Fathers, Thank you. The men who mean so much to us, who are greatly responsible for who we are and who we are becoming. Thank you for having the courage to do what’s necessary to keep us out of trouble, for making us do the right thing, for helping us build our character, even when it makes us angry; Thank you for pushing us to do our best, even when you just want to love us. Thank you for being our protectors, for leading us through stormy times to safety, for making us believe that everything will be all right, and for making it so. Thank you for providing for us, for giving us food, clothing, shelter and other necessary and not so necessary material things, Thank you for unselfishly investing time and money in us, that you could have spent on yourself. Thank you for saving some energy for fun, for leading us on adventures to explore the outer reaches of ourselves, for making us laugh, for being our friend. Thank you for being our secure foundation, our rock, for holding on tight to us...until it’s time to let us go. Thank you… on this Fathers Day, to our role models, our heroes, our Fathers. Happy Fathers Day As always, Ride Safe

SUPPORTING OUR NATIONS WARRIORS BY WAYNE “rock” (of the marne) LUTZ

“Biker” Flag Etiquette

Bikers who fly the flag from their scoots often wonder how it should be done, what the proper order is. The short answer is, “it depends.” The longer answer is interesting, because it’s unique to motorcycles. First, how many flags are you flying? If it is only one, that one must be the American Flag. It is not strictly improper to fly some other flag from your bike, but it is customary and patriotic to make that flag Old Glory. On our motorcycles, if you fly more than just the American Flag, the American Flag should be on the left of the observer, or, another way to put it, on the MARCHING RIGHT, that is, the right side in the direction of travel of the vehicle. Same thing applies to car flags. If you drive a car with two different car window flags, the American Flag should be on the marching left, which is the driver's side, and the other flag (such as POW/MIA flag) on the right (passenger) side. Another issue that comes up in our troop support work; every now and then you will be asked by some well-meaning soul to sign a flag, an American Flag, for presentation to some person for some good reason. If such a request is made of you, please, don't do it. Writing anything on an American Flag is a gross violation of the Flag Code. Usually when I see this being done, and if it's too late (if it's already been signed by others), I will hold my tongue, because at least the intent is good. But I won't add my own name to such a one. If it's NOT too late, if I am to be the first to sign, then I will ask that it not be done and suggest alternatives, and in a similar situation you should do the same. For example, you could, after citing the flag code, suggest that a certificate be made up to accompany the flag and that the people involved should sign the certificate. There are lots of ways to make a special flag, one with some meaning behind it, well-presented. For example, I have a couple that were flown over Iraq for me, and those were presented in triangular flag boxes with accompanying certificates. This to me is the best way to do that. Another important issue that veterans and patriots deal with all the time: Wearing the Flag. Me, I have an American Flag Helmet. I have an American Flag face mask, and I have American Flag fingerless riding gloves. I know others who have American Flag shirts, jackets, and other items of clothing. (We are not talking about an item of clothing with an American Flag attached, printed or sewn, but an actual item of clothing which colors are the flag colors. Section 8d of the Flag Code reads: “The flag should never be used as wearing apparel." It also states that a “flag” is defined as anything that could reasonably be seen to represent the American flag, such as red-white-and blue striped napkins or paper plates.

Page 4

Face it, there are any number of things that carry the American Flag stripes and stars that shouldn't, and yet we love these things and display them proudly. On the 4th of July, don't you put out plats and cups and napkins with red-whiteand-blue imprints? (Then we wipe our mouths on the American-Flag colored napkins and throw them away. Not good.) And don't we all own some article of clothing that is red-white-and blue, like a tie or a jacket or a purse or something? To my mind, so long as the intent is a patriotic one, as it usually is, then it's ok by me. Don't misunderstand, I am not being so arrogant as to assume I can rewrite the Flag Code. But I can try to justify the things I myself have and do! For example, here is a photo General Richard Myers, USAF, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs under President Bush after 9-11. General Meyers in this photo is arriving with his wife at Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C. In 2002. I don't know about you, but to me, that is all the “permission” I need to wear my patriotic American Flag clothing. I have absolutely no doubts whatsoever about the patriotic intent behind General Myer's wearing of an American Flag jacket – ON A HARLEY. To me, intent is a vital part of any question about flag use. While every one of us should strive to adhere to the Flag Code as closely as we possibly can, we also have to recognize that there will be times when we deviate from that code slightly, but with the best of intentions and patriotic cause. For complete information on flag etiquette, see the Warriors’ Watch Flag page at www.warriorswatch.org/flag

FYI-On June 14, Theodore Roosevelt was dining outside Philadelphia, when he noticed a man wiping his nose with what he thought was the American Flag. In outrage, Roosevelt picked up a small wooden rod and began to whip the man for “defacing the symbol of America.” After about five or six strong whacks, he noticed that the man was not wiping his nose with a flag, but with a blue handkerchief with white stars. Upon realization of this, he apologized to the man, but hit him once more for making him “riled up with national pride.” Page 5

Where were you? It was a “FREE RIDE.” (Donations accepted) The York Motorcycle Club (YMC), which was established in 1940, held their 15th Annual Moul Motorcycle Charity Poker Run. This ride was rain or shine on May15th from 9am-2pm. All the proceeds benefited the Margaret E. Moul Foundation. The first 200 riders were given free event pins. Bikers rolled off YMC’s parking lot in the dreary weather. By the time many returned, the sun was shining. Breakfast was served from 8-11am for only $4.00 per person. Lunch was held 12-2pm. Vendors, door prizes, games of chance, and a silent auction were part of the fun. “D.J. Rick” kicked out the jams. Don’t miss next year’s charity poker run. It’s for a great cause, and a lot of fun. Where were you? “I found myself on the side of the road cleaning duck feathers and organs from my bike.” My trip to Ocean City Maryland’s first Spring annual “Bikes to the Beach” literally started out “Fowl.” I headed out in the rain, thunder, and yes lightning on Thursday, April 28th. I decided to take the back roads. You know, the scenic route to OC instead of the highways and bay bridge route which I’m a custom to riding when heading to the Eastern Shore. One hour into my ride, as the school buses and farmer’s trucks were spraying me, the rain started to let up. I’m in the zone cruising along, enjoying the challenge of the road and conditions. I see two ducks in the distance walking on the other side of the road. As an oncoming car was speeding, it came upon these two duck’s ass’s which startled them. The male duck flew over my head just missing my helmet, as the female duck wasn’t so lucky. Her radar was definitley off as she flew directly into the left side of my ride. As she stuck between my peg and shifter, I calmly made my way to the side of the road in disbelief, that I had a duck wrapped around my foot. I managed to get her loose as I pushed her through my engine guard as I was coasting on the shoulder of the road. (I couldn’t shift.) It was too late. She gave one last quack and went to duck heaven. I found myself on the side of the road cleaning duck feathers and organs from my bike for 20 minutes. I could only imagine what the Amish man in his buggy was thinking as he and his horse trotted past me and my horse. Page 32

Arriving in Lewes, DE, I stripped off my rain gear, and got breakfast. I didn’t see many bikers as I rolled in OC MD. This rally made its debut on Friday, April 29th to Sunday, May 1st, and it was only Thursday. After visiting my girlfriend who lives in OC, I got settled in. I strolled the deserted boardwalk. What an eerie feeling that was for the first time, without the summer crowds. Friday I headed out to the first host location: Hooper’s Crab House in West Ocean City. I was thrilled to meet and pose for pictures with Michael Ballard and Angie Carlson of the Full Throttle Saloon reality TV show, and to get a t-shirt signed. The weather was great and the bikes started roaring in. Live music was heard from the stage and vendors were found as I walked around. Riders were seen registering for the three day bike tour. Participants received a t-shirt and mug to take along with them to the 25 bars and restaurants that participated in this ride. It was a great day! I was at the beach, ran into friends I knew, and I was covering another bike fest doing what I love the most; meeting people and riding. The evening was just as fun as I patronized many food and beverage establishments. AKA: Bars. Saturday and sunshine! I headed out to the other Host location of this Bikes to the Beach event. The Oasis Bar and Grill in Whaleyville. This was the place to be. The parking lot was packed. I got the feeling everyone knew the International Bikini Team Contest Finals were being held here. Wall to wall bikers is how I describe the attendance. Full Throttle’s Michael and Angie were judges among a few lucky guys Page 33

who showed up early to sign up to be judges as well. Music, food, beer and orange crushes were flowing as I enjoyed all this excitement. What’s a biker event without vendors? No worries here. It was another shopping excursion for me. Thumper’s Leather Biker Apparel and More was there and they had a great display of biker goods, and of course I got a really sexy top from their booth. www.thumpersleather.com (See their ad in our magazine.) As I pulled out of the lot, the sun was beating on me, I was feeling great, and my thoughts were to hit some other places downtown OC before retiring to my hotel. Accomplishing all of this and enjoying cruising down Coastal Highway, it felt magical as my bike lit up with my new “show lights.” Thanks Guys. I can’t say Sunday came fast, because it didn’t. I took time to walk the beach in my bare feet before throwing on those riding boots and hitting the road back home. I really hope there will be a 2nd annual Bikes to the Beach. It was a fun time, and a great start to the riding season! This fest was just “ Ducky!” See You in the Fast Lane! Alicia BBA Helfrich York

MOOD OF THE MOMENT. When it rains it pours. As I write this March 11, Japan has suffered an 9.0 earthquake with 30 foot high tsunami waves. Bali got a 6.5 and reports from Taiwan say the ground is shaking all day and all night. Something like 11% of Japan’s 55 nuclear reactors having radiation problems. This is an Awakening of the Rim of Fire and is a perfect metaphor for Uranus moving into the sign of Aries exactly on that day. This combination of planet and sign is an explosive, reckless energy that affects both planet and personality. When Uranus goes square Pluto, the disruptions and changes intensify. They come within one degree of each other this summer of 2011 and are exactly square each other the summer of 2012. The handwriting has been on the wall for a long time now. The Maya say we are in the 5th World Age. The Hopi say we are in the 4th. It is a natural cycle of civilization. The more advanced we become, the more vulnerable we become. Not a problem, just a fact.

ARIES. You are the power house of the Universe anyway and now you intensify. There are no bounds and there are no limits. This is a most significant time in your life. No compromise and no prisoners taken. You become the person you were born to be or you die in the attempt. Break your bonds and break your chains. Break your routine and break your habits. Break anything that keeps you in a box. Your own Individuality is within your grasp now and you will have the power and resources to carry through. TAURUS. Happy Birthday Beloved. The first stage of your energy during this period is to really, really go deeply, completely into your no-mind unconscious intuition where words and proper nouns have no pull and cannot grab you. Absolutely the best time for meditation in May because in June your energy comes out into the world again in a very loving way. It is a kind of love that shows itself in appreciation for what you have and a forgetfulness for what you have lost. It is a kind of love that is the vital ingredient of the greatest achievement of all achievements…..contentment GEMINI. Also Happy Birthday my smiling friend, the friendliest creature ever born of all human creatures. You are having a problem of abundance. This is such a time of meeting friends for you that you may not have time for them all. Friendship overload. You are the messenger, but the paradox is that this is not the time to know yourself what the message is. Your goals, objectives and purpose are unclear and unknown. No problem. You don’t need to know. Just keep communicating. Keep smiling. Talk to us.

LIBRA. Love comes, love goes. Love stays, love leaves. Love for the many, love for the one. Love comes in all shapes and forms and tastes and all the colors of the rainbow. Sometimes it is so pitch black you cannot see and other times it is so bright you cannot see then either. What to do. Love is always there, but you are not. It is an undefinable, unpredictable, always unexpected quality of life that we are here on this Earth for. This is the story of your life at this time. Relationships become complicated. Uranus opposite your sign for the next 7 years means each person has to relate through their Individuality SCORPIO. The impulse for self perfection is strong inside you now. You have had enough of living stupid in this life and the urge to eliminate your faults and bad habits to uncover the gold is strong in you now. Uranus in your 6th House now indicates the best strategy for eliminating your faults is to not do that. Do not eliminate them. Change them. Use their strengths and advantages in another way, in the right context. Like an opponent in Tai Chi, you use the momentum of their rushing at you to help them go another way.

CANCER. Your life is about achievement and struggle now. Time to work hard, very hard, without much nourishment from the outside. Time to find that power within yourself to climb to the highest peak. Just the foothills will not do. Tackle the impossible and you will feel the touch of it in your hand. Reach for the sky and you will be breathing in the clouds. Fear is not your enemy but gives you strength. Deprivation is not a problem because it shows you the abundance you have forgotten you will always have.

CAPRICORN. Which comes first, the Home or the Work? Your life is about the Work, but you need a Home to do that. Or do you? This is a time to find out how free you can make yourself to follow the work. Jobs are stationary, but The Work is mobile and flowing here and there and then and now. You need to be free to follow your work, not your job. The Work is the most important objective for you now and in the most intense possible way. The joke is that when you finally reach the mountain top, there may or may not be a comfortable place to sit down.

LEO. You have the potential for understanding your higher purpose and the meaningfulness of your life now at this time than at any other. Not a good time to sit at home and turn on the tube. Better time to travel to a far, far place to discover what you carry with you always but cannot see at home. Good idea to take this trip even if you can be gone just a short, short time. Take the ticket and take the trip and get in touch with your beliefs and presumptions. Write them down. Altogether, they point to a single, all encompassing Truth for you. VIRGO. Welcome to the Gap. Mind the Gap please. This is gah gah time as Neptune goes into Pisces opposite your sign. Neptune dissolves everything material that it touches. It dissolves the ego, it dissolves the mind. In everyday life it is called confusion, but what it really is, is a reunification of the spiritual with the source. It is going to be an intense reunification with the primeval sexual energies of all the planets in the 8th House arousing the kundalini and the forces of life energy itself. It is a tantric time. It is a mystical time.

AQUARIUS. It is a communicating, communicating time for you now and learning, learning basic information good for you to know. It is people you talk to who give you this information and the best people to be talking to are your friends and neighbors and and brothers and sisters in your life. Everyone of them is a piece of the puzzle. This is a time for Awareness and Awakening, not Enlightenment. A&A happens in little ways talking, listening to little people who carry a bigger truth than they know. Re-new your connections to these people and see what you find. PISCES. My heart goes out to you Pisces folks. My Capricorn part has always wondered and worried about you making it across a busy street. It seems like you don’t know who you are or where to go or what to say, but somehow you make it through life just fine. Pisces doesn’t have the biggest ego the gods ever made. That is why you have one foot on Earth and one foot in the Other Dimension and you are so incredibly kind. Neptune is the planet ruler of Pisces and Neptune has just gone into Pisces for the first time in 165 years. What is left of your ego melts away during the next 14 years and only All-Is-One is left.

Page 36

SAGITTARIUS. If you weren’t so lucky, you would be dead on a rusty fish hook by now. You have taken so many risks and unknowns in your life and now the planets are saying ‘Do More’. And even though you are a friendly person, you do it alone. Group tours take the spirit out of Adventure and whatever takes the spirit out of Adventure takes the spirit out of you. Your life has always been more than a spiritual journey. It is about having a Spiritual Adventure. Time to take that risk again. No risk, no Adventure.

Where were you? Where Were You? Appalachian Harley Davidson held their 1st annual “RIDE UNITED” on Saturday, May 14th. So what do you think the weather was like for their event? You guessed it, rain. Are we ever going to have a full week of sunshine? I’m sure it’s on its way. The rain didn’t stop many bikers from attending this ride which benefited United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County. Registration was from 9:00-10:00 am. Each rider rode through 3 counties and had to stop at 5 out of 7 stops with their raffle ticket in hand to get punched. The Guardian Knights of Central PA were participants. Road Captain, Jim, said when they started out at 10 am it wasn’t raining. Though by the looks of him, and the other members, who were proud to show me their wet pants, it looked like the rain hit hard during their ride. Jim stated “the ride took them approximately 4 hours, and it was for a good cause.” Food, entertainment, and a raffle greeted the riders on their return visit to Appalachian HD. ASK THE ATTORNEY By: Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING Not long ago, I received a video-tape showing a client’s accident as it took place. The video came from a bank surveillance camera and was obtained by the police who investigated the accident. The video wasn’t much help because it was shot from to far away to show who was at fault, but it proved what I have suspected for many years, that many of our actions are being recorded by security cameras without our knowledge or consent. While hoping not to sound too paranoid, I actually assume that when I am in a commercial area, I am being recorded. Although I don’t change my behavior, this “invasion of privacy” has become a reality. Making matters worse, rarely does a day goes by that we don’t read about some company tracking our movements through our computers, GPS systems or cell phones, intentionally or not. Add to the list, the hackers who steal information, and the personal information that many of us intentionally put on the internet through networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc., and you can begin to understand that our private lives are becoming more public every day! Those who read my columns know that I advocate curtailing any discussions about an accident, or any private matter, on the internet or through e-mail. As proof that I am not being overly cautious, some defense attorney’s are now requesting Facebook passwords in order to obtain information about accident victims. Whether the Courts will allow this invasion of privacy, remains to be seen. Additionally, employers and college admission boards are searching networking sites to learn more about potential candidates. Further, I recently read about attorneys who are googling or Facebooking potential jurors right from the court room to learn more about them. No longer is justice blind, it’s now powered by Google! The bottom line is, we have all become accustomed to putting personal information on the internet and in texts, e-mails, etc. – without thinking about the potential consequences. Therefore, my advice is simply - DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN WRITING – BE IT IN A TEXT, E-MAIL or ON THE INTERNET, that you want kept private, because inevitably if some one looks hard enough – they may find these communications. If you want to discuss something sensitive ….. use the phone! On another note, the PA Supreme Court recently decided in the case of AYERS v. GEICO that even if you insure your automobiles and motorcycles with the same insurance company and select the “stacking” option, if the insurer issues separate policies for each and the auto policy contains a “household vehicle exclusion”, you will not be able to stack your uninsured or underinsured coverages from your cycle policy onto your auto policy. I was cautiously optimistic that the Court would allow the “stacking” of these coverages because both of the vehicles were insured with the same company, thereby denying the auto insurer’s ability to argue that they didn’t know about the cycle. A similar case was decided about a year ago, wherein the Court held that if the cycle and the auto were insured with separate companies, they would not be allowed to stack coverages, reasoning that the auto insurer did not know that their customer also owned a motorcycle and therefore was unable to take into account the risk of a motorcycle accident. However, in Ayers, it was the same company and that argument certainly would not apply. However, the Supreme Court in a 4 to 3 decision, held against the motorcyclist and in favor of the insurance company. (anyone surprised by this result…) Currently, the only company that I know of that allows the stacking of both motorcycle and automobile policies in PA is State Farm. This stacking option does not apply in either New Jersey or Delaware as neither state allows for the “stacking” of benefits. I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

got strep? Know the signs of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep

Sometimes when children present with difficult behaviors they are given a mental health diagnosis without considering whether an infection might be the root cause of the disorder. When the child’s behaviors are the result of strep antibodies attacking the basal ganglia of the brain, the condition is known as PANDAS: Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep. Once the condition is triggered by strep, subsequent exacerbations can be caused by other bacteria or viruses such as the flu. Here are some of the symptoms of PANDAS.

▢ Obsessive-compulsive behaviors: can include repetitive behaviors, excess fear nnnof germs, hair pulling and eating disorders ▢ Motor and verbal tics (Tourette’s) ▢ ADHD symptoms (hyperactivity, inattention, fidgety) ▢ Separation anxiety (child is “clingy” and has difficulty separating from his or her ccccaregivers ▢ Mood changes (irritability, sadness, emotional swings) ▢ Sleep disturbance ▢ Nighttime bedwetting and/or daytime urinary frequency ▢ Fine/gross motor changes (e.g. changes in handwriting) ▢ Joint pains
