WELCOME
welcome I have come to understand that one of the greatest qualities of the Maltings is that we are not a state-of-the-art, purpose-built building that tells us how to behave. Being in a building created for another purpose has allowed us to adapt to the changing needs of our community. We have been able to develop nationally regarded craft festivals such as unravel which take over the whole building: we have presented contemporary theatre in innovative ways to attract new audiences and we’ve begun to test completely different types of events such as Bring Your Own Baby Comedy. Our strength is not just the buildings but the ambitions and purpose we have in filling them. We have become a hugely popular place to visit with over 400,000 people through the doors each year, resulting in us developing a regional and international reputation for who we are and the things we do. As an organisation we remain completely committed to contributing to the quality of life of all the people in our community. We could not do this without the thousands of people who have given their ideas, energy and affection into who we are now and we owe them a debt of thanks for everything they have done. My dearest hope, as I pass the leadership on to the next generation, is that Farnham Maltings will continue to adapt, play, surprise and contribute to the shape of our town in every way possible. Gavin Stride Director
