Summer Vacay Quick Trip and Getaway Ideas
BY: DUSTIN SHRADER
The time has come to say goodbye to winter and hello to the warm delights of the spring and summer months. As always, bidding farewell to these last chilly days can only mean one thing—summer vacation planning! Trips can always be such a headache to organize, so stressful you may not even enjoy the getaway once your departure date has arrived. Therefore, Fenuxe has taken the liberty of gathering a few ideas to make your summer vacay wish list a one-stop destination! If your work schedule or finances won’t allow for a hop across the pond or flight to the west coast, fear not for we have a couple of local options that will give you selfie worthy memories!
THE GAY AND LESBIAN KINGDOM OF THE CORAL SEA ISLANDS: No joke, this island is a very real place off the coast of Australia. As of now, it is the only nation in the world recognized as an independent homeland for all gay and lesbian people. The Gay Kingdom is a micro nation, which is an area or place that claims to be an independent nation; however, any specific government or major organization does not officially recognize it. The capital located at the northern tip of Cato Island was named Heaven after the famous London gay nightclub. The islands are located east of the Great Barrier Reef and are an overseas territory of Australia. Declaring independence from Australia in 2004 the territory was chosen “because of a twist in international law” that states: “Oppressed people of overseas territories have a right to self-government and self-determination.” The official flag is the Rainbow Flag and naturally, the national anthem is Gloria Gaynor’s I Am What I Am. Now, what better way to spend your summer vacation than by escaping to an island inhabited by beautiful gay men? You know, we all have dreamed about going down… under.

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA Although Savannah is the oldest city in the state of Georgia and bursting with nightlife scenery. If you’re looking for that summer fling, what better place to find the stud than on the sunny shores of Tybee Island or the jumping dance floor of Savannah’s famous gay bar Club One, home to the legendary Lady Chablis, star of the hit cult, classic Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Over the years Club One has evolved from a s simple fun party spot to the beating heart of Savannah’s gay culture. With gogo boys dancing in cages or on the tables and the respectable but delicious bartenders pouring cocktails, you will undoubtedly be ready for what is described as the South’s best drag show of all time. Book your room, Savannah is only a 3 hour ride away.
GRAN CANARIA, SPAIN One of the leading LGBT-friendly destinations in Europe, the island of Gran Canaria should be on every gays’ bucket list. With a live and let live attitude, Gran Canaria delivers a whole ocean of beaches, crystal, clear blue waters mixed with a mild, benign climate, allowing you to romp in the sea day or night. The best known beaches, at Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, located on the south of the island and boast a Natural Dunes Reserve, allowing for plenty of privacy for a little bit of seaside afternoon delight. Furthermore, the “throbbing” nightlife parties continue all year round in the Playa del Inglés tourist area, and in the island’s capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In Gran Canaria there are an infinite number of bars and dance clubs bursting with scantily clad, exotic men who speak very little English. Book your ticket now. FENUXE.COM : 23

AUGUSTA, GA Can’t wait until October for your Pride fix? Then Augusta has you covered. The underrated city might not be as splashy as Savannah but Augusta has one of the best Pride Weekends around, apart from our very own Atlanta Pride, of course. Taking place June 26-27, Augusta Pride is a wild weekend complete with a music festival featuring local and national artists, an inspiring Pride Parade and one of the largest dance parties, Beats on Broad. Constantly pushing the conservative envelope, Augusta’s Gay Pride and growing community has officially put the small, southern city on the gay map. With premiere dance bars and clubs such as, Club Argos and Edge Nightclub, gay-owned eateries like Options Cafe and LGBT lodging only, Augusta is truly a gay haven sinfully designed to keep your bodies and wallets busy all weekend long.
MANUEL ANTONIO, COSTA RICA Manuel Antonio is home to beautiful beaches and incredible wildlife and is extremely gay-friendly. The region is fairly small, with one major road connecting the biggest town - Quepos - at one end with The Manuel Antonio National Park at the other end. Most all restaurants, bars, and activities are easily accessible from this road, which makes visiting both convenient and stress-free. Make sure to visit the gay bars in and outside of Quepos, and if you get a chance, we highly recommend staying at Villa Roca - a gay owned and operated LGBT resort. Say hey to the monkies for us!

INTERVIEW
BY: DUSTIN SHRADER
“SEE JANE SING” AN EVENING WITH JANE LYNCH
Humble and sweet, as she is comedic and quick-witted, Jane Lynch very well might be the hardest working woman in show business today. After wrapping up Glee’s sixth season, the “my-way-or-the-highway cheerleading coach” is onto her next adventure—See Jane Sing: An Evening With Jane Lynch, a musical comedy. It was so successful that she decided to take the act on the road, traveling all around the U.S. with good buddies Kate Flannery (Meredith of The Office) and Tim Davis (Glee’s Vocal Coordinator). Before her highly-anticipated show at Atlanta’s Symphony Hall on Saturday, March 28, Jane opened up to Fenuxe about her crowd-pleasing performance, shooting a new pilot for CBS and the possibility of doing a full Broadway run in the future. JANE LYNCH: Yeah, it sure was. I hadn’t done theatre in a while since I started out. Then when I moved into television and film, I had no desire to go back to the stage at all. And the offer for Annie came up and I thought, “Who turns down a Broadway musical?” So, I did that and got the bug all over again. I wanted to keep performing. 54 Below gave me those four nights and I am having such a great time. We decided to take it out on the road, doing a smattering of dates all over the country. Now that I am finished with Glee, I’ll be picking up steam and adding more dates in terms of the tour.
JANE LYNCH: Well, I’m biased, but it is fantastic. It is about an hour long. It goes by really fast. It is funny. We have crammed a bunch of songs and a bunch of patter. I have a five-piece band, the Tony Guerrero Quintet, my friend Kate Flannery from The Office joins me for the bulk of it and my friend Tim Davis who opens for me, he joins us for some three-part harmonies. It is a bunch of different styles, I have some funny jazz numbers, some Broadway tunes we reimagined and rearranged, even a love song medley I find extremely funny. We smile, have a lot of laughs and so does the audience.
JANE LYNCH: Terrific! You know, Kate and I have been weaving in and out of each other’s lives for decades. We’ve been performing and singing, and when I decided to do this cabaret show I gave her a call and said, “I can’t think of anyone, I’d rather have on stage performing with me.” She came out and we worked it up. We have a blast doing it! We started doing it at 54 Below, the cabaret space in New York. They gave me four nights before I even had a show. I kinda had a deadline, but that is how we came up with it. Tim was the vocal arranger on Glee and he is touring with me, he is a wonderful crooner. He is so talented and such a handsome guy, you’re going to love him! He and Tony of the quintet open for me, Kate and I flip in a little later and we have a blast!
FENUXE: How has it been working with Kate and Tim?
FENUXE: Was performing in Annie the inspiration to do your own show?
FENUXE: I am excited to see your show! It has received high praise, what can we expect?
28: April 10, 2015
FENUXE: Taking part in Annie and doing See Jane Sing, have you considered a longer running Broadway show? JANE LYNCH: That is a great question! You know, I think the world is our oyster. We could keep doing the touring, which is great. But I am also imagining in my head how I can get into something where we stay in one space, make it a little fuller, a little bigger, add a bit more music and an over-arching theme to make the show longer. It is a possibility, because I have a ton of ideas of what I could add to it. FENUXE: Is every show the same or is improvisation involved, as well? JANE LYNCH: We do improv, actually! My drummer Matt Johnson said last night it is a tight and loose show. My kind of way of working is I plan every single moment I leave no stone
unturned. It is a complete entity by the time I am through and put it out on stage. Then and only then do I feel free to goof around. It is very loose but there are definite parameters. With the parameters set, I feel as if it has become my playpen and then I can move around. Last night we had a show here in Alexandria, it was very loose. People asked if it was all improvised and it wasn’t. It is very structured but within that structure, we have a blast. FENUXE: I was thrilled to hear you are coming back to TV with CBS’s Angel From Hell. JANE LYNCH: Well with the pilot we shoot the show, then the network decides if they will take it to series or not. We just had our first table read yesterday. We start shooting next
“I have always loved singing. I grew up in a musical family. They would do the church musicals, where ironically everyone got loaded, but that was my first exposure to singing“ week and hopefully, it is something CBS will want to take the bait. I’m really excited. FENUXE: Any other big names joining Angel From Hell? JANE LYNCH: Yeah, Kevin Pollock and Maggie Lawson, who was on Psych will be joining. And Kyle Bornheimer, who you will recognize. The four of us are kind of the regulars in it. FENUXE: If given the green light, will we see it this fall? JANE LYNCH: I would think so, I am hoping so. That is definitely the intention, so we will see what happens.
Jane lynch photo by: jake bailey
FENUXE: Are you still going to have time for a third season of Hollywood Game Night? JANE LYNCH: Yep! In fact, it sounds like I am the busiest person in FENUXE.COM : 29
but we did sit around the kitchen table and sing songs. My parents loved harmonizing, but that is about as far as it went. They would also do the church musicals, where ironically everyone got loaded, but that was really my first exposure to singing. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love it. FENUXE: Have you been to Atlanta before? JANE LYNCH: I have! I shot The Three Stooges there and another film called A.C.O.D.: Adult Children of Divorce. I love it! I love the food. It looks like we are going to have some time too! I have like a day and a half to hang out there. Look for me on the street! We will take a picture! I would love to have people come out to Symphony Hall. I can’t wait to play there. It is going to be a lot of fun. the world, but last weekend and the weekend before we shot ten Hollywood Game Nights! We are ready to throw those on the air early this summer. FENUXE: Wow, that is intense.
for allowing me to go out with a bang. FENUXE: Out of six seasons, who has to be your favorite co-star or guest star? I’m sure Carol Burnett was a pleasure to work with.
JANE LYNCH: I am exhausted, my friend. But I had a great sleep last night, so I could be ready to talk to you.
JANE LYNCH: Oh, Carol Burnett and Olivia Newton John were so amazing to work with. Matt Morrison is my favorite co-star in the world. I just love him. He is a real joy to hang out with.
FENUXE: Aw, thank you! I am very excited to be speaking with you! So, what has been your favorite role played to date?
FENUXE: Well, because you are such a prominent figure I have to ask, I was wondering your thoughts on the whole D&G scandal?
JANE LYNCH: Oh gosh, it is always the one I’m doing. I will say though, Sue Sylvester has been a complete joy to play. I did it for over six years. The longest role I have ever played. I loved it from start to finish. The great thing about Sue and the double-edged sword of the character, she is great in small doses. So, I was sprinkled in and out. It was always a good time. These last thirteen episodes, I was in so much of them. It was fun and I had such crazy things to do. I am eternally grateful to all the powers that be over
JANE LYNCH: You know what, I have been so busy, so I am unplugged from everything that is going on. But people say stupid things all the time. We all do.
30: April 10, 2015
FENUXE: Yes, that is true. So, have you always been a singer or did that come about on Glee? JANE LYNCH: I have always loved singing. I grew up in a musical family. We didn’t sit around and play instruments like the Partridge Family
True to her word, See Jane Sing was indeed a lot of fun! The Glee alum truly delivered a fast-paced production, the perfect blend of music and comedy. Jane captivated the audience with a fire-cracker wit and raw vocals so pure, I was on the edge of my seat craving more. Jane’s eclectic set list, jam-packed with classic favorites like “Far From the House I Love” from Fiddler on the Roof, Frank Sinatra’s Something Stupid and the delightful musical stylings of “I’d Climb the Highest Mountain” and “If Wishes Were Rainbows,” were divinely unconventional, yet chosen with a sheer understanding of each song. Every joke, every high note and every melody had a timing and a place, further proving the unadulterated genius that is Jane Lynch. Completely enthralled, I was not ready to for the night to end, as Jane, Kate, and Tim belted out the show’s final number, “The Party’s Over.” Without a shadow of a doubt, Ms. Lynch has found her niche, See Jane Sing is worthy and more of a full, Broadway run pulling out all the stops.
Bravo, Jane! Bravo!

HEY GIRL HEY
HOLLER POODLES! “Oh the places we will go.” Gay travel destinations abound and as the summer season creeps upon us, I’m sure you’re all working your bodies out hard to get ready to display your various assets. Yummmmmmm! In my youth (19Aught2) I remember the annual pilgrimage to Pensacola where all the gays and grays would convene on the beach. I went there several times over the years with friends who were more concerned with their desire to get drunk and naked (now what’s wrong with that?) than my propensity to burn. While not a bad goal, my alabaster skin did not like the sun penetrating its way through my 50 sunblock, tshirt and a tent. I didn’t understand at the time that even with all those protections, the suns rays bounce off every surface and will burn you to a fried chicken crisp if you aren’t diligent about protecting yourself. I did enjoy the gasps of the people passing by as I lay in my string bikini with a large crustacean between my legs. Red Lobster anyone? Another time I was performing at a club in Pensacola and will never forget a local girl came in from her day job to get ready for the show. Everyone around was busily doing their makeup and getting ready for the show to start when this unnamed entertainer announced she had to undo her tuck (drag term used to describe the piece of duct tape placed over the penis and pulled back between the legs to hold said penis and balls in place) because she had not removed it all day at work. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Needless to say, this story was gonna end in tragedy. The room started to fill up with the smell of ass. And as the smell hit their nostrils, one by one, each entertainer made a hasty retreat to the bar area. I couldn’t figure out why everyone was all of a sudden leaving when DAMMMMNNNNN it hit me like a ton of bricks. When I regained consciousness, I headed for the outside bar area and all the customers were asking what happened. As Wanda Sykes would say… “She sold her ass to the devil!” I haven’t been back to Pensacola since but I’m sure after tearing that bar down and subsequently burning it, Satan crawled back into his hole. But I’m not bitter!! Y’all have safe travels!!!

PEOPLE BE DUMB
One Million Moms, the intolerant group has singled out Angie’s List blasted them for having the very nerve to disagree with the discrimination of LGBT people, after Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed the “Religious Freedom” law. Here is exactly what One Million Mom’s said: “Angie’s List, the online service that provides consumer reviews of service professionals, publicly endorsed antiChristian bigotry by opposing an Indiana law designed to protect religious liberties and freedoms. Last week, Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) after the state legislature overwhelmingly supported it. Twenty states now have passed the law, with Arkansas and Georgia currently considering it. The Indiana law is identical in all fundamental respects to the 1993 federal RFRA signed into law by President Bill Clinton after it passed the U.S. House unanimously and the Senate 97-3. Unfortunately, Angie’s List has joined with thousands of homosexual activists (including lesbian Ellen DeGeneres) in opposing religious freedom for all people in Indiana. “Angie’s List is a bully, plain and simple. They have chosen to bully the city of Indianapolis, the state of Indiana and Christians everywhere by financial intimidation and threats. TAKE ACTION: If you have an account with Angie’s List, we urge you to cancel it right away in defense of religious liberty in America. Be sure to let them know why you’re leaving. Even
if you don’t have an account, send an email to Angie’s List CEO Bill Oesterle. Let him know that his company’s support for religious discrimination is an affront to Christians.” Do educated people really listen to this nonsense? So, if you are against the “Reigious Freedom” law then you are also against Christians. At least that is what I am taking from this. Heaven forbid (pun intended) they find out that there are LGBT Christians in the world. Those busy bodies might have an even bigger conniption.

In a suicide attempt, gay UK politician has said he deliberately contracted HIV. Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett, a Dem candidate, is the first parliamentary candidate to come out as HIV+. He is also the first political figure to do so in over 10 years in Europe or even stateside for that matter. Hyyrylainen-Trett is aiming to win the Vauxhall seat, south London’s gay area well-known for drug popularity and a high-count of overdoses. ‘I thought, “I don’t really want to be here.” All the suicidal thoughts I had as a teenager returned,’ he said, in an interview with Buzzfeed. ‘I’ve done the whole A-Z of drugs and everything in between. Doing that and knowingly searching for ways to get rid of yourself was the worst possible combination.’ Then he eventually met a guy who asked him to make a gay wrestling pornography. ‘He said it’d be good fun. I said yes,’ Hyyrylainen-Trett said. ‘I was hoping to please him enough so he’d want to be my boyfriend. I was going from one person to another trying to find someone to love me. Even though I knew people were surviving from HIV, I thought “Perhaps if I can make myself so ill, get the worst strain possible, that would be one way of getting rid of myself”,’ he said. ‘It was my own fault, I was looking for it. I didn’t really want HIV,’ he added, ‘I wanted annihilation of me.’ Hyyrylainen-Trett suggests he became HIV positive ‘as a consequence of all these things – bullying, mental ill health, and low self-esteem. All those things could have been prevented. Yet all these things are still happening and no one is talking about it. I feel I owe it to the community to talk about it.’ For his reasoning behind his campaign, he says he wants to be that platform to bring awareness to this side of the gay community. ‘There are enough people on the gay scene who are aware of the problems but there hasn’t been an open discussion at any level – political, governmental or at a community level.’ Glad to see he has turned his life around. 40: April 10, 2015
GAY HATER TO GAY MINISTER?
SCOTT EASTWOOD: A GAY MAN’S MAN Some have accused Scott Eastwood of gay baiting. That is simply not the case. The spitting image of his father, Clint Eastwood, Scott is aware of the attention he has received from gay fans and absolutely loves it. An avid supporter of LGBT rights, Scott opened up to PrideSource to explain his views on his gay fans and marriage equality. When asked if he was aware gay men “enjoy” him so much, Scott explains, “Now I am - you’re bringing it to my attention! I love it. I don’t discriminate against any fans. Fans are fans, and gay
men are great. I support gay marriage and the whole bit. I think everybody should be able to be with who they want to be with. My dad is the same way. He’s a total Libertarian - everyone leave everyone alone. Everyone live their own private life. And why does everyone gotta be all up in arms about it?” In his newest movie The Longest Ride, Scott had to film a sex scene or two and he got candid about just how much of him we will get to see. “For me, I didn’t really care. The butt thing - to me, this was a really classy story and a really classy movie, so I didn’t care about showing a little butt in there. That’s part of it. Sex scenes - you see a little bit of action, right? And that’s what makes

Republican Lt. Governor of Massachusetts, Karyn Polito seems to be turning over a new leaf. Polito recently announced she will be officiating the wedding of state Senate President Stan Rosenberg (65) to his partner, Byron Hefner (27). It is about time she woke up and realized it is 2015. What is surprising about this situation is Polito voted several times for the passing of an amendment to ban same-sex marriage in Massachusetts in previous years. Her views have evolved in favor of same-sex marriage after she ran alongside Governor Charlie Baker in 2014. Baker has always been an avid supporter of marriage equality. This relationship just goes to show what can be accomplished when one takes the time and makes the effort to understand. Despite this latest development, Senate President Rosenberg is keeping the hush-hush over his impending nuptials. “We plan on keeping the details of the wedding private, but we are pleased that Karyn Polito has agreed to officiate this happy occasion,” he released in a statement. Although Polito’s decision has polarized both sides of party lines, it is thrilling to know that the fight for acceptance is worth it. Congratulations to the happy couple!
a good sex scene. Not too much. You don’t wanna give it all away. You gotta leave something to the imagination.” Yes, well my imagination is running rampant. Thank you, Scott.

millenials feel were discriminated against the most: transgender people. According to the study’s results, 47% admit that “transgender people face a lot of stigma in their community.” Here are a few other interesting facts uncovered by the survey:
HOMOSEXUALITY MORE POPULAR THAN CASUAL SEX? In a new study led by the Public Religion Research Institute designed to reconnoiter how race and religion mold millennial attitudes on sexuality and reproductive health, has revealed quite a few interesting facts. Almost half (46%) of college-educated millennials “say that sex between two adults who have no intention of establishing a relationship is morally acceptable, whereas 51% say that sex between two adults of the same gender is morally acceptable.” The study also shined light on what particular group
- More than eight in ten millennials say that health insurance should include coverage for HIV and STD testing (87%) and prescription contraception (82%) - Fewer than three in ten millennials say that gay or lesbian people (29%) or a woman who has had an abortion (24%) face a lot of stigma in their community - A majority (53%) of millennials say the country has gotten pretty seriously off on the wrong track, compared to 45% who say it is going in the right direction. - Three-quarters (75%) of millennials favor teaching comprehensive sex education in public schools, while 21% are opposed. Jason Aldean isn’t just an ordinary country singer. The “Burnin’ It Down” singer’s list of dream collaborations is a long one and not only limited to his fellow country music stars. “I love Beyoncé,” Aldean told E! News at the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards when asked who he’d like to work with. “Justin Timberlake and Rihanna, too.” His new wife, Brittany Kerr, chimed in, adding, “Adele would be cool.” As Aldean looked down the red carpet at the throng of the industry’s biggest names he said, “I think you can pick anyone here. I think you respect people for what they do, what they bring to the table. I think that’s what makes shows like this one really cool. We are all different,” he said. They may be different but I do know a Queen Bey/ Jason Aldean collaboration would be diabolical. How can we make this happen people!?
My childhood crush Ryan Phillippe is apparently ageless. Although the hunky actor just turned 40 last September, he has nothing to worry about in the age department. According to him, he is mistaken for his daughter’s brother all the time! “It’s crazy. And still, I get carded constantly,” he said. “My daughter hates it, because sometimes people have thought I’m her brother, and she’s freaked out by that.” The Secrets and Lies star shares daughter Ava, 15, and son Deacon with my other childhood crush, Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon. Despite the former lovers getting divorced in 2008, they both remain friends and fully devoted to parenting their children together. Ryan admits getting married so young and the Hollywood scene was the final domino to fall in their highly-publicized marriage. “I think more of the problem was age, you know, when we got together so young. I think it can create issues—two people in this industry—because there’s so much noise that goes around with it.”

Turkey Be Cray
Julianne Moore’s Oscar win for her performance in Still Alice might not be enough to convince everyone that the star has undeniable talent. The 54-year-old actress was allegedly the face of Turkey’s tourism campaign, but according to a local report in the Hürriyet Daily, Turkish officials reportedly fired Moore due to what they claimed was “poor acting.” According to the report, Moore shot a promotional film in L.A. titled “Home Of” in which she “was seen revisiting her childhood journeys to Turkey while traveling on an airplane.” The Tourism Ministry apparently disliked the performance in the ad and asked for a reshoot. Allegedly, Moore declined the reshoot offer, thus the ad campaign was scrapped altogether. Um, who in their right mind asks Julianne Moore to do a reshoot because of “poor acting?” The owner of Iconisus & I Mean It, the advertising agency who founded the campaign, claims it lost $1.5 million due to the cancellation of the $4 million project.
Daddy Day Care
David Beckham is a protective daddy and apparently, a mindful husband. David stopped by James Corden’s Late Late Show to discuss his daddy duties and embarrass his eldest, 16-yearold Brooklyn. Corden acknowledged that Brooklyn is a “goodlooking boy” and “must be getting quite into the dating circle.” “He’s gonna hate me for this” David said as the camera panned to Brooklyn in the audience. Brooklyn, who was rumored to be dating Chloe Moretz last year, is quite a heartthrob. “On his first date, when he was 14, Victoria was in London. It was Valentine’s Day and he said, ‘I’d love to take this girl to dinner.’ I said, ‘OK, great.’ I spoke to Victoria and she was like, ‘Really?’ I said, ‘Yeah, he’s going to do it.’ She said, ‘OK. Make sure you take him and make sure you sit in the restaurant.’ I was like, ‘Really? You’re gonna make me do that? She said, ‘Yep. That’s the only way I’m going to let him go.’ So we took him to a sushi restaurant and he sat at the sushi bar and I sat about five tables back.” LOL!
