Warriors watch By wayne “rock’ (of the marne) lutz

supporting our nations warriors Back from the War – Four US Army Transportation Companies About three weeks ago the Warriors’ Watch received a phone call from one SFC Chestnut who told me of four National Guard units returning from Afghanistan, and would Warriors’ Watch provide a Welcome Home celebration/escort? The units were due to arrive on December 18, landing in Philadelphia and from there to be transported to Fort Dix, where they would begin demobilization. I love these types of welcomes. The massive DC10 held all of those troops and their equipment - enough troops to require eight busses and two 18-wheelers to get them to Dix. The details of the planning and logistics are not important, except to say that there are individuals involved whose work - hard work - is absolutely essential to the successful completion of a mission of this size. The first such is the Pennsylvania WWR Single Point of Contact for Law Enforcement (WWR SPOC LEO for us military types who like acronyms.) In this case that was “Bobcat” and “Dennis.” The most important aspect of this part of the planning is how to meet a chartered airliner that is NOT landing at the normal terminals at the International Airport. The nuts and bolts of that will remain classified; we will say only that the Airport Police are indispensible partners in welcoming our troops in this way. The other person involved is Maria Hyland of A Hero’s Welcome. Her contacts intersect with those of the WWR but do not necessarily duplicate those. The media contacts are also her doing, and in this case we were even able to get a channel 6 newsman in with us by assuring the authorities that “he’s with us!” This was a case were just about everything went off on schedule and as planned. The plane, due in at noon, was actually 15 minutes early. We had about 50 WWR and AHW present, about 30 motorcycles and several other assorted vehicles. We had just enough time, upon our escorted arrival at the landing place, to form up a looooong flag line that would be easily visible to the taxiing airplane, and even from the air from that same plane. We were given word that the plane was on final approach, and we looked up and sure enough there was this massive freedom flight coming in like a graceful gliding fowl, touching down smoothly on the runway right there ahead of us. We then watched as the plane taxied around and finally came to a stop RIGHT AT OUR FEET. When a flight comes in this way the first people to board the plane are a gaggle of customs officials. They go in and take care of their business, and then the troops begin to emerge. As we were waiting for this to happen, the long horizontal flag line was divided in two and brought in to form a red-white and blue corridor through which our warriors would pass as they de-planed. If you have never shook 350 hands, slapped 350 backs, and spoken a strong, eye-t0-eye “welcome home” 350 times, you need to keep looking for an opportunity to do so. The first 30 troops to come out were diverted at the bottom of the steps to another direction, as they had “volunteered” (ha! If you’ve ever been in the Army you know what that means) to offload the equipment into the waiting trucks. The rest of the troops made their way through our gauntlet of leather-clad patriots, and to judge by the smiles on their faces, it was a welcome arrival to home turf. One of the soldiers told one of our riders that they could see us as they landed and the sight - all that flying color and gleaming chrome - was “awesome.” I was told by a unit NCO in an after-action report that this NCO was at the top of the steps and the expressions of happiness and unexpected pleasure as they emerged and saw all of us was universal. Happy, tired but happy, troops? Mission accomplished! Page 4

Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza

I love it! Two weeks before Christmas and cycle enthusiasts were out shopping and enjoying the Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza held December 11-12, 2010. Those of us who took time out from the hustle and bustle of the season, and the shopping malls, made our way to the Allentown Fairgrounds. Even a few braved the cold temps and rode in. As I entered the main doors I couldn’t help but noticed the huge box of toys that was on it’s way to overflowing. The U.S.M.C. had a Toys for Tots drop off in the lobby. Thanks to all who help the kids enjoy a new toy at Christmas. These guys put on a great show. It was my first time at this event, and as I sometimes say in my articles, “it won’t be my last.” The second you walk into the 80,000 square foot “heated” facility one has to decide which direction to head towards first. There was so much to see from new and used swap meet parts, US and metric bike dealers, trailers, leather apparel, accessories and some fun novelty items which made for “naughty” gifts for yourself or your friends who have a wild side. And who doesn’t have that? A few Rat Rods and Street Rods were seen entering the massive parking lot. (There is plenty of parking for everyone at this event and its FREE!!) A friend I know named Joe, drove in from Philadelphia to “trade” his Rat Rod with another guy. They used the Lehigh Extravaganza as their meeting location. After processing all the legal paperwork you had two happy guys as they walked around and checked out the show.. I was told the Rat Rod with the stripes was featured in a Nicholas Cage movie. How cool is that? I met bike builders who were displaying some really awesome looking rides. (Thanks again for lunch and the tank top guys.) Did you miss the show? Have no fear it’s going to reappear March 19-20, 2011. I dare you to mark your calendar and show up for this event. Come both days! Make a weekend out of it. There is plenty to see and do in the Lehigh area. Just a few feet away from the Agricultural Hall is the Famous Farmer’s Market. One mile from this event is center city Allentown. I have experienced first hand the Allentown Brew Works on Hamilton Street. There are many restaurants too numerous to mention. So hit the Lehigh Motorcycle Extravaganza in March, and look for me. Stop and say Hi! For more info check out www.motorcycleExtravaganza.com See You in the Fast Lane Biker Babe Alicia York

Politics biker style by charles umbenhauer a.b.a.t.e.

A new session – an old problem There is a new sheriff in town and his name is Tom Corbett. Along with him comes a bunch of new deputies. One good thing is the new sheriff has stated “I am not interested in reinstating the helmet law.”

Now if the story ended there, we’d all live happily ever after. But, as often is the case there is more to it than that. The National Transportation Safety Board has released an updated “most wanted list” of safety improvements it recommends be made into state laws. On their wish list is a law that requires helmets for all motorcycle riders, a requirement Pennsylvania modified in 2003. Enter the perennial villain Representative Dan Frankel who has already announced plans to introduce his bill that would require helmets for all riders. Dan’s argument is an old one. Let me quote it for you. “Pennsylvania is facing a multi-billion-dollar budget deficit because the nationwide economic recovery is not as rapid as we all would hope. In addition, to preventing the tragic, unnecessary loss of lives, restoring our helmet law would help to reduce cost for taxpayers, who ultimately pay the tab for the reckless choice not to wear a helmet. Private and public insurers, as well as hospitals, often provide uncompensated care for patients who have suffered traumatic and disabling injuries after failing to wear a helmet. Those costs in turn are absorbed by consumers and taxpayers, “ Frankel said. Well Dan the last time I looked my fellow riders as well as myself are both consumers and taxpayers. Here’s the real story. “According to the National Center for Health Statistics approximately 1.16 percent of total US health costs are attributable to motor vehicle accidents, and the cost associated with the treatment of motorcyclists injuries account for less than 0.001 % of total US health care cost. Only a portion of that less-than- 0.001 % is attributable to un-helmeted motorcyclists, and the majority of that cost is paid by privately purchased health insurance. What remains, spread across the taxpayer base – which includes millions of taxpaying motorcyclist – is insignificant.” A.B.A.T.E. of PA will be contacting all Members of the House of Representatives requesting them to “not co-sponsor” the Frankel bill. A Lobby Day is being planned for February that will give us the opportunity to meet and greet the many new legislators in Harrisburg. Stay tuned for further developments.

RIDER INSURANCE CELEBRATES 40 YEARS IN THE MOTORCYCLE INDUSTY SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – 2011 marks the 40th Anniversary of Rider Insurance. Currently the largest motorcycle insurance provider in New Jersey and the only company exclusively serving the motorcycle community, Rider attributes our success to the extraordinary support of our loyal customers and to the dedication of our employees in staying focused on what we do best – motorcycles. “We understand the needs of our customers because we don’t just serve the community – we belong to it,” said Harry Bleiwise, chairman and founder of Rider Insurance. “It has been both a privilege and an honor to serve a group of people like no other in the world.” Much has changed in the past four decades, and Rider Insurance has kept pace with that change. To see how far we’ve come, we need only look back at how it all started. Working out of the basement of his home, Harry Bleiwise founded Rider Insurance Agency in 1971 because, as a new member of the motorcycle community, he discovered that motorcyclists were not being treated with the respect they deserved. Harry wanted to do something to change that. His dedication to motorcyclists was rewarded as, over the next six years, Harry gained the loyalty of over 20,000 New Jersey riders. In 1977, one of the largest insurance companies that Harry’s agency was placing business with pulled out of the state of New Jersey. Rather than abandon his fellow riders and dedicated customers, Harry felt it was his responsibility to come to their aid. He invested everything that he had and borrowed the rest to come up with the capital required to start his own insurance company. On June 3, 1977, Rider Insurance Company, the only insurance carrier exclusively serving motorcyclists, opened for business. Since opening our doors, we at Rider Insurance have prided ourselves on offering competitive rates, excellent coverage, and hassle free service. Our employees are committed to providing the outstanding service needed to allow riders to enjoy the freedom of the open road with peace of mind. Rider is also committed to giving back to the community and actively participates in numerous local and national motorcycle events. In addition, through the Bleiwise Family Charitable Foundations and general corporate sponsorships and donations, Rider has been able to support many worthy causes and organizations. Although for many years Rider was only available in New Jersey, in 2007, after many requests, operations expanded into new states. Rider now provides great coverage and service to motorcyclists in Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. While we’ve come a long way since Harry’s basement, we have remained true to our mission to serve the motorcycling community with the respect they deserve. “In reaching this milestone, there is a great deal of appreciation and thanks owed to our employees, both past and present, as well as our valued loyal customers, without whom Rider would not be the company it is today,” said Charles Lally, President. “We plan to continue to grow and expand until we are able to provide the same great service to all riders across the country.” For more information on Rider Insurance or to get a quick quote, call 800-595-6393 or visit www.rider.com. ###

humor in the fast lane Compiled by the Chief All jokes are submitted by our readers. We dont know where they came from or who wrote them. Just enjoy!! A man returns home a day early from a business trip. It’s after midnight. While en route home he asks the cab driver if he would be a witness. The man suspects his wife is having an affair and he wants to catch her in the act. For $100, the cab driver agrees. Quietly arriving home, the husband and cab driver tip toe into the bedroom. The husband switches on the lights, yanks the blanket back And there is his wife in bed with another man! The husband puts a gun to the naked man’s head. The wife shouts, ‘Don’t do it! I lied when I told you I inherited money. HE paid for the Corvette I gave you. HE paid for our new cabin cruiser. HE paid for your season Pittsburgh Steelers tickets. HE paid for our house at the lake. HE paid for our country club membership, and HE even pays the monthly dues!’ Shaking his head from side-to-side, the husband lowers the gun. He looks over at the cab driver and says, ‘What would you do? The cab driver replies, ‘I’d cover his ass with that blanket before he catches cold.’

Cletus is passing by Billy Bob’s hay barn one day when, through a gap in the door, he sees Billy Bob doing a slow and sensual striptease in front of an old green John Deere. Buttocks clenched, he performs a slow pirouette, and gently slides off first the right strap of his overalls, followed by the left. He then hunches his shoulders forward and in a classic striptease move, lets his overalls fall down to his hips, revealing a torn and frayed plaid shirt. Then, grabbing both sides of his shirt, he rips it apart to reveal his stained T-shirt underneath. With a final flourish,he tears the T-shirt from his body, and hurls his baseball cap onto a pile of hay. Having seen enough, Cletus rushes in and says, “What the heck are you doing, Billy Bob?” “Jeez, Cletus, ya scared the bejeezers out of me,” says an obviously embarrassed Billy Bob. “But me’n the Ol’ Lady been havin trouble lately in the bedroom d’partment, and the therapist suggested I do ‘something sexy to a tractor’.” [Don’t make me ‘splain this to you!]

As we all know, sometimes we have trouble with our computers. I had a problem yesterday, so I called Billy,, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control and asked him to come over. Billy As he was walking away, I called after him, So, what was wrong? He replied, ‘It was an ID ten T error.’ I didn’t want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, ‘An, ID ten T error? What’s that? In case I need to fix it again.’ Billy grinned.... ‘Haven’t you ever heard of an ID ten T error ? ‘No, I replied. ‘Write it down,’ he said, ‘and I think you’ll figure it out.’ So I wrote down: ID10T I Page used 20 to like Billy, the little shithead . . ..

I just finished talking with my friend in Minneapolis, and he said that since early this morning, all his wife has done is look through the kitchen window and the snow is nearly waist high. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in...

Did this really happen for you last year?

“Astrology is best used as a rear view mirror to explain things that happened in the past. To predict into the future is too uncertain because there are so many possibilities of how the energies will manifest themselves. You can only learn from the past of what has already happened, not from the future that has not yet come. Look back into your past and search your memory to see if what was foretold really happened that way. In this way you will learn and you will notice how little you have remembered and how much you have forgotten. Learn now that the future never comes and the past never happened.” Dr. Deepak LIBRA.. Sociability, charm and compromise are your ARIES.Harmony on the outside with others or harmony hallmark and none of that is going to happen at this on the inside within yourself. It’s a choice. Do your thing time. Saturn transit in Libra and a feeling to withdraw or do your duty. Run free with the wind blowing in your into yourself and be alone for awhile. Uranus opposite hair or get a haircut and look respectable. This is a time and relationships with others becomes unpredictable and of dilemma between the ‘I’ and the ‘We’. You may feel everybody do their own thing. Pluto square all of this stuck in your relationship now or take it for granted. and it throws the spice of intensity and urgency into the There is a duality of feelings between heaviness and restwhole puzzle. The paradox is that you will have lots of less anticipation to expand. You may withdraw into your invitations to come out and play, but maybe there is a aloneness or unconsciously have an argument to break the piece of work you want to do instead tie.

Page 26

TAURUS. You are genetically engineered to be comfortable and stable. But Now is not the time. Now is a Mars transit two different ways. It is about energy and adrenaline, action and adventure, power and passion. It is the primeval kundalini energy that makes life happen and the body to move. In relationship, it is about the pursuit with passion or flight or fight. In your work, you have the energy to get things done. In your spiritual life, it is good to do catharsis or moving meditation. Good to not move any part of your body any faster than you can stay aware.

SCORPIO. Back in the saddle again. From a feeling of inertia and being stuck in invisible mud to a feeling of the river flows again and the fruit of life is within your grasp to be picked. Mars transit in Scorpio one month a year gives you the energy to go and get whatever it is that you want. Venus transit in Scorpio means you won’t step on someone else’s toes to get it. Passion and romance are at a peak at this time and you may find yourself a little bit magnetically irresistible.

GEMINI. Unexpected, unpredictable, unknown and unexplained in-the-moment zen kind of time for you now. Nothing bad or painful particularly. Not even confusing. Nothing you have to be prepared for. Changes just speed up, that’s all. It is like someone pressed the button on the washing machine of your life that says “Spin and Tumble”. Nothing you have to solve. Just respond to what appeals to you and ignore or dodge the rest. Whatever you put your hands on now tends to slip and disappear through your fingers.

SAGITTARIUS. It is rather unusual, but nothing happens for you during this time. Nothing happens to you, for you, at you, with you, under you or above. It is rather remarkable really. It has never happened before. No threat, no promise. No pain, no pleasure. No demanding, no delivery. No sorrow, no ecstasy. No awareness, no understanding, no ignorance. No arguments, no agreements, no promises. Nothing happens. Nothing. Like a ghost that doesn’t know it is a ghost, you pass through everything. Amazing.

CANCER. Security and attachment are correct for you, but how to do that in a changing world? Saturn and Uranus square Cancer now and Pluto opposition for many years to come. You are in for the long haul. It is going to take some time because the changes happening inside you now are to be permanent and profound. It is the final and most significant step in your evolution. It has to do with being in your center in the center of the cyclone and always, always feeling the presence of yourself. That is what attachment really is.

CAPRICORN. Well, my friend, to be honest and true and to give the most practical advice that I can, it is a good time to bend over and kiss your sweet ass goodbye. Existence has played a good joke on you. You are genetically programmed to organize things into efficient structures that will last the eons of time. Yet, Existence itself is transitory, changing and nothing survives for very long. Most life on Earth is wiped out every 27 million years anyway. The best thing you can do is take care of yourself

LEO. The thing about you and money is that you are one of the few people who know how to spend it and what to use it for. Money is codified experience. Money is the ticket to get through the door of where you want to go. And with Uranus/Jupiter on the cusp of your solar 9th House, maybe you want to go somewhere far, exotic, fulfilling, different than you have been before. It is a good time for a long trip to expand your mind and consciousness. Go somewhere you have never been. Something different is the key.

AQUARIUS. It is your nature to be cool, calm, and detached, but this Neptune transit you have been going through since 1998 might have changed all of that. There has been a kind of swimming in the ocean of feelings of the collective unconscious and your intuitions are stronger than ever. So far it has been a generalized vague energy hard to define. Now, as the outside world becomes more clear, the paradox is the energy still turns to the inside world, but in a more intense and focused way with purpose and determination.

VIRGO. Happy Birthday Beloved and many, many more. Now is the time to learn as much as you can so you can forget it all later when Neptune transit begins next year. People think knowledge and learning is a cumulative process that goes on and on until clarity is achieved. Not really. Clarity is not achieved until you drop the mind and you have to have something to drop. It is the dropping that gives you clarity, not knowing more and more. But you have to know more and more so that the dropping makes a bigger bang.

PISCES. There comes a time next year when you just don’t care about money anymore. It is just not on your mind. You have to write notes to yourself to remember to think about it as just one of those necessities that has to be done. The subject becomes the gap, the scotoma, the blind spot in your thoughts. That is why this is a good time to build yourself a nest egg and to be busy at your work to make as much of it as you can. The stars are right and the force is with you. It happens in unusual and unexpected ways.

Where were you? Were you in the market to Buy, Sell, or Trade anything related to motorcycles? If so, did I see you at the Harrisburg National Swapmeet and Cycle Show? If not, you missed what was advertised as "The largest parts swapmeet in the country." This was held on November 21st at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Jam-On Productions held this 23rd annual event that featured an antique and custom motorcycle show, as well as a parts auction. The show was held from 10AM TO 4PM. It was a great way to spend the day being connected to anything related to cycles. I don't know about you.... but I just can't seem to get enough about motorcycles. Even walking up and down the aisles loaded with cycle parts, somewhat interesting to me, it kept me connected to riding. It truly is an all year round enjoyment. You don't need to live in a warm climate to appreciate motorcycling every month of the year. I met some great people, and enjoyed myself at Dr. Tom's vendor stand.(Thanks for the brews, and the radio broadcast of the Steelers' game.) I even made a new girlfriend, Kelly. That's what it's all about! Bikers, cycles, and fun! Pick up your Fast Lane Biker PA Magazine, and check out the Calendar of Events. There is always something going on. See You in the Fast Lane! Learn to play winning blackjack #101 For past articles or more info contact Blackjack101@FLBPA.com

Playing the Game

The foundation of winning at Blackjack; is to utilize proper basic strategy in playing the hands. "Proper" means that each decision you make on hitting, standing, doubling or splitting pairs is the correct mathematical play for that hand. There is no room for intuition, gut feelings or guessing when it comes to basic strategy; you must make the "percentage" play each time. Even if you've doubled an 11 against a dealer's 10 five times in a row and lost, when that hand comes up a sixth time you must double. Consistency is a big part of playing a winning game, so resolve right now that you are going to make the proper play, regardless if the dealer rolls his eyes upward or the other players at the table groan quietly when you do it. You are there for the money -- there's no other reason to play blackjack -- and the application of proper basic strategy is going to get that money for you; what others think of your play is not important. The correct basic strategy; for a blackjack game depends upon the rules of the casino where you will be playing. The strategy which applies to a single deck game in Reno, for example, is quite a bit different than the strategy for an eight-deck game in Atlantic City. How to learn the basic strategy of your choice; exactly what that strategy is will depend where you are playing. Blackjack Strategy Chart 6 decks. Here's what that looks like for a fairly common game: Six decks, double on any first two cards, double after splitting pairs is permitted and the dealer stands on A-6. This is the chart that you will eventually know as well as your own name -- but don't worry, you're not going to memorize it in this form. What we are going to do is convert all this into what a "normal" person can understand. I call what's above the "Basic Strategy " and you'll use it in some of your training. But what we need to do in order to memorize this is to translate the information above into all-inclusive rules. Look at the strategy for a player's hand of 9 on the matrix above; it says to double against a 3,4,5 or 6 and hit it against everything else. We can turn that information into a simple rule: "With a hand of 9, double versus 3 through 6, otherwise hit." See how this works? We are going to take each player's starting hand and convert the proper play of that hand into one easy-to-understand rule. Now look at a hand of A-2. Proper basic strategy says to double against 5 and 6 and hit it against everything else, so our rule for A-2 is "Double vs. 5 & 6, otherwise hit." As a bonus, we can group A-2 with A-3 since the play for each is identical. So we end up with a rule like this "A-2 , A-3; double vs. 5 & 6, otherwise hit." One more example; a pair of 3's. When double after split is permitted, proper basic strategy says to split 3's whenever the dealer is showing a 2,3,4,5,6, or 7. Against any other dealer up card, we do not split; we should just hit the hand. Thus, our rule for a pair of 3's becomes "3,3; split vs. 2-7, otherwise hit". Clear on all that? Good.

NORCROSS BILL TO ALLOW THE SALE OF MOTORCYCLES ON SUNDAY GETS FINAL APPROVAL

By Trish Graber | January 10th, 2011 - PolitickerNJ

Measure Would Make New Jersey More Competitive TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Donald Norcross (D-Camden/Gloucester) to permit the sale of motorcycles on Sunday received final approval today by both houses of the Legislature. “With our dealerships closed for business on Sunday, consumers are heading across the river to dealers who are welcoming them with open arms,” said Senator Norcross. “Especially in this economy, we need to give businesses the tools they need to remain competitive. This legislation will place us on par with our neighbors and give business owners throughout New Jersey the ability to compete for sales.” Senator Norcross introduced the legislation (S-1923) after a Camden County Harley-Davidson dealer expressed concern about losing customers as a result of the Sunday ban. While her dealership, Barb’s Harley-Davidson, is open Sunday for parts and service, Barbara Borowiec is not permitted to sell or offer to sell a motorcycle from her showroom floor under current state law. She testified before the Senate Transportation Committee that customers who are looking to buy on the spot often will leave her dealership and make the 30-mile trip to Delaware to shop, where the Sunday sale of motorcycles is legal. Borowiec said in addition to losing initial sales, she misses out on potential repeat customers. Additionally, New Jersey loses sales tax revenue on fringe items, such as clothing and accessories, purchased at out-of-state dealerships. “Thousands of residents, including myself, own motorcycles not for day-to-day business travel, but for weekend riding,” said Senator Norcross. “Our laws have to reflect the fact that, for many people, motorcycles are recreational purposes. It is only reasonable that our dealers are given the option of opening on Sundays to vie for sales.” The bill exempts any county which has a law in place that prohibits the sale of items on Sundays, in order to exclude Bergen County, where Blue Laws prohibit the Sunday sale of most nonessential items. The measure would not affect the state’s Sunday ban on automobile sales. The Assembly approved the bill by a vote of 73-4-1. The Senate approved the measure by a vote of 37-1. It now heads to the desk of the governor. Contact Info: Senate Majority Office 609-292-5215 www.njsendems.com Page 36

ASK THE ATTORNEY By: Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com While this months column may be slightly off topic, I am asking, could the Arizona shooting tragedy happen again? The shooting which critically injured Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords and mortally wounded several others, is certainly the worst tragedy I am aware of in 2011 and certainly ranks up there with one of the worst politically motivated shootings in recent history. Therefore I am asking given the current level of political infighting at both the State and National level, is this going to be the start of a new wave of domestic terrorism? Certainly politically motivated acts of violence are nothing new to our country, however, my fear is, given the current economic crisis, these types of shootings by outraged citizens may increase as more people become increasingly incensed by our local and federal governments inability to stop fighting and actually begin to solve some of our country’s problems. I don’t usually like to touch upon political issues, as I have found that regardless of political affiliation, offering an opinion on virtually any subject is often met with an equally passionate position on the other side leaving little room for compromise. However, this is why the politicians need to rise above their party lines and seek real solutions to the problems that we are all facing today! In my small corner of the world, after twenty years, I am seeing more anger and frustration after an injury has occurred, primarily because the individual who has caused the injury, may have little or no insurance available to compensate the victim. In most cases this is because many drivers have chosen to purchase the minimum legal amounts of insurance, which in today’s dollars is woefully inadequate to compensate virtually anyone who suffers a serious injury. The reason we are allowed to purchase such low amounts of insurance in most states is because our legislatures set these minimums a long time ago and have refused to increase them. Some states, including New Jersey, have actually lowered the minimum limits and/or made it legal to operate a vehicle with virtually no liability coverage available to compensate someone who may be injured as a result of someone else’s negligence. While the argument for low limits is that it saves money, in the end, the cost for that savings is ultimately borne by the individual who is injured by someone who saved a few bucks by being allowed to purchase a bare minimum policy. Additionally many of those same legislators have voted to repeal some types of coverage that we were once required to purchase and as a result many who think they have full coverage on their vehicles, do not. Make no mistake, the reason these policies are the way they are is because the State Legislatures have been lobbied hard by the insurance industry in order to allow the insurance companies to sell policies that are most profitable for them. In the end, when someone is injured and learns that there is not enough insurance to cover their out-ofpocket expenses, medical bills, property damage, etc, this simply adds to the level of frustration that everybody continues to feel. The outrage may not be on the same level as issues such as gun control, abortion, social security, etc, but make no mistake, it is a serious problem that can and should be fixed by our representatives if they would just use some common sense and put our needs above their own. What we need is solutions to our problems, not more finger pointing or blame! I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).
