PRINCESS FLOWER

Like a Venetian Princess, Princess Flower belongs to the creative bouquet of the Princess family of collections. The flower made of small diamonds that decorates other Princess jewels has been reelaborated in this collection to become the focal point of each piece. It was a natural evolution for the ornamental flower to grow until it bloomed.

The corolla displays all of its nuances made of gold and precious stones. Malachite, mother-of-pearl and black jade together with gold and diamonds make up the petals of every flower. The characteristic twisted wire detail is also used here once again in the internal structure of the pieces to create a three-dimensional frame that holds the flower. Both the external part of the flower and the internal structure are created with 3D technology to guarantee the perfect proportions of the elements. Then, able craftsmen assemble the jewels, one by one, flower-after-flower. This special production process makes every flower in the collection the perfect result of balance and care, just like flowers in nature.

PALAZZO DUCALE

The façades of the palaces look like precious garments, uniforms that each building wears, shoulders back and head up, for as long as possible, in a sort of never-ending fashion show. The Doge’s Palace is Roberto Coin’s absolute favorite. It was the muse for the family of Princess collections as well as for this one, which was inspired by the geometric shapes on its façade. Together with the four-petal flower, the star feature of Princess Flower, this chiaroscuro geometric decoration made of marble and stone, is the quintessence of Gothic architecture in Venice. In the pieces of the collection, the chiaroscuro is created using black and white diamonds with polished and brushed gold. As a whole, the collection is quite simple but Roberto Coin has embellished every detail with a frame of twisted gold thread. The combination of this simplicity with a wealth of details gives each piece in the collection a majestic aura.

ART DECO

The most beloved collection of instagrammers is best described by its zig-zagging lines, wide curves, pointed angles and soft tassels. Every Art Decò creation embodies the severity of geometrics and the intensity of precious stones that, in this case are proposed in unusual, original combinations. The correlation to the Art Decò style is evident in the collection’s design. The rings evoke the symmetries of the buildings of the era, while the vibrant color combinations break the classic rules of harmony just as the Art Decò visual arts did. Throughout the process, from the initial contact on arrival at The Ritz-Carlton Spa a lot of emphasis was placed upon yourself as an individual and my hopes and expectations for my time here manifested themselves in an unobtrusive manner as we completed our consultation with our therapists. Before we had even begun to enjoy the spa experience itself I felt nurtured and important. The term ‘clients’ is too impersonal and sterile for those visiting, therefore, I will use the term ‘guests’ as this hints at the level of care afforded to everyone. As guests we were welcomed with ginger tea upon arrival as it is renowned for its ability to improve digestion, reduce pain, eliminate inflammation, relax the body and mind, aid in weight loss and boost the immune system. As you can imagine we began to feel better immediately!

My husband and I were welcomed warmly and shown to our private couple’s room. This title simply doesn’t suffice. The voluminously fluffy robes and pillow-like slippers are incredible and amplify the sensory experience, which isn’t hard to envisage since I was standing in an illustrious spa renowned for its standard of excellence. As we ventured

into our treatment room we were met with a beautifully decorated zone as we were met by soothing sounds and muted lighting. It epitomises the desire to induce calm and relaxation within every inch of this tranquil oasis. This Relaxation Massage employed techniques of skin rolling and long, firm sliding movements followed by strong palm pressure that stimulates blood flow deep within the muscle tissues. I spoke with my masseuse, prior to the massage and requested quite intense pressure as I felt that I was heavily knotted from the stresses of being a social butterfly. She obliged dutifully, employing the signature lavender oil with its soothing, antioxidant qualities to kneed my muscles and manipulate my joints spectacularly. The headed treatment bed cocooned by body to ensure I was as snug as one can be. I have never left a treatment room feeling so energised and feeling the skeletal benefits of the massage immediately - I can wholeheartedly say that this was the most beneficial massage that I have ever experienced showcasing immediate results. This was strikingly different from the usual sense of disappointment that you can feel immediately after some other establishments. The right

combination of sleep inducing motions allowed for the ultimate in full body massages. Our ensuite facilities afforded us the opportunity to freshen up following our treatments and actually proved a thankful commodity during the visit as we were able to leave looking just as groomed as when I arrived without worrying about our appearance.

The vast floor-to-ceiling glazing due to its style, projects a bright homely feel. A selection of candles allow for a conversation starter as you witness that the wax has formed its own level of artistic heights as it’s melted - you’ll know what I mean when you visit. Additionally the open wooden shelving units used to partition areas allow light to pass through them. An abundance of vases both large and small further add to the relaxed vibe. Sofas and winged, upholstered chairs invite you to linger rather than racing off once your meal is over. Adorning the walls of Haus is a multitude of paintings from Ghalia Abdul Jawad reflecting the complexities of human relationships and different emotions that we all share. This visual representation of a problem shared is a problem halved which blends well with the notion that food brings everyone together, which inevitably flows throughout the very DNA of Haus. You can even make your way upstairs to Haus Lounge where they have a DJ performing every weekend alongside live tunes including that of cello and saxophone performances. Not to

You cannot help but notice the high level of detail that has been executed to cater to their patrons and their desires, including The Courtyard where people can enjoy sitting outside for lunch or dinner in a relaxed environment - perfect for the months ahead.

As we sat down we were immediately presented with the freshest basket of bread you can imagine delivered directly to our table from the ovens of the on-site bakery. The chunky, rustic slices provided the perfect vessels to mop up remaining sauces, dips and reductions.

The menu offers not only variety but also originality. Salads, sharing dishes and warm starters draw inspiration from every continent. Baby spinach doused in sesame dressing was so simple yet utterly delicious. The dressing carried the whole dish and it complemented our other choices perfectly. Truffle marbled angus beef sliced paper thin so that it almost melted away on your tongue. Garlic chips and leaves added texture and freshness. The Burrata with sun blushed tomatoes was a shining example of how the team employs locally sourced produce to form the centrepiece of so many dishes. The stand-out starter was undoubtedly the fish tacos which were as beautiful as they were delicious. Fried fish in a light golden batter combined with pickled shallots and a vibrant, tangy tartar sauce housed in a soft shell taco. It was the perfect storm.

The exquisite presentation and intoxicating mix of flavours heightened our sense of anticipation for what was to follow. The flame grilled angus striploin with yakiniku sauce was so tender that it fell apart with almost no need for cutlery. The dipping sauce was sweet and created the perfect bite when combined with the charred, seasoned beef. The sea bream was locally sourced and the quality was evident in just how succulent the flesh was. The crispy skin, combined with the sweetness and crunch of sunblushed tomatoes and baby vegetables created a culinary explosion in our mouths.

It is reasonable to say that everyone has their ‘thing’. You are either a Starter and Main Course person or a Main Course and Dessert person but here at Haus you will find it impossible not to make your meal a trilogy. The desserts reinvent the familiar and elevate it to levels never experienced before. The date pudding alone would have been a triumph but combine it with the hot syrup and unctuous ice cream and it became a symphony of melodiousness. Naively I assumed that this couldn’t be topped until the chocolate fondant dessert was unleashed on us. Caramelised bananas formed a base for a dessert which is the gastronomic equivalent of a hug. Decadent and delicious. I doubt it is possible to explain in text the sensation of releasing the gooey fondant centre and combining it with the creamiest pistachio ice cream …. It seems this is something that you will just have to experience for yourselves. Reservations here are advised but not mandatory, however, I would highly recommend that you do if you’re wishing to dine with them for your Valentine’s Dinner from their decadent set menu for couples.

The masterminds at BMW have always pushed the envelope with each and every new model they produce. The brand’s third generation, high-performance Sports Activity Coupés (SACs) are a testament to their superior design capabilities. We at Ohlala were delighted to receive the opportunity to inspect and test drive the new BMW X6 M, compliments of the great team at Euro Motors.

At first glance the X6 M exudes supreme authority. It is the type of vehicle that looks in charge wherever it is driven. This latest edition has a more muscular overall appearance than its predecessors, as well as a more prominent backend design. Marginally longer and wider than the outgoing model, this latest version houses an extended wheelbase and sits closer to the ground. The powerful looking front-

end features a unique apron design and newly shaped kidney grille. Large air vents are in place to accommodate all of the necessary cooling this large vehicle may require. The exterior design flows effortlessly from the front into the sides, where protruding wheel arches emphasise the model’s wide track. This adds to the X6 M’s sports car like presence. Impressive 21-inch wheels contribute to the vehicle’s imposing stature, whilst additional air breather elements hint at this BMW’s on-road capabilities. The rearend finishes off the exterior design in style, complete with its Gurney spoiler and M Sport exhaust system, featuring the signature dual, double tailpipes. The beautifully designed, extravagant exterior is complemented by the luxurious ambience of the interior. As soon as we slipped into the generously sized, variableusage cabin, we felt as though we had been upgraded to first class. Only top-of-the-line materials, trims and finishes are to be found in the X6 M, with a level of premium craftsmanship that emphasises both quality and luxury. Not only are the M multifunction seats amazingly comfortable, and supportive, they offer a raised seating position that gives one a commanding view of the road. The M specific, high-performance design concept is present throughout

this vehicle, highlighted by the Setup Button on the centre console that enables direct access to the engine, damper, steering, M xDrive and braking systems. The exclusive selection of equipment fitted as standard includes the 12.3inch fully digital gauge cluster with large BMW HeadUp Display & M-specific readouts, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation system, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Parking Assistant and so much more. In the back, three children passengers can sit comfortably whilst the cargo area offers 27 cubic feet of storage space. Thoroughly impressed with both the exterior and interior of this beautiful machine, we were most excited to get it out onto the tarmac to see what it had to offer performance wise. As soon as we engaged the ignition, the sound of the 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology roared to life, instantly bringing a smile to all faces present. As we turned onto the road and applied pressure to the accelerator, we could feel the ample power of the high-revving engine. This V8 can produce 460 kW/625 hp and 750 Nm of torque. This allows the X6 M to launch from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds! That’s 0.4 seconds faster than the outgoing model. The engine works in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic

transmission that feeds a dynamic all-wheel-drive system. When power is distributed to all four wheels, traction is maximised resulting in superior handling and control. The various drive modes can be selected via buttons located on the steering wheel which allow one to optimise the vehicle’s performance in various conditions. We found the handling and integrated braking system of the X6 M to be of a superior standard and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day driving around in this mechanical work of art.
