Italian food made to perfection.

Ascending the winding stairway that leads into the restaurant space, we are greeted with a friendly “Ciao” before being led to a glorious table close to the floor-to-ceiling windows that afford impressive views of the marina, where luxury yachts bob hypnotically on the water. Crisp white table linens and impeccably placed cutlery exemplify the grandeur of the Cipriani dining experience, representative of fine dining at its very best.

The expansive dining room gives the impression of dining on a yacht thanks to an abundance of glossy wood, blue upholstery, leather seats and grand mirrors, providing the restaurant with a nautical theme and one that feels undeniably classic. The dining tables wrap effortlessly around the central bar area, while at the figurative helm lies a sushi counter where fresh fish is sliced and prepared with impeccable precision.

Available year-round, Cipriani Yas Island’s à la carte menu has been built upon the concept of simple Italian food executed to perfection by a team of Italian chefs. Using a combination of local ingredients and premium products imported directly from Italy; everything from the pasta to the impressive desserts is made fresh daily in the Cipriani kitchen, adding authenticity to the menu. Appealing to different tastes is key to the Cipriani experience and you will notice that the menu is divided into two distinct cuisines, with the left page offering exquisite Japanese choices and the right page dedicated to the Italian fare for which Cipriani has become synonymous. No matter which cuisine you decide upon,

you’re unlikely to be disappointed - or do as we did and try them both.

The appetisers provide an appealing selection of Italian favourites. While our eyes are immediately drawn to the Burrata and the King Crab, we decide to stray from what would be our usual choices and explore the menu more thoroughly.

Opting for the Asparagus “alla Parmigiana” and the Carpaccio “alla Cipriani” we are more than a little delighted with our choices. The asparagus dish is ideal for vegetarians and offers a generous portion of vibrant green asparagus spears adorned with Parmesan cheese. At the same time, the thin slices of carpaccio are complemented by a spicy mayonnaise and simple green salad that allow the quality of the produce to shine through.

A plate of the Crunch Maki is also presented to the table so that we may indulge in the Asian side of the menu. The eight pieces of sushi comprise of crisp prawn tempura, yamagobo (a pickled Japanese root) and cool avocado. Presented amongst flowers carved from carrots, the execution is just as impressive as the European specialities, and it’s pleasing to see both cuisines represented so strongly at Cipriani.

With main courses drawing inspiration from classic dishes such as lamb chops, grilled salmon, black cod, Wagyu ribeye and chicken teriyaki. We have our hearts set on pasta and opt for the Homemade Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli with Butter and Sage and Spaghetti with Seafood and “Datterino” Tomatoes. The artistry in the creation of the pasta is immediately evident and the portions more than generous, with the stuffed ravioli boasting beautiful aromatics from the daintily produced parcels. The spaghetti is a revelation that perfectly balances the sweetness of the Datterino tomatoes with a slight heat and an abundance of tender lobster, shrimp and fish pieces. The al dente nature of the pasta provides the ideal texture, and the dish exemplifies the ethos of Cipriani to provide simple Italian dishes made from premium produce. While the meal is undoubtedly hearty, there’s always room for dessert and espresso, and the desserts at Cipriani are not to be missed! All of the desserts are presented to the table in their entirety. Hence, you can feast your eyes upon the chocolate cake, mille feuilles and lemons tarts before making your selection.

Having spotted the Vanilla Meringue on Instagram before visiting, we knew we had to order it, and upon recommendation from the Cipriani team we also select the Vanilla Ice Cream freshly whipped “a la minute.” Both dishes live up the hype, with the Vanilla Meringue comprising of a light sponge slathered in Italian meringue that is glossy, marshmallow-like in texture and utterly indulgent. The ice cream, while far less restrained is no less delicious. Offering a smooth texture thanks to the fact that it was created mere moments before it’s presentation to the table, add a sprinkling of chocolate sauce and candied nuts and you have dessert perfection.

Dining at Cipriani Yas Island has always been a special occasion venue that ticks the boxes when it comes to food, drinks, atmosphere and service. The Cipriani team are well versed in the menu and become the “captains” of our meal. Dressed in white jackets, they are very dapper and profoundly proficient, helping us to navigate the menu and beverage list while accentuating the remarkable dining experience.
