Provocation 1/3 PALIMPSEST By realising connections between things/people/ideas/objects it became clear that almost everything is related and layered upon.

2/3 ORDER An insistence on literal objects in real space Interest in: • Modularity • Industrial fabrication • Desire to overcome distinction between art & life Removal of: • Internal compositional relations of a painting • Nuances of form

3/3 AROUSAL Originally inspired by the medium of short film, an exhibition at Masnedø Fort, DK and following a series of conversations about emotion & spaces, rather than creating a cliché of emotionally depressing architecture, how could I turn this around?

How can spaces be created to promote feelings? Is it possible to arouse users through spatial design decisions? Does architecture have a responsibility to address sex [in the way music/ literature/painting/drawing/art does]?

HATE NOTES: Howard Roark of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead is a megalomaniacal representation of the architect I hate. Rand’s representation of human beings as intrinsically self centered animals driven by self interest is not a view to which I subscribe.

I see Rand’s argument of the Individual vs. the Collective, represented through Howard Roark, as the embodiment of problems in a globalised neoliberal society. I reject capitalism and believe firmly in the Marxist view of co-operative production and socialist economies.

Music Video NOTES: A music video to appeal to the Y Generation. but ripping off ideas and the rise of self made (YouTube & other) videos as a normal method of communication and form of self expression.

Kanye West made his name through sampling tracks and remixing tunes, yet when this mashup was released on internet forums Universal Music Group deleted it form the internet in order to “protect” KW. The Irony is not lost here. Death Cab For Cutie probably sold more records as a result.

Draw: Escapism NOTES: A section drawn through a moment of opportunity. The female seeks opportunity to escape ugly realities of standardised built environments by jumping through the section into serene nature and classical beauty, informed in a metaphysical understanding of beauty. The male sits on the section line, contemplating jumping.

What is an approved zone document?

Summary (Concept)

The Secretary of Higher States has approved a series of zone documents that give practical guidance about how to meet the requirements of the Building Regulations 2020 for England.

Following the election of President Trump, Prime Minister Johnson and the breakdown of social order in 2018. The Department of Love, Compassion and Care for Others in collaboration with the Secretary for Higher States deemed all legislation superseded.

Approved zone documents set out what, in ordinary circumstances, may be accepted as reasonable provision for compliance with the relevant requirements of the Building Regulations to which they refer. If you follow the guidance in an approved zone document there will be a presumption of compliance with the requirements covered by the guidance. However, compliance is not guaranteed There is no guarantee of success, only failure
