FAMILY!!! Message from the Interim Pastor Bro. Bob Adams “Home.” “Family.” Two of the warmest, dearest words in the English language. With all our busy lives have in them there is still no place like home and no people like family. In a world of incredible technology where faraway people and places are at our fingertips in an instant, there is still no place like home and no people like family. It is no wonder. Once God finished forming the creation He put a family in it, a husband and wife and then children. Even though the first family was marred by disobedience in the parents and envy in the children, God did not toss the idea of family. He kept creating them! Long before the Israelites were His missionary people, and long before the church was formed with the coming of the Holy Spirit, God moved in and through families. He called families to worship together, travel together, and serve together. From the beginning, families were to be the place on earth most like heaven. The choosing love that connects Godly husbands and wives is

born of God. Parents’ unselfish love for their children is the image of God’s poured out love for us. Here, in the family, we are to learn the most about God and learn to speak the truth as He does and love as He does and serve as He does. In the weeks ahead of us, we are focusing on families. This focus gets underway with our Family Fun Day at Camp Living Waters on Saturday, May 4th, then comes Senior Adult day on the first Sunday in May. We gather for Mother’s day on the second Sunday in May. Throughout May families gather for graduations. Vacation Bible School, the first week in June, is a joyful experience for all the family. We honor fathers on the third Sunday in June. In keeping with this strong emphasis on the family, the messages on Sunday mornings will be drawn from the Ten Commandments in Exodus. We will seek to understand how each commandment is a beautiful prescription for building healthy, joyful families. We call it:
Ten Commandments for Terrific Families. The messages will be positive; joy-filled explorations of God’s truth that guides us in growing our families to be the place on earth most like heaven! Whether your family is groaning with the pains of fallenness or enjoying the grace of Jesus-honoring living, the scriptures will encourage and challenge you. PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE In all of this, we will remember to pray for the Pastor Search Committee. They have met almost every week since the committee was formed, sometimes to make plans and determine directions; and sometimes to just pray. They have proven themselves to be people of unflagging commitment and prayer and hard work. This group of servants, called out by Jesus and affirmed by the church, is now and will continue to be a tremendous blessing to the church. Please pray for them as we trust this sacred work to them.

Way back in September, I challenged our students as well as students across Washington Parish to begin praying for one person they knew to be lost. At our parish-wide See You At the Pole rally, students from across our parish began to write names of lost people on index cards. Prayer tends to change our hearts. When we submit to the Lord and let Him do what He does, prayer changes our hearts. In that submission, prayer aligns our hearts with God’s heart. In January, we got together again as a parish and accomplished two goals: we revived our hearts toward the goal to pray for lost people, and we saw how easily we could share our faith using God’s Word. Now in May, we want to bring our prayers to action. Wednesday, May 22nd 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Franklinton Sanctuary, we have a parish-wide evangelistic outreach. We have been preparing for this rally since September, and we are expecting God to do some mighty big things in the hearts of people. The idea is that the people we began praying for in September, we invite to the rally in May. We have this great privilege as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to pray BIG prayers because our God is a BIG GOD. I appreciate our church for being willing to host this parish-wide evangelistic rally.
Here is how YOU can help with this outreach: 1. PRAY – I do not say this lightly. We want to bathe this rally in prayer. We want to align our hearts with God’s heart. We can NOT convince people to come to our church on Wednesday, May 22nd, but the Lord can work and move in their lives. Join us in praying BIG prayers to a BIG GOD for the lost in our community. 2. INVITE – If you would like to invite someone you know who is lost to this parish-wide evangelistic rally, please feel free to do so. Feel free to invite your neighbors, your relatives, anybody the Lord places on your heart. 3. ATTEND – If you would like to attend this rally and help me with any details, please let me know. I could use some church members to be around our church and help anyone who may be in any type of need. I appreciate YOU. Thank you for reading. Please be in prayer for the Student Ministry as well as this evangelistic rally on May 22nd
A Note from Bro. Butch Reviere Every year, Spring here at First Baptist Church is filled with very special emphases, which continue to help us expand our awareness of God’s gracious activity in our lives and the life of His Church. Palm Sunday, Resurrection Sunday, and Youth Sunday are past; now we look forward to the uniqueness of each Sunday of worship in May. On May 5th, we observe, as we do annually, Senior Adult Sunday. It is a time when we call to remembrance the contributions of our senior adults. Many of them have invested decades of their lives in the ministries of FBC, some maybe just months or a few years; but all of them continue to serve our Lord in various capacities of ministry. We will honor them and say “thank you” on that day. However, we will also be reminded that there is no retirement from Kingdom work while still present on the earth. We will rest from our labors when we get to heaven; until then, we press on into the calling of God on each of our lives. If we are not careful, we may find ourselves in our later years sitting, soaking, and maybe souring because we have disengaged from real, active ministry. There is still a place of service for every servant of our Lord until we celebrate your life down at the funeral home! I know that life and health issues can slow us down sometimes but,
with God’s help, let us continue to serve Him and, in that service, continue to worship our Lord, Who gave so much for us. On May 12th, we honor our mothers. Mine has now been with our Lord Jesus for many years; and I treasure, as do you, a faithful mom who gave much more than she ever received. I am blessed to have been reared in a God-fearing home, where worship and service were a very natural part of our lives. Perhaps you cannot say the same; but you can say, at least, that you were born; and, because you were born once, you had the opportunity to be “born again” into the Kingdom of God. For that, we can all praise God and be thankful to our parents, no matter our history. It will also be a day for young moms to commit to being (or becoming) women of faith, who, with their husbands and their church family, commit to rearing their children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” We’ll join some of you on that day as you dedicate your children to the Lord for His glory. On these first two Sundays, we’ll think about legacy…what spiritual impact will be left behind when we have departed this world. But on the third Sunday in May, we will be led to worship by our Bell Choir. The ability to sing for Him or to play an instrument to His glory is an amazing gift.
Though the Enemy has distorted, subverted, and perverted the gift of music, it remains central to our experience of worship as the family of God. I truly appreciate the dedication of all of our worship leaders…musicians and singers… and I look forward to hearing the bells on that day. Whatever the instrument, whether bells, pianos, organs, drums, guitars, other stringed instruments, wind instruments, or the human voice, they all are tools for hearts that love Jesus to offer praise to His name! As you know, the last Sunday of May precedes Memorial Day. While we worship on that Sunday, we will no doubt think of those who had given their lives in service to our beloved United States of America and remember the words of Jesus when He said, “greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13 NKJ). Throughout the ages, men and women have given their lives for country or cause; but there is only One whose death brought life, the forgiveness of sin, and eternity in Heaven for all who will believe and place their trust in Him alone. Every Sunday has its emphasis, but EVERY SUNDAY emphasizes the life, death, burial, and resurrection of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. To Jesus be all the glory!

FBC Kids News Dear Church Family, Have you ever had a moment of invincibility and made a pretty substantial choice in the heat of that moment and later came to realize that it was a really, really bad idea? I hope you aren’t expecting some great theological statement or deep, wise thought. This is really just a confession. And a cry for help. Mostly it’s a cry for help. You see, I, in my moment of invincibility, agreed to the Missions challenge that Cody suggested. I handed VBS Missions over to him and gave him full authority to plan it. And I underestimated him. And backing out would mean immediate loss. Revealing too many details would equal immediate loss as well. I can tell you that if you know me, you know that there are three big “no way, never-evers”. This involves ALL of them. Y’all, I am completely freaking out. Do you remember the Great Cricket Caper a few years ago? I’ll take that any day. Hot wax one eyebrow off? Gladly. Friends, start stocking up on canned vegetables. Lots and lots of them. The Washington Parish Food Bank needs them almost as badly as I do. Save your change or dollar bills. We also take checks. The money will travel to Haiti with our local BASELA Missions Team to spread the gospel abroad. But no matter what, please see that they go into Brother Cody’s pile. We want to vote FOR Bro. Cody. Now that we have that out of the way let’s talk the 5 W’s of VBS. Who? VBS is for children that are or will be four years old by September 30th, 2019 up to current 6th graders (2018/2019 school year). We divide the age groups up into four teams, all based on the grade they are currently in (2018/2019 school year). Our Preschool and Kindergarteners are TEAM YELLOW; First and Second Graders are TEAM GREEN; Third and Fourth Graders are TEAM BLUE; and, Fifth and Sixth Graders are TEAM RED. Children are encouraged to wear their team colors daily for extra chances to win some great prizes! 1 0 / The Br idg e
What? Our theme this year is Lifeway’s In The Wild. Imagine a photo safari of animals in different natural habitats and those snapshots capture your encounter with them. Our daily Bible stories will be snapshots of encounters that people had with Jesus in the Bible. The motto is ZOOM IN, FOCUS ON JESUS and the memory verse is John 20:31, But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name. When & Where? Registration for VBS begins Wednesday, May 1st. You can register anytime online at www.fbcfranklinton.org and click the VBS tab or you can register in the office. Office hours are Mon.-Thurs. from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Fri. from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. We will also hold registration events on Sunday afternoons from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center on May 5th, May 19th, May 26th, and June 2nd. Please note that the church office is closed on Memorial Day, Mon, May 27th. Our VBS Kick-Off will be held on Sunday, June 2nd at 6 p.m. Children that have been registered online or in person and attend our VBS Kick-Off will receive a free VBS t-shirt. Children must be present to receive a t-shirt and have their t-shirt coupon. VBS at FBC is June 3rd – June 7th from 8:30 am until 12:15 pm. TEAM YELLOW drop-off begins at 8:15 am and is in the back of the church facility at the Children’s breezeway. TEAMS GREEN, BLUE & RED drop-off is in the front of the church facility at the Sanctuary porch. All teams (YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE & RED) will have to pick up on the front porch of the church facility on the Sanctuary porch. For security purposes, all adults picking children up MUST present their pick up a ticket or have photo id. There cannot be any exceptions for any reasons. Why? Because kids matter to God, so they matter to us. Because sharing the gospel is critical to the mission of the church because it transforms the hearts of a generation. Because it can transform our
church. I could flood you with statistics that could encourage you or scare you, but our motivation should only be that we are called to be faithful stewards of the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone, including kids. It’s worth it. They are worth it. We still have several areas of VBS that NEED leaders and assistants. Want to be a part of something big? Let me know! Here are some other things to have on your radar for May: Wednesday, May 1st: Half Notes & Joyful Noise Choirs begin VBS Music During May, our students will be learning the music for this year’s VBS during our time of choir on Wednesday nights from 5:30 pm until 6:00 pm. Local Missions Washington Parish Food Bank & Thrift Shop Although we had to stop on March 1st taking new food bank clients because of the inability to support any more families with the decreased food supply we are still experiencing, we have given out four emergency food boxes and at least ten referrals to other food banks, and that has been in only the first thirteen days of the month. Yes, that is hard to believe, but it again points out the tremendous need in our community. Please pray for more funding and more available food, so that children and adults alike do not have to go to bed hungry. Thank you to the recent increase in members of our church family who have stepped up to donate food items and money to help meet the needs. We just purchased 60 cases of needed vegetables for which the cost was covered by two recent donations from church members. Thank you, thank you!! Thank you also to the preschoolers and children (and their parents) who gave to the March Madness Food Drive and especially to Kelly McElveen who always finds ways to help the food bank while teaching children to love Jesus and care about others.
We had tuna and macaroni and cheese for all who wanted it last month. It was awesome!

And last but not least, thanks to Bro. Cody and the youth who came out on Mardi Gras day to push shopping carts, load cars, fold grocery bags, and minister to our families who so enjoy having the young people around.

Mission Opportunities SOCCER BALLS: SEEDS FOR SHARING THE GOSPEL Wow! Can you imagine the joy of a boy who opens his Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift and finds a soccer ball? Soccer, or futbol in Latin American countries, is an international sport played by boys around the world in fields, small patches of level ground on the sides of mountains, patches of dirt, or city streets. In many poor areas, children wad up plastic bags into balls when no balls are available. At our packing party this fall, we want to place a soccer ball in each of 600 shoebox gifts for 10-14-year-old boys, along with school supplies and hygiene items. We have found good balls at low prices online, but your help is needed. The Joshua Sunday School class has graciously agreed to purchase 140 soccer balls, so 460 are still needed. Won't you consider a donation to our OCC fund to purchase one or more balls, which can be seeded to plant the gospel in a boys' hearts? Thank you also to the Circle of Joy class, which has already purchased 75 soccer balls to pack in the shoebox gifts that they are preparing.
Hello Church Family,
There’s a saying that I always tell our team members, “In mission work, it’s always best to maintain rigid flexibility.” We never know what will change on the field once we’re in the country. Weather is usually our biggest unknown; will it be a week of sunshine, or a week of rain. But this year there’s already been a change. We thought that we were going to the small village of Montanita where we ministered in last year. However, there is an even smaller team than ours that is going there. So, our efforts have been redirected to two new villages: Aguacate (Avacado in Spanish), and La Puerta (the Door in Spanish). And, instead of doing Vacation Bible School for 40-50 first through sixth graders, we’re doing Vacation Bible School for about 200 (yes, that’s 200) first through ninth graders! Normal people would panic at this, but two things are evident:
1. We serve an awesome God! This is His mission to reach the children and the villages of Aguacate and La Puerta with the true gospel and to plant an evangelical church in each village. He will supply the strength, wisdom, knowledge, patience, and the means of accomplishing all that He has ordained. 2. We have an awesome mission team that our awesome God has put together. I have the utmost respect for each one of them, and I am already praying for them and what God will accomplish through their efforts. Thank you all again for your prayers and support. We need prayer most of all. But begin now to pray for these two new villages. Pray for hearts that will be tender to hearing the message of God, pray for parents and families that will be impacted by the proclamation of the gospel. Pray for the future churches that will be planted there. God’s blessings on you all,
Brother Dale Parker
