Before we charter a train or ship, the owners have to experience it first, to check out the quality and itinerary. There were six things that convinced them they needed to charter trains in Africa for our passengers:

• Rovos Rail: Our exclusive Africa train charters are through Rovas Rail. Considered by many to be the most luxurious train in the world! Rovos Rail harkens back to a simpler, more elegant era encompassing the timeless grace and high romance of African exploration. With vintage wood-paneled coaches and open lounge areas, the train is its own highlight. The train can carry up to 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites.

• Bathrooms and Showers: On our Africa luxury trains EVERY cabin has an attached private bathroom. On our Siberia and Silk Road trains, that we have chartered, very few cabins included an attached bathroom and shower. the majority of the cabins did not have a private bathroom attached to their cabin. They did have shared public toilets and showers in each car. Having the luxury of having a bathroom attached to each train cabin was impressive.

• Charter Pricing: They offered us huge savings if we chartered the whole train. Buying the Rovas Rail train through other companies for a similar 15-day trip would run over $10,500 or more per person. With our private exclusive charter – your price for the same Elephant Cabin with its own bathroom is only $8,495 per person. That is a discount of about $2,000 per person. And even on the train we do more, we have included our Educator and Tour Managers that will be with you for your whole trip.

• Open Lounge Cars: The Siberia trains and the Silk Road trains do not include a lounge car for socializing, reading or playing games. Our Africa Train has two lounge cars where guests can gather with large windows to look out. They also have an area where you can step outside onto an open-air deck to take pictures. Impressive is the best word to describe the luxury train.

• Great Itinerary: We stay two nights in Zambia. Our hotel is located at Victoria Falls. It has its own private entrance to Victoria Falls so our passengers can visit it more than once while staying at our wonderful hotel. We then cross the border into Zimbabwe where we board our Luxury Train. From there your luxurious train travels down through Zimbabwe into South Africa and the famous Kruger Park, before heading into the country of Eswatini (formally Swaziland) and before heading to Johannesburg and Pretoria, the capital of South Africa.

• The purchase power of the dollar this year compared to past years: In the past for every dollar we traded for Indian Rupees (India’s money), we received somewhere between 42 to 50 rupees. This year for every dollar we are able to get over 80 rupees per dollar. This is the best exchange rate we have ever seen. We are purchasing the Indian rupees now and putting them in the bank to insure the huge savings for our 2025 group. No one knows when the number of rupees per dollar will go back to 40 rupees per dollar.

• Pushkar Festival: As part of your tour, you will have the rare opportunity to experience the famous Pushkar Festival. The Pushkar Festival is considered the oldest festival in the world. It has been held annually for over 1,000 years. National Geographic created a list of the ten places you should see before you die. Pushkar Festival was on that list. Less than 2% of the visitors to India get the opportunity to attend a Pushkar Festival.

• The date of the Pushkar Festival fluctuates from year to year, at times causing the tour dates of the tour to go over Thanksgiving. In 2025, the festival is held at a time that does not cause our passengers to be gone over Thanksgiving.

· Pushkar Festival: With so few days in a year that the 1,000 year old festival is held and so few places to stay at, the out of the way Pushkar area, very few tourists are ever able to experience the Pushkar Festival. Most have to stay in tent camps, but we have one of the few 5-star resort hotels for our passengers. This is only available to our passengers because of connections the owners of Fun For Less Tours have in India.

· Maharaja Palaces: Many of them are so stunning that they become an attraction unto themselves. We usually leave early and return around 4pm back to the Maharaja Palaces. This gives our passengers time to leisurely explore the beautiful grounds, take a swim in some of the beautiful swimming pools and enjoy dinner on patios overlooking the manicured gardens.

· The Country of Bhutan (Extension): Few, if any, tourists ever get permission to visit Bhutan – stepping back in time where little has changed in hundreds of years. This is an optional extension, but if you have time and have the money we highly recommend it. Bhutan wants to limit the number of tourists. One of the ways is that they charge $200 a day per tourist, in addition to any visas, flights, hotels and other expenses related to the trip. That means, with our group staying 4 nights, we are paying between $800 and $1,000 per person just for the right to enter Bhutan. Expensive, but we believe it is worth it.

Bhutan is a small picturesque country located high in the Himalayas with a border to Tibet. It was almost completely cut off for centuries with no roads in or out. Bhutan “Land of the Thunder Dragon”, only began to open up to outsiders in the 1970s.

Bhutan’s ancient Buddhist culture, friendly people and breathtaking scenery makes it a natural tourist attraction. Tourism is very restricted. They limit the number of visas each year and all visitors must travel as part of a pre-arranged package or guided tour, it is not open to independent travelers. Royal Caribbean introduced us to the possibility of doing Japan from a ship. Colors and Castles is close to the right name of this tour, the true name should have been the Mid-Evil Walled Villages and Castles during the colors of Provence season in Southern France. There wasn’t room to put this as our heading. During the summer in Southern France, most every window and building in the villages and cities are adorned in beautiful flowers, BUT the best time of all is when the South of France is covered in Lavender fields. There are certain places in the world that have the greatest highlights in a very short period of time, like being in the Netherlands during the short tulip season or being in Japan during the short cherry blossom season – that is what it is like being in the South of France during the short lavender blossom season. You not only experience all the normal beautiful flowers, you will also be blown away with the staggering beauty of the lavender fields. The best time to see the beautiful lavender fields is between mid-June to mid-July! We hit it perfectly as we board our AmaWaterways cruise ship on June 25, setting sail through the heart of the best area to enjoy lavender fields and ancient cobblestone villages. Stunning could be an understatement when it comes to the beauty of many of the Philippine islands. There are over 7,000 islands that make up the Philippines, don’t worry, we are not going to try and see them all. We have hand-picked some of the best islands to see and experience. You really can sail through all 5 lakes even though they are at different heights. All of the lakes are connected by rivers, on some of them, you can sail up or down the river into the next Great Lake. On others, the river may be unnavigable. The Niagara River drains into Lake Erie then into Lake Ontario, but other than traveling by barrel over the falls, no ship can navigate the Niagara River. The picture and lock above are part of a 27-mile canal with a total of 8 locks that will move our ship up or down as needed to be able to sail between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

Every day will be another highlight day, including shore excursions, tours, and lectures from our educator, Michael Wilcox. But, one of your best days will be when you visit Mackinac Island. The entirety of this charming island is a National Historic Landmark, and motor vehicles are not allowed. The only way you can get around is by walking, by a bicycle, horseback back, by horse-drawn buggies or horse-drawn taxis. The Iconic Grand Hotel, in addition to hosting presidents, is known for having “The World’s Largest Porch”.

• Both the Yangtze and the Li River in one tour. Usually, you have to pick the Li River or the Yangtze; you can’t do both. If you are going to China, you need to do both. The Yangtze River is more impressive than the sailing through the inside passage in Alaska.

• 8 Phenomenal cultural shows: in Beijing, Xian, Zhangjiajie, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Other companies charge extra for the shows, we include them all!

• High-Speed Trains are faster than flying: By the end of 2022 China was close to having 30,000 miles of high-speed rail lines. High speed trains travel between 120 to 220 miles an hour. We used to do 5 airplane flights inside of China. By the time you add the drive through traffic to the airports, the hours before the flights, along with the drive time back into the next city – in every routing, traveling by high speed train has become faster than flying. That doesn’t even take into consideration that the vast majority of our flights were over an hour late. The trains have more comfortable seats, more leg room and you get to enjoy the beautiful China landscapes when traveling by train.

• High-Speed Train Baggage issues: China’s High-Speed Trains have only a small area around your seat that can handle American’s small carry-ons – which is the size of what the Chinese would take as a suitcase. There is no room for large suitcases without having to eat up your leg room. Then there is the massive headache of loading and unloading buses, dragging large suitcases through train stations, along with having to lift your large suitcases on and off the trains. We are the only company we know of that has solved this issue. Your suit cases are taken from your hotel room in one city and will magically appear in your hotel room in the next city. We have your large luggage trucked from your hotel room to your next hotel in the next city. Ancient Buildings on the Silk Road –Registan Square in Samarkand with over one BILLION individual beautifully colored tiles. Possibly, the most beautiful buildings we have seen anywhere in the world!

Jim and Carol Tyndall, along with their daughter Jamie (owners of Fun For Less Tours), were able to experience this fantastic part of the world on a private train. At the time, the train was not visiting Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan. Knowing the train missed the countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, they went in early to explore the areas the train missed. Even though they had all traveled to over a hundred countries, they knew almost nothing about Central Asia and its history of the Silk Road. To say they were overwhelmed with the ancient beauty and the people – would be an understatement. To Jim, Carol and Jamie it shot right up near the top of all the places they have ever visited. After the trip, they agreed to charter the whole train for our groups – BUT, they needed to redesign the train's itinerary and needed to add the countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. A train is not like a bus that you can just take a different road, pull over almost anywhere and stop or park. Getting permission to travel by rail, wanting to stop and park your train like a bus is not easy. It took close to a year of working with all of the governments and local train companies to get permission to change our itinerary and add the additional two Stans - Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, The only reason this is possible, is because we are chartering the whole train, changing the itinerary, and adding additional nights on the train.

A Few Things to Consider:

• The huge price savings from our chartering the whole train. As far as we know, no one has ever chartered the entire private train through the Silk Road in Central Asia. Chartering the whole train created huge savings. Our price on the train is $1,300 per person less than what the train company charges when it is not a charter AND they do not include all 4 countries and our improved itinerary! That is only reserved for our charters.

• NO LONG DRIVES! On Jim and Carol’s trip they met many people traveling through the Silk Road by bus. When they asked how they liked their tour, everyone said they loved the sites, and the hotels, but the long drives were exhausting and grueling! They spent ½ of their time or more doing long drives. There were many days of driving that were 6 hours or more before they reached the next area to tour. Then when they arrived, they were given less time than they would have liked to see the sights. WE HAVE NO LONG DRIVES! We will travel by train at night and then tour during the day. Some of the bus travelers they met said they had looked at the train but it only visited 2 of the Stan countries. They wanted all 4, so they went by bus. We wanted the best for our passengers, so all of our passengers will be traveling in “The Best Train Trip in the World” Luxury First Class GoldLeaf Train Cars! They offer two classes of service, SilverLeaf and GoldLeaf. The SilverLeaf Train Cars have large windows but not domed windows, they serve the meals at your seat and do not include the top luxury hotels. This is not what we wanted for our passengers. All of our passengers will be traveling in the GoldLeaf Train Cars! The Luxury GoldLeaf Train Cars are two levels or two stories, with an elevator. The upper area is the luxury “first-class” seating area with a completely domed glass roof, creating unobstructed views from every seat.
