TRIUMEQ is a once-a-day pill used to treat HIV-1. In some people, TRIUMEQ should not be used by itself. Take TRIUMEQ exactly as your healthcare provider tells you. APPROVED USES TRIUMEQ is a prescription HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus-type 1) medicine used alone or with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection in adults. HIV-1 is the virus that causes AIDS. TRIUMEQ is not for use by itself in people who have or have had resistance to abacavir, dolutegravir, or lamivudine. TRIUMEQ should not be used in children under the age of 18. TRIUMEQ does not cure HIV-1 or AIDS. You must keep taking HIV-1 medicines to control HIV-1 infection and decrease HIV-related illnesses.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION What is the most important information I should know about TRIUMEQ? TRIUMEQ can cause serious side effects, including: • Serious allergic reactions (hypersensitivity reaction) that can cause death have happened with TRIUMEQ and other abacavir-containing products. Your risk of this allergic reaction to abacavir is much higher if you have a gene variation called HLA-B*5701. Your healthcare provider can determine with a blood test if you have this gene variation. If you get symptoms from 2 or more of the following groups while taking TRIUMEQ, call your healthcare provider right away: 1. fever; 2. rash; 3. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain; 4. generally ill feeling, extreme tiredness, or achiness; 5. shortness of breath, cough, or sore throat. Your pharmacist will give you a Warning Card with a list of these symptoms. Carry this Warning Card with you at all times. If you stop taking TRIUMEQ because of an allergic reaction, never take TRIUMEQ or any other abacavir- or dolutegravir-containing medicines again. If you take TRIUMEQ or any other abacavir-containing medicine again after you have had an allergic reaction, within hours you may get lifethreatening symptoms that may include very low blood pressure or death. If you stop TRIUMEQ for any other reason, even for a few days, and you are not allergic to TRIUMEQ, talk with your healthcare provider before taking it again. Taking TRIUMEQ again can cause a serious allergic or life-threatening reaction, even if you never had an allergic reaction to it before. If your healthcare provider tells you that you can take TRIUMEQ again, start taking it when you are around medical help or people who can call a healthcare provider if you need one. • A buildup of acid in your blood (lactic acidosis). Lactic acidosis can happen in some people who take TRIUMEQ. This serious medical emergency can cause death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you feel very weak or tired; have unusual muscle pain; have trouble breathing; have stomach pain with nausea and vomiting; feel cold, especially in your arms and legs; feel dizzy/light-headed; or have a fast/irregular heartbeat. • Serious liver problems can happen in people who take TRIUMEQ. In some cases, these serious liver problems can lead to death. You may be more likely to get lactic acidosis or serious liver problems if you are female, very overweight (obese), or have been taking nucleoside analogue medicines for a long time. Call your healthcare provider right away if you get any of the following signs or symptoms: • yellow skin, or the white part of the eyes turns yellow (jaundice); dark urine; light-colored stools; loss of appetite for several days or longer; nausea; pain, aching, or tenderness on the right side of your stomach area • Worsening of hepatitis B virus in people who have HIV-1 infection. If you have HIV-1 and hepatitis B virus (HBV), your HBV may get worse (flare-up) if you stop taking TRIUMEQ. A “flare-up” is when your HBV suddenly returns in a worse way than before. Worsening liver disease can be serious and may lead to death. Do not stop taking TRIUMEQ without first talking to your healthcare provider, so he or she can monitor your health. • Resistant hepatitis B virus. If you have HIV-1 and hepatitis B, the hepatitis B virus can change (mutate) during your treatment with TRIUMEQ and become harder to treat (resistant). ©2016 ViiV Healthcare group of companies. • Use with interferon and ribavirin-based regimens. If you’re taking TRIUMEQ and interferon, with or without ribavirin, tell your healthcare provider about any new symptoms. Worsening of liver disease that has caused death has happened in people infected with both HIV-1 and hepatitis C who were taking antiretroviral medicines and interferon. Who should not take TRIUMEQ? • Do not take TRIUMEQ if you: • have the HLA-B*5701 gene variation • are allergic to abacavir, dolutegravir, or any of the ingredients in TRIUMEQ • take dofetilide (Tikosyn®) • have liver or kidney problems What are other possible side effects of TRIUMEQ? • People with a history of hepatitis B or C virus may have an increased risk of developing new or worsening changes in certain liver tests during treatment with TRIUMEQ. Your healthcare provider may do tests to check your liver function before and during treatment with TRIUMEQ. • When you start taking HIV-1 medicines, your immune system may get stronger and begin to fight infections that have been hidden in your body for a long time. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you start having new symptoms after you start taking TRIUMEQ. • Changes in body fat can happen in people who take HIV-1 medicines. • Some HIV-1 medicines, including TRIUMEQ, may increase your risk of heart attack. The most common side effects of TRIUMEQ include: trouble sleeping, headache, tiredness These are not all the possible side effects of TRIUMEQ. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking TRIUMEQ? • Before you take TRIUMEQ, tell your healthcare provider if you: • have been tested and know whether or not you have a gene variation called HLA-B*5701 • have or have had liver problems, including hepatitis B or C infection; have kidney problems; have heart problems, smoke, or have diseases that increase your risk of heart disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes; drink alcohol or take medicines that contain alcohol • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if TRIUMEQ will harm your unborn baby • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Do not breastfeed if you take TRIUMEQ • You should not take TRIUMEQ if you also take: • abacavir (EPZICOM®, TRIZIVIR®, or ZIAGEN®) • lamivudine (COMBIVIR®, DutrebisTM, EPIVIR®, EPIVIR-HBV®, EPZICOM, or TRIZIVIR) • emtricitabine (Emtriva®, Atripla®, Complera®, Stribild®, or Truvada®) Important Safety Information continued on next page

Spiritual Fitness:

BY JOSHUAH NEAL

POSITIVITY MIND MATTERS MOST situations and environment, but that’s not the case at all. The reason our egos feel this way is because we’re not totally aware of of our true purpose. The only thing we can control and is our attitude and perspective and focus on our craft. Not being in control of your these can also lead to a lot of self doubt and self-doubt can lead to many other bad situations. “Self-doubt” has been a struggle for me until coming to Yoga. There are a couple of things in my life that I know I cannot change and it causes a lot of self doubt and fear which is why I am so thankful for Yoga at this point in my life. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring nor do I know what next week or next month will bring but I can truly tell you that Yoga is definitely helping me to learn to be in control of my mind.

“MIND MATTERS MOST” is a

actions affect your relationships. It so amazing that when you work on controlling your breath and your mind, you start to recognize the selfdestructive behaviors, the egos, the negative actions of not only yourself but others! Which is awesome.

phrase that Im meditating on as I continue my journey through yoga. If you don’t control your mind, then your mind will control you. I spoke with another Yoga teacher this morning who taught me that the mind binds the breath and the breath binds the mind. The two are interchangeable. Whatever we think, feel, crave, enjoy and do, it is our mind that processes the impulse or action and assigns a reaction and impression to it. So, if you can control your mind, you can control your destiny. If you can control your breath you can control your mind. This is such a valuable connection from breath to destiny, right?

We can not control the actions of others but we can control the way we respond. “ to conquer oneself is a greater task than conquering others” -Buddha

Yoga can allow us to become more self-aware and with all the current events that are going on in the world our mind can get the best of us. Breathing and meditation can allow us to be more non reactive to these situations. If we can just sit still, remove the crazy monkey chatter and really focus on our breath, we can be far greater in control of our actions! Which is why.....the mind matters most. When you understand selfawareness, you can began to realize how impulsive and reactive you are and most importantly, how these

Personally, I need to focus positive thoughts towards myself even through negative situations. If my breath is fast and fast and choppy then my thoughts are the same. However if my breath is smooth and content then so are my thoughts and the quality of my life. The more that I we have positive thoughts the better quality of life I will have.

25: October 7, 2016

“The mind is such a complex system; if one does not know one’s true nature and true mind, you can end up fooling even yourself!”- Unknown There are certain circumstances we all face that cannot be change, however we can control our minds and thoughts towards them instead of living in fear!

Being in the fitness industry our egos like us to think we can control our

Yes, self-doubt creeps in every now and then however it has decreasing significantly over the last few month since I’ve been in Yoga training & more counseling. I currently in a situation that I cannot do anything about but I can control my mind and thoughts about it. When I allow the HOW, WHY, WHAT, WHERE questions to creep in my mind I am allowing self doubt to creep in as well. It’s hard to deal with sometimes but I am learning that if I continue to control my mind that I can be in ultimate control of my happiness and love myself more. So even though I can’t change certain issues, I can control and change the way I think about them. Positivity will continue to follow through. If we, especially LGBT Community, realize how much we can control our mind instead of our minds controlling us, I believe we could be even better than we already are. The mind matters most is the one of the most important lesson I’ve learned in my 37 years of living. For me I can honestly tell you that the MIND MATTERS MOST. Sherry On Top

Sherry Vine: I am super excited about the new series, Trade2Trade. We’ve always wanted a show that featured skin but in a way no one had seen before. Director David Serrano did a gorgeous job and I think people will laugh, learn and lust. Can we expect more of your nightlife pals making surprise cameos? Sherry Vine: Totally! We got Jackie Beat, Joey Arias and many more coming up! I’m talking to Bianca del Rio about making a guest appearance. What about Andy Cohen? You’re a regular on his late night talk show. Sherry Vine: Maybe! If something comes up that I think Andy might get a kick out of, I’ll ask. He’s always super sweet and has been very supportive of gaySVTVworld. Are you ready to address the rumors that you are dating Chris Semers, your co-star on Sherry and the Greek? The web’s favorite queer network returns for its second season this Fall with even more gay content including Trade2Trade, its first talk show featuring sexy men stripped down to the bare-essentials. “I couldn’t be more proud of my little gay baby,” says Sherry Vine from her NYC home. gaySVTVworld launched earlier this year. Billed as a one-stop, digital destination for all of the world’s LGBTQ entertainment needs, the intention was to roll out new programs, music videos and comedy sketches every few months. With nearly 16,000,000 views, gaySVTVworld continues to supersede expectations. In addition to several new series, returning with brand new episodes will be network favorite’s Sherry and The Greek and Empty Your Sack, Queen. We sat down with Miss Vine to learn more. Is the internet strong enough to withstand another season of gaySVTVworld?

Sherry Vine: Honey, I hope so! We are coming at ya strong with sexy new shows and comedy and of course tons of music video parodies. What’s the biggest lesson you learned from the first season? Sherry Vine: That running a gay network is a lot of work! But its important to not stress out. I strive for plan A but always have a plan B ready, just in case. Is there a lot of pressure to keep growing the viewership?

Sherry Vine: Oh honey, Chris is a hot, sexy young man. He’s no clown screwer! Our relationship is maternal. And I can’t get him off Grindr or Jack’d or Scruff. Please insert the name of the app that wants to support our channel with paid advertising. Someone’s gotta pay for it since it’s totally free for viewers. So you and Chris will not be the next Brangelina? Sherry Vine: We’re more the gay version of Kelly and Michael - before all their drama. The second season of gaySVTVworld premieres October 2nd, completely free at YouTube.com/MissSherryVine.

Sherry Vine: Yes! If you’re reading this, please subscribe. I’ll do almost anything to keep viewers tuning in! What is one thing you are not willing to do? Sherry Vine: Full frontal. The channel is comedy, not tragedy. What are you most looking forward to in the new season? FENUXE.COM : 27

BOOK REVIEW:

O

“SORRY, NOT SORRY”

h, the things you did in your youth!

All those late nights, sneaking out of the house and thinking your parents didn’t know (they did). The crazy things you did on the road, hoping the police would never stop you (they did). The parties, the goofy fashions, the drama, all the fun and all the regrets… like author Naya Rivera, are you “Sorry Not Sorry”? Even before she entered the world, Naya Rivera says she loved the spotlight. Her mother was a model while pregnant with Rivera and almost as soon as Rivera was born, she became a model, too. She did print ads, then a few commercials until, at five years old, she landed a part on a comedy with Redd Foxx. Alas, when Foxx died, the show did, too, and after some minor guest spots and TV commercials, Rivera became just a regular “awkward” Hollywood preteen with “quarter-white, quarterblack, half-Puerto Rican, and all frizz hair.” She longed for straight hair, curves and a boyfriend. She missed her career. But adolescence wasn’t the only hard thing Rivera dealt with: her father was on-andoff-unemployed, a their family of five moved from veritable mansions to near-hovels, and there were more times than not when Rivera had no money for extras at all. But yet, in a weird Hollywood twist, she “was almost always financially helping my family in some way” through funds set aside when she was a kindergartener. That caused a lot of pressure, and Rivera became anorexic. At age eighteen, she got the rest of the funds, and went a little wild. Taught by her father about money management, she nevertheless let credit cards get out of hand and she fell into trouble. For that, she is sorry. She’s also sorry for drooling on Nicole Richie, starving herself, focusing on “material things,” sleeping with a married man, the death of a friend, and an abortion. She’s not sorry for writing down her goals, occasional splurges, lying on a resume, her lesbian character on Glee, “being an other,” or falling in love with the right man.

Having read my share of namedropping, chirpy H’wood bios, I approached this one with caution. Turns out, I didn’t need to: “Sorry Not Sorry” is actually very good. Yes, author Naya Rivera drops names, but how can she not? She grew up in the midst of other stars in a town filled with stars; still, rather than breezy bragging about knowing famous people, readers get a sense that Rivera knows how unusual her friendships were and how special her growing-up was, despite the poverty she endured. This is a chatty book; Rivera writes to her readers, rather than at them, which is refreshing. She’s also quick to reveal her mistakes and regrets, but she’s not preachy in the least; in fact, she offers a personal story rather than advice. That, and the happy ending we’re handed, makes this a sometimes-funny, sometimesoutrageous memoir that’s easy to like. If that sounds perfect, “Sorry Not Sorry” is a book you won’t regret reading. COMMUNITY

LOVING THE “LUX LIFE” By Tom Tietjen

COMPANY FREAK’S NEW EP IS AN EPIC CELEBRATION OF THE LIBERATING SOUND AND ERA OF STUDIO 54 Company Freak’s “Le Disco Social” received national acclaim in 2014 for its retro-futuristic tracks combining orchestral disco soul with modern, electronic flair. At long last, the group that features an out front man alongside a rotating group of legendary singers and musicians is releasing its second EP, Lux Life. Lux Life stretches the band even further into the stratosphere with an eclectic and exuberant mix of planetary dance floor rhythms. Once again, group head Jason King recruits iconic musicians like Norma Jean Wright and Alfa Anderson from the disco group Chic and mixes in some fresh new voices for a magically rich album. “Lux Life was born from a hook I was singing in my head when I was watching The Kardashians’,” explains King. “I was inspired to write a song that was both a homage to and a cheeky take on the upscale lifestyles that disco songs in the 70’s used to promote. Songs like “Good Times” by Chic or “Bourgie Bourgie” by Ashford & Simpson. Also, the whole idea of dressing up in your fanciest clothes to go out to Studio 54 or to go shopping at the long-gone department store Fiorucci’s.” King never lived in that New York or in that time, but he wanted to honor that moment and style in his new album. Lux Life leads with “Look What Your Love Has Done For Me”, an Ethiopian-synth-funk meets 80s-dancepop confection featuring vocalist Cassondra James. Recorded in Addis Ababa (the capital of Ethiopia), 30: October 7, 2016

the track was engineered by Ethiopia’s most famous producer, Abegasu Shiota and features Girum Mezmer, one of the country’s most prodigious jazz guitarists. Next up is the title track, a true Chic-fest featuring the vocals of original lead singers Alfa Anderson and Norma Jean Wright along with original Chic keyboardist Tom Coppola on piano and Jerry Barnes of Nile Rodgers’ current Chic group on bass. It is proceeded by the sassy, charged-up no-nonsense track “Rebound Love”, with vocals by Matia Washington. Then Cassondra Kellman returns with “Get Myself Together,” a self-motivational jam that recalls the under appreciated 80s British new jack pop that formed at the nexus of house, hip-hop and post-disco. Following Kellman is underground house music legend Dawn Tallman who lights fire to the showpiece-anthem “Equal Rights”. Then comes the dark and moody “Drones”, a new wave disco track that pulls no punches, diving headfirst into news headlines and political strife. “I grew up on disco and all that great early 80s pop like Michael Jackson and Prince,” King explains. “That was when music on the radio had arrangement, structure, drama, sophistication, and style.” King is something of a musical wiz. In addition to heading Company Freak, he is a real professor and director at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, a music business training program at New York University. He is also the host and producer of NPR’s “Noteworthy”, a show that shines a light on the creative process of

music superstars including recent guests Maxwell, Miguel, and Alicia Keyes. “Company Freak is a passion project for me,” he continues. “It’s about using all of my skills to put together a fantasy that speaks to artistic excellence and serves as a kind of living archive for the rich, sophisticated musical sounds I’ve always been into. It’s also a really great showcase for my original writing and production and I get to work with the singers and musicians I most admire in the world. What could be better?” Company Freak’s Lux Life is available October 28th on iTunes and on all major online retailers through Opus Label. Visit www.companyfreak. com

Gay News At A Glance RESEARCHERS BELIEVE THEY MAY HAVE FOUND A ‘FULL CURE’ FOR HIV

The results of a recent HIV treatment trial run by several British institutions are promising, and may mean the discovery of a cure for HIV. Fifty patients took part in the trial, conducted by Imperial College London, University College London, King’s College London and the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The NHS also supported the research. In one patient there no sign of the virus after a months long trial. The man, aged 44 and a social worker in London, told the Times: ‘It would be great if a cure has happened. My last blood test was a couple of weeks ago and there is no detectable virus.’ It may yet be the result of conventional treatments and so doctors are wary of announcing the trial a success. ‘It could be the anti-retroviral therapies, so we have to wait to be sure,’ he said. It will be several months before they can say for sure.

KENYA’S MOST NOTORIOUS ANTILGBTI OFFICIAL TO BE HOSTED BY GOOGLE Kenya’s most notorious anti-LGBTI official will be hosted by Google at its summit on digital literacy and safety. 38: October 7, 2016

‘I took part in the trial to help others as well as myself. It would be a massive achievement if, after all these years, something is found to cure people of this disease. ‘The fact that I was a part of that would be incredible,’ he added. The new treatment uses both conventional HIV treatments and a new drug that reactivates old HIV cells, and uses them to teach the body to attack HIV cells, simlar to a vaccine. There are treatments available for HIV currently, but none that cure the virus permanently. Truvada, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), can significantly help prevent people from catching the virus if taken daily. Even if the cure does work a treatment deriving will be a ‘long way’ off, says professor Sarah Fidler, a consultant physician

at Imperial College. The managing director at the Health Research Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, Mark Samuels, said: ‘This is one of the first serious attempts at a full cure for HIV. We are exploring the real possibility of curing HIV.’ The institution was instrumental in setting up the program. ‘This is a huge challenge and it’s still early days but the progress has been remarkable,’ he said.

Via his Facebook post, the head of Kenya Film Classification Board, Ezekiel Mutua, bragged that he had no trouble getting a US visa to attend the summit organised by Google’s Web Rangers at its headquarters in Mountain View, California. In his post, Mutua also bragged about how he ‘didn’t even have to go to the Embassy for biometrics or pay the visa application fee’, and had the visa ‘delivered to my [his] office free of charge’. This appears largely in contrast to other Kenyan entrepreneurs, students and children who are often refused visas. Mutua, one of Kenya’s most outspoken anti-LGBTI rights campaigners, has been on a crusade to ban any LGBTI-postive content – including demanding YouTube to take down a music video celebrating same-sex relationships. As head of the government agency that

regulates all forms of visual content in the country, he has also banned a film on Kenya’s LGBTI community, a podcast hosted by a lesbian and singer duo as well as a a gay speed-dating event in its capital, Nairobi. When Netflix first launched in Kenya, he called it a threat to the country’s ‘moral values and national security’. On social media, while Kenyans had called Mutua a ‘petty and dangerous religious zealot’, others had asked if the US could keep him. In response, Mutua called one of his detractors a ‘bloody fool’. Same-sex relationships are currently criminalized in Kenya, punishable with up to 14 years in prison. Gay people are known to have been evicted from homes, forced to flee the country or placed under arrest. In May last year, Kenyan newspaper Citizen Weekly also published on its front page the names and photos of 12 LGBTI activists and leaders. To top it all, the country’s High Court has ruled in June this year that anal probe torture is a ‘reasonable’ way to prove the crime of homosexuality – which essentially means any person in Kenya can now be legally tortured to find out if they are gay.

207 KIDS WERE ARRESTED UNDER INDIA’S ANTI-GAY LAW

At least 207 teenagers and children under India’s anti-homosexuality law in 2015. Around 96 were aged between 16 and 18, 100 were between 12 and 16, and 11 were aged under 12, according to new figures released by the National Crime Records Bureau. In 2013, any sexual act apart from missionary heterosexual sex was recriminalized in India under Section 377 of the Penal code. The colonial-era law, which is used to prosecute homosexuality under the term ‘unnatural’, could lead to anyone convicted to spending up to 10 years in prison. The Times of India reports police arrested 1,491 people under Section 377 last year. 16 of them were women. In June, India’s Supreme Court has refused to hear a petition challenging a law criminalizing gay sex. This was the third time the country had voted to keep Section 377 in six months. Shashi Tharoor, a National Congress MP who has repeatedly attempted to repeal the law, says a curative review is the last hope for activists to get the gay sex ban lifted. ‘Indian culture and history reveal no intolerance of sexual difference or orientation,’ Tharoor has said. ‘[But many politicians] prefer British colonial law.’

POPE FRANCIS SAYS ‘GENDER THEORY’ IS ENEMY Pope Francis described ‘gender theory’ as a major ‘enemy’ of traditional marriage at a small meeting of Catholics in Georgia, Azerbaijan. In answer to a woman’s question, he said: ‘You mentioned a great enemy of marriage: gender theory. ‘Today, there is a global war out to destroy marriage,’ he continued,

‘…not with weapons but with ideas. We have to defend ourselves from ideological colonization.’ He has previously described his idea of ‘ideologiccal colonization’: Saying richer countries sometimes promise economic aid with a proviso they comply with Western social policies like gay marriage. Pope Francis has at times announced his support for the gay community – or least implied they should not be treated harshly within Christian communities.

TWO FORMER NUNS GET MARRIED IN CIVIL CEREMONY IN ITALY

Two former nuns who met on their mission are to get married in a civil ceremony in Italy. Franciscan nuns Federica and Isabel met a rehabilitation center for drug addicts and they soon got close. As they fell in love, they renounced their habit and have now spoken out against the Catholic Church’s view on homosexuality. ‘God wants people happy, to live the love in the light of the sun,’ Isabel recently told La Stampa, the Italian daily newspaper. The two brides said that they have not lost their faith and would not otherwise have wanted to leave the church. ‘We call upon our church to welcome all people who love each other,’ added Federica. The two women were joined in a civil union in a ceremony at Pinerolo City Hall. While the ceremony was supposed to take place today, they had their union a day earlier because they wanted to avoid photographers. Luca Salvai, the Five Star Movement mayor who performed the ceremony, told La Stampa: ‘We have guaranteed the right to privacy for this couple, who asked for discretion.’ It was the second ever same-sex civil union ceremony performed in the town of Pinerolo since Italy passed legislation to legalize same-sex unions earlier this year.
