Cathedral of Havana Cuba is not open to regular tourism It is open to organized pre-approved travel Itineraries Americans can legally go to Cuba only if the trip falls within one of 12 categories. Here are the 12 categories: visits to close relatives, academic programs, professional research, journalistic or religious activities and participation in public performances or sports competitions. They can also go to organize a professional event or competition, to film and produce television programs and movies, to record music and to create art there - And US citizens can go to Cuba for educational or cultural exchanges. It is referred to as "People to People" travel. Ordinary tourism remains off-limits. Our trip to Cuba falls under the educational or cultural exchanges, called "People to People" travel AND is completely legal.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has worked with the US Government to make sure their "People to People" shore excursions falls under the educational or cultural exchanges section of the law – which makes it legal for US Citizens to visit Cuba. The owners of Fun For Less Tours have been to Cuba twice. Both times they have taken the organized People to People shore excursions. They felt their People to People tours were as good as any tours they would want to take when in Cuba. The shore excursions are a great mix of culture and history, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, also including city tours and meeting the local people. You also have some free time to explore once you have fulfilled the legal requirements to be in Cuba. Our price includes all of your necessary "People to People" shore excursions. This is the only safe way to visit Cuba. Any other way is breaking U.S. Law and subject to fines and harassment.

We Have the Right Cruise and Tour! With Cuba Approved Itinerary We looked at many tour and cruise companies that offered approved travel itineraries. We wanted to try and figure the full prices that would include everything except the airfare. We took into consideration the following: All transfers, if you arranged your flight times on or before our Fun For Less group flights., ship taxes, ship port charges, ship fees, SHIP TIPS, legal "People to People" Full Day shore excursions in every port in Cuba, deluxe hotel in Miami, all entrance fees, educator costs​, tour managers costs​and the ​​cost to enhance and create a private shore excursion​experience​exclusive for our group,. We then applied it all to 5 different choices we found. The price range was staggering, take a look: • 7 Night Land Tours: We looked at Back Roads Cultural Land Tours and Insight Cuba Tours, both were reputable companies that have been doing trips to Cuba for years. The cost of tours with approved itineraries and deluxe hotels for 7 nights, with everything needed, was between $5,000 & $7,000 per person. The Land Tours usually visited Havana and two or three other cities. We could not understand why it was so expensive until we started checking on quality hotel costs. A good hotel in Havana could easily cost $500 to $800 a night. Even then, everything we read stated that hotel ratings were not accurate, they are not up to US standards and food was not very good.

• 3 & 4 Night Cruise: The least expensive were cruises that had a one day or two-day stop in Havana. We found several cruises with a short stop in Havana, Cuba. Most only spent 1 day in Havana and then went on to other Caribbean Islands. The one we considered the most was a 4 night NCL cruise. It included only one stop in Cuba, 1 ½ days in Havana and one stop at another Caribbean Island, before returning to Miami. When we took all costs into consideration, their cheapest inside cabin, the hotel night before the cruise, the cost of shore excursions, port charges, tips, transfers, etc., it was over $1,500. Better than the land tours, but not what we really wanted.

• We wanted at least 3 ports of call in Cuba. We found 3 cruises that offered a minimum of 3 ports of call. A 10-night cruise on a luxury Pearl Seas cruise ship out of Miami, a 7-night cruise on a first class Celestyal Cruise Ship out of Jamaica and an 8-night cruise on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship out of Miami.

• The 10-night Cruise option: Pearl Seas Cruise ship is a luxury boutique ship with every cabin having its own private balcony. They offer a 10-night cruise with several stops as they go all the way around Cuba. The least expensive cabin, along with shore excursions, hotel, transfers, port charges, etc. The cost was $8,400 per person.

• The 7-night cruise ship out of Jamaica was the lowest quality of our three ships. We decided to not consider this ship as it was out of Jamaica.

• The 8-night cruise ship option: Royal Caribbean’s cruise ship has 3 stops in Cuba, PLUS a stop at their private resort in Haiti. The least expensive cabin, along with shore excursions, hotel, transfers, port charges, hotel in Miami, etc. The cost is under 2,000.

To sum it all up. The land choices were not only too expensive, they often ended up with poor hotels that much of the time had no electrical power. The 4-night cruise, while cheap was not worth going all the way to Cuba for one stop. When comparing the three cruise choices, Royal Caribbean’s quality, pricing and itinerary became the very BEST choice out of the cruise choices AND also became the BEST choice overall.

• Rothenburg ob der tauber: It is Germany’s best preserved ancient walled city dating from the 12th century. When we were last there our guide pointed out his home. His family had continually occupied the home since the 1300’s. It didn’t make it into the top 10 but did make it into some top 20 lists. Not bad when you consider the number of Christmas Markets.

• Regensburg, Germany: One of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities, as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy one of Bavaria’s most beautiful and romantic Christmas Markets at Thurn and Taxis Palace.

• Picturesque Passau: A fairy-tale city funded more than 2,000 years ago. At Christmas time the city dresses in her Bavarian holiday splendor.

• Linz, Austria: Linz is known for being the city of Christmas Crèches (Nativities). Linz’s old town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Melk – Durnstein – Krems: We will visit the magnificent Benedictine Abby (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and sail thought the most picturesque section of the Danube – the breathtaking Wachau Valley.

• Vienna, Austria: On all three lists Vienna was #2 or #3 or #4. It really is the next best Christmas Markets town. Vienna is the home of music and palaces. This will all be a highlight day.

We have combined a fantastic Exotic Danube River Cruise with a wonderful Christmas Markets Tour. There is not room enough to express how fantastic this tour is. Some of the unique places we visit that others do not:

• Dazu: for over 1,000 years monks carved life-size figures out of stone. They have over 60,000 stone carvings in the Dazu Grotto. We were the first to bring American Groups. When we went the first time, there were only a few backpackers.

It has since become a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Shenzhen China Cultural Village: Think of the Polynesian cultural Village in Hawaii, and you will get an idea of what this is. The Chinese asked the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii to help build them a Cultural village that would display the dress and customs of their many ethnic tribes inside of China. As far as we know, we are still the only company that has ever brought American Groups to the China Cultural Village.

• Zhangjiajie Mountains: We were the first ever to bring American Groups to Zhangjiajie. This is likely the most beautiful place on earth. It is where they filmed the floating mountains of Avatar. Yes, those mountains actually exist, they filmed them at Zhangjiajie and then used CG editing to cut off the bottoms so they appeared to be floating in the movie. This is a highlight of highlights in China.

• Very few companies offer both the Yangtze and the Li River in one tour. Usually, you have to pick the Li River or the Yangtze; you can’t do both. If you are going to China, you need to do both.

• Bottom Line: We designed our tour to bring the very best of China, you will see and experience more with us than any other company. China should be your #1 Choice. • The Qingyuan Lianzhou Underground River – Another First! We will be the first ever to bring American groups to this unique underground river cave. Inside the cave, a zigzag river runs through three little picturesque gorges which are respectively called 'Longmen Gorge,' 'Lotus Gorge' and 'Banana Gorge' according to their shapes. You will travel by boat about 30 football fields on the river running through possibly the most beautiful cave you will ever experience.

• Pingyao: China’s best-preserved ancient walled town. The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is often called a living museum. Even though the ancient walled town is hundreds of years old, the building are all lived in. The first banking system in China started in Pingyao. This will be a major highlight.

• Guangzhou Zoo and Shows: A great place to see Pandas is at the Guangzhou Zoo. The Zoo also has many animal shows to enjoy. We will also enjoy a fantastic evening show across from our luxury hotel.

• High-Speed Trains: When you consider the time driving to and from airports, time waiting to board your flight, along with flight times - high-speed trains often take less time and are more enjoyable. The only issue with high-speed trains in China is where to put the large suitcases Americans travel with. We solved the problem, by trucking your luggage to your next city while you travel comfortably by high-speed train. With other companies you will end up with your luggage where your feet should be. Your luggage will arrive the same day, just a little later. When you return from touring your luggage will be in your hotel room in the next city. NO one else has this service!!!

Why We Have the BEST Silk Road Tour

There have been two ways to travel the silk road through Central Asia. By bus and by train. When we started working on this tour we talked to many that had traveled the Silk Road by bus, we wanted to know how much they liked their bus tour. They all said the same thing - that they loved the sites but absolutely hated the extremely long exhausting drives on bad roads to get from one place to another. They all felt a private train would be a much better option! The owners of Fun For Less Tours experienced the Silk Road by private train in 2015. They absolutely loved the train, it would travel by night from one place to another and then they would park the train during the day so you had time to see all the fantastic sites. There was only one drawback to the train Jim and Carol went on – it visited less countries than doing it by bus. We wanted to do all the countries AND we wanted to do it by train. The only way we could do that was to charter the whole train and design our own itinerary that included the additional countries. It took us six months to get permission for our private train to enter the additional countries we wanted, we now include all of the countries that would be done by bus. We are the only ones in the world that offers a private train tour that covers China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. We were the first to ever bring a private train into Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan – the only other way to visit all these countries in the past was by vehicle that often involved many 10 hour drive days on bad roads. Chartering the Whole Train Gave Us FANTASTIC PRICING

When the owners of Fun For Less Tours went on the Silk Road train in 2015 that visited only 3 countries, there were 16 passengers from the USA on the same train. They knew we were preparing for a group in 2017. They also knew we were going to add the Silk Road in China and most likely visit additional countries that were not included on our 2015 train trip.

They asked what we might be charging our group when we put it all together. There was no way to be accurate, but we could give an estimate as we knew what our costs would be in China and had some estimated pricing for the train. We took our train cost estimate, added extra for additional countries, added China, added our best guess on airfare in China and then gave them our best guess price. Their program was a 14-day tour, we estimated our future program to be a 20-day tour.

They were shocked, at our estimated pricing! For the same cabin category, without China, educator and additional countries we planned to include, they had paid almost $3,000 more per person than we estimated we would charge our passengers for everything. We not only have the best tour for the Silk Road, we have the best pricing! Chartering the whole train created huge savings! We have the best price possible!

Why NOW IS THE TIME We contracted for three chartered Silk Road Train Tours. 2017, 2018 and 2019. When 2018 and 2019 are sold out, we do not know when we will be able to do this again. We have not been able to get a contract for 2020 as they are using their train in other parts of Europe. We do hope we will be able to charter the train again in the future, but no one knows. This once in a lifetime tour of Israel will visit many sites that other tours miss, some even leave off Bethlehem.

Our special Holy Land tour includes all of the important sites in Israel such as Jerusalem, Garden Tomb, Galilee, Bethlehem, Masada, the Dead Sea, Christ's Baptismal site and more. It also includes the ruins of Petra in Jordan.

This once in a lifetime tour will visit many sites that others are not able to see when they go to Israel. For example: The City of Lehi excavations, located a short distance down from Jerusalem. This is where caves were discovered with writings on the inside walls. It was determined that the writings were by a prophet in hiding that date approx. 600 BC. The Arabs have considered the hill above the cave to be a sacred place. As they put it – “before Mohamed there was a great prophet named Lehi and he taught from that hill.” Even the archaeologists in Jerusalem now call the area Beit Lehi. We do not know if this is our Lehi, but we do know this will be a huge highlight as you visit an active archaeological dig. The excavations are on an army base. Only those excavating and Fun For Less Tours have been given permission to go onto the site. NOTE: The excavations are now far enough along, there are stairs into the underground excavations.

An astonishing 50,000 camels along with cattle and horses are brought to Pushkar each year to barter and sell. It’s a fascinating and spectacular sight that will rank at the top of your list of travel experiences. Less than 2% of the visitors to India get the opportunity to attend a Pushkar Festival. There are only a few 5-star hotels and a few 1 to 2-star small hotels at Pushkar, so most of the visitors have to stay in tents during their visit to the festival. The Sacred Grove

We will start our fantastic Church History Tour in Palmyra, the Sacred Grove, and the Hill Cumorah. We will then follow the legacy-rich path of the saints from Palmyra to Kirtland, on to Independence, Far West, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Liberty Jail and then finally into Nauvoo and Carthage. We will not be traveling by wagon train - we are going to fly from Kirtland to Independence! Flying eliminates two full days of traveling by bus (and two months if traveling by wagon.) Along with our own prepared manual, each bus will have qualified educators and escorts that have been to the Church History sites before.
