Now, onto what’s inside: Mario Palos gives us the rundown on what’s new and what’s next at his food truck park, Streats. We also visited the new restaurant, Salad House located on Del Mar, where we got to taste their salads, soups and natural juices. On the cover we feature The Tack Room, one of the longest standing and most reputable restaurants in Laredo. Our intern from TAMIU, Jasmine Speer, caught up with the team behind the The Tack Room where she interviewed the chef, Armando Paredes. On September 12th, countless people gathered at Lolita’s Bistro to enjoy the sights, tastes and delicacies created by renowned chef, Maita Fernandez, and owner of Lolitas Bistro. The event hosted two separate events at 7 pm and another at 9 pm. Everyone was eager for the food and finished the night satisfied and with smiles on their faces. Chef Maita Fernandez and her staff all worked swiftly, efficiently and happily. The customer service, the food, and the attention to detail was all done so passionately. Each course was issued out in a timely fashion. A total of 4 courses were issued out and a dessert was the fifth course.

El reggeatonero se presentó en Sames Auto Arena ofreciendo un concierto único con un show espectacular. La velada estuvo llena de diversión ya que éste increíble artistas deleitaron a todo el público con sus éxitos, mientras que sus fans no dejaban de bailar y cantar toda la noche.

STRONGER THAN CANCER

Gold’s Gym of Laredo and Mercy Ministries of Laredo hosted their annual Stronger than Cancer Fitness Fest. The fest consisted of a 5k run, Zumbathon, Spinathon and a Gold’s Fit Competition. The event was held on Oct. 6 at Gold’s Gym North Central. This year, both gyms collected over $11 thousand dollars to benefit Mercy Ministries. Mercy ministries of Laredo’s primary exempt function is to provide primary healthcare service including healthcare education to families in Webb county who are uninsured, indigent and reside in medically underserved areas.

SAMES AUTO ARENA

INAUGURAL CELEBRATION The City of Laredo celebrated the inauguration of the arena’s new and updated name on Sept. 26th. Guests made their way inside and awaited the reveal of the arena’s name, Sames Auto Arena. Since its first opening in 2002, the entertainment facility has hosted various events and shows including Disney on Ice, Cirque du Soleil, WWE, and featured pop and reggaeton artists like Shakira, Maluma, Enrique Iglesias and much more. A PROFESSIONAL CHEF Laredo College’s first culinary arts class graduated in 2012. Ever since then, these restaurant managers, chefs, head cooks and other business professionals have added rich flavors to the menus of multiple local establishments and hospitality businesses. LC offers a Certificate I in Culinary Arts and an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Culinary Arts. Throughout the 60-credit hour/two-year program, students can also earn their one-year certificate in Culinary Arts. Their Culinary Arts Program provides students with the knowledge of basic food preparation, sanitation, hospitality, nutrition, and meal-planning skills needed for working in the culinary field.


Students in advanced courses are guided to learn about international cuisine, buffet theory and production, hospitality supervision, management of food production and services, as well as principles of food and beverage. In an effort to change the student’s future career in the food business, the program requires all students to complete a final culinary practicum course that serves as a capstone of the entire learning experience. The course serves as an internship opportunity that prepares students for the rigors of their impending careers, while providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the culinary business. The future gourmet students are also able to collaborate with college administrators to plan and develop services for special events. If you enjoy making exquisite food or desire to specialize in the culinary field, join the Laredo College Culinary Arts Program this upcoming 2019 Spring Semester.
