The magic word is production. What are reasons for why your partners choose your products? VINO Kadife’s “Customer First” philosophy is just one of reasons that they prefer us, to say more understandable, now you have to manufacture flawlessly better, as soon as possible, with affordable price and in line with customer demand. We are a company that adopts and conducts these principles, so our customers prefer VINO Kadife with a great pleasure.

As VINO that shows a great performance in the European markets, can you talk about 2017 trends?

Ercan Hacıarabacı Sunday Akyar Tuğba Sarnık Aktaş Latif Sarnık

So VINO Kadife has been carrying out R&D activities in line with expectation and demands of these countries. Therefore it has a strong presence in the market and increases its market share, offering customers ever-renewing designs. We want to present customers the newest designs by attending exhibitions which will be held in Europe in 2017. We believe that now we are permanent in the European market thanks to VINO’s quality. What do you expect from Heimtextil as an exhibitor in terms of meeting customer expectation and demands?

24

FAIRWORLD

Europe is a very significant market for VINO. Right now about 50 percent of Turkish exports by value are delivered to European countries. Thus European market has an essential importance for Turkey.

Heimtextil is the most important fair of the world. We aim to bring together the newest and the most unique products with our customers, amid a continuing economic slowdown. We, as a nation, have to manufacture more and more, this is only way to develop. Today Germany’s kg export price is $4,5 but we sell our products only $1,5 as kilogram price. However it is $4.30 in home textile, and about $8-10 in the velvet sector. That’s, velvet is a high value added product. That’s why Heimtextil is high-value-added goods’ gateway to the world. Are you interested in Iran as an alternative market? Do you seek new markets to expand your business because of negative influences of the crisis between Russia and Turkey? We are interested all countries as an alternative market, except Iran and Russia. To be honest, political crisis between Turkey and Russia didn’t affect us at all, tourism sector was affected by it, but the fact that Russian revenue from oil and natural gas production has declined significantly in response to low oil prices; Ruble lost value against the U.S. dollar has reduced the purchasing power of Russian wages. It is what has affected Turkey. They turned to cheap products. The government has to support manufacturers amid crisis. It can take some measures against cheap goods Turkey imported. So it reduces outflow of foreign currency and local manufacturers increase their export, leading to more foreign currency inflow. Thus it boosts employment. VINO Kadife’s designs were displayed in the special trend section of HOMETEX, Istanbul. Why VINO? Can you talk about it? HOMETEX Istanbul is held in right time in October, but starting its first year, exhibitors’ interest in the fair diminishes gradually. Administration of the event should explore reasons of it and find a solution. And of course manufacturers also have to make a great effort so that it can be popular. We, as VINO Kadife, attach a significant importance to HOMETEX. We are always renewing our designs, so that’s why our products are preferred most in the Turkey map. Is there anything else you want to add? Turkey has no oil or gas. As a nation, we have to manufacture high-value-added goods and export them. We, as a nation and state, have to work harder to increase competitive power in the global markets. The magic word is production. We have to make all kinds of effort to increase production and exports. 25

KRAVET CARPET INTRODUCED COLLECTION WITH CARPET DESIGNER MALENE B. Discover an innovative and worldly perspective at Kravet Carpet from world traveler, carpet designer, and culture enthusiast Malene Barnett, better known by her brand name Malene B. Infused with her globally-inspired personal style, Malene’s custom Tibetan carpet collection is hand-knotted in Nepal using a unique weaving technique, resulting in bold patterns, graphic texture and a sophisticated viewpoint. The collection is bursting with island flavor and free-flowing, organic patterns. Known for her inventive creations that celebrate people and cultures from around the world, Malene finds inspiration in design that speaks to the soul and inspires people to connect to the global community. “I get inspired by learning about my heritage and culture, people and places from around the world and participating in cultural ceremonies,” said Malene, who has traveled and toured more than 25 countries around the world. “I travel as often as I can to experience new things and this keeps me inspired.” A true carpet artisan herself, Malene looked to the landscape and natural elements found on a tropical island, from the rolling turquoise ocean waves to the tactile texture of the moon, each pattern having its own unique story to tell. “I’m inspired by people, places and things that most would overlook,” she explained. “I may see the patterns in the materials used in a floor, the ripples in the water, or the residue from a stain on the wall. I take these inspirations and turn them into one-of-a-kind patterns.”

EUROPEAN AND JAPANESE TEXTILES INDUSTRIES HAND IN HAND FOR THE CONCLUSION OF THE EU-JAPAN FTA The Textile & Clothing (T&C) industry is a growing industry on worldwide basis. Operating in a very competitive environment, the EU and Japan are still taking leading roles in developing high technology and quality of fibres and fabrics as well as in creating high value added apparels and fashion. Both the EU and Japan are key export markets for their respective T&C Industry. In the case of the EU industry, Japan is the 7th T&C export market reaching almost 1.9 bill.€. For the Japanese industry, the EU is the 3rd export market reaching almost 0.7 bill.€. Euratex, the European Textile and Apparel Confederation, and JTF, Japanese Textile Federation, maintain excellent relationship and complementarity activities. The trade structure of T&C between the EU and Japan is complementary. Under those circumstances, both industries believe that a trade deal would expand the trade and investment in T&C between the two parties and promote further business development. It would also build platforms in various types of R&D cooperation, thereby creating new innovations and business opportunities. Over the last years, both associations have had deep discussions on the way to reach an agreement that will benefit companies from both parties. They recently agreed on major issues, as for tariffs elimination and rules of origin. Mr. Piolat, President of Euratex, emphasized the importance of the Joint Statement by stating that: “Our Japanese colleagues believe, like we do, that the rules should be adapted to the structure of our industries and that we both are best judges of what works for our industries. I am therefore very happy that we can share this Joint Statement and I urge the negotiators both sides to take it into due consideration”.

Istanbul’s new airport is one-third completed As the world’s largest airport project in Turkey continues to rise, Istanbul gears up to host the busiest air hub and duty free shop. Construction is progressing on Istanbul’s new airport, which will be the largest international airport in the world, will have six runways, the world’s biggest duty free shop and a capacity of 200 million passengers. “Around 38 percent of the airport construction has been completed and we are working day and night to end the project in due time,” said Yusuf Akçayoğlu, senior executive officer of the Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA) construction. All shops in the duty free area must be certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design. Istanbul’s new airport, dubbed as the third airport, will have four phases and become fully operational by 2028 as the first phase is expected to be completed in the next two years. Currently, Istanbul Atatürk International Airport in the European side and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in the Asian part are addressing the needs of the city’s air traffic.

68

FAIRWORLD

69

When the first phase ends in 2018, it will have the world’s largest terminal under one roof, with a gross floor area of nearly 11 million square feet and the ability to serve 90 million passengers a year. But with the completion of all phases, the airport will be the busiest one in the world with flights to 350 destinations and, eventually, an annual capacity of 200 million passengers. Located on the Black Sea coast on the European part of Istanbul, the airport will be a gateway to Turkey with rail, metro and bus links. The ongoing construction includes a main terminal and two smaller terminals bordered by six runways, along a tulip-shaped air traffic control tower and space for a park, hotels, mosques, medical centers and conference centers. The tulip-design foundation for the traffic control tower was chosen via international competition and it is expected to be the symbol of Istanbul, one of the iconic cities in Europe. When the first phase is operated, 2000 aircrafts from 250 airline companies can use the airport for landing and taking off every day, according to the project. IGA said the construction work was carried out in three shift a day. IGA CEO Akçayoğlu said the project is among the nominees of the Guinness Book of World Records not only for being the world’s largest air hub but for being largest construction project around the globe. More than 22,000 personnel, including 10 percent white collar workers, are currently working in the construction yard, he said adding that 3,100 heavy machine equipment fleet with 2,000 high capacity trucks are being used at the site.

CHRISTIAN F FABRIC BENU SPLASH

OEUVRE

The exotic jungle motif of Benu Splash was hand-drawn in Christian Fischbacher’s design studio and superimposed on a watercolour. The colourful design is realised in France as an environmentally friendly inkjet print on a technically innovative decorative fabric made from recycled plastic PET bottles.

Oeuvre’s dramatic floral impressions were painted in free-flowing brushwork and then printed digitally in great detail.

Discarded plastic bottles are collected, crushed, melted down and spun into polyester filament yarns that are subsequently woven into the fabric. With Benu Splash, Christian Fischbacher has managed to unite sustainability with the highest aesthetic demands.

Artemis represents a new generation of Trevira CS yarns. The jacquard design that was created in our in-house design studio appears like a cotton-viscose fabric.

All the fabrics in the Benu collection are made from recycled materials and are examples of sustainability and environmentally conscious production.

TRIONFO Trionfo is a monochromatic design printed on a double-width base cloth of 100% linen. Its fine oriental spirit shows pretty, harmonious, ornamental shapes of soft leaves and little flowers. It is made to be coordinated with Ibiza to help create tastefully decorate rooms. Available in 5 soft and delicate shades of lighter colors as well as darker, more bold tones. DAMASCUS Damascus is a very finely woven light jacquard in double-width. In order to create the damask pattern the most technically advanced machines are used to create this unique play of floating fine linen yarns woven on a matt organdy base.
