Amazing how another season is slipping by. Where were you? Don’t nap yet! We still have some great riding ahead of us before the real weather sets in. The leaves are turning and we are starting to see the leathers and gear, (broke ours out last week.) Big twin motors sure do love the cooler weather huh?! This winter gonna have to break down and get a new pair of gauntlets (any suggestions?) Stopped at one of those scenic overlooks the other day. While smoking a stoagie and enjoying the view i had a brief moment of clarity. My thought was “Hey most of us are still alive and well or at least still surviving, the economy didn’t completely fail and it looks like another cold winter ahead when most of us are still recovering from the last one! AndWow!, couldn’t see this far ahead just a few short months ago and already we are booking gigs and events for next season! With a positive mental attitude, basic economics (frugalism), some simple research, and careful planning, we had an awesome summer!” Check out this months ads for some excellent deals on products, and services, don’t forget the great parties. Ya know “Keep it in the Family!” We would like to thank all of you: “The Driving Force” along with the Advertisers: “The Backbone” for all the support, stories pics, adventures and just plain fun! Warriors Watch by Wayne “Rock” (of the Marne) Lutz pHOTOS BY Heather Salazar
Supporting our Nations Warriors Weapons and Teddy-Bears
At 0700 on a September Monday morning the Warriors’ Watch Riders rode to the airport to greet 303 of our nations’ warriors. The 303 were members of the 392nd Signal Battalion, coming home to Fort Dix after a combat deployment to Afghanistan. An arrangement between the USO, the Airport Police and the Army allowed us to roll our bikes right onto the tarmac to greet the huge charter plane carrying our soldiers home. In all, there were about 30 riders, several Army personnel, police and FBI, Customs Agents, six tour busses to carry the 303 soldiers and two 18-wheeler trucks to carry their equipment.
We lined up our bikes into a long chrome rank, and stood by them holding American Flags. The soldiers had an unimpeded view of the colors and chrome as the lumbering plane finally rolled to a complete stop almost at our feet. A stairway was rolled into position, and the door opened. Then the soldiers began to descend. Their unit commanders on this side, a Ltc. and a Command Sgt. Major, formed up with me and Bob Scott (one of the WWR Leadership) at the bottom of the stairs to begin the receiving line. All of our WWR and AHW members had an opportunity to shake the hands and to say “Welcome Home! 303 times, and it was glorious.
I also looked directly into 303 pair of eyes. I wanted to see, face-to-face, what manner of American it was that I was greeting there. Most of them were very young, but many were not. All of them looked fit; all of them looked very tired. And each one of them was carrying a ton of gear, including his or her weapon, a dangerous looking automatic rifle. A young female soldier came down the stairs carrying her weapon in her hands and a Teddy-Bear in her back-pack. I was struck by that contrast. America is asking much of very few. Some of these soldiers were returning from their second, third, fourth, and in one case even fifth deployment to harm’s way. Some of them are so young. The image of the young soldier clutching her weapon and her Teddy-bear made me glad that we were out here supporting these troops, because as citizens the best thing we can do for them is to let them know that they are supported here at home. I wish that every citizen of this country could have the experience of greeting 303 soldiers, one at a time, fresh from the war in Afghanistan. The very act of taking their hands in yours and looking, really looking, into their eyes teaches them and us. The solders learn that their country loves them. You learn what honor is, and what “hero” means. For more info please visit

Politics Biker Style By Charles Umbenhauer
Pennsylvania marked a decrease in the number of motorcycle crashes and fatalities in 2009. Total motorcycle crashes decreased 10.9% from 2008 while motorcycle fatal crashes decreased 15.6% from 2008. The reduction could be contributed to many factors, the bad economy, lowest motorcycle sales nationwide in a decade or the weather. Remembering last years riding season it seemed to rain almost every weekend. That certainly has not been the case this year. And with the improved weather comes an increase in motorcycle accidents and fatalities. I try to keep tabs of what’s happening locally when it comes to motorcycle accidents. This year there has been a number of tragic accidents highlighted by the one a few months ago which left 5 bikers dead and one seriously injured in Lancaster County. It appears that the accident was caused by a taxi driver who failed to control his blood sugar properly. Far too many times motorcycle accidents are caused by the other driver that fails to yield the right-of-way to the motorcyclist or claims they just did not see the biker. Then there is the other side of the coin. I recently read in the newspaper about a motorcyclist who was clocked doing 147 mph in a construction zone. This biker was 82 mph over the limit. The motorcyclist might be one of the fastest speeders caught in the mid-state according to Trooper Tom Pinkerton of the PA State Police.
These daredevils are riding on the edge and destined to become yet another fatality that will run up the statistics for 2010. After each of these incidents the ABATE office received calls requesting statements as to what is going to be done to slow down the accident rate. I have done a number of radio shows and numerous newspaper interviews this summer and just last week got invited to become part of a new York County motorcycle safety and awareness council that is being formed to deal with the problems. Quite frankly, I am not sure what can be done. Those who insist on speed and alcohol use while riding will continue to ignore the pleas of their peers and have total lack of regard for their family and friends who will be the ones left to pick up the pieces. There is still a few good weeks of riding this Fall. The fall brings with it other hazards that we have to watch out for. It will be getting darker earlier and leaves will be piling up which when wet can cause you to lose control. Slow down and think about how great it will be to be around for next years riding season. www.abatepa.org
He might have been fast but I have been passed several times this summer on the interstate by sport bikes not only exceeding the speed limit but pulling wheelies at the same time. Page 6

Where Were You? Adamson’s Susquehanna Cycle’s Open House August 14th I love to ride, and I love to eat! Adamson’s Susquehanna Cycle had their Open House on August 14th in Red Lion. The FREE food of BBQ beef, pork, pizza, chicken, corn on the cob, many other sides, and brewskies made for an awesome lunch! (Many tips were being placed in the bucket for good reason.) All of this was enjoyed with music by Nate Myers and the Aces. Wow, they can jam. The “Bikini Bike Wash Girls” looked cool in their matching Victoria’s Secret suits. Again, Mother Nature co-operated, and blessed us with perfect weather. I heard the crowd grew throughout the day. I had another event to cover this day, so my departure with Steve, and friends happened quickly, and not by choice. Adamson’s Cycle specializes in Champion Sidecars and Trikes. I found out first hand that Bob Adamson specializes in open houses as well. See You in the Fast Lane!

Learn to Play Winning Blackjack #101
For those who are not aware, the State of Pennsylvania will soon be offering table games at their Casino’s. One of the most popular table games at Casinos today is BlackJack. Although it seems to be a simple game, it is not. The house has the mathematical edge and you need to known how to approach each hand to even the odds. To help those of you who are looking forward to the table games to learn the skills and tricks of the trade,we will be featuring one article each month dealing with a different part of the game. Stay with it and in no time you’ll be playing like a PRO. For past articles or more info contact Blackjack101@FLBPA.com
Part 3
What is a Blackjack, or a Natural? A blackjack, or natural, is a total of 21 in your first two cards. A blackjack is therefore an Ace and any ten-valued card, with the additional requirement that these be your first two cards. If you split a pair of Aces for example, and then draw a ten-valued card on one of the Aces, this is not a blackjack, but rather a total of 21. The distinction is important, because a winning blackjack pays the player odds of 3 to 2. A bet of $10 wins $15 if the player makes a blackjack. A player blackjack beats any dealer total other than blackjack, including a dealer’s three or more card 21. If both a player and the dealer have blackjack, the hand is a tie or push. The dealer will usually pay your winning blackjack bet immediately when it is your turn to play. In the face down games, this means that you should show the blackjack to the dealer at that time. Some casinos may postpone paying the blackjack until after the hand is over if the dealer has a 10 card up and has not checked for a dealer blackjack. Other casinos check under both 10 and Ace dealer upcards, and would therefore pay the blackjack immediately. Regardless, when you are dealt a blackjack, turn the cards face up, and smile. It only happens about once every 21 hands, but it accounts for a lot of the fun of the game.
Watch another player at first to see how this works. The dealer will deal your additional cards on the table in front of your bet. Add them to your total hand value, but leave the actual cards on the table. If you go over 21, just toss the two cards in your hand face up on the table. The dealer will collect your bet, and discard your hand. When you decide to stand, you should tuck the two cards you are holding face-down under the chips that you have bet. This can be a bit tricky the first few times. Don’t pick up the bet to place the cards underneath. Remember, once the cards are dealt, you can’t touch the chips in the circle. Simply slide the corner of the cards under the chips. The descriptions are a lot tougher than the actual play. Just pay attention to what other players are doing and you’ll fit right in.
Doubling Down Among the more profitable player options available is the choice to “double down”. This can only be done with a two card hand, before another card has been drawn. Doubling down allows you to double your bet and receive one, and only one, additional card to the hand. A good example of a doubling opportunity is when you hold a total of 11, say a (6,5) against a dealer’s upcard of 5. In this case, you have a good chance of winning the hand by drawing one additional card, so you might as well increase The Player’s Choices Hitting/Standing The most common decision a player must make dur- your bet in this advantageous situation. Where Were You?
LAMAPALOOZA
So what does this mean? The definition is: Latin American Motorcycle Association Celebration. And WOW, what a celebration it was. LAMA York held it’s 10th Anniversary Lamapalooza at the Local 1872 UAW on September 4th. I was there, and so were a few hundred other bikers too. There are seven chapters of the LAMAS in PA alone. The areas covered, I was told, are: Bethlehem, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Poconos, Reading, and York. As I enjoyed meeting and making new friends among the crowd, I found myself reading plates from many States. I saw tags from Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. I was invited to the Reading Chapter’s 1st annual open house the next day. Unfortunately, I had another commitment. I ‘m sure that would have been a hell of a good time too. The LAMAS know how to through a party. Music heard throughout the grounds by the DJ made the event all the more fun. Many members busted their butts preparing fabulous food for such a large gathering. (I have a hard time cooking for two. Good thing I wasn’t in the kitchen. By the way..... I bought a new helmet sticker that day that reads “ I Don’t Cook, Who Cares.”) This Celebration was held from 12 noon until 11:00PM. Mark your calendars for next year if you want to join a fun motorcycle event. You have all day to get there. Some real close competition at the bike games was wildly amusing to witness. FLB is first and foremost a Biker magazine..... The biker community today is full of people from all walks of life. Lawyers, mechanics, doctors, carpenter, etc. Just average everyday people who share one common interest, the joy of riding a motorcycle and sharing their passion with other enthusiasts in publications like ours. But....we have also noticed that more and more "car shows" are incorporating cycles into the venue? Whats up with that!!!! Since June our photographer “Alicia” has attended tons of shows with some really amazing looking "cages & cycles." Have we just fallen off the Turmip Truck or is this the latest craze. There are plenty of motorcycles participating by registering their two wheel rides right along side of the four wheel rides. The shows are fun. They are no longer "just" car shows. Sooooo.... we decided to go along with Alicia’s great idea and start featuring these car and cycle shows & events. (she can be very perswasive) Look for the pages titled "Cages & Cycles” Kind-of like our Where Were You but in Blue.... . As always, you just might see your bike, or your buddy’s bike among the cages on these pages.:-) If you having a show or event and would like Alicia to come take some pics for our magazine you can contact us at flb@flbpa.com. Until then she will be Cruizin' in the Fast Lane!

“Cages & Cycles” A MID SUMMER’S NIGHT’S DREAM CAR & CYCLE SHOW
This is the name of the event the Sertoma Club of Lancaster calls this show. It was also the first year they held this show with motorcycles. The Twin Rose Lady Riders, Lancaster Honda, and many bikers that registered to win a trophy, made it an event that will keep us coming back. It was held at Longs Park in Lancaster on August 13th from 9 am-3pm. This main event is free to the public. The weather was terrific, as it has been all summer long! The trophies were handed out to many car and cycle winners. The trophies were also awarded by area businesses. The Sertoma Club’s website states that “Since its inception of February 15, 1952, the club has contributed over $2,000,000 and many hours to community projects.” This event is held every year.

MOOD OF THE MOMENT. Yeah, I’ve been talking gloom and doom about Pluto in Capricorn for years now and for months Saturn and Uranus have been square. It has all been happening and everything is right on schedule. It is Pluto time, but there are other sides of Pluto I would like to talk about. Pluto has to do with Transformation. Osho was a Pluto Master and most sannyasins have strong Pluto aspects in their charts. This energy is not a stranger to us and we are equipped to ‘handle it’, as much as anyone can, and to use it in the best possible way. Pluto also has to do with archaeology, war, crisis, death, terrorism, atomic bombs, oil and anything underground. These energies are all connected and the best possible archaeological sites are graveyards and where mass destruction has happened before. Discovery of an 18th Century sailing ship beneath the debris of the World Trade Center is incredibly archetypal. Profound new discovery of something very old will be made and maybe finally, finally we will have evidence of the world civilization that came before us. ARIES. Harmony on the outside with others or harmony on the inside within yourself. It’s a choice. Do your thing or do your duty. Run free with the wind blowing in your hair or get a haircut and look respectable. This is a time of dilemma between the ‘I’ and the ‘We’. You may feel stuck in your relationship now or take it for granted. There is a duality of feelings between heaviness and restless anticipation to expand. You may withdraw into your aloneness or unconsciously have an argument to break the tie TAURUS. You are genetically engineered to be comfortable and stable. But Now is not the time. Now is a Mars transit two different ways. It is about energy and adrenaline, action and adventure, power and passion. It is the primeval kundalini energy that makes life happen and the body to move. In relationship, it is about the pursuit with passion or flight or fight. In your work, you have the energy to get things done. In your spiritual life, it is good to do catharsis or moving meditation. Good to not move any part of your body any faster than you can stay aware. GEMINI. Unexpected, unpredictable, unknown and unexplained in-the-moment zen kind of time for you now. Nothing bad or painful particularly. Not even confusing. Nothing you have to be prepared for. Changes just speed up, that’s all. It is like someone pressed the button on the washing machine of your life that says “Spin and Tumble”. Nothing you have to solve. Just respond to what appeals to you and ignore or dodge the rest. Whatever you put your hands on now tends to slip and disappear through your fingers.
Page 24
LIBRA.. Sociability, charm and compromise are your hallmark and none of that is going to happen at this time. Saturn transit in Libra and a feeling to withdraw into yourself and be alone for awhile. Uranus opposite and relationships with others becomes unpredictable and everybody do their own thing. Pluto square all of this and it throws the spice of intensity and urgency into the whole puzzle. The paradox is that you will have lots of invitations to come out and play, but maybe there is a piece of work you want to do instead. SCORPIO. Back in the saddle again. From a feeling of inertia and being stuck in invisible mud to a feeling of the river flows again and the fruit of life is within your grasp to be picked. Mars transit in Scorpio one month a year gives you the energy to go and get whatever it is that you want. Venus transit in Scorpio means you won’t step on someone else’s toes to get it. Passion and romance are at a peak at this time and you may find yourself a little bit magnetically irresistible. SAGITTARIUS. It is rather unusual, but nothing happens for you during this time. Nothing happens to you, for you, at you, with you, under you or above. It is rather remarkable really. It has never happened before. No threat, no promise. No pain, no pleasure. No demanding, no delivery. No sorrow, no ecstasy. No awareness, no understanding, no ignorance. No arguments, no agreements, no promises. Nothing happens. Nothing. Like a ghost that doesn’t know it is a ghost, you pass through everything. Amazing.
CANCER. Security and attachment are correct for you, but how to do that in a changing world? Saturn and Uranus square Cancer now and Pluto opposition for many years to come. You are in for the long haul. It is going to take some time because the changes happening inside you now are to be permanent and profound. It is the final and most significant step in your evolution. It has to do with being in your center in the center of the cyclone and always, always feeling the presence of yourself. That is what attachment really is. LEO. The thing about you and money is that you are one of the few people who know how to spend it and what to use it for. Money is codified experience. Money is the ticket to get through the door of where you want to go. And with Uranus/Jupiter on the cusp of your solar 9th House, maybe you want to go somewhere far, exotic, fulfilling, different than you have been before. It is a good time for a long trip to expand your mind and consciousness. Go somewhere you have never been. Something different is the key.
CAPRICORN. Well, my friend, to be honest and true and to give the most practical advice that I can, it is a good time to bend over and kiss your sweet ass goodbye. Existence has played a good joke on you. You are genetically programmed to organize things into efficient structures that will last the eons of time. Yet, Existence itself is transitory, changing and nothing survives for very long. Most life on Earth is wiped out every 27 million years anyway. The best thing you can do is take care of yourself
VIRGO. Happy Birthday Beloved and many, many more. Now is the time to learn as much as you can so you can forget it all later when Neptune transit begins next year. People think knowledge and learning is a cumulative process that goes on and on until clarity is achieved. Not really. Clarity is not achieved until you drop the mind and you have to have something to drop. It is the dropping that gives you clarity, not knowing more and more. But you have to know more and more so that the dropping makes a bigger bang.
PISCES. There comes a time next year when you just don’t care about money anymore. It is just not on your mind. You have to write notes to yourself to remember to think about it as just one of those necessities that has to be done. The subject becomes the gap, the scotoma, the blind spot in your thoughts. That is why this is a good time to build yourself a nest egg and to be busy at your work to make as much of it as you can. The stars are right and the force is with you. It happens in unusual and unexpected ways.
AQUARIUS. It is your nature to be cool, calm, and detached, but this Neptune transit you have been going through since 1998 might have changed all of that. There has been a kind of swimming in the ocean of feelings of the collective unconscious and your intuitions are stronger than ever. So far it has been a generalized vague energy hard to define. Now, as the outside world becomes more clear, the paradox is the energy still turns to the inside world, but in a more intense and focused way with purpose and determination.

Where Were You? Alicia’s trip to DELMARVA BIKE WEEK BIKES, BOATS, BEACH, BARS, BULL RIDING, BANDS, AND BABES!! All this found at the 10th Annual DELMARVA BIKE WEEK FEST September 16-19th, with most of the activities held in Ocean City, Maryland. (Fast Lane Biker DELMARVA Magazine was there to cover all the action too. Go on-line and check out their magazine as well.) My Mom says she started bringing me and my sisters to OC since I was 1 year old. Ouch, you should see those baby pictures. Who would have thought back then, as a little girl, heading to the beach with my raft, that I would be heading down to the beach on my own, on two wheels? The adrenaline rush riding over the Bay Bridge gets me.... well you know the feeling. (I’ll keep it clean.) I headed out at 5:30 am Thursday morning 9/16, with my two girlfriends, Joanne and Deb. One rode, and one drove the support cage. (Someone had to haul the cooler, and extra stuff girls take on trips.) Winter Place Park was our first stop in Salisbury. We were there for hours soaking up the fun. Onward to OC passing the Police hiding in the trees, we made it without incident. After arriving at our condo, we headed back out and hit the town. Dead Freddies is where we found FLB DELMARVA’s welcome party. When in OC, you can’t just stay in one place. Dinner and more bar establishments were on the top of our list. Friday found us at the Harley Davidson Dealership buying apparel, and people watching. Do all “bikers” start to look alike after awhile? Not really. VIP parking was fantastic: “Just park her Alicia. Up front, on the grass”, I was told from the “STAFF”. No parking in “the field” with the common folk for us. LOL. Sorry, I just had to type that.

West OC was just as much fun as downtown. A few difficult decisions we had to make; was where to eat - only because I knew so many great places to go, and only a 4 day stay. Saturday was exciting! We got our pictures taken with Vinnie and Mikey of American Choppers. Too cool! We found them at the Hooter’s parking lot activities. That night we partied like rock stars. Well, kinda. You know what I mean. We closed a bar, and went for late night, early morning pizza. Biker Babe Alicia (BBA) and Friends made time to put on the bikinis, hit the beach, and play in the water. The weather was fantastic!! Next year’s plan is to head out of town early morning, or stay until Monday. The traffic was horrific coming home. BUT, it was fun talking to the other bikers riding beside me, in the same situation. I AM a “people person.” See You in the Fast Lane! Alicia BBA Helfrich York

ASK THE ATTORNEY By: Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com This months question is …”Does my health insurance policy discriminate against motorcycle accident related injuries vs. general injuries or illnesses?” The answer to this, like many questions I have previously addressed is … it depends on the specific policy, the coverages you have chosen and what State the policy originates in. Most standard BlueCross BlueShield and/or HMO policies, typically do not discriminate against motorcycle accidents and will pay for all or most of the care resulting from a motorcycle accident. However, the deductibles and co-pays vary widely from policy to policy and therefore I suggest that everyone familiarize themselves with their specific deductibles not only for their primary doctor and specialist, but also for emergency room, out-patient and in-patient hospital stays. A review of the policy may show the in-patient deductible might vary from $250.00 - $1,000.00 per day for each of the first five or more days that you spend in the hospital. Not withstanding the above, many employer supplied health insurance policies are actually self-funded or partially self-funded by the employer themselves. In this situation, the money to pay for the bills incurred is actually coming from employee contributions and the general assets of the employer. Typically with these types of plans the employer hires a subsidiary of the large insurance companies to act as a third-party administrator to handle the plan. These plans look and smell like more traditional plans but often have more exclusions and restrictions, as it is the employer who controls the plan. One major difference between an employer sponsored plan and a traditional health insurance plan is that virtually every employer sponsored plan has a “subrogation agreement” meaning that if they pay your medical bills, they will want most, if not all, of their money back should you recover from the person responsible for your accident. Lastly, I also see a variety of Union sponsored plans that also hire a third party to administrate their plan,. Unfortunately, these tend to be the most restrictive plans when it comes to the type of medical services they will pay for and are usually very strict in enforcing their “subrogation” language. The most restrictive of these plans that I have seen are generally New Jersey based. In many of the Jersey plans they restrict the type of treatment they will pay for if it is related to a motorcycle accident and I also recall seeing some plans that exclude paying for any treatment related to a motorcycle accident. It would be impossible to describe every plan in this column, as such, I urge each of you, to pull out your plan documents and spend a few minutes getting to know what, if any, coverage would be provided if you are involved in a motorcycle accident. Additionally, there may also be restrictions on where the treatment must be performed. The failure to comply with the restrictions in your health insurance plan, could end-up leaving you owing thousands of dollars in medical bills simply because you failed to follow the guidelines set forth in your plan. I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1888-292-5352).

Veggies / Salads:Spider Nest Salad Submitted by: Paula Haag, Pa. 2 small packages orange Jell-O 1 can medium crushed pineapple 3 bananas 1 cup pineapple juice 1/2 cup sugar 1 can mandarin oranges Water Cool Whip (sm. carton) 1 egg 1 Tbsp cornstarch Directions: Boil pineapple juice, egg, sugar, and corn starch. Cool and whip into cool whip. Dissolve jell-o in 2 cups boiling water. Add fruit. Refrigerate until thick. Spread topping over jello and grate cheese on top. Mummy Dogs Submitted by: Sammy Barnes, Pa. (8yrs. Old). Hot dogs Ready-made croissant dough Mustard and ketchup Directions: Cut the croissant dough into strips. Wrap hot dogs to look like mummies. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown. You can make faces with ketchup and mustard. Black Cat Cookies Recipe Submitted by: Amy Meece, Pa. 6 yrs old. 1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 3 teaspoons vanilla extract 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup baking cocoa 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 24 wooden craft or Popsicle sticks 48 candy corn candies 24 red-hot candies Directions: Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease baking sheets and set aside. (Do not use air-cushion baking sheet on these cookies, for best results.) In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Using hands, roll dough into 24 1 1/2-inch balls. Place balls 3 inches apart on baking sheets. Insert a wooden stick into each cookie (perpendicular to the baking sheet). Flatten cookie with a glass dipped in sugar (do not smash so flat and thin that the cookie won’t hold the stick properly; this should be a sturdy cookie). Pinch top edge of cookie to form ears, smoothing as you need to. For whiskers, press tines of a fork once into each side of cookie. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until cookies are set. Remove from the oven; immediately press on candy corn for eyes and a red-hot candy for a nose on each cookie. Remove to wire racks to cool. Makes 24.

“Cages & Cycles” MORE MOTORCYCLES NEXT YEAR Sixty-three year old Tom Royer, A.K.A. “Hot Rod”, started drawing pictures of hot rods at the age of eight. His passion for cars and motorcycles grew over the decades. He bought his first car at the age of eighteen, a 64 Chevy 327 Hi-Pro muscle car. He has 15 registered vehicles. “Hot Rod’s” life isn’t all about fancy cars and fun times. He lost his mother to Alzheimer’s Disease just two months before his daughter, Robin, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 40, two years ago. “Hot Rod” told me he loves when family and friends gather. So he decided to hold a “Family Event”, open to the public, featuring hot rods and motorcycles, on HIS property, in York. This was the 4th annual with all proceeds benefiting Alzheimer’s Disease and Breast Cancer. You should have seen the colorful display of homemade, powder coated trophies he awarded to the car and cycle winners. Totally awesome! In addition to the display of wheels there was a 50/50 raffle of $740.00. Congrats to Lew Rudacille for winning the pot. Lew donated some winnings right back to the cause. He also lost his wife to ovarian cancer one year ago. Swimming, hillbilly golf, horseshoes, volleyball, pork loin, deep fried turkeys, kettle corn on the cob, and much more was offered. “Now wait, there’s more.” Live music! I showed off my air guitar skills with the band 3rd Degree. You had to be there to see it for your own eyes. Next year’s event hopes to draw more cycles to the bike show portion. It was the first year 2 wheels were added to the fun. PEOPLE ATTENDED: 245 CARS REGISTERED: 30 BIKES REGISTERED: 10 (Many bikes were present, but didn’t register in time for an award.) It was a fantastic day even though I got teased about being “THE PRESS.” I hope I made some new friends. I’m sure of it. I can’t wait until the 5th annual. I ask you again. Have you attended a Charity event this summer? What are you waiting for? See You in the Fast Lane! Alicia “BBA” Helfrich York Page 46
