Warriors Watch by Wayne “Rock” (of the Marne) Lutz
Supporting our Nations Warriors The Warriors’ Watch Christmas Wreath Ride, 2010
Each December, the Warriors’ Watch Riders of Southeast Pennsylvania do what we call a “Wreath Ride.” We pass the hat among our riders and buy a couple hundred Christmas Wreaths. We attach red bows, then we set out on our bikes (regardless of temperature) to honor the memories of fallen warriors around the Southeast PA Region at the cemeteries in which they rest. We start with one “Veteran’s Field” in one cemetery that we have chosen, and we place a Christmas Wreath at each of the markers in that field (Always with the approval of the cemetery management). This year, our Warriors Watch Riders Wreath Ride will begin in the Philadelphia National Veteran’s Cemetery. What’s that you say? You didn’t know there was a National Cemetery in Philadelphia? You are not alone. Many, possibly most, people in the region are unaware of the existence of that hallowed place. Philadelphia National is full - has been closed to new interments for some time now. It was opened in 1865 and is now the final resting place for soldiers from the Civil War to Vietnam. When the Warriors Watch National Boss T and I first went to this place several weeks ago, we were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it was. The cemetery is meticulously maintained, the gleaming white granite markers lined up in military rows reminiscent of Arlington. I did some research and learned that the Philadelphia National Cemetery is brimming with history. It holds the remains of 148 Confederate soldiers, 2 medal of honor recipients, and 66 Buffalo Soldiers among others. It was this latter fact that grabbed my attention. Here we have a national treasure – a beautiful national cemetery that is packed full of American History, right in our backyards, and it holds 66 AfricanAmerican soldiers from the time of the Civil War. I am willing to bet that many people are unaware of that, or even what a Buffalo Soldier is for that matter. I love to educate people about veterans. It’s one of the stated goals of the Warriors’ Watch to educate the public in concrete ways. I saw this cemetery Wreath Ride as an opportunity to bring to the Philly public some knowledge of the Buffalo Soldiers. T and I then contacted the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club and told them of our proposed project. They enthusiastically agreed to join us in the effort. WWRiders and Buffalo Soldiers MC members then spent days and weeks doing research and physically searching for the grave markers for the 66 Buffalo Soldiers resting there. We found them all, and on December 11th, 2010, the Warriors’ Watch Riders and the Buffalo Soldiers MC will ride together to honor those original Buffalo Soldiers. Through news coverage we hope to inform and educate the public of the Buffalo Soldiers buried there – what a Buffalo Soldier is, and what they meant to the history of and how they contributed to the freedom of the United States. Please bear in mind that everyone is welcome to ride with us on this mission. The Philadelphia National Cemetery is only the starting point – following that we will place wreaths in Bensalem, Langhorne, Washington’s Crossing, and the Garden of Reflection Memorial to the victims of the 9/11 attacks on America. There will be a scheduled rest stop at Brian’s Harley-Davidson in Langhorne. If you would like to ride with us, contact me at lutz@warrior-
swatch.org, or T at t@warriorswatch.org, or just go to the mission planning boards of our forums to follow the mission planning there. (http:// forums.warriorswatch.org). Our National Cemeteries are a National Treasure, places where the very air is thick with the long history of service to our nation. Join us in honoring those who served before us. We are free only because of them. For more info please visit

Below is the recap of the November General Election. I made some notes that I believe are important for everyone to take notice of. In January our efforts will begin anew to pass the legislation that we so diligently worked on during this session. There were so many twists and turns that it would be impossible to publish a roadmap to exactly what happened over the past two years. The trip to defend our rights and insure our liberties begin anew in 2011. The kickoff for this effort will happen on January 21, 22, 2011 at the Leadership and Legislative Seminar at the Holiday Inn, Grantville. Tickets are selling briskly so to insure your spot at one of the nation’s premier motorcycle rights seminars, purchase your ticket today. 2011 – 2012 New Legislators Governor Tom Corbett * Lt. The Pennsylvania House Republicans regained the majority with 110 Members for the 2011-12 session. The Senate remains under Republican control. Where Were You? 14th Annual David Millike Jr. Toy Run Story & Photos by Alicia (BBA) Helfrich
Toy Run months are among us. Tis the season to be giving; makes Life worth living. If you feel down and out and get that “life sucks” attitude every once in awhile well, rethink it! One trip to a Children’s Hospital will hopefully change your mind on just how bad you think you might have it. I had the great opportunity and wonderful experience to participate in two annual toy runs this past November, and on the same weekend. It really tugged at my heart. The first toy run was a local event, and on a smaller scale. On Saturday, November 6th, York County Harley Davidson Owners Association (YCHDOA) held their 14th Annual David Millike Jr. toy run. We lined up in the Sam’s parking lot in York. Renegade Classics was there selling their Gator Skin wear, and leathers to those who needed more layers for the ride, or just who wanted new apparel for the winter season. Page 8
FLBPA.com / December 2010
The PA State Police led the ride to Penn State Hershey’s Children’s Hospital to deliver the toys and present the annual check. Rick McGuigan, an original member of YCHDOA, spoke with me and was more than happy to explain the founding history of this Association, and the joy it brings everyone to be able to help these children who are fighting life-threatening illnesses. Go on line and check them out yourself. www.ychdoa.com. Nearly $25,000 in cash and toys were donated this day, according to their website. We were also told 627 bikes participated in this year’s run! Where Were You? 30th Annual Delaware Valley ABATE Toy Run.
Story & Photos by Alicia (BBA) Helfrich
After the Hershey Toy Run I saddled up my horse with my overnight bag in tow, and rode directly to Philadelphia. I did mention it was Toy Run season, right? I reached Philly by 6 pm, checked in and got my directions in order for Sunday, November 7th, 30th Annual Delaware Valley ABATE Toy Run. I’m having difficulty with words trying to describe this event which had thousands of bikers participating. This has to be my most memorable ride to date. I’ve seen overflowing fields of cycles in my time, but the sea of bikes that lined up for the escorted route on Columbus Blvd. and Spring Garden streets was breathtaking! I met riders who rode in alone, and riders who came in, let me say groups, and not packs, for this cause.
This Toy Run has the reputation as “America’s Largest Rolling Toy Run.” Santa Claus and the Philly Phanatic were among many who led the parade to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. (CHOP) Arriving atP CHOP had me thinking of how Page 10 FLB A . c o mand / D seeing e c e m bthe e r children 2010
blessed I was to be able to have a childhood of ONLY annual doctor check ups. The delight of seeing toys the size of a Barbie doll to a huge Barbie Mustang car strapped onto these bikes was amazing. Saddlebags and backseats were loaded with toys. I met some great people! I also met some guys that had me laughing so hard, I swear I saw the moon. (Proof is in the picture.) Thanks guys for showing me your local watering hole too. It was a fantastic weekend participating in these toy runs, and a good feeling knowing I helped others. Yes, it was a long, dark, cold, ride home alone, but it was worth it, and I’d do it again. Thanks to all of you who smiled for my camera. God Bless the Children, and their Parents. See You in the Fast Lane! FLBPA.com / December 2010

The SCC tour ended the 2010 season at the Lone StartRally Galveston Texas. This year John Greene, the same guy who puts on all of the Easyrider shows, ran the rally. The attendance seems to vary depending on who you ask, it’s somewhere between 50-200,000 people, regardless the place was jumping. We set up with Rick Fatrless, Michael Ballard form The Full Throttle Saloon, Paul Yaffe, and the Martin Brothers. One of the cool things, or should I say funny things, that happened during the weekend was when Carlos Mencia, you know the guy from the Comedy Central TV show “Mind of Mencia” stopped by. Now to look at Carlos he doesn’t exactly fit the “Biker” stereotype but au contraire. Carlos owns a dozen bikes built by the Martin Brother’s and he rides them. Because Carlos is from Galveston, he the man, and he was asked to lead the giant bike parade. To get prepared he sent one of his guys out to get so fuel so he could top off some of his bikes. When you have a dozen bikes the privilege is to get to choose the one you want to ride. His “mechanic” lets just call him that, decided it was easier to find some fuel close by at the vending area than to go to the gas station. So he borrowed a gallon or two and proceeded to top off several of Carlos’s customs. Carlos came over and chatted it up with us and then got ready to lead the parade. The first bike he started, spit, kicked and blew smoke, the second did the same so did the third and fourth. Needless to say there was some real concern. Carlos was forced to ride his Suzuki-hyabousa that pretty much pissed him off. Later that evening we joined Carlos at his restaurant Maggie Rita's Bar & Grill. He totally styled us out on the forth floor with a bottle of tequila and some awesome Mexican grub. At the restaurant Carlos graciously signed autographs and took pictures. After about an hour he came over to our table. Of course we wanted to know about his bikes. He simply paused, shook his head and said, “ the idiot who I sent to get fuel, got diesel fuel”. Well that’s all we needed to hear, and burst out laughing Carlos is a true biker and a great guy, who knew! I guess that’s why we keep doing what we do, the biker culture is all about meeting cool people from all walks of life that share our passion. The tour schedule for 2011 is filling up fast. If you would like to book us, do it early because you’ll get a great discount, see our web site for details, www.stripclubchoppers.com. Also new for 2011 will be the Princess of The Pole, pole dancing competition. Promoters will have the opportunity to organize a pole dancing competition that we will host. The winners will receive SCC merchandise and prizes, along with a spot on the 2012 SCC calendar. Why do the typical bikini contest Tour sponsorships for 2012 are also still available along with new SCC franchises’ for the west coast and Europe. For details contact Johnny Lange at info@stripclubchoppers.com Happy Holidays!

HUMOR IN THE FAST LANE
Compiled by the Chief
All jokes are submitted by our readers. We dont know where they came from or who wrote them. Just enjoy!!!
A cop stops a Harley for traveling faster than the posted speed limit, so he asks the biker his name. 'Fred,' he replies. 'Fred what?' the officer asks. 'Just Fred,' the man responds. The officer is in a good mood and thinks he might just give the biker a break and, write him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name. The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it. The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. 'Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?' The biker replies, 'It's a long story, so stay with me.' I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD.. After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through School, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD. Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am Just Fred.'
Once upon a time,
a Prince asked a beautiful Princess... “Will you marry me?” The Princess said “NO!” And so the Prince lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and went fishing and hunting and played golf and dated women half his age and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
Last night I was sitting on the sofa watching TV when I heard my wife's' voice from the kitchen. "What would you like for dinner my Love? Chicken, beef or lamb?" I said, "Thank you, I'll have chicken." She replied "You're having soup, asshole. I was talking to the cat." Page 18
The End
An older man approached an attractive younger woman at a shopping mall. ‘Excuse me, I can’t seem to find my wife. Can you talk to me for a couple of minutes?’ The woman, feeling a bit of compassion for the old fellow, said, ‘Of course, sir. Do you know where your wife might be?’ ‘I have no idea, but every time I talk to a woman with tits like yours, she appears out of nowhere

MOOD OF THE MOMENT. The planets that were in such terrifying aspects this summer have lightened up. Saturn has passed on deeper into Libra and Uranus has gone retrograde back into Pisces. Pluto moves steadily on doing its job of salvaging and rebuilding the mistakes of the past and what has decayed. Thousands of bridges need to be rebuilt, thousands of old oil wells need to be capped, pollution needs to be cleaned up, and research to find new solutions needs to be continued. The next big unexpected BP-type crisis probably will not emerge until the summer of 2011. This is re-building time. Meanwhile, I am still looking for news of this revolutionary archaeological discovery I expected. Pluto, by definition, is very secretive and it is hard to find out. ARIES. Freedom is coming, but first you have to let go. Let go of anything heavy that is holding you back. Let go of what gives you certainty or security. Let go of old habits. Let go of anything that is not compatible with your True Self. Like an overloaded plane too heavy to lift off, throw out the baggage and even the chairs and the pilot too. Time to fly is coming soon my friend and open skies will be beckoning you to become one of the winds. Forget any temptation to argue with others about their beliefs or yours. It will just hold you back.
TAURUS. Well, well, well, love, relationship, and friends are happening for you now during this time. It is a problem of abundance. The average person has time or space for only 5 or 6 close friends at the most. You are going to have more invitations than that. So pick the people that give you the most joy and uplifting spirit and absorb their auras and drink your fill. Be like a camel because the desert of retreat and aloneness is just a couple of years away. Both are necessary and complimentary. Good to see both sides at the same time. GEMINI. Mars opposite Gemini during this time gives a tendency to argument from others. They may be unnecessarily critical or aggressive toward you. They want to go left and you are going to the right. They want to take a taxi and you enjoy the walk. Compromise is not easy at this time so your choices are to separate or to have an outspoken disagreement. Not to worry. Arguments are just another form of communication and enemies are just another form of relationship. Good to know all sides and to mix the spice with the sugar sometimes…. also, remember to slow down. CANCER. Success or failure? Good news or bad news? Trauma or transformation? You will never know. It is the Osho story of the farmer and the horse. What smells like shit turns out to be fertilizer and what looks like fertilizer creates a dead zone and fish kill in the Gulf. Dominance and power issues with others now just to help you find your inner strength and grow. Sudden new insights and knowledge now that expand your horizon. Thoughts of changing your career or goals in life, but duties and responsibilities at home are holding you back to consider the practicalities before you jump
SAGITTARIUS. Happy Birthday Beloved and many more. Mars transit in Sagittarius gives you the energy to go, go, go. You might find yourself restless and hard to sit still. You might find yourself provoking debate over ideas just for the fun of it. You might find yourself more impatient than usual and avoid long lines. It is a good time to be physically active and go jogging or walking. This is an impulsive time so monitor your speed so that you don’t go any faster than your awareness can keep up. Speeding tickets are expensive these days. CAPRICORN. First, you are hard at your work making twice the effort to get half the results. Slowly, slowly, the career goes until it is better organized and a new foundation is laid. Second, you become busy with networking and linking up with friends, allies and resources. Third, there comes a quiet time when nothing seems to be happening and you go inside. Fourth, there comes a time around December 13-15 when a sudden surge of energy, an event with a powerful impact, that requires all of your resources to cope from the depths of your soul to survive. Not a good time to walk into a bar full of Hells Angels and shouting out, “Fuck You!”.
AQUARIUS. A lot of energy now is about your work and making money. Time to be down to Earth and practical again after this long, long gah gah Neptune transit is almost past. Something about women and friends involved in your work, maybe as customer, boss or colleague. Something about beauty in your work and making the product or services more pretty and attractive. It is a good time to shine and some sudden, unexpected positive monetary results may happen. Good to accumulate the money now because later you are not going to care about it. PISCES. Busy, busy at your job and probably some sucVIRGO. Mars square Virgo during this time. You tend to cess at it too. Get everything done now that you can get be critical and angry toward yourself. Drop it. Not your done and make yourself secure so that you don’t have fault. If money is short, it is not a failure on your part. to make so much effort later on. You begin to get a little It is just a Saturn transit and this too shall pass. If you non-ambitious in the Spring of 2011 and the feeling beare worrying or thinking too much, it is good to drop it comes even stronger in 2012 and beyond. This is when also. Despite all your thinking and knowing, a Neptune you melt away into the universe and you become part of transit is just beginning and things are supposed to be the All-Is-One. So be like a squirrel and gather all your vague, unknowable and hard to come to conclusion. nuts together and store them away. This is a good time Put your focus on what you know for sure in life and to use your self-confidence and enthusiasm to achieve 26ignore the rest. F L B P A . c o m / D e c e m b ewhat r 2needs 0 1 0to be done LEO. The juice for you now is in the home. LIBRA.. The more the world changes around you and the stronger the chaotic winds blow, the more you are in your center and stand firm. This is not a time for compromise or sociability or even group activities. This is a Saturn time of aloneness and self-sufficiency. If you have a choice between the hard way or the easy way, then choose the hard way. Purposefully choose the struggle. Test yourself. Strengthen yourself. Keep your back straight and your eye on the ball. Follow the rules that are right for you and re-evaluate your plans for the future. SCORPIO. Venus in Scorpio during this time makes you not only tolerable to live with, but a joy. You are at your charming best and people are more relaxed with you because you are willing to compromise and maintain harmony. You consider the others’ needs and feelings as well as your own. Venus has to do with beauty and so it is a good idea to go with the flow by getting yourself new clothes and dressing up. Pay attention to the beauty in your environment and immerse yourself in beautiful places. Beauty above you, Beauty below you, Beauty to the left and right, All is Beauty.
ABATE TOY RUN WILL A 30-YEAR BIKER TRADITION GET SCROOGED? Story and Photos by Brad Alman Nov. 7, 2010 – Can you believe the 30th Annual ABATE “For The Kids” Toy Run to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) will most likely be the LAST? I find this difficult to imagine after personally witnessing the tremendous turnout at and participation in the 2010 event. There were many bikes from local states (PA, NJ and DE); but I was pleasantly surprised to see chapters of riders from NY, MA, CT, VA, MD, GA and FL as well! I didn’t expect to see this type of turnout considering the temperature was only in the upper 30s when I left my house at 8:30 a.m. Unsubstantiated rumor has it that the City of Philadelphia wants $30,000 from ABATE for the necessary police presence required to keep the event flowing safely. I discussed what I heard with several on-duty officers and, without exception, each officer I spoke with stated they would happily volunteer for this event assignment without pay. Unfortunately, they are not presented with that option. I’d love to know why that is. This long-standing, positive, biker event benefits not only the children who are patients at CHOP, but several other area hospitals where, sadly, children with various illnesses, injuries and medical conditions have no alternative but to remain at the facility as patients over the holiday season. Years ago, event participants would walk through the main lobby and atrium of CHOP to drop off thousands of toys – sometimes over 100,000. What I most remember, what I can never forget and what I really miss, are the faces of both the young patients with their IV poles in tow and their grateful siblings and parents. Bikers have a reputation with nonriders who have never actually interacted with us. But we all know the motorcycle community as a whole is one of the most active and generous groups of people imaginable. The look of fascination and then understanding that passes over some people melts the heart. We all have family. A child in the hospital could be one of own. Sometimes it is. Tri State HOG from Media, PA has served as Road Guards for this important event and we’ve participated in and supported this annual run for many years. As a lifetime HOG and ABATE member, I sincerely hope whatever hurdles need to be leapt to continue this annual, uplifting, seasonal tradition can be accomplished. This is way too important to so many young patients and their families that politics simply cannot be allowed to impede this charitable and honorable endeavor. Yo Santa! Do you have one more miracle left you can perform? EDITOR’S NOTE: Fast Lane Biker contacted the Office of the Mayor in Philadelphia (Mayor Michael Nutter) and received the following response: “Because of the ABATE Toy Run's positive effect on the community, the City is willing to work with the event's producer to help make this large scale event a success. Because the Toy Run involves thousands of people and a re-routing of traffic, ensuring the safety of participants and the public is very important. Even during the economic downturn, the City recognizes the importance of partnering with local organizations to support a good cause and with this event producer's help, we'll make every effort to help children enjoy their holiday season. We welcome a discussion on how to make 2011 another successful year for ABATE and the community.”

Surrender
Part 5
We start with one of the least common decisions, but it is appropriate to begin with surrender, because this decision must be made before any other choice about playing your hand. Not every game offers surrender, and those that do fall into two categories Early vs Late. Surrender offers you as a player the choice to fold your hand, at the cost of half of the original bet. You must make that decision prior to taking any other action on the hand. For example, once you draw a third card, or split, or double down, surrender is no longer an option. The two varieties of surrender, early and late, differ only in the way a dealer blackjack is handled. In an early surrender game, a player may choose to surrender before the dealer checks his cards for a blackjack, offering a cheap way out even if the dealer turns out to have a blackjack. Because this offers a healthy advantage to the player, this version (early surrender) is rarely offered. The much more common variation is late surrender, where the dealer checks for blackjack first, and then only if he does not have blackjack will he allow players to surrender their hands. Surrender is an excellent rule for players who use it wisely. Unfortunately, many players surrender far too many hands. If you play in a game with surrender, use our Blackjack Basic Strategy Card to determine when surrender is the appropriate play. To understand how bad a hand must be to properly be surrendered, consider the following: To lose less with surrender, you must be only 25% likely to win the hand (ignoring pushes). That is, if you lose 75% of the time, and win only 25% of the time, your net loss is about 50% of your bets, equal to the amount you’ll lose guaranteed by surrendering. So, learn to use the surrender option, but make sure you know when it is appropriate. Page 32
It’s worth mentioning again that the vast majority of surrender is LATE surrender, after the dealer checks for BJ. Make sure you choose the right option over on the Strategy Engine. And if you do find a game that offers early surrender, drop me a note. Good opportunities like that are rare. That’s really all there is to know. If you’ve never played the game before, it can be a little intimidating at first. Just sit down at a table with a friendlylooking dealer and give it a try. After 10 minutes, all these details will be easy. Like many things, it’s easier done than said! Before you go to the casino, you may want to try a few hands at the Blackjack Strategy Trainer. The foundation of winning at Blackjack; is to utilize proper basic strategy in playing the hands. “Proper” means that each decision you make on hitting, standing, doubling or splitting pairs is the correct mathematical play for that hand. There is no room for intuition, gut feelings or guessing when it comes to basic strategy; you must make the “percentage” play each time. Even if you’ve doubled an 11 against a dealer’s 10 five times in a row and lost, when that hand comes up a sixth time you must double. Consistency is a big part of playing a winning game, so resolve right now that you are going to make the proper play, regardless if the dealer rolls his eyes upward or the other players at the table groan quietly when you do it. You are there for the money -- there’s no other reason to play blackjack -- and the application of proper basic strategy is going to get that money for you; what others think of your play is not important.
Good luck! Next month: The correct basic strategy.

ASK THE ATTORNEY By: Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com “ASK THE ATTORNEY’S” 1ST ANNUAL HOLIDAY WISH LIST 1. A happy, healthy and safe holiday season for everybody with a few 70 degree days thrown in so we can all get on our bikes and enjoy some winter riding. 2. Drivers who actually pay more attention to their driving than to talking on their cell phones, texting or doing just about everything other than paying attention to other drivers on the road. 3. Automobile drivers who actually look after they’ve stopped at a stop sign, to see if there are any motorcycles coming, as this would prevent many accidents and I would never again have to hear “I looked, but never saw the motorcycle coming”! 4. Drivers who look to see if there are any vehicles coming toward them before making a left hand turn directly in front of an oncoming motorcycle, wouldn’t that be nice! 5. This one’s a big one … I would like everyone pull out their insurance policy and actually read the Declaration Page so you understand what you are really covered for and what you are not covered for. 6. Insurance companies that would actually explain that motorcycle policies do not include medical benefits unless you opt to add this coverage onto your policy, unlike automobiles which are required by law to have at least $5,000.00 in medical coverage. 7. I would like everyone to understand that if you are involved in an accident on your motorcycle as opposed to in your automobile, you are more likely to be seriously injured. Therefore, your motorcycle insurance should be just as good as, if not better than, the coverage on your automobile. 8. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage on everyone’s insurance policy so you are no longer at the mercy of the insurance decisions made by a negligent party. 9. For clients to stop giving “recorded statements” to the other persons insurance company before calling me, in the belief that the other insurance company actually cares about you more than defending their own insured. 10. And finally, a one day sale where everyone can choose the new bike of their dreams for $500.00! Hey, it’s a “wish list” so why not! Wishing you and yours, a happy and healthy holiday season! See you all next year! LEE D. GABER, Esquire The one and only, “Cycle Attorney”

Where Were You?
Story & Photos by Alicia (BBA) Helfrich
HOT BLOODED & HOT SOUPS On October 23rd I decided to take a ride for no real reason. Just get on the bike and ride. Ya’ll know the feeling. No photography assignment was on my list that day. I found myself cruising down the back roads and “Crossed the Border.” (That would be into Maryland.) I ended up in Darlington, MD at the Chesapeake Harley-Davidson dealership. You know the place..... it’s right down the road from The Union Hotel, another great Biker hang out. As I rolled into the parking lot I noticed it was packed. I said under my breath, “what the heck is going on here?” There was a blood drive going on, and the Ladies HOG Chapter was having a soup, stew, and chili sale. I thought, “cool beans” FOOD! I joined in and met some friendly riders. Can you guess what happened next? That’s right, I started snapping away. (My camera travels with me like my driver’s license. I don’t leave home without it.) Chalk one up for another great day of riding in the Fall. Here are some interesting facts I got through an email from Crossroads HarleyDavidson. BLOOD AND BLOOD USAGE: * Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood * About 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need blood * Each transfused patient uses an average of three units of blood * 10% of all hospital patients, over the age 65, will receive blood * 53% of all transfused patients are women, and 47% are men * Cancer is the #1 disease category for blood usage, accounting for almost 20% of all blood transfused * Premature babies are most likely to use blood than any other age group * Blood cannot be manufactured- it can only come from generous donors * Men can reduce their incidence of coronary artery disease by donating blood once a year See You in the Fast Lane!
