The Volga River is a trip that should be high on your bucket list! Finding the right ship, we wanted for our group, to do the Volga River was easy; getting them to let us take over the whole ship and allow us to do our own itinerary was not as easy. It has taken two years to get what we wanted and to create this NEW tour. In addition to the many stops on the Volga River we have added visits to St. Petersburg and Moscow. Even if you have been to Moscow or St. Petersburg before, both of these great cities are worth visiting again. We believe we are going to make your visit even more memorable. In St. Petersburg, our tour of the Hermitage will be a Private Tour before it opens and in Moscow we are going to do a Back Stage Tour of the Bolshoi Theater. Our tour is 17 days long, 4 of the days will be spent touring Moscow and St. Petersburg the rest will be spent enjoying the staggering beauty of the Volga river with it’s quaint villages AND the exploration of Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea. TURNING THIS INTO A “FANTASTIC WOW” TRIP The Volga River Cruise is a great cruise, it just needed a really good land tour added so it could turn into a fantastic trip. We looked at all of the possible options both in Russia and the countries surrounding Russia. We found the right option located at the bottom of Russia - the countries of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. They had several advantages: they border Russia, they all used to be part of the Russian Federation, there was inexpensive airfare to get there, we have never offered any of these countries on a tour or an extension and we could add the Caspian Sea. They became the perfect candidate. Now all we had to do was visit these countries to make sure they would work. In May of 2016, several members of the Tyndall family (owners of Fun For Less Tours) spent over a week exploring the countries of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. They spent every waking hour trying to visit every recommended site in each of the countries. The Tyndall’s loved the beauty of the country side, the mountains, the cities, the fortresses and the many ancient monasteries they were able to visit. This was exactly the tour they needed to add to our Volga River Cruise. They just needed to tweak the tour so it would be just right for our passengers. They picked the best of the best to see, eliminated the long drives and added an airfare from Baku to Tbilisi. We will use two cities as a base (Baku and Tbilisi) to visit all that we want you to experience. We can visit the best site in Armenia with a short drive from Tbilisi. You will also enjoy a boat ride on the Caspian Sea. Another advantage to doing these countries with the Volga was the cost of airfare. With Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan being part of the Russian Federation, there are a lot of Russians that live in these countries along with a lot of tourism from Russia to these countries. Airfare between these countries & Russia is very inexpensive.

With all the talk of improved relationships with Cuba recently and the visit of Obama, many feel Cuba is now open for tourism. Things have changed, but it has not completely opened up yet, and it will be many, many years before it will be able to fix up its infrastructure for tourism, especially the hotels. Cuba is high on our family’s bucket list and we have heard from others that travel with us, that they also have an interest in Cuba. We have looked into the options and talked with those that have recently visited Cuba. Here are the big issues we know about: • Cuba is NOT open to regular tourism as you normally experience in the Caribbean. Visitors are on a Cultural Exchange. Your visit to the many interesting Unesco World Heritage sites are mixed with Cuba Cultural visits to Museums, schools or other sites that demonstrates local culture. So one of the problems is trying to see what options would offer the most for what we feel is best to see and experience. • Those we talked to that have visited Cuba, loved the trip, but did not have a good experience in the hotels. Many of the hotels did not clean the room or change the bed until they found a maid and paid them extra to clean their room. With the many years of embargos on Cuba, many of the hotels are run down with time, and the lack of money has made it really hard to keep up with repairs and improvements. A cruise maybe the BEST option. We are looking at and talking to many cruise and local tour companies about arranging a tour that might fit both cultural visits and still see the important sites. We would look at doing a group if we can find the right tour or cruise. What kind of tours will we offer in 2020 with the Passion Play?

Oberammergau, Germany is centrally located and can be easily reached from all of Europe; including Scandinavia and the British Isles. In 2010 we even had tours that included Israel and the Middle East with the Passion Play. We will offer some short stay tours of 8 days that will stay close to Oberammergau, Germany, France and Switzerland; but the majority of our tours will be what we offer now. Depending on the number of tickets and the time of year of our tickets – we plan to add the Passion Play to some of our tours of the British Isles, Scandinavia, Italy & Greece, European Romance, Exotic Europe, Israel tours and so much more. We will likely create some new tours that will work around the Passion Play. Those that have signed up to be the “First To Know”, will be contacted first and be given first choice of tours and dates. We will send them a list of tours & dates that will be offered, to them and their friends, on a first come first served basis. None of our Passion Play tickets and tours will be open to others until after the “First To Know” have signed up with their first choice. Then, and only then, will we open it up to others. Major Addition To Our China Tour Our special tour to China is not a copy of other tour companies’ tours. Our tour was designed by Jim and Carol Tyndall (the owners of Fun For Less Tours) after many weeks of exploration in China. Their goal was to make sure you see the best of the best that China has to offer. In 2016 we added an optional extension to Zhangjiajie onto our China tour. China is Jim and Carol’s favorite place to visit in the world. They have been there more than 20 times with groups and on their own explorations. They were amazed at the unique beauty of the little known Zhangjiajie National Forest. They spent three days exploring Zhangjiajie and during that time they saw plenty of Chinese tourists, but never saw any European or American tourists. Zhangjiajie is now their favorite place in China! They had to find a way to add it to our already special China Tour. If you saw the movie Avatar, the stunningly beautiful hanging mountains were actually filmed in Zhangjiajie. They filmed the Zhangjiajie Mountains and then cut off the bottoms to give the illusion that they were hanging in midair. The Avatar Mountains do exist and they are in Zhangjiajie, China!

THE ENGELSTAD SHAKESPEARE THEATRE

William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and the theatrical adaptation of the Academy Award-winning movie Shakespeare in Love, will anchor the Engelstad Shakespeare Theatre. Shakespeare in Love is about young William Shakespeare, who, out of ideas and short of cash, meets his ideal woman and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet. Rounding out the Engelstad Theatre will be the Shakespeare comedy As You Like It. This rollicking frolic of confused courtship between Rosalind and Orlando features beautiful poetry and unsurpassed wit. It was last produced at the Festival in 2009. Those who have been following the Festival’s History Cycle (all ten of Shakespeare’s history plays produced in chronological order) may notice that there is no history play in the 2017 season. The Festival will continue the cycle in 2018, using the coming year to develop a production approach for the Henry VI plays which will tell the story of the War of the Roses and the Tudor dynasty in all its artistry and majesty.

THE RANDALL L. JONES THEATRE

First will be the classical musical Guys and Dolls, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling. Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls ran for over 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950. Winner of many Tony Awards and numerous other theatre prizes, it has been frequently revived and has proven to be perennially popular. Featuring such memorable songs as “A Bushel and a Peck” and “Luck Be a Lady,” this oddball romantic comedy will find a comfortable home at the Festival. Next will be the Mountain West premiere of Mary Zimmerman’s glorious adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island. This critically-acclaimed adaptation premiered in a joint production by Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago and Berkeley Rep in Berkeley, California. The Festival is the first theatre beyond them to receive rights to this play. This epic tale based on classic literature will thrill the entire family with tales of buried treasure, cutthroat pirates, the larger-than-life Long John Silver, and the courageous young cabin boy Jim Hawkins. A play with music,Treasure Island is dramatic story-telling at its theatrical best. Possibly Shakespeare’s most beloved comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream will also appear in the Randall Theatre. This story of fairies, dreams, and moonlight tells the tale of love which never does run smooth, of feuding fairy kings and queens, and of young lovers caught up in the world between waking and dreaming. Perhaps Shakespeare’s most accessible comedy, the entire family will enjoy the antics of Puck, Titania, and Nick Bottom and his hilarious band of rustics.

Our BEST Seating Ever Before seating is open to the public to purchase, it is first offered to those that contribute money or time to the Shakespeare Festival. Fun For Less Tours does not fall into this group. After receiving our seat assignments for this year (2015) we expressed our disappointment in the seats that were assigned to us. All of our seats were in the back half of the Orchestra section. We did not have any seats in the front half. We understand why the large donors and those involved in the plays should get first choice. We just wanted to be included in those getting first choice. We told the Festival we needed to be included in the first group for the following reasons: • This is more of a service then a profit center for us. By the time we pay for the hotels, the show tickets, three meals a day, thousands of dollars to rent our meeting space at the Festival, all tipping, money paid to actors for the private seminar, along with the cost of sending many staff members with all of their costs and the costs of Dr. Michael Wilcox – we make very little money. The winner in all of this are our customers AND the Shakespeare Festival. • We asked the Festival to look at the many years of our buying around 2000 show tickets each year, which is 10 times more than other groups have purchased. We felt they needed to consider the large number of tickets we buy each year as our donation to the Shakespeare Festival. • If we could not get better seating we would likely stop coming. Our petition did not fall on deaf ears! This year all of our seats were in the Orchestra, but in the back sections. The Festival has re-evaluated our position for next year. We already have our seats assigned and know exactly what we have to offer and believe us, they are GREAT! We ended up with 3 packages for next year. • Our Gold Package: Four of the plays are in Rows 1, 2, 3 or 4. The other two plays are in great Orchestra seating. NOTE: The Gold Package has already sold out. • Silver Package: Three of the plays are in Rows 1, 2, 3, or 4. The other three plays will be in good Orchestra seating. We still have space in our Silver Package. • Bronze Package: One of the plays will be in Rows 1, 2, 3 or 4. The rest of the seats are not bad, they are basically what we had this year. The Bronze Package will not go on sale until after we sell out our Silver Package. Approximately 40% of our seats are in the Gold Package, which has sold out. We also have about 40% of our seats in the Silver package and 20% of our seats are part of the Bronze Package. Not much difference between the Gold and Silver packages.
