Editor’s Letter

September is here, bringing a new season. Autumn comes quite shy in this part of the world, but it’s a sign that the hot weather will eventually surrender and the cool breeze will finally hit us – I said eventually –don’t get too excited if it’s your first weather change in the Middle East. The good news, though, comes for fashionistas: it’s wardrobe revamping time! I must confess that I am a bit sick of all the summery clothes and can’t wait to embrace the new styles. We bring a selection of must-wear pieces from the AW 2024/2025 collections that we believe will be the talk of the town.

The beauty scene has an array of new products, but we are a bit obsessed with lipsticks and autumn and winter make-up trends – it might be time to explore a new way to apply your eyeliner. If you are looking for some pampering time to recover after summer vacation, Wellness Spa Villa at Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain has a vast menu waiting for you – we went for a cooling experience.

I visited Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar in the Omani mountains to find the perfect escape from the heat with spectacular views and fun activities. The place is magical and a must-see to add to your bucket list.

We dined at SUSHISAMBA at the newly open Conrad Bahrain Financial Harbour. Come with us on this dining experience to discover what this restaurant that mixes Japanese, Peruvian and Brazilian cuisines has to offer.

And, just like every month, we end our issue driving an eye-catching vehicle. This time, the motoring experience was behind the wheel of the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron.

Sweater weather, we are ready for you!

Odd ONE OUT

The fashion world is a strange place when you look closely. Every new season comes accompanied by bizarre creations. We selected a few items that stood out in the vast pool of oddness. Check them out!

Talk about unusual, these calf hair boots feature a hoof-inspired round toe with horseshoe sole from Alexander McQueen. Would you wear them?

Jacquemus at FARFETCH is a brand well-known for pushing the boundaries of fashion. But do you think they went too far with this doubledecker mule?

A black handbag is a mandatory item in every girl’s wardrobe, but covered in small bells, as proposed by Bally, might be an odd pick. People will surely know you are on your way. Is it a yay or nay?

Winter gloves are made of soft materials to keep our hands warm. However, Louis Vuitton went the extra mile in the fluffiness aspect with super hairy ones. Fashion statement or Yeti style?

A feathery hat that, if you look fast enough, seems like a sleek updo could be your next Prada purchase. Where would you wear it?

JUST FOR GIRLS

Bid farewell to flowy printed skirts and welcome faux leather and knitted numbers. Coming in midi and maxi versions, opt for colours such as burgundy, caramel or mustard to embrace the autumn shades of the falling leaves.

EXPERIMENTAL

CAPES

Not all heroes wear them, but every stylish girl does! However, the capes proposed by designers this time are not as obvious as in previous collections. For this season, they come in different forms and shapes, adding a sense of layering to the outfits.

WINTER SHOES TO LOVE

Boots are the indisputable footwear for the cold weather, but the season is not only made of them. Shoes with closed toes and heels, such as in the D'Orsay style, are an elegant pick to elevate your casual looks, just like magic.

TURTLE EFFECT

Hide yourself under cosy jumpers and coats this winter. The no-neck look is the best pick for those days when the wind blows more vigorously – there is nothing better than to seek shelter in a comfy shell.

DRAMATIC HEMS

The attention here is on voluminous frills and fringes to add a striking twist to plain skirts and dresses. From Brunello Cucinelli’s feathery ends to Louis Vuitton’s imposing mermaid style, this detail is a keeper!

LOUIS
VUITTON

HYPER Feminine

This month, we picked a colour duo, pink and black, which is popular in the new season, to highlight a trendy 2020s’ aesthetic: the coquette. The style is characterised by mixing romantic and playful elements, such as lace and bows, and is inspired by historical periods like the Victorian Era and the 1950s’ silhouette. Girly girl mode on!

CAROLINA HERRERA STELLA

Catch up on this month’s fashionable moments, from game-changing collaborations to groundbreaking sustainability efforts.

Indian, Eclectic & Chic

H&M has joined forces with celebrated Indian designer Anamika Khanna to bring her distinctive blend of traditional Indian craftsmanship and modern design to the global stage. This collaboration highlights Anamika’s talent for seamlessly merging India’s rich sartorial heritage with contemporary fashion, resulting in a collection that reimagines classic silhouettes with a fresh, modern perspective. The collection features fluid, flattering styles with vivid colours, patterns and hand-embroidered embellishments. For women, there are elegant draped skirts, airy kaftans and silk pyjama sets, while menswear offers traditional cuts refreshed with graphic prints. Anamika Khanna’s dazzling jewellery is made from reclaimed metal and crafted in India – a testament to the designer’s eclectic style – combining glamour, intricate craftsmanship and a forward-thinking approach to design.

A Step Towards Sustainability

BOSS is redefining its approach to fashion with THE CHANGE sneakers, an indication of the brand’s commitment to innovation backed by sustainability. Crafted using HeiQ AeoniQ (an innovative yarn), these trainers are designed with a clear purpose: to reduce reliance on oil-based materials like polyester and polyamide. This original yarn, first introduced in BOSS’s 2023 limited-edition collection, represents a meaningful step towards the brand’s ambitious goal of eliminating oil-based materials by 2030. The footwear is an exciting blend of style and substance. With 85% of the upper made from HeiQ AeoniQ, they offer durability and comfort, while the laces and labels are also composed entirely of this eco-friendly material. The shoes are more than just a fashion statement; they’re a thoughtful move that reflects a deeper understanding of fashion’s impact on the planet.

A Decade of an Icon

Stella McCartney’s Elyse platform shoe is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a limitededition capsule collection, showcasing its enduring appeal and commitment to crueltyfree fashion. Originally debuting in 2014, the Elyse combines the structured look of a men’s Derby with a bold, feminine platform, making it an instant icon. To mark this milestone, the capsule features monochromatic styles in black, red, white and a dazzling lead-free crystal design. Each pair is meticulously handcrafted in Italy using 100% vegan materials, from the FSC-certified wooden wedge to the animal-free glues. Elyse’s design embodies Stella McCartney’s vision of blending masculine and feminine elements while promoting sustainability. Over the past decade, it has become a favourite among celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Beyoncé and Rihanna. This anniversary collection not only celebrates a fashion milestone but also underscores the brand’s commitment to protecting the planet and advocating for cruelty-free alternatives in luxury fashion.

High-Jewellery on Screen

Boucheron has partnered with Netflix’s Emily in Paris, bringing the glamour of its flagship at 26 Place Vendôme to the fashionable TV show. In Season Four, Episode Two, fans can spot the luxurious interiors of Le 26V, the exclusive apartment above the Boucheron boutique, as the backdrop for key scenes featuring the stars of the show, Lily Collins and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu. The collaboration between Boucheron and Netflix began in Season Three, when the maison was introduced as a potential client for the show’s marketing agency. This connection deepened in Season Four, with Boucheron providing around 100 pieces from its collections to be part of the series, including the iconic Quatre line, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Le 26V, a beautifully refurbished suite within the Hôtel de Nocé, perfectly captures Boucheron’s essence of elegance and family spirit, making it an ideal setting for the show.

Shining Bright

Emirati singer Balqees Fathi joins Maison Messika’s circle of friends in the brand’s latest campaign, celebrating the iconic Lucky Move Color collection. Directed by Valérie Messika, the shoot captures the singer’s radiant personality against a dynamic backdrop, highlighting the collection’s elegant interplay of gold, semi-precious stones and diamonds. Since her 2013 debut, Balqees has infused modernity into Arabic music and empowered women through her art and entrepreneurial ventures. Her confident and passionate nature aligns perfectly with the Lucky Move Color medallion, which smoothly turns to reflect its dynamic spirit. Photographed by Ben Fourmi, the campaign transforms the necklace into a powerful symbol of self-expression. The vivid turquoise gemstone represents freedom and adventure, mirroring the singer’s own journey. This campaign not only showcases Messika’s timeless designs but also reflects a deep connection between the artist and the maison’s creations.

GOLDEN LEGACY

Tiffany & Co. honours the 50th anniversary of Elsa Peretti’s partnership with the house, celebrating a half-century of visionary design.

Elsa Peretti’s arrival at Tiffany & Co. in 1974 marked the beginning of a new era in jewellery design. Her unique approach, inspired by nature and organic forms, revolutionised the industry, creating designs that have remained iconic for decades. In 2024, Tiffany & Co. celebrates her enduring legacy with special anniversary creations that continue to reflect her pioneering spirit.

Elsa’s designs, such as Bone, Diamonds by the Yard and Open Heart, introduced a fresh aesthetic, which was characterised by sensual, fluid shapes that broke away from traditional norms. Her work was about more than just creating beautiful pieces; it was about empowering women to see jewellery as an extension of their own identity. She created pieces that deeply resonated with those who valued both beauty and meaning, inviting women to purchase jewels for themselves rather than waiting to receive them as gifts. This shift was revolutionary at the time and has since become a hallmark of her legacy.

To honour the five decades of the designer’s collaboration with the house, some of her most beloved creations are being reissued with exceptional gemstones and bold scales. These anniversary editions include new Bone and Split rings, rare Bone cuffs set with pavé diamonds and rubies, and limited-edition Mesh styles featuring vibrant stones like tanzanites, rubellites and emeralds. Additionally, her iconic Bean, Starfish and Scorpion pieces will be available in fresh, contemporary forms.

Elsa’s influence on the brand and the world of jewellery remains profound. As these pieces are released, they serve as a tribute to a designer who not only transformed jewellery making but also redefined how women relate to their adornments. Her legacy continues to inspire, ensuring her work remains as relevant and captivating today as it was five decades ago.

MINI YET MIGHTY

Audemars Piguet revives the iconic Royal Oak in a 23mm mini form, merging classic jewellery craftsmanship with modern sensibilities.

Audemars Piguet, the renowned Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer, proudly presents the Royal Oak Mini. This new miniature timepiece, measuring 23mm in diameter, is available in 18-carat yellow, white or pink gold. These monochrome watches combine the robust aesthetic codes of the original Royal Oak with the shimmering brilliance of Frosted Gold, creating a striking visual effect. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s rich history of creating miniature and jewellery watches, this trio of petite timepieces offers a contemporary interpretation of the 20mm Mini Royal Oak launched in 1997. By rethinking the proportions, architecture and performance of the smallest Royal Oak ever made, the new Mini Oak collection continues the brand’s legacy while adapting to modern lifestyles and slender wrists. Its quartz movement boasts over seven years of battery life, combining elegance with practicality. The models feature the exquisite Frosted Gold finish, a technique adapted from an ancient Florentine jewellery method by designer Carolina Bucci in 2016. This finish involves creating tiny indentations on the gold surface with a diamond-tipped tool, resulting in a sparkle reminiscent of precious stones. This technique enhances the watch’s connection to the world of jewellery, a tradition dating back to Gérald Genta’s original design in 1972. The design plays with light through its intricate combination of finishes. The diamond-dust effect of the Frosted Gold contrasts beautifully with the polished bevels outlining the octagonal bezel and bracelet links. The satin finish on the case and bracelet flanks adds depth and texture, while the solid caseback, featuring sandblasting, satin brushing and polishing, echoes the overall design. This meticulous juxtaposition of finishes ensures perfect alignment and a harmonious play of light. The dial of the Royal Oak Mini is equally captivating. The tone-on-tone Petite Tapisserie pattern enhances the luminous effect. Faceted gold hour markers, filled with luminescent material, ensure optimum visibility even in the dark. The absence of a date indication and seconds scale further refines the guilloché dial’s elegant appearance, making these timepieces true pieces of jewellery.

Iconic Prints, Iconic Shades

In an exciting fusion of fashion and beauty, Guerlain has teamed up with the illustrious house of Pucci to launch a unique and ultra-limited make-up collection for Autumn 2024.

This autumn, Guerlain collaborates with the flamboyant Italian fashion house Pucci to present an extraordinary, ultra-limited make-up collection. This campaign, celebrating the boldest dimensions of colour, is the brainchild of Camille Miceli, Pucci’s Artistic Director, and Violette, Guerlain’s Creative Makeup Director. Together, they have crafted a capsule that exudes intense colour contrasts and innovative design. Pucci, renowned for its luxurious and avant-garde prints, lends its famous Marmo motif to the collection. Originally designed in 1968 and inspired by the Mediterranean Sea, the Marmo pattern is revitalised under Camille Miceli’s direction. The motif now features magnetic shades with psychedelic accents, adorning the packaging of the new make-up products, transforming them into collector’s items.

Rouge G Marmo Kiss

At the forefront of this collection is the Rouge G lipstick. Relaunched in 2024, the formula is now composed of an 89% skincare base, enriched with oil-extract of lily and sweet almond oil, offering smoothing and plumping properties. The lipstick is available in two new shades: the sophisticated plum Marmo Twist with a satiny finish and the striking matte red Le Rouge Vibrant with an ultra-velvety finish. The Rouge G case is beautifully adorned with the Marmo motif, combining gold and intense colours.

Ombres G Marmo Vibe

The Ombres G eyeshadow quad offers a striking palette of four matte shades. The collaboration between Camille and Violette resulted in the 045 Marmo Vibe palette, featuring the intensity of orange-red and violet contrasted with black and white for avant-garde looks. The golden case also showcases the iconic motif, making it a standout piece in the collection.

Terracotta Marmo Sun

The Terracotta Marmo Sun bronzing powder, known for its sun-kissed effect, now comes in a trio of shades for a luminous glow. It is encased in a round, amber-toned compact and a couture fabric pouch with the Marmo print. A golden pendant representing Pucci’s logo adds a touch of elegance.

Météorites Marmo Swirl

Guerlain’s Météorites powder pearls in 02 Cool pastel shades are presented in a new case featuring the capsule print. Accompanied by a Marmo Swirl brush with a golden handle, this set becomes a desirable fashion accessory, complete with a fabric pouch inspired by Pucci’s bucket bags.

Dawn of TIMELESS ELEGANCE

CELINE’s beauty line makes its debut under the careful eye of the brand’s Image Director, Hedi Slimane.

CELINE BEAUTÉ, the first cosmetics line from the prestigious maison CELINE, marks a significant expansion of the brand’s luxurious offerings. Created by Hedi Slimane in 2023, this line extends from the Haute Parfumerie collection, which debuted in 2019. The venture is a testament to the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and French elegance, epitomising the Image Director’s vision of femininity and allure.

The initial launch is inaugurated by a standout product: the Rouge Triomphe red lipstick, designed for precise and effortless application. This lipstick combines radiance, long wear and hydration. Its formula, composed of 89% natural origin ingredients, includes a delicate scent of rose and rice powder, evoking a nostalgic ‘70s vibe, an olfactory style also presented in CELINE’s Haute Parfumerie collection.

The packaging, inspired by late 18th-century French classicism and modernist Art Deco, features a faceted gold metal sheath and a refillable case, promoting elegance and sustainability. The brand’s emblem, the Triomphe, is embossed on the top of the case. Each piece is presented in a black velvet pouch and a white paper box embossed with a Grand Siècle moulding design, reinforcing the notion of luxurious sophistication.

The entire Le Rouge CELINE satin-finish lipstick collection is set to debut in January 2025, featuring 15 meticulously curated shades. Each hue reflects Hedi’s dedication to creating a product that is both timeless and modern. Every season will unveil new additions, continually enriching the brand’s beauty narrative. These future products will include lip balms, mascaras, eyeliners, blush cases and nail polishes, offering a complete beauty ritual.

FALL FOR THESE LOOKS

A new season brings new inspiration! Bushra Hakim studied the runway looks for Autumn and Winter 2024 (AW2024) to bring you the freshest updates. From bold burgundy pouts to natural brows, these must-try styles will surely make you fall in love with autumn.

As the fashion world ushers in a new season, the runways are ablaze with fresh looks that capture the essence of this time of the year. Designers have pushed the boundaries, blending the bold with the understated, the dramatic with the delicate. Whether you’re looking to make a striking statement or prefer a more natural approach, these trends have something for everyone. Dive into AW2024 with these stunning looks that promise to keep you in vogue.

The Daring Lip You Need

Nothing says autumn like a deep, rich lip colour, and the burgundy pout makes a powerful statement. Seen on runways from Paris to New York, this trend is all about embracing the dramatic. Whether you opt for a matte finish or a glossy sheen, a burgundy lip is perfect for any occasion. It’s a colour that exudes confidence and sophistication, making it an essential addition to your cosmetic bag. Pair it with minimal eye make-up to let your lips take centre stage, or go all out with a complementary smokey eye for a night out.

Make a Statement

Eyeliner is getting a bold upgrade this season. Thick, graphic lines are in, and the more creative, the better. From exaggerated cat eyes to unexpected shapes and colours, we’ve seen it all. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques and hues. Try a deep black liner for a classic look or go for something more daring like electric blue or emerald green. The key is precision and confidence, so invest in good quality eyeliner and practise your best steady-hand game.

Embrace Your Inner Cara Delevingne

Natural, full brows continue to reign supreme. The emphasis is on embracing your natural brow shape and enhancing it to look fuller and more defined. Put away the tweezers and focus on grooming with a clear or tinted brow gel. Fill in any sparse areas with a brow pencil or powder that matches your natural hair colour. The goal is to achieve a look that is polished yet effortless, giving you that coveted ‘I woke up like this’ vibe.

Add Some Sparkle

For those who love a touch of glamour, embellishments are the way to go. This trend involves adding jewels, sequins or other decorative elements to your make-up. Whether it’s a few strategically placed gems around your eyes or a full-on bedazzled creation, you have all the liberty to have fun and be creative. It’s perfect for festive occasions or anytime you want to add a little extra sparkle to your day. Just be sure to use skin-safe adhesives and take your time to ensure everything is placed just right.

Subtle Seduction

The smokey eye is a classic, but this time, it’s getting a softer, more romantic twist. Instead of the traditional black and grey, opt for softer shades like taupe, mauve and rose gold. The result is a look that is sultry yet subtle, perfect for both day and night. Blend your shadows well to avoid harsh lines, and finish with a few coats of mascara to make your eyes pop. This time it’s all about creating a look that is both elegant and approachable.

Monochrome Simplicity

If you’re looking for something easy to achieve and effortlessly chic, monochrome make-up is for you. This involves using the same shade on your eyes, lips and cheeks. Think soft pinks, warm bronzes or even reds. The key is to choose a colour that complements your skin tone and blend it seamlessly across your features. This style not only simplifies your makeup routine but also creates a harmonious and sophisticated look.

The Ultimate Natural Glow

Finally, the trend that ties all the others together is bare skin. The focus is on achieving a flawless, natural complexion. Think glowing, dewy skin that looks like you’ve just had a facial. To achieve this, start with a good skincare routine that includes cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising. Use a light foundation or tinted moisturiser to even out your skin tone and highlight your cheekbones, brow bones and the bridge of your nose with a subtle illuminator. The goal is to appear like you’re not wearing any makeup at all, just healthy, radiant skin.

COOLING EFFECT

With us all looking for a way to escape the hot weather, OHLALA’s editor visited Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain for a chilled experience at the Wellness Spa Villa.

Summer is that time of the year that we kind of dread in this part of the world. It means sweltering days, extreme humidity and no outdoor activities – September is well-known for being quite stuffy. We keep looking for things to do, and there is no better way to beat the heat than to embark on pampering spa sessions. Wellness Spa Villa at Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain has a great selection of packages perfectly tailored for this time of the year. I headed there to try the Soothing Summer Retreat, a therapeutic and rejuvenating 60-minute treatment with cold volcanic stones and an aloe vera wrap.

I have to say that I love the drive to that part of the island; there is no traffic, and the roads lead you to a peaceful, elegant and green destination. It is a fantastic way to leave behind the noise and buzzing of the city, which can be draining. A feature that I really like is the hotel lobby; the décor, seating display and greenery are so welcoming. The good thing is that even if you just go for a spa treatment, you must pass through this spectacular space.

I was lucky enough to be taken to the Wellness Spa Villa by Moutaz, the Front Office Manager; we had a nice chat on the way in the buggy. Anudeep, the Spa & Wellness Supervisor, was by the villa door, waiting for me with his wide smile. After drinking my welcome juice and filling out the consultation form, I was taken to one of the rooms to start my spa journey.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting the space yet, it is a villa transformed into a wellness retreat. It has an inviting pool in the centre surrounded by comfortable loungers and modern outdoor furniture in tones of sand and white, with green and gold accents, giving a great vibe to the ambience. The three treatment rooms are very private, each with its own full bathroom. My room had a bubbly bathtub decorated with pink rose petals, a cute touch.

The skilled therapists deliver advanced treatments using exclusive products by Dr Burgener Switzerland. It is the only spa on the island offering this ultra-technological brand that marries science and natural ingredients with mastery. Well-known for providing the latest in skincare, Dr Burgener Switzerland at Wellness Spa Villa is used in an array of procedures and signature treatments that pay homage to the Middle East and Bahrain’s rich heritage – a hallmark of Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain.

Yonne was my therapist for the day and started the session with the foot ritual, in which she scrubbed and bathed my feet in a copper bowl filled with warm water and rose petals. We then moved to the massage bed. She asked me to face down as the focus of this package is a comprehensive back massage done with cold volcanic stones. It was my first time undergoing this kind of therapy; they are usually hot, but when chilled, they have a different purpose. When bathed in ice cubes, the smooth, round rocks increase blood circulation, reduce inflamed swelling, help to reduce cellulite and act as a powerful decongestant for the body. Unlike ice treatments, cold stones don’t cause skin numbness, allowing the therapist to work deeply and for longer in the critical points. And I have to say that I do have a lot of very bad areas in my back. I asked for medium pressure and Yonne worked wonders on my knots – I felt my whole back more relaxed when she finished.

I then sat on the bed to start the second part of the package: the aloe vera and banana leaf wrap application. The treatment is the perfect remedy for sun-kissed and sensitive skin; it helps to calm the complexion and promote deep hydration. I have to confess that I went to the pool recently and didn’t apply sunscreen, which I am usually very particular about. But that day, I thought I was not staying long and it wouldn’t be a

problem – don’t ever assume that. The result was an unpleasant sunburn, so I was happy when I learned about the benefits of this package. The first contact of the gel with my skin was a bit of a shock as it was super cold, but after Yonne placed the banana leaf, it started to warm up and felt quite pleasant. Banana leaf has an anti-oxidant property, which is excellent for its anti-ageing effect and general skin issues. If you like cooling treatments, this would be perfect for you; it is also a fantastic way to find relief from the heat.

After covering my whole body with aloe vera gel and banana leaves, Yonne enveloped me with a blanket. While we waited for it to do its job, she gave me a relaxing head massage, pressuring some key points to help relieve stress and reduce tension. She then removed the leaves and told me that, for the best results, I should keep the gel on my skin for a few hours. If you want to experience this unique treatment, don’t miss out on the opportunity; the package is valid until September 30. It was time to say goodbye, but not before having a lovely warm tea and dried fruits to complete the pampering journey. And because I was already there, I passed by Ycone Paris, Chef’s Yazid Ichemrahen’s café, to take some marvellous sweets home. It was a day all to myself and ending it on a sweet note was one of the greatest ideas I have had in a long time.

AN EMPIRE IN BEAUTY AND WELLNESS

This month, we spoke to Yara Salman, the owner and CEO of a group of companies in the beauty, healthcare and well-being fields – Hospitalia by Yara, Farmacia by Yara and Animalia by Yara are some of them. Learn more about her businesses and insights about success.

YARA SALMAN
“My formula for success involves staying focused, maintaining a healthy work-life balance and embracing challenges as learning opportunities.”
– Yara Salman

OHLALA – Today, you have many ventures under your name. What was your first business, and what made you start it?

Yara Salman – My first business was YBL, one of the first beauty lounges in Amwaj Island. I started it when I was 17, while still in university. Despite my young age, I was always career-driven and passionate about beauty and wellness. I realised that my strengths lie in operations, problem-solving and building systems. Taking risks and embracing challenges have always been part of my entrepreneurial journey.

OHLALA – What are the businesses that you have today? How do you see them connected? Do you have a favourite?

Yara – Today, I own Hospitalia by Yara, a medical centre (with two branches, Budaiya and Riffa) and Reviv IV Therapy. Haute Health (also has two branches) is a healthy lifestyle café. Farmacia by Yara, which is Bahrain’s first robotic pharmacy, featured in Forbes Middle East. YBL with beauty salon services. Animalia by Yara and Animalia Cat Café. These businesses are interconnected through a shared focus on health, wellness and beauty. While it’s difficult to choose a favourite, Hospitalia by Yara holds a special place in my heart due to its significant impact on healthcare in Bahrain.

OHLALA – The beauty universe is, without a doubt, in the DNA of your company, but what made you expand to the other sectors?

Yara – Beauty is the core of the business. However, I realised after taking my Master’s from RCSI in healthcare management, that health and taking care of yourself from within will result in beauty, and that’s why we have recently gotten deep into biohacking your health and wellness using the latest and best technologies. That includes IV therapy, red light collagen beds and healthy food you put into your system. My Master’s degree led me to realise the importance of holistic health and wellness. This understanding inspired me to expand into sectors like biohacking and animal care.

OHLALA – What is the differential your businesses bring to Bahrain? Yara – Our businesses differentiate by consistently offering the latest products and services in the medical and beauty industries. We achieve this through ongoing training, research and partnerships. This commitment to innovation ensures that we remain at the forefront of our respective fields.

OHLALA – What was your main goal when you started? Have you gotten where you wanted to be already?

Yara – My initial goal was to impact others in their lifestyles and ways of living. While I’ve achieved significant success, I continue to set new goals and strive for continuous growth and innovation.

OHLALA – What has been your latest launch? Can you tell us more about it?

Yara – Our latest focus at Hospitalia has been biohacking and reversing ageing. We offer services like Reviv IV drips, superfood options at Haute Health, red light therapy and a hair restoration department. Additionally, we have recently introduced a unique hair brush line. At Animalia, we have launched an adoption programme as part of our commitment to animal welfare. As a passionate animal lover, I’ve always wanted to help stray cats and dogs find loving homes. Through this programme, we rescue animals, provide necessary medical care and prepare them for adoption. Dr Caroline, our Belgian veterinarian, conducts thorough health checks, cleans them up and vaccinates them before they are available for adoption.

OHLALA – How do you feel about accomplishing so much in your professional career at such a young age? Do you have a formula to share with us?

Yara – I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and accomplishments I’ve achieved at a young age. My formula for success involves staying focused, maintaining a healthy work-life balance and embracing challenges as learning opportunities. Remember, setbacks are temporary and perseverance is key. Additionally, it’s important to learn to say “no” and set boundaries. In my early years, I struggled with this, but I’ve learned that it’s essential to prioritise your needs and avoid taking on too much. By saying “no” to opportunities that don’t align with your goals, you can focus on what truly matters and avoid future negative consequences.

OHLALA – What do you like most about Bahrain? Do you think this is an entrepreneur-friendly country?

Yara – I love the quality of life and supportive environment that Bahrain offers. The country’s commitment to women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship has been instrumental in my success. I have received numerous awards and recognition for my achievements, and I am proud to be a young female entrepreneur in the Kingdom. Bahrain is a great place for aspiring entrepreneurs to thrive.

A Celebration of HISTORICAL OPULENCE

J.J. Martin’s La DoubleJ honours the Renaissance period with a modern twist in its Autumn and Winter 2024 collection.

La DoubleJ celebrates Italian craftsmanship with rich textures, refined silhouettes and intricate embroideries by paying homage to the Renaissance era. Inspired by ancient symbolism and sacred geometry, this collection marks a shift for the Milan-based brand towards a more subtle and sophisticated colour scheme. The palette features dusty rose, deep Bordeaux and dreamy creams, offering hyper-feminine hues that seamlessly integrate into any wardrobe, providing limitless opportunities to personalise and elevate everyday wear.

The collection features designs influenced by iconic emblems and historical details of a bygone era. The Gryphos print, reflecting the Grotesque influence, symbolises power and prestige with its legendary half-fish, half-horse hybrid motif. The romantic Rosette pattern enhances sensuality, inspired by the tiny roses embroidered on Renaissance garments. Hand-placed prints, known as placée, incorporate symbols of the heavens and Earth, celebrating the human as a cosmic being. These tactile textures and elaborate flourishes honour the abundance and self-expression of the era’s fashion.

This season embraces relaxed refinement, introducing stunning evening silhouettes like the floor-skimming Diva Dress and the figure-hugging Nymph Dress, offering a modern twist on autumn occasion wear. Day-to-night looks include the vampy Vaudeville, romantic Cherubs Knit Dress, tailored Kelly Jacket and pleated Kelly Skirt. The collection also introduces more solid and two-tone pieces, such as the Lacey Visconti Dress and the Everywhere Shirt, expanding the brand’s fleet of improved, seasonless staples. Complementing the ready-to-wear pieces, the accessories are equally opulent. Statement jewels like the regal Corsini Earrings and soft accents like the hand-embroidered Caterina Belt and Ella Scarf with pearls, elevate casual outfits. High-vibe hair accessories, including the soft velvet Love Knot and intricately embroidered jacquard Medici Headband, serve as the crowning glories of this luxurious collection.

THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER

The days between July and August, are when hot and stuffy weather is at its peak. With September bringing a new season, we wave goodbye to summer fashion and welcome the Autumn and Winter 2024/2025 (AW2024/2025) trends.

In the Middle East, the story is slightly different, and the weather outside doesn’t really match the new season wardrobe (our summers here are definitely longer than anywhere else, and September is the most humid month of the year, so the dog days will take a while to retreat). However, the fashion trends from the AW 2024/2025 collections are hitting the stores’ racks, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Revamping our closets and turning them into winter mode is our mission for the next few months.

We’ve picked some of the best bets for the cold season that go beyond all the black and transparency spotted in many shows. Some of them are popular ones and entirely expected, such as leopard prints and grey shades, but we also noticed some styling twists that will ginger up your outfits, like turning socks into the eye-catching element of your look or flaunting a cool head warmer.

We hope our picks inspire your new season wardrobe and help you flaunt your best self in the sweater weather season – stylish cold months; here we go!

Animal print is winter made. This year, there is one sure stand out: leopard. The pattern usually mixes different tones of brown, from very dark to lighter shades, in an instantly identifiable design. Pair the motif with white or bright hues of blue and red for a striking contrast and

Ladylike Suiting

Tailoring is another winter style that we love. But stay away from the boring black suit, white shirt combo and invest in a dazzling top, coloured suit or embroidered numbers to add a feminine touch to these items borrowed from men’s dress code. You can also pair your favourite blazer with a mini or flowy skirt to create a girly silhouette.

Round And Round We Go

Usually seen as a summer print, polka dots can easily transition into the cooler months’ wardrobe. The classic black and white with small circles is an elegant pick and can take you from office wear to a date night. Dresses and tops are the best way to showcase the trend and embrace this timeless motif.

RABANNE

The Grass Is Greener

As a colour easily seen in nature (a common inspiration for designers worldwide), green has a safe spot in fashion. During winter, its darker tones are the preferred shades and military or olive hues are quite big this year, covering coats, dresses and accessories. Tom Ford and Ferragamo are betting on a complete tone-ontone look, fully embracing the trend.

Tie A Ribbon

Talking about feminine touches, we move on to a detail that can be subtle or steal the spotlight. Big, small, thick or thin, bows are the ultimate add-on that transform monotonous clothing into girly girl outfits with a cute twist. We absolutely love Prada’s take on this, adding perfectly knotted bows to their dresses.

Ballerina shoes continue to be the footwear of the moment in the autumn and winter collections. They are the perfect complement for a girly look and if you like comfort, that’s a fantastic option. Apart from evening wear, they can easily match any outfit. Numbers in baby pink and black are our favourite picks.

Exotic Legs

The styling trend here is to make your socks or tights the centre of your look. Coloured items are a voguish way to wear them, but there are other approaches, like wearing them pulled up to your knees, as suggested by Brunello Cucinelli. Inspired by Zimmermann, we will be hitting the stores and looking for animal print pantyhose – they look fab with mini dresses.

Grey Area

This colour continues to be the best choice over black. From pale shades to charcoal, grey gives a contemporary flair to your winter outfits. Kenzo and Burberry propose to wear it with brown and we find it an elegant and innovative suggestion. As seen in Max Mara, a total grey look is also a creative approach, mainly when working the layers in different tones.

Spread Your Arms

Gloves have a prime purpose: to protect hands from potential injury, such as freezing in cold weather. As this reason does not apply to us in this part of the world, we wear them just to look fabulous! Super long ones can replace long sleeves for a fashionable statement, and we are very tempted to embrace this trend – will you?

Fluffy Accessories

Feathery shoes and handbags are more in vogue than ever and not only reserved for evening wear anymore. They can add graceful panache to your everyday looks, like an eye-catching element to elevate your white tee and blue jeans. Most brands already opt for faux versions, but make sure of the origins when purchasing your item.

Head Warmers

The OHLALA team is obsessed with winter hats, and we can’t wait for the new season to dust them off and adorn our heads. For the cold season this year, the popular bucket hats are covered in warm textiles to suit the weather, while the usual knitted beanies have a different shape or are embellished with brooches for some poise, as proposed by Coach

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Beat the heat and head to Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort on one of the highest mountains in Oman. Fernanda Langhammer and her family spent two nights in this magical place for a memorable stay.

If you ask anyone who lives in the Middle East, which is the country in the region that is a must-visit? The answer is unanimous: Oman. The sultanate has a large area with a lot to offer, from rich nature and pristine beaches to mountain destinations with incredible canyons and wadis. I headed there to visit the acclaimed Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, located at 2,000m above sea level, at the tip-top of Jebel Akhdar Mountain, which is part of the Al Hajar Mountain Range – with one of the most amazing views I have ever seen in my life. My trip occurred during high summer, but at Al Jabal, the temperature is always very pleasant (it can get quite chilly during winter) and the weather was absolutely perfect.

But before we got there, a two-hour journey from Muscat International Airport onboard Anantara’s comfortable four-by-four vehicle was required. The drive was pleasant and from the car’s window, I could see the landscape changing. The road gets quite steep, but I felt very safe as behind the wheel was a very experienced driver who had done this route many times.

We arrived quite late at the resort and after a smooth check in done by smiley Rajib, we went straight to dinner at Al Maisan restaurant. It was Asian Buffet Night and the food selection was more than we could have asked for, even with our big appetites. Our party of four had a few items that were must-tries: the wakame salad, made with edible seaweed, and the glass noodle salad, which was delicious and refreshing with a nice crunch. We are big fans of Japanese food and the sashimi and sushi, especially the unagi nigiri, were beautifully prepared.

WELCOME HOME

That was the sign on the bathroom mirror, and we felt exactly like that after we entered the massive two-bedroom villa with garden views. By the main door, a wooden plaque with my surname painted in pink signalled our refuge for two days. The first thing I saw when I stepped inside the villa was the incredible private pool across the living and dining area. It was beautifully illuminated, and the big dark ceramic tiles in green and blue tones transformed the place into a whimsical paradise. The first thing the kids did was to get changed and jump in the pool – yes, nighttime swim. The villa is composed of a master suite on the right side with two closets, a washroom with a walk-in shower and a bathtub, two sinks and a makeup mirror. On the left side, a twin bedroom with its own bathroom with two sinks and a huge shower – it was perfect for our family with plenty of space. Not only were the rooms spacious, but the common area, where we spent most of the time, had plenty of seats and a dining table for six people. The décor is stunning, with ceramic floors in the living areas and wet spaces and dark wood in the bedrooms. Wooden panels and Arabic elements throughout the villa with indirect lighting give a luxurious yet cosy touch.

That night of sleep was splendid; the bed linen was very soft and they had a pillow menu with many options. I requested a memory foam pillow, which came to our villa in no time before my eyes shut.

THE NEXT DAY

Waking up in a place like Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar makes you feel instantly grateful and full of joy. On our way to breakfast at Al Maisan (with all sorts of breakfast staples such as fruits, yoghurts, cereal, bread and live egg preparations, but also Indian and Asian stations with delicacies from these regions), we could appreciate the hotel’s beautiful design, green garden terraces and we finally had a peek at the breathtaking view. We walked to Diana’s Point, which is believed to be the place that Princess Diana visited in the company of the then Prince Charles, in 1986. The Royal couple would have walked the flat slabs of rock to the edge of the canyon to appreciate the splendid view, and this is where the resort now stands. Next to it, an immense infinity-edge pool faces the rock formation, giving you a sense of plenitude and the feeling of being on top of the world.

The heart of the resort is the grand central courtyard, which evokes the Moorish architecture of Alhambra, Spain, with a fire pit in the centre for evenings of Bedouin storytelling. The plentiful fruit trees, flowers and a chef’s garden create the perfect environment for the numerous butterflies and birds. Walking through the many pathways was one of my favourite things to do during our stay.

BEYOND THE STAY

If you are one of those people who can’t stay still and you need to keep yourself busy, even when you could just spend the day cherishing spectacular views, there are several daily activities. You find bicycles that you can grab and ride or electric scooters for rent, archery, rock climbing and various different hikes.

We went on the Three Village Tour, which included a town with locals and two abandoned villages. One is Wadi Bani Habib and our guide, Hussain, was the absolute best. He is from the region and knows the place very well, so he took us on unexplored paths by the irrigation system where we had perfect views of the construction and passed by fruit trees, such as pomegranate and local specimens. It was an unforgettable experience.

Another must-do activity is to embark on a pampering session at Anantara Spa. I went for the Anantara Signature Massage, which combines Eastern and Western techniques to stimulate circulation and deeply relax the muscles. Reflexology is also used to clear blockages of energy and promote overall well-being. Benny, my therapist, asked which areas I would like her to focus on and I picked my upper back and legs. She also gave me the option of using coconut or lavender oil, and I picked the latter because of its relaxing properties. It was an amazing massage, such that the rest of the family also went for it. We were all relaxed enjoying our private pool and lovely weather.

I also decided to use the gym to return to my exercise routine; apart from all the usual gym equipment, there is a climbing wall where my son had loads of fun. I also found a games room and a kids’ club in the gym building complex.

NOURISHING THE BODY

There are six restaurants and lounges at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar and besides Al Maisan, we also dined at Bella Vista and Al Qalaa.

Bella Vista is an Italian eatery with relaxed décor, inside seats and a terrace leading to Diana’s Point. The menu brings all the comforting Italian staples, vegan options and much more. We chose a selection of dishes; however, the star plate was the grilled octopus with Romanesco sauce and baby potatoes with a smoked paprika touch. The octopus was cooked to perfection and the smoky flavour made us fight for the last piece. We also ordered the homemade potato gnocchi (I am a huge gnocchi enthusiast) in tomato sauce with parmesan shavings and it was as comforting as I expected. The Mediterranean seabass fillet, with tomato and caper sauce on top of baby potatoes was the other item, the seabass was fresh with crunchy skin and soft meat. The meal was very light and perfect for our lunch break.

Al Qalaa has a fine-dining vibe. The signature restaurant is housed in a free-standing tower that takes inspiration from the iconic architecture of Khasab Castle in Musandam, northern Oman. The interior is grand; the geometric floor in black and gold was paired beautifully with the red chairs. Many Arabic elements decorate the space, indicating the cuisine we would find on the menu. Megin, the restaurant’s supervisor, helped us and we had a mix of signature dishes, such as The Black Hummus with local black garlic and baklava chips, and Shuwa Lamb Shank, marinated in Omani spices and slow-cooked for 12 hours. The black garlic added a hint of sweetness to the hummus and was delicious. The lamb was so soft, falling from the bone and melting in the mouth with delectable flavours. We also had the seafood platter, eggplant puree and the halloumi and

beetroot salad. From the sweet options, we went for Um Ali (a family favourite) and Kunafa. They were both spectacular, and the Um Ali was probably the best I have ever had. I was so glad when Chef Sayed came to greet us so we could personally thank him for the fantastic meal served.

SO LONG!

Our two days at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort passed in the blink on an eye, but we enjoyed every second of it. It was a fantastic experience, and I must say that the views of the canyon will stay with me forever. If you are looking for a summer escape, there is no better place to go – fabulous weather, delicious food and a deep sense of serenity. We are already planning another visit soon.

A SYMPHONY OF FLAVOURS

An exhilarating evening of exotic cuisines and stunning views was on the cards for Apple Sharma as she embarked on a culinary adventure at SUSHISAMBA.

If hearing the name SUSHISAMBA brings to mind Japanese delicacies and lively Brazilian dance, you’re spot on! True to its name, this renowned international brand offers a unique take on dining excellence, celebrating Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisines. Perched atop the 25th floor of Conrad Bahrain Financial Harbour, SUSHISAMBA has been the talk of the town since its opening late last year. Eager to see if it lived up to its name, I recently had the chance to experience it for myself.

As the elevator doors opened at the rooftop, the signature neon orange SUSHISAMBA BAHRAIN sign welcomed us to this exotic land of tricultural cuisine. Upon entering, we were immediately enveloped in a soulful and energetic atmosphere. The Restaurant Manager, Mina Mishelle, greeted us with genuine warmth and gave us a quick tour.

The first thing we noticed was the breathtaking views of the Manama seafront and Bahrain Bay, especially the spectacular sunset from the outdoor poolside area, which was truly Instagram-worthy and not to be missed! Another unmissable poolside feature is the prominent flame orange-coloured tree. Standing tall and visible from the highway below, it’s like a beacon beckoning diners to the lively world of SUSHISAMBA.

The interior was equally impressive, with Amazonian-inspired décor. Lush foliage and a striking green and terracotta colour scheme set the stage for our evening, while lively South American music perfectly balanced the ambience without overpowering it. The sophisticated fine-dining setting featured an impressive open kitchen, a dynamic bar, dim lighting and intimate table arrangements offering more splendid city views. I loved the unique vibe – it certainly ticked all my boxes for a great night out!

As we took our seats at a cosy corner table next to the large, floor-to-ceiling windows, the amiable Executive Chef, Sergio Medina, briefed us on the popular menu items and gave his recommendations, including, to my delight, some vegetarian options. His passion for the restaurant’s concept was infectious and his creations showcased the culinary innovation that defines SUSHISAMBA.

Our gastronomic journey began with Sambatini, a monthly cocktail crafted in-house, of which we tried three mocktail varieties. Our lovely waiter, Sagar, suggested starting with Mango Batida, a fruity tropical blend of pineapple, mango, kiwi and mint. Next came Botanical Garden, a light, citrusy concoction, infused with lemon, mint and cucumber. The final preparation, inspired by Bahrain and aptly named Between the Two Seas, combined lychee, pineapple and homemade soda water. All three were a refreshing prelude to the evening’s feast.

We began our meal with a selection of Aperitivos (starters). The classic edamame, sprinkled with sea salt and lime, offered a perfect introduction to the menu’s Japanese elements. The Samba Chips, an assortment of vegetable crisps presented with a tangy Peruvian aji amarillo pepper sauce, were vibrant and crunchy – a wonderful contrast of texture and taste.

With the Aperitivos setting a high bar for the evening, we delved into the Small Plates with great anticipation. The Wagyu Gyoza, golden dumplings served over a bed of kabocha squash purée, were a delight. The crispy exterior cocooned a rich Wagyu filling, with the velvety purée adding a slightly sweet balance, while the sweet soy sauce further enriched the savoury taste.

Opting for the vegetable version of the Crispy Taquitos, we found these little boat-shaped tacos to be deliciously crunchy, with a mix of avocado, radish, red onion, peppers and pickled shimeji mushrooms. I absolutely loved this dish! Hands down, one of my favourites; it had a perfect balance of freshness and just the right amount of tanginess – a soulful marriage of textures and flavours. Moving on to the Raw section of the menu, the Salmon Seviche was vibrant, refreshing and went down a treat. Diced salmon cubes were beautifully paired with tamarind, sesame, seaweed, macadamia and sweet potato. This visually striking dish was a standout, with the macadamia nuts adding crunch and the tamarind providing a moreish, sweet and sour tang.

The Chicken Anticuchos, a highlight from the Robata section, harmoniously blended Japanese and Peruvian flavours. The skewered meat, cooked to perfection on a traditional Japanese charcoal grill, was juicy and tender with a lovely barbecue taste served over crunchy, charred Peruvian corn. It was accompanied by a spicy aji amarillo sauce that offered just the right amount of heat.

Next up was another stunning dish from the Large Plates section – Black Cod with miso, pickled ginger and shichimi (a Japanese spice mixture), accompanied by aji rice. Executed with great finesse, the tender, flaky fish with a delicious, caramelised glaze was simply presented but packed an impressive flavour profile. The sweet and salty notes, with a hint of chilli heat, were perfectly complemented by the bright yellow, tangy, lemony aji rice. Last but not least, we tried the Samba Veggie from the Chef’s Inspiration part of the menu. This beautifully presented platter, with three pieces of nigiri and a row of veggie maki, was another favourite. The vibrant nigiri, with its subtle flavours, tasted as elegant as it looked, and the maki – crunchy vegetables encased in sticky sushi rice – provided a delightful morsel.

Coming full circle, we ended our evening on a Japanese note by indulging in a dessert medley of Assorted Mochi. The pastel-coloured, gelatinous balls were filled with creamy mango, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, served alongside white chocolate ganache and buttery biscuits – a fitting end to an exquisite feast.

SUSHISAMBA, with its celebration of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisines, delivered on its promise of exceptional food, inventive drinks and impeccable service. Tantalising all the senses, it offers a sophisticated yet lively dining experience. Whether you’re drawn by the culinary creativity or the spectacular views, SUSHISAMBA provides a memorable journey through diverse flavours and cultures, satisfying both the stomach and the soul.

AN ALL-ELECTRIC LUXURIOUS JOURNEY

OHLALA HAD A FANTASTIC DAY ONBOARD THE ALL-NEW AUDI Q8 SPORTBACK E-TRON, A FULLY ELECTRIC SUV FOR A STYLISH YET POWERFUL DRIVE.

OHLALA recently received an invitation from Audi Centre Bahrain to test drive the brand's newest creation, the new Q8 Sportback e-tron. As connoisseurs of first-class motor vehicles, we were eager to accept and soon found ourselves standing in front of this world-renowned car manufacturer's latest automotive achievement.

SPORTY EXTERIOR

At first glance, it was clear the stylish new Q8 Sportback e-tron is an allelectric model.

The new front and rear designs with the expressive Singleframe mask, the inverted grille and a blade above the redesigned rear diffusers showcase Audi's ever-advancing electric design language while delivering the brand's sought-after SUV style. We took extra time appreciating the way the front grille blends seamlessly into the face of the vehicle.

Fortunate enough to be test-driving the premium S-line model, we had the opportunity to take in the special body components exclusive to this sporty exterior package. These elements include a widened body, a body-coloured Singleframe, S-line bumpers, widened Digital Matrix LED headlights, flow-optimised wheel arch panels and exclusive 21-inch fivespoke, light-alloy, Graphite Grey, diamond-turned wheels.

Adding further striking accents are a host of carbon-fibre details, aluminiumlook exterior mirror housings and an edition-specific door LED projection that spells out 'e-tron edition' onto the street at night. Tinted rear, door and

side windows protect occupants from UV radiation and ensure privacy. From side on, the most prominent features were the sill area with the battery package riding low between the axles, the before mentioned beautifully designed rims sporting red brake callipers with the S logo, and the cameras replacing the side view mirrors. Screens inside the vehicle provide the driver with the desired views.

Furthermore, the new Q8 e-tron is the first model to carry the freshly designed Audi rings in a two-dimensional look, ensuring no one can mistake the model being driven.

For a full-sized four-door SUV, we felt the designers at Audi have managed to achieve a distinctly sleek and aerodynamic shape, one that looks great on the roads and in the garage.

LUXURIOUS INTERIOR

After slipping into the ultra-comfortable front seating with four-way lumbar support, we took our time taking in the sheer ambience created by the master crafters at Audi.

For us, there was no doubt that the new Q8 Sportback e-tron is a deluxe model that exudes a sense of luxury, comfort and style.

The spacious nature of the interior was amplified by the abundance of natural light provided by the electronic two-part panoramic sunroof. At night, we loved how the optional ambient lighting package, with its white LED light, stages the interior to great effect, gently illuminating surfaces such as the doors and the instrument panel, making them appear to float.

"Furthermore, the new Q8 e-tron is the first model to carry the freshly designed Audi rings in a two-dimensional look, ensuring no one can mistake the model being driven."

Ensuring all passengers remain cool during the scorching summer months, Audi has included a three-stage ventilation system that makes for very comfortable seating. An optional four-zone climate control further adds to the pleasant atmosphere.

Throughout the day, wherever our eyes landed, they were greeted by highend materials, decorative inserts, quality trimmings and impressive finishes. One of our favourite internal features was the leather-wrapped, multifunction, double-spoke steering wheel, complete with shift paddles. Thanks to its outstanding design quality, we can honestly say it is amongst the very finest we have laid our hands on.

Ensuring this new Q8 remains family-friendly, Audi has provided plenty of head, shoulder, knee and foot room for up to five travellers. An electrically opening and closing luggage compartment with 528 litres of storage space adds to everyday convenience, as does the further 62 litres in the frunk (front trunk).

INTUITIVE TECHNOLOGY & INFOTAINMENT

Audi has always been at the leading edge when it comes to in-car tech, a fact that is very apparent in the new Q8 Sportback e-tron.

The brand's latest masterpiece is equipped with a fully digital display and operating concept as standard, boasting two MMI touch response displays that are operated similarly to modern smartphones. The upper display features a 10.1-inch screen (diagonal), and the lower, an 8.6-inch screen (diagonal). They replace almost all switches and controls typically seen in cars and offer exceptionally fast and safe operation. We also soon discovered that this impressive system provides haptic and acoustic feedback when requested.

We loved how the virtual exterior mirrors can extend the digital operating window even further. Incorporated into the hexagonal end of their flat supports is a small camera whose digitally processed images are displayed on OLED displays in the transition between the instrument panel and door. Another must-mention touch of class included in this already brilliant setup was the clear and practical Head-Up Display (HUD) that projects vital data into the driver's line of site, thereby removing the need to take eyes off the road.

We discovered that in addition to touch operation, many functions can be activated using natural voice control.

Another must-mention feature is the Audi virtual cockpit with full HD resolution that displays specific graphics of key parameters for electric driving, from charging power to range. This keeps the driver fully updated on the vehicle's status at all times.

As far as the infotainment system itself is concerned, the new Audi Q8 e-tron offers an extensive range of features. These include MMI Navigation Plus, LTE Advanced transmission, wi-fi hotspot and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, amongst many others.

EXCEPTIONAL POWER, PERFORMANCE & BATTERY

Since its conception, Audi has been delivering vehicles that are an absolute pleasure to drive. The new Q8 Sportback e-tron is no exception, as it pushes the brand's remarkable on-road capabilities further forward. This exceptional vehicle uses two motors powered by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 114kWh. Featuring the standard Quattro drive, the setup delivers an output of 408hp, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in an impressive 5.4 seconds, and an electronically capped top speed of 200km/h. As we made our way through the streets, we appreciated the smooth nature of the ride, as well as how responsive the car was. We remarked on both the outstanding suspension system as well as the impressive capabilities of the brakes.

One of the standout features was the uniquely designed gear selector that felt ergonomic in hand and allowed for effortless switching of gears. Although we did not travel far enough to deplete the Q8's battery life, we discovered that it has a superb range of up to 600km on a full charge. Thanks to its maximum charging power of 117kW, the new Q8 Sportback e-tron can charge from 10-80% in around half an hour, while 10 minutes at an HPC charging station will add 123km of range.

DRIVER ASSISTANCE & SAFETY SYSTEMS

It came as no surprise to us that Audi has included a full suite of driver assistance and safety features that greatly contribute towards the wellbeing of all passengers.

Up to five radar sensors, five cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors register everything happening in the vehicle's immediate environment, thereby defusing any potentially dangerous situations.

The new assistance system in the Q8 e-tron includes Intelligent Park Assist and Remote Park Assist, ensuring parking in tight spaces is a painless endeavour.

OUR VERDICT

In the new Q8 Sportback e-tron, Audi has yet again managed to push the boundaries of what it means to produce a high-end, fully electric vehicle that not only performs as well as its petrol-powered counterparts but does so in absolute style.

“I

HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR”

Why does a wardrobe full of clothes often leave us feeling like we have nothing worth wearing?

It’s a scenario familiar to many women, standing in front of a closet bursting with clothing yet feeling like there’s absolutely nothing to wear. This paradox isn’t about a lack of options but rather a reflection of deeper, more complex emotions and social dynamics.

For many of us, clothes are more than just fabric; they’re an extension of our identity, mood and aspirations. Our wardrobes often hold the promise of who we want to be, reflecting different versions of ourselves: one dress might represent the carefree woman we dream of being, while another is the professional we aim to embody. Yet, when it comes time to choose, the disconnection between how we feel in the moment and the idealised versions of ourselves can make even the most packed wardrobe seem empty. Then there’s decision fatigue – a phenomenon where the more choices we have, the harder it becomes to choose. This is why figures like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg famously wore/wear the same outfit every day, eliminating one (often time-consuming) decision from their daily routine. While most of us aren’t ready to commit to a uniform, the sheer volume of options can sometimes feel more like a burden than a blessing, adding unnecessary stress to our mornings.

Ultimately, the issue isn’t the number of clothes we own but rather the relationship we have with them and ourselves. It’s a gentle reminder to reassess our choices, not just in fashion but in self-perception and the pressures we allow to influence us.
