e r o d A e t v i h G g i n o T The latest dance track from Adore Delano is an emotionally charged cover of Shannons freestyle tale of romantic frustration. “Give Me Tonight has always been one of my favorite songs,” says Delano. “I remember listening to it as a teenager, imagining I lived in the movie Party Monster.”

Adore Delano was drawn to cover Give Me Tonight because, as she explains, “I love the irony of sad desperation set to dance music. It’s almost like celebrating sadness and I can get into that.”

She says she went in to the recording studio intending to stay true to Shannon’s original from 1984, while giving it a 2015 Adore facelift. Like Shannon’s song, Adore’s Give Me Tonight features infectious beats, syncopated rhythms and a dramatically powerful vocal performance that is both heart wrenching and heart pounding. She’ll perform it and other tracks from her top selling Till Death Do Us Party album at Centerstage in Atlanta on September 29th.

Adore says she has been on both sides of the emotional seesaw. “I recently had to tell someone I once cared deeply for, ‘I can’t love you today’. It was excruciating.”

Give Me Tonight was first released in 1984, as a follow-up to Shannon’s “Let The Music Play”. It was an immediate hit in clubs, landing at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart for two weeks and later named as one of the top thirty dance songs of the year by BIllboard. It was also a top ten single on the American R&B chart.

Of course, being told to leave can be even more agonizing but the one thing Adore says she could never do is beg a guy to let her stay, as the jilted lover does in Give Me Tonight. “No guy is worth that.” She also doesn’t allow for second chances in a relationship. “I hold grudges,” she says.

Adore Delano pays tribute to the song’s original release date in the music video that depicts her bathed in neon, oversized off-the-shoulder blouses, an acid washed denim jean jacket and mini skirt, and of course, 80’s-style big hair.

“I love everything about the 80s,” says Delano. “Cigarettes, beer, sex, pop culture, life. Everything was oversized, undersized, bright, pastel. I feel like the 80s were such an experimental time and not just music wise. All the love story movies were better back then.” Adore Delano is the break out star from season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Immediately following the show’s finale, she released “DTF”, the first single off her Till Death Do Us Party album. The album debuted at #3 on the Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and at #59 on the Billboard 200. Since then, she has released seven singles and their finely produced music videos. 30 YEARS LATER: THE SAME BOX, A NEW PERSPECTIVE This article was written by Greg Louganis for WhoSay.com Hi, my name is Greg Louganis and I’m a four-time gold medal Olympic diver. I’m also HIV-positive and about to celebrate my second wedding anniversary with the love of my life, my husband Johnny. I never thought I’d see this day when I could say any of this, much less say it publicly in front of all of you -- the entire world. When I first came out to my mom years ago, she cried. She said she was sad for me because she knew that I would always be treated as a second-class citizen. She thought I would never be able to get married, and she was afraid I would die alone. Oh my, how things have changed. Not only am I married, but also I am out to the world. For an openly gay athlete? I didn’t think that would ever happen. Even though I was out to my friends, family, and some people in the USA diving world, I just didn’t discuss my personal life in the media. That was my policy - and understandably so. 28: September 25, 2015

Take the Wheaties box, for example. Being on the cover of the Wheaties box is so iconic for Olympians. It’s almost a given for big gold medalists, and even some obscure Olympians, too. Back in 1984 after my first gold medal win at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, a reporter asked Wheaties why I wasn’t featured on the cover of the box. The rep told him that they were never in talks with me because I allegedly didn’t share the same family values. They didn’t come out and say it, but the message was loud and clear. They knew I was rumored to be gay and homosexuality wasn’t going to fly on a wholesome Wheaties box. Ouch. People are kind of surprised when I say that I have no hard feelings about being denied a cover. After all, it wasn’t anything personal - it was a sign of the times of Corporate America. It’s also funny because many people assumed all of these years that I was on the Wheaties box. It wasn’t until I mentioned it in my book, that people started showing up at signings holding Wheaties boxes with my picture glued on them. They wanted redemption. About a month ago, I got a note from a fan of

mine, Julie Sondgerath in Chicago, Ill., who started a petition on Change.org to finally secure my Wheaties cover more than 30 years after my first gold medal win. People in the diving community, people in the dog agility community (my profession now)... they are all sharing it. With nearly 40,000 signatures, this petition has taken on, a life of its own. It’s incredible. People tell me that they want to see this major brand right its wrong. My fans are up in arms that I was denied something because I was gay or perceived gay. Interestingly enough, Wheaties’ parent company, General Mills, has been making an honest effort in supporting the LGBT community for several years now. Not only does it have an internal diversity program for employees called Betty’s Family LGBT, the company also publicly supports the Equality Act, which seeks to expand existing civil rights protections to include safeguards against sexual orientation and gender identity. Plus, remember its beautiful Cheerios commercial featuring same-sex families? Many people don’t realize, or simply forget, how far we’ve come. I’m hoping that if and when my Wheaties cover happens, I can raise awareness about all of the positive work General Mills has been doing for the gay community. I want people to think, “Now, that’s a company I can get behind.” Do I need the Wheaties box to feel fulfilled? Absolutely not! To simply be here, living my life as my true self is rewarding enough. However, I feel like I owe this box to my friends, family, and fans that have been cheering me on for decades. Sure, the Wheaties cover would have been cool in 1984... but after all we’ve been through, it would be even more iconic now.

Hey Girl Hey! Holler Poodles! Let’s face it ladies! Embarrassing moments are going to happen. And only true ladies such as myself can tell you the proper way to handle these situations. “Panty show” writes “Mary Edith, what do you do when you get toilet paper and/or your dress caught in your panties?” Dear Reader: I can totally relate. Last month when I was in Walmart, I had started my exclamation point period and was fiddling around trying to get things situated. Unbeknownst to me, the toilet paper dispenser and roll attached themselves to my butt. As I left the bathroom stall, I seemed to have left a trail through the store from my shopping cart to the bloody crime scene. When a security guard approached me to let me know, I held my head high, detached the roll and pulled down my dress. I told the man “Thank you, we’ve been monitoring your response time on camera and I’m happy to report while not exemplary, you addressed the situation immediately. Please follow the trail for your award!” He looked disgusted puzzled and followed the trail. Moral of the story--hold your head high and they can never get anything over on you. My next question comes from “P in Pool”. Mary Edith, How do you recover from accidentally peeing in a pool? Well I can do you one better. My dear friend Selma B. Hole and I were swimming in a public pool once when I thought I needed to politely pass some gas. Unfortunately, it was diarrhea of the liquid kind and I had to think fast. There were a group of kids nearby and I told Selma to grab one and bring her over. Selma hurdled her over into the emerging abyss forming around me and as soon as she did, I yelled in my loudest voice “OH MY GOD, YOU SHIT YOURSELF!” Everyone immediately saw the brown cloud encircling us and cleared the pool out. Whew, crisis averted! No one would ever expect a dignified lady such as myself to have done something so crude. Children however, do that shit all the time. Selma and I hightailed it to the restroom and I left my brownish white thong in the stall. I threw on a sarong and headed to McDonald’s. All in a day’s work!

President Obama, in a historic first for the Pentagon, has chosen to nominate Eric Fanning to lead the Army, a move that would make him the first openly gay civilian secretary of one of the military services. “Eric brings many years of proven experience and exceptional leadership to this new role,” Obama said. “I am grateful for his commitment to our men and women in uniform, and I am confident he will help lead America’s soldiers with distinction. I look forward to working with Eric to keep our Army the very best in the world.” Fanning has been acting undersecretary of the Army since June. He has served as special assistant to Defense Secretary Ash Carter and held senior positions in the Air Force, including undersecretary from 2013 to 2015. Fanning’s nomination

LIFELINE KICKS OFF CAMPAIGN FOR A NO-KILL ATLANTA BY 2016 LifeLine Animal Project, the non-profit that manages DeKalb and Fulton County Animal Services shelters, asks Atlantans to join its historic effort to make Atlanta a no-kill community for DeKalb and Fulton shelter pets by the end of 2016. Under LifeLine’s leadership, both shelters have almost reached the no-kill threshold, defined as saving 90% or more of the animals entering the shelters. The “I’m In” campaign, which features local spokespeople declaring their support for a no-kill Atlanta, kicked off July 1. According to LifeLine CEO Rebecca Guinn, the organization seeks city-wide support for their campaign. “To create a no-kill community in Atlanta, we need the

community,” she says. “Spaying or neutering your pet, adopting rather than purchasing pets, licensing your pet, volunteering at one of our shelters or donating funds -- every action can help ensure the success of a no-kill Atlanta by the end of 2016.” In 2014, LifeLine cared for 15,559 homeless animals and has dramatically increased adoption rates by 98 percent since commencing management of the county shelters. The organization also operates two low-cost spay/neuter clinics, which have performed over 85,000 surgeries, and two no-kill shelters. LifeLine also implemented a Catlanta trapneuter-return program, the first and largest in metro Atlanta for stray and feral cats, and has.performed TNR surgeries on 27,000 community cats who would have traditionally been euthanized at county shelters. In March, he was arrested after he visited the Family Worship Center church in Kings Mountain and began yelling antigay hate speech and tried to make a citizen’s arrest after a few members said they were gay. ALABAMA ATTEMPTS TO DO AWAY WITH MARRIAGE LICENSES ALTOGETHER. A bill to do away with stateissued marriage licenses has failed. Alabama will remain in the marriage license business for now. Alabama lawmakers couldn’t get enough votes last week to pass a bill to do away with state-issued marriage licenses in the aftermath of legalized gay marriage. The bill would have done away with state-issued marriage licenses and replace them with a marriage contract signed by the couple.There was a

majority of House members supporting the idea. However, the bill needed a two-thirds vote since it went beyond the scope of the special session on the budget. A few counties in Alabama have already shut down issuing of marriage licenses altogether rather than issue a same-sex marriage license, the bill if passed would have allowed for probate judges who oppose same-sex marriage from having to sign licenses for same-sex couples. The bill could be reintroduced next year when lawmakers return for the regular session in February.
