Design brief The space that I have decided to rebuild, and produce is north stifford village hall. This location can be seen as the main meeting point of the community thought the village. Currently it is not the most attractive looking place and is not used much . I therefore plan on constructing a site where it can be used for multiple occasions, such as watching the cricket, community events , and hall that can be used for parties and fairs Also, a place where families can come together , while children can be occupied by a playground and adults can relax I also plan to incorporate a library where students can come and study in a better space environment Currently ,people that enjoy watching the cricket don’t have a large space range of seating, so I'd want to include a unique seating design . It will also attract A café will as be included and I plan on to make it a garden café , this can also be used as a farmer's marker which can be s included and I plan on to make it a garden café , this can also be used as a farmer's marker which can be supplied and sold by local farmers in the area

Specification The space will must be enough to accommodate students study space/library a social area and a café therefore the community centre should be split up into multiple parts • A café • Social area • Library/studying space • Playground • Seating areas

location

•this area is also not used well •There is a practising part for cricket, but this can be moved •The land area is quite big and can be reconstructed to be at use •The view and theme would also fit into the landscape features that are available and can be offered on the site •This area is key as it is the centre on the village, and everyone drives past it as the main road is in the middle •It also has easy access and can be walked to with not far distance from everyone's homes

•The site that I plan on reconstructing is the main community town hall and along towards the end as the land is not used •I have chosen this site as it is not well built and used at all and can be recon structed into a more useful place •Cricket matches take part here and people watch by sitting on a couple of benches •There is also a small little indoor café •Overall, it's not the best designed place as there is not enough seating and the not attractive looking •There is also a kids play park which I also plan on re doing as it is quite small

History of north stifford- the tower •The Stepney Children's Home was set up in 1902 to accommodate both orphaned and poor children from that London district. It is believed that there was a theme of agricultural training work, and nearby fields were used for growing a range of market garden crops. By 1935 the site had changed its roll into an 'approved' school, changing again in 1959 to a Community Home (education) under the control of the London Borough of Newham. It finally closed in 1994.

History of north stifford- The Dog & Partridge •

The Dog and Partridge inn, which stands in High Road facing the junction with Clockhouse Lane, was recorded as an alehouse in 1757.

The present-day Dog and Partridge Pub has been drastically renovated over the years, but it has a long history.

Around 1575 Sir Richard Gurney (a middle-class Tudor merchant) invested in a collection of houses, barns and land in Stifford.

A few years later he bought from Thomas Keighley (a leather seller) a house known as 'Lovelands' which included 30 acres of Stifford land. The building was later called 'The Clockhouse' and as the name suggests it housed an impressive clock. 'The Clockhouse' was registered as an independent meeting house in the 17th century and gave its name to Clockhouse Lane. The Dog and Partridge Public House now stands upon this site. The housing of the clock can still be found in the pub today, and an original fireplace remains in the bar.

History of north stifford – st mary the virgin church • The Church (Virgin Mary,) is an ancient structure of flint and stone, with a tower containing three bells, and crowned by a shingled spire. • It has a nave, south aisle; chancel, and south chapel, and on the floor are several ancient brasses. • The original parish church (St Mary's) is located within North Stifford • The church contains several interesting medieval monumental brasses

History of north stifford - Stifford Hall Hotel

Set in the picturesque village of North Stifford by Thurrock nestles Stifford Hall Hotel an elegant 18th century Georgian Mansion House. Like most old country houses, Stifford Lodge (the most recent name of the property before it became a hotel) has undergone many alterations over the years.

There was a house on the site as early as 1327 when it was owned by Henry de Shirewell; it was probably of timber-frame construction. This medieval house seems to have been substantially rebuilt in brick, probably by the Kingsman family in the mid - 18th century.

After the war, the house was purchased by Colonel Sherwood who was the head of Sherwood paints and was regarded as ‘Stifford’s last squire. He spent a good deal of time in Barbados and died there in 1966. The house became a hotel after his death and in its time, it has been known as the Thurrock Moat House, Park Inn Thurrock and now privately owned, restored to the Stifford Hall Hotel
