We are truly amazed at how much our passengers enjoy these relaxing cruises. Of the three cruises we have offered, this will be by far the most beautiful. The ship is smaller than the American Queen, it is more like a wonderful boutique ship that holds about 200 passengers. There are no inside cabins, there are a few outside cabins with windows, but the vast majority of the cabins have private veranda balconies. A balcony cabin on a major cruise line is rarely used as 90% of the sailing time is out to sea with only a big ocean to view. Very little time is spent sitting on your balcony. Not so with river cruising. 100% of the time there is something to look at as you are always sailing between mountains, forests, and cities. The scenery is always changing, constantly being replaced by new scenery. We highly recommend having a cabin that opens up onto a private veranda balcony.

There will be millions wanting to get tickets that will not be able to get them. There will only be 102 performances in 2020. Arabia is a barren land. In all of of the Arabian Coast there is only one area that fits Nephi’s description of the Land Bountiful. It is in the country of Oman. Most scholars believe this area to be the Land Bountiful. It is located in Salalah, Oman and we will be visiting this area! There are two main places we will visit in the country of Oman. Muscat, which is the capital of the Country and Salalah located at the bottom of Oman. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are new and modern. Muscat is home to both modern and ancient and has some of the best ancient sites in the area. You will love the old city and its old market.

Everyone has heard of Dubai, the “City of Gold”. It is famous for doing everything to the extreme! For example: It has the world’s Tallest Building, which we will visit the observation floor near the top and we will also visit a mall that has a snow ski resort with two chairlifts inside of the mall. Here is a partial list of what you will see and experience in Israel: We see Jerusalem, the Sea of Galilee, Bethlehem, Jerusalem Center, Nazareth, Garden of Gethsemane, Mount of Olives, the Garden Tomb, Mount of Beatitudes, Mt. Carmel, Capernaum, Masada, Caesarea, Mt. Tabor, Antonia Fortress, top of Temple Mount, Palace of Caiaphas and so much more! We also visit places others miss or are not allowed to visit in the Holy Lands. Some tours even leave off Bethlehem and almost everyone leaves off Jordan! One of the sites in the Holy Land that only we are able to visit, is the ongoing excavations of the City of Lehi. A cave was discovered a short distance down from Jerusalem with writings of a prophet from 600 BC. The Nomad tribes consider the hill above the cave to be a sacred place. As they put it, “Before there was Muhammad there was a great prophet named Lehi and he taught from that hill”. We do not know if this is our Lehi, but we do know this will be a huge highlight as you visit an active archaeological dig. The excavations are on an army base. The excavations are on an army base. It has 3 Shakespeare plays and 3 other musicals, comedies or Broadway type plays. Michael helps all of us understand each Shakespeare play by explaining the story and the characters before we go to each Shakespeare play. Knowing the story will make Shakespeare more enjoyable for everyone. Each day you will enjoy 2 wonderful plays. Look at the fantastic line up of plays for 2017:

THE ENGELSTAD SHAKESPEARE THEATRE

William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and the theatrical adaptation of the Academy Award-winning movie Shakespeare in Love, will anchor the Engelstad Shakespeare Theatre. Shakespeare in Love is about young William Shakespeare, who, out of ideas and short of cash, meets his ideal woman and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet. Rounding out the Engelstad Theatre will be the Shakespeare comedy As You Like It. This rollicking frolic of confused courtship between Rosalind and Orlando features beautiful poetry and unsurpassed wit. It was last produced at the Festival in 2009. Those who have been following the Festival’s History Cycle (all ten of Shakespeare’s history plays produced in chronological order) may notice that there is no history play in the 2017 season. The Festival will continue the cycle in 2018, using the coming year to develop a production approach for the Henry VI plays which will tell the story of the War of the Roses and the Tudor dynasty in all its artistry and majesty.

THE RANDALL L. JONES THEATRE

First will be the classical musical Guys and Dolls, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling. Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls ran for over 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950. Winner of many Tony Awards and numerous other theatre prizes, it has been frequently revived and has proven to be perennially popular. Featuring such memorable songs as “A Bushel and a Peck” and “Luck Be a Lady,” this oddball romantic comedy will find a comfortable home at the Festival. Next will be the Mountain West premiere of Mary Zimmerman’s glorious adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island. This critically-acclaimed adaptation premiered in a joint production by Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago and Berkeley Rep in Berkeley, California. The Festival is the first theatre beyond them to receive rights to this play. This epic tale based on classic literature will thrill the entire family with tales of buried treasure, cutthroat pirates, the larger-than-life Long John Silver, and the courageous young cabin boy Jim Hawkins. A play with music,Treasure Island is dramatic story-telling at its theatrical best. Possibly Shakespeare’s most beloved comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream will also appear in the Randall Theatre. This story of fairies, dreams, and moonlight tells the tale of love which never does run smooth, of feuding fairy kings and queens, and of young lovers caught up in the world between waking and dreaming. Perhaps Shakespeare’s most accessible comedy, the entire family will enjoy the antics of Puck, Titania, and Nick Bottom and his hilarious band of rustics.

Our BEST Seating Ever Before seating is open to the public to purchase, it is first offered to those that contribute money or time to the Shakespeare Festival. Fun For Less Tours does not fall into this group. After receiving our seat assignments for this year (2015) we expressed our disappointment in the seats that were assigned to us. All of our seats were in the back half of the Orchestra section. We did not have any seats in the front half. We understand why the large donors and those involved in the plays should get first choice. We just wanted to be included in those getting first choice. We told the Festival we needed to be included in the first group for the following reasons: • This is more of a service then a profit center for us. By the time we pay for the hotels, the show tickets, three meals a day, thousands of dollars to rent our meeting space at the Festival, all tipping, money paid to actors for the private seminar, along with the cost of sending many staff members with all of their costs and the costs of Dr. Michael Wilcox – we make very little money. The winner in all of this are our customers AND the Shakespeare Festival. • We asked the Festival to look at the many years of our buying around 2000 show tickets each year, which is 10 times more than other groups have purchased. We felt they needed to consider the large number of tickets we buy each year as our donation to the Shakespeare Festival. • If we could not get better seating we would likely stop coming. Our petition did not fall on deaf ears! This year all of our seats were in the Orchestra, but in the back sections. The Festival has re-evaluated our position for next year. We already have our seats assigned and know exactly what we have to offer and believe us, they are GREAT! We ended up with 3 packages for next year. • Our Gold Package: Four of the plays are in Rows 1, 2, 3 or 4. The other two plays are in great Orchestra seating. NOTE: The Gold Package has already sold out. • Silver Package: Three of the plays are in Rows 1, 2, 3, or 4. The other three plays will be in good Orchestra seating. We still have space in our Silver Package. • Bronze Package: One of the plays will be in Rows 1, 2, 3 or 4. The rest of the seats are not bad, they are basically what we had this year. The Bronze Package will not go on sale until after we sell out our Silver Package. Approximately 40% of our seats are in the Gold Package, which has sold out. We also have about 40% of our seats in the Silver package and 20% of our seats are part of the Bronze Package. Not much difference between the Gold and Silver packages. We will start our fantastic Church History Tour in Palmyra, the Sacred Grove, and the Hill Cumorah. We will then follow the legacy-rich path of the saints from Palmyra to Kirtland, on to Independence, Far West, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Liberty Jail and then finally into Nauvoo and Carthage. We will not be traveling by wagon train - we are going to fly from Kirtland to Independence! Flying eliminates two full days of traveling by bus (and two months if traveling by wagon.) Along with our own prepared manual, each bus will have qualified educators and escorts that have been to the Church History sites before.
