Great Tech for Industry is a new editorial project of ANIMA Confindustria Meccanica Varia aimed at promoting the many excellences that Italian mechanical manufacture may express.

As a matter of fact is the truly technological made in Italy represented nowadays precisely by mechanical branch which turnover on international markets values as Food, Design and Fashion altogher.

However, notwithstanding our fame we need to work again so to affirm full awareness that the above results have been obtained through the competent and ongoing activity of a great manufacturing system.

They are indeed companies interacting with each other in order to supply products and systems of primary quality and reliability, companies particularly appreciated thanks to developed solutions, first of all for requirements of different professional customers.

With this purpose has thus been conceived Great Tech for Industry, a platform open to cooperation of both organizations and companies, which presents detailed information and actual evidences of Italian excellences.

In this framework technologies, products and vanguard solutions for global manufacturing industry are placed.

A wide variety of quality proposals, for whatever kind of destination markets: from food to pharmaceutical production; from automotive to aerospace; from building to Oil&Gas; from agribusiness to infrastructures; from energy to water.

Where it is necessary to do efficient and developed industry, there are technologies, products and turnkey plants of Italian Manufacturing System to do great difference, Great Tech for Industry represents an important showcase, for discovering and appreciating a champions’ selection of applied mechanics.

Great Tech for Industry è un nuovo progetto editoriale di Anima - Confindustria Meccanica Varia, finalizzato a promuovere le tante eccellenze che la nostra manifattura meccanica italiana esprime.

Infatti, il vero Made in Italy tecnologico è oggi rappresentato in larga parte proprio dalla meccanica che sui mercati internazionali vale per fatturato ormai quanto Food, Design e Moda considerati assieme.

Tuttavia, nonostante la nostra notorietà abbiamo bisogno di lavorare ancora per affermare la piena consapevolezza che questi risultati sono stati ottenuti attraverso il lavoro competente e continuativo di un grande sistema manifatturiero.

Si tratta di imprese che interagiscono fra loro per fornire prodotti e sistemi di primaria qualità e affidabilità. Aziende particolarmente apprezzate per soluzioni evolute, in primis sulle esigenze dei vari clienti professionali.

Nasce quindi con questo intento Great Tech for Industry, una piattaforma aperta alla collaborazione di organizzazioni e aziende, che vuole presentare precise informazioni e testimonianze reali di eccellenze italiane. In tale contesto si situano le tecnologie, i prodotti e le soluzioni d’avanguardia per l’industria manifatturiera globale. Un’ampia varietà di proposte di qualità, per qualunque tipo di mercato applicativo: dalla produzione alimentare a quella farmaceutica; dall’automotive all’aerospazio; dall’edilizia all’Oil&Gas; dall’agribusiness alle infrastrutture; dall’energia al mondo dell’acqua.

Dove c’è bisogno di fare industria efficiente ed evoluta, le tecnologie, i prodotti e gli impianti chiavi in mano dell’Italian Manufacturing System ci sono e possono fare una grande differenza.

Aggregazione e logiche di filiera per un futuro all’insegna dell’innovazione

Mr. President, can you briefly explain the reasons of the success of ANFIA member-companies in both European and world markets?

Automotive supply chain distinguishes itself for flexibility, strong inclination to product and process innovation and attitude to export, above all components.

Being part of the Association is an added value for companies since many initiatives are aimed to strengthen competitiveness and growth on foreign markets, through relations with national and international institutions, networking activity, participation in technical-standard committees and sector analysis.

International activities support companies through participation in exhibitions and missions abroad for promoting trade exchanges, by supplying economicstandard information on countries of major interest and organising b2b meetings with car makers and important players of components.

Presidente, ci può brevemente spiegare i motivi del successo delle aziende associate ANFIA nel mercato europeo e mondiale?

La filiera automotive italiana si distingue per flessibilità, forte propensione all’innovazione di prodotto e di processo e orientamento all’export, soprattutto la componentistica. Far parte dell’Associazione costituisce un valore aggiunto per le imprese perché molte iniziative mirano a rafforzarne la competitività e la crescita sui mercati esteri, attraverso relazioni con le istituzioni nazionali e internazionali, attività di networking, di partecipazione a comitati tecnico-normativi e di analisi del settore.

Le attività di internazionalizzazione supportano le imprese tramite la partecipazione a fiere e missioni all’estero per la promozione degli scambi commerciali, fornendo informazioni di tipo economico normativo sui Paesi di maggior interesse e organizzando incontri B2B con Car maker e importanti player della componentistica.

Che ruolo possono avere i territori, le associazioni e le reti d’imprese nello sviluppo di collaborazioni per favorire l’innovazione e la qualità dei prodotti?

Which role may have territories, associations and enterprise networks in developing cooperations in order to foster innovation and product quality?

The above subjects can cooperate for promoting, through the support of institutions, a path of industrial politics introducing investments in infrastructures, support to research and innovation, investments on human resources, aggregation and dimensional growth of companies, redefinition of production footprint.

Questi soggetti possono cooperare per promuovere, con l’aiuto delle istituzioni, un percorso di politica industriale che preveda investimenti in infrastrutture, supporto alle attività di ricerca e innovazione, investimenti sul capitale umano, aggregazione e crescita dimensionale delle aziende, ridefinizione del footprint produttivo.

Interview to Massimo Carboniero, Ucimu President

Macchine utensili, vince il know how di produzione

“Customers turn to us not so much for a product but for our knowhow of manufacturing. Which concerns most of our Italian companies”. Massimo Carboniero runs the Omera, family company in the Vicenza district, leader in the field of sheet metal forming machines. Moreover he is leads the Association UCIMU-Sistemi per produrre - since 2017.

He talks of the Italian industry of tool machines which is more and more a careful partner for its own customers.

“This is the advantage of the Italy System” Carboniero explains – “our industry is acknowledged worldwide for its high technological standards and ability to manufacture tailor-made machines, which diversifies us from the other international manufacturers”.

A sector, that of tool machines, which is indeed a backbone of Italian national economy: “As for production volume we are fourth in the world and third as for export, Italian manufacturers occupy the primary scene by presenting an offer that is even more competitive today thanks to digital content and interconnection integrated in the machines according to the application of Industry 4.0” – Carboniero continues – “It is not by chance that the high export share be an ongoing aspect for Italian companies of the sector despite their small size. We are all small and medium companies ranging from 20 to 500 workers, most of which under 100.” A formula which keeps a positive trend in the internationalization activity, also in view of smart industry and notwithstanding still uncertain geopolitical outlook.

“I clienti si rivolgono a noi non tanto per un prodotto, ma per il nostro know how di produzione. E questo vale per la maggior parte delle aziende italiane”.

Massimo Carboniero dirige la Omera l’azienda di famiglia nel Vicentino che è leader nel settore delle macchine per la lavorazione della lamiera ed è alla guida dell’associazione UCIMU-Sistemi per produrre - dal 2017.

Ci parla di un’industria italiana della macchina utensile sempre più partner produttivo per il proprio cliente. “È questo il vantaggio del Sistema Italia;” spiega Carboniero – “la nostra industria è riconosciuta in tutto il mondo per gli elevati standard tecnologici e per la capacità di produrre macchine altamente personalizzate in base alle specifiche esigenze del cliente che ci contraddistingue dagli altri produttori mondiali.”

Un settore, quello della macchina utensile, che è del resto una colonna portante della stessa economia nazionale: “Quarti produttori e terzi esportatori nella classifica internazionale di settore, i costruttori occupano la scena presentando un’offerta oggi ancor più competitiva grazie ai contenuti digitali e all’interconnessione inseriti nelle macchine secondo l’applicazione di Industria 4.0” – continua infatti Carboniero – “e non è un caso che l’alta componente di export sia una costante per le aziende italiane del settore nonostante le dimensioni ridotte. Siamo tutte piccole e medie imprese che vanno dai 20 ai 500 dipendenti, la maggior parte delle quali sotto i 100.” Una formula che mantiene un andamento positivo nell’attività di internazionalizzazione, anche in prospettiva di smart industry e nonostante un contesto geopolitico ancora incerto.

Domenico Di Monte, President of Assofluid

Fluid Power: system competences and integrated technological solutions Fluid Power: competenze di sistema e soluzioni tecnologiche integrate

Revolution we are facing with in all industrial sectors included Fluid Power, led companies to invest in innovating in products, productive processes and business models.

A path that foresees integration of mechatronic and digital technologies and matching of technical competences of the company history with new knowledge related to new roles. The world of fluid power is experiencing the above transformation driven by needs of OEM and end-users not requiring components but integrated solutions, which use different technologies in order to grant high performances and manage transmission, check and re-drawing up of realtime figures in a predictive way.

Today in the ecosystem where we operate does creation of value depend on the matching of several factors only controllable by interacting with other players of supply chain, hence the partnerships with companies related to IoT world, additive manufacturing and digital simulation.

All that becomes essential when after years of growth (2018 marked +7% for pneumatic production and +12,8% for fluid power systems), first figures of 2019 forecast a slowing down which will lead to searching both efficiency and optimization of investments. Italy, with a production of 3.8 billion euro, 64% of which from direct export, and an internal market of 2.4 billion, confirms as the fifth world market in fluid power.

Our products find application in leader countries in technological significant sectors, from Germany to France, from USA to China, thus we contribute to development of major world industries which makes us to improve ourselves more and more.

La rivoluzione che stiamo affrontando in tutti i settori industriali incluso il Fluid Power ha portato le aziende ad investire per innovare sia prodotti che processi produttivi e modelli di business.

Un percorso che prevede l’integrazione di tecnologie meccatroniche e digitali e la combinazione di competenze tecniche proprie della “storia” dell’azienda con nuove conoscenze associate a nuovi ruoli.

Il mondo del fluid power sta vivendo questa trasformazione trainato dalle esigenze di OEM ed end-user che richiedono non componenti ma soluzioni integrate, che utilizzano più tecnologie per garantire alte performance e gestire trasmissione, controllo e rielaborazione dei dati in real-time in ottica predittiva.

Oggi nell’ecosistema in cui operiamo la creazione di valore dipende dalla combinazione di più fattori controllabili solo interagendo con altri attori della filiera, da qui la nascita di partnership con aziende legate al mondo IoT, all’additive manufacturing o alla simulazione digitale.

Tutto questo diventa imprescindibile nel momento in cui, dopo anni di crescita (il 2018 ha segnato +7% per la produzione pneumatica e +12,8% per l’oleoidraulica), i primi dati del 2019 prospettano una frenata che porterà ad una ricerca di efficienza ed ottimizzazione degli investimenti.

L’Italia con una produzione di 3,8 mld di €, di cui il 64,8% di export diretto, ed un mercato interno di 2,4 mld si conferma il 5° mercato mondiale nel fluid power.

I nostri prodotti trovano impiego in tutti i Paesi leader in settori tecnologicamente importanti, dalla Germania alla Francia, dagli USA alla Cina, dunque contribuiamo allo sviluppo delle principali industrie mondiali e questo non può che spingerci a migliorare costantemente.

Why we bring Italian excellence to the world Perché portiamo l’eccellenza italiana nel mondo

Italian fastener manufacturers have an excellent reputation in the international scene. The President of UPIVEB Sergio Pirovano declares: ”We are present in the most important European and world markets which means competing with top companies.

This is possible thanks to a strong entrepreneurial ability, a great company and group solidity.

Three of the six largest producers operating in the sector are Italian and members of UPIVEB (Unione Produttori Italiani Viteria e Bulloneria – Italian Association of Fastener Manufacturers) – a non-profit association founded in Milan in 1961, which I have had the honour of chairing since 2007.”

“Also small companies are well-structured, export-oriented, with excellent levels of knowledge which results in highquality production.” – Pirovano continues – “I can say with pride that our sector brings ‘Made in Italy’ to the world.”

Every day, a considerable quantity of fasteners are placed on the market in different sectors (automotive, aerospace, industrial vehicles, machinery, construction, household appliances, shipbuilding, etc.).

“The global market imposes a high-quality standard for products and services, but this does not frighten our companies.

We manage to satisfy the market thanks to our great corporate culture and continuous investments in research and development.” – Pirovano concludes – “These investments allow a practical evolution towards the ‘zero defects’ goal for products and even ‘Industry 5.0’ for business processes which do not therefore neglect human capital.”

I produttori italiani di viteria e bulloneria godono di una brillante immagine in ambito internazionale. il Presidente di UPIVEB Sergio Pirovano dichiara: “Oggi siamo posizionati sui più importanti mercati europei e mondiali e questo ci porta a competere con le aziende più rappresentative grazie ad una spiccata capacità imprenditoriale ma anche grazie ad una grande solidità aziendale e di gruppo. Infatti, tre dei sei più grandi produttori che operano nel settore sono italiani oltre che Soci di UPIVEB (Unione Produttori Italiani Viteria e Bulloneria), Associazione no profit fondata a Milano nel 1961 che ho l’onore di presiedere dal 2007”.

“Anche le piccole aziende sono comunque ben strutturate, orientate all’export e dotate di ottimi livelli di know-how che si concretizzano in una produzione di altissima qualità” – continua Pirovano – “Posso quindi affermare con orgoglio che il nostro comparto porta nel mondo il Made in Italy”. Ogni giorno un enorme quantitativo di fastener viene immesso sul mercato dei più disparati settori (automobile, aerospaziale, veicoli industriali, macchine in generale, costruzioni, elettrodomestici, navale, etc.). “In termini di prodotto e di servizi, l’altissimo livello qualitativo imposto dal mercato globale non spaventa le nostre aziende che riescono a soddisfarlo in virtù di una grande cultura d’impresa e di continui investimenti in ricerca e sviluppo.” – conclude il Presidente UPIVEB – “Questi ultimi in particolare permettono una sempre più concreta evoluzione verso lo ‘scarto zero’ per quanto riguarda il prodotto e addirittura l’Industria 5.0 per quanto riguarda il processo aziendale, quindi senza trascurare il capitale umano.”

Vanguard finishing also for environmental protection Finitura all’avanguardia anche nella tutela dell’ambiente

Mr. President, would you show us the state-of-art of finishing processes?

“Processes related to finishing have been changing in the last years. Surface treatment underwent strong innovation boosts which often allow to get actual results from the point of view of the end-users too.

UCIF has been maintaining for years that treatments related to material surfaces are impacting at the highest level as for the increase of economic value combined with finished products.

Behind progress made by finishing, there is much research and development and companies which, almost unnoticed, are working for improving final output of surfaces. In Italy, the finishing branch boasts many companies with total production of over 620 Million euro and export share of 60%”.

Presidente, può illustrarci lo stato attuale dei processi di finitura?

“I processi legati alla finitura sono cambiati negli ultimi anni. Il trattamento delle superfici ha subito forti spinte innovative che spesso permettono di ottenere risultati tangibili anche dal punto di vista dell’utente finale. UCIF da anni afferma che i trattamenti legati alle superfici dei materiali sono quanto di più impattante nell’accrescimento del valore economico associato al prodotto finito. Dietro i passi compiuti dalla finitura c’è tanta ricerca e sviluppo e aziende che, probabilmente un po’ in sordina, lavorano per migliorare la resa finale di una superfice. In Italia il settore degli impianti di finitura vanta una serie di aziende con un dato complessivo di fatturato che supera i 620 milioni di euro e denotano una quota di export che si attesta sul 60% di quanto realizzato”.

How was it possible to attain the above result?

“Technological level has changed much in comparison to about twenty years ago. Energy saving, process automation, lean production are all current issues where much has been invested. Surface processing, starting from cleaning and washing to painting, through blasting and vibratory finishing, become not only basic treatments as for the quality of the finished product, but also key steps on the impact of the production line in the whole”.

Come è stato possibile raggiungere questo risultato?

“Il livello tecnologico è cambiato parecchio rispetto a una ventina di anni fa. Risparmio energetico, automatizzazione dei processi, lean production, sono tutte tematiche molto attuali in cui si è investito molto. Le lavorazioni delle superfici, partendo dalla pulitura e dal lavaggio fino alla verniciatura, passando dalla granigliatura e dalla vibrofinitura, diventano non solo lavorazioni fondamentali per la qualità del prodotto finito, ma anche dei passaggi cruciali sull’impatto della linea produttiva nel complesso”.

Quali sono gli obiettivi futuri?

The Italian market is the second European market for importance as for welding and cutting.

Mr. Frasson, can you explain how does Anasta set in this context?

Anasta fosters the circulation of culture of metal welding and cutting. Member-companies represent 80% of manufacturers operating in Italy and export over 60% of their production.

Il mercato italiano è il secondo mercato europeo per importanza nella saldatura e taglio. Dottor Frasson ci può spiegare come si pone Anasta in tale contesto?

Si pone come promotrice della diffusione della cultura nel settore della saldatura e del taglio dei metalli. Le aziende associate rappresentano l’80% dei produttori operanti in Italia ed esportano oltre il 60% della loro produzione.

In which way has the above considerable result been attained?

In order to offer more operativeness and importance of answer to actual requirements of both manufacturers and users, the Association subdivides its own activities and services into 5 professional groups: welding, cutting and manual heating ossigas – arc welding and cutting and manual and semiautomatic resistance – consumable products – welding automation – cutting automation.

Anasta through its own delegates participates in essential activities of Italian, European and world standards, thus offering to member-companies information, updating and interpretations so that they be prepared and might rightly position themselves in the market. Membercompanies are extremely flexible and ready to satisfy requests of their customers.

All Anasta activities contribute to developing welding technologies as for efficiency and safety of operators.

In 2012 did Anasta join Anima Confindustria. It cooperates also with other organizations of mechanics and within scientific cultural sector with the goal of networking into a system and be more and more active part in market growth. Products and solutions of member-companies are therefore always vanguard in both technology and workers’s security.

Come è stato ottenuto questo considerevole risultato?

Per offrire una maggiore operatività e incisività di risposta alle reali esigenze delle aziende produttrici e degli utenti, l’associazione suddivide le proprie attività e servizi in 5 gruppi professionali: - saldatura, taglio e riscaldo manuale ossigas-saldatura e taglio ad arco e resistenza manuale e semiautomatica - prodotti consumabili – automazione di saldatura - automazione di taglio.

Anasta, con propri delegati partecipa alle attività fondamentali della normativa nazionale, europea e mondiale, offrendo poi alle aziende associate le informazioni, l’aggiornamento e le interpretazioni affinché siano preparate e si posizionino correttamente sul mercato.

Le aziende associate sono estremamente flessibili e pronte a soddisfare le richieste dei loro clienti. Tutte le attività di Anasta concorrono all’evoluzione della tecnologia della saldatura in ottica di efficienza, e di sicurezza per gli operatori.

Mr. President can you explain us the competence branch and the role of Aisem today?

The sector of competence for Aisem is that of material handling where it represents more than 75% of Italian market, in particular production of membercompanies includes lifting machines, mobile cranes, mobile elevator platforms, industrial trucks, industrial shelvings, continuous handling equipment, automatic warehouses and intralogistic systems, among which shuttles, automated guided vehicles (AGV), equipment and components. The Association coordinates interests of members and represents them at different bodies, institutions and associations, national and European ones. The mainly technical role allows the Association to affect positively decisional processes related to products within standard-institutional ambits, in order to interpret, improve and anticipate requirements of markets. Aisem is founder member of FEM, the European Federation of manufacturers of machines for handing, which operates on matters entered working programmes of European Commission, with which a strict cooperation is in also as for definition and drawing up of community standards.

Il settore di competenza di AISEM è quello del material handling dove rappresenta più del 75% del mercato italiano, in particolare la produzione delle aziende associate comprende apparecchi per il sollevamento, gru mobili, piattaforme mobili elevabili, carrelli industriali, scaffalature industriali, sistemi di movimentazione continua, magazzini automatici e sistemi intralogistici, tra i quali shuttle, carrelli a guida automatica AGV, attrezzature e componentistica. L’associazione coordina gli interessi degli associati e li rappresenta presso vari enti istituzioni e associazioni, nazionali ed europee. Il ruolo prevalentemente tecnico permette all’associazione di influenzare positivamente i processi decisionali legati ai prodotti nelle sedi normative e istituzionali, al fine di interpretare, migliorare e anticipare le richieste dei mercati.

Aisem è membro fondatore della FEM, la federazione europea dei costruttori di macchine per la movimentazione, che opera su temi che sono ormai entrati a far parte dei programmi di lavoro della Commissione Europea, con la quale è in atto una stretta collaborazione anche per quanto riguarda la definizione e la stesura di norme comunitarie.

Which are the aspects where association activity is mainly focused?

Active and passive safety at the workplace, ergonomics, reliability, energy efficiency and cost reduction. Today can European companies count on technological leadership to a certain extent, in order to keep a high level of competitivess, but it is necessary to go on in research so to have means and production methods more and more efficient and products which meet with increasingly high quality standards and are prepared to operate also in contexts of advanced factory automation.

Quali sono gli aspetti sui quali si concentra maggiormente l’attività dell’associazione?

La sicurezza attiva e passiva nell’ambiente di lavoro, l’ergonomia, l’affidabilità, l’efficienza energetica e la riduzione dei costi. Oggi le aziende europee possono contare su una certa leadership tecnologica, per mantenere un elevato livello di competitività, è però necessario continuare nella ricerca, per disporre di mezzi e metodi di produzione sempre più efficienti e di prodotti che rispondano a sempre più elevati standard di qualità e siano predisposti a operare anche in contesti di automazione avanzata della fabbrica.

RFID technology and R&D With over twenty years in the ICT sector, Partitalia is an Italian company which produces and commercializes smart cards, RFID tags and readers throughout Europe.

Since 2013 has the company been developing cloud solutions which, in combination with wearable RFID devices, improve production efficiency within logistics and waste management branches.

At the plant of Partitalia, in Lainate (Italy), offset printers, customization machinery, encoding and embedding machines are used and, with an annual turnover of about 4 and a half Million euro, over 7% is invested in research and development.

Rösler Italiana is the Italian subsidiary of the German multinational Rösler Oberflächentechnik GmbH, a leading company in the surface treatment sector. Today, Rösler is the only company in the world capable of managing two surface processes such as mass finishing and shot blasting in a single production solution. Mass finishing and shot blasting belong to a type of technology considered “mature”, however the concept of “Smart Manufacturing” finds a perfect collocation, with an extension of its meaning: on the one hand we have applications never experienced before - this is the case of parts produced with the Additive Manufacturing, but that have surfaces on which it is necessary to use new treatments or adapted to the different nature of the new materials. In these cases Rösler has studied the adaptation of traditional machines to the more complex and brand-new forms of the parts produced precisely in Additive Manufacturing: let’s think of the need to finish cavities or channels that previously could not be obtained with traditional technologies.

On the other hand we have the effort to integrate Rösler implants interactively with implants with adaptive intelligence. These applications obviously need not only communication with the supervisors, but must also be able to receive process change inputs and also be equipped with equipment and software that modifies the behavior of the machinery accordingly.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING E FINITURA SMART Rösler Italiana è la filiale italiana della multinazionale tedesca Rösler Oberflächentechnik GmbH, azienda leader nel settore del trattamento delle superfici. Ad oggi Rösler è l’unica azienda al mondo in grado di gestire due lavorazioni superficiali quali la finitura di massa e la granigliatura in un’unica soluzione produttiva.

La finitura di massa e la granigliatura appartengono a una tipologia di tecnologia considerata “matura”, tuttavia il concetto di “Smart Manufacturing” trova una perfetta collocazione, con una estensione del suo significato: da una parte abbiamo applicazioni mai sperimentate prima - è questo il caso di parti prodotte con l’Additive Manufacturing, ma che presentano superfici sulle quali è necessario escogitare trattamenti nuovi o adattati alla diversa natura dei nuovi materiali.

In questi casi Rösler ha studiato l’adattamento di macchine tradizionali alle forme più complesse e inedite delle parti prodotte appunto in Additive Manufacturing: si pensi alle necessità di finire cavità o canali che prima non era possibile ottenere con le tecnologie tradizionali.

Dall’altra parte abbiamo lo sforzo di integrare gli impianti Rösler in modo interattivo con impianti dotati di intelligenza adattiva.

Queste applicazioni necessitano, ovviamente non solo di comunicazione verso i supervisori, ma devono essere in grado poi di ricevere input di variazione del processo ed essere dotati anche di apparecchiature e software che modifichino il comportamento dei macchinari in modo conseguente.
