I feel that I can’t avoid talking about the theme of the month: love. What I appreciate most about this feeling is that it is just everywhere, from small gestures to significant romantic actions. You can fondly like some people very much but also feel it for certain things. At this exact moment, I am absolutely in love with the new trends for Spring and Summer 2025 (SS2025). I am a huge fashion enthusiast (those who know me are very well aware of that), and talking about styles for the new season is something that I adore. I hope you enjoy our curated selection to inspire your hot season wardrobe.

I embarked on a delightful salt ritual at ESPA Life at Waldorf Astoria Doha Lusail with warm slabs of pink Himalayan salt replacing the usual black rocks (commonly used in hot stone massages) for an energising therapy – a must-try! Still on the well-being side of life, we explored a fitness day at the Exclusive Sports Club at Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha.

We selected some of the most romantic spots in the world and bought a glimpse into them for you. However, if you want to spend precious time with your loved ones without leaving Qatar, we had a staycation at Rixos Premium Qetaifan Island North for a fun-filled weekend. Revisiting an Icon

Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami celebrate two decades of their iconic partnership with the launch of a re-edition collection, marking the collaboration’s 20th anniversary. This new capsule, which reimagines and updates the original pieces, includes over 200 creations, blending the brand’s craftsmanship with Murakami’s colourful and imaginative aesthetic. Locked in Love

The iconic Lock collection from Tiffany & Co. continues to expand with new designs. Inspired by an 1883 gold padlock brooch that symbolised protection, a central theme since Tiffany’s founding in 1837, the collection now includes narrow and small-scale iterations of the Lock bracelet, pendant, earrings and ring. These new creations are crafted in 18-carat rose gold and adorned with rare pink sapphires, one of the most sought-after gemstones in the sapphire family. Prized for their striking beauty and symbolic ties to love and power, the pink sapphires add a layer of refinement to the already elegant pieces. The collection reflects Tiffany’s meticulous attention to craftsmanship and quality, with each jewel demonstrating a commitment to excellence in design and technique.

The Ocean’s Future

Prada collaborates for the third time with National Geographic CreativeWorks, to continue its exploration of the groundbreaking Prada Re-Nylon initiative. This series of four documentary films highlights the origins and impact of the collection, featuring actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Sadie Sink, SEA BEYOND ambassadors Valentina Gottlieb and Giovanni Chimienti, and local National Geographic experts. Prada ReNylon, regenerated from plastic waste recovered from oceans and landfills, reflects Prada Group’s commitment to sustainable fashion and reducing reliance on new resources. Preppy Redesigned

Weekend Max Mara and Sebago have teamed up for a three-year co-branded collaboration, debuting with a Spring and Summer 2025 capsule with a refreshed take on Sebago’s iconic Dan penny loafer. This classic design, originally popularised by 1950s Ivy Leaguers, remains a hallmark of the classic American preppy aesthetic. Crafted from smooth brushed leather, the loafers feature handsewn details, a durable waterproof sole with moulded rubber heels, and an unlined beefroll upper for effortless style. With this collaboration, the Dan loafer gets a modern update with micro studs, a detachable tassel for versatility and Weekend Max Mara butterfly studs subtly adorning the sides. Available in black, burgundy and brown, they are rebellious and perfect for any season.

Adding Character

Kenzo and Japanese graphic artist Verdy worked on a colourful collection, the Kenzo Verdy Market, packed with playfulness. First shown during the Spring and Summer 2025 runway show, the collaboration highlighted the artist’s bold pop graphic style reimagining Kenzo’s house codes through three charming characters: Winky the Tiger, Deezy the Flower, and Bimpy the Elephant. The collection features a mix of ready-to-wear pieces and lifestyle products, including cosy blankets, plush backpacks, decorative carpets and snow globes. Special pop-up activations were held in iconic locations like Dubai Mall, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann and Hankyu Osaka, adding to the buzz. To celebrate, Kenzo created a video game-inspired campaign, where Verdy’s characters embarked on an adventure with a nostalgic 2000s' aesthetic and an exclusive soundtrack by Japanese rapper Young Coco.

ECHOES OF THE WILD

Cartier’s New High Jewellery collection, Nature Sauvage, presents an ode to precious animals and their majestic presence.

Cartier plays with our imagination with Nature Sauvage. The creations have a whimsical touch, a joyful game of hide-and-seek where creatures appear where you least expect them. The maison also blurs boundaries when creating provoking concepts. From the pendant of a necklace, a turtle escapes to become a brooch; a snake is split in two to become a necklace while its scales are transformed into an urban chessboard, and the silhouette of a beetle emerges from a necklace with an abstract motif, reminiscent of a skyscraper. A universe of possibilities reflected in unique pieces that carry more than style but a sense of originality and mystery.

“A new perspective on the Cartier animals to surprise, amaze and bring modernity by way of unexpected encounters. Expressive jewellery which showcases the attitudes and personality of an animal, its vitality. Like an actor, it plays with graphics, with volume and optical illusions, blending into an imaginary landscape. This is the spirit of Nature Sauvage,” said Jacqueline Karachi, Director of High Jewellery Creation.

TATSU

The Chinese dragon is a symbol of positive virtues. The mythical creature is wellknown for its fiery powers, represented in a pendant adorned with two rubies from Mozambique. It has a piercing gaze and a slender jaw, around its neck, the stylised scales playfully depict the dragon’s outline. The contrast of red and black, characteristic of Asian arts and indistinguishable from the maison’s colour palette, infuses energy and vigour into the piece.

AMPHISTA

Two becomes one. Sinuous and symmetrical, two snakes around the neck, side by side, compose this bold piece. With diamond scales set with emeralds and heads crowned with kite diamonds, they embrace the neck with glamour. Between them are nine octagonal emeralds from Colombia totalling 14.72 carats. A hybrid composition in which the organic blends with the urban through an interplay of perfectly geometric, highly vertical motifs.

ALAE

The complexity of this necklace evokes the silhouette of a skyscraper. However, looking closely at the clasp, you notice a beetle on it. The sparkling architecture, with its Art Deco take on geometry and symmetry, emerges from the beating wings of this majestic insect, drawing a slender, graphic shape in space with an array of details. Featuring onyx and diamonds, Cartier has turned this emblematic stylistic duo into a lovely surprise.

MOCHELYS

This necklace showcases an element that is completely hidden yet obvious. A turtle is concealed within an abstract necklace, featuring an imposing 71.90-carat rubellite. At first, the eye cannot grasp the outline, but once you see the turtle, you can’t unsee it. You have to look closely to notice the roundness and volume of its shell and the detail of its scales. The game of camouflage is revealed alongside its versatility: the animal appears in its entirety, head and legs included, when detached to become a brooch.

KOAGA

The zebra is an animal dear to Cartier. Koaga’s interpretation of it brings the stripes, profile, ears and muzzle enhanced by precise, stylised lines for an intricate design that moves with a rhythm and powerful vigour. It holds an emerald-cut diamond and a 6.25-carat, pear-shaped rubellite in its mouth. The coat is reflected in a graphic play of alternating onyx stripes with lines paved with brilliant- and emerald-cut diamonds, allowing openwork to reveal the skin.

PANTHÈRE JAILLISSANTE

A docile and graceful panther tamed for an eye-catching jewellery piece with magnetic elegance. The panther acts as a fierce guardian of an 8.63-carat Zambian emerald. A fully articulated ring-bracelet that adds a wild energy to your hand movements. A true feat of craftsmanship, it reinforces the power of an animal whose anatomy is expressed by expert sculpting. With its slender limbs, diamond coat flecked with sapphires and emerald eyes, Cartier’s art lies in its ability to give life to this daring and original piece of hand jewellery.

Boucheron’s Creative Director Claire Choisne breathes life into Frédéric Boucheron’s wild vision with Untamed Nature, a 28-piece collection celebrating the raw beauty of flora and fauna.

Boucheron’s 2025 Histoire de Style high jewellery collection, titled Untamed Nature, is a masterful homage to Frédéric Boucheron’s vision of the natural world – wild, raw and unconstrained. Claire Choisne, the maison’s Creative Director, reinterprets this legacy, crafting 28 avant-garde creations that seamlessly merge nature and the human form. These transformable pieces celebrate Frédéric’s work and how jewellery interacts with the body. From ivy vines to thistles, butterflies to dragonflies, the brand’s founder’s fascination with untamed flora and fauna shaped his creative ethos. Unlike his contemporaries, who often favoured stately blooms and regal beasts, he sought inspiration from nature’s overlooked yet resilient elements – wild roses, clovers and even wilting leaves. His devotion to detail, supported by a library of over 600 botanical and scientific studies, lives on in the maison’s archives, which continue to inspire today.

Nature’s botanical wonders have always been central to the maison’s creations. Take Vaccinium Microcarpum, the resilient lingonberry. Known for thriving in extreme conditions, a cascading brooch reflects this hardy spirit. Detachable stems allow versatile wear, from brooch to necklace, while the intricate openwork and snow-set diamonds elevate the 84 handcrafted leaves. This marvel required 3,600 hours of meticulous artistry. Similarly, the Avena Sativa tiara honours the gentle sway of oat grass. The lightweight head jewels feature delicate diamondpaved spikelets, dancing with each movement. Their multifunctional design transforms them into brooches, demonstrating innovation in hair jewellery. The Cyclamen Elegans is celebrated in asymmetrical earrings and a ring that capture its grace. Painstakingly set with 101 rose-cut diamonds, the petals radiate a soft luminosity. In contrast, Daucus Carota, or carrot flower, finds its charm in a fluffy diamond-studded brooch. Its intricate clusters embody purity and innocence, introducing fresh inspiration to the collection.

INSECTS

Boucheron’s insect-themed pieces breathe life into these tiny marvels. The Bombus Terrestris, or bumblebee, dazzles with its lifelike wings of engraved rock crystal and mother-ofpearl. A concealed runner mechanism allows this bee to take flight as either a ring or brooch, a feat of technical ingenuity. Equally captivating, the Lucanidae Cervus, or stag beetle, celebrates strength with its diamond-encrusted design. With a simple press of its hidden mechanism, it transforms seamlessly from brooch to ring. Through these exquisite creations, the brand masterfully captures nature’s resilience, grace and adaptability.

This ordinary mineral has moved away from the kitchen and conquered the beauty world. Fernanda Langhammer visited ESPA Life for a special treatment involving Himalayan pink salt.

Waldorf Astoria Doha Lusail is an incredible resort offering a luxurious stay that goes the extra mile expected in five-star properties. It has a private beach with watersport activities, and it’s home to dining spots such as Scarpetta and SUSHISAMBA Doha. However, there is much more; if you want to embrace wellness, you will find ESPA Life –the only facility of its kind in the Middle East – spread over three floors dedicated to your physical and mental regeneration and relaxation, with 19 treatment rooms.

The entrance of the spa is as grand as it looks inside. A big white wall with wave panels and the ESPA Life logo in black invites you to discover this universe. At the reception, I met Daniela, the Director of Spa & Wellness, and Sofia, the Spa Supervisor, who took me on a tour of the space, showing me all the facilities, such as the sauna, steam room and pool, before dropping me at the welcoming room. There, I was introduced to my therapist, Dema, who brought me a drink with chia seeds, rose water and passion fruit, which helps with digestion – it was delicious. She also told me that I would have the Recharge Salt Stone Ritual, and I couldn’t be more excited as we had just written an article about salt and how it has increased its presence in the beauty universe.

I was then shown the changing room to get ready for the 90 minutes of pure delight that was waiting for me. I was super excited to try this innovative treatment that resembles a hot stone massage but uses heated round slabs of pink Himalayan salt instead of black rocks.

Salt is well-known for its exfoliating properties, but this essential kitchen ingredient has more benefits than just helping to remove dead cells. It can be used in stress relieving baths, help to relax muscles and, when combined with nourishing elements, it works wonders to soften skin and restore hydration. Meanwhile, salt rooms have been praised for helping with respiratory issues and promoting calmness. Some studies show that the fluids in the human body correlate strongly with the concentration of minerals in the oceans, and that’s one of the reasons why using salt in beauty treatments helps to balance these elements in our bodies.

The heated Himalayan salt stone massage helps to improve circulation, relieves stress and anxiety, promotes sleep, lightly exfoliates the skin and, thanks to the unique minerals and anti-microbial properties, it may help relieve chronic pain or skin conditions.

The essence of ESPA Life is to encourage optimum well-being for the entire body. And how does it do that? By promoting equilibrium between body and mind – a beautiful holistic approach. My journey started by choosing the oil Dema would use in my massage. She recommended that I should pick the strongest smell and not my favourite. I chose ESPA’s Restorative Bath & Body Oil, which is composed of lavender and sweet orange oil and stimulates rebalancing and comfort. According to my therapist, it meant my body that day needed that, and maybe if I came back another day, I would choose a different one depending on my mental and physical state. Dema then asked me to lie on the massage bed facing up. I have to say that I have done many massages in these years of being OHLALA’s editor, but very rarely have they started this way (actually, the only other time was on a previous visit to ESPA Life). But it made a lot of sense, and it was quite comfortable to begin that way. I loved that after placing a weighted eye pillow, she whispered words of relaxation; it put me in the right mindset to fully embrace the experience.

I am usually very tense and my muscles are tight, not only in the usual places, such as my upper back and shoulders, but also in my neck, arms and legs –yes, I know I should find ways to relax, but my busy mind always manages to create tension in my body, trust me, it’s been a long battle. Dema is an experienced therapist and she immediately felt that I needed extra care. She worked the warm salt rocks firmly in every little knot and tensed muscle; she even used a specific oil in my upper back to treat my chronic issue. Her movements were firm but kind and I didn’t feel any real pain; it was just the good sort that makes you feel like, yeah, this is working!

Hot stone massages have always been my favourite, as they truly alleviate muscle tension, but I think I have a new preferred therapy: the salt stone ritual. Somehow, I felt so energised after it; I not only got the relaxation effect but a boost of energy. The texture of the rocks felt really nice on my skin, adhering to it more than the black stones. I think it was the perfect combination of a wonderful treatment performed by an excellent professional.

After my pampering session, I passed by the Wyld Erth juice bar inside the spa space, where an array of healthy smoothies and treats was available. However, I opted for the comforting hot tea served after the therapies and relaxed in the tranquil environment, reflecting on how exceptional this specific treatment was and how much I needed it. I wish I could pay a visit to ESPA Life at least once a month to repeat it!

The Exclusive Sports Club at Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha proved that it’s raising the bar for wellness in Qatar when AMS went there to check it out.

During my visit to the Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha, I spent a few energising hours exploring the facilities of the Exclusive Sports Club. With its sleek design, modern equipment and expansive space, it’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the leading exercise facilities in Qatar.

FACILITIES AND ATMOSPHERE

Stepping into the indoor gym, I was struck by the abundance of highend equipment neatly arranged across a bright and airy space. The layout was as practical as it was inviting, with rows of treadmills offering views of the palm-fringed outdoors and strength-training machines strategically positioned to allow smooth navigation. Natural light pouring through large windows created an energising atmosphere, while the bold geometric flooring added a stylish touch.

What stood out most was the variety available. From state-of-the-art cardio machines to free weights and resistance equipment, it was clear the gym catered to a broad range of fitness levels and goals. Adjacent to the main gym was a dedicated ladies-only area, offering privacy without sacrificing quality or choice of equipment.

The club also features an impressive outdoor gym designed for those who enjoy fresh air while working out. While I didn’t use it this time, the sight of the space framed by the Doha skyline was tempting.

MY WORKOUT EXPERIENCE

I began with a personal workout session, combining cardio and strength training. The treadmill operated smoothly and was equipped with an intuitive touchscreen that offered entertainment and performance tracking. Moving on to the weight area, I appreciated the variety of dumbbells and machines, all immaculately maintained and easy to use. There was never a moment of waiting for equipment, as the gym had clearly been designed to accommodate peak usage comfortably.

One unique offering I noticed was the ice bath recovery station. Seeing it available as part of the club’s wellness programme made me appreciate how comprehensive the offerings were for both athletes and casual fitness enthusiasts.

GROUP CLASSES

During my visit, I participated in two group classes: Group Cycling and Pilates. The spin class, led by Alaeeddine, was as intense as it was exhilarating. Set outside, it was a completely new experience for me as an avid spinner. The fresh air and the current pleasant climate added an invigorating element to the session, making it an unforgettable outdoor workout. Alaeeddine’s energy and guidance were infectious, pushing me to give my best throughout the class.

Pilates, taught by Zehra, was a complete contrast – calming yet challenging. Set outside as well, the session benefited from the fresh air and pleasant weather, which added a refreshing dimension to the class. Zehra’s approach was patient and encouraging, helping the group focus on technique and flow. Despite my limited experience in Pilates, I left feeling accomplished and invigorated.

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

Beyond the gym and classes, the Exclusive Sports Club offers a wealth of activities such as aqua fit-mat, Kangoo Jump and Tabata, along with more serene options like yoga and paddleboarding. The fact that staying guests had free access to group lessons added significant value. The club also caters to families with engaging kids’ programmes, ensuring everyone has a way to stay active.

Speeding down the palm-lined causeway to Qetaifan Island feels like crossing into another world. An island paradise, at the heart of which rises the stately silhouette of Rixos Premium Qetaifan Island North, its graceful curves reminiscent of a cruise ship poised for adventure. This luxurious resort delivers a perfect balance of opulence and entertainment.

Checking in is seamless as valets whisk away our luggage and our arrival is sweetened by a small plate of apricots and a cup of cardamom-scented Arabic coffee. The lobby is a stunning expanse of polished marble in shades of sand and cream, evoking Qatar’s desert dunes. Great fluted columns support the soaring ceiling, from which skylights bathe the space in light. From one end rises gentle chatter from the lounge, where families rest, drinking coffee and fruit tea infusions and sampling signature artisan baklava. A ruby-red pleated beauty catches my eye, delicately studded with pistachios – proof of Rixos’ historic Turkish hospitality.

Our room is a haven of understated elegance, designed with soothing tones of cream, russet and pale wood. The spacious bathroom, in greygreen marble, is softly lit and stocked with plush dressing gowns and fragrant soaps and salves by L’Occitane. On the sideboard, a tray is piled with fresh fruit and artisan baklava. Beyond, floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a broad balcony, from where we take in a panoramic view. To one side, the serene Arabian Gulf, with the white sands of two of the resort’s different beaches. To the other, a whole world of delights spreads out before us as we look across the terrace to the Meryal Waterpark. The record-breaking attraction beckons us, but first, we take the time to savour and explore our retreat.

To earn my indulgence later, I pay a visit to the innovative outdoor Woodsman Gym. I feel the sand steady me beneath my feet, as all-wooden weights and equipment offer a radically intuitive functional fitness experience. Endorphins flowing through me, I join my partner in the Infinity Pool area. The pool’s turquoise waters blend seamlessly with the blue horizon of the sea. White-clad waiters bring refreshing sundowners and nibbles as we float our worries away.

As the sunset fades the sky into dusk, we make our way to Rixos’ Naturelife Spa. From the cool of a Doha winter evening, comforting warmth floods our bodies as we step inside the sanctuary and swathe ourselves in fluffy robes. Naturelife’s Turkish-inspired wellness experiences include a full traditional Turkish Hammam. But while my partner, in the men’s facilities, heads for his favourite, the sauna, over in the women’s spa, I retreat to my personal refuge, the steam room. As the clouds of fragrant vapour curl around me, the soothing heat melts away lingering tension. Yes, this is a holiday.

But dinner calls! As we descend from our room in our evening best, the strains of live music issue from the light, bright space of the Brasserie de la Mer. But we’re headed for another of Rixos’ dining destinations: the romantic glamour, spice and smoke of Rixos’ newest addition, the bold new steakhouse concept: Diego Jun. Copper-toned murals lit by the fires of an open kitchen promise a truly transporting and original culinary experience. Here, Mexican flavours from head chef Juan Carlos Ramirez Lopez’s heritage collide with the refined fire of Korean cuisine, in a remarkable fusion. Think of perfectly browned beef anticucho skewers served with the umami cocktail of kimchi egg-fried rice, with goma sesame salt. Or imagine the ultimate taco, with tender beef in smoky tomatillo salsa de arbol, elevated with lime ponzu mayo. A tall glass of Moonlight – a mixology masterclass of Earl Grey tea, elderflower, peach and fresh lime –finishes the experience and sends us floating up to our rest.

Morning greets us with bright island light and we make our way downstairs to Turquoise, Rixos’ signature Turkish-inspired dining destination. Beneath walls adorned with blue-painted Turkish tiles, generous buffets are piled high with fresh produce between live cooking stations. My companion heads to get his favourite omelette customised with cheese and sweet tomatoes. Meanwhile, I build my own breakfast of dreams with yoghurt swirled with fresh figs, nuts, seeds and golden honeycomb. The variety is dazzling, from fluffy pancakes to Lebanese Balila (a dish made with chickpeas) and warm piles of Turkish simit seeded bread. To round off the experience, we pair our coffees with a couple of jewel-like cubes of fragrant Turkish delight, also known as lokum. We need the energy, because today’s adventure takes us to Meryal Waterpark – the largest water park in Qatar. With over 60 different slides and attractions, the park is a paradise for thrill-seekers of all ages. Where to begin? Do we dive into the Oil Silk Lagoon, which simulates the rolling ocean, or float along Wave River? Instead, we muster our courage for the Rapid Refinery – part water slide, part Ferris wheel. As our raft spins and slides, the ride itself rotates, creating a swirling adventure that leaves us giddy with excitement. Our courage is boosted and we head for the Driller, where the raft not only rockets through tunnels at thrilling speeds but then drops, leaving your heart in your mouth and your spirits sky high. But the star of the show is Rig 1938, the world’s tallest waterslide tower, boasting 12 different gravity-defying rides. I face my fears on the Fractionator, a high-speed body slide launching riders from over 76 metres into a seemingly infinite series of loops and turns to emerge breathless and triumphant. The park offers plentiful food and refreshment options but, after all that adrenaline, we deserve some tranquillity. While little ones play the day away at Rixos’ kids’ club, grown-ups can slip away to a haven of cool breezes, white sand, shimmering blue sea, soft music and fine dining at Azure Beach Club. While DJs set impeccable vibes, blue and white décor transports diners to the Greek islands at Ammos fine-dining restaurant.

We opt for the latter. Our mezze starters are a triumphant voyage. Truffled tzatziki yoghurt dip is complemented by Tyrokafteri, a traditional creamed feta dip, blushing with smoked paprika and studded with pistachios. Chilli garlic prawns sizzle in a bath of butter and sundried tomatoes. Most dramatic of all, a roasted balloon pita bread crumbles to reveal inside a fresh green rocket salad with manouri cheese and kalamata figs. For the mains, a beef giouvetsi: slow-cooked, melt-in-the-mouth Wagyu short ribs nestle on a bed of homemade orzo short pasta with roasted tomato jus and graviera. While dessert is a revelation with deconstructed baklava bathed in Greek honey and pistachio mousseline cream. Portokalopita, a glowing alchemy of a cake made from whole fresh oranges and extra virgin olive oil, is like sunshine in a dish.

Filled with happiness, we stroll out into the late afternoon sunshine. Passing the infinity pool, we choose beds right at the edge of the sea. Reclining on soft sunbeds, we sip freshly muddled lemon mint mocktails to the accompaniment of gentle waves. Azure’s position grants it some of the longest sunlight hours of any beach in Qatar. So we let our souls recharge with gentle warmth as the air turns golden and the sun slips below the horizon – the perfect end to a perfect day.

Bay View at The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl Qatar has it all: superb cuisine, a bohemian atmosphere and a spellbinding view of the calm waters of Porto Arabia. By day, the turquoise waters dazzle and by night, the skyline sparkles. We arrive in the evening and glide over the twinkling fairytale bridge that leads to the hotel, marvelling at how pretty it looks.

If you’ve never been to The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, then accompany me. A wide, welcoming driveway climbs up to a stately courtyard perfectly designed for a smooth drop-off at the hotel’s grand entrance. Once inside, a showstopper chandelier fills our vision – a flock of aquamarine glass birds encircles a shower of dazzling crystals, with the finishing touch provided by a host of golden flowers. Frankly, it’s worth coming here just to see the chandelier. Next, we pass a bold artwork before descending to the ground floor, where the hotel meets the bay. We see palm trees sway between wooden cabanas, an enticing shoreline and softly lapping waves. Overlooking it all, we spot the restaurant. It couldn’t have a better view. We’re here for an à la carte dinner that we know is going to tick absolutely all the boxes and step inside, ready to be wowed. An industrial steel framework is softened by the boho chic of the décor, with velvet armchairs, soft cushions, low lighting, greenery and warm shades of burnt umber, taupe and mustard everywhere. Meanwhile, panes of glittering glass guarantee that the restaurant is light and airy and when the weather is warm enough, the roof opens to bring outside in.

We are greeted by Restaurant Manager Ali, Marketing Executive Nour and Chef Mohamed Sleiman (who we soon discover is very, very talented indeed) and two delicious mocktails – Pineapple Paradise and Cucumber Cool. Our hosts then bring a banquet of delights for us to enjoy. The starters! Where to begin?

We try the Quinoa and Avocado Salad – a bountiful dish that also includes peppers and cucumber, dotted with almond flakes and adorned with butter and lemon vinegar. It’s a mouthful of pure heaven – silky and lemony, with oodles of texture.

The stand-out dish of the trio of dips is the Smashed Guac. It’s smooth but has texture and bite. The tomato salsa is a wonderful contrast, as is the sour cream. With an abundance of tortilla chips, there’s enough for us to enjoy on this table and the next.

With the addition of chicken, the Caesar Salad deserves to be awarded main-course status, it’s so hearty. Delicious Romaine lettuce (there’s no room for Iceberg here) is accompanied by a homemade Caesar dressing that I honestly wish I had in my fridge. Crunchy focaccia, parmesan tuiles and beautifully grilled chicken complete this excellent dish.

The Polpo Alla Griglia is impossibly inventive. A crown of grilled octopus, wafer-thin slices of radish, pomegranate seeds, crispy chickpeas and chilli oil decorate a perfect creamy disc of hummus. It’s different and delightful. The Seabass Ceviche is piquant and moreish, mingling with tomato salsa, lime aioli, olives, coriander and chilli, which nestle together under tempura sheets. It’s a lighter dish, but one with substance. But, oh, the Burrata and Tomato Flatbread. Flavoursome Heirloom tomatoes, pine nuts, basil pesto sauce, black olives, rocket leaves, aubergine and the pièce de resistance of olive powder sprinkled on the perfect ball of piquant burrata send the starter out of this world. It is seriously delicious. I would eat it again any time.

Before we reach capacity, we move on to the signature mains. At the first mouthful, you absolutely know that the Braised Beef Cheek has been slow-cooked for 48 hours. (It really has.) At the touch of a fork, the meat just falls apart. Accompanied by perfect mash, caramelised baby carrots, broccoli and a delicate drizzle of basil jus, it’s a dish guaranteed to satisfy the biggest appetite.

The Lobster Feast is amazing. A whole lobster is cooked to perfection and served with creamy quinoa and garlic, lemon and herb butter. The lobster is soft, sweet, toothsome and nothing short of delicious.

We barely have room for dessert, but try them anyway. The crispy and truly authentic Churros come with two sauces (chocolate and dulce de leche), while the fruit platter is the ideal palate cleanser.

I have to say that I would hurry back for the Chicken Caesar Salad and Churros any time.

Bay View is The St. Regis’s main restaurant; it seats 120 inside and 50 on the spacious terrace outside, so there’s ample room for guests. The restaurant is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, when diners can expect their food to be accompanied by beautiful music. Saxophonist and oysters? Yes, please.

This month, thanks to the team at HONGQI Qatar, OHLALA got behind the wheel of the HONGQI HS3. Having recently experienced two of this Chinese luxury car marque’s saloons, the H9 and the Ousado, plus the outstanding HS5 Deluxe 4WD SUV, we had high expectations for the brand’s latest release.

BOLD & ELEGANT EXTERIOR

We were taken by surprise the first time we laid eyes on a HONGQI in 2022. We were not expecting the level of craftsmanship and sophistication we experienced. However, when approaching our fourth HONGQI testdrive model, we immediately appreciated the now familiar design concept of the HONGQI family DNA, along with the novel ‘Wings of HONGQI’ greeting lights, designed to create the effect of an eagle taking flight.

In the HS3, the brand has continued its winning formula of bold design concepts combined with elegant touches. From head-on, this striking SUV exudes athleticism and power while maintaining an air of refined grace.

As with all the other HONGQIs we’ve experienced, the HS3 showcases a sculpted bonnet complemented by the red HONGQI logo line at its front and centre that continues down the middle of the grille.

The upscale grille is eye-catching and exhibits a geometric design for optimal air intake. Enhancing the SUV’s aggressive-looking face are splitdesign headlights and well-positioned fog lamps.

Focussing on the flanks, we appreciated the aesthetically pleasing convex and concave surfaces that add to the aerodynamic nature of this sturdy SUV. Sleek yet pronounced wheel arches house stylish 19-inch wheels featuring a unique rim design, while power-folding and movable side mirrors with integrated turn signals further enhance the classy nature of the car.

At the back end, the well-designed tail lights frame a boxy yet modernlooking rear, with a single LED light running the full width of the vehicle, providing a touch of sporty appeal. The neatly designed rear bumper and exhaust system further add to the handsome hind quarters.

TIMELESS INTERIOR

We discovered the luxurious nature of the new HS3’s exterior to flow effortlessly into the interior, where we were greeted by a high level of opulence. Slipping into the uber comfy, ventilated and multi-adjustable front seating of HONGQI’s new SUV, we had the perfect position to take in the upmarket interior.

Along with the high-end materials used throughout the vehicle, the HS3 features 253 ambient interior lighting options, allowing us to customise the mood of the internal environment. During the heat of the day, the dual-zone climate control and panoramic sunroof ensure plenty of cool air and natural light.

The centre console and gear controller deserve a special mention, thanks to their stylish look, expensive feel and convenient design.

As the day progressed, the more we inspected the cabin, the more impressed we became with every little detail and finish. It is obvious HONGQI remains steadfast in its commitment to creating beautiful vehicles with first-class interiors.

Furthermore, the abundance of space on offer throughout the SUV meant plenty of head, shoulder and leg room in both the front and the back.

ADVANCED INFOTAINMENT & TECH

We discovered the infotainment system of the new HS3 to be both clean and minimalistic. The system comprises one 12.6-inch LCD screen and one 12.3-inch LCD instrument display.

Not only did we find the system beautifully integrated into the HS3’s cockpit, but intuitive and easy to navigate, providing us with simple access to the vehicle’s extensive range of functions.

A 10-speaker Bose Centrepoint surround sound system is a part of the setup, amongst several other entertainment amenities. Further fancy features of our test drive model included wireless phone charging, an air quality sensor, a head-up display and a multi-function steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth switch, MID select and voice command.

POWER, PERFORMANCE & SAFETY

Despite the impressive nature of all aspects of this luxury SUV’s exterior and interior designs, it was its on-road performance that secured our attention. Housing a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, Turbo Charged Direct Injection Engine, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the new HS3 is no slouch on the tarmac.

Delivering 248hp and 380Nm of torque, this new HONGQI accelerates from 0-100km/h in a respectable 6.9 seconds. Every time we applied pressure to the right pedal, the car responded, adding plenty of enjoyment to the driving experience.

Additionally, the four-wheel drive system, combined with the five selectable driving modes, ensures the best possible performance on any surface and in all conditions. We found the Sport Plus mode especially pleasing, adding extra verve to the SUV’s performance.

To ensure the well-being of all occupants, HONGQI has included an extensive range of safety and driver assistance features in the new HS3. These include Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, ISOFIX points in the rear and airbags located throughout the vehicle, to name but a few.

OUR VERDICT

HONGQI seems to be raising the bar further with every new premium car model it produce. If the brand continues along its current trajectory, it may soon gain the popularity of other, more established, elite brands.
