T

he Cairn Terrier dog breed is a small working terrier developed on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Farmers used him to rid their property of vermin, and they needed a dog with courage, tenacity, and intelligence — characteristics still found in today’s Cairn. He is a sensible, independent, and friendly dog who excels as a family companion.

Toward the end of the 19th century, Scottish Terrier breeders began to select for different characteristics, colour among them. The West Highland White Terrier became a separate breed in 1908.

In 1912, the Cairn Terrier was designated as a breed, taking its name from the piles of stones that marked ancient Scottish burial or memorial sites. These stone piles were often hideouts for the vermin If you’ve seen the movie The Wizard of Oz, sought by the terriers. you’ve seen one of the most famous Cairn Terriers ever. That same year, the Cairn Terrier Club of America was granted AKC membership.

The Cairn Terrier was developed more than 200 years ago on the Isle of Skye, where Captain Martin MacLeod is credited with developing one of the oldest strains The Cairn Terrier is a wonderfully friendly of the breed. dog. These breeds were distinguished only by colour, as all three could come from the same litter. A club for HardHaired Scotch Terriers was formed for the three breeds in 1881; a standard was approved in 1882.

Though independent, the Cairn is devoted to his family and is happiest when he’s part of his owners’ daily lives. He likes to be in the house, playing with the kids, following you room to room, joining you at the front door when you greet a friend. He’s also known for being sensitive. He

doesn’t like to be scolded and is upset when you’re not happy with him. Temperament is affected by a number of factors, including heredity, training, and socialization. Puppies with nice temperaments are curious and playful, willing to approach people and be held by them. Choose the middle-of-the-road puppy, not the one who’s beating up his littermates or the one who’s hiding in the corner. Always meet at least one of the parents — usually the mother is the one who’s available — to ensure that they have nice temperaments that you’re comfortable with. Meeting siblings or other relatives of the parents is also helpful for evaluating what a puppy will be like when he grows up. Like every dog, the Cairn needs early socialization — exposure to many different people, sights, sounds, and experiences — when they’re young.

6

Socialization helps ensure that your Cairn puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog. Enrolling him in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking him to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbours will also help him polish his social skills.

Back-to-school Stress How do we handle this?

Written by: Yolandi Singleton (Supervisor: Assessments and Therapy Unit at Child Welfare Tshwane)

Oh goodness! Her suitcase is broken (rapid heartbeat), he lost some of his stationary (heartbeat goes faster), the hem of my daughter’s school skirt is still loose (heartbeat raises more and more), my boy needs a new pair of pants and school starts tomorrow (heartbeat gets out of control), what will the teachers think of me as a parent if my child does not have everything he needs‌ Does this chaos sound familiar? I think each and every parent can to some extent relate to this huge amount of pressure when thinking about the Back-to-school scenario. The question is, can you afford this stress each and every year, always waiting until number 99 to get everything done, starting the year off on the perfect wrong note?

8

Open and honest communication with any human being remains the best way to discuss and solve any kind of matter. That does not exclude your child. I have learned in my career that children have a great appreciation for when their parents or the significant adults in their lives talk to them and guide them through the different paths of life. Okay yes, some children are a bit stubborn to admit that you are right, but they most certainly absorb your words and actions as the default to their modus operandi. Firstly, it is important to realise that when one is emotional, to try to reason logically with anyone is simply a waste of time, in other words, it only really works to try to talk sense into someone’s mind if they are in a good emotional state of mind. A well-balanced state of mind also makes better decisions and think more rationally. Therefore, during the holiday season where you feel more relaxed

and is probably in a good state of mind (I know it takes some time to switch off from work things), it is definitely the best time to have conversations and get prepared for the new school year. You have probably picked up on topics and areas regarding the school environment and system that often bring about feelings of anxiety and stress within you and your children. If not, it is time to sit and think about it, because the most important aspect of tackling your stressors is to be able to identify them first – in other words, know your giant before facing it. These stressors could include, issues with a teacher, a bully, homework and choosing which extra-mural activities to pursue. Talk calmly about these issues during the holiday and place out what a possible plan of action would be. You and your child can then feel less stressed and more prepared to take on the new year. Try to find a mid-way with a teacher and strive towards finding solutions instead of creating more problems with them. Teach your child to stand boldly in front of a bully with confidence without showing any weakness, because we all know a bully loves the control and to witness the fear on his victim’s face. A bully is also a child in need of love. Teach your child to give the bully exactly what they do not expect – love. The bully will then not feel satisfied as he has not achieved what he wanted to. I am not talking about when your child gets beaten up by a bully – that should be reported immediately. Before school starts decide together on how and when homework and

assignments will be done. In general, put up a default list on the fridge with all the duties for the evening in a specific chronological order because that helps you and your child to follow a routine and it encourages predictability which brings about balanced children. This list can include things such as, play time (more on that later in the article), homework, bath, getting clothes and books ready for tomorrow, dinner and sleep time. Exposure to different types of extra-mural activities is a good idea as it, amongst other reasons, provides children with the opportunity to find their passion, but it is certainly not a good idea to bombard your child with too much where there is much lesser time for free play or spend time with family. Children might appear to cope with everything on their plate, but often at some point get overwhelmed, leading to anxiety and stress. Some children do not feel comfortable to tell their parents that they struggle to juggle everything as they want to avoid any disappointments. Therefore, choose their activities wisely and regularly monitor your child to see if they cope with all the different demands. The way we think remains our choice. When talking to your child about school, ask them to list at least two positive things about school. If they struggle to name any, make suggestions. It could also be beneficial to practice solving a problem from a high pathetically scenario. For example, what do we do when a frog enters the house. Encourage the child to think about possible solutions to get the frog out of the house without hurting it. Bring in your own suggestions. At

9

the same time, make it humoristic and have a good laugh together. Remember to praise your child for their attempts in finding a solution. Thereafter, think about typical school-related challenges and discuss different possible solutions. Also, discuss and decide together on the time to get up in the morning for school and bedtime during the week and the consequences that will follow if this is not adhered to, but keep the conversation light.

Lastly, do not hesitate to get your child a probiotic and also fill up on the vitamin B and C on a daily basis. Encourage exercise, even if it is done during their free play time. Do not be too hard on yourself or your child. Be there for them through the good and bad times, because they will certainly remember your presence way more than your presents.

Enjoy the school years with your child and embrace every phase of Never ever underestimate the power development! It goes by very quickly! and necessity of free play time for your child. It is not a sin to invest proper time in yourself, in fact your children will benefit from a parent who feels fulfilled.

10 Sure Ways to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions Another year ended and many of us gathered up our willpower for a brand new set of New Year’s resolutions. But have we learned from past experience? A large number, if not the majority, of previous resolutions were probably broken in weeks, days, or even hours. So, how to make this time round more successful? Well it’s not as hard as you might think — there are some really easy ways to set yourself on the path to success, and the first is:

1

Keep your resolutions simple. Sometimes people find themselves aiming for an overhaul of their entire lifestyle, and this is simply

a recipe for disappointment and guilt. It may be understandable at this time of year when selfimprovement is on your mind, but experience shows these things can’t all be achieved at once. The best approach is to focus clearly on one or two of your most important goals.

2

Choose carefully. But which to choose? Well, you might like to concentrate on those that will have the greatest impact on your happiness, health and fulfilment. For example, giving up smoking will obviously improve your health, but it will also give you a sense of pride and will make you happy (but perhaps not immediately!)

3

Be realistic. Don’t aim too high and ignore reality – consider your previous experience with resolutions. What led to failure then? It may be that you resolved to lose too much weight or save an unrealistic amount of money. Remember, there will always be more opportunities to start on the next phase, so set realistic goals. Or if you don’t want to hold back, set clear short-term goals on your way to a big achievement. Which leads to tip number four.

13

4

Create bite-sized portions. Break goals down to manageable chunks. This is perhaps the most essential ingredient for success, as the more planning you do now, the more likely you are to get there in the end. The planning process is when you build up that all-important willpower which you will undoubtedly need to fall back on along the way. Set clear, realistic goals such as losing 5 pounds, saving $30 a month, or going for a run once a week. Decide exactly how you will make this happen.

motivations. You could keep a scrapbook for this purpose, and fill it with photos of your slimmer self, pictures of sporting or hobby equipment you are saving for, or even a shocking credit card statement to spur you into action! If your resolution will directly benefit your partner, children, colleagues or friends then add their photos too – anything to remind you of your initial motivation.

7

Treat yourself. When making your plan, a vital feature should be the rewards and treats you Plan a time-frame. In fact, will give yourself at those allthe time-frame is vital important milestones. DIRECTIONS:

1. Pre-heat the oven to 180oC. Line a baking sheet with aluminium foil then lightly mist it with cooking spray and set aside. 2. In a large bowl, combine the bread crumbs, egg and skim milk and stir until mixed. Add the ground beef and stir in until thoroughly combined. Split the meat mixture into 12 equal pieces and roll them into balls. Set the balls on the prepared baking sheet and put them in the over to bake for 25 minutes at 180oC. 3. While the meatballs bake, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the broken spaghetti pieces according to package directions. Drain the spaghetti and set it aside to cool (I actually stuck mine in the fridge for a few minutes. It doesn’t need to be cold, but you don’t want it to be too hot to handle when you press it into the cups). 4. When the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and place them in a saucepot with 1 ½ cups of marinara sauce. Bring the meatballs and sauce over low heat on the stovetop, just to keep it all warm. Stir occasionally. Turn the heat on the oven up to 200oC. 5. When the pasta is cooled enough to handle, whisk the egg whites together in a large bowl and then add the pasta. Stir to combine and then add the Parmesan, Mozzarella, and 3 tablespoons of the marinara sauce. Mix together until thoroughly combined. 6. Lightly mist a 12 cup muffin tin with cooking spray. Place about 1/3 cup of the spaghetti mixture into each cup in the muffin tin. Using your fingers, press down on the centre and up the sides of the spaghetti, forming cups. Slide the tin into the pre-heated oven and bake for 15 minutes at 200. 7. When the spaghetti cups are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a moment before removing them from the tin. When ready to serve, pour a tablespoon of marinara sauce from the pot into the centre of a spaghetti cup, top it with a meatball, and follow it with another tablespoon of marinara. If you are planning to have leftovers, I suggest storing the sauce & meatballs in one container and the spaghetti cups in another and assembling them right before eating.

Are fireworks harming the environment?

n some countries like Germany, it’s not New Year’s Eve without a night sky full of fireworks. But how bad are these colourful explosions for our environment? And what are the health effects? Starting a new year can be costly. Germans, for instance, send €100 to 200 million ($240 million) up in smoke every New Year’s Eve, as spectacular fireworks display light up the sky above villages and cities across the country. But the annual tradition also has an environmental cost, with each rocket releasing a toxic mix of chemicals and particulates into the air. What’s actually hidden inside fireworks?

“Each rocket consists of about 75 percent potassium nitrate, 15 percent charcoal and 10 percent sulfur,” said Günter Klein-Sommer, a chemist and pyrotechnist, speaking at a recent lecture on the chemistry of pyrotechnics at the University of Cologne. Depending on the desired effects, other components might be added, including copper, barium or strontium compounds. These end up colouring the fireworks blue, green or red. All of these chemicals require high amounts of energy to be produced, only to fizzle out in a few short seconds, critics have argued. Toxic trace In 2016, fireworks produced

He wanted to get my attention. Well He it very clear that I would only do it if He met certain conditions: certainly did! He had to make sure that the

mission would be a success. He had to look after our kids, parents, finances etc. He apparently accepted and at that point I decided to leave it all to Him; He knew what I required of Him and I could not do it myself anyway as I found out after eight years of frustration. (Yes, I did apologise for my arrogance later.) Not long after that a prophet told me that God was about to teach me stuff that would blow my mind. His last words were: “God is going to teach you about grace.” I did not think much of this because I knew the Bible inside out! What could He teach me that was so profound? Then about three months later I received a CD from someone. I listened to it and immediately it resonated in my spirit like nothing before. I, together with my dear friend Anton van der Merwe visited the website of the preacher (John Sheasby) and started downloading more of his teachings. From that day I learned more about the Bible (without reading it much) than from all the previous effort I put in. We are still in South Africa (2016) as God is still working in the background to prepare us and also the people that we have to touch. The day will come when we will see Jesus working in Sierra Leone and that day we will join Him. In the meantime though, He has much to do in our lives. He decided to teach us about grace as the foundation for what He wants

30

to achieve through us. I consider grace as the foundation for any Christian’s life it’s not the goal; it’s the starting point. From this knowledge we can start to pursue a relationship with Him and from there He can accomplish His purposes in and through us – whatever they are.

You cannot build a noteworthy building on a crooked foundation and therefore He started in us with the gospel of grace. I made much of the fact that I do not want to go and waste our time; if w were to go, it had to be a success. That’ why He decided to give us the gospel of grace because without it we are almost guaranteed to fail since we would rely on our own abilities.

In conclusion I include a list of resources that He used to teach us the true gospe There are many more, but these I can recommend: Books:

At Home in the Father’s house – John Sheasby (Available on Kindle). Destined to Reign – Joseph Prince (Available on Kindle). Unmerited Favour – Joseph Prince (Available on Kindle). Grace Walk – Steve McVey (Available on Kindle).

God without Religion – Andrew Farley (Available on Kindle). Grace, the forbidden Gospel – Andre van der Merwe. Sanctification by Grace – Ryan Rufus (Available on Kindle). The Grace of God – Andy Stanley (Available on Kindle).

o we On John’s website (www.liberatedliving. ’s com) there are many hours of free f teachings on the subject of grace – from the covenants to sonship; from the Holy Spirit to anointing. Almost everything that I teach is there; and more. I learned much from him and can recommend his s teachings. Joseph Prince’s teachings are el. also excellent and his CDs and DVDs are available at stores like CUM Books. He is more palatable than John who is more hardcore.

n

I downloaded most of the books to my phone from the Kindle store. It’s cheaper, quicker and you always have access to them. I hope that I’ve made the road ahead a little easier and may God bless you on this road.

Exercise during pregnancy

F

alling pregnant is one of the biggest changes that can happen in a woman’s life. Suddenly, you go from having just yourself to worry about, to having a little human growing in you. With this realization comes the natural nervousness about doing anything to harm your unborn child. For many years women were told not

to exercise during pregnancy, not to let their heart rate get above 140 beats per minute, and a myriad of other things that have since been proven not only safe during pregnancy, but actually beneficial. As long as you follow your doctor’s advice, listen to your body, and follow the revised guidelines, exercising whilst pregnant holds many benefits for both you and your baby. It has been shown to reduce backaches, constipation, bloating, swelling, weight gain, risk of

gestational diabetes, nausea, and prenatal depression. You’ll likely also sleep better, have better self-esteem, experience easier labour and delivery, have more energy, improve your chances of having a natural birth, be able to recover faster after delivery, feel more in control of your body, and keep your immune system strong. As a personal trainer, I have trained many clients through their pregnancies. All have delivered happy, healthy babies; and they’ve all said that they are eternally grateful that they maintained their active lives throughout. That being said, there are some guidelines to follow, which I have outlined below:

heart rate during pregnancy. • Hydrate! Drink tons of water and make sure you’re eating properly. • Listen to your body. If something feels painful or wrong, stop. Now is not the time to turn yourself into Wonder Woman. Your body is incredibly intuitive, listen to it. Exercise during the first trimester: During this period you will not yet be noticing massive physical changes. The most common complaint in the first 3 months of pregnancy is decreased energy. Ensure that you are eating and sleeping properly, and do only what your body is capable of.

General rules to follow when exercising Even if you are in the early stages of pregnancy, please inform your trainer! pregnant: We need to know what is happening to • First and foremost, follow your your body in order to take care of it. doctor’s advice. After the decreased drastically. energy most women feel in the first • A common myth is that it’s dangerous to get your heart rate above 140 beats per minute during pregnancy. This is not based on any solid fact. Use your rate of perceived exertion (how tired you are) and your doctor’s advice to determine your ideal

trimester, the second trimester usually brings a surge of energy. This obviously makes working out easier and more enjoyable! During your pregnancy, your body will release an increased amount of relaxin (the hormone responsible for loosening and softening ligaments).

This means that you need to be a little more careful of injury, as joints that are too lax and flexible may get injured more easily. Depending on your body, you may start to seriously show around this time. This increase in your bump size leads to a change in your centre of gravity, which may make you more prone to falls. Avoid any exercise that poses a risk of falling or that makes you feel unsafe/ unstable. At this point, it is advisable to avoid exercises which require you to lie on your back. Lastly, avoid exercises that are very strenuous on your abdominal muscles, as the risk of diastasis recti (when your abdominal muscles separate due to the pressure of your growing uterus) increases when performing them. Exercise during the third trimester: This is where it really comes down to listening to your body. This stage of pregnancy is defined by constant changes. If you are feeling tired on a day, take it easy. If you have a sudden surge of energy, use it. Do what is comfortable and enjoyable for you. What should I look out for? If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop exercising immediately and consult your doctor. (Note: experiencing any of these symptoms does not necessarily mean anything is wrong or you will not be able to exercise for the rest of your pregnancy.) • Decreased foetal movement

• Dizziness or a feeling of faintness • Headache • Heart palpitations • Calf pain or swelling (which could indicate a blood clot) • Vaginal bleeding • Chest pain • Recurring abdominal pain or contractions • Fluid leaking (or gushing) from your vagina • Shortness of breath (This is common during pregnancy but can sometimes signal a problem such as asthma or fluid in the lungs.) Exercise during pregnancy is not only safe; it’s extremely beneficial to both you and your baby (and anyone at the mercy of your raging hormones). Find something you enjoy doing, look after yourself, and you should have an amazing, exciting and healthy pregnancy!

5 New Year’s Resolutions Cats Will Absolutely Break The New Year is here, which traditionally means we all come up with a list of virtuous and wholesome resolutions to keep throughout the year in a bid to better ourselves. Well, that’s the idea. Usually, we keep to the resolutions for a few weeks before we discover that our old habits were, admittedly, far more fun. As you’d imagine, this idea of skipping out on resolutions is something that cats are all about, too. Here are five new year’s resolutions that cats are guaranteed to break within minutes.

44

1

Snack Responsibly. We all know that it can be hard to keep our cat’s weight in check and at a healthy level, especially when we’re talking about indoor cats. So an obvious new year’s resolution would be to cut down on all those tasty treat times. Yeah, right. At the first sound of the treat bag being shaken, your feline will awaken from their nap and dart straight to the source to snack with gusto.

2

Nap Less, Exercise More. Most of us humans will be vowing to stick to some form of a resolution that involves getting up off the couch,

delaying the latest must watch binge show, and exercising more, whether it’s taking up a new class or upping our daily steps. This is not a line of thinking that your cat will be getting on board with, as the expression on your feline’s face will tell you if you dare waking them up from a nap.

3

Let Your Human Sleep More. Conversely, while cats are determined to sleep just as much as ever during 2019, they’re also apparently just as determined to keep on waking their humans up as frequently as possible, whether it’s for 3am play sessions or 5am demands to be fed.

4

prominently stuck all over your clothing. Naturally, cats are determined to do absolutely nothing about this in 2019. They will continue to shed all over your clothes and furniture in the most conspicuous way possible.

5

Respect Your Human’s Property. Whether furniture or consumer electronics, there’s a 99 percent chance that when you bring something new into your home, your cat is going to automatically assume that it is theirs. Usually, claiming this new property involves napping on it. This will definitely not be changing in 2019. Do you have any new year’s resolutions in mind for your own cat? Share them in the comments below!

Shed Less. There’s nothing like leaving your home for an important work meeting or social soiree, then realizing that you have cat hair

5 Exotic Facts About Havana Brown Cats

T

he Havana Brown is one of several ancient cat breeds, including the Siamese and the Burmese, that’s said to have ties to Siam (today known as Thailand). Get to know the glossy, brown kitty with the sleek body and big green eyes.

1. THE BREED IS A 20TH CENTURY RECREATION. Nobody quite knows when cats resembling today’s Havana Brown first developed, but historic records indicate that it was likely centuries ago. Produced sometime between the 14th and 18th centuries, a Thai manuscript called the Tamra Maew, or “The Cat Book Poems,” provides an early depiction of the country’s cats—including a feline that’s said to resemble today’s Havana Brown.

popularity peaked, enthusiasm for its brown cousin waned. Thanks in part to new standards imposed by the Siamese Cat Club of Britain— who preferred cats with pointed coats and blue eyes—breeders stopped trying to continue the brown cat’s bloodline. By the end of World War II, very few, if any, of these brown cats still existed in Europe.

In the early 1950s, English breeders became interested in recreating the long-lost brown cat. They joined The cat first left its native shores forces to develop a feline with a when it was shipped to Britain solid-coloured body that matched in the late 19th century. Records the shade of a Siamese kitty’s describing the kitty’s appearance chocolate brown points. By crossing reportedly referred to it as a seal point Siamese cats, chocolate “Siamese, with coats of burnished point Siamese, domestic black chestnut and greeny-blue eyes,” and shorthairs, and a little Russian Blue, cat fanciers reportedly nicknamed the breeders eventually achieved the brown kitty the “Swiss Mountain their goal of producing a darkCat.” (It’s unclear whether they coloured feline that resembled its thought it actually hailed from ancient ancestors. Switzerland or not.) By the 1950s, the British Governing The “Swiss Mountain cats” were Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) exhibited in early cat shows across had accepted the glossy, dark cat Europe, but as the Siamese cat’s for championship status. Around

the same time, the first Havana Brown—a female cat named Roofspringer Mahogany Quinn— arrived in the United States. Today, most Havana Brown owners in the U.S. can trace their cat’s lineage back to her. In 1964, the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) officially recognized the Havana Brown for championship status.

2. IT’S UNCLEAR WHERE THE HAVANA BROWN GETS ITS NAME. “Havana Brown” sounds less like a cat breed name and more like a trendy Pantone colour. No one actually knows where the sleek kitty got this unusual moniker— and in fact, it was originally called the Chestnut Foreign Shorthair before its name was changed to the Havana Brown in 1970. (According to some sources, the cat was also called the Chestnut Brown, or the Chestnut Brown Oriental.) Cat aficionados typically explain its origin with two stories: Some people say the feline was named after the Havana rabbit, a bunny that first appeared in the Netherlands in the late 19th century. It comes in several different shades, including a rich brown that some people say is similar to the Havana Brown cat’s colouring. Meanwhile, others say the Havana Brown was named after the rich, lustrous colour of fine Cuban cigars. Both stories might be fictional—but they’re certainly fun to recount to other cat lovers.

3. THE HAVANA BROWN IS SUBTLY DIFFERENT FROM THE SIAMESE. Early breeders used Siamese cats to create today’s Havana Brown, so the kitty is naturally compared to its sleek, pale relatives. The two have plenty in common: They’re both slender, medium-sized cats with short fur that have heads longer than they are wide. But if you look closely, you’ll see there are differences between the two felines. Aside from its darker fur and brilliant green eyes (the Siamese typically has pure blue eyes), the Havana Brown is a tad stockier than its lithe cousin, and its ears—which are large, round-tipped, and forward slanting—are subtly distinct from the Siamese cat’s “bat-like” flared ears. Its muzzle is rounder than the Siamese’s triangular one, and the Havana Brown is required to have brown whiskers.

4. THE HAVANA BROWN IS A RARE BREED. Even though the Havana Brown came to the U.S. in the late 1950s, it’s still very rare in the U.S. According to the CFA’s 2014 registration statistics, the kitty was only the 36th most popular cat out of the organization’s 43 listed types. One article estimates that fewer than 1000 Havana Browns exist in the world—and while we don’t have any data to support this claim, Nancy Robbins’s book Domestic Cats: Their History, Breeds and Other Facts (2012)

says that by the late 1990s, there were only 12 CFA-registered Havana Brown catteries, and only 130 unaltered pedigreed cats, left in the U.S.

5. THE HAVANA BROWN IS SIMPLY CALLED THE HAVANA (OR THE ORIENTAL) IN EUROPE. The Havana Brown breed changed dramatically when it left England and came to America during the 1950s. UK breeders continued to further the Havana Brown bloodline by mating the kitty with Siamese cats, but in North America breeders did not use the Siamese. Today, there are two different-looking versions of the cat—one that’s European, and another that’s allAmerican. The European cat is more angular, like the Siamese, and has a wedgeshaped head, straight profile, large ears, and an elongated body. From there on, things get a bit confusing: The International Cat Association (TICA) calls the cat the Havana, and accepts a version of the cat in lilac, or pinkish-grey. Meanwhile, other cat registries refer to this type of feline as a variant of another breed, the Oriental Shorthair.

Seafire Natalie C. Parker After her family is killed by corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his bloodthirsty army of Bullets, Caledonia Styx is left to chart her own course on the dangerous and deadly seas. She captains her ship, the Mors Navis, with a crew of girls and women just like her, who have lost their families and homes because of Aric and his men. The crew has one mission: stay alive, and take down Aric’s armed and armored fleet. But when Caledonia’s best friend and second-in-command barely survives an attack thanks to help from a Bullet looking to defect, Caledonia finds herself questioning whether to let him join their crew. Is this boy the key to taking down Aric Athair once and for all… or will he threaten everything the women of the Mors Navis have worked for? The first in a heart-stopping trilogy that recalls the undeniable feminine power of Wonder Woman and the powder-keg action of Mad Max: Fury Road, Seafire reminds us of the importance of sisterhood and unity in the face of oppression and tyranny.
