Y1: Introduction What is an approved zone document? Following the election of President Trump, Prime Minister Johnson and the breakdown of social order in 2018. The Department of Love, Compassion and Care for Others in collaboration with the Secretary for Higher States deemed all legislation superseded. Generation Y has become desensitised to violence/sex/horror/beauty/love/compassion,therefore these guidelines have become necessary. This Approved Zone Document (Technology Exploration) sets out what, in ordinary circumstances, may be accepted as reasonable provision (subject to approval from the module leader) for compliance with the syllabus for module P30030 However, compliance is not guaranteed there is no guarantee of success, only of failure.
How to use this approved zone document This document is a framework for my technological explorations. Follow links within the document for further explanations and drawings etc. This document uses the following conventions (and seeks to challenge the expected) a.
Text against a magenta background is an extract of important knowledge which must not be
ignored. b.
Key terms printed in magenta are defined in Appendix A (Glossary)

Y2: Design Project Overview A video describing synthesised design research and my architectural position can be found at 11_PG_ ARCH POSITION_RevF. Throughout my works in Zone5 I have been specifically interested in looking at emotion in spaces. More particularly I am interested in sexual arousal and to what extent architecture can influence this. Whilst slightly satirical, by re-interpreting the building regulations and drafting them specifically aimed at my own design agenda, this platform should be an easily navigable method of explaining my technological explorations.
Y3: Personal Agenda Initial inspiration for the project is seen in 1_1_Provocation, which asks the question of whether spaces can be created to promote [influence] feelings, whether the space itself can inspire an emotional response? It would be easy to invoke feelings of sadness or power with a crematoria type project, but I want to make a space which arouses its user/visitor/consumer.
Y4: Programme Final submission in May 2017 will incorporate • A full technological study covering the areas explored throughout my design project. The format for this document will be similar to this submission, however topics will be fully explored and described. • Link to my personal blog, which is a navigable repository of all works produced throughout the year which explicitly allow the reader to follow narrative and understand my architectural position. All work on my blog is produced by me, unless otherwise credited. NOTE: All design and technology work should be viewed alongside each other and are not mutually exclusive. Items marked #technology are specifically related to my technological exploration Technology Exploration & Design

Y5: Interpretation of Approved Documents Approved [Zone] Document - Existing By writing a speculative “building regulations document traditional technology information has to be understood. Building regulations documents set out legislative guidelines which are necessary to comply with current requirements. I am proposing that these requirements do not engage with important matters such as sensuality and space.

Other larger sizes may affect the overall size of a bathroom or WC/cloakroom. 2. Access zones may overlap except where noted. 3. The access zone to the basin may extend under it as far as any fixed obstruction, such as a vanity unit, pedestal or trap. 4. In WC/cloakrooms the basin and/or WC may encroach into the shower space but this should be minimised. 5. Any radiator or towel rail should be clear of all access zones.

Y7: 4 Dimensionality The 4 basic “emotional dimensions” (defined by Kuller, 1980) are: • • • •
Activation Attention Evaluation Control
This is best represented as a 4 dimensional sphere (hypersphere) shown in 6_n-S_n-SPHERE where the axes can each be represented as these “emotional dimensions”
In turn, this exploration of 4 dimensional space (the series “Dimensions” explains this theory in detail) can begin to inform architecture and spatial arrangements. Looking objectively at how dimensions work, I believe there is a possibility to interpret 4 dimensional space (treating the 4th dimension as a spatial dimension (w) rather than time (t)) as proposed in super-string theory. Humans, as 3 dimensional beings, can only experience 3 dimension, however emotion is far more complicated than that.

The mathematical definition of a hypersphere is shown in the sketch. Called “Content the addition of extra dimensions opens up the opportunity to interpret these dimensions to include unusual data sets, such as emotional a influence.
6_4D_VIDEO AS SKETCH describes the possibility of how virtual reality could be used to explore the 4th dimension spatially.

The scientific/psychological data behind emotion and how space affects emotion. Possibly by using Virtual Reality, and by obtaining empirical data from Vu+Q app. I can use this information to create generative design, fractal models etc. which have an informed basis. Some headings for the data is described in the way we perceive architectural space, seen in the diagram.

Appendix A: Glossary Architectural Position: My personal standpoint on how I perceive and value architecture and society. 3_3_HATE should be used for reference if left in doubt Content (m4): Due to the complexity of emotion - the 4 dimensional realm is used as a platform to understand and represent this. Department of Love, Compassion and Care for Others: A speculative Governmental department headed by the Secretary for Higher States. The department seeks to promote empathy within a posttruth society. Technology Exploration: Preseted in this document are the current themes upon which I am exploring with an explicit technological intent. Hypnerotomachia Poliphili: 15th century text, translated as Poliphilo’s Strife of Love in a Dream. One of the first attributed architectural publications from the renaissance. An original copy is held in the Bodleian Library. Programmatic Proposals: Conclusions from the research and thinking carried out thoughout the year will manifest themselves as guidelines (much as in the way Building Regulations work) P30030: Module code for Advanced Technology for Design Super-string theory: Current theory within phyisics, to explain a unified theorem. Defining up to 10 spatial dimensions iin order to create mathematical consistency. Vu+Q app: A cloud based app which interprets visual information (photographs) and generates numerical data known as the CVI (complexity, variety, intensity) Index - this may be able to be interpreted with an emotional response.
