Madagascar

Madagascar is one of the most fascinating countries in the world. It is also one of the poorest countries in the world with little to no tourist infrastructure. A number of years ago, we hand a small group that flew to Madagascar after doing one of our train tours through South Africa and the country of Namibia. Our Educator, Michael Wilcox, was part of that small group. They experienced first hand the lack of tourist infrastructure. Our group faced very poor hotels outside the capital of Madagascar and the quality of food was always questionable. The biggest issue was the gigantic long drives on extremely poor roads to reach the next National Park to visit. Even though they all faced many issues trying to tour in Madagascar, they all loved Madagascar. Because of the many infrastructure issues, we have put off offering another trip to Madagascar – UNTIL NOW! We have found a way to solve the issues of poor hotels, poor food and the long drives.

Noble Caledonia Island Sky The whole ship only holds a little over 100 passengers. It is absolute luxury from the suite cabins to the open spaces, to the luxurious meals. We work closely with a company in Germany that we charter our trains with for the Silk Road and our trains in Africa. Together we have chartered the Noble Caledonia Island Sky, along with designing the itinerary around the island of Madagascar, the island of Reunion and the island of Mauritius. With this ship we are able to get into areas that others are rarely able to visit. The perfect educator: Dr. Michael Wilcox was part of the small group that visited Madagascar. He always said he would love to go back. When we offered him the chance to be part of this special unique safari tour and cruise to Madagascar, there was no hesitation - he jumped at the chance to return to Madagascar. Even Jim and Carol Tyndall, owners of Fun For Less Tours, have decided this is one experience they can’t miss out on. They are also coming with you. It is important to understand, we get the first opportunity to sell the ship, there is a limited time for us to fill the ship before the remaining rooms are open to our German partners to finish selling the ship. Everything will be in English and we will hold our own lectures, but if possible, we would like to have the whole ship to ourselves. Important note: Your safaris in Kenya will be with Jim, Carol and Michael. The German company will only be able to sell into the empty cabins we are not able to fill on the ship. It is very important to know, our pricing for the ship AND the 7 days of safaris and deluxe game lodges is less than others will pay for only the time on the ship. Prices are normally around $14,000 per person for this ship's least expensive cabin. Our whole price, that INCLUDES Kenya is substantially less. Other than the large Island Suite, all of the cabins are of a similar size and quality, with small changes in layout - all are considered junior suites. The picture is of the lowest category - Standard Suite Cabins. Higher category cabins are located on different levels - UPGRADED cabins range from having a large picture window, to cabins that have a direct deck access, to cabins with private balconies. Below are the different cabins that you can upgrade to along with the upgrade pricing per person.

Cabin Categories:

• The Standard Suites are located on the Magellan Deck. All have large porthole windows. The Standard Suite Cabins are included in our special pricing! • The Superior Suite Cabins are located on the Columbus Deck. They all have, instead of porthole windows, a large picture window. These cabins are $690 more per person. • The Premium Suite Cabins are located on the Marco Polo Deck. The Marco Polo Deck has a promenade open deck that goes around the whole ship. The Premium Suite Cabins all have large sliding glass doors that open directly on to the promenade deck. These cabins are $1,190 more per person. • The Deluxe Balcony Suites are located on the Erikson Deck. Each cabin has large sliding glass doors that open up to their own private balcony. Jim and Carol Tyndall, along with Jamie, their daughter (owners of Fun For Less Tours), were able to experience this fantastic part of the world on a private train. At the time, the train was not visiting Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan. Knowing the train missed the countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, they went in early to explore the areas the train missed. Even though they had all traveled to over a hundred countries, they knew almost nothing about Central Asia and its history of the Silk Road. To say they were overwhelmed with the ancient beauty and the people – would be an understatement. To Jim, Carol and Jamie it shot right up near the top of all the places they have ever visited. After the trip, they agreed to charter the whole train for our groups – BUT, they needed to redesign the train's itinerary and needed to add the countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. A train is not like a bus that you can just take a different road, pull over almost anywhere and stop or park. Getting permission to travel by rail, wanting to stop and park your train like a bus is not easy. It took close to a year of working with all of the governments and local train companies to get permission to change our itinerary and add the additional two Stans - Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, The only reason this is possible, is because we are chartering the whole train, changing the itinerary, and adding additional nights on the train.

A Few Things to Consider:

• The huge price savings from our chartering the whole train. As far as we know, no one has ever chartered the entire private train through the Silk Road in Central Asia. Chartering the whole train created huge savings. Our price on the train is $1,300 per person less than what the train company charges when it is not a Charter AND they do not include all 4 countries and our improved itinerary! That is only reserved for our charters. • NO LONG DRIVES! On Jim and Carol’s trip they met many people traveling through the Silk Road by bus. When they asked how they liked their tour, everyone said they loved the sites, and the hotels, but the long drives were exhausting and grueling! They spent ½ of their time or more doing long drives. There were many days of driving that were 6 hours or more before they reached the next area to tour. Then when they arrived, they were given less time than they would have liked to see the sights. WE HAVE NO LONG DRIVES! We will travel by train at night and then tour during the day. Some of the bus travelers they met said they had looked at the train but it only visited 2 of the Stan countries. They wanted all 4, so they went by bus. Pictures don’t do Justice! Experience it in person, it will blow you away! Stunning is not a strong enough word to describe fields of Tulips in Bloom. The mixture of almost every color in the color spectrum is on display. It is truly an experience you will never forget! Weather and tulips blooming can never be fully predicted. History has shown the very best time of year to see the best of the Tulips is the middle to end of April. AmaWaterways knows that cruises that start after 15 April and end by May 1, have the best opportunity to see the Tulips at their best. During that time our charter discount is smaller, but still more than fair. We have contracted for two charters during their prime time. AmaWaterways rarely offers any discounts during this time, but for our groups, with our charter pricing we are still going to be able to save you between $600 to $1,500 per person, depending on the cabin of your choice. This really is a FANTASTIC DEAL. No one else can give you this kind of discount. The owners of Fun For Less Tours experienced a Tulip Cruise during the last ½ of April in 2019. They couldn’t have hit it any better. They already knew how wonderful Amsterdam is with its canals, windmills and museums and they had already visited Bruges, that is often considered better than Amsterdam, with its old village atmosphere and wonderful canals. The cruise took them to new villages and areas that they had not visited in the past. They loved visiting the dikes that hold back the sea, the village of Hoorn, the Grott Bijgaarden Castles Floral Show outside of Brussels and they loved the village of Ghent. But, what struck them the most was the stunning beauty of the colorful Tulip fields found everywher. Visiting this part of the world any other time of year, pales in comparison to Tulip season. AmaWaterways offers 7-night cruises starting March 20, with the last one ending May 7. The breeding of Tulips has extended the time Tulips can be seen. There are early blooming, normal blooming, and late blooming Tulips. The best of the best can be seen at Keukenhof Gardens, a little less than an hour’s drive out of Amsterdam. Every year more than 7 million flower bulbs are planted in autumn to bloom in spring. There is a variety of 800 different Tulips spread over almost 80 acres. There are 9 miles of footpaths through out the park, you can do as little or as much as you would like walking the park. Beautiful Tulips are everywhere. A unique and unforgettable experience for everyone. They are open from March 21 through May 10. The ship stops there for 3 plus hours, enough time to see less than ½ of the enormous Tulip extravaganza. • The ancient walled city of Pingyao: China’s best-preserved ancient walled city. The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is often called a living museum. Even though the ancient walled city is many hundreds of years old, the buildings are all lived in. The first banking system in China started in Pingyao. This will be a major highlight. • Pandas and the Guangzhou Zoo Shows: A great place to see Pandas is at the Guangzhou Zoo. The Zoo also has many animal shows to enjoy. We will also enjoy a fantastic evening show across from our luxury hotel. • High-Speed Trains are faster than flying: By the end of 2022 China is close to having 30,000 miles of high-speed rail lines. High speed trains travel between 120 to 220 miles an hour. We used to do 5 airplane flights inside of China. By the time you add the drive through traffic to the airports, the hours before the flights, along with the drive time back into the next city – in every routing, traveling by high speed train has become faster than flying. That doesn’t even take into consideration that the vast majority of our flights were over an hour late. The trains have more comfortable seats, more leg room and you get to enjoy the beautiful China landscapes when traveling by train. • High-Speed Train Baggage issues: China’s High-Speed Trains have only a small area around your seat that can handle American’s small carry-ons – which is the size of what the Chinese would take as a suitcase. There is no room for large suitcases without having to eat up your leg room. Then there is the massive headache of loading and unloading buses, dragging large suitcases through train stations, along with having to lift your large suitcases on and off the trains. We have evaluated everything there is to see and experience in upper Washington, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Alberta, and the majestic Canadian Rockies. We combined some of the best places to see and experience with the “World’s Best Train.” We start in Seattle, heading north to Fidalgo Island, where we will stay overnight. While there, we will tour Fidalgo Island and take a ferry through the San Juan Islands, with a stop in San Juan’s Islands Friday Harbour (a walking town). We then travel by ferry to the wonderfully picturesque town of Port Townsend before overnighting in Port Angeles. Before heading by ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island, we will spend a day on one of the most beautiful drives in the U.S. as we visit Olympic National Park and its picturesque rainforest. There are only a few times each year when the cruise leaves from one side of the U.S. and transits through the Panama Canal, and ends up on the other side of the U.S. We love this cruise itinerary. We plan to add a unique night in an upgraded room with window on the famous Queen Mary parked at the Long Beach wharf. It would include a night stay, breakfast and a Tour of the ship. The Queen Mary will open for booking groups about 10 months before our October departure. We do expect to be able to make arrangements for our group, but if for any reason we are unable to book the cabins on the Queen Mary, we will still do the tour of the Queen Mary and will make some adjustments to pricing if we stay in another hotel. Although fictional, this witty, magical, and poetic play propels the audience to better understand the human behind one of America’s best known leaders.
