reat Tech for Industry is a new editorial project of ANIMA – Confindustria Mechanical Engineering, aimed at promoting several excellences expressed by Italian manufacturing mechanical sector. The real technological Made in Italy is indeed represented today by mechanical engineering, the turnover of which on international markets is equal by now to that of Food, Design e Fashion altogether. Yet, notwithstanding this good reputation we need to work again so to assert full awareness that the above results were obtained through competent and ongoing activity of a great manufacturing system. As a matter of fact, these companies are interacting for supplying products of primary quality and reliability, and specially appreciated for tailor-made solutions for professional customers’ requirements. Great Tech for Industry has been conceived with this purpose, a platform open to cooperation of both organizations and companies, aimed at presenting detailed information and actual testimonies of true Italian excellences. In this framework there are technologies, products and vanguard solutions for worldwide manufacturing industry. A wide range of high quality solutions for any kind of destination markets from food production to pharmaceutical, from automotive to aerospace, from building to Oil&Gas, from agribusiness to infrastructures, from energy to water. Great Tech for Industry è un nuovo progetto editoriale di Anima - Confindustria Meccanica Varia, finalizzato a promuovere le tante eccellenze che la nostra manifattura meccanica italiana esprime. Interview to Massimo Carboniero, Ucimu President

Tool machines, knowhow of production wins

“W

hat do I see every day as entrepreneur? Customers turn to us not so much for a product but for our knowhow of manufacturing. This concerns most of our Italian companies”. Massimo Carboniero runs the Omera, family company, in the Vicenza district, which has been operating for 65 years in sheet processing; and since June he is leading the Association UCIMU – Systems for manufacturing. He talks of the Italian industry of tool machines which is more and more a careful partner for its own customers. “This is the advantage of the Italy System” Carboniero explains “our industry is acknowledged worldwide for its high technological standards and ability to manufacture tailor-made machines, which differenziate us from the other international manufacturers”. A sector, that of tool machines, which is indeed an important pillar for the Italian national economy: “As for production volume we are fifth in the world and third as for export” Carboniero says moreover. It is not by chance that the high export share be an ongoing aspect for Italian companies of the sector. “65% of the 20 Million euro of our production comes from export.” - Carboniero goes on - “This is a typical aspect of our whole branch, independently from size: we are all small and medium companies ranging from 20 to 500 workers, most of which under 100.” A formula which keeps a positive trend in the internationalization activity, also in view of smart industry and notwithstanding the still uncertain world geopolitical scenario.

“Cosa vedo tutti i giorni come imprenditore? I clienti si rivolgono a noi non tanto per un prodotto, ma per il nostro know how di produzione. E questo vale per la maggior parte delle aziende italiane”. Massimo Carboniero dirige l’azienda di famiglia, la Omera, nel vicentino, attiva da 67 anni nella lavorazione della lamiera; ed è alla guida dell’associazione Ucimu-Sistemi per produrre. Ci parla di un’industria italiana della macchina utensile sempre più partner produttivo per il proprio cliente. “È questo il vantaggio del Sistema Italia;” spiega Carboniero – “la nostra industria è riconosciuta in tutto il mondo per gli elevati standard tecnologici, e per la capacità di produrre macchine altamente personalizzate in base alle specifiche esigenze del cliente che ci contraddistingue dagli altri produttori mondiali.” Un settore, quello della macchina utensile, che del resto è una colonna importante della stessa economia nazionale: “Come volume di produzione siamo i quinti al mondo e terzi come volumi di export” – continua infatti Carboniero – “e non è un caso che l’alta componente di export sia una costante per le aziende italiane del settore. Su 20 milioni del nostro fatturato, come azienda, il 65% deriva dalle esportazioni” – continua Carboniero – “una caratteristica propria di tutto il comparto, a prescindere dalla dimensione: siamo tutte piccole e medie imprese che vanno dai 20 ai 500 dipendenti, di cui la maggior parte sotto i 100.” Una formula che mantiene un andamento positivo nell’attività di internazionalizzazione, anche in prospettiva di smart industry e nonostante un contesto geopolitico ancora incerto. 3

Winning combination of technology and competence “T

he development concerning the whole industrial world is a structural change of business models and of the ways with whom companies may and must create value.” So declares Domenico Di Monte, President of Assofluid and Marketing Manager of Camozzi. “It is a great opportunity for every company which is quickly organizing to meet with customer requirements by matching new technologies with what is – in my opinion – the real enabling factor for carry out 4.0 solutions: the competences.” “Italian companies have industrial and technical knowhow matched with great creativity and flexibility. The real challenge will be thus to develop these aspects together by using potential of digitalization” – continues Di Monte – “Within fluid power branch we actually manufacture solutions to be integrated into 4.0 machines which for instance should transfer and process operation data in real time and even integrate self-learning systems.” At the same time it becomes more and more important the way in which the product is realized, the smart process which beyond optimizing production phases allows to increase service level for customers, for example by decreasing lead times, constantly tracing components and enhancing efficiency thanks to predictive maintenance. “Growth figures of 2016 – Di Monte concludes – will actually be confirmed in 2017 as well: the first nine months 2017 recorded an increase of production by 10,6% for hydraulics and 8,6% for pneumatics. We are going through a positive phase and this is the ideal situation for investing in the future”.

“L’attuale evoluzione del mondo industriale rappresenta un cambiamento strutturale dei modelli di business e delle modalità con cui le aziende possono e devono creare valore.” Così afferma Domenico Di Monte, Presidente Assofluid e Marketing Manager di Camozzi. “Si tratta di una grande opportunità per tutte le aziende che rapidamente si stanno organizzando per rispondere alle esigenze dei clienti, combinando le nuove tecnologie con quello che a mio avviso è il principale fattore abilitante per realizzare soluzioni 4.0: le competenze“. “Le aziende italiane hanno conoscenze industriali e tecniche unite a grande creatività e flessibilità: la vera sfida sarà dunque sviluppare congiuntamente queste caratteristiche sfruttando le potenzialità della digitalizzazione.” – continua Di Monte – “Nel settore del fluid power di fatto sviluppiamo soluzioni da integrare in macchine 4.0 che devono ad esempio trasmettere ed elaborare dati operativi in tempo reale e magari integrare sistemi di autoapprendimento” Allo stesso tempo assume sempre maggiore importanza la modalità con cui si realizza il prodotto, il processo ‘intelligente’ che oltre ad ottimizzare le fasi produttive, permette di aumentare il livello di servizio al cliente ad esempio riducendo i lead time, tracciando costantemente i componenti e incrementando l’efficienza grazie alla manutenzione predittiva. “I dati di crescita del 2016” – conclude Di Monte –“verranno essenzialmente confermati anche nel 2017: i primi 9 mesi del 2017 hanno registrato incrementi di fatturato del 10,6% per l’oleoidraulica e 8,6% per la pneumatica. Stiamo attraversando un momento positivo e questa è proprio la situazione ideale per investire sul futuro” 4

talian fastener manufacturers have an excellent reputation in the international scene. The President of UPIVEB Sergio Pirovano declares: ”We are present in the most important European and world markets which means competing with top companies. This is possible thanks to a strong entrepreneurial ability, a great company and group solidity. Three of the six largest producers operating in the sector are Italian and members of UPIVEB (Unione Produttori Italiani Viteria e Bulloneria – Italian Association of Fastener Manufacturers) – a non-profit association founded in Milan in 1961, which I have had the honour of chairing since 2007.” “Also small companies are well-structured, exportoriented, with excellent levels of knowledge which results in high-quality production.” – Pirovano continues – “I can say with pride that our sector brings ‘Made in Italy’ to the world.” Every day, a considerable quantity of fasteners are placed on the market in different sectors (automotive, aerospace, industrial vehicles, machinery, construction, household appliances, shipbuilding, etc.). “The global market imposes a high-quality standard for products and services, but this does not frighten our companies. We manage to satisfy the market thanks to our great corporate culture and continuous investments in research and development.” – Pirovano concludes – “These investments allow a practical evolution towards the ‘zero defects’ goal for products and even ‘Industry 5.0’ for business processes which do not therefore neglect human capital.”

Infatti, tre dei sei più grandi produttori che operano nel settore sono italiani oltre che Soci di UPIVEB (Unione Produttori Italiani Viteria e Bulloneria), Associazione no profit fondata a Milano nel 1961 che ho l’onore di presiedere dal 2007”. “Anche le piccole aziende sono comunque ben strutturate, orientate all’export e dotate di ottimi livelli di know-how che si concretizzano in una produzione di altissima qualità” – continua Pirovano – “Posso quindi affermare con orgoglio che il nostro comparto porta nel mondo il Made in Italy”. Ogni giorno un enorme quantitativo di fastener viene immesso sul mercato dei più disparati settori (automobile, aerospaziale, veicoli industriali, macchine in generale, costruzioni, elettrodomestici, navale, etc.). “In termini di prodotto e di servizi, l’altissimo livello qualitativo imposto dal mercato globale non spaventa le nostre aziende che riescono a soddisfarlo in virtù di una grande cultura d’impresa e di continui investimenti in ricerca e sviluppo.” – conclude il Presidente UPIVEB – “Questi ultimi in particolare permettono una sempre più concreta evoluzione verso lo ‘scarto zero’ per quanto riguarda il prodotto e addirittura l’Industria 5.0 per quanto riguarda il processo aziendale, quindi senza trascurare il capitale umano.” 5

Post-processing of parts produced with Additive Manufacturing techniques S

everal industrial components are now obtained with Additive Manufacturing techniques instead of conventional techniques for mass production. However, most attention is paid to the production equipment and methods used, while overlooking a large part of the stages following the printing of the objects, which are still often performed manually. In fact, after printing dust must be removed and should be recovered and reused; then, the components must be cleaned and their surfaces must be homogeneously finished in order to fit their intended use. Such steps can be very challenging, especially if the products’ design was based on one of the core purposes of AM, i.e. obtaining complex shapes in order to eliminate the need for any subsets. Rösler Italiana has learned to find effective and repeatable solutions that can even be used on very small lots, while helping to develop the products so that it is easier to treat them after printing. It can deal with all postprocessing stages both with shotblasting or sandblasting operations and with different techniques originally developed for the mass finishing field, as free abrasive processes in special mass finishing systems, spindle machines, or robotic machines. Tuttavia dopo la formatura il pezzo va liberato dalla polvere, che va possibilmente recuperata e riutilizzata; il componente prodotto va pulito, la superficie va resa omogenea e rifinita, rendendola adatta alla funzione per cui il pezzo è stato concepito. Queste fasi sono tanto più complicate quanto più la progettazione si è avvalsa delle prerogative dell’AM, cioè ottenere forme complesse eliminando così i sotto-assiemi di diversi componenti. The company employs around 170 people and is located in two strategic areas that have made the history of the Italian machine tool, where research, skills and experience have grown over time. The fiftieth anniversary of C.B.Ferrari, established in 1966, was distinguished by the new series GT, comprised of two advanced high-speed high-precision centers called GT1600 and GT2000. The series offers plenty of new features, including a new eye-catching design, and most of all, a large working area with 1,600 or 2,000 mm longitudinal stroke, 820 mm traverse and 850 mm vertical stroke, placing it at the top of its class. Both models can be configured with 3, 4 or 5 continuous axes. For the spindle it is possible to choose two types of power spindles produced by the company: 16,000 RPM with 33 kW power and 105/140 Nm torque, or 20,000 RPM with 28 kW power and 63/83 Nm torque. Also tool magazines are available in two versions, a basic 30-tool rotary wheel model and a 60tool chain-driven version with changing arm.
