Dr. S. Michael Wilcox has been after us for many years wanting us to put together a tour that would include the Galapagos Islands. The issue always comes down to space and pricing. We have always prepared our tours about 1 year out and for the rest of the world that has been the right timing, but every time we have tried to put a tour to Galapagos, by land or by ship, one year before our desired date there was never room for a group. Like the Trans-Siberian Rail, if you want to get space for a group you need to start working on it two years before your desired date. Your tour to Galapagos will be in December of 2016.

We, along with Michael, have spent many hours trying to figure out the best itinerary, ship or hotels to use. We have come to the following conclusions: • Most of the Galapagos Islands are quite similar. You don’t go to Galapagos to see the islands. You go to Galapagos to see the unique animals, birds, sea life, Darwin and its history. It is not necessary to do 7 to 14 day cruises or tours to experience Galapagos and its wildlife. We decided 5 days of touring several islands would accomplish what we need for our passengers. • Finding space for a good size group even on ships that hold 100 is hard because they will only give you a small number of the less expensive cabins. The cost skyrockets as you go up in cabin categories. • On larger ships it also means when you stop at an island you have 100 passengers going ashore at the same time. • We finally decided to stay on the main island in a deluxe hotel and use it as a base.

This program offers us several advantages:

• Hotel vs ship: Our quality hotel is less expensive than a quality ship. On a ship a few would get the starting prices, but the majority would have to pay for the expensive upgraded cabin categories. • We feel the itinerary we have put together would accomplish all that is most important to see in Galapagos. We can see the wildlife and get a great feel for Galapagos during our visit to 5 of the islands during our 5 days on Galapagos. Additional days and islands is much more expensive and all you do is see the same wildlife all over again. • We plan on having only about 60 passengers. We will then split the 60 into to smaller groups of about 30 passengers each. Each group would go to a different island by boat and then return to the group and base in the evening. Being in smaller groups we hope it will be less crowded compared to the larger ship groups. • Deluxe hotels on Galapagos are limited and not large. We were finally able to get the right hotel to take our whole group (which is not easy) and give us a large enough room at the hotel for Michael to talk to us daily.

This will be one vacation/tour you will never forget. In addition to the Galapagos Islands, we spend 4 nights in the wonderful quaint city of Quito. The Equator is just a few miles from Quito and there is so much to see and do. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the world surrounded by ancient volcanos and the majestic Andes Mountains all with beautiful scenery. Wait till you experience how water flows on different sides of the equator or try to walk without tipping right down the equator line. We absolutely love Quito and all it has to offer. Our nights in Quito will be spent in the JW Marriott luxury hotel. If that wasn’t enough, we will also spend 4 days 3 nights on the majestic Amazon River. Many feel this is the best place to really enjoy the Amazon River. Along with getting accommodations in Galapagos that is always sold out, we had issues trying to arrange our trip to the Amazon. There are only two really great places we feel are the best to take our passengers to. One is a ship called the “Anakonda”, the other is a small deluxe lodge that is located on the Amazon River. Here was the problem. The lodge has only 16 double rooms or can only hold 32 passengers. The “Anakonda” is maxed out around 36 in double rooms. It took us a while, but we finally were able to buy out the whole Anakonda ship. It meant anyone else scheduled had to change to other dates. We also bought out the whole lodge on the Amazon. Their stays are 3 nights twice a week and then they close one day. Not only did they have to cancel other reservations, the day we wanted to start was their normal day off. We had to get them to not only take us, but start on the normal day off they give everyone. This really was a long time jigsaw puzzle to put all this together. Important information: approx. ½ of our passengers will experience the Amazon on a deluxe ship and the other ½ will experience the Amazon from a wonderful lodge. There is a less expensive public train that is used by locals and back packers that goes from Moscow to Beijing, BUT you cannot afford the public train and here is why:

• There are no Luxury trains Beijing to Moscow. The public train is a one star or less in quality. You would not enjoy the ride. Our private train is not a 5-star luxury train, but it is a wonderful first class or deluxe train. It far exceeds the quality of the public train. • The public train has a schedule to keep. In 2016 the package directly through the Private Train for their full package listed on pg. 12 is over 9,500. Our complete package that includes everything in the private train package PLUS Michael Wilcox, upgraded hotel in Beijing and Fun For Less Tour Managers is $8,395. That’s over $1,100 less than the normal train package. If the Trans-Siberian Rail is anywhere near your bucket list of places to see and visit – don’t walk to the phone – run to the phone and call us. We are going to be very limited in the numbers we can take. We plan to add 2 optional extensions: One will be in China the other will be an extension to St. Petersburg. Don’t Put This Off!!! Starting in 2012 environmentalists created strict regulations that every large ship had to burn a special biodegradable fuel. It required large ships to be dry docked for almost two weeks. During that time they would have to empty the unacceptable fuel, physically go inside the large fuel tanks and manually scrub away any old fuel. It was such a headache, Princess and other cruise lines stopped going to the Antarctic. For 2012, 2013 and 2014 Holland America continued to return, each year suggesting this would be their last. When our group was there this last January, they stopped suggesting they might not return. So for now, it looks like it has been popular enough to continue taking one or two sailings each year. When will it end, no one knows, we just know the environmentalists don’t want the big ships in the area. So don’t put it off because it could end suddenly, plus every year it becomes more expensive. 2015 Season at the Utah Shakespeare Festival The Adams Shakespearean Theatre will feature three plays by William Shakespeare, playing from June to August. First is the Festival’s continuation of its History Cycle with the fourth play in Shakespeare’s theatrical chronicle of England and its kings: Henry IV Part Two. Henry IV Part Two picks up where Henry IV Part One left off. Theatregoers won’t want to miss this epic family drama that ultimately leads up to the War of the Roses. Also in the Adams Theatre will be two of the Bard’s greatest works, King Lear and The Taming of the Shrew – two shows on opposite ends of the theatrical spectrum. One demonstrates a mighty king who falls into a state of tragic disintegration and madness while the other is a witty, slapstick comedy about the battle of the sexes. In the Randall L. Jones Theatre will be Rodgers and Hammerstein’s captivating and Pulitzer Prize winning musical South Pacific, as well as Amadeus, Peter Shaffer’s brilliant fictionalized account of the lives of composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. Why this year is the best year to explore India The BEST educator: Dr. S. Michael Wilcox. When Michael went to India a couple of years ago, there were three things that were not available on that tour that we were able to put into our 2015 tour. The famous Pushkar Festival, the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur (the most impressive fort in the world) and the country of Bhutan tucked into the tops of the Himalayas. All three have been included in 2015. With all that we have planned for him over the next 5 years we do not expect he will be able to return again. The purchase power of the dollar: Not long ago we were getting 42 Rupee’s (India’s currency) for each dollar. We are now getting 61 Rupee’s for each dollar. You do not need to be a math teacher to understand that everything has become less expensive. India is trying to do things that would take the number of Rupee’s per dollar below 50 so the savings will not last. Our 2015 group is using the savings to improve the tour AND upgrade many of our hotels to opulent Maharaja Palaces! The quality of hotels in India can make or break your tour. Most 3 and some 4 star hotels are not up to US standards and are not always safe. Our hotels for the most part beat 5 star US standards.
