In keeping with its commitment to promoting Québec movies and the people who make them, Quebecor is proud to support the Festival de cinéma de la ville de Québec, a marvelous showcase for the art of cinema. Our love of film is also reflected in Éléphant: The memory of Québec cinema, our large-scale project to preserve Québec’s cinematic heritage. Films take us out of our daily lives. For a few hours, they make us dream, inform us or instruct us. They make us think, cry and laugh. But in the end they make us feel good! Films are also a way for these artists to express their creativity and sensitivity. Québec is overflowing with talented and creative people and the Québec City region is no exception. That is why I urge you to take part in the various activities of the Québec City Film Festival. This edition will continue to establish its reputation as an essential event on the cultural scene in our beautiful region.

When you look at it, there are several similarities between a good movie and going to a restaurant. In both cases, you use many of your senses and try to stimulate emotions that will later become memories. Ils décerneront le Prix du jury collégial parmi des longs métrages internationaux figurant dans la sélection officielle, qu’il s’agisse de fictions ou de documentaires. Cette année, c’est Mélina Malo, enseignante en cinéma au cégep de Ste-Foy, qui agit à titre de mentor et de présidente du jury.

Leo despises her life with her mother and stepfather while nurturing romantic notions about her distant father. It is not until an encounter with timid guitarist Steve, however, that she manages to pull herself out of her lethargy. Dès 17 h, place D’Youville se transformera en salle de concert où évoluera l’Orchestre symphonique de musique de film de Québec sous la direction musicale de Xavier Boucher. Interprétant la bande-sonore d’un programme de courts métrages muets projeté sur l’Écran D’Youville Desjardins, l’OSMFQ vous invite à réfléchir à l’effet de la musique sur l’image. Pour l’occasion, la trame sonore originale des œuvres fera place à une composition inédite imaginée entièrement par des étudiants du Conservatoire de musique de Québec.

Starting at 5 PM, place D’Youville will be transformed into a concert hall where the Québec Symphony Orchestra of Film Music will perform under the musical direction of Xavier Boucher. Interpreted together with a program of silent short films screened on the D’Youville Desjardins Screen, the OSMFQ invites you to reflect on the effect music has on motion pictures. For this event, the original soundtrack will give way to a unique soundtrack composed entirely by students of the Conservatoire de musique de Québec.

LE GRAND FROID, UNE EXPÉRIENCE DE RÉALITÉ VIRTUELLE Glacial Reality, a Virtual Reality Experience Une nouvelle ère glaciaire a frappé la Terre. Les hivers ont commencé à s’allonger. Le gel s’est invité pernicieusement sous les habitations les plus robustes. Le froid s’est amplifié et les rafales du nord se sont abattues sur Québec. Les humains, confrontés à un urgent désir de préserver des glaces leur patrimoine et leur histoire, ont bâti des dômes de 400 mètres de diamètre pour sauver certains lieux d’une destruction imminente. Voici Le Grand Froid, une expérience de réalité virtuelle qui verra le jour au Festival pour ensuite se déployer dans d’autres villes du monde. Une première signée par l’entreprise de Québec STUDIO ELEMENT, en collaboration avec l’artiste Samuel Matteau (Ailleurs, 2018). Concrètement, imaginez un cube de quelques mètres carrés dans lequel vous pénétrez, seul, muni simplement d’un casque recouvrant vos yeux et vos oreilles. Vous êtes prêt ? Le voyage commence, immersif et poétique, pour découvrir une place D’Youville transfigurée, entre fragments du passé et projections du futur.

A new ice age has fallen on the Earth. The winters have started to get longer. Even the strongest built dwellings are damaged by the frost. The cold is beginning to get worse and gusts of wind from the north have begun to hit Québec. Faced with an urgent desire to preserve their heritage and history from the ice, humans have built 400-metre diameter domes to save certain places from imminent destruction. This is Glacial Reality, a virtual reality experience that will have its exclusive premier at the Festival, and then be presented in other cities around the world. A debut concept from Québec City company STUDIO ELEMENT, in collaboration with artist Samuel Matteau (Elsewhere, 2018). Imagine a cube of a few square metres, in which you enter alone with only a helmet covering your eyes and ears. Are you ready? The journey begins, immersive and poetic, to discover a place D’Youville that is transfigured by fragments of the past and projections of the future.

50 years of magic. Magic that is rooted in Québec’s everyday life, but written in a way that goes beyond our cultural setting. Elusively creative, André Forcier’s films speak to us as if we had found ourselves alone with him.

Nous sommes fiers de présenter le docufiction Des histoires inventées, hommage d’un de ses descendants, Jean-Marc E. Roy, en plus du film coup de cœur de Bill, notre directeur de la programmation, Bar Salon. Notre moment « Forcier » se propage aussi dans les bibliothèques de la ville où ses films sont présentés en continu tout au long du mois de septembre. Notre hommage, il nous le rend bien. André Forcier participe au festival en tant que conférencier au Campus du FCVQ, entre autres.

We are proud to present the premiere of the docufiction tribute to André Forcier, Des histoires inventées (2018), by one of these descendants, Jean-Marc E. Roy. Our ‘Forcier’ moment will also spill into libraries in the city, where his films will be presented continuously throughout the month of September, including Bar Salon (1974) a favourite of the Festival’s Co-founder and Programming Director Bill Bilodeau. Jean-Marc E. Roy could not have filmed a better tribute. André Forcier will also be at the Festival as a speaker during the QCFF Campus, as well as part of other activities.

Nos voisins étudiants de l’École d’architecture de l’Université Laval ont à nouveau accepté de relever le défi de concevoir (et de rêver !) la place D’Youville en version FCVQ. La demande cette année : délimiter un espace tout en le gardant invitant, léger, facilement installable et entreposable.

Depuis 3 ans, le mandat de réalisation de la bande-annonce FCVQ est légué à un cinéaste du milieu par son prédécesseur. Cette année, le flambeau est tombé entre les mains de Thierry Bouffard.

Grâce à l’ouverture du personnel et de la direction ainsi qu’à la générosité des participants, nous avons pu envisager diverses avenues pensant l’espace public en contexte événementiel. Félicitations à Maxime Champagne, Émilie Sirard et Shany Vallières pour leur Lisière Tactile qui a remporté la bourse octroyée par le Festival et merci à tous ces artisans-artistes qui nous ont fait profiter de leur talent. Our student neighbours from the School of Architecture at Université Laval have once again accepted the challenge of designing (and dreaming up!) a special place D’Youville for the QCFF. The request this year: design a space that is inviting, simple, and easy to install and to store. Thanks to the openness of the department staff and directors, not to mention the generosity of the participants, we were able to consider various possibilities to create a public space with an event context. Congratulations to Maxime Champagne, Émilie Sirard and Shany Vallières for their design entitled Lisière Tactile, which won the grant awarded by the Festival and thank you to all the artisans-artists who helped us with their talent. Découvert par le grand public grâce à son long métrage Feuilles mortes (2016), Thierry est un cinéaste aguerri dont la feuille de route s’étale sur plusieurs pages, notamment en courts métrages et en publicité. Pour la bande-annonce 2018, il nous transporte au cœur du décor naturel de la Société du domaine Maizerets où il esquisse un portrait à la fois enchanteur et provocant d’un FCVQ affamé de surprises. Un univers éclectique tout à l’image du Festival. For the past 3 years, the mandate for the production of the QCFF trailer has been passed on to a filmmaker by her or his predecessor. This year, the torch fell into the hands of Thierry Bouffard. Discovered by the general public through his feature film Feuilles mortes (2016), Thierry is a seasoned filmmaker whose career covers several pages of credits, including short films and advertising. For the 2018 trailer, he takes us into the heart of the natural setting of the Société du domaine Maizerets, where he sketches an enchanting and provocative portrait of a QCFF that is hungry for surprises. Le FCVQ ne pourrait pas aussi bien se déployer sans le soutien de Transport Guilbault. Depuis 2016, l’organisation est au cœur de notre logistique de transport et de nos besoins d’entreposage. Ces spécialistes logisticiens collaborent à faire de notre Festival une organisation souple et surtout autonome. Transport Guilbault, c’est plus de 800 employés qui gèrent au-delà de 600 000 expéditions par année. C’est également 40 millions de kilomètres parcourus annuellement. Nous sommes fiers d’être inscrits à leurs compteurs ! The QCFF could not be deployed as well without the support of Transport Guilbault. Since 2016, they have been at the core of our transport logistics and warehousing needs. More than just a helping hand, their logistics specialists collaborate to make our Festival an organization that is flexible and especially autonomous. L’univers mis en place par les designers graphiques de Criterium fait émerger cet équilibre subtil entre un environnement pittoresque, le charisme des prota gonistes et une géométrie qui, ainsi réunis, cadrent bien avec le caractère éclectique de notre manifestation cinématographique. Itinérant Gratuit - Free Le cin éma en mou vem e n t Deux conteneurs, aménagés en mini-salles de cinéma de six places, sillonnent la ville de Québec durant l’été pour aller à la rencontre des habitants et des touristes afin de leur donner un avant-goût du Festival ! Le public peut y visionner gratuitement des programmes de courts métrages, qui mettent de l’avant différents films présentés au FCVQ 2017. Découvertes et plaisir garantis ! Nous remercions l’Université Laval, les SDC du Vieux-Québec et du Faubourg Saint-Jean, ainsi que les bibliothèques Paul-AiméPaiement, Étienne-Parent, Gabrielle-Roy et Monique-Corriveau d’avoir rendu possible la tenue d’un CinéPopUp dans leur secteur respectif.

During the summer, two containers converted into mini-cinema halls with six seats will be installed in Quebec City to gives locals as well as visitors a preview of the Festival. These free presentations offer viewers a program of short films that include family and prize-winning films. New discoveries and fun guaranteed! James Bond Megamix Exhibition Vernissage / Launch : 7 sept. 18h. Exposition / Exhibition : 8 sept. au 14 oct. Gratuit - Free L’exposition de l’artiste Oli Sorenson débarque à La Bande Vidéo. James Bond Megamix consiste à effacer les scènes des 24 films officiels de James Bond où le personnage principal est vu ou entendu. Ce projet vise à questionner la position centrale du héros, souvent attribuée à un jeune homme, pour accorder une plus grande présence aux personnages secondaires, qui tendent à incarner plus de diversité. La galerie de La Bande Vidéo est ouverte du mercredi au dimanche de 12h à 17h et est située au 620 Côte d’Abraham.

Artist Oli Sorenson’s exhibition will be held at the La Bande Vidéo gallery. James Bond Megamix consists of erasing scenes from the 24 official James Bond films where the main character is seen or heard. This project aims to question the central role of the hero, who is often a young man, to give more visibility to secondary characters, who tend to manifest more diversity. The La Bande Vidéo gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM and is located at 620 Côte d’Abraham.

CINÉPHILO 18 sept. 19h - PDY Gratuit - Free Initié et animé par le Département de philosophie du Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon, CinéPhilo invite les étudiant-es et le public à réfléchir à des questions philosophiques à l’aide du cinéma. Pour cette troisième édition publique, CinéPhilo transforme la place D’Youville en véritable agora grecque. La population y est conviée afin de discuter d’une question existentielle inspirée par le visionnement de trois courts métrages. Aucune notion de philosophie n’est requise, le désir de réfléchir suffit. Annulation de l’activité en cas de conditions météorologiques défavorables. Launched and hosted by the Department of Philosophy at Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon, CinéPhilo invites students and the public to reflect on philosophical questions using film. For this third public edition, CinéPhilo will transform place D’Youville into a real Greek agora. Everyone is invited to discuss an existential question inspired by the viewing of three short films. No prior knowledge of philosophy is required, the desire to contemplate is enough. The event will be cancelled in the case of bad weather. PechaKucha, c’est une série d’événements créatifs organisés dans plus de 1000 villes à travers le monde ! Le 19 septembre, à Québec, 12 conférenciers d’horizons variés partageront la scène, inspirés par le thème « Représentations ». Chacun prendra la parole pendant six minutes 40 secondes, accompagné d’un support visuel – 20 images s’affichant durant 20 secondes chacune à l’écran et défilant de façon autom atique. On September 19 th, in Quebec City, 12 presenters from various disciplines will share the stage, inspired by the theme "Representation". Each will speak 6 minutes and 40 seconds, accompagnied by a visual support – 20 images, which will be seen onscreen 20 secondes each, passing automatically, out of the presenter’s control.
