Magical, monstrous or macabre: whatever you create needs to be believable. The appetite for storytelling has never been bigger and audiences are more discerning than ever, so see what it takes to make your imagination a reality.

With prosthetics being used in everything from high-definition films to live events, they need to look perfect from every angle.

In our Prosthetic Effects MA— which we’re running in partnership with Gorton Studio, Europe’s leading prosthetics and makeup FX school, and its award-winning sister company Millennium FX — you’ll learn everything you need to become a professional. But if you can’t wait until you’ve enrolled to get started, here are some things you can work on right now:

A thirst for knowledge

You can find lots of online tutorials on YouTube. They won’t give you the same detailed guidance you’ll find on this course, or replicate the experience gained by working in a real studio, but you’ll find some fascinating looks to help fire up your imagination.

A head for figures

Start studying anatomy. The more you understand anatomy – of humans, of animals, of mythical creatures — the easier it will become to make convincing creatures. Drawing anatomically correct sketches and face shapes can really help you hone these skills, along with model making or even carving.
