THE BIG 3 Whether you’ve been attending Faith Church for a long time or you are a first time visitor, THE PAPER is here to help! Being a part of this church family is a partnership in growth, so we encourage you to be involved in 3 ways:
Worship on the Weekends Gather with others to listen to a message from God’s Word, sing, pray and lift up the name of Jesus. Attend a service at one of our campuses. Faith Kids (infant-5th grade) is a safe place where kids can worship Jesus at their level. Don’t miss the opportunity to gather with others and worship each week. Invite a friend.
connect in Community Being a follower of Jesus was never meant to be done alone. Sole-ranger Christianity usually means discouragement and failure. God has provided a better way-Biblical community. Community keeps us encouraged, helps us build meaningful friendships, and most importantly, helps us grow as Christians. This may be through a Mini-Church, Bible study or Serving Team. No matter what your age, God does not intend for you to walk through life alone. Be real. Be known.
SERVE OTHERS Join a weekend Serving Team at one of our campuses. Serve in your neighborhood or around the world! God has gifted each of us to do something special. Discover the joy of serving.

LEADERSHIP
Bob Bouwer’s highlights from the Global Leadership Summit
When I hear the word “summit” mentioned in a church service, I automatically think of a large group of headof-the-church pastors in a serious room, especially when the word “leadership” is added to it. Basically, not for the average Joe. Like me. So when there’s an announcement in church about the “Global Leadership Summit,” I instantly assume it’s not an event for me, and I switch over to my everyday thoughts like what I’m going to eat for dinner. Little did I know, the Global Leadership Summit is an event tailored to people like me. And you. And everyone. It’s not just for current big-wig leaders in churches or businesses. Regardless of where you’re at in your life, or who you are, this two-day conference is meant to inspire, equip and challenge you right where you need it most. It’s basically eight, one-hour sessions (with
plenty of breaks in-between) where influential speakers offer you top-notch training on leadership. In a recent interview with Pastor Bob Bouwer, he revealed some interesting knowledge about leadership. It will leave you with a hunger to learn more about becoming a better leader. After all, as Pastor Bob says, we are all leaders in some way. Q. What are your insights from the Global Leadership Summit 2014? A. Here are some highlights from the Leadership Summit that really hit home for me: Bill Hybels (Founder and Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church) opening on leadership. Bill said that there are two kinds of people that leaders have to figure out:
1.) Hirelings – These are the people who do their job, but only because they are getting paid. They’re not really concerned with the value of their work. 2.) Legacy Leaders – These people see their job as an impact on this world. Legacy leaders are passionate about their job. Joseph Grenny (Co-Founder of VitalSmarts; Social Scientist for Business Performance) – He said the best church has very honest conversations. A lot of people don’t have them, because they’re afraid that they will lose a friend. There was a study done on this. Research shows that your relationship gets better, not worse, when you have those honest conversations. People will tell only 90% truth, because of fear. So now, I have this policy in our office that they can knock on my door, and then
ask, “Hey, can we go the last ten percent?” It’s breaking through the fear to talk to people. That was a big breakthrough for me in the 2014 Summit. Q. What are your insights on Leadership in general? A. Leadership is getting a group of people on a journey towards the same destination. The “leader” part of leadership is seeing something that not everyone sees. The “ship” part of leadership is creating the movement of people toward the future. A good leader influences people into a God-honoring future. It’s finding and empowering key leaders for the future. You don’t want to be a leader who micromanages everything that goes on. You find those key leaders, and then you help them develop the skills needed until they can manage more on their own. Leadership requires a lot of humility and vulnerability. This is the case for churches and businesses. For me being the senior pastor at Faith Church, I don’t preach every week all year long. I could’ve had it that way from the beginning, but I think it’s important that our church doesn’t become dependent on one leader. It’s not good for the church, and it’s not good for my ego. If something were to happen to me, I want our church to be able to carry on and keep growing, knowing that it’s not just because of me and my leadership. We have a great group of teaching pas-

Along with my husband, Jason, and our three children, I have been part of the Faith Church family for two years. We worship at the Beecher Campus and are privileged to serve the Lord there. I greatly enjoy serving through the Worship Ministry, Missions, and have been involved in MOPS as well. MOPS, in particular, has been a safe place where I can live life authentically alongside other moms, and it is for that reason that I am overjoyed to serve now as the MomsNation Director for Faith Church. My prayer is that God will work through MomsNation to grow His family and to deepen the participants’ relationships with Him.

FLOOD THE INBOX By Anne Contreras
Getting assimilated in a church that is “One church with multiple locations” can at times be challenging. And having the option of watching church in your own kitchen via live stream means you don’t even have to brush your teeth or leave your house! Most of us know that Faith Church has inspiring sermons and talented musicians which make our voices seem worthy of American Idol. What you may not realize is that there’s a whole other part of church that is full of life and blessings, and it awaits you with open arms. It’s the church within the church. It’s called “Mini-Church.” Mini-Church is a small group of people that form a community to share life, study and apply God’s Word, and find opportunities to serve inside and outside the church. Now before you roll your eyes with the “Sunday-morning-is-enough-for-me” look, at least read what people are saying about being a part of a Mini-Church. And it may help to know that there are many types of Mini-Churches available. Like a Mini-Church that provides opportunity to discuss the weekend sermon. How about a Mini-Church for people who are single? If you can only meet on Saturday evenings, there’s a Mini-Church for that, too. It has been my joy to see the Mini-Church Ministry take deep roots here at Faith Church. This ministry field has continually been tilled, planted, watered and harvested over the past 7 years by many faithful leaders and participants. When the invitation was extended to all participants to share their spiritual “growth” stories, my inbox was flooded with beautiful accounts of God’s love, truth and mercy displayed in people’s live. These words below can’t fully capture all that the Lord is doing in the lives of those who engage in the Mini-Church ministry—but here is a glimpse of God’s goodness unfolding around us. John 10:10 says, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Mini-Church is a place where abundant life is happening. 8
READ AND ENJOY!
“We joined our Mini-Church nearly 4 years ago after finding it on the Faith Church website. We were looking for a place to connect as a family with other families at Faith. And it has been a great experience! Families from our Mini-Church have served together at a food pantry, wrapped presents for Children’s Hunger Fund and raised $$ for a new water well in Africa. We firmly believe the best place to grow in a church this large is in smaller groups. So if you’re not connected yet, start here! You won’t regret it!!” “I had double knee surgery in December and our MiniChurch was such a blessing with many prayers, cards, calls, and meals to give me a much speedier recovery.” “Our Mini-Church serving project collected donations of snack items, freeze pops, and juice boxes for the Royal Kids Camp for foster children in Lake County.” “For years our Mini-Church met and had a lot of laughs and good times together, but
spiritually and emotionally we stayed a little on the surface. Our family was going through a hard time and I finally shared with our group how I felt about getting a little deeper with one another. Others in our group had been feeling the same way. We are now deeper with one another and can lean on each other, pray for one another, and support each other through life’s ups and downs. God has surrounded us with a community of believers that can come alongside us on this earth.” “After meeting a gal for coffee who was interested in connecting with our Single’s Mini-Church, I kept in touch with her via text messaging. She did come to the group and has been part ever since. She has also asked how else she can get connected at Faith Church. She just contacted me with thanks that she would have not come this far without someone to trust and walk with her.” “When our Mini-Church discusses the “Continue the Conversation Questions”
(found on the Faith Church Website) it reinforces the message in me; this helps me so much and I love the heartfelt answers from others. God is so amazing.” “My husband and I love our Mini-Church!!! I would have never thought that learning and understanding the Bible would be so easy and enjoyable. Our leader is awesome!” “I can’t say enough about our Mini-Church! Most importantly, I have gained a deeper relationship with our Lord Jesus. I have been through some very tough times recently and these sisters and brothers in Christ have supported, talked and prayed with me through it all. I praise God for the comfort I have received!

Purchase with a Purpose I Am a Church Member: Discovering the Attitude That Makes the Difference By Thom S. Rainer I Am a Church Member (based on an idea originally taken from author Thom S. Rainer’s daily blog) discusses the attitudes and responsibilities of church members. Rainer addresses in detail what congregations should really be focusing on — praying for church leaders, being a functioning member, treasuring church membership, and more. According to Thom Rainer, Church membership doesn’t simply have privileges, it is a privilege. And I couldn’t agree more. In I Am A Church Member Thom delivers a biblical perspective and practical approach to church membership. This little book is both refreshing and inspirational. I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend you pick it up! Andy Stanley North Point Ministries
