supporting our nations warriors By wayne “rock’ (of the marne) lutz

photos by Dennis Jolly

THE WWR: A “FORCE MULTIPLYER”

The WWR is a national troop-support group, but here in Pennsylvania we are thin in the middle and western parts of the state. We could use your help. If you’ve never used your motorcycle to escort a homecoming American Warrior you are missing out on the chance to have a direct, positive impact on America’s Fighting Forces. Here’s how: At the conclusion of a recent escort of 113 troops coming “home,” I met a Command Sergeant Major at a large East Coast military installation who expressed a deep appreciation for what we had done for these troops. It is sometimes easy, especially when you do this time after time, to begin to forget just how powerful an impact you have on the troops you greet and escort when they come home. We do not do what we do to be thanked - the opposite, what we do is to thank them. But it is nonetheless gratifying to see that the very people who we exist to honor recognize what we are doing for them. Later that evening I sent an email to this CSM and his response to me left me feeling invigorated and recharged. He spoke of things that I have been saying for years - things about the power of what we do when seen, again and again, in the news or elsewhere, by the American Public. I have said many times that in this day of instant electronic communication the images of our welcomes fly around the world before the riders even get home. Emails are sent by the troops to their friends and family. Within hours of a welcome home mission, military men and women who are still in harm’s way see these images and hear these stories and that gives them the certain knowledge that they are supported by us, the American Public. This knowledge gives them heart and it gives them comfort in dark times that lie ahead of them. The WWR Vision Statement speaks of our desire to inspire the public - by our example - to remember our troops and to support them just as we support them. The CSM I met saw this too. He wrote: “Your actions and message resonate with the American public and definitely impact the fighting force!” (Emphasis mine). That is the very goal that I have been expressing - to have a direct positive impact on the moral of our nation’s troops through the sight, images and stories of our welcome home escorts. The CSM also wrote about you: “I have witnessed firsthand the impact of positive National Will. Your Riders my friend, are a shining example of National Will and a force multiplier. The Warriors’ Watch Riders are making an awe-inspiring contribution to our Warriors.” And that speaks directly to the “Vision” of the WWR - to bring about change in our culture as it relates to the public perception of our American Warriors, to put military men and women on equal footing with sports stars, movie stars, and other celebrities - to have an impact on the National Will. That is what you do, that is what your work achieves, your time and your sacrifice, and it is perhaps the most noble thing you will ever do as a civilian. If you want to be a part of this, just email me, and we’ll get you rolling, so that you too can be a “force multiplier!” Page 4

Politics biker style by charles umbenhauer a.b.a.t.e. Spring has sprung and bikes are out there on the highway. Start watching for the yellow and black yard signs stating “Watch for Motorcycles. The signs are made available by the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program and distributed by ABATE of PA. ABATE is working with the MSP to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. Back in 2003 ABATE successfully lobbied to increase the funding for the Motorcycle Safety Program by increasing the surcharge on motorcycle permits and licenses from $2 to $5 annually. This increased funding made it possible for PennDOT to increase the number of sites where motorcycle training is available. Each year ABATE of PA recognizes deserving individuals and organizations at their Leadership and Legislative Seminar. For 2010 the Contributing Organization Award was presented to the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program. Dave Surgenor, state coordinator accepted the award at MSP headquarters in York on behalf of the Program. ABATE also recognized the PMSP for establishing the MSP to teach riders of all skill levels the basic fundamentals needed in order to safety operate a motorcycle by training 381,599 students since its inception in 1985. New this year is a three wheeled motorcycle basic rider course which will be offered in Butler, Lehigh and York Counties. PennDOT introduced the new course due to the increasing popularity of three wheeled motorcycles and the unique safety concerns these vehicles present. The twelve hour course includes four hours of classroom instructions and eight hours of practical riding experience. Students must provide their own three wheeled motorcycle and protective gear. This year ABATE working with Representative Rick Geist, Chairman of the House Transportation Committee has introduced House Bill 563. This legislation will amend Title 75 to limit the civil liability for property owners who allow their land to be used for the PennDOT authorized motorcycle safety education program. This is an ABATE priority bill this session. Once again ABATE of PA is taking the lead in helping to make the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program the best in the nation.

Where were you?

Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza

Heads up! There’s a new Promoter in town, and their event rocked! “Motorcycle Extravaganza Inc.” promoted the Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza held in Allentown at the Fairground’s Agricultural Hall on March 19-20th. They know how to put on a great show for the whole family. Their one of a kind motto “This show does not cancel for any reason” brought everyone out of hibernation for the weekend with 75 degree weather and plenty of sunshine (are they that good that they control the weather?), It sure seemed that way because the next day it snowed!!!!. I was thrilled to be part of a new tradition, as this show will be held twice a year! The hard work performed by the staff paid off, and shined. Excitement was found inside the 60,000 sq. ft. facility on nearly every hour on the hour. The crowd gathered as the tattoo contest got underway. The Body is certainly a canvas. You name a body part, and it was most likely covered in ink. From head to heels, and knuckles to knees the artwork displayed on these contestants was like no other. You needed an experienced, professional to judge this contest, and Motorcycle Extravaganza had just that person! The famous “Tattoo Tony” from New Jersey was eyeballing each original design as the competitors rolled up a sleeve or shirt. In addition to the attractive display of artwork, the winners were handed a beautiful, heavy, glass trophy statue. The statues were out of this world, and packed in their own special box. At one point the crowd started reminding the winners “don’t forget your box!” (You had to be there.) Ink was slinging at Tattoo Tony’s booth. Tony has left his mark on many celebrities. Check out his sites. www.undermyskintat2.com and www.tattootonyshardtea.com Let me talk about the many vendors, too numerous to mention that were at this show. They were all very friendly and helpful. If you couldn’t find something to bring home, it was your own fault. Did you find yourself saying “I should have bought it?” Maybe you won’t think twice next time. From leather goods and riding apparel, Attorney booths, new and used swap meet parts, to tin signs, t-shirts, toys, sunglasses, helmets and more, it was all here. You could have gotten a massage from my friend Bonnie. It wasn’t until late Sunday Page 12

afternoon that she had an open spot for me, and man did I need it. There was so much to see and do in these 2 days I was a busy girl, and the massage felt great. Many people enjoyed getting their picture taken at the Fast Lane Biker PA magazine booth, while posing on a bike builder’s creation. You can walk away with your photo on the cover of the magazine! The little kids loved it, and so did the big kids. Thank you, to the custom bike builders who rolled their cycles over to the booth for all this fun and excitement. The bike builders came from near and far. Penn Jersey Cycles, Keystone Choppers, Death Row Motorcycles, MCS Customs, JT Cycles, Brass Knuckle Cycles, Iron Hawg Custom Cycles, Jac’d Customs and Custom Auto & Cycle. Live music was heard both days from the Crabby Bums while door prizes and $400.00 in raffle gift certificates were drawn. Speaking of live music- we would like to thank the famous band “Cold” and “Oceans Divide” for their guest apperance and for joining Motorcycle Extravaganza at their Vendor Gathering for a night to remember!!! The bike show also drew some tough competition. It just blows my mind to see the love and dedication everyone puts into their rides. I know my bike gets that special attention. Again, the trophy statues handed to the bike show winners were a piece of art. Gorgeous Eagles with a wing span sat on top of an engraved base. These were presented along with first place money for each category. The Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza is by far going to be a bi-annual event you don’t want to miss. I watched cars, trucks, cycles, and even a transportation bus full of guys pull into the free parking lots. Children under 12 years of age had a free admission. This show was sponsored by Rider Insurance and Fast Lane Biker PA Magazine. Special thanks to the Paper Shop for their combined Gift Certificate Givaway and to Off the Wall, NJ for their fantastic looking trophies. To 99.9 the Hawk and 107 the Bone, Tattoo Tony and All the Models-Holly,Jenn, Trish,Heather & Amy. Motorcycle Extravaganza also donated A percentage of proceeds to P.A.N.D.A.S. research, and cans of food brought to the show benefited to Second Harvest Food Bank. Motorcycle events and riding season is upon us, and I say Amen! I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to know I already have a winter event marked on my calendar. The Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza show will be held again at the Agricultral Hall, Allentown Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania December 10th & 11th so Mark your calendars. www.Mextrava.com Until then, look for me this summer. I love when our readers stop me and say hi! I’ll be everywhere. Will you? See You in the Fast Lane! Alicia Helfrich (BBA) York

humor in the fast lane Compiled by the Chief

All jokes are submitted by our readers. We dont know where they came from or who wrote them. Just enjoy!! IDIOT SIGHTING:

My daughter and I went through the McDonald’s take-out window and I gave the clerk a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said, ‘you gave me too much money.’ I said, ‘Yes I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar back.’She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the quarter, and said ‘We’re sorry but they could not do that kind of thing.’ The clerk then proceeded to give me back 75 cents in change. IDIOT SIGHTING: We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a ‘large’ enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, ‘Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower.’ I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4 and he said, ‘NOOO, it’s not. Four is larger than two.’We haven’t used Sears repair since.

A lady goes on vacation to Barbados ...... Upon arriving, she meets a black man, and after a night of passionate love making she asks him, “What is your name?” “I can’t tell you” the black man says. Every night they meet and every night she asks him again what his name is and he always responds the same, he can’t tell her. On her last night there she asks again, “Can you please tell me you name?” I can’t tell you my name because you will laugh at Me. “ says the Black man. “There is no reason for me to laugh at you,” the lady says. “Fine, my name is Snow!” the black man replies. And the lady bursts into laughter; the black man gets mad and says, “I knew you would make fun of it”. The lady replied, “I’m not making fun of your name. I’m thinking of my husband who won’t believe me when I tell him that I had10 inches of Snow everyday in Barbados !” Page 26

It’s late fall and the Indians on a remote reservation in South Dakota asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, ‘Is the coming winter going to be cold?’ ‘It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,’ the meteorologist at the weather service responded. So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. ‘Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?’ ‘Yes,’ the man at National Weather Service again replied, ‘it’s going to be a very cold winter.’ The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find. A weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again. ‘Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?’ ‘Absolutely,’ the man replied. ‘It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we’ve ever seen.’ ‘How can you be so sure?’ the chief asked. The weatherman replied, ‘The Indians are collecting a shitload of firewood Sally was driving home when she saw an elderly Navajo Indian woman walking on the side of the road. She stopped and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride. With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car. Resuming the journey, the Navajo woman noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally. 'What in bag?' asked the old woman. Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, 'It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.' The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said

'Good trade.....'

munity while continuing to build racing engines and doing custom fabrication on customer’s bikes. Andy Simon quickly gained a reputation as the go to guy when it came to high performance. So much in fact, almost every v-twin based NHRA Pro-Stock motorcycle team was running one of Simon’s lower ends in their engine. When Andy decided to re-open a full time shop, he chose his hometown of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania to do it. Most of the shops around Andy are now owned by former employees of Simon’s Performance Center. Although most of these people are still trying to ride the coat tails of Andy’s old shop, there is still only one Andy Simon. Andy created the very popular performance packages from years ago, and he continues to make some awesome cutting edge performance packages and products for today’s Harley-Davidson’s. Simon’s Competition can handle all of your motorcycle parts and accessory needs as well. They can do everything from a simple oil change, factory scheduled maintenance, tire replacements, brakes, parts, accessories, to everything under the sun in the line of high performance work. Oh, and when it comes to fuel injection tuning, Andy Simon is at the top of the list! There hasn’t been a fuel injection problem yet that Andy hasn’t been able to fix. Another useful piece of equipment in the shop is the DynoJet Dyno. Customers come from all around the country to have Andy tune their motorcycle and solve problems with tuning issues. They are equipped with a full machine shop on the premises. Andy also does custom welding and fabrication for your one off custom needs. The next time you are in need of some high performance work for your Harley-Davidson, there is only one name you need to know… Andy Simon at Simon’s Competition. He is the original, often imitated, but never ever duplicated! For more information call Simon’s Competition at 215-269-5010. www.simonscompetition.com Page 31

April astro-deepak@usa.net www.astronlp.com skype: drdeepakvidmar You are more than just your Sun Sign. You are your Rising Sign and all the other planets also. You are many parts and some of them cooperate with each other and some of them are at war. Each planet is a part of us that has its job to do. Some planets hurt, but they can have a good result. Other planets feel good, but can have an unpleasant result. It is the contradiction that creates the friction that creates life. So it is Pluto time for the world and particularly for us. Pluto has to do with death and power, dictatorships and police states, surveillance and survival. It has to do with catastrophe and consciousness, trauma or transformation. When it is square Uranus back and forth 2012‒2015, we can expect sudden explosive events all over the world, either natural or man-made. In Human Design, it is about the Truth. Truth is found on the dark side, not in the light. To know the Truth we need to look again at what we have swept under the rug, the secrets we have suppressed in the shadows, to strip away the superficial until we get to the marrow of the bone. It is going to hurt in order to heal. For us as individuals, the following responses to a Pluto transit are possible: run and hide; denial; collaboration; bystander syndrome; stand and fight. Possible responses according to your sign are below. Remember to read your Ascendant because it is also true. Your Sun sign is just the screen and the Ascendant is the movie on the screen that you see. You are many parts. Pluto’s positive intention is to give you power. The way it does that is to knock you down to your knees. It is not a punishment.. It is an opportunity. If you stand up again, you have learned. You are empowered. If you don’t stand up again, if you play like the victim, you are dead meat on a rusty fish hook. Where it hits you is where your strength is. Therein lies your weakness. Your weakness is where your strength is and your strength is your weakness. It is your strengths you have come to rely upon and it is Pluto’s job to take away anything you have relied upon. It is about survival. Pluto gives you the traumas of life to give you practice in learning how to survive the coming of crisis. There is something in us that lives forever. It is never born and it never dies.

CANCER. Read all you can and listen all you can and acknowledge that gut level feeling of your emotions to understand what is going on in the world outside your home. Use the month of March to get the big picture and then in April take on the role of a mother hen and gather all the chicks together to protect them from the big bad wolf outside the door. Your gift and strength is in the nurturance of the ones you love. That is your weakness and it is your loved ones that the Pluto wolf will consume. Their pain is your pain and there is no choice. It is your way.

LIBRA.. In March is the time to take care of your health and eliminate bad habits. In April is the time to experience relationships in a new way. Your normal tea and cookies superficial chit chat socializing will no longer work. Forcing people into harmonious ‘let’s all behave and be nice’ will no longer work. Good manners are not going to work. Your strength is imposing your will on others to make them compromise and get along. Therein lies your weakness. Pluto knows no compromise. It will not surrender and it will not stop and it will not be nice. It will have its way, not yours. SCORPIO. . In March is the time to be creative and take risks. In April is the time to learn from your mistakes and perfect your techniques. Mistakes are useful to you now or else you will not know what to make better. Your strength of laser beam focusing will be challenged now because Pluto is just as good at hiding and camouflage as you are. You may be focusing on a false flag operation and be led astray to the wrong target. Your strength of looking into the faults and weaknesses of others is your weakness now. You will find no worthy allies and you fight alone. SAGITTARIUS. . In March is a good time to nail your roaming feet to the floor and call it home. In April is a good time to realize that home is an illusion and there is no security to be found anywhere. There is no resting place and there is no refuge and the oasis in the desert you have been looking for was filled up with sand before you started the journey. Your strength is in your self confidence that from wherever you jump, you will land on your feet. Therein lies your weakness. Pluto will devalue you and destroy your self esteem. Just one nanosecond of hesitation the next time you jump and you land on your head. CAPRICORN. . Normally you are one of these self sufficient types who carry their own maps so you don’t have to ask anyone which way to go. In March is a good time to ask and what you should be asking is, “Which way is Home?”. In April is a good time to be there and dig your roots in as if it is permanent. It won’t be permanent, but you have to try anyway. Your strength is your work in the world, but that has always been dependent on others and the respect and recognition they give. Therein lies your weakness. Nothing you do now will be good enough.

LEO. Time to be like a silent submarine in March and to go into the dark depths to see what lurks on the ocean floor. Time to sneak into the shadows to find out where the light is coming from. In April you will know the truth, the meaning behind it all, and you will lead the rest of us out of the wilderness. Your strength is in love of self and pride of being and you will be judged harshly and persecuted for daring to speak out. Persevere and you will succeed. Dampen your light to avoid judgment and we all fall. By loving yourself, you set us free to love ourselves. VIRGO. In March your energies are consumed with relationships and how your part fits into the whole. In April, you can take what you have learned about relationships and crystallize your many warring parts into a single essence that goes deeper and further in time than ordinary life. The details escape you now and how things work don’t make sense and cannot be described. You don’t know who you are and so you go deeper, deeper in. Your strength is in your drive to eliminate your faults and therein lies your weakness. Pluto will find your chief weakness and then kill Page 36you with it.

AQUARIUS. March is a good time to pay attention to the money, either busy making it or spending it. Good to get back into the material world and get grounded again after all those years having a gah gah Neptune transit. In April it is good to network and reconnect with old friends again. Your strength has always been to be detached and to see things from all points of view. Therein lies your weakness. Pluto will not let you be detached and it will dominate and possess you. It will not let you have your own unique point of view. It is his way or the highway. PISCES. Ah, my dear sweet little Pisces. What delicious food you are. March is a good time to see your true self, which is the fattened cow to be sacrificed on the altar. You offer yourself for sacrifice and you call it surrender. In April is a good time to have what you have always wanted only to discover that it doesn’t make you happy after all. It is a good time to discover all the food is locked up in the cupboard but you forgot where you put the key. Your strength has always been your kindness toward others and therein lies your weakness. You don’t know who to be kind to. Be kind to the beast and he thinks it is an invitation for him to eat you.

ARIES. . Meditate deeply, intensely, in March to be in your Center when you explode with energy in April. Six planets in Aries going square Pluto and opposite Saturn. Good time to climb a mountain or do primal or start a revolution or just run down the street screaming like a madman. Karokatoa time plus Vesuvius together. All that energy is your weakness because like a rocket it runs out of fuel after blast off. Pluto is watching, waiting for that moment. You have to pick the right target and to see the Pluto before he sees you. . TAURUS. Be with friends in March and then take them with you into the cave in April. Find yourself a rabbit hole, a refuge, a sanctuary where the wolf can puff and puff and cannot blow your door down. Take a carpet with you and your favorite chair and make it comfortable. Your strength of stability and fixedness is your weakness now. Pluto will break your crutches, rust your tools and sweep away the ground upon which you fixedly stand. Your persistence and stubbornness has met its match. Pluto never stops. It never does. GEMINI. Be with people in power in March to be with your friends in community in April. Find the leader who cares for others and pass on his message to the flock that together we stand and separate we fall. You are designed to be the communicator and the networker and to bring the news that keeps us together. Therein lies your weakness. The message is that a long struggle lies ahead and the promised land has sunk beneath the waves. Good people don’t like to hear bad news and bad people will cut your tongue out if you tell the truth.

ASK THE ATTORNEY By: Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com As I enter into my twenty-first year of practice, I have begun to accept the new reality that it is more difficult, and takes longer, to settle claims in 2011 than it did in the 1990’s. Forgetting for a moment that most insurance companies have fewer adjusters handling more claims, the biggest changes I have witnessed are 1) an increase in the number of insurance policies that no longer contain uninsured or underinsured motorist benefits 2) the increased number of clients who no longer have any form of health insurance and 3) more vehicles are now carrying only the minimum insurance limits required by law. These issues seem to be related because prior to 1990, every motor vehicle policy was required to include uninsured and underinsured benefits, which could be used to pay for medical bills, if the injured party did not have health insurance and the responsible party did not have enough insurance to cover all of the damages caused. However, because uninsured/underinsured coverage is no longer required, it is rejected more than ever. Unfortunately, when this rejection is coupled with an injured victim without health insurance, the medical bills become a problem, because many drivers are carrying the minimum liability coverage required on their vehicles. As you can imagine, the combination of NO UM/UIM/Health Insurance is leading to more “insurance tragedies”, (what happens when a person with no uninsured/underinsured coverage and no health benefits is injured by someone with minimal insurance coverage.) These “insurance tragedies” are something that I am now seeing more then ever before. Knowing the problem, the question becomes …. What can be done, without spending a kings ransom to protect ourselves from being the victim of an “insurance tragedy”? There is no simple answer. However, I recommend purchasing as much uninsured/underinsured coverage as you can afford, as this offers additional coverage if you don’t have health coverage and are injured by someone who is underinsured. The second portion of this equation is a bit more difficult. Where and how can you obtain health insurance, if you currently do not have any? There used to be program called Adult Basic which did provide a low cost health insurance option in Pennsylvania however, its future is uncertain due to current budget cutting. The other safety net has been Medicaid however, for the same budgetary reasons it is becoming more difficult to obtain this coverage either before or after an accident. Further adding insult to injury, if Medicaid, or some other public program, picks up the medical bills, in almost every circumstance, they will want some of their money back when the case resolves. Given the above, the easiest and cheapest way I know to avoid an “insurance tragedy” is to purchase as much un/underinsurance coverage as you can afford. This coverage can act as de facto health insurance and be used to pay medical bills, or any other losses you may incur. The other option is to obtain some amount of medical benefits on your motorcycle policy. While this won’t do much if you end up with tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills, it will provide a low cost safety net if your bills are in the $5,000-$10,000 range. Finally, if you do find yourself involved in an accident and have no health insurance, immediately apply for public assistance through the hospital’s social services office as they are best prepared to help guide you through the application process. They also know that in most cases, this is the only way they may get paid and therefore have an incentive to help you get approved. I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

got strep? Know the signs of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep

Sometimes when children present with difficult behaviors they are given a mental health diagnosis without considering whether an infection might be the root cause of the disorder. When the child’s behaviors are the result of strep antibodies attacking the basal ganglia of the brain, the condition is known as PANDAS: Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep. Once the condition is triggered by strep, subsequent exacerbations can be caused by other bacteria or viruses such as the flu. Here are some of the symptoms of PANDAS.

▢ Obsessive-compulsive behaviors: can include repetitive behaviors, excess fear nnnof germs, hair pulling and eating disorders ▢ Motor and verbal tics (Tourette’s) ▢ ADHD symptoms (hyperactivity, inattention, fidgety) ▢ Separation anxiety (child is “clingy” and has difficulty separating from his or her ccccaregivers ▢ Mood changes (irritability, sadness, emotional swings) ▢ Sleep disturbance ▢ Nighttime bedwetting and/or daytime urinary frequency ▢ Fine/gross motor changes (e.g. changes in handwriting) ▢ Joint pains
